TED'S REMEDIES

09/21/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "Secrets of Okinawa Long Life or How to be 101

Now for less serious discussion, there are many websites which cover this in great detail on their Okinawa long life to be 100 and over. I will discuss the important aspects here not discussed anywhere else. The Okinawa secret to longevity is the soybean and seaweed. It's this combination that gives it magic. Now a lot of disinformation surrounds soybeans, by the cow milk company (once had a summer job, required by my college so I had to accept any job that relates to science, one of the job was to put out disinformation on soy, so I know). The soy's secret is how it is prepared, basically everyone prepares it right, it doesn't matter, as long as heat is involved in the process since it destroys the enzyme inhibitors. In fact no one can consume it raw. As the major criteria, right miso fermented has advantage, but Japanese do consume soy milk and do get the benefit too. The research findings is that the Okinawan also had high DHEA, twice that for Westerners, but unknown to the scientist, the high DHEA is from the soy, yes, soy raises your hormones by about twice that of normal people, that they know is responsible for their long life. The other fact is that, it reduces nearly all kinds of cancer across the board, in particular is antineogenesis, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, prostate cancer, uterus cancer, and when combined with iodine we covered nearly all cancer there is. The bioavailable form is seaweed which protects the negative aspects of soy, which is in people deficient with iodine, soy consumption produces goiter, but when added with iodine or seaweed, it doesn't making a complete meal of longevity possible with DHEA levels to boot. The soy protects against UV damage, COPD, Cholesterol, LDL lowering, HDL good cholesterol, osteoporosis, triglycerides, etc. What soy protein is unique over Whey protein is it has a lot more glutamine, when combined with lysine and others it makes a more effective protein supplements. It is in fact superior then whey in a couple of things (which is not to say whey is bad), in raising DHEA. Bodybuilders exercises, which actually lower DHEA. The anticancer compound found in soy protein is the isoflavones which are genistein and daidzein, being the most well known. Some people might argue that thyroid can be a problem, but that is prevented since seaweed, a Japanese addition prevented that, which they consume almost every day with the soy. There is one thing that is also not mentioned in Okinawa, their water supply is rich in Magnesium, while the rest of us, we have calcium. Magnesium is protective of heart attacks which is found in their water supply. There you have it, free from thyroid issues, DHEA is high, osteoporosis non existent and cancer across the board down with just 3 things, soy, seaweed, and magnesium! Now someone argued that it might be their genes, well if you look at the program How to Live to 101, the Okinawa was displaced and put in Hawaii, and it was found out that their cancer got worse then the native population once adopting their diets, so it couldn't be their genes. Some one argued that they have active lifestyle will if their bone condition is great, most would have active lifestyle, and there is the other one, purpose in life, of which they could also be right, but you need to have a right kind of diets.

Do you eat a meal with tofu & have a glass of soy milk each day? Do you make a miso soup {with lots of wakame, tofu & miso paste} & sprinkle hijiki instead of salt in dishes? & for those of us who don't live near the ocean we just got to use magnesium oil on the skin or drink it in water regularly? Amazing connection you found between the soy and iodine, I hope it can get explored you, Could I just take 1-2 soy protein meal replacement shakes reguarly and add a 2 drops of lugols each day? I appreciate the info here but am looking for some specific details if possible. I was once drinking 3 glasses of soy milk a day and eating soy burgers and soy hotdogs & my Japanese MIL told me she eats soy and seaweed but not as much as I was and certainly not in processed imitation dogs and burgers. I wasn't taking any Lugol's though. Ted did you hear about that 100 year old vegan?

The interesting thing is many centenarians I studied were meat eaters but they ate it more as a flavoring. I think we were meant to eat a little local, grass fed, organic meat. Look at countries that all high vegan or vegetarians like East Indians, they live to about 64. No. 139 on the Wikipedia List of countries by life expectancy. Maybe its the antinutrients in the beans and grains, you can soak and cook them but it won't get rid of all of them. I know India has other issues but just look at where most centenarians come from, the vegetarian exceptions are the Seventh Day Adventists in Loma Linda, CA but the rest do eat some meat, even the Okinawans eat pork but probably not like Westerners eat large slabs of meat and little vegetables. I would love to live where the centenarians live like Okinawa but even visiting I couldn't tolerate that heat and humidity index! Many people also don't realize they get that Island fever thing too. Expensive too. I guess the iodine and soy are protecting the Okinawans from the Japanese radiation? It would also be nice to hear from any Okinawans here, how exactly do you incorporate soy and seaweed in your diet (how? what kinds? how often? amouunts?) and same with how often you dip in the ocean for the magnesium. Domo arigato gozaimasu!"
09/28/2011: Innerspirit from Anonymous replies: "Ted I was reading online about traditional Okinawan diets, I don't know if this high carb diet is entirely accurate though. "This is incredible. Almost 70% of the calories in the traditional Okinawan diet came from sweet potatoes"
"Rice and beans also played prominent roles at mealtimes."

