[YEA] 09/16/2006: Lana from Hamilton, OH writes: "I started using to rinse my hair after washing and cream rinse. I have long hair from my crown about 31 inches. I use 1 cup of apple cider vinegar ever time I wash my hair, which is 3 times a week. The smell only stays for about 30 min, but my hair is so much healthier and has also grown. If I miss the vinegar rinse my hair feels flat and unclean. It also helps with the split ends. White vinegar is not to be used on your hair as it will strip the naturel oils"

[YEA] Barbara from Phoenix, Arizona writes: "I have been using vinegar once a week for years and years as a hair rinse. It gives my hair the perfect pH balance. As a result, at the ripe old age of 63, I have very thick, healthy, shiny hair. When I tell people about it, they think I am crazy, but it works!! I remember when I was very young, my mom would wash my hair in rain water and then rinse it with vinegar.
I use approximately 1/2 to 3/4 cup vinegar diluted with about 1/2 cup water. I shampoo and rinse first then pour on the vinegar - let it sit about a minute and then rinse out the vinegar and then shampoo again and rinse very well so there is no odor of vinegar. This was even recommended to me by a beautician once, and I hadn't even told her that I was already doing it!! The vinegar also removes all the old shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, etc. build-up in the hair."

[MAYBE] Sharon from Los Angeles, CA writes: "The Apple Cider Vinegar as a conditioner was great! However, my hair smelled quite obviously of vinegar until the next time I washed it even though I rinsed it well with shampoo! I will try it again, but perhaps with less vinegar."

[YEA] Dora from Ottawa, Ontario writes: "The apple cider vinegar worked very well. The only things to be watchful for: is not getting it in your eyes (becomes irritated for a couple of seconds) and being mindful in the shower where it becomes slippery on the floor. The best way I believe to use the ACV is over a sink to wash your hair, not the shower."

[YEA] Sue from Kingston Area,Ontario writes: "After being guided to use apple cider vinegar to rid Candida.. I decided to cleanse my scalp of any yeast buildup. Wow...my hair is so curly, shinny and very healthy. I will use every second week as a cleanser. Try diluting 1/2 cup of ACV with 1/2 cup warm water-pour onto scalp, then shampoo & conditioner. I have even tried it on a cotton ball to exfolliate my skin--results were "glowing skin". Buy the "unpasturized"apple cider vinegar-it is live and therefore ACTIVE.Try it - IT does work."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR AND BAKING SODA
[YEA] 06/04/2007: Ed (edsads000@yahoo.com) from Wenatchee WA, USA writes: "I have been using a mixture of ACV, Baking Soda, and Water for a conditioner for about a week and a half. I use about 1/4 tablespoon of BS and ACV till the bubbling stops. then I add just enough water to complete filling a small cup About 3 inches high, 1/2 full. I apply just enough of this to soak my hair ( I do this in the shower ) and rub it in with my fingertips for about 1 minute, then I rinse it out. I have had mildly itchy scalp and hair that does not obey. Now I have no more tangles, my hair does what I want, and the itchy scalp is better. It's not gone yet, but is getting less itchy. Using this small amount of ACV does not leave any smell to my hair either. Thank you so much for this site. Ed"

BEEF BONES AND OLIVE OIL, CARROT JUICE
[YEA] 04/15/2008: Doris from Santa Ana, USA writes: "re: Lustrous thick healthy hair.. Through my younger years in professional career, many were spent car-pooling. The Spanish women I knew all had lustrous spectacularly thick raven hair. Then, marrying, my own Spanish-American Indian origin mother-in-law also did. She said 'well of course all natives of her vicinity, New Mexico and that nearby So Amer region, boiled their cattle's beef bones till the bones were softened, and the water was marrow filled. They'd add a bit spoon or two of home pressed olive oil and use it as a hair treatment, as we do in salons today. What a difference in my own hair in those years. Also, rubbing cold pressed carrot juice, for the vitamin A, fully restored a male friend's hair from total baldness. Took one year, with substantial overall body health occurring, freckles disappearing, muscle and skin tone restoring, then year 2, a baby fine regrowth of skull hair, then by year 3, totally restored youth-level full head of hair."

