Developed white spots on the tonsils and had tough time swallowing. I never went to the doctor to confirm the strep but I have had it enough to know. I primarily used Apple Cider Vinegar to remedy Strep although I went to the max on alternatives because I was not going to take those antibiotics. I also used Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) about 5-10 times a day in warm water gargled and sipped on it all day. I gargled and swallowed the Apple Cider Vinegar about 5-10 times per day as well. I also swabbed my tonsils with thieves essential oils. I also took Echinacea tincture about every hour for about 48 hours. Like I said I was not about to take antibiotics again. All of these alternatives helped me with tackling Strep. Hope this helps someone out there looking for a light at the end of the tunnel. There is hope!

I woke up Monday morning with what I was sure was strep throat. I went to bed Sunday night with a bit of a funny feeling in my throat, then suddenly upon waking Monday morning I could not swallow. Checked my throat and saw the white patches. I don't have health insurance and did not want to spend so much money at the walk-in clinic then on antibiotics. I knew there had to be a better way. I found Earth Clinic a week or so ago and was intrigued by all of the success stories. I read of up on strep throat remedies and decided to give them a try and if there was no improvement in a week, then I would reluctantly go to the walk-in clinic. I compiled many different remedies I found into one "tea". I filled my coffee mug half way full of water and microwaved for two minutes. I then added one clove of garlic that I put through the garlic press and let it steep for 15 minutes.

I then added (I did not do exact measurements, I just eyeballed it) about a 1/4 cup of lemon juice (bottled - did not have fresh lemons)

About a tablespoon or more of ACV,

3 or 4 dashes of cayenne pepper,

1-2 tablespoons of honey

And about a teaspoon of salt. I drank this 3 times Monday and Tuesday and 2 times on Wednesday and also gargled 3x a day with salt water (a couple of times I put a little bit of ACV in with the salt water) and I am ecstatic to report that the strep throat is cured! I always thought that the only way to kill bacteria like strep was with the use of antibiotics. I always had a feeling God put everything here on this earth that we would ever need (natural foods and herbs for health and healing) and now my faith has been confirmed! Thank you so much Earth Clinic and to all of the contributors. I truly think it is a God send! Even though the strep is gone, I think I am left with a sinus infection - going to try the "tomato tea" next and I am actually excited about it.

I recently found out that a friend we had been at the park with came down with strep throat. She called me to make sure I was feeling alright. I had been feeling a sore throat, and within a few hours, it became very painful. I could not deal with strep! I have too much responsibility right now, and so I searched online for a natural cure. I found this site, and found it fascinating. I couldn't decide what to try.

I have used barley water in the past as well. Here is what I did- I made a drink using barley water, apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper, garlic, some sea salt, lemon juice and some honey to help with the flavor. I drank a cup warm, and WOW did I feel the effect. My throat began to burn, but it was soothing. I drank the entire glass. Put the rest of the 'tea' in the fridge, and continued drinking a cup every so often through out the day. I felt no more sore throat later that day, and thought I was cured, so I stopped drinking it. For two days, I felt great. Then decided to eat some sweets (chocolate candies) and instantly my sore throat started up again. I felt like I had just added some kindling back to the fire. So I made more of the drink, gargled it and swallowed it. I did this through the night, and the next day, and totally cured it. I don't know if I had strep. I know it hurt, and my friend had it. So I was up for trying. My children all have it now, and I am trying to figure out which remedy they will be able to handle, as they are not very interested in the drink that I used. :) But it totally works!!!

I have bookmarked this site, and continue to come back to it often. I know this stuff works. As for making barley water, barley isn't always easy to find. I use whole pearled barley, found at a local amish store. you can probably use barley flakes found at the grocery store as well. I put a handful or two into a dry hot pan and shake it, so they don't stick to the pan. I do this over high/or med/high heat until they start browning in color. Not burnt, just light browned. I then turn off the heat, and pour water to fill the pan,and let it sit for a few minutes. You can gargle that and drink it, but I prefer adding everything else. I then added about 1/4 cup of ACV, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/8-1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, dash of sea salt, and then honey to taste. It is such a soothing drink. I didn't like it at first. I thought it was too strong, but I am growing to like the taste. Probably because it totally cured my sore throat. OH, I ALSO HAD AN EAR ACHE!!!! And this helped with the ear pain. It felt like it was helping to clear up the ear ache from the inside. It has been great! THANK YOU Earth Clinic, and thank you thank you thank you to all of you who have written in your suggestions. I am so glad I have found this site.
