ACV and Coconut Oil for Perioral Dermatitis

| Modified on Mar 10, 2024
Apple cider vinegar and coconut oil are a good combination to fight perioral dermatitis. These two home remedies fight fungus and bacteria, common causes of perioral dermatitis. Both are also healing to the skin. First, apply diluted apple cider vinegar to the skin. Follow up with coconut oil to moisturize the skin.

Hello everyone, so I'm not usually one to post responses , but this site and EVERYONE that posted their story and explained what worked for them truly helped me soooooooo soooooo much, so I felt I owed it to the next person to maybe help them with this skin disorder and give some hope. So little background my skin to me has always been great , I maybe would get a pimple once a year, I think I suffered from the occasional cold sore more than pimples. My skin was combo, sensitive but after kids and getting older, I'm 34 now, my skin has changed to combo, and crazy dry in some areas and still sensitive. No problem changed up my skincare, still good, but then I decided to switch some makeup up, bad idea. Now this is what I'm more convinced caused it, but it could also be stress. Ok so what started out as a small rough patch started to spread a little up my nose. I thought I had eczema, so I loaded up with the moisturizer, wasn't helping so I read on how to treat it, enter cortisone , and this is why you should never self diagnose yourself, it spread to the other sideand then down my chin on both sides, so basically a giant U shaped rash with bumps, wonderful. So I went to the derm and she walked in looked said perioral dermatitis, wow thanks can I have my compay back for that 5 seconds. so she gave me three prescription, 1 oral , 2 topical, and when I asked about if I could continue using my face oil she said that stuff doesn't work it just sits on top of your skin. Hmmmm so I'm totally not a pill popper I will suffer through a lot of things before ingesting that garbage, but I did try the topical, 2 weeks and still at square one no change, nada. that's when I decided to do some research with the only useful thing she said which was perioral derm, and that is how I found this amazing site YAY!!!!! So point of the story, ACV and coconut oil worked so freakin good I'm in aww. It's been 1 1/2 weeks and my skin is 90% smooth no bumps, still a little red but more pink! Which is no biggie . So here it is...

1. I did from day 1 straight Apple Cider Vinegar not diluted on cotton pad to just the affected area, let it dry, it will sting and or burn but that's ok...

2. because when you apply the coconut oil, (raw unrefined with mother), it takes away the burn instantly and I applied this all over my face even my undereye.

Now, one more thing, my skin got even more dry and flaky from the ACV on and off through this process, and then at one point it got so dry I felt like certain parts felt like sand paper, so rough, then one day I decided I couldn't it and exfoliated the duty skin off, and under neath was smooth skin, so be patient , I feel like that extra dry layer was almost like a scab, gross I know, but I didn't bother it and I feel like it was doing some healing underneath, I don't know that's just me but I did read another post and she had the same experience, who knows. Removing fluoride is my next task, and I may even try the calendula cream for the remaining dry spots just to see, and the yogurt mask. I hope this helps everyone sorry for the rant but I like details lol best of luck don't give up you need to have patience with this but there is hope!!

I almost forgot to write about my experience with dermatitis on EC, but it's something I definitely need to share! Last summer, I developed severe dermititis around my mouth. It started as just a small dry spot on the left corner of my bottom lip, and spread rapidly around my whole chin. I was so frustrated, and at the time I wasn't sure what it was. At first I assumed it was just dry skin, but using lotion and exfoliating only made it worse. It was unsightly and painful.

I started researching what the problem was. We don't have insurance, and I prefer to stick with natural remedies, so I wanted to see if there was anything I could try before I went to the Doctor. First, I discovered that I had perioral dermititis, and that it is quite common for women my age. Next, I started searching for remedies, and that's when I found EC! I ate up all of the advise and information, and was excited to try the ACV and coconut oil regimine.

I would highly, HIGHLY recommend trying this. Here's my experience:

I began drinking two tablespoons of ACV (the kind with the mother, from my natural foods store, obv) in a glass of water twice a day. It was gross at first, but after awhile, I began to crave it! If you've spent any time on EC, you know how benefical ACV is... So start drinking it even if you don't have dermititis! Anyway, I also began applying ACV to my chin/mouth area with a cotton ball in the evening. It was so strange at first. It stung a little, and hundreds of tiny white bumps appeared. After I applied to ACV and let it dry, I would rub coconut oil into my face. The white bumps would disappear after the ACV dried.

After three weeks, my skin was scalier than ever and I was ready to give up. I couldn't believe this "wasn't working for me! " my skin seemed drier than ever. Right when I was about to throw in the towel... One morning I applied coconut oil to my chin area because it felt especially dry. The dry flaky skin just fell away as I massaged my face! Clear, beautiful, NOT DERMITITIS skin was exposed instantly! I was so realived, and I couldn't believe it.

For me, it seemed as if the ACV and coconut oil made it worse before it made it better. Please, if any of you are experiencing this... stick to it! I have never had a recurrance.

Thanks, EC and submittors, for being here. I really appreciate it!
