[SIDE EFFECTS] Cameron from Brisbane, Qld, Australia writes: "I have started taking Cayenne Pepper, I do not know the strength and have a question for some one who knows a bit about it.

I am taking 1/2 a tsp in hot water, straight after taking it my Blood Pressure is going to 150 90 and my pulse over 90. It varies but I am very concerned, I feel dizzy as I write this and and will take my blood pressure again then go and lie down.

Can anyone tell me if this is typical, does it stop some time after getting used to taking it?

My normal BP is 127/75 and pulse between 64 and 72.

[YEA] Ray from Blairsville, Ga. writes: "I did a good bit of research on the Cayenne treatments before getting it for myself and told my wife about it and she trusted me enough to say she would give it a try also. Listen up folks, she is 73 on blood pressure medicine and arthritis pain pills for lower back pain which got so bad she would sit on the couch to watch tv and use a heating pad. The pain was so bad sometimes after being on her feet for awhile she would go to tears and it seemed to take hours for the pain pills to work. I told her not to take the blood pressure medicine while trying this because it may be unsafe. Within 24 hours the pain was gone with no pills, her blood pressure which was causing her bad headaches every afternoon is still as good as it was with the medicine and no headaches. She has lost 11 pounds in just over a week her energy level us up also.

She has had stomach problems all her life and hasn't needed any anacids since she started on the treatment just a little burning in her throat which was expect from it and she takes another drink of water and it goes away. She sleeps great and gets plenty of exercise going to the bathroom from all the water she drinks. Folks she has motion sickness and yesterday she forgot to take her pills before we took a trip from Ga. To Kentucky to visit relatives on winding mountains roads part way and didn't have a single problem even though she normally throws up and gets sick to the point sometimes of throwing up foam when her stomach gets empty. We are on well water where we live but I have read how bad flouride is for you since it's toxic, look on the back of your tooth paste it says if swallowed go to the emergency room so if it's in your water what do you think. Use room temperature spring water atleast, I can't tell you how much better she has gotten in just a week. Ray

I just cover my food with cayenne and love it. You get used to the heat very quickly and I use it at every meal, at least a teaspoon if not tablespoon, it's great in latte, red beer etc. If anything I over use it but I feel great, I always have a shaker of this pepper handy in my car, my suitcase, at work and camping.

Sunita from Santa Cruz, California writes: "My dad used to mix 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper in home-made buttermilk, drink it after meals everyday as long as I can remember. He said he was cured of peptic ulcer, ringing in ears, indigestion, gas problems and something else I forgot. He died a healthy 67 yr old from an auto accident. I have been sprinkling it on my food every day for about a year now and have had no colds. When I stopped for a few weeks while traveling I had terrible problem with swollen feet so I noticed as soon as I began taking the CP swelling was gone. An 86 yr old friend of mine swears by it for candida, circulation, eczema and her good vision. She has taken capsules for past 20 yrs. I have taken turmeric with warm milk for acid reflux and it has worked wonders.

Also, have a friend that took this for asbestosis and he swears by it. Another friend takes this to sleep and quit taking his meds, say he doesn't need them. Cayenne is also an anti-inflammatory agent and is also an expectorant, good for the lungs and the blood.

Dr. I'mnot ? from Beaumont, Tx writes: "I have been taking cayenne for 15 years and recommend it for anyone wanting: to lose weight, help with blood pressure issues, circulatory benefits, to lower cholesterol and even help with some headaches, help with stomach problems [(not for stomach ulcers) aloevera juice for stomach ulcers]. If you consume alcohol in excess your intestinal tract will lose some of its protection and will be easily upset by cayenne.

Cayenne can be absorbed into the system with warm or cool water, I would not recommend mixing with orange or lemon juice at first, reason being an incresae in acid can cause an upset stomach which would be blamed on the cayenne. If you use warm water with cayenne it can produce an uncomfortable burning upon exiting the body, with cool water it will be almost unnoticeable. I will take one tbsp (one tsp for beginners ) of cayenne pepper powder (bought at the store) mix with half a cup of water drink that and then drink a glass of water to wash it down. I can take it on an empty stomach with small side effects, but I don't recommend this for the beginner Good luck and to good health, Have a Great Day

[YEA] Paul from Swatara, Minnesota writes: "I had a heart attack on 1/27/2008 in the early hours which is typical as is having a stroke or heart attack in cold climates more often. I woke up soaking wet with pain in my chest and left wrist, it didn't take long to realize what was going on. I got online and checked in here to see what other people did for a heart attack and found cayenne was the key.

So I took a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a glass of room temp. Water (use warm water if you can) and around 5 minutes later I took it again. I then went and took a shower, got dressed and woke my wife up about 3 hours after I woke up. We then drove to the hospital where I got my only helicopter ride, they were acting like it was a big deal and time was of the essence but I felt otherwise. Anyway after a week in the hospital I realized I could of just stayed home. I had no surgery, no stents put in and am on no drugs for proffit. We take vitamins, fish oil, iodine/iodide, use full spectrum salt and eat organic whenever possible. I have never suffered from one episode of angina either. I also had low cholesteral which most heart attack victims have so DO NOT buy into you needing statins, they put me on them for three days till I got home and threw them in the trash. They will damage your body and not help you live one day longer.

God bless you all

[YEA] Blanche from Iberia Parish, Louisiana, Usa writes: "This pepper is easily grown from seed where the weather is warm. I grow my own.

