Hi I am a type 1 diabetic with stage 2 kidney disease I have been recently diagnosed with the last year. I have been monitoring blood sugars cut of all protein accept for a very small pecs of chicken or fish with a salad or veggies for dinner a small garden salad for lunch, oatmeal with a teaspoon of flax seed for lunch I walk almost everyday of the week for 30 mintues to an hour drinking only water, monitoring blood sugars and blood pressure blood sugars 100-150 blood pressures 118/79 I not sure what I'm doing wrong but it seems like the protein bubbles in my urine are increasing. I do not want to advance to stage 3 of kidney disease nor dialysis. I have no job my mother and father both died from diabetes last year a month apart from one another. I am only 34 years old I need to stop the protein in my urine and stop Ckd advancement- is there a natural remedy or tea? I have tried everything I have elimated almost all the salt in my diet, just natural salt in fruits and veggies. Could the increase in bubbles come from my salad dressing 30 mg of sodium? I take all my meds.. Please help me!! I have another set of test to take next month I'm scared! I have tried everything I know. Thank, P

I understand you're scared. Finding a good enough solution can help that fear diminish a great deal.

Both diabetes types, as well as the kidneys, respond extremely favorably to Vit C. One doctor made remarks to the effect that, diabetes itself is the direct result of lack of ascorbic acid, thus causing metabolism problems, then insulin problems, which lead to the development of type II diabetes.

As for the kidneys, here's a quote about doing ascorbic acid 2 grams each two hours:

"Here, then, we have a situation where the complete genito-urinary tract from the renal tubules to the urethra would be continuously bathed in a fluid that is bactericidal and virucidal, and has detoxicating and wound-healing properties. Infections of the urinary tract should be more easily controlled through the use of this regimen. If antibiotics or other medicaments are employed, the ascorbic acid should aid and potentiate their effects. There do not seem to be any predictable contraindications to its use as an adjuvant treatment. The continued presence of high levels of ascorbic acid in the urine in contact with all these tissues should prevent any incipient infections from developing."

The only addition I would make to my previous post, is that with kidneys, one proceeds with the application of ascorbic acid more slowly, and ought to drink two quarts of water per day-- at least that's what The Healing Factor said. The water will prevent the buildup of calcium, which causes kidney stones. Apparently, with sufficient drinking of good water, the ascorbic acid then is helpful at not producing stones. Do not use calcium ascorbate... Has calcium. Also, it is important that the water be distilled or reverse osmosis type water, not tap, not spring water. Distilled can even be helpful in drawing off excess calcium stores. Hope this gives you some hope! --T.

Hello, I'm stage 5 CKD... For the last 2 years. My doctor told me last month to keep doing what I'm doing. I tried a lot of folk remedies, unfortunatelly I didn't discover them early enough to stop my disease in an early stage. My GFR is less than 15, but I have no symptoms.

What I'm doing lately:

1. I'm taking daily Curcumin powder (or capsules). Up to 3-4 gramms is safe but I didn't took more than 2 gramms/day. Don't take it if you have gallbladder stones, as it might trigger crisis.
2. I'm taking 2-3 capsules Cordyceps Synepsis.
3. Herbal teas: mix stinging nettle, horsetail, marshmellow, couchgrass and lavender, equal parts, 2 tsp/250 ml boiled water twice a day.
3. Cut down on meat, dairy, cheese, eggs, not completely but way less than before.
4. Keep hydrated, sip at least 2 liters water through-out the day.
5. Daily walk for at least half an hour.
6. Having veggies and fruits when craving for a snack.
7. Eating home almost all the time, food made from scratch, no pre-cooked or frozen. Alcohool not more than 1-2 servings a week (stay away from spirits and beer)

What I did before:

Eating unhealthy, steaks, sausages, milk, alchool. I was prescribed slowly-slowly up to 10 pills a day. Since last year I've cut down almost all of them by myself, still taking atacand plus and rocatrol. My blood pressure is now 120/75 with little variations.

I hope my information will help you or any other people with this disease.

