[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 01/08/2012: Mike from Wilmette, Usa: "I've tried oil pulling for a few months with some short breaks. I'm using cold processed sesame oil. I've noticed a lot of benefits (reduced psoriasis, more energy--great substitute for morning coffee) but one side effect. My teeth seem to get more sensitive to cold and hot. Very noticably so. Anyone else have this problem? Would switching oil types help? By the way, I switched from Whole Foods brand to Spectrum and noticed a big change in freshness and taste."Replies
01/09/2012: Cf from Delaware, Usa replies: "I noticed an increase in hot/cold sensitivity when I began oil pulling, too. I use organic, extra virgin coconut oil. I'm not sure why the pulling increased the sensitivity, but after switching to a non-flouride toothpaste I longer have a problem."
01/09/2012: Cf from Delaware, USA replies: "Correction... after switching to a non-flouride toothpaste, I no longer have a problem."
05/14/2013: Mark from Newton Abbot, Devon Uk replies: "Hi Mike from Wilmette, Usa: This also happens with me. I did not have any issues with any of my teeth apart from one can be sensitive to extremely sweet foods like honey, but otherwise no problems. When I oil pull with black seed oil (BSO) my teeth often hurt like heck and are very sensitive to temperature for several days.
I only seem to get this with the BSO so now I use other oils I would suggest trying other oils until you find a suitable one for you also look into enamel issues of your teeth
I suspect the oil is merely highlighting an existing issue that is already there, In my case too much pineapple (very acidic) may have reduced my coating of enamel which then allowed the oil to highlight this problem
I am now looking into fixing my enamel properly through diet and no longer use BSO."
[YEA] 12/31/2011: Rosemary from White Rock, B.c., Canada: "I am a 55 y.o. female, blood type B-, and have only done oil pulling with sesame oil for about 2 weeks now and I am very pleased with the results. My teeth are cleaner, my skin looks youthful and my pores are smaller in the t- zone and am no longer struggling diverticulitis. I am also sleeping somewhat better. I experienced a small rash on my tongue from days 3 to 8 but it disappearred overnight. I love the information this site provides!"
[YEA] 09/24/2011: Miss. Burch from Brooklyn, N.y.: "I did the oil pulling with the sesame seed oil because I had a white coating on my tongue for years I could not get rid of and it worked wonders! I could tell a difference the same day I begin using it. I'm now on my third day and my tongue is nearly completely pink. I Love it! After I eat something, I check my tongue to see if the white coating has return and it have not. In the mornings, when I check it, it's still pretty in pinkish color! Again, I love this home remedy! So, thanks to whomever discovered this!!!"Replies
07/12/2012: Msjo from Des Moines, Iowa replies: "You may have acid reflux if you have white on your tongue.."
[YEA] 09/03/2011: Christofer from Denver, Colorado - Usa: "I have been doing OP with sesame for less than two weeks. Not only do I sleep better, cut down on excessive urination especially at night, weight loss, just general wonderful feelings, but my libido has returned like crazy. I am 62, but have suffered from psoriatic arthritis for years, and have lost sexual vitality for over a decade. NOW. What has happened? I am walking around with increased circulation, desire of youth and awakening with erections. I am sure now that my entire state of health has been affected by conjested toxins, but oh my God. This is wonderful! Can you give me more theory, or explanation for this wonderful change?"
07/25/2011: Om from Hope, B.c. Canada: "for oil pulling only sesame oil should be used. According to Ayurveda, this oil is able to penetrate all layers of tissue thus treating with deep reaching action.
Has anyone been able to reduce blood sugar, please respond kindly? Om"Replies
12/21/2012: Lili from Montreal, Canada replies: "You can try eating Chinese bitter melon for stabilization of blood sugar"
06/25/2011: Oilpuller from Gardena, Ca: "I keep reading that you must wait four hours after eating and one hour after drinking to oil pull. My mouth and teeth were improved after oil pulling for ten minutes each morning for six months with sesame oil. For instance, a tooth that had been slightly loose is now fine and my dentist complimented me on my dental hygiene. But he still found problems under the gums and I want to oil pull twice a day to see if it causes further improvement.
Waiting four hours after eating is hard for me and I can't see why two hours wouldn't be enough. What harm would there be in that? Has anyone tried it?"Replies
06/26/2011: Gtcharlie from Los Angeles, Ca, Usa replies: "I o/p with cold-pressed sesame seed oil every morning, then brush teeth with baking soda powder added to the low chlorine tooth paste. I then would sit down and browse the new posts on EC while eating my breakfast.
I am aware of the X hours before and after suggestion but decided not to follow based on my belief that any remedy that interferes with one's daily routine cannot be a long lasting remedy. I can see most of the benefits of o/p I gained. But I doubt anyone who separate their meals and o/p can tell you the difference in its effectiveness.
It is your choice, I think. I'd rather keep doing it everyday then skipping it for any reason."