Traditional 1950 Okinawan diet - 849 grams sweet potatoes, 154 grams unpolished rice {likely with bran & germ - 1 cup a day}, 114 grams other vegetables, 71 grams legumes (including soy), the rest are small amounts including fish 15 grams {one three ounce serving a week}3 grams meat {1 smaller serving a month} & 1 gram seaweed (which is still a lot comapred to Western people)- 6% of calories from fat {less than 1 tsp oil a day} & low sugar. "Theirs was a very low-fat, low-protein, just about vegan, diet with very few processed grains and oils. "

09/28/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "Thanks Ted I've often thought about the longlevity of the Okinawans. It's interesting that you mention Cows milk.. In China a few years ago breast cancer was called rich "womans disease" as they were the only ones who could afford cows milk and they seemed to be the ones getting the disease. I found out that cows during the second world war gave half the milk that they do today.. This selective breeding for profit, must have pushed the Cow to produce far more milk than nature intended , which must have raised the cows hormone level. Then if so the milk must be loaded with some nasties?"
09/28/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "After everything I have read I believe that for us, in the Western world, the best diet is low on carbs and high in fats. I am not going to say that other populations shouldn't have completely different diets...... But I think that no one knows anymore what is good and what is bad. Whenever I hear about the Mediterranean diet it seems to me that there are a lot of misunderstandings about what they eat and that is maybe the case with a lot of other diets. People have many times a false idea about what others eat and that becomes the truth after being repeated over and over again! I come from Portugal and I often come across a lot of misunderstandings about our way of eating. People really believe that we are healthy and as a rule have little weight problems beca

use we live in fish and vegetables. True... Tourist restaurants often offer a lot of fish but that is not really how we eat in everyday life also because fish is awfully expensive! People do eat a lot of meat but true as well that they eat a lot of potatos and most of all rice. When I was growing up eating vegetables with every meal wasn't really the norm. And funny enough they do eat a lot of very sweet desserts. Eating fat was never a problem!"

09/28/2011: Song Of Atoms from Ny replies: "If MSG is so unhealthy why are Japanese so healthy? Is their's processed differently? Do they eat other things that neutralize it? I went to an Asian food store with many products imported from Japan and many things had MSG in it from soy sauce to plum pickles."
09/28/2011: Eva from A'dam, Netherlands replies: "Old Okinawans attribute their long life to many things.

What often is said about Okinawans is that their diet contains less calories; when they eat they do not fill up their stomach for 100%, but finish with eating when they are still hungry. During WWII a lot of sicknesses such as high BP in Europe "disappeared" because people could not afford to eat as much and often needed to use substitutes e.g. nettle instead of spinach etc.

Older Okinawans say that they care about others in the community, they have low stress levels, they are physically active, drink a mixture of garlic, honey, turmeric, aloe before going to bed, use a lot of yellow and green veggies just to mention a few, so any of these factors could contribute to their long lives (or maybe a combination of these, or something else not mentioned by anybody yet).

In the Mediterranian people had a different diet than in Japan, but they were probably also poor and could not eat as many calories, and were more active physically than they currently are. The problem with dealing with people of old age is that why they became so old might depend on their diet and life style when they were young which might not as much be reflected in their current diet or life style. Ask somebody who is old what their staple food was and how much they ate when they were young and you might be surprized....

Interestingly, the younger generation in Okinawa is overweight, has a westernized diet and life style and has higher sickness rates and lower life expectancy than people elsewhere in Japan. I also wonder if the soy they eat is genetically modified nowadays...."

09/28/2011: Rob from Manhattan, Ny replies: "Okinawans drink large amounts of turmeric tea, which in part prevents some of the the damage due to higher glycemic foods. It is good to hear Ted giving soya a thumbs up...

I interesting points that Bernando LaPallo (claims to be 110) makes ...

The bulk of his diet is fresh vegetables, fruits, and fish. Stays active both socially and physically. Eats light meals and nothing after 7pm..

All this contributes to keeping blood sugar and damaging stress low..

09/28/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "Don't forget the root vegetable that they consume that's very high in halyuronic acid. It was claimed in the Doco. That this was the main cause of their longevity. I forget why it was called."
09/28/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "I know that according to Dr. Russell Blaylock, who studied MSG (& has a great book), cod liver oil is a glutamate blocker as is Turmeric and magnesium among other things. The Japanese eat a lot of fish, maybe that is what is protecting them. They also would have a high idoine level in their body because of their seaweed consumption (don't know if that is connected or not)."
09/28/2011: Egbert from Netherlands replies: "The documented top 10 longest living humans ever hail from the Japan (3 of the 10) and USA (4 of the 10). Interesting note "In fact, the US has more supercentenarians than any country in the world. They are not considered a land of longevity though due to the number per capita. " And the top slot of the 10 went to a 121 year old French woman Jeanne Calment. Calment was physically active, great health, a smoker, a wine drinker, a chocolate eater, and she attributed her longevity to olive oil on her skin and in her cooking. Monaco is an overlooked place: average life expectancy is 89 and owmen typcially live to 95. Food is very expensive there and most people have their own chefs. The food is fit for a king (or shall I say Prince Albert). It seems the smaller places that aren't governed so much but big intrusive government agencies seem to get real food and not Frankenfood. But then again, the average income is over $200,000 (US Dollars).

