ACIDITY REACTIONS FROM VINEGAR

1 BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

10/09/2007: Amie from Janesville, IOWA writes: "If you are having a reaction to vinegar, you may have candida. Yeast-proliferating foods-such as sugar,(including honey), and vinegar exacerbate intestinal candidiasis. Candida is extremely common, given to the poor choices in food selection now days. For me, candida was the root cause of all my sinus problems, headaches, bloating in my belly, on and off fatigue/depression, poor memory/brain fog and added to weight gain and an addictive craving for sweets, breads, and vinegars. fyi: another sign of candida overgrowth is recurrent fungal infections of the toenails and fingernails; or recurrent athlete's foot."

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  04/20/2009: Mayte from Kissimmee, FL replies: "I have been diagnosed with the following HBP, Fibromyalgia, and cluster headaches. So I am willing to try anything to feel better than I do. I was told to take 2 tsp of ACV and 1 tsp of Blackstrap Molasses, and 1/2 cup of Aloe Vera GEL with (alkaline) Water. I have a Alkalizer filter. I have been taking this mix for about 4 days and I have lost 2 pounds a day, Pee like there is no tommorrow, and go several times a day to the bathroom for the other stuff. Blood pressure has been going up even though I am taking my medication. I am itchy all over but I do have more energy and I was told that this will get rid of some toxins in my system which I believe that is true. The itchy is what I do not underwstand is that normal? The fact that I have lost weight makes me happy since I need to loose weight. I am not that hungry anymore, and I do not crave sweet stuff. The doctor said if I lost some weight it would help with the HBP and I also have allergies to Perservatives in the foods especially MSG I breakout in hives. I think that since it cleans toxins in the body and I believe that is why I am itchy due to the toxins being messed with in the body I hope I am right. Because over all I am not going to stop unless something major happens. So far I feel it is helping me with the elimination of toxins and I really need it."

06/20/2009: H from Seattle, Wa replies: "really, it would be best if u stayed away from msg ! -r u being forced 2 eat preservatives? no,so when getting side effects of preservatives,don't complain- u chose 2 eat that item, just don't eat packaged food; don't microwave;

don't cook food inteflon or other plasticy non natural surfaces; use glass or iron, make your own food, don't eat out at restaurants, most employees never wash and food, aprt from being loaded with preservatives has the added risk of being old.

Whatever you do, never drink beverages from SODA FOUNTAINS!!! This I cannot stress more.I have seen this firsthand at many restaurants, I've worked in, these machines have never been cleaned.THey are installed and forgotten. Once I was unclogging one of these and i pulled out a blob which looked like an x-files creature.

what else can i say here? carbonation in small moderation. no corn syrup. no tap water.

don't buy fake peanut butter(hydrogenated)- ur just buying infated water, not actual peanut butter.

buy organic or natural foods, unaffected by nerve damaging preservatives, eat that ezekial bread, try 2 really meditate once in a while, do pranayama. fast once in a while...etc,etc."

08/20/2009: Carmen from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "geez, i didn't read anywhere that she was complaining. i didn't like the tone of your reply- you are being helpful, but berating someone with the old "you ate it, you don't have the right to complain!" is perplexing and rather offensive."

11/14/2009: Tamsin from Normal, Il replies: "FYI, I've worked in lots of different restaurants and everywhere I worked the soda machine was thoroughly cleaned every night, without exception. I also agree with Carmen regarding your tone."

11/15/2009: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, USA replies: "Hi everyone, I do believe how we speak to one another is very important as it can feel harsh and disrespectful and I have seen it here before from a poster who consistently was outright rude. Berating others is never a good tactic. Still, I understand where H from Seattle is coming from. What I often say is: the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. When we have a negative effect from anything- food, medicine, people, situations, etc., we must look at it squarely and ask ourselves WHAT? and then take the measures necessary for a better result. I think this person became overzealous in their warnings is all. I get that more each day that I am on this new journey of juicing, green smoothies and raw food. I am not 100% just high raw at this point and having amazing experiences. Each day I look around me and I see how many ailments, disease and pain people are in and still they continue to put these things into their body. I'm not saying it's easy to change, I'm just saying if you want to see changes, you must change the way you are doing things. I have always been committed to eating "healthy"- since I was 19 and started as a macrobiotic. Then just vegetarian for many years but my health suffered so I returned to eating meat. I was fine until about 4 years ago and became committed again to finding an answer to my physical pain I have endured. I went completely through alternative means- herbs, homeopathy, chiropractic, physical therapy, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage, only organic, etc. Eventually, I found this site and have tried ACV, hydrogen peroxide, oil pulling, etc. Everything helped a little. It's all good. Then the mini beet protocol and I decided to go for it. OMG! Major headway. That lead me to juicing, which lead me to the raw food world and now into the superfoods world! Amazing is all I can say. I feel my body returning- my life being given back to me. I know pain, I know incredible pain but I was not willing to live with it or be anesthetized or medicated by the doctors- that is not a power I am willing to give them. On these sites I have seen testimonies of "miracles" over and over- people defeating cancer, fibromyalgia, diabetes, debilitating illness, chronic fatigue, depression, etc. all these things that society is now naming and accepting. These are all symptoms of the breakdown of how we are eating and what we are putting into our bodies willingly. I urge all of you to look into this- we all have access to computers who are on this site so do the research- there is so much out there for us!