[YEA] 08/02/2012: Maria from Charlote, Nc replies: "I'm 51 and my hot flashes disapeared about 2 weeks after I started doing oil pulling with unrefined organic sesame seed oil."
[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 06/09/2011: Traxxxi from San Jose, California, United States: "I recently started OPing every morning with Organic Sesame Oil and noticed immediate positive results: my skin softened and pores shrank dramatically (I actually got many compliments on my skin), my dry eye symptoms were completely gone after 15 years of suffering, my eczema started to disappear, my Chronic Fatigue lessened and I had more energy, and my chronic sinusitis started to clear up. I was truly amazed and in such relief!
After two weeks of OPing, some of my symptoms have returned and even worsened. My skin looks tired and dry again, my eyes are extremely dry, bloodshot and in pain, My fatigue is worse then ever and I have barely enough energy to get out of bed, my eczema is back, and suddenly I'm having dandruff. Luckily my sinusitis has not returned. What is happening??? I was so hopeful that I had finally found a cure for the ailments that had plagued me for so long. I have a myriad of other health issues, in addition to the aforementioned, that I was also hoping would eventually improve from OPing. I can't help but feel frustrated and heartbroken. Any insight and/or suggestions will be so much appreciated. Thank you!"Replies
06/09/2011: Mmsg from Somewhere, Europe replies: "do you make sure to drink after rinsing when you finish pulling?"
06/09/2011: Jeff from Dallas, Tx replies: "I am new to this site -- have been reading it non-stop over the last several days, so perhaps someone who is more seasoned than I will comment. But, it sounds like you have quite a few things going on there and would benefit from implementing more than just OPing. I would highly recommend switching your oil to Extra Virgin Coconut Oil for OPing, perhaps even taking a tablespoon or two a day for good measure. Also, read the section on Apple Cider Vinegar and its amazing effects. The last thing, and probably the most important, would be to take a good hard look at what kind of food you're consuming -- cut out all breads and sugars for a while. Have you done the Candida test where you spit into a glass of water and see if your spit is stringy? If it is, you need to go to the Candida section and plan your attack for defeating it. Hope this helps.

03/07/2011: Louise from Cork, Ireland: "Toasted sesame oil for oil pulling
Hi, I notice in the section on using sesame oil for oil pulling that the advice is not to use the toasted variety. Why is this? Is it harmful? Or just less effective?"Replies
08/02/2012: Louise from Waterford, Ireland replies: "Hi, Louise from Cork, I've been OP with toasted sesame oil...... Have you found out why you shouldn't use the toasted kind?? Its working fine for me. Maybe I'd get better results if I changed oil."
12/29/2012: sehjal from New York, U.s. replies: "The reason behind not using roasted sesame seed oil is that the process created some amount of trans fat."
[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 03/02/2011: Mare from Mechanic Lake, New Brunswick, Canada: "Hello,
Started oil pulling Feb 7th. I found it on internet was intriqued and looked into it. I figured it wouldn't hurt me. I tried EVOO. I have a strong reflux so it took a couple of attempts. I noticed a difference with my teeth after 2 days. Stains gone and when I woke up in the am no plaque. Amazing! I kept it to myself, I had a dentist app on the 28th and wanted to know what he thought. He was quite impressed. Said he never saw my gums ever look so healthy. Hardly any plaque, no sensitivity and healthy gums. He said he would look into it and wrote this website down. I have tired coconut oil, but enjoy it better in my coffee and on my skin and hair. My question at long last, I just started sesame oil, and have noticed a smell like wood burning, frequently. Has anyone experienced any strong smells? It seems to be always there. Appreciate your feedback!"
01/17/2013: Sue from Johns Creek, Ga replies: "Sesame seed oil has distictive smell which is wood burning smell as you described it. If you are not fond of it, you can perhaps switch to another oil. Although sesame oil is the oil to do the job. Hope it helped."
02/27/2011: Glynell from Kilgore Texas, Usa: "I Ihave been op for about 7 days, I have definite flu like symptoms, however I have coughed up, blown more junk out my nose, and cleared more junk out my respritory system, than ever, my teeth feel very clean, the aches in my arm, and knees are gone, I am expecting my skin to respond also, my toilet habits are improving daily. I am also drinking 8 0z. water first thing in morning with 7 drops food grade 35% hydrogen peroxide. and I believe this is definitely making me feel so much better....I praise Jesus for learning about this site... 07/12/2012: Msjosie from Des Moines, Iowa replies: "My stomach really hurts after the fist day of using the oil pulling with sesame oil -_-
The stomach pain woke me up last night and today it is so painful, I don't want to move around or bend over. Did I do something wrong? or does that mean it's working?? :("
10/14/2012: Caitlin from Austin, Tx replies: "I know that I'm replying late, but your severe stomach pain was alarming to me. Did you stop OP? Was this a problem when you switched oils? Did you see a doctor? Did you pass stones? My mother-in-law has severe pains as well; she found that taking 1/2 tsp. of coconut oil stops her stomach pains which helps her sleep at night. At 77, she has diverticulosis, hiatia hernia, chrionically loose stools, cysts, collasped colon... you name it (except for cancer), she's had it within her stomach. Also, her weak stomach (and age) has made her more prone to food poisoning sypmtoms if she eats ANY foods that are even slightly off at a restaurant. Now, whenever she eats out, she takes a garlic capsule after her meal and has eliminated that problem. But, she says that coconut oil ihas brought her the most relief she's had in years."