A Japanese cardiologist and geriatrician named Dr. Makoto Suzuki moved from Japan to Okinawa and did the Okinawan study and released it putting it on the map globally. One thing you folks have to realize is there are the most centenarians in Okinawa per capita but Dr. Suzuki observed they were mostly bedridden. "There are now around 700 centenarians in Okinawa, but most of them are bedridden. The number of super healthy very old people has not gone up much from the 26 we counted at the beginning of our study. This is an important point, as it means that although advances in medical technology can keep us alive, those extra years are not always active and productive. Our goal needs to be not just longevity but healthy longevity"

It's also noted that the youth are living a more Westernized diet nowaday. ""Okinawa's ranking for male life expectancy has dropped from number one to number 26 in Japan, but the life expectancy of Okinawan females remains at the top. If the health of the island's women also decreases, Okinawa will no longer be able to claim itself as the centre of longevity."

I believe Monaco will be one of the top places. I don't think they are interested in killing off their small rich population since it is a small place and the people living their support the economy though there is no tax. Many don't even live there year round and belong to the upper class. Around the world in bigger lands the governments are also heavy and is in bed wiith food and medical companies and you get mass produced and mass consumed food. I'm sure they would love to thin out the lower and middle class masses in time. Second place with a large number of long living people per capita is a mountainous region in Sardinia. Most Westerners prefer the coasts. If I had the money, I'd live in or near Monaco. The French Riviera is gorgeous."

I am told on a regular basis how great my skin is as well as having the body of a 30 y.o. I got lucky with genetics but it also helps to look after ones' self... Which I didn't always do. I smoked for the better part of 38 YEARS and ate alot of processed foods.

I have detoxed with foot pads, and lemon, sage and parsley teas. I drink ACV daily in a fruit smoothie with Willards water, 1/8 cup freshly ground flaxseed, 1/2 tsp. Dried kelp powder, 2 tbsp blackstrap molasses every other day, and use only cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil for salads. I follow the blood type diet for B's as it really works well. I started using a top quality Krill oil in May this year mainly for my cholesterol (high due to menopause), and within 2 weeks I noticed my frown lines and mouth pucker lines/wrinkles were almost gone!!! My neck was looking lined and saggy and looks way better, and my skin is quite soft and no longer dry. Due to the ACV I have the youthful glow as well. I use epsom salts with bathing and magnesium chloride as a spray and a drink. I also take a 50 mg Ubiquinol daily, use vit. C chrystals mixed with baking soda (thankyou Ted), nutritional flake yeast for the B's and minerals, undenatured whey protein and bio-identical hormones. I no longer have any aches and pains and I sleep alot better and am calmer/happier. I eat mostly whole unprocessed foods now and have very little coffee. I do a lot of research and adjust things all the time.

This site has been very helpful with all its suggestions and remedies... Its just a matter of finding what works the best for your health plan. I don't neccessarily want to live to 120 but I want to be pain free, coherent and mobile as long as I am sunnyside up."

11/07/2011: Kelly from Cape Coral, Florida replies: "All the soy products are GMO.... 99.9% of the soy on the planet is GMO. So however good a cure this USED TO BE, it is not anymore. Stay Away from soy and tofu and soy milk etc, unless you want morgellons and all the other things that come from GMO."

07/30/2009: EmeraldHope from Buffalo, NY replies: "Hi Ms. Sweetie, To correct the constipation problem I add a small packet of powdered fiber. It totally disolves and has no taste. Just make sure to drink plenty of water. I loved the recommendation someone on this board gave about using a large bottle of water, adding the ACV, any flavoring (I use a very small amount of juice) and now 1 packet of fiber. According to the fiber directions you can use up to three packets a day but I find there is no need to use that much. Some of the new fiber products are flavored and a friend told me it's just enough flavor. Just sip from the bottle all day long. I also put ACV in V8 juice, once a day. LOVE IT!!! BP came way down, skin is healing and I have amazing energy. Thanks everyone for your help on this board!"

[YEA]  03/11/2009: Kathy Thill from Santa Cruz, CA writes: "Three older people told me at different times about ACV drink for make the urine and body more alkaline, which promotes health and as a healthy remedy daily. Another older woman in her 80's also used this drink. They all lived a long and full lifes.

A mix of equal parts: honey (raw, unfiltered best except for babies), organic apple cider vinegar, and filtered water. Several TBL's can be added to a 8 oz. glass of water and taken twice a day or more often for illness or UTI. The honey makes the ACV much more palatable and adds needed nutrients and electolytes. This is also good for upset stomachs or nausea, sipping small sips as able."

[YEA]  01/04/2009: Tess from Palm Beach, FL writes: "After 2 weeks of being a blob during the holidays: eating more than usual, not drinking my 2 apple cider vinegar & water glasses every day, and not exercising my usual 1 hour at the gym(hard cardio, light weights, core training), I can tell I have aged!! I can't believe it only took 2 weeks! The first week was okay, but I started to look more and more out of shape and yucky by the 2nd week. I did get out and walk every day, but it wasn't enough cardio I guess. My husband kept asking me if I was about to get my period because I looked so tired! My skin lost its healthy glow and the lines in my face deepened. I guess this was a good thing -- it tells me that the combination of exercise and apple cider vinegar helps me look a lot younger than my 45 years. If I had to give one up it would be the apple cider vinegar, but in conjunction with lots of exercise, it really packs a powerful anti aging punch. I am going to work on more raw food in my diet in 2009 and see what kind of a difference that makes.

I wish you all a very Happy New Year!"