Deanna from Augusta, GA- google Terminator Zapper and do some research on this. All of you who have issues with strange symptoms that the medical profession cannot explain read about the parasites and nano bacterias that are affecting people and what you can really do to rid yourself of these- the zapper, zeolite, liver cleanses, MSM- there is so much. Some of these leading people can be heard on youtube- it's free! All of it available for our own knowledge. And look at these people while you're listening- they're vital, alive, dynamic!

I am with all of you on our quest for health but be willing to really do the research and do the work to get yourself off the mainstream wheel- it's not working. I can only tell you these last couple of weeks have been mind-blowing for me. I hope you will find that for yourselves too."

ACV, BAKING SODA AND LEMON JUICE

2 SIDE EFFECTS

[SIDE EFFECTS]  07/21/2007: G from Palo Alto, CA writes: "Hi Ted, I have a question for you: I started on 2 tbl ACV & 1/4 tsp Baking soda along with lemon juice. This I take twice a day for the last 5 days. The main intention is to reduce my blood pressure. I definitely see improvement in energy levels. However since I have started taking this I have begun getting constipated. Also my blood pressure has risen by about 5-8 points on the systolic reading and I feel I am gaining weight. Does this sound like I am retaining sodium? In one of your suggestions you mention using Potassium Bicarbonate. However I am unable to find it in the pharmacy. Please let me know what you would recommend. Thanks"

EC: Question Answered on the ACV and Baking Soda Q&A

[SIDE EFFECTS]  02/02/2009: Tom from Galloway, NJ USA replies: "Hello everybody, I also experienced a bad case of constipation. But to make matters worse, my butt not only feels like it is clamped shut but it burns like hell all the time. I've never had hemmies but I am assuming thats what they feel like (no bleeding). I started out with a teaspoon in about 10 oz of water but then I followed EC advice with 2 teaspoons in a liter of filtered water and sipped during the day.

I stopped for about a day and a half and the bottom end of me is getting better. However, I have a case of rosacea and it seemed to clear up nicely and I was peeing like a race horse..But the burning butt is a deal breaker. I was using Bragg organic with the Mother... Any suggestions? Would baking soda help or should I forget about it? Thanks"

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

3 BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS
1 WARNING!
80 SIDE EFFECTS
2 QUESTIONS

[SIDE EFFECTS]  11/19/2009: Janie D from Mattoon, Illinois writes: "I was just wondering if anyone has had severe itching brought on by the use of Apple Cidar Vineger and/or by eating organic honey? Since using the APV and honey (but not at the same time). I have had severe, severe itching of the skin and the scalp. The itching was so bad, I went and had my head checked for lice - I also thought I was suffering from bed bugs since I had been travelling and staying in hotels throughout the summer and perhaps thinking I got a case of bed bugs! We have a dog too so I thought it was from fleas! I was lice free, bug free and flea free but...the itching was driving me crazy! Could it be that I was alergic and was having a reaction to maybe the "over-usage" of them? I was drinking about an ounce of APV with lemon and water everyday. I would also have a rice cake with yogurt and organic honey as my breakfast pretty much every day. I decided a few weeks ago that I would eliminate those two things from my daily diet to see if the itching would go away. Well.... IT DID!

I am not fond of trying the ACV vinegar ever again nor the honey. I have been reading things on honey that persuade me that it is more "NOT" good for you than it would be good! I would like to hear from others if the ACV has had an "itchy" affect on you and/or the honey, or the combination of both? Right now I am scared to try either for fear that the "Itchiatis" will come back again! It was simply unbearable! I strongly believe that it was one or the other or both the ACV/Honey that has caused the itching. These are the two things that I had added to my diet over the summer that gave me reason to think that they were the culprit. I had not changed my other food habits and pretty much eat the same thing everyday. I am a vegan (organic) too and am very particular about what I eat. Thank you for your time. Please address this issue. Janie D"

11/19/2009: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, USA replies: "Hi Janie,

Perhaps, you have parasites and the acv and lemon disturbed them which is what all the sudden itching was about. I know it can be used to rid parasites. As for raw, organic honey, there are so many good benefits to it. It might be worth it to see if that is the case and consider getting rid of them. Detoxing is not always a very pleasant experience!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  10/30/2009: Jae from Baltimore, Md writes: "I am so glad I found this website. I had read about the benefits of acv and used it about a yr ago but not consistently. I have been taking it for about 1 a wk and a half and I feel like it is working. My question is what are some of the side effects? I have had some loose stool, wierd stomach sensations, feeling mucous in my throat, headaches. Is this just a result of detoxing. I have been taking it 3x a day and my stomach is flatter. Thanks"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  10/27/2009: Sharan from Banglaore, Karnataka, India writes: "Thanks for all the advice and recommendation on ACV. It is really useful.