As if healing from psoriasis and arthritis is not hard enough I did a stool sample test and it came back positive for Klebsiella. I did 2 weeks of Uva ursa and now on to Berberine and also started for 1 week hydrogen peroxide 35%. Seems to be not helping at all. Im getting worried and thinking of getting antibiotics for my kidneys have been hurting for quite some time and I think the bacteria is in kidneys. Any thoughts? Thanks Brad.

Ps I was thinking of antibiotic then I will have to re build gut later, its seems like the logical option. I was gona do a water fast but considering I work outside everyday I dont think that would be very smart right now.

Do not do the Water Fast... It is too harsh on the body and can also cause internal damage. Try juicing for a day or 2, and eat plenty of green veg, Drink bottled spring water. Look at the bottom of the bottle, there will be a triangle, for no:1, or, pe1, ANY HIGHER LEAKS PLASTIC into your body. Your body needs fibre to get the toxins out, avoid Grains, Dairy and also the night shade family. Love Andrea C xxx

I have suffered from gout for 10 years and during those years, I was taking Indocin to relieve the pain and suffering. Not knowing the effects of Indocin, it affected my kidneys and 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease. I was referred to Nephrologist and he told me that my creatinine level is 2.2, BUN of 40 and eGFR of 38. Forward to 2012 and I still have the same creatinine levels, BUN and eGFR but my Uric acid level is 5.3. I have dealt with my gout problem but I'm now dealing with Stage 3 Kidney Disease.

I'm 43 years old, not overweight, exercise regularly, quit eating meat, good physical shape and only eat vegetables and chicken for protein although I admit that I smoke 1 pack/week. I've read an article on the internet that taking Alpha Lipoic acid (300mg) and Nettle Leaf Tea twice a day will help me lower my creatinine levels. I took it for 2 months but it actually didn't do anything. I'm currently taking Allopurinol, Simasvatin and Lisinopril to control my gout, blood pressure and cholesterol. Can I still go back to normal BUN, creatinine levels and eGFR? What do I need to do? Please help? I don't want to take anymore medications 'coz I'm afraid that it will damage my organs in the future. Please give me some advise.

Please check out the section for Kidneys on the EC site. Also the Statins your taking, there's far safer ways to lower cholestral. Personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

To reduce creatinine, you can supplement on these:

cinnamon, stinging nettle seed (very effective), Siberian ginseng, Dandelion root, Salvia Miltiorrhiza (called Dan Shen and used in TCM). Re Salvia M.:

Researchers have used salvia on patients who were on dialysis for kidney failure and found that it increased the rate of which creatinine was filtered and evacuated from the body. They also noticed that it enhanced the circulation to the kidneys as well.

You can easily get Salvia (powdered form) in most Chinese herbal shops. Some of the supplements are available at iherb. You can read up more of Salvia M. here:

One very potent remedy for kidney infections is drinking a few cups of pomegranate juice every week - a recent finding from researchers in the M. East. You will need to get your doc to monitor your potassium level as the fruit contains high potassium. In India, pomegranate is regarded as a "complete pharmacy" owing to its wondrous virtues.

For kidney problems, the following are used in Ayurveda:

1. Neem [Azadirachta indica bark Powder]
2. Gokshura [Tribulus terrestris fruit powder]
3. Corn silk

Method: Put one tsp of each of the 3 above in 400 ml of water. Boil/Simmer until you have 50 ml left. Strain and drink the 50 ml filtrate.

Another great idea is to supplement on this patented TCM formula for the kidney. Some people have even reversed their diabetic condition from long term supplementation of the following:

SIX-FLAVOR TEA PILLS / Liuwei Dihuang Wan

It is easily available (typically in bottle of 200 pills) - in most Chinese herbal shops.

If you have been a vegetarian for a long time are you up with the play regarding B12?.. If your not you might have to start taking a supplement as cell function could be getting compromised.

Hello, I've been reading posts on this page and I am very curious as to if you could help me. I'm 21, female, and currently my creatinine is 2.6 due to the kidney disease Townes-Brocks Syndrome. Is there anyway that I can naturally lower my creatinine level and begin repairing or try to repair my damaged kidney tissue? Thank you for your time, K.