03/06/2009: Karen from Lawrenceburg, Ky replies: "Just a reply for Tess in Florida: You said if you had to give up one exercise or ACV it'd be ACV. Just wanted to know why. I would personally think that the ACV would give your body the power to move toxins through your body when you are exercising, making really an important aid to the exercise. Also, without the nutrients from the ACV (so powerful) it'd be much harder to exercise. In general the ACV just seems to give you the benefits that seems like is coming from the exercise (which I am not knocking the exercise at all, it does major healing). I just think the ACV really propels the exercise as far as healing benefits are concerned. Give me your take! Thank you, Karen apache_106@hotmail.com Feel free to contact me."

I was home visiting my folks for Thanksgiving and was eating lots of bread, butter and sugary foods.. items I try not to eat to much of. Knowing that I gain a pound for every slice of bread I eat, I made sure to drink 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a small glass of water every night after eating like a piggy. Sooooo nasty tasting!! But guess what, I didn't gain a pound!

Yesterday back in town I saw a friend, a personal trainer who I had talked into taking apple cider vinegar for his high blood pressure (young guy, but hpb runs in his family) 2 weeks ago. He looked great before, but now -- WOO WOO!!! He had this amazing glow that would make your head turn. I made a comment to him about it and he said that last Tuesday he woke up one morning after taking 2 glasses of 2 teaspoons of acv in water the night before and felt ready to take on the world. Two different clients commented to him that he was glowing and what was going on with him, was it love? He said No! Apple Cider Vinegar!

Like I said, this remedy ROCKS!!!"

The vinegar removes the excess salt from your body when you sleep, so no bags under the eyes when you wake up in the morning. I drink two tablespoons of acv with 16 ounces of water, two hours before bed, it removes toxins in your body while sleeping, so no swelling in the joints, no bags under the eyes from excess salt. For years I have had joint pains on and off (sickle cell trait), and last sunday had a flare up. During the night it was difficult for me to move in the bed because of my left knee. In the morning when I got up to get ready for church, I had about 3 tablespoons of ACV in a glass of water, just before I went and took a shower. By the time I left for church my knee pain was gone. This stuff is great. My dad was also complaining of back and knee pains and I told him to start drinking ACV daily- he no longers complains. I have been using ACV and 3% percent peroxide (50/50)with occasional tea tree oil for a fungus of my big toe nail- it is clearing up nicely. Thanks earth clinic."

My mother always told a story of how in the thirties, my uncle was a little boy and desperately ill. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong or how to help him and finally told my grandparents to prepare for the worst. Apparently all he kept asking for was vinegar (my mom never specified if it was ACV) and when things looked really bleak, they decided to let him have it since he never stopped asking for it and since there was no real reason to deny him, however bizarre it seemed to give it to him. He apparently struggled to drink it, but got through a whole bottle in a few hours despite his weakness. The fever suddenly broke and he fully recovered, and to this day no one in my family really understood how. Now I'm getting a clue as to why! So, I thought I would try the honey/water/AVC drink three times a day- today is day 5 and while I didn't see any real weight loss until today, today my jeans are suddenly loose! Also been using it as a toner and guess what! No trip to the dermo like I planned because my pores are getting smaller on their own! Depression doing a lot better too - though the jury is still out on that since today I was a bit down after a few up days - will check back in and let everyone know- but WOW! I'm amazed! My little uncle was really on to something, clearly!"

[YEA]  11/06/2006: James from Pemberton, New Jersey writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar has cured: varicose veins, weight lose, tendonitis, wrinkles. In April of 2005, I came across a booklet for ACV, at the time I was 50 years old I played sports in high school, a construction worker for 20 years and a mover for the last 15, so I have done a number on my body over the years. My daughter convinced me to start taking ACV... I have taken it everyday since! The health benefits have been many. The first thing I noticed was my hair and nail growth, doesn't seem like much but my hair was white and had no color, but was growing back in blonde! I thought that was amazing! Over all the years of abuse on my feet and ankles I had purple feet from the varicose veins, it really was a severe case, after two months of use my feet started to look clearer to me, but I wasn't sure so I started taking pictures....I now have NO varicose veins on my feet, legs or anything. In April of 2005 I was a size 38 pants, today I am a 32 pants. I have not done any extra exercise to achieve this, It simply melted the pounds away (I also have a six pack again). The ACV has given me a facelift, I do NOT look like I am 51! My wrinkles around my eyes have literally disappeared. My skin is tighter, firmer every where. I feel like a new man. Over the years while abusing my body in my everyday life (working) I developed new and painful body movements, aches where I never had before and eventually the Doc diagnosed me with tendonitis (really painful) in both of my shoulders, being a mover this isn't good for business, it really started hurting my paycheck (then I started the ACV). I really had not realized I stopped taking the naproxen the Dr. had prescribed until I went to see him for my physical. He asked me if I needed a new script, that's when I realized I used to live on those pills everyday and hadn't needed them once since I started taking the ACV, so I told the Dr. about the ACV he was awed, seeing the results for himself he decided to start taking it, in fact my Barber, Boss, Coworkers, Kids, Brothers and sister all now take it with health benefits of there own. I tell you I LOVE ACV it has changed my life and made me a new healthier man. I actually believe I have a long healthy life ahead. The recipe I use everyday is: 2 table spoons of ACV and 1 Tablespoon of honey. Add water to taste. I do this two times a day, everyday. Good luck to all in your journey to a healthier you!"