Tried for the first time yesterday - 250 ml water 2 table spoon of ACV , Purified American Garden Brand.

Liked the taste , but 3 - 4 hrs later for all most 24 hrs ( even now ) feeling slight head ache and feeling little tired . Is that because of less bicarbonates in my body ? and ACV is producing this side effects ?

If neutralised with Baking soda, will there be any reduction in the efficacy of ACV for weight loss .

Pl. let me know

Sharan"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  10/22/2009: Annie from Los Angeles, Ca writes: "I drank apple cider vinegar straight (about a shot's glass worth), chased with water once a day. Pretty soon thereafter, my monthly cycle began getting heavier. I did not make the connection at first. Then eventually I noticed that my hair was shedding more than usual, and I even developed a nickel-sized bald spot near the front of my hairline. Also, my energy level was really getting low. I'm a runner, and I found that I could barely run three miles when in the past I could easily run 8 - 13 miles!!

At this point I was really trying to figure out what the heck was going on. I realized that the only thing I was doing differently was drinking the ACV. Well, I stopped drinking the ACV and my monthly cycle went back to normal flow. I put two and two together and realized that the ACV was causing me to bleed so much that I was becoming anemic with low iron, which in turn caused the fatigue and hair loss.

Anyway, I stopped the ACV and started taking some iron pills, and now I am totally back to my strong, normal self, and my hair has grown back.

ACV may help many people, but it definitely did not help me at all."

10/22/2009: Healthylady from Washington, Dc replies: "I think the reason for this side-effect was not diluting the ACV in water. Drinking ACV straight definitely will cause more harm than good.

However, im glad to hear you're doing better and have regrown your hair. :-)"

11/07/2009: Loretta from Columbia, Tennessee replies: "Have you ever cleaned a glass coffee pot with straight ACV? It takes off the deposits in just seconds. It's Acetic acid dilute to 5%, and not recommended to drink straight. Also, I found that the larger, plastic container of a well-known brand did not contain apples, but grains, so make sure you are getting the real thing. Try soaking your feet in a container of warm-hot water with a cup of ACV for 15-20 minutes, using a brush to remove dead skin. Amazing!!!And you may have absorbed some of the vinegar through your skin. In the winter I like to add 1 TBSP of ACV in a cup of hot water and honey. Tastes like a spicy hot apple cider."

11/08/2009: Ricki from Vancouver, B.C. Canada replies: "Loretta from Columbia, Tennessee - please check your sources before commenting on "well-known brand did not contain apples, but grains".

Read this: "A vinegars "grain" is a number used to specify its acetic content. Grain is 10 times the percent of acetic acid present. For example, all ..... bottled vinegars are at least 50 grains, which means they contain at least 5 percent acetic acid and are called 5 percent vinegars. It's important that vinegars are 5 percent, because this amount of acetic acid is necessary for safe and efficient food preservation and household use."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  10/12/2009: Sdgaud95 from New Bedford, Ma writes: "Hello, I am 33 yr old female and have been suffering from Acid reflux for about three years now. Have been on omperazole, nexium and am currently on protonix. Everyone of these have helped for a couple of months then its back to the same tightness in throat constant nausea, upset stomach and regertation. My GI tells me I have a weakened valve in my esophagus.. I tried 2 tsps.of ACV with 8 ounces of water right before my meals three times a day for only four days and i did not feel any difference accept very jittery and sleepy and don't know if its because i'm anemic I weight about 105 lb. and am 5feet tall. I am constantly taking 40mg protonix in the evening but I wake up nauseated. Can I still stay on protonix and do the acv or do I have to quit the protonix and should I also limit the acv I take so I won't feel so jittery. also, how long does it take to see a differnce in the acid reflux if i continue to do the acv....please help desperate...."

10/14/2009: Rhonda from Phoenix, Az replies: "A friend of mine had a weakened valve and had surgery for it. She has been symptom free ever since. Sometimes I wish that where my problem so I could just fix it and be done with this constant discomfort in my throat."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  09/29/2009: Fgbimom from Arcadia, Florida writes: "I just started using 1 tsp. of ACV with 1tsp. of honey mixed in with just a little water. I take this three times daily. After taking this for a day and a half, I have a severe ulcer in my mouth, which causes my ear to hurt and my jaw to swell. And my lips have broken out with cold sores. Can you tell me if this is because I am taking this, and what might be happening? Could it be that my body is trying to detox, or is it just too much acid for my system?? Any knowledgeable help would be appreciated."