[YEA] 12/03/2007: Rhonda from Seattle, WA writes: "I learned about borax on curezone for itchy painful scalp and decided to try it. Someone else on this site has mentioned how nice her hair is as a result of using the borax. I have NEVER used a hair product- a shampoo or a conditioner that has equalled the lustruous results I have achieved with borax. My hair was dry and straw like now it feels soft and silky and very manageable. The rats nest is gone! I can now comb and brush my hair again without fear of tearing my hair out. If for no other reason, I think everyone should abondon their shampoo and start using borax to wash the hair. As for my scalp? I was pretty desperate the day I tried the borax. My scalp was very sore, there was an inflamed (swollen) ridge on my part and there were tiny bumps like zits forming. I have a theory that hair pullers are reacting to whatever it is that causes these symptoms I experience. I started messing with my hair when I started experiencing all of the above. anyway. after using the borax, pain and itching subsided. bumps scabbed over that same day. soooo gentle. Have you noticed that if you get it in your eyes, it does not burn? I remember when I was a kid, I had some sort of eye infection so I went to the doc and he said I had pink eye and prescribed boric acid ointment. so of course it would be gentle to the eye. I am anxious to try it internally for some of the other issues I have read here on the site.(arthritis, tmj, fibromyalgia)."

[YEA] 08/12/2007: Jackie from Grand Rapids, Minn. writes: "Hi, i'm using many of Ted's wonderful remedies. The latest is borax for a shampoo. I was scared at first, thought my hair would be a matted, tangled, dried out mess. Well it works better than any shampoo i've tried, and my stick straight thin hair has new thickness and body. So much so, that i was able to get a chin length haircut with bangs which i didn't dare do before. I don't know if i'm right but i use 2 tbsp borax to 2 qts. warm water and pour it over my head about 3 times then massage my scalp then rinse. i almost forgot to mention i don't need a conditioner or detangling rinse. This makes me really happy because i'm trying to reduce or eliminate chemicals on my skin and body.I use borax water to dampen my hair before a hairset too. I have very light gray hair and i'm trying blackstrap molasses everyday to see if i can get some darker hair back. several people who don't know i'm doing this have said my hair looks darker gray, it definetly is darkening at the hairline on the sides and on the nckline after a short time, so i'm hopeful, but just to be able to have body and thickness to my hair is just thrilling no matter what color it is. Thanks so many times for all this information.jackie"

BORAX, BAKING SODA, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
[YEA] 05/24/2008: L from South Portland, Maine writes: "I put two glass jars in my shower. One filled with a mix of borax and baking soda. (More borax for dry hair...more baking soda for greasy... half and half for normal.) I get in the shower and sprinkle approximately 2 tablespoons in the empty jar and fill it with water and shake it around. I then dump that over my head and rinse it out.
I keep a bottle of ACV in the shower as well and pour approximately 1/4 of cup into the now empty jar add water pour over my head and rinse. The drying process looks a little funky but my hair is clean, shiny, flake free and dare I say fabulous. I'm actually a little dismayed that I have spent so much money over the years on toxic products that didnt make my hair look half as good. I switched to white vinegar for a week once and my hair became much blonder. The ACV brings out more amber highlights. Good Luck"

[YEA] 01/22/2006: Becky from Port Townsend, WA writes: "I used the acv and it works but I have a hint for people with winter scalp (flaky tight scalp). Steep 2 bags of chamomile tea in 2 cups warm water for 10 minutes. Add a dash of lemon juice and 15 drops of calendula (marigold) extract then pour onto scalp and let sit for 10 minutes and shampoo and condition as normal. I have done this 2x a week wince winter set in and it is perfect. No more flaking or redness."

[YEA] 07/17/2008: Molly (frankenme78 /@/yahoo.com) from Austin, Tx writes: "I use cocunut oil for many ailments, however I just tried it this week as a mask for my very dry hair, I dyed, bleach, and ironed my hair for years, so its incredibly coarse and frizzy all the time, I've tried EVERYTHING available in stores and salons, with little to no results. So I scooped out a few handfuls of coconut oil (enough to cover all my hair) and I work it in really well (as if your coating all your hair with gel) then I put a shower cap on, and in about 20 minutes I showered as normal, and my hair in SO FREAKING SMOOTH, and shiny and soft, I still iron my hair, but this is the first time I never had to use some kind of smoothing gel, its amazing, I'm going to do it all the time now!!!"