Now I have been on it for about 2 weeks now (morning and nite) and havent seen any results , still have this pain in my right arm and havent seen my hair grow or my nails. This is what I want the most as my hair is very fine and never actually looks nice.

I used to use foligro long time ago, when you could buy the kit with the spray in it, today however you have to buy it seperately (money racket of course) and it costs about 100 or so a month. (cant afford it now) it did work it made my hair more curly and thickeer just a bit but after about 1 yr. Now of course its back to the same. So how long before this Acv remedy should start to work.

Thank you very much"
01/04/2009: Adr from Dayton, Ohio USA replies: "I have been reading a ton of websites for Homemade Shampoo Recipes. Every website or blog had recommended Rosemary. Research Rosemary online and find out all the benefits to it. I am switching from store bought shampoos to homemade baking soda and ACV and will be using the Rosemary oils for my hair. I have dark hair and natural body/curls so I am a little nervous. But I have read a couple of people who have the same type and have had no problem."
02/27/2009: Robert from Manhattan, New York replies: "yes, I've heard that Rosemary was as good as some of the topical drugs prescribed for hair loss.. also GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) in the form of black currant oil or evening primrose oil can help the skin & hair. Take 500 mg of either twice a day. but be patient. You won't see results for six to eight weeks."
[YEA]  09/25/2011: Kittie from Austin, Tx replies: "James, you are so right! Here's my experience: I am one year older than my sister and usually people believed we were twins. However, the past few years, people we meet have definitely pinpointed that I'm the older sister. Well, I started ACV in a glass of water about 3 years ago (1Tabsp mornings & before bed - 2 tabspoons give me a tummy ache). Wow! Like you, I have had so many positive changes that now people think I'm the younger sister. The most astounding thing I have noticed is a firming of my facial skin, particularily around my eyes. My body skin looks younger too & my cherokee cheek bones are coming back. PLUS, my joints don't hurt upon waking, sitting, or walking. AND, my hair is growing at an astonishing rate and my nails are stronger. I'm not seeing the weight fall off but I believe as a heavy woman with low muscle mass, if I concentrate on a lower carb diet & muscle toning, that will be accomplished too, though, I did lose an initial 5 lbs that I have not gained back. Because of my younger looks and energy, my sister and now my husband say they are willing to give ACV a try. Apple Cider Vinegar IS truly amazing!"

[YEA]  08/21/2008: Catlin from Austin, TX writes: "8/21/08 Aging thru Menopause

People always thought my father was our brother because he was blessed with great genetics, looking 10 - 15 years younger than his age and for many years I was the same.

However, when I turned 50, all sorts of aging began to happen. Menopause brought 30 lbs of extra weight, dry, flaky rashy skin, under-active thyroid and bloated stomach, itchy-smelly-flaky scalp, weak tearing nails, diabetes, tinitis, skin rashes, weeping eyes, joint pain, gingivitis with 2 deep gum pockets, hair falling out and not growing, losing hair and eyebrows, lethargy, moodiness, unexplained anger, dark eye circles, insomnia, night sweats, smelly body and breath and the list goes on... Needless to say people were calling me MAAAM and treating me like I was an unattractive old lady. I'm not so vain that I want to be noticed all the time but I certainly did not want to be ignored. Looking for natural skin cleansing remedies, I found your site. Whoa, what a FIND. I have stayed up late almost every night just reading all the testimonials. I have so far tried: VCO, Oil Pulling, and ACV. The results are fantastic: Silky skin, stronger teeth, hair, nails. No joint pain, lessening of tinnitis, no skin rashes, increased energy, body and breath smells great, blood suger stabilizing, losing goiter/thyroid neck, stomach is going down (my husband says), dark spots and eye circles gone, no mood swings, feel happier, lost 3 pounds, teeth whiter and firmer with pink gums (still working on the 2 pockets), scalp itch is receding and my skin looks AMAZINGLY young!--- all of this has happened within these first 10 days! I asked my husband to check out my skin because he knows I constantly battle face rashes and he said, "It looks wonderful with that makeup you have on". I was not wearing any! And guess what? I feel attractive, never mind what others feel, I'm not ignoring ME! 10 days I tell you!

Even as things are getting better, my eyes still weeped and were glazy and itched like the dickins, I didn't want to put anything on them except eye drops which only brought relief for about 30 minutes. So, today I applied ACV onto a cotton ball and lightly swiped my closed eyelids. OH MY GOD! Instant relief! I could even see better; things were not so fuzzy and the constant redness started disappearing; so, this is a work in progress.

Here's what I do internally: I oil-pull 10-15 minutes every morning and evening. I drink 2 TABLSP of ACV in a mug (8oz) of water morning and evening (thru a straw). Around noon, when my energy usually lags, I take 1 tablspoon of VCO. Interestingly, it cuts my appetite and I find myself eating out of habit, not hunger.

Here's what I do externally: After shower, I spray ACV and water onto my skin, let dry, then apply coconut oil lightly all over, then use a light cologne. I apply ACV with a cotton ball onto my face, let it dry, then dab and rub VCO with water on it. I wear no makeup except filling in my eyebrows (until they grow back), and apply lipstick on top of VCO. Each morning I wake up expecting to see a change-back and I don't. Thanks a whole bunch!"