10/11/2009: Bunny from Santa Ana, Ca replies: "It could be detox, or you might just be allergic to it. I don't know why you are taking it, but I'd back off of it and try something else. A good green powder will do wonders. Go to a healthfood store and ask the staff for a recommendation. They are expensive, but the good ones are worth their weight in gold."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  09/08/2009: Marilyn from Oswego, Il writes: "Please could someone answer me this question? I have been having a terrible time with my skin itching and breaking out since taking ACV. Could I be allergic to it? What is the chance of this? I have a small scratch on my wrist and put diluted ACV on it and it started to itch and burn. I want to take this so bad but wonder if it could be causing all my skin problems. I need help ASAP . Thank you so very much"

09/10/2009: Marilyn from Oswego, Il replies: "Please someone help me with this. Today I am breaking out more with the itchy spots. Dr. said its exzema or hives. I dont think it is.My skin is also very dry and flaky. I need answers please or suggestions. ted, comments from you would be so appreciated"

09/10/2009: Hope from Sacramento, Ca replies: "Are you blood type A? If so, apple cider vinegar is not for you and should be avoided."

09/10/2009: Crystal from Salyersville, Ky replies: "I have been using ACV for maybe a week now and my blood type is A ..What is the reasoning behind someone with type A should not use ACV? Thanks"

09/10/2009: Suzi from Missoula, Montana replies: "Hope, I AM type A blood, and ACV has only produced miracles in my life (see my previous posts and testimonials)..I'm sure you mean well, but I'm living healthy proof that blood type be darned, it works amazingly for myself and my son who is also blood type A. Just wanted the EC community to recognize another opinion. Thanks"

09/10/2009: Marilyn from Oswego, Il replies: "Why cant type A blood type take acv??????"

09/10/2009: Paulo from Campinas, Brazil replies: "I second that. I'm also type "A" and ACV is AMAZING. Been drinking it for 2 years now with excellent results (great immunity, great skin, less sweating and odor, good digestion, etc).

Give it a try (3 weeks at least) and have your own opinion. We are all different, it may or may not work."

09/10/2009: Hope from Sacramento, Ca replies: "I totally respect what you are saying and indeed, the blood type diet is not perfect. Some things apply to some people. I am an A and took ACV religiously for 4 weeks to lower my blood pressure and it did nothing but upset my stomach and my blood pressure remained the same. I then realized according to Dr D'Adamo, that vinegar is an avoid food for type A's.

I REALLY do wish I could take ACV and keep my body happy, but it is not possible in my case.

Thank you for your thoughts...."

09/10/2009: Kathy from Dubois, Pa replies: "I personally think the whole "eating for blood type" thing is nonsense. I am type A, too, and if I ate the way they tell types A's to eat, I'd be a diabetic hypothyroid with heart failure and gas.

I eat some meat, lots of eggs, yogurt, cheese, some fish, but lots of nuts and seeds, and lots of veggies (but few legumes) plus a little fruit (including dried fruit). I use lots of raw homemade (grass-fed, from the farm) butter, plus some olive oil. I avoid sugar, starches (all flour products of any kind), coffee and tea, and I supplement with a complete round of supplements to make up for the nutritional deficiencies of our food supply (even organic food). And I eat alot of fermented foods because fermentation seems to enhance food's nuritional profile. As far as I can tell, my saliva has a pH of around 7.5 - 8.0. My diet seems to keep me slim, energetic and youthful looking. Long story short, I listen to my body and eat what makes me feel healthy and energetic and avoid anything that drains me of energy, no matter how healthy it makes someone else feel, or what any ideologies have to say about it. It really is a matter of biochemical individuality and getting to know yourself.

p.s. I have started to make my own cheese from raw milk."

09/10/2009: Sara from The Beach, Canada replies: "i really dont understand the blood type diet. my neighbor is running around telling everyone what they should and should not eat according to their blood type. but animals have blood types too and i dont see too many vegetarian or raw food animals out there. i think they would be surprised to learn they have been eating wrong all this time..."

09/11/2009: Pahlee from Phila., Pa replies: "I READ ON THIS SITE THAT HYDROGEN PEROXIDE SOAKED COTTENBALLS ANF APPLIED TO THE AFFECTED AREAS OF THE FACIAL AREAS ONCE OR TWICE A DAY WILL ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM THAT YOU HAVE, I BELIEVE THAT IT SAID THAT YOU WOULD SEE A DIFFERENCE OVER NIGHT, GOOD LUCK IN YOUR ENDEAVORS"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  08/30/2009: Granny Laura from Waco, Tx writes: "My son takes apple cider vinegar for his digestion, my daughter will sometimes drink pickle juice for her GERD. So, I thought I would try some ACV myself. I swallowed about a tablespoon and chased it w/half a glass of water. Surprise!! My stomach immediaterly started burning below the ribs on the right side, a place bigger than a quarter.