Dear everybody here:) Yesterday I've been searching on internet forums about kidneys failure and dialysis asking the Universe to send me any sign or informations that would help me to solve my problem. And I'm more than grateful as I've got to the forum about kidneys problems, dialysis, treatment, people writing about their problems, but those who are who are positive and trying to heal themselves even though doctors and others say it is not possible and that we should only expect it get worse every day.

I have found so many forums already but unfortunatly they have been only people saying about their problems and sharing what the doctors say about treatment and giving them no hope for cure. Me myself I'm on dialysis for more than 3 years and I just KNOW and believe it is POSSIBLE to heal myself and get my precious health back again! :) I'm in very good shape, as I'm taking really great care of myself. As a former martial artist for over 20 years I'm working out, doing yoga, chi-kung and mediatations and thanksgivings :) and have strong belief there is a chance to get off dialysis( and without needing transplant) and be healthy again! My Krea is around 700, Urea around 12-15. (dialysis are 3 times a week for 4 hours). Dear Melanie I have found you on this forum and your words gave me soo much hope and put a more light to my life knowing that healing is really possible that it is not only something I made up in my mind and waiting for miracle to happen! :)

I would love to ask you whether you would be so kind and let me know if you can help me in any way. I would apprecaite from all my heart! :) I don't know what more informations would you need for any consideration of my health condition and finding out whether you would be able to help me in any way. I greatly appreciate your time and consideration, can't even express how much I treasure it!

With Love

4 cups of a herbal tea are sipped each day. The herbs in the tea are Golden Rod, Bedstraw and Yellow Dead Nettle in equal parts. For each 1/4 litre of water add one heaped teaspoons of herbs. The tea is an infusion (herbs are placed in boiling water and are kept in for 4-5 minutes). To 3 of the cups you have to add 1 teaspoon of Swedish Bitter/ cup.

Horsetail sitz bath, lasting 20 min, are taken. 100 gram of herbs/ bath are coald soaked overnight, heated in the morning, strained and the liquid added to the bath water. Water can be reused so that 3 sitz baths can be made from one lot of herbs. Warm Horsetail poultices are applied overnight and Swedish Bitter as compresses is applied to the kidney region for 4 hours during the day. Before applying the compress the skin is covered with lard/ Calendula ointment. After removing the compress apply baby poweder on the skin. In case of skin rash reduce the time or skip applying the compress until skin is healed.

For more info on the herbs see

You should also consider acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Just found this and thought of you Zuzana:

Susun Weed in her book, "Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year, " highly recommends drinking both nettles and raspberry leaf tea throughout pregnancy. She specifically recommends drinking nettle tea during the last month of pregnancy to insure that large amounts of vitamin K are in the blood for the birth.

She recalls a woman who was told she would need to be put on a dialysis machine and used nettles tea as a part of her therapy to rebuild her kidneys, thus avoiding the dialysis machine. According to Weed: "Since the kidneys must cleanse 150 percent of the normal blood volume for most of the pregnancy, Nettles' ability to nourish and strengthen them is of major importance. Any accumulation of minerals in the kidneys, such as gravel and stones, is gently loosened, dissolved and eliminated by the consistent use of Nettle infusions."

You may want to try Horsetail and Nettles which are both good for the kidneys, as well as Parsley. I've seen people do kidney cleansing, if you can find an Herbalist with a cleanse. I did one when I was having problems urinating, and it worked wonders. You can also do lemon and olive oil... to flush the kidneys.

Aoa, Ali Ahmed, I hope you might have heard about Rehman Foundation in Lahore. Name of the Homeopath Doctor is Waqar Ahmad, he visits different cities in Pakistan and abroad as well. My mother is taking medicine from this guy and by the grace of Almighty she has been saved from dialysis. Her creatinine level was at 5. 8 which came down to 3, urea nitrogen was way up to 90 and came down to 28, but these all reduced in two months. There are many patients who got better than this. I am just referring him as it might be helpful for you or others.