EC: Great feedback, Catlin, thank you!

[YEA]  08/23/2008: Samantha from NY, NY replies: "Great to see that this remedy is also working for someone else. I have no ailments - only sickness is getting a cold every so often. I cannot really remember when I discovered this site but I guess it was around February. I have been consistently trying all kinds of things - which have worked for me. The ones that have obviously worked are: using baking soda as a deodorant and using VCO and ACV on my skin. Like Caitlin from Austin - I fist use ACV (on my face and all over my body) allow it to dry then apply VCO. I often do this combination at nights because in the morning I am in a hurry. However, I always use VCO. It is the only thing I use on my skin which is now baby soft. My face always looked young but as I am 41 - I figure maintainance is always good. Now the pores on my face are even tighter and still getting better.

I have been drinking ACV with baking soda (not consistently) and sometimes taking molasses. I do not eat processed foods, drink milk or eat soya. I have lost about 10llbs but I am not sure if I can totally attribute the weight loss to this drink. Anyway, I plan to try Earth Clinic's simplified recipe as I have to loose another 10llbs. Therefore, I will also start ingesting VCO. In general I feel great and I am really thankful to this webiste. I am addicted and visit it everyday - never know what I can learn or share with others."

EC: VCO = Virgin Coconut Oil

[YEA]  02/24/2011: Brijorg from New Haven, Ct replies: "To prevent colds and flus food grade hydrogen peroxide works best for me.

It should be diluted to 3.5% and used as ear drops periodically to disinfect ears (common cause of flu), used after cleaning mouth (and for cleaning with baking soda, aluminum free please), also in a nasal spray pump (for that itch in your throat, 1.5% to use as nasal spray-I usually use 3.5% for nose anyway but its kind of harsh- a few drops of tea tree oil in steaming water with towel over head works better for such a use though).

Kepping these three places (ears, nose and throat) disinfected should keep you cold and flu free."
12/02/2011: Shhaunna from Pinnacle, North Carolina replies: "Catlin, I was wondering what percentage of ACV and water you use to spray on you after you shower?"
12/23/2011: Caitlin from Austin, Tx replies: "It is once again winter in Austin and my 56 yr-old dry skin is WAY better now as I am avoiding the foods I am allergic to and using more natural, less severe products. Here is what I now do after 3 years of extensive experimentation.

For daily body washing: (1) I smear coconut or olive oil (1/4 cup) everywhere on my body and face (not eyes). I let it stay on for 3-5 minutes in a warm bathroom. I then scrub my body with a DRY, white washcloth & a damp cotton pad for my face. (I buy cheap white cloths in bulk so that I can throw them away as they get filled with dirt, oil, and dead skin);

(2) I make a simi-thick past of baking soda and water that I handily scrub on my body (face lightly) while standing in the tub. I usually add my favorite ORGANIC scent to this. I rinse this off with very luke-warm water and finish off with a COLD shower. I use an organic, natural deodorant with no odor. Skin Results: Smooth, clean, moist, no longer itching or smelling, invigorated!

(3) Weekly Hair Cleaning: I make a watery baking soda/water cup and poor onto my wet scalp and hair. I scrub my scalp for about 3-5 minutes and smooth thru my hair. I rinse & towel dry. Then, I lightly spray throughout the hair a bottle mix of: 1/4tsp coconut oil to 1/2 cup hot water & a spritz of organic cologne. I let my hair dry naturally. During the week I rinse only with cold water. Results: Very fast hair growth, moistness, no itchy or smelly scalp.

3) Progress of Teeth & Gums: I floss & oil pull every night before bed I still have 2 pockets left but they are not worse. I recently started putting MOM in the pockets before bed (as someone suggested) and they are lessening; gum is actually growing back! I lightly brush twice daily with baking soda and sea salt, then, I rinse my mouth with this mixture: 1 tsp. MOM & 1 tsp of Hydrogen peroxide, 2 drops mint oil. (If you have candida, it gets cheesy on the tongue and allows you to scrape it off) Results: Fresher Breath, stronger, brighter teeth and gums.

4) The Norm Daily Diet : 9oz Meat, 1 Fruit, Loads of cooked veggies and salads. WATER Only. I exercise 15 minutes M-Sat. I take 2tsps of ACV morning and bedtime. I eat 1 tsp. Of coconut oil & dash of cayenne pepper with breakfast or in tea. I take the anti-inflammatories Vit-C, A, Quercitin, Bromelin, Curcumin. I keep magnessium oil by my computer and occassionally spray it on my palms.

Results: I'm now within 50lbs of my goal weight. I feel sexy and energetic, fitting size 12-14 clothes rather than 18s-20s. My husband says I look like I'm 30 and now "gaurds" me when we go out.. I don't need my glasses with the computer anymore, just for small reading; my thinking is clearer and, as long as I don't eat my primary allergy/rash triggers (wheat, milk, corn, suger), my skin, hearing, sight, brain, energy, sugar, and mood are about 90% of what they were when I was a youngster. I do sometimes wonder why people (men and women) keep calling me sweety or sweetheart because I'm not THAT tiny and certainly not fragile, yet. :) That, laughingly aside, I'm feelin OKAY and will continue on the good path until I'm done in this life. See ya next year! Merry Christmas to you all and have a great New Year, discovering and enhancing your own path to a fit life. Peace For Us All!"