[YEA] 04/22/2008: Sharon from Pace, Florida writes: "I wrote in the past that I used coconut oil to treat my cats Rhino Virus and ringworm. For myself I take 1 Tbs orally. I have used in on my hair before I wash it. My hair is so soft afterwards. It's great for dandruff. As for my cats I treated the ringworm topically and the rhino virus was treated orally. My cats seem to really like it. They get about a tsp orally. They like it liquid so I run it under hot water. My dogs get about 1 Tbs and they love it too. It has helped Yeast on the skin and allergies. I work as a groomer so I try it for several skin problems."

And then I wrap my hair with a scarf. It smells so yummy."

[YEA] 02/08/2008: Mary from Chicago, IL writes: "Of all of the remedies/cures I've tried on this board my ALL-TIME favorite is Coconut Oil, prefer Barlean's but also have used Garden of Life's version. Why? Because ever since I started using it on my hair it's become silky smooth without being greasy. It has made my once dry, unruly curly hair extremely manageable. Nothing has worked on my hair like coconut oil and I've tried every brand of conditioner known to man to make my hair manageable. Also, it's a great moisturizer on your face, especially if you live in a harsh climate like I do in the Midwest. I use it in the morning and at night. Also, I use it on my legs. It has reduced the dermatitis and itching I get in the winter. So definitely go to the health food store and buy this product, it's definitely worth it!"

[YEA] 09/03/2007: Danielle from Atlanta, Georgia writes: "I am a black woman with fine hair. I have never been able to have the shiny beautiful hair I wanted so I wore weaves and braids for many years because my "real" hair was sooo hard to take care of and it always seemed to break off. recently I took my weave out, and I was worried because my hair is down my back and I thought it would break off, but I discovered VCO and have been using it, my hair that was once dull is now shiny, it doesn't tangle, it doesn't come out in huge amounts when I comb it like it did before, and the ends look wonderful. I don't have to use any of the expensive products for my hair anymore. I only need the shampoos. It works great and even protects your hair from heat of blowdrying and flat ironing. I will use this for the rest of my life and I am going to start using it on my body and eventually eating it to see what it does for my entire body. It smells good, and it is really lightweight on your hair. I love it!!!! You will too."

[YEA] 07/04/2007: Jill from MH, USA writes: "I have been also been heating up virgin coconut oil and putting it in my hair as a hot oil treatment. It washes out easily. Leaves my hair shiny and I don't use expensive hair products anymore. Since doing this my hair has stopped coming out in huge amounts anymore. I have a low thyroid and have suffered hair loss. But now my hair is coming back thicker and Im not losing it anymore at a high rate. Plus its cured me of a dry itchy flaky scalp also."

[YEA] 02/01/2006: Cynthia from Los Angeles, CA writes: "I bought coconut oil originally for my hair, which makes the hair very shiny and silky. I used the end of a paint brush to apply it, worked it through, and left it on overnight with a wrap over it. Wash thoroughly the next morning, but do not use conditioner or any other additive, you won't need to for a few days, hair looks and feels great. I couldn't figure out how to "eat" it, which didn't seem desireable, but I added it to tea (black currant) and it was quite good, not very greasy, goes down very nicely!"

DISHWASHING LIQUID FOR HAIR GROWTH IN TODDLER
[YEA] 12/13/2007: Candy from Riverdale, New York writes: "I am a big fan of Earth Clinic and I not only use it to my benefit, but I also recommend remedies to friends and loved ones. My cousins lamented that her 2 yr. old daughter's hair was not growing as fast as it ought to. So, low and behold, I looked for a remedy which would suit a 2yr old. My cousin started using Original Dawn dishwashing liquid and saw immediate results. It's been over 2 months and there hasn't been any negative side effects. My sister cut her hair early this year and she expect that it would grow back quickly, but to her surprise, no. I spoke about the results my cousin noticed with her daughter and my sister decided to try Dawn. Well, it has been almost 2 weeks since she started and guess what, her hair is growing at an unexpectedly speedy rate."
