Arn from Seattle, Wa. writes: "Please don't go overboard in your reactions to using borax.

On one hand, it is not the toxic insecticide some imagine. The mechanism by which it kills bugs is by contact. They get a particle of borax on them, it burns a hole in the wax coating on their shells, they dehydrate. That's not going to happen to humans.

On the other hand, it is a micro nutrient, meaning your body doesn't need and can't use much. Big doses over a long period aren't a good idea. In concentration it kills pretty much every bacteria, virus and fungus which is handy for a lot of uses but not for your body. I wonder what it does to the friendly flora in your gut.

By the way, try putting a teaspoon each of sugar and borax in your Christmas tree water next year. It will stay green into spring.

Mama from London, Ontario writes: "I have really severe fibromyalgia and will be in a wheel chair in a few years if I don't do something about this, so I'm really glad that I found earth clinic. I am going to try the borax, h2o2, acv, baking soda, magmesiun, vitamin b's and colloidal silver. I am only 35 with four small children and I live in constant pain with chronic fatigue and everything else that goes with it. This ailment has stolen from me the joy of parenthood. These years should be an absolute treasure for me - not misery.

I also have a child with type 1 diabetes that we have been trying to cure for 6 years now. Can I give her (11years) borax and or h2o2? She must be full of flouride if I am. I know everyone says that you can't cure it but our bodies rebuild themselves and correct themselves if we bring them back to balance with what we take out, and what we put in. What do you think?

Thanks for your time,
Mama

[QUESTION] Val from Wichita, Ks writes: "Do you need to use a special water for the borax remedy? distilled? spring? filtered? bottled? or can you use tap water? i am trying to detox from fluoride but i find it a very big inconvenience to have to buy water, also we are on a strict budget and i am unsure if we can afford it as the family drinks alot of water ...

i understand tap water contains fluoride and that kind of defeats the purpose of using borax but that is why i am asking what kind of water i need to use then . thank you so much

after trying everything else you could buy at the store for his pretty much life long athletes foot problem - and not having results my boyfriend finally decided to try the remedy i kept telling him to try... borax - which he thought was poison him instantly but he 'trusted' the OTC stuff at the store!!! LOL

he wet his feet and then took a handful and rubbed it all over his feet.

he said they stopped itching immediately! he was stunned.

a few weeks later i asked him how his athletes foot was and he said: oh wow! it hasn't come back! that stuff totally cured it!!!

now he tells all his friends about borax ;)

I'm at the end of my second day of taking 1/8 tsp borax in 1 liter of water for treating rosacea and like some others experienced, beginning this morning I could feel slight kidney discomfort. I wouldn't say the kidneys hurt exactly, but they're making their presence known. In all other respects I feel fine. I tend to believe this is a sign my body is detoxing, but I don't want to be too little worried :) Could this be a sign of detox or is it a sign that I should stop immediately?"

Nicholas from Newcastle Under Lyme, Staffordshire writes: "Hi I have nothing against borax but just so you know what levels are harmful or have adverse effects I wanted to post this abstract from a study in the area. I would be keen to hear feedback, I unfortunatly can't access the study myself without paying to see it. So the limited information I have attained from this study is that you are safe to use borax as long as you can keep the levels at 175 ppm as (boron equivalent).

What sort of dose that is I do not know and would not like to go over it.

Now I have heard it is a great chemical for chelation of metals. Does it also chelate fluorides? This is really my main interest as fluorides are recommended to be kept below a certain level and evidence suggests I would be surpassing this. Not that I would no how to test this to be true.

One last comment the zeolite clinoptilite sounds brilliant for taking the heavy metals, I have done little research into it, all thoughts and responses welcome. Thank you

Here's the abstract:

Abstract

In Sprague-Dawley rats the acute po LD50 values for borax were 4.5 g/kg and 4.98 g/kg in males and females. respectively; boric acid, 3.45 g/kg in males and 4.08 g/kg in females. In Long-Evans male rats the LD50 values for borax and boric acid were 6.08 g/kg and 3.16 g/kg, respectively. In 90 day feeding studies, rats tolerated both borax and boric acid at 525 ppm boron equivalent. Dogs displayed no adverse effect at 175 ppm of borax (as boron equivalent) and 525 ppm of boric acid (as boron equivalent). In rats, high boron levels at 1750 and 5250 ppm of both compounds caused growth suppression, decreased food utilization efficiency, degeneration of gonads and skin desquamation on the paws and tails. At the 1750 ppm level, both boron compounds produced testicular atrophy in all male dogs. Two year dietary feeding studies indicated that both borax and boric acid could be tolerated by rats and dogs at 350 ppm boron equivalent. Rats fed dietary boron compounds at 1170 ppm levels showed toxic signs which were found to be similar to those observed in subchronic studies. Testicular degeneration was also observed in rats and dogs fed 1170 ppm levels. Reproduction studies revealed that rats fed both borax and boric acid at 1170 ppm boron equivalent were sterile. Both compounds at 350 ppm boron equivalent had no adverse effect on fertility, lactation, litter size, weight and appearance.

