[YEA]  01/26/2007: Tunesia from Louisville, KY writes: "I''ve been oil pulling now for 3 mths with olive oil with amazing results. I used to wake up with joint soreness every morning. That ended after the first day for me and I also noticed that I sleep great and can get right out of the bed and function in the morning. my teeth are whiter, and skin is clear. I never had a problem with arthritis in my hands but pulling brought it to the surface and got rid of it I ached for two weeks and it's gone and hasn't been back. I quickly advised my family to start and now 4 of them are with favorable results. It definately does get worse before getting better, but stick with it. My Aunt is in her worsening stages of her ailments but looking forward to getting better."

[YEA]  09/13/2006: David from Phoenix, AZ writes: "Oil pulling cured Brain Fog, Produced Whiter Teeth, Face used to be wrinkled around eyes but now amazingly smooth. I use expeller pressed organic virgin olive oil. I do a series of 3 flushes in the morning lasting seven minutes each and repeat the process just before bedtime. I have read reports that the mouth starts to re-absorb the very toxic used oil when prolonging (the oil pull) with the first tbs of oil for 15-20 minutes. Take the extra effort and expense and at least renew oil at the halfway point. I'm hooked for life. Combine this with an epsom/ olive oil liver flush for even better results. I removed over 2,500 bilium stones. (Confirmed by a lab)"

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  Lisa from Port of Spain, Trinidad writes: "I began oil pulling 3 weeks after I suddenly developed very horrible bad breath. I have no cavities, am not a smoker, dont drink alcohol, coffee and carbonated beverages and I'm a vegetarian. I used EVOO as i couldnt get Sesame or Sunflower oil. The oil pulling has done wonders for my gums and teeth, my gums are more pink and my teeth are now a lot whiter. A gap i had between 2 teeth has closed up and there is no 'gap' anymore. However the bad breath remains and it is driving me crazy as i have to interact with lots of people. I keep wondering if i should continue with the oil pulling: will the bad breath go away eventually or do i need to use other 'remedies' as well, am I suffering from the herx effect or is my body too acidic? Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks."

[YEA]  12/23/2010: Kai from Seattle, Wa replies: "Best thing ive found for bad breath is h202 (hydrogen peroxide) even the basic 3 dollar bottle from the drugstore will work. Its pretty amazing, I smoke and the ONLY thing that takes the taste and smell out of my mouth is hydrogen peroxide (confirmed by my girlfriend haha) I can even taste the smoke when I spit out the peroxide, it bubbles it all out, hold it in your mouth closed until there is pressure building up from the bubbling, maybe 5 minutes.

If the oil pulling is giving you the bad breath (though that doesn't make much sense, there's nothing in oil that smells bad but may be causing a reaction) I would do this for awhile and see if the bad breath continues, then stop the OP and see if it goes away. One more thought, you may have tonsil stones or some other abcess in your mouth thats collecting bacteria. I had a bad case of strep awhile back that permanently messed up one of my tonsils, there are big spaces in it now and bacteria collect and form "tonsil rocks" its really gross but very treatable and very common. Just a thought, good luck!"

PEANUT OIL

02/27/2010: Maria from Clarkesville, Georgia, Usa writes: "Hi there,

I used to use triple refined sunflower oil to oil pull with outstanding results for about 2 years. I recently moved to the US and couldn't find sunflower oil at the grocery store so I tried triple refined Peanut oil instead. I read one of the posts that said that peanut oil was dangerous since mold often grows on the peanuts that are used to make the oil. Is this true? I must say the quality of the peanut oil is really good and it has a clean, neutral taste.

Also, I quit oil pulling for about 3 months last year and all the symptoms of my ailments like stiff joints, yellow stained teets etc, returned 10 times more intense than before. So, just remember, once you start oil pulling, there is no turning back!

Kind regards,
Maria"

[YEA]  07/02/2011: Hopeso from England writes: "Hi - Tried oil pulling a while ago but didn't have much wrong with me so only found the benefit of whiter teeth. A couple of years ago I went to my dentist about a bad taste in my mouth - he said he couldn't see anything wrong but gargle with mouth wash. I did try this but it didn't really work. Since then my tooth is very sensitive to cold and hot things and I have been restricted to eating on one side of mouth. Its been like this for well over a year and I have been thinking I must go to the dentist (but didn't really want to).