They are also very cooperative in terms of cost.

His address is Rehman Foundation, 133-G, Model Town, Lahore

The best way to find a cure for anything now is the internet.... It's like a huge encyclopedia.... In the search box at top of page... Type in disease and then natural cure.... Like this:

Kidney Disease natural cure or herbal cure or homeopathic cure....

They sound pretty sick... I would check into homeopathy... I've seen tremendous miracles with it.... Complete turnarounds in disease overnight.... Chronic diseases are a little tougher... But search it out and maybe consult a homeopath in your area. Good luck

I have been told that I have early stages of polycystic kidney disease. The creatinine levels are 1. 33 and 'normal' is 1. The dr told me there is nothing I can do or take to reverse this or keep it level other than high blood pressure meds and to stay away from OTC meds. I feel fine and have no pain or tenderness anywhere.

Is there something I can take naturally that will lower blood pressure and help the kidneys not get worse?

Thanks, Lynda

Seven years ago I was rushed to the ER with unprecedented HBP, failing kidneys and soaring levels of creatinine. I had contacted a super virus & had been under years of stress. I was offered a Pastor, because the docs did not think I would live through the night. Fortunately I had an extensive training in Alternative Healing in my youth. I did REFLEXOLOGY on my feet and focused on the extremely tender kidney point, which is located in the inner upper arch of the foot.

Look on-line for exact located of kidney point on feet. If you have sick kidneys the kidney point will and should hurt as you massage it. As you heal the kidneys, the area will become less tender. It is a sign of recovery. I got swiftly better in the ER as I rested and rubbed my kidney pressure point over the ensuing week. My creatinine levels dropped dramatically. The doctors were confounded by my recovery. But they did not know REFLEXOLOGY is one of the most ancient healing arts on the planet and was practised by the Egyptians. Reflexology is depiected in heiroglyphics and pictures inside many of the pyramids. Those Egyptians lasted a LONG TIME!!

After a few days I was discharged from critical care and now live healthily in California. After recovery, I highly suggest cardio-vascular exercise for fifty minutes a day, because according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the healthier the lungs are, the healthier the kidneys will be. I am going to supplement my regime now with some of the excellent suggestions on this site, like acv, mimosa, comfrey and radish leaves. I have already seen spectacular results with cayenne, garlic and lemon. I am happy to hear from people. willowleaf33(at) I also know some awesome remedies for infertility and know how to completely eliminate the pains of childbirth naturally, using pressure points. God/Goddess has been good to me. Be blessed!

Willow, this reminds me of Anais Nin's premature still born deliver nightmare. Anais had spent hrs in delivery with no luck at all and the head nurse and physician had become VERY irritated at the entire situation... Until she screamed out at them all to leave her alone and stand back. As she settled into her center, she made an automated response of tapping her index finger in a circular motion around the protruding belly, she continued this for a few minutes and easily birthed a still baby.

My 87 year old mother is at stage 4 with kidney failure. She also has low protein. She lives in a nursing home with controlled meds and food. Her doctor has been very good letting us bring her whatever we want to. I have her on Keifer yogurt drink daily for the C-diff in her colon. I need to find something like Mimosa to bring her that the staff would be able to give her everyday. It has to be ready to use like a tincture but I can't find it. They don't recommend dialysis for her. Time is running out so please help.

After 3 years of telling Drs. I had a kidney issue, they finally did an ultrasound and found a spot. Now I am waiting to hear if it's cancer, a cyst, or a stone. Will castor oil packs help with any of these? I have flank pain which comes and goes, puffy eyes & swollen hands upon waking, and excessive thirst. I only drink water and cranberry.

My mother has been sick for my whole life, always in and out of hospitals and on all kinds of medications. Recently she's become worse than ever before, but I believe she really wants to get better this time and she understands now that it takes healing the whole body from the inside. She was an alcoholic for year and now has scerosis of the liver. It seems like she has dropsy because her arms and legs are very thin as she rarely eats and drinks little water, but her midsection is very, very bloated and has been for the past 30 years. No doctor has ever been able to tell her what is causing that. To me, it seems like it's all of the issues she has with digestion.