When it is a bright red color, I pick it from the plant, then, wearing gloves, I cut it open to scrape out the seeds. Then slice the pepper in thin slices and dry on paper towels. In less than a week, they are completely dry and can be stored in a jar. Then whenever I want to add it to whatever hot drink I am making, I just add a half teaspoon or so and let it steep a few minutes. You may like to use more or less. I like this better because I get the essence of the pepper without choking on the dried grounds."

[YEA] Deb from Melbourne , Australia writes: "I take a tspn of cayenne twice a day in hot water with my green tea, ACV and bicarb soda. You can't taste the ACV. I can feel the cayenne moving through my body and feel wonderful afterwards. I am trying to get rid of some varicous veins. Recently the cayenne stopped a migraine which I normally get for days in its tracks. Stop Bleeding Fast! One of natures best remedies for cuts (even deep punctures) is believe it or not: Cayenne Pepper! This wonderful plant can be grown and therefore no "factory" will be necessary. To use - apply liberally on wound. The wound will form a scab and heal much quicker than with even sutures and with no scarring.

From the book: Cayenne Pepper medicinal uses:

Major benefits - Stops Bleeding (internal or external), Heart attack, stroke, or Shock, Dissolves clots.

Minor Benefits - Reviving, Fainting, Dizziness, Weakness, Confusion.

PROPERTIES & ACTIONS: Stimulant (improves blood circulation), diaphoretic (increases perspiration), carminative (improves digestion), tonic (strengthens and energizes a particular body organ or the entire body system), sialogue (stimulates secretion of saliva), rubefacient (increases superficial circulation, which often lessens localized pain from arthritis, inflammation, etc. , antiseptic (kills or controls the growth of bacteria).

Here is an excerpt from the book for an internal use:
Cayenne can be applied to open wounds or taken orally to stop bleeding. Nosebleeds, deep cuts, even arterial gushing will stop within seconds. Blood pressure is equalised throughout the body so there is no excessive pressure on the haemorrhage area and it can clot naturally.

Dan from Austin, Texas, Usa writes: "First of all, I love the site. Browsing through here has definitely helped my overall health and wellness and definitely cured a few ailments over the past few years. Next I would like to say that the most unpleasant feeling in the world for me is nasal congestion. I absolutely hate it when my nose is plugged.

One day, I awoke and couldn't breathe through my nose at all. Unfortunately it stayed like this all day. I headed to Earth Clinic where I found the suggestion to snort some cayenne. I could hear my mother's voice in my head questioning whether this was really such a good idea. I didn't listen to mother, and used the "it sounds the most extreme and must therefore work the best" logic. I started off by taking about 1/4tbs of cayenne and split it into two separate piles on my right and left index fingers, prayed to every religious figure I could think of, and snorted as hard as I could, one index finger into each nostril. At first it burned. I told myself to man up and deal with it and it will be fine. Then, it blazed. My eyes were watering attempting to put out the fire that was now in my nasal passages. Being the genius that I am, I attempted to wipe the tears with my hands. Turns out there was still cayenne the fingers I used to wipe my eyes. I've been poked in the eye, punched in the eye, spit in the eye, kicked in the eye, scratched in the eye--none of which compared to what I was experiencing. Frantically trying to rinse my eyes out to ease the pain and gulping down milk as the blaze had gone down the back of my throat I had nearly given up hope. I was convinced my eyes were ready to fall out and I had destroyed what was left of my sinuses. Ready to end it all I headed to get my rifle (or possibly some whiskey) when I took a deep breath through my nose. Sweet clarity. Sweet, sweet nasal clarity.

[YEA] Cayenne619 from San Diego, Ca writes: "The power of cayenne powder

The reason it suggested to take it with warm water is it works faster because the warm opens up the cell structure--makes it expand and accept the cayenne that much faster, and it goes directly to the heart, through the artery system, and feeds it in powerful food.

I am a recovering alcoholic in my 26th year and have bit longer without drugs. Before find cayenne powder the only holistic products was Epsom salt and ice for my pains.

September of 2009, I did the master cleanse for 7 days and 2 weeks of milk thistle with bentonite clay. During this cleanse noticed the odd annoying pain in my left leg had vanished. Upon more investigation came to the conclusion that caffeine had restricted my circulation and capsaicin (cayenne powder) had opened it.. I used to lie in bed and my leg would hurt or be sitting in a recovery meeting drinking coffee rubbing my ankle in pain. I am pain free:

Every night on an empty stomach before bed without food take 1 fresh squeeze orange, half tsp of cayenne powder and drop of safflower oil. Also in the morning I do the same but have food immediately or else there is the possibility with moving around that it will cause a horrible stomach problems from my movement. What I have read is cayenne powder works as a blood thinner. It suggested don't use it if you have high blood pressure, on other blood thinners.

It does lower ldl and raise hdl. It works also like Midol (pain inhibitor) for women with cramps.

It stops the production of "Substance P" in the spinal cord that sends synapses to neurons to the brain to let us know that there is pain,

I have found personally it has help me get a better night sleep and to feel restful and energized in the morning. I swear by it and use it for all my profile names.

About 15-20 minutes after taking the capsules I get terrible, sharp stomach pains, cramps, and gas that last for a good 30 minutes and have me doubled over in pain. It feels like I swallowed a bomb! I have read that cayenne should always be taken straight because digestion begins in the mouth, and the sharp spicy taste prepares the stomach to receive the pepper. For those fearful of the spicy taste, I vouch that I have a low "spicy-tolerance" and that when shooting the cayenne in a couple of ounces of liquid, the spiciness only lasts for 20-30 seconds and disappears completely. Not at all that lingering, intolerable burning we all know from eating Mexican food! Plus, drinking it straight gives you a pleasant head-rush and wave of energy. Cheers!"