01/09/2012: Thegoatsage from San Francisco, California replies: "Caitlin, Could you tell me: How much baking soda you use when you do the hair wash? 01/15/2012: Caitlin from Austin, Tx replies: "Hi! to anwer your 3 questions:

1. I use about 1/2 cup of baking soda to a cup of water. I purchase the BIG boxes at Sam's so it lasts quite a long time. My husband says I always feel soft and smell yummy and fresh.

2. I spray the coconut mixture mostly on my hair though some of the mixture does get on the scalp, which I don't mind. It keeps it soft and supple. I would caution that you use only an organic cologne, not one with chemicals, as CO is a carrier oil. I will add that about once a week or so, before one of my cold water rinses, I dip my fingers in ACV and scrup my scalp. This keeps my scalp supple for hair growth and destroys any parasites, bumps, fleas or mites from my newly adopted cat. I do this when I plan to stay home, as ACV is not pleasant to the senses of everyone who smells it. That smell can last a good hour or two. Also, my cat scratches less with its use as well.

3. Sight: The most significant improvement in my sight happened when I switched to the low-carb diet I described above. Within 2 months, I noticed that my sight was getting better. Getting rid of my inflammatories which includes, , GRAINS, MILK, SODAS did a world of good and is allowing me to lose weight.

Thank you for asking. Peace! CAT"

B VITAMINS, OMEGA-3s, WATER

[YEA]  02/03/2007: Sharon from Sterling, CO writes: "One of the best things to do is not wash your face daily. When I was in Nursing school I was the only one to get this question correct. God placed natural oil in our skin. It takes 24-48 hrs to replace it. Vitamin B, E, aloe vera and molasses are great! I never put soap on my face either. I have 8 grown children (My oldest is 42) No one believes me when I tell them my age. They guess me to be in my 40s or 50s. For gray hair SAGE and the B vitamins are the key. Fruits, veggies, no junk food. Omega 3 oils to keep the skin moist and lots of water drink at least 6 a day. I am not a water drinker but I divide the portions up. I take 2 morning, 2 mid-morning, 2 afternoon or evening .Keep your system ALKALINE with Apple Juice. Orange Juice is too full of Acid. An Alkaline system rids it of Toxins. An Oatmeal pack is great! Use Purified or Distilled water if possible or boil the water for 10 minutes if neither one is available."

02/16/2009: Xara from London, UK replies: "I agree with raw foods but please don't mistake acidic foods for contributing to acidic body- the opposite can be true. Drinking lemon juice (i drink the juice of a full lemon in water with other stuff as well at least once a day if not three times) creates the alkaline condition- it is not the pH of the foods you ingest that is operative, but the effect of the 'ash' that is left after the food is digested. raw lemon juice is one of the MOST POWERFUL alkalising agents once can take and the effect it has on the liver and blood quality is breathtaking.

Please no one be put off lemons or limes. Alongside ACV, it is also a tremendously powerful fat burner. And highly energising. Do a search on health benefits of lemons and see for your self.

For anyone that is interested, the following foods should be consumed everyday if possible, they are in my opinion the most effective and nutritious foods and the health benefits and remedies they encompass are too great for me to mention here!

1. ACV
2. Raw onion or minced garlic
3.EV Olive oil
4. Chilli Pepper the hotter the better
5. Avocado
6. Milk thistle (powerful detox and unbeatable liver support)
7. Raw fresh lemon juice
8. Cinnamon (real, from sri lanka beware Cassia- it istoxic)
9. as much raw organic vegetables greens etc etc as you can handle a day
10. green tea.

I know its a lot. but half these ingredients can be combined into a drink and just gulped down! Come on people, be brave. I make up the drinks and just down them in three goes and its done! Drink to your health, literally.

Peace"

[YEA]  08/14/2007: Susan from HUNTERSVILLE, NC writes: "I'm having a hard time finding a beginning to describe what cold showers has done for me! first of all, this seems insane for me because i'm such a cold natured person. But since i've tried this i find that i'm not so cold anymore! I work out every day and play tennis twice a week, but first let me say i'm in my mid 40's, i have 4 children (two in their 20's and two are not yet school age) so keeping fit and appearance are very important to me! I've always been told i look half my age, but what i've noticed more than anything is my skin!! The improvement in tone is just amazing to me. The first few days (after showering in the cold) i just kept looking at my face in the mirror. Only after a few days of cold showers i noticed a difference in the way i felt, my energy, metabolism, skin, and my pain!!! i had a hip injury almost 8 months ago and i've been doing strengthening excersizes and therapy to help this slow healing process, but after taking the showers i've had almost NO pain!! that has been the most amazing part to me. I'm hooked. I'll never go back to warm showers (except when necessary) I only wish i had known about this years ago! But i can tell you, it's never too late!!!"

[YEA]  07/15/2010: Valerie from Peoria, Il replies: "Cold showers have been great for me too! I understand some people's hesitancy to hop into a cold show at first. What I do is start it out warm- not hot because those really hot showers just dry your skin up and I feel like they drive my body temperature up too. Instead, I start it out just warm enough to feel nice, then gradually cool it down as I am washing my hair & face, then by the time I get to the end of the shower, it's completely cold. I make sure to rinse out my hair completely with cold water, til there is no warmth running out of it anymore. My skin has definitely been more moist & smooth. My hair also feels much nicer- combining it with some of the natural shampoos talked about in other parts of the site, my hair is feeling much more soft and clean. I don't wake up the next morning with that gunky feeling in my hair. Cold showers take a little getting used to, but I definitely recommend trying it for a few days!"