Anyhow bought some Safflower oil the other day and started to oil pull in the mornings. I have only done this for 3 days and I can now eat on both sides and don't have a problem with hot or cold. I normally don't believe people when they say "Oh yes it was amazing" but here I go "Yes it was amazing, and I'm telling the truth". I'm so happy I don't have to go to the dentist. I think I'm always going to oil pull now. NB A few of my friends have been put off oil pulling because of the 20 mins - but if you keep busy instead of waiting for the 20 mins to be up you find it actually flies by. Hope this helps someone. Jules"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  01/25/2010: Lana from Clinton Township, Michigan, Usa writes: "Safflower Oil Pulling

For the past five days I have been swishing my mouth with 1 tablespoon of safflower oil, once a day, about 10 to 15 minutes, before going to bed. I believe this has started a detox for me as I am experiencing mild skin breakouts, lethargy, and mild depression. A naturopathic doctor once told me that detox is emotional as well as physical, and that people going thru detox may experience a bit of melancholy along with some physical symptoms before they feel better. My gums feel less sensitive now. I plan to switch to a different oil after this detox. I believe in oil pulling, and I plan to start with a different oil after this initial detox phase passes. Thank you!

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  06/21/2009: Dawn from Auburn Hills, Michigan writes: "I started oil pulling with Safflower oil last week. I started Safflower oil because that's what I had in the house. I use about a tablespoon in the morning first thing and swish for 20 minutes while I check email & clean up. Then I spit, brush with baking soda (I just dip my brush in, wet it and brush) and swish with equal parts peroxide and water, as usual.

I was already doing quite well quitting smoking but OP seems to have reduced my cravings and the orneriness attached to them. Further, I have found that I have fewer cravings for sweets and fatty food. McDs french fries and fish sandwich has been my guilty secret for a long time but I have passed up many opportunities for them in the past week. I have also been struggling to stop taking "seconds" for years. I haven't had that problem all week. Finally, I started my menses this morning and was surprised by it. I had not a single one of the usual symptoms associated with it.

On the negative side, while my teeth feel nice and clean in the morning, they seem to feel kind of gummy later in the day, which only leads me to brush extra, so no big deal unless I'm out with no access to a toothbrush, so I'm planning to start bringing apples with me. However, I also seem to be developing weird sores on my tongue. They are kind of like lumps under the skin that are tender and painful to the touch. I can't see anything when I look at it, but I can feel them. This concerns me a bit."

[YEA]  08/02/2008: Carol from Cocoa, FL writes: "First, I would like to thank the originator for this web-site. I have been oil pulling for about two months and I have an enormous burst of energy after oil pulling. Previously to oil pulling I was having a problem with my left arm. I had gone to the doctor to have it checked, I had a stress test, blood work etc, results were normal. (it felt like I had some type of pulling in my arm). I have not had any problems with it since oil pulling. My teeth are very white. I am also doing Weight Watchers along with my daily pulling I am losing weight when I started WW I was 247lbs, I am now at 237lbs I don't know yet if I can contribute this to oil pulling yet. I only use 1 tsp of safflower oil and swish for 15-20 every morning. Truly thankful for the energy it gives me. It makes me more active.(which was needed). Thank you. Carol"

[YEA]  02/18/2008: Catherine from Orlando, FL writes: "I used about 2 teaspoons of safflower oil and pulled for 20 minutes. My teeth are whiter. Two brown spots are almost gone. My gums are more irritated, which I see as a positive thing because they're healing. My head!! It started hurting so much about an hour after I finished. I had to take something and go to sleep. It still throbs a little and it has been 15 hours since I pulled. How long does that last? After a week? two weeks? I don't know if I can stand it. I am mainly trying this for my gums/teeth and also for arthritis and TMJ. Any feedback on arthritis and TMJ would be nice. The headache isn't worth it though if I have to endure it for very long. Thanks for the feed back."

I started oil pulling the very day I read about it, I have tried with extra virg. olive oil, sunflower, I didn't notice any real change after just one try. then I tried Safflower oil, did it in the morning just after brushing, then I felt sleepy, I decided to lay down on the couch, and slept for 3 hours; I didn't make a connection then until this morning I tried safflower oil again, same reaction. I slept so soundly, good thing I had the day off today. I'll try it again tonite, looking forward to a great night's sleep. I took 1TBSP for 20 mins. 02/04/2012: Leaann from Vincennes, In. writes: "I did my first oil pulling this morning. My hope is for it to help me joint pain. But I also woke up with a toothache and I am hoping this can be resolved as well. I used Sesame Oil. After finishing, I immediately am experiencing some nasal stuffiness and mild drainage. The taste wasn't bad. Once I spit it out the taste reminded me of peanut butter.

I plan to use other remedies posted here and will report back my results."

02/03/2012: Joy from Harrisburg, Pa writes: "Have been OP with sesame for about a week now. It was tough at first, as I have a strong reflex to swallow. If I couldnt make it the full 15 minutes, I did it for 10 minutes twice that day spaced out. So far I have noticed good and bad properties. The good ones are that I don't seem to be getting the regular corner of the mouth cold sores I used to get on a very regular basis. I notice the stains on my teeth seem to be lessening. The bad is minor and is also attributed to being severely anemic and struggling with depression and unhealthy habits in general, however I am finding myself very tired A LOT.