I had been sick and passed out in the floor a couple of nights before. I'd had a huge pain that radiated to most of my body from my stomach or heart area. My nitro pill did nothing so it wasn't my heart. I would have called an ambulance but I couldn't get to a phone. When I got better I just went to bed. The doc did tests for h pylori and c difficile the next day, no results yet. But, I think I now have my own diagnosis after the ACV and looking up the kind of pain I had. It was a perforated ulcer.

Now, I said all that to say this: If you feel anything in your stomach when you take the ACV, see a doctor ASAP!!! I had been having that pain only not as bad (dull ache)and just ignored it.

I did a lookup on VCO for ulcers and am now taking that. I had some I had bought for cooking, But, the best use for it I had found was washing myself in the shower w/exfoliating gloves and putting VCO on head to toe after I turn the water off in the shower. Then I dry off w/an old towel. WOW! My skin looks and feels GREAT!"

11/07/2009: Loretta from Columbia, Tennessee replies: "I have been taking ACV on and off for 30 years. I find that when I take it I am more alert, my appetite for sugar slows and I can loose weight easier. I have an under active thyroid, and have type "A" blood. Try soaking your feet in it. Amazing how much dead skin comes off. I have a book, The Amazing effects of ACV, and in it suggests that you try detoxing by drinking diluted ACV and water for 48 hours. Catch your urine in a clear container. See how many poisons the ACV washes from your system. I've never been able to do that. You can also make a vinegrette for your salad or soak cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes in ACV, you are still getting the benefits."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  08/22/2009: Karunadiva from San Rafael, Cailfornia, United States writes: "Hi, I tried the apple cider vinegar remedy because I ready so many posts that it helped with acid reflux. First I took 1 tablespoon with 16 ounces of water, I woke up in the night with right side kidney pain, the second time I took 1 tablespoon with 8 ounces of water and had both side kidney pain. So I get it that it was too strong, but I am afraid to try again because I am worried I have harmed my kidneys. So my questions are: Has anyone had kidney pain with ACV? Do you think it could have harmed my kidneys? Do you think by simply dillutting it more, it will help? Why DOES this hurt my kidneys? Basically any infor on ACV and its relationship to kidneys would be helpful. thanks"

08/22/2009: Josephine from Cos Cob, CT replies: "What kind of apple cider vinegar were you drinking? Also, what exact points on your body were hurting? Lower back? Mid-thoracic?"

08/23/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "To Karunadiva from San Rafael, Cailfornia:

First thing to come to mind when reading your post about kidney pain after taking ACV & wondering if you have damaged your kidneys is "probably not". Knowing that vinegar can dissolve calcifications, I wonder if you possibly had some early renal stone formations and the ACV started them moving. Vitamin C is also known to start kidney stones to moving and causing pain.

If your kidneys are still functioning normally and has the usual color, I wouldn't be concerned about it. A transient change in color can also occur with movement of stones."

10/26/2009: Megan from Warner Robins, Ga replies: "I believe I have experienced something similar to this. For the last two weeks I have taken 2T ACV 1-3x/day for health benefits. The last few months I had suspected a cyst on an ovary. Though I have not been to the dr. I have had enough, I know what it feels like and even for them to rupture. Last Thursday and for 2 days I was in pain. I knew that this one had ruptured. I continued taking the ACV. Was it the ACV? I don't know. But I do know that since I have started taking this stuff: My sinuses have cleared, I have lost a few pounds and overall I feel pretty darn good. Back pain requiring daily meds of IBP, muscle relaxer and pain reliever are pretty much gone and I only take a few pain reliers a week the last week or so. I think my skin is looking better and oh yeah...my dog no longer has fleas. Depending on what your reaction is, it could just be your bodys way of removing toxins and cleaning up/repairing what is wrong. I too think it could possibly be kidney stones that are causing the pain. Get that one checked and and try the ACV at a later date or less dosage."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  07/25/2009: Alicia from Madrid, Spain writes: "Hello everyone and thanks Earth Clinic for your site.

I have started using ACV and all my joints hurt, knees the most, the ends of finger and toes and like the whole body aches, is anybody experiencing this delight, is it a side effect of detoxing or what can it be? I like the instant tonic of ACV with apple juice or pineapple juice but this feeling is scaring me a little. HELP HELP SOS!! Thank you people."