My blood pressure was lower, and my pulse rate at rest has decreased from 72 to 54, which I find amazing. I am not in "great" shape physically, and I can only attribute these changes to the cold showers. This might actually be the 'fountain of youth'."

Sugar, salt and yeast are what causes wrinkles and exterior aging, especially salt, and animals products is what ages us health wise so if you eliminate them from your diet you too can have eternal youthfulness."

My secret to the youthful appearance (and i have energy of a 25 years old too) is i am a vegetarian, i eat lots of raw vegetables and fruits, i mean really plenty of fruits and juices and salads in my diet. I use only olive oil in any cooking, and i dont use any kind of salad dressing but instead i top up my salad with almond nuts and its not only healthy but also very very yummy. I take low fat yogurt daily. I never miss my green vegetables too, i have kale and spinach just lightly cooked with garlic daily and plenty of it. My weight never goes up and i m slim. I take a lots of garlic too. I drink plenty of water. I drink 500ml of green tea daily. I think more than chemical facials and other expensive skin care, what we eat is more important to determine our appearance and well being. use almonds nuts blended with milk into paste to apply to face for a about 15 mins and i wash off with warm water to get a clean healthy skin and beautiful skin. Apply raw coconut milk on face and lips and let is on for about 15mins and wash off, u will get a beautiful beautiful glowing skin."

I have always looked much younger than I am - Here is what I have always done: * Never take drugs of any kind - no aspirin, no antibiotics, no alcohol, no smoking, This is most important. * I eat raw salads daily and use generous quantities of Apple Cider Vinegar - Organic - and Organic Olive Oil. Most of the food I consume is raw and occasionally I add a little cottage cheese or organic cheese in small amounts and about one time per month, I eat organic kefir or yogurt - The only cooked food I have is vegetable soup that I make from organic vegetables. I do NOT eat any grains, rice, beans etc. Everyone asks me where I get my protein. Apparently I don't need it.

* Still have not gone through menopause, my hair has no gray, my teeth are just like when I was young - I do yoga daily and callanetics and am very active physically. Most people I know are sick with all kinds of things and they run for a prescription immediately - this, I believe, was the biggest factor for me. Oh one more thing - I also use lots of fresh garlic daily in salads. This may sound difficult, but I find it extremely easy to live like this and cook so minimally. No grease in the kitchen! Every time I drink it I end up spitting out some mucous even though I have no sinus congestion. I've noticed it has also regulated me. Right now I am doing just one mug in the late afternoon."

[YEA]  11/20/2008: C Evans from Jersey City, NJ writes: "Acne control, Appetite Suppress, Energy Drink For the above mentioned conditions, I must say I started using the Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and Unsulphured Black Strap Molasses about 4 months ago which I purchased from the Health Food Store. I must say that I noticed a difference in a weeks time. I did not feel sluggish or fatigue anymore and I started getting the compliment of how clear my skin appeared and I noticed that my Menstruation cylcle bleed, less, lighter and smaller blood clots.

In the beginning I used 2TBS of ACV with 2TBS BSM mixed with 8oz glass of spring water or when I ran out of the spring water I just settled for the faucet water. I enjoyed the drink so much that I then did this twic a day once in the morning and then again a bedtime.

Sometimes when I did not have the spring water, I would then take 1-2 TBS of ACV by mouth. I really prefer the mixed drink instead. Still using and will give more feedback in the futer. Good Bless!! "

[YEA]  Earth Clinic from Los Angeles, CA writes: "Here's another Earth Clinic Original Recipe, basically the combination of several of our most popular home remedies. Believe or not, this formula doesn't taste as bad as it sounds! The molasses cloaks the taste of the other ingredients.

Try this recipe first at night... you'll be surprised how refreshed you look and feel in the morning. If you like it, you may want to do it again in the morning.

PRIMARY INGREDIENTS
1 Tablespoon Blackstrap Molasses (be careful if you have diabetes -- this may be too sweet for you)
2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar
1/8 teaspoon of Baking Soda (per Ted's alkalizing formula)
Glass of hot water (steam distilled water is best)

OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS
2-3 shakes of cayenne pepper -- optional (good addition if you need to cut mucous production)
1/2 teaspoon of turmeric -- optional (add this if you have boils or any kind of acne)

Add these ingredients to your mug of hot (but not boiling) water. Stir well and sip slowly. You may want to follow this drink with a couple glasses of water since it can cause dehydration (especially during the night).

Note #1: Blackstrap Molasses is a great skin purifier.
Note #2: Apple Cider Vinegar causes the skin to glow with a healthy pink flush
Note #3: Turmeric appears to shrink pores
Note #4: Baking Soda alkalizes the formula"

I followed the recipe with warm, not hot water,
1 Tablespoon Blackstrap Molasses
2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar
1/8 teaspoon of Baking Soda
Glass of warm water

And i just took the recipe again this morning with a pinch of cinnamon (but I forgot the baking soda).

Thank you for this site, it's excellent and I have told all my friends and family about it!"