She just got out of the hospital this morning after getting 3 blood transfusions and a whole lot of saline water pumped into her through an IV. They said that she has kidney dysfunction. Not surprising, I understand the kidney is the last step before waste is excreted in the urine and since her digestive system isn't working the way it should, her kidneys are under a lot of stress. The doctor put her on a medication called lactulose, which I read is to treat constipation (she poops multiple times a day, usually very yellow and sometimes diarrhea) and also to treat elevated blood ammonia. I assume she's supposed to take it for the blood ammonia. I'm taking care of her now and making her juice and shakes of fresh vegetables and some fruits, making her salads, fresh eggs, raw milk and butter, hearty grains once a day, and making sure she drinks enough water. I'm also giving her apple cider vinegar and aloe vera gel. Besides all that, she needs to stay away from alcohol and we're hoping she will for good this time. What else can I be doing to help her and what are some causes of elevated blood ammonia?

Desiree, her problem is liver failure not kidney (ok she may have kidney failure too I'm not sure) but yellow stools are a symptom of liver not kidney failure. Also kidney failure patients aren't given regular Lactulose liver patients are. Lactulose is an OTC laxative but it is very important for liver failure. It helps the gut dispose of excess toxins without it the toxins will circulate and cause brain damage (hepatic encephalopathy) in a surprisingly short amount of time.

Hello all! I have a good friend who has had kidney problems for a while. He just discovered that he has several cysts on his kidneys and they have started to calcify. I know k2 is good for this, but I was wondering if anyone else has some advice. My friend and I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi Kalya... One of the best herbs for removal of stones and decalcifying is Chanca Piedra. It's English name is "Stonebreaker" and for good reason -- this herb is well known to get rid of both gallstones and kidney stones in the human body. Chanca Piedra also has a plethora of other benefits -- including liver and kidney support -- and is completely safe to take.

I used Chanca Piedra for liver and kidney support during my candida problems -- and as an encore I also dumped all my gallstones which I didn't know I had!! Read about the many benefits of Chanca Piedra here:

Chanca Piedra Research

Also, using Ted from Bangkok's alkalizing remedies -- my favourite being a whole lemon/lime with 1/4 -1/2 tspn Baking soda in a half glass of water once or twice a day -- will also help to prevent stones. And taking magnesium (as mag chloride or mag citrate) -- 250 mgs twice a day will also work to regulate and reduce any excess calcium in the body.

I now grow Chanca Piedra in my garden in the Philippines. I take a decoction of this herb once a month to keep my calcium in check. I'm over 60 years old with no aches or pains now. It simply works.

Thank you Bill! I will definitely pass the information on; but I want to make sure that this will aid with renal calcification, not kidney stones. He thought he had kidney stones but the doctors told him that he has several cysts attached to his kidneys, and removal might not be possible at this point.

Hi Kayla... The two main supplements that remove calcium are the Chanca Piedra and the Magnesium. Chanca Piedra works to clear all forms of excess calcium safely from the body and also acts like a mild diuretic in this respect. And Magnesium properly regulates the calcium/potassium balance within the body's cells.

I suspect your friend with the kidney problem has excess calcium with low magnesium intake in his diet, which is why he/she is having calcified kidney cyst problems. Calcium in excess within the diet is also acidifying for the cells/blood, which is why I recommended Ted's alkalizing lime/lemon remedy. What would also help your friend is to stay away from dairy products like milk, yoghurt, cheese etc and to avoid all fortified calcium foods -- to avoid the excess calcium intake. All western food nowadays is too over-fortified with calcium.

Hi Ted
I live in the usa and from your past postings it seems like vitamin d4, kidney bean pod and lemon and baking soda are some of your favorite choices to restore kidney health, this brings me to my question in the usa I am having a difficult time of sourcing d4 and kidney bean pods , might you have any suggestion on where these can be purchased?
Thank you for everything you are doing,