Another thing to mention is that since the birth of my daughter 11 months ago I have had severe painful acne (and I have always been blessed with beautiful skin). I have started proactive recently, so it may be a combination of things (however I am more consistant with the oil pulling than I am with the proactive system), and I have noticed less large painful deep cystic type blemishes and an overall less red appearance to my face and neck.

I struggle with an addiction to cigarettes right now so I'm not sure how much the oil pulling will have a chance to work with such an addiction but I'm already noticing differences. Also reading about "health crisis" situations I don't feel really uneasy about that... I have been sick most of my life with any number of respiratory and throat issues so I rather welcome a full body purge!

I find that with OP if you just decide you are going to do it and stick with it, it gets easier. I try to distract myself with chores or email checking or read a good article about something that intrigues you... It starts to go faster than you realize!"

[YEA]  01/25/2012: Karen from Broomfield, Co, Usa writes: "I found this website and read about oil pulling. It was of interest to me because the last time I went for a dental cleaning the dentist suggested gum surgery for receeding gums. For the last few months (with breaks while travelling) I have swished organic, white, unrefined sesame oil in my mouth for less than one minute each evening and then spit it out. I know everyone says 5-10 minutes but that's not realistic for me (I will just avoid it) so I decided to do it for a minute or less after I brush and floss and while I am dressing for bed. Just had another dental cleaning today. Normal gums! The dentists didn't even want to measure the gums this time! This healed my gums with minimal time, little effort and little cost. AND to boot, it's helped me tremendously with my allergies. I know the die hard people will say 1 minute it too short but all I can say is that it's worked for me, big time!"

[YEA]  01/12/2012: Shannon from Desoto, Tx, Usa writes: "I've been oil pulling for about two weeks and am really pleased with the results. I began with coconut oil but found the texture and flavor to be off-putting. Once I switched to untoasted sesame oil, I found the process completely tolerable. I OP first thing in the morning for 20 minutes and have found the following results: My joints feel better (I have chronic knee and shoulder pain from degeneration), my teeth and gums feel like I've just been to the dentist for a cleaning, my skin is less dry and my muscles hurt less after re-starting to work out.

The best result is the healing of dermatitis. I have severe dermatitis in my ears. They continually itch from the outside all the way down into my ear canal. Not only is it uncomfortable, it's embarassing because of the constant flaking. After two weeks, I have minor itching externally with no flaking and no deep itch. It's as if my ears are healing from the inside out. I'm so thankful for this site and friends with great suggestions!"

06/25/2011: Oilpuller from Gardena, Ca writes: "I keep reading that you must wait four hours after eating and one hour after drinking to oil pull. My mouth and teeth were improved after oil pulling for ten minutes each morning for six months with sesame oil. For instance, a tooth that had been slightly loose is now fine and my dentist complimented me on my dental hygiene. But he still found problems under the gums and I want to oil pull twice a day to see if it causes further improvement.

Waiting four hours after eating is hard for me and I can't see why two hours wouldn't be enough. What harm would there be in that? Has anyone tried it?"

I am aware of the X hours before and after suggestion but decided not to follow based on my belief that any remedy that interferes with one's daily routine cannot be a long lasting remedy. I can see most of the benefits of o/p I gained. But I doubt anyone who separate their meals and o/p can tell you the difference in its effectiveness.

It is your choice, I think. I'd rather keep doing it everyday then skipping it for any reason."

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  06/09/2011: Traxxxi from San Jose, California, United States writes: "I recently started OPing every morning with Organic Sesame Oil and noticed immediate positive results: my skin softened and pores shrank dramatically (I actually got many compliments on my skin), my dry eye symptoms were completely gone after 15 years of suffering, my eczema started to disappear, my Chronic Fatigue lessened and I had more energy, and my chronic sinusitis started to clear up. I was truly amazed and in such relief!

After two weeks of OPing, some of my symptoms have returned and even worsened. My skin looks tired and dry again, my eyes are extremely dry, bloodshot and in pain, My fatigue is worse then ever and I have barely enough energy to get out of bed, my eczema is back, and suddenly I'm having dandruff. Luckily my sinusitis has not returned. What is happening??? I was so hopeful that I had finally found a cure for the ailments that had plagued me for so long. I have a myriad of other health issues, in addition to the aforementioned, that I was also hoping would eventually improve from OPing. I can't help but feel frustrated and heartbroken. Any insight and/or suggestions will be so much appreciated. Thank you!"

But, it sounds like you have quite a few things going on there and would benefit from implementing more than just OPing. I would highly recommend switching your oil to Extra Virgin Coconut Oil for OPing, perhaps even taking a tablespoon or two a day for good measure. Also, read the section on Apple Cider Vinegar and its amazing effects. The last thing, and probably the most important, would be to take a good hard look at what kind of food you're consuming -- cut out all breads and sugars for a while. Have you done the Candida test where you spit into a glass of water and see if your spit is stringy? If it is, you need to go to the Candida section and plan your attack for defeating it. Hope this helps.

Jeff"