[WARNING!] Rani from Port Townsend, Washington, Usa writes: "Hi Ted, I recently became aware of Earth Clinic and was very excited about the remedy for fluoride "borax" and so I decided to give it a try...here's when things went awry. I went to my local pharmacy and asked for a food grade borax, if in fact any was available, the pharmacist told me he didn't have food grade borax, but that they carried "Boric acid" which he said was the"Same Thing" as borax. He went on to asked me what I was going to use it for, I told him I was going to ingest it as a remedy for fluoride removal from the body. He had never heard of such a thing but went on to look at the label(one side only) and it read "If ingestion of a quantity of 1 teaspoon were to happen, it went on to say, to make sure to drink lots of water. I always read the labels myself, but I did not have my glasses with me and I asked if he was the pharmacist and he said yes. so trusted that he knows his stuff, seeing how he went to school for 100 years to become a freaking pharmacist...come to find out after about an 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of this stuff (as recommended on this site by other users of borax...not boric acid), my son asked what I am taking and I told him and why...he was skeptical, but suggested that I should inquire of our naturopath. So before doing that, because I wanted to know immediatley, I went on line and found to my horror that it is a insecticide for killing roachs and a eye wash and salve for diaper rash and wounds, but that regular exposure from topical to breathing in the powder was toxic to humans...especially if ingested. Geez... I freaked out! I kept drinking lots of water and went to the ER, they checked me out and looked at me like a real nut and because I was not vomiting, having diarrhea, headache etc. they called poison control and finally sent me home with a "you'll Probably be ok and Probably no real threat to my life or kidneys, liver, heart, respiration, and nervous system damage. I am so upset and scared that damage has been done to my liver and kidneys that I will probably not know about for years( I am 61). "Is Boric Acid the same as Borax"? I looked on line and found that Borax goes by many names...boric acid and boron being only a few. I still want to rid myself of the fluoride because of thyroid issues and insomnia, but I need to be assured that the 20 Mule team in the supermarket isn't going to harm me. Thanks, Rani"

[YEA] Victoria from Sydney, Australia writes: "I started using apple cider vinegar (approx 1-2 tablespoon) with baking soda (1 teaspoon) in 750ml of water, and 1/8 teaspoon in borax every morning, and the same mixture again at night (without the borax). It has only been about 10days since I started doing this.

It has reduced all of my bloating, increased my energy, my stomach is almost flat again! This is something that I couldn't even achieve as a personal trainer and working out 6 days a week. I think I'm even passing some parasites (or what looks like parasites- little white things). My body is getting back to what I looked like as a teenager. Its amazing!

Also it is keeping by bm's 'regular', which has been an issue for me in the past.

I have not changed my diet at all, but I now no longer take sugar in my coffee, as I don't like the sweet taste (since starting the remedy). Also I'm not hungry all the time like I used to be!

Thanks goodness for Earth Clinic!"

I'am on my fifth day of the borax treatment 1/4 teaspoon in a liter of water and I have noticed the itching is not as bad anymore. Now I only feel them on my face sometimes when they are moving around. I have been loosing eyelashes for 2months now and I have also been using tea tree oil in all my face products and shampoo. My question is what can I use on my face since it feels so dry after everything I use. I hear that using creams on your skin only makes it worse its like mite food, but I cant stand feeling my face so dry and stretched out. Please advise me on what I should be applying on my face. I also wanted to ask you if the demodex mites could have come from a homemade cream I ordered online since there is no perservatives could it be they live in these creams?

[QUESTION] Mrs. Willis from Las Vegas, Nv, Usa writes: "Diabetes, Kidneys, and Borax

Hi, I registered on the earthclinic site, haven't figured out how or where post new questions, thus the reason for this email. I have recently read a pdf from the borax company which concerns me - I will keep this short - I have diabetes - So I am worried about using borax. Will borax cause kidney damage in someone who may have diminshed kidney function? - but then I am only going on what I read in the pdf. Also I am morbidly obese [315]

here is the quote from the pdf:

'Note to physicians: Observation only is required for adult ingestion in the range of 4-8 grams of Borax. For ingestion of larger amounts, maintain adequate kidney function and force fluids. Gastric lavage is recommended for symptomatic patients only. Hemodialysis should be reserved for massive acute ingestion or patients with renal failure. Boron analyses of urine or blood are only useful for documenting exposure and should not be used to evaluate severity of poisoning or to guide treatment.'