[NAY] 02/13/2011: Unclayaiken from Los Angeles, Ca: "Nay for sasame oil pulling.
I have eczema on my scalp and gave sesame oil pulling a shot for a whole single week. Nothing's changed on my scalp at all. No signs of any healing. No signs of anything.
I also dislike oil pulling because it's such a time waster. I have to block out 20 minutes in the morning to swish oil around. And it makes my mouth tired doing so. I don't really see any difference is in actually taking a dose of sesame oil over just swishing it around, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, for 20-minutes.
I've started Mother ACV on my scalp and am seeing results. But that's another review for another time."
01/15/2011: Lisa from Kokomo, Indiana: "oil pulling-can you use toasted sesame oil?"Replies
01/16/2011: Brenda from St Saviour, Jersey Channel Islands replies: "Hi in answer to the question can you use toasted sesame seed oil for oil pulling, the answer is no. This answer and more can be found on the oil pulling section on this site. Hope this helps."
12/30/2010: Therese from St Johnsbury, Vermont: "Hi, I have been oil pulling with sesame oil for a week and I have noticed that all my symptoms are much worse, almost exagerated to the point of not being to handle the pain! Everything I have read about oil pulling says that this probably is a "healing crisis" and I should continue with the oil pulling so that I can get better BUT I have to admit that I didn't think I would feel this bad!
I have the following symptoms: dizziness, pain in my neck, upper back and arms (which I have had some neck problems in the past), also the dark circles underneath my eyes are actually darker, I feel exhausted and my anxiety is through very high... Basically I feel and look like a mess!! I pull oil for 20 minutes every morning. Has anyone else had a healing crisis as bad as mine? I hope these symptoms will lessen soon. This site has been a HUGE inspiration for me! Thank you for all the information and personal stories! Therese"Replies
12/31/2010: Juliet from Nashville, Tn replies: "Hi Theresa, My understanding of a healing crisis is that it only lasts a few days (like no more than 3). If it lasts longer than that it is not a healing crisis- it means that your body isn't in need of that particular treatment at this time. I started oil pulling with coconut oil and my skin broke out and stayed broken out for a couple weeks while oil pulling and everytime I tried after that. I stopped. Got some energy healing work done and then tried again a month later and it helped. Another thing is maybe sesame oil is not the best oil for you. You might want to try a different oil."
12/22/2010: Billy72 from Devon, Uk: "I've been oil pulling now for 4 days with sesame oil but so far have not noticed any benefits. I am pretty healthy with my diet, I don't smoke or drink but have had dermatitis for the last 3 months which is now clearing up due to my blasting it with iodine(ouch). My general health has always been very poor and I suppose my question is, how long do you have to do it before you start to notice any benefits?
12/22/2010: Brendan from Adelaide, South Australia replies: "Hi Billy, In my experience you might not notice any changes for a while. I started oil pulling a while ago and did it for several weeks and then gave up because I didn't notice any differences, but I resumed oil pulling recently and have been doing it for the last month or so and I have to say, I have turned from a sceptic into a believer as it has gotten rid of my sensitive teeth. I used to get tooth pain when I drank cold water or went from cold to hot too quickly but one day while rinsing my mouth after oil pulling I noticed something, when I felt the usual sensation of the pain coming I noticed as that sensation built it got to a point when I expected a pain to kick in but then it suddenly stopped and I felt the sensation subside, it was quite an odd feeling but it made me think, maybe this stuff does work. I've continued oil pulling and I am now convinced it has even further fixed the problem as I get no pain or sensitivity any more. It's crazy to think something that sounds so silly and simple at first, actually works. It has really made me think about what is possible. I think you should give it a fair go as four days is way too short to tell. I know its time consuming and a bit uncomfortable but you do get used to it and I find now I can just tune out and go about doing whatever I need to do in the morning without it bothering me. I use sesame oil and ive just started using hemp oil too, I do one of each now for 20 mins for each every morning and then rinse thoroughly and drink half a litre of water before breaky. Also I'm interested to know how iodine helped your dermatitis, could you write a bit about how you used it as I have dermatitis on my face which is a massive problem for me. Thanks mate, Brendan."
11/13/2010: Anita from Hartford, Connecticut: "I have tried oil pulling with coconut oil with no results. Now I want to try with Sesame Oil but am having trouble finding it. Is cold pressed OK? Does it have to be refined? Where do you get the right kind?"Replies
11/17/2010: Kallu from Omaha, Ne replies: "Try Chinese stores for bulk seasame oil. If I don't have time for the Chinese store I just get my oils at WholeFoods. Unrefined Sesame Oil is what you need."