07/24/2009: Kristin from Lincoln, Nebraska writes: "I see many side effects of ACV that mirror what happens to the body when it detoxes. Do an internet search on symptoms when detoxing. Aches, pains, breakouts, headaches, etc., are all symptoms of the body dumping toxins into the bloodstream to be expelled. Of course if any of these symptoms are life-threatening immediately seek medical attention. ACV sends the body into rapid cleansing/detoxing. I would recommend if the symptoms are too great/unbearable to cut back on the amount of ACV being taken. I've been drinking around 2 TBSP of ACV mixed in with home-brewed kombucha twice a day for around two months, and I'm still breaking out, but every day it's a little better. I just know it's from my body detoxing a lot of built-up garbage. I only get nauseous when taking my ACV/Kombucha blend if I don't have any food in my stomach."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/30/2009: bang55 from Kuala Lumpur, WP writes: "After reading so much about ACV, I tried it and have been on it for more then 1 month now. Initially I felt energized and great. Now I always end up with bloated tummy and recently for the past 10 days, my tongue is bitter. Temporarily I have stopped taking it. I started off with 1 tbls of ACV and 1 tbls of Blackstrap Molasses in 8 oz of purified water. I want to continue with ACV for at least 6 months, can anyone advice. Thanks"

06/30/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx replies: "i had a similar problem when i was taking ACV in large doses (1 tablespoon in 8 ounces of water)

when i would take it like this every night i would have bloating and gas when i was trying to sleep - very uncomfortable.

i didn't want to entirely stop the ACV - so what i started doing was to put about 1/4 to a 1/2 a teaspoon into 32 ounces of water and drink it throughout the day.

this has worked great for me. i still get about a teaspoon of ACV per day and it doesn't give me gas or bloating.

also i had a very bad reaction to blackstrap molasses. i tried several times to take it starting with 1/8 teaspoon and every time i would become dizzy, have diahrreah, and just feel horrible. i stopped taking it and each time it would take a few days to feel normal again. this was organic no sulfur added blackstrap molasses.

from what i've read blackstrap molasses contains natural occuring sulfites (or is it sulfates?)and that would make sense because i have trouble with sulfites/sulfates (red wine gives me an instant headache, etc)."

08/22/2009: Serena from New York, New York replies: "After reading this website, I am determined to try ACV, however in reading all of these "side effects" I am foced to ask the question, Do people actually know the difference between a teaspoon and a tablespoon? 1 teaspoon is 5 milliliters and 1 tablespoon is 15 milliliters (TRIPLE the dose!) Working at a pharmacy, I know the importance of starting a new medication at a small dose, and working your way up to the recommended dose. This way, it gives your body time to get used to the medication and also if side effects/allergies occur, they will occur with much less intensity at a lower dose, and if they continue at the same low dose for a full week, there probably is a problem and you should stop and consult your physician. The other important part of working your way up to the recommended dose is the recommended dose part, which I understand is 1 to 2 teaspoons (5-10 milliliters) diluted up to three times per day. Maximum daily dose of 6 teaspoons (or 30 milliliters) When starting anything new, you do not want to start at the maximum daily dose, overloading your system with anything new and different can cause extreme consequenses. I am excited to try this remedy for my fatigue, allergies, depression, IBS, acid reflux and insomnia, however I will probably start at 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 milliliters) ONCE per day and increase as needed IF needed every few days or so. I'll write back in a few weeks and let you know how this works for me."

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  06/13/2009: REKHA from PUNE, INDIA writes: "I have been regularly reading your website, thank you, its truly informative &lucid. I have been having varicose veins, &controlled diabetes, i took ACV and felt much better, but i feel i'm loosing weight, while my doc insists i should gain atleast 2 kgs--- please guide and advise, my husband suddenly had gout, has been taking ACV for the past 2 days, though the pain is less, the swelling has not yet gone., please guide."

10/04/2009: Wrldtrvlr from Orlando, Fl replies: "I have been taking 2 tblespns of ACV with a dash of honey and chasing it with 8 oz. of water for 7 days for gout after I gave out of the Rx from my physician and the pain returned 2 days later. The ACV dulls the pain, but I too still have the swelling and can't put weight on the foot. I have also eliminated everything except chicken and a few veggies like broccoli from my diet, It seems ACV may just be a temporary fix. Has anyone had better results with Gout?"

10/04/2009: Kathy from Dubois, Pa replies: "A sovereign remedy for gout is cherries. It used to be thought that it had to be sour cherries, but it turns out that any kind of cherries will do. You can get sour ("pie") cherries canned in water in just about any grocery store in the U.S. Just make sure it is not "cherry pie filling", where the cherries are swimming in a starchy, sugary glop. What you are looking for is plain cherries canned in water. The ingredient list on the back of the can should say "ingredients: cherries, water", and NOTHING else. Start by eating about 3/4 cup of cherries a day, and then cut back to 1/4 to 1/2 cup after awhile, once you start to feel better. Adding cherries to your diet on a more or less continuous basis ought to keep the gout away.

p.s. some people just make more uric acid than others and so are prone to gout."