I really want to beat this thing. I was diagnosed 2 years ago - I gave up sugar, pasta, white bread, msg, junk food etc - Trying to learn to love exercise! I wont use sugar substitutes - I take NO medications whatsoever! I want to be healthy, for years I did not, I just didn't care.

Please advise. Thank you, Lana

Deirdre from Atlanta, GA writes: "I am on day 5 of Ted's borax remedy. I am treating what I believe it a fungal condition that I've had for over 10 years now (starting with athlete's foot I picked up at the dojo) and for fluoride removal.

I am taking a little less than 1/8th of a teaspoon in 1 litre of distilled water. I have not experienced any side effects with kidney pain like two people have recently reported on the site. However, when I tried this remedy about 2 years ago I did get kidney pain the second day because I had not read Ted's dosage carefully. The problem was (I think) that I did not dilute the borax in enough water... 2 years ago I think I put 1/8th of a teaspoon in 16 ounces of water, rather than 1 litre of water. 16 US fluid ounces = 0.473176473 litres!! Additionally, I did not use distilled water like I am now, but Brita filtered water (which doesn't remove chlorine). Perhaps using distilled water makes a difference. This time around I am making sure to err on the side of caution since I want to continue this for some time. I plan to take it 5 days on, 2 days off. If I have any side effects, I will stop for a few days and continue with even less borax.

Rob from New York mentioned that he had vivid dreams on the first night of taking borax for vertigo. I did too. In fact I had a strange dream about coughing up some nasty looking phlegm! Hopefully that was a sign that the borax is indeed detoxing my body. Will post more as time goes by...

[YEA] Angela from Cheltenham, England writes: "My daughter is a student and the house she shares is damp and full of fungus on the walls. Her room is the worst. When I went to pick her up for the Christmas holidays I took a plastic spray bottle of Borax and water (just put enough Borax in so that no more will dissolve). I sprayed the walls with it when I arrived and then wiped all the fungus off. After helping her pack I sprayed the walls again and just left them to dry. This was a last ditch attempt to make things better because the landlord would not do anything.

When I took her back after Christmas I didn't know what we would find but imagine my delight when we walked into her room to find not a trace of mould.

Thanks to all on this website who have written about Borax and how it kills fungus.

I hope this helps others in the same situation.

By the way, I live in the UK and it is impossible to buy Borax in any shop (even Boots). They are now selling something called 'Borax substitute' and no-one will give me a straight answer as to why they won't sell Borax. One assistant in Boots said that it was because old people used to put it in their eyes. Anyway, I eventually ordered a tiny amount from Amazon and to be honest you don't need a huge amount. Though one chemical company said they would sell it to my by the ton at a very good price.

[QUESTION] Phil from Dearing, Ga writes: "Hello Ted. It is great to see you back and posting here on EC!

I didn't know if I should e-mail you directly, since I had read on here that you were recieving alot of spam and was not opening some of your mail. ( So correct me if I am wrong and I will send to you.)

I do alot of reading about natural cures and alternative medicines, on alot of different websites...I did your borax 1/4 teaspoon in liter of water 5 days on 2 days off for six weeks for a terrible rash I had on my arms and it did seem to work very well for a while, but the rash does still occasionally flare up. When I drank the borax I noticed no bad side effects that some people report... The only thing that I noticed was a darker color stools ( Bowel Movement ) and NOT hard, but dryer and very dark. And it starts after the first day of drinking the borax water, a few days off stool goes back to normal medium brown color.

So my first question is why the dark stools?

Also viewing serveral other websites, such as Naturalnews.com,( Who for the the most part agrees and reports almost everthing that you report )

They have a VERY DIFFERENT view on BORAX and SOY. Both of which they say are POISIONS and NOT to put in or on your body... I am not very good with computers and do not know how to post the source here, but if you visit thier website Naturalnews.com and in their search box, type in borax, these articles will come up that really condemn the use of borax, even calling it a poison in the HPV vaccine and soy they say is a poison also.

So my second question why do they disagree with you on these issues, when they agree with you on so many other things???

Also, they promote BORON as being great...So can we use BORON suppliments and get the same results as we do with Borax? ( as in anti fungal and nano- bacteria )

And my last question. I would ask you a million if I could! LOL! But I know you are a very busy man. I find it very fasinating, how much knowledge you have on all subjects and I do know you have a chemistry background...

What would be the best approach for me to become a healer using alternative medicines? Is there certain studies I should take or certain schools you would recommend? I mainly want to heal myself, but I do know, I would probably need a licsense if I where to ever open a practice or store.

I know that there are tons of natural healers out there and alot of them do totally opposites of what others do. Is one method better than the other and if so what is the very best one?

