Heat water (don't boil) on stove and add salt and about 1/2 cup of spring water then drink - you can use coffee cup size cup. Nice before bedtime."

My question pertains to Ted's recommendations of using sea salt. I have switched to sea salt for all salt useage, but wonder if it is necessary to always mix it with water? Can I just use it for all my salt needs? I'm sure I use at least 1/4 tsp a day, which is what Ted recommends to mix in 1 ltr of water. Anyone know?"

In one the writer stated that the only use sea salt to salt their food, etc. but your body also needs iodine. In another post the writer stated that by brushing iodine tincture, Lugol's or Betadine on the bottom of your feet and heels your body will absorb the iodine transdermally. Your nose running and liquidy, means that you have too much iodine in your body. They suggest that now instead of brushing their feet daily, they only do it every 4 to 5 days, but you would need to decide what is best for your own situation."

03/26/2009: David Aames from New York, New York: "I would like to know if you can take SEA SALT daliy. Say if I wanted to put some in my water throughout the day. I eat healthy and dont use table salt. Any salt/sodium I get is whatever is in the food I am eating.
But after reading how good this Sea Salt is for you I would like to know how much Sea Salt I can use daily if I am drinking say about 72 ounces of water daily.
I was thinking maybe 1/8 or 1/4 of a teaspoon in about 12oz of water a couple of times a day???
03/26/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx replies: "i do this sometimes. i just put a pinch of sea salt into my drinking water. the reason i started doing this was a few times when i got blood work done - the doctor asked me: don't you eat any salt? he said i was sodium deficient! i have never heard of that - but i realized that i really don't hardly ever eat fast food and i don't use much salt in my cooking - so i try to get my sodium this way. if anyone knows why this shouldn't be done... please write! thanks"
03/26/2009: C.S.M from VERO BEACH, FL replies: "There are new findings just reported about the benefits of low sodium intake. Here are 2 short articles that may clarify it.
I never add sodium to our foods--we too avoid processed foods and eat primarily a fresh vegetarian diet.
Slightly low sodium levels in the blood are usually related to fluid and water imbalance. If you are fairly healthy, avoiding salt shouldn't be unsafe for you unless you are exercising heavily in hot weather.
(I also see this, clinically, in older people.)
You can probably get the trace 'sea salt amounts' of magnesium, calcium, etc from the vegetables you are eating
More of a concern is iodine deficiency:
We use a "sprinkle on" kelp supplement to add the iodine that we miss by not using table salt.

They have other minerals and are not just sodium chloride. Watch out for refined salts as they do raise sodium levels, but natural raw salts help balance sodium in the body."
[YEA] 02/06/2012: Teriinttown from Tacoma, Wa, Usa replies: "Salt has been a terribly maligned nutrient for many years. As a result, many people are on no salt diets and it is dangerous. Avoiding salt completely eventually throws the electrolytes out of balance.
My parents live at a senior community that has no salt meals. My mother was admitted to the hospital in arrest. She had "almost no detectible sodium" that caused horrible swelling because of excess potassium. This symptom is always assumed to be caused by excess sodium!
The key is that we need a balance of minerals, and that is the beauty of sea salt. My parents now carry the Redmond shaker to their meals."

So what happens when you don't get enough protein? An entire host of premature diseases especially those associated with immune function.
I am currently using the Sea Salt and Himalayan Pink Salt which make foods taste sooo much better than the industrial iodized stuff."

Being a yoga teacher I am also advising of the benefits of neti, using himalayan sole, in which you inhale it through one nostril and exhale it through the other. I do notice increased benefit over regular sea salt, again increased vitality and calmness, a sense of well-being. I guess that steam inhalation would have even more benefits for bronchitis or asthma. After posting my comments I decided to modify my regimen for arthritis and chronic constipation to the following: Still one teaspoon Celtic Grey Organic Sea Salt on an empty stomach each morning in a 16 oz bottle spring water, followed by a 10oz cup of spring water, with the juice of one fresh squeezed lemon, I teaspoon ACV, 1/8th Teaspoon Organic Cayenne, and an optional teaspoon of either Organic Agave, or Organic Grade B Maple Syrup for taste. I just tried a cup using the Organic Blue Agave I purchased at Trader Joe's, and the taste was quite good. It's best to avoid fluoridated water it you can, that's why I use the bottled Spring Water. I will probably add a second cup of the tea a bedtime. Will post again after a few months to advise how well it worked."Replies