10/04/2009: Candy from Fort Madison, Iowa, Usa replies: "try some transdermal magnesium. you just soak your feet in it for about 20minutes. works."

10/07/2009: Alain from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada replies: "Answer to REKHA from PUNE, INDIA about husband's gout

See my post(s) in EC http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/gout.html

I basically mentioned about using pH paper to measure urine's pH. The less acidic the urine, the more uric acid will be eliminated through the urine. Drinking more water will help. Fresh and good quality veggies and less protein will also help. Alkalizing foot baths will help.

Check http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/alkalizing_formulas.html for some alkalizing suggestions. If swelling or water retention, Reduce sodium intake.

You can contact me at alainwiel[at]yahoo(dot)ca if you have questions.

Good Luck"

I am at wits end here with a terrible uti and antiboitics so far isnt doing the job totally. I was using acv before the infection and now just so sick. Please....i need help"

05/29/2009: Sally from Ogden, UT replies: "Serenity, try D-mannose for your uti/bladder problems. In my circle of users, it is 100% effective. They take 700-1400mg a day. It is a simple sugar which attaches to bugs in the bladder and carries them out in urination. Google for full explanation. Can be obtained from any health food store or one of the many catalog/on-line vitamin vendors on Google. Please let us all know how it does for YOU."

05/29/2009: Sangeetha from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands replies: "Hi: I get yeast infection every time I start ACV after a gap...I don't know the reason, but the same ACV helps relieve it too. For the relief, I use 2 tbsp. of the organic ACV in a jar of water and rinse the affected part with it. I have also tried soaking a face cloth in water and ACV and applying to the effected part for a few minutes. Do this 2-3 times a day for 2 to 3 days and you might be rid of it."

05/30/2009: Serenity from Oswego, Il replies: "Thank you for your response. Me also..seems like when I stop and then start again I get the infection. Right now they took me off of microbid cause of horrible reactions. dont know what i will do now. I am trying d-mannose to see if it willl help. I will try the application like you said. If anyone has anymore suggestions PLEASE email me. I need all the help I can get now. Thanks and God bless!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/15/2009: Pamm from Alabaster, Alabama writes: "I have Addison's Disease and I have tried taking ACV on several occasions and yes it does help with all kinds of problems allergies, headaches, and arthritis. What I have noticed while taking my Organic Acv is swelling in my fingers soon after and my fingers are very red and shiny and alot of discomfort. It only happens when I take Acv so how can I find out why the Acv is doing this and what can I do to get the swelling to go down in my fingers. My urine Ph was very acidic this morning after taking Acv 3x times yesterday. 2 tablespoons in water. Does it have something to do with lowering the potassium levels? I want to take Acv w/o the swelling in my fingers. Please help.."

[WARNING!]  07/30/2009: Ezra Gardener from Detroit, MI replies: "This also use to happen to me when I took ACV. However it would occur in my feet. [SIDE EFFECTS]  05/03/2009: Julie from Tallahassee, Florida writes: "Hi everyone. I'm 18 years old, in good health, but I get terrible hay-fever and cat allergies. I just started taking ACV for my allergies, 2 teaspoons in 8 ounces of water three times a day. The first night I got a rash on the top of my left hand, tiny itchy red bumps, and less on my right hand. The next morning I felt itchy all over my body (the rash had gone down though, no spreading), but at least my allergies were completely better. I mean VERY itchy... on my arms, hands, back, neck, legs... everywhere. I decided that day to just have 2 teaspoons in 8 ounces of water once instead of three times, but now it's the next morning and I'm more itchy than ever! The one serving yesterday wasnt enough for my allergies either, as they are very bad now. Do I have to choose between having allergies and being completely itchy? I don't know what to do, but I really want to get rid of my allerigies and if anyone thinks this is a temporary side effect, I'm willing to try to wait it out and keep taking the ACV. Oh, and it's ___s organic, raw, unfiltered ACV, with the "mother." I'm about to major in voice, singing classical music, but I can't do that if i'm having allergies all of the time! Help, please?"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/03/2009: Sangeetha from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands writes: "I stumbled upon your website sometime in December 08 while I was surfing the net for home remedies for a small kidney stone. I tried the lemon juice olive oil recipe, but it didn't work (maybe because my stone might not be calcium oxalate). Then I read about the ACV remedy and I started it not just for my kidney stone but also for my food alleries. I started with IGA brand, went on to Heinz and finally to Bragg when I found it in the stores here. For quite some time I took 2 tbsp in a big glass of water twice a day. Later I realised it is supposed to be 2 tsp (not 2 tbsp) so I changed to 2 tsp in a big glass of water twice a day. I always added a dash of salt, pepper and lemon juice to improve the taste. When I would skip it for a couple days (weekends) or more and then have the first glass, I would feel like I am drunk (I never drink) and wouldn't understand clearly what was going on for around me for a couple of hours. In around mid March I reduced to just 1 glass a day (as I would get headaches on weekends, after drinking ACV thru the week, I never get headaches otherwise, except after too much exposure to sun) and after a couple weeks I reduced it to just 1 tsp in 1 big glass of water. While it helped me a lot with my kidney stone and allergies, I didn't feel quite right - like I would feel drunk if I drank it after a gap. I have stopped drinking it for 2 weeks now as I started realising that I haven't been feeling myself. I have been working as a secretary for the last 23 years and I am excellent at my work. But for the last few weeks, I have been forgetting to do things at work, that come just naturally to me. I have been forgetting to do important things. I work as a secretary, so work done wrongly due to my forgetfulness is being notice by my boss and our clients. I have never ever been like this. I never have had to make an effort to remember anything and can multi task like my second nature. But remmebering to do the routine work has now become a burden for me and I am worried that don't know what will I do wrong at work next. ACV is the only thing I have done different in these months, so I am wondering if it is ACV that has caused the memory loss (and lack of concentration) in me. One of my colleagues had mentioned that I should not be mixing lemon juice with ACV as one is alkaline and the other acidic (I don't know which is which). Why has this happened to me? Has ACV either alkalized or acidified my body too much? Which one of the two it has done? And how can I get my body being back to the state it was before? How can I nullify the effects that ACV has done on my body.