By day 3 of the cleanse the 2 teaspoons of Sea Salt in 32 oz of Fluoride free water every morning (on an empty stomach) really made a difference. My constipation cleared up, and the arthritis in my lower back, hip, and knees really improved. After reading the posts from all of you I am going to try drinking a 16.4 oz of spring water with 1 teaspoon Sea Salt, and two Tablespoons ACV in it, and see how that works. Ron"

I suspect that if you do not take salt (preferably unprocessed sea salt) the body will break down the calcium in the bones to get at the salts they contain. I've done a lot of research on dehydration but have not seen this correlation anywhere. It is merely my suspicion due to the relationship between chronic dehydration combined with low salt intake teachings and the epidemic of osteoporosis. It is suspected that over 75% of people in the US are chronically dehydrated which means that 75% of the human bodies in the US are operating in emergency, water rationing mode. Sipping doesn't count and neither do other liquids. The body does not process other liquids the same way it processes plain water on an empty stomach. Water is used by every system in the body. Including the process it must go through to steal water from the colon. My personal rule of thumb is that any liquid that is not plain water belongs to the colon."Replies

Drink 1/2 your body weight of water in ounces, daily. Example 180 lb = 90 oz. of water daily. Divide that into 8 or 10 oz. glasses and that's how many glasses you will need to drink, daily. Use 1/4 tsp. of salt for every quart of water you drink. Use salt liberally with food. As long as you drink the water, you can use the salt. Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic drinks. These are diuretics and will dehydrate you. Every 6 oz. of caffeine or alcohol requires an additional 10 to 12 oz. of water to re-hydrate you."

[WARNING!] 12/07/2006: Troy from Hawaii: "I just got out of bed from an overdose of sea salt! I am home today from work with a bad head cold, I found this website and desperate to feel better I drank two Tablespoons instead of two Teaspoons of sea salt. I mixed it in about 6 0z. of water so I could jug it quickly. Immediately I started to feel sick to my stomach so I laid down. I vomited and as the salt hit my intestines I got diarrhea that cleaned me out completely. I then fell asleep for two hours. I just got out of bed and am recovering from the overdose, however my nose did clear up. I still feel like I have a head cold and I am extremely thirsty with a headache. I think I'll go to plan B, just tough it out. I guess the moral is to read instructions carefully... especially when you are sick."
Sea Salt Foot Bath for Detoxing

How much salt exactly would you use, and how long would you leave feet in it for. I do believe it is used for detox so is it ok to use while on medication? [YEA] 07/20/2007: Joan from Wildwood, Florida: "I am suffering from many things at once. such as lower tract infections and thrush and shingles all at once/ Part of which is due to the many antibiotics I was prescribed for the bladder and lower GI track. One of the effects of shingles is it produces much anxiety because your muscles start to spasm and the spasms and pain mimic some very serious conditions. This is the third bout with shingles. The panic attacks were so serious the paramedics had to come out twice and one time to the hospital in the ambulance because my blood pressure soared up to dangerous levels. Well to get to the point... Out of desperation today because now I developed a sore in throat that feel like something is stuck in there and it is swollen red and yucky.. It was too sore to gargle. I had to pace the house for an hour to prevent a panic attack because I felt like my throat was closing up (this is side effect of thrush), When I calmed down an intuitive sense told me to just sip on water and salt. I only had sea salt at home put a very small amount about 1/16 tsp to 8 oz size purified water and sipped it over an hour. Then I got worried (no anxiety attack) I hurt myself because my mouth felt like it was drying up (my mouth might be responding to the thrush). Went got another glass of water and drink that plain. Gradually the puckered dry feeling went away. But the amazing thing is that the salt must have been absorbed through my mouth because I could taste salt water coming from my nose trickling down my throat. It felt very good and soothing. I went to the computer to research what damage sea salt can do to you and I got a confirmation rather than an antidote for toxins. I am waiting to see what improves next. Next time I am going to reach for the S A L T rather than 911 or visits to the doctors. Thanks Joan"