I would greatly appreciate solution to this as it is effecting my work and my self-esteem. I just don't feel myself anymore.

Sangeetha"

05/04/2009: Ingrid from Lawndale, California, USA replies: "Dear Sangeetha,

All fermented fruits will have the alcohol effect, tha's why you feel like you are drunk, the side effects will not last very long, drink a lot of water, and if you can get a hold of a fresh coconut, drink a lot of the water, there is nothing better for UTI, and UT related anything. COCONUT water, good, natural refreshing won't cost much $$$ either. Please let me knw how you feel afterword, and regarding your work, it might not even be related with what you took, it might just be the stress of what you were going through."

05/05/2009: Sangeetha from Gramd Cayman, Cayman Islands replies: "Hi Ingrid

Thank you for your response. I doubt if we get fresh coconut water here in the Cayman Islands (though I do see plenty of them on the trees), but we do get the canned ones. However, I am allergic to coconut and generally try to avoid it. Stress may be a part of my work related, but it doesnt make you feel drunk and numb all day. I I am feeling drunk and numb even this morning and problems at work have gotten worse and I am seeing my doctor today to understand what's happening to me and to find a cure."

05/06/2009: Sangeetha from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands replies: "Further to my below post, I must add that I have hypothyroid which seems to have been affected by ACV. I have done blood test for thyroid and the results will come out shortly. The condition I described in my earlier (below) post is called brain fog as stated Cathy's post in the link below:

http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/hypothyroidism.html#COCONUTOIL_22517

I have the exact same condition and have had problems at work due to forgetting, not able to concentrate, etc.

So I guess while ACV did wonders with my kidney stone and food allergies, those with thyroid (in my case hypothyroid) must tread with fear or consult their doctors before using ACV. If I didn't have thyroid, I guess I might have continued taking ACV."

10/03/2009: Cat from Austin, Tx replies: "I too have taken 1-2 TAB of ACV, _____'s brand and at first it was great; lost 4 pounds, had clear skin, more energy, no joint pain, eyesight improved etc.. Then, I began noticing that I get dizzy when I take it and got a candida rash on my face. Both went away when I stopped using it. Tested it again one morning and found I was dizzy, my blood pressure and blood sugar shot up, I itched; this was just 1 tablespoon in a huge glass of water. By nightfall, the candida rash was back around the nose and mouth. Conclusion: ACV is great for some but not for all, or all the time. I test it - realized it - eliminated it's DAILY use. Now, I use it only as a medicine when eating badly and when seasonal allergies cause symptoms. Candida is kept very active with VINEGAR plus sugar and wheat in all its forms. I now know that as a life-long carbo addict with thyroid, candida and pre-diabetic issues my DIET had to change. When I'm consistently low carb for at least 2 weeks, my itching, moodiness, hard dry feet, shoulder pain, etc.. diabetic/candida/thyroid symptoms disappear. AND, my eyesight and voice get better. Low carb for me means eating the following daily:

6-8oz of meat or fish
egg yolks (allergic to whites),
raw salad with olive/coconut oil & spices (no vinegar)
unlimited cooked veggies
1 fruit
Gallon of water a day

On this diet I turn into SUPER WOMAN! with consistent weight loss, great memory and energy, AND, no pains or allergies. When seasonal allergies occur or I over-carb, 1 "teaspoon" of ACV before bed eliminates symptoms, but, I get right back on my low carbo diet the next day. Research and test what you are putting into your body and don't be afraid to cut back or eliminate what does not work for YOU ....peace out...CAT"