Sincerly I THANK YOU, for all that you do!

Phil

In the last century before there was store bought bottles of cleaning concoctions people made their own products. Women with the long hair used Borax Water to clean their hair very efficiently. The recipe I use is 1 cup of Borax to 1 gal of very hot water. Let it sit for 24 hours and shake it occasionally. Use only the water from this jug to wet your hair and just squeeze through, don't scrub. Rinse throughly and if needed do a vinegar rinse to clean any buildup.

When you are low on the borax water I add water and/or borax to keep the level right in the jug.

[YEA] Smith from San Francisco, California, Usa writes: "A year ago I came to this site to find a remedy for ringworm. I had gone through an number of over the counter products, which seemed to spread the fungus instead of stopping it. It had developed because of taking prescription medication with fluoride base. Yes I was poisoning myself with a doctor's help.

I tried Apple Cider Vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and urine to no avail. By the time I found Borax at WalMart, the fungus had spread all over my hands and I had begun to worry that I would be spreading it everywhere on my body. Plus my hands were cracked and bleeding, blistering and peeling, and the itching was endless.

So I started on Ted's recommended dose of 1/8 tsp in a liter of water and drank it slowly over a few hours. This worked within the first few days so well that I didn't want to stop after a few days to take a break, but I did. Within a months time the ringworm had completely vanished and the only thing left was the tiny pits in my fingernails where the fungus had affected the growth of the new nail.

Once my nails were not pitted anymore I stopped taking the borax supplement."

Crista from Pekin, Illinois writes: "I have been researching the boron/borax issue because I want to use it, but have been quite afraid because of all the talk of it being toxic or poisonous. So I found a sientific article online that states this:

"Borax is necessary in small amounts for plant growth, one of the 16 essential nutrients. In larger amounts it is poisonous to plants, and the range can be small. For peaches, 1 ppm is required, but more than 5 ppm is toxic. If the signs of boron deficiency are noted in plants, a boron supplement can be applied. Borates can be used as non-toxic and non-specific herbicides. Borates are non-toxic to animals. The LD50 (dose at which there is 50% mortality) for humans is about 6 g per kg of body weight. Anything above 2 g is considered non-toxic, and borates are only 2 to 3 times as toxic as aspirin. Therefore, you are pretty safe unless you eat a pound and a half of borax for a snack. Borates are more toxic to insects than to mammals. The boranes and similar gaseous compounds are quite poisonous. As usual, it is not an element that is intrinsically poisonous, but toxicity depends on structure."

J.B. Calvert, (24 November 2002). Boron. Retrieved 03 October 2009, from http://mysite.du.edu/~jcalvert/phys/boron.htm

Sorry I am all about the references, plus this article has several quality references in it.

My husband was worried about me ingesting this so that is why I have done so much reasearch. I really feel it is safe, but even with this I am still a bit slow to try it. I will get up the courage soon. I just wanted to put this fact out there for all the people that argue about it. I think mainly I am afraid of the detox reaction I might have because my face has been pink for quite some time and if I put lotion on it or anything else it become very red till it is dry. I have washed my face twice with it so far though and it has at least dried up my acne. I also just used a bathroom cup to add water to some borax and then poored it on my hair. After rinsing then I shampooed. It did make it soft, although I tried to combine it with my body wash and it created a perm smell so I am going to do it by itself next time. Good luck everyone who tries Borax, but it is safe in small quantities.

[QUESTION] Crista from Pekin, Illinois writes: "I know I posted the quote earlier, but as I have been continuing to research, why not just take the Boron suppliments versus drinking the Borax? Is there a big difference in taking one or the other? If Ted or someone else could answer this that would be great."

[QUESTION] Bet from Jakarta, Indonesia writes: "hai ted and earth clinic..

my name is bet...i'm from indonesia.

it's very hard to find borax in indonesia. it was banned by the goverment...it's considered a harmful substance since many people used it for wrong reason.

after looking for almost 2 months, i got a 'black market supplier' for borax.

it is in a form of powder.

this man (the supplier) said that the powder is borax...but how i know if it is not boric acid...or it may not be borax after all.

he said that real borax will make greenish flame if burnt...is that true ? does boric acid also make greenish flame ?

i love my dog very much...you must have listen to that too many times.

he got ivermectin shots for 5 times in almost 3 months, and also i bathed him with amitraz for 3 times.

the demodex almost all gone, hair all grown, except on his face...it might be because i'm hesitate to apply amitraz on her face. i'm afraid it will do him harm than good.

i attached pictures of my dog, his name is borris. it was taken over time during demodex nightmare.

really need your help.

thank you."

[YEA] Leelannee from Sussex, Nj writes: "I read about using 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon of borax in water for various health issues, although not insomnia specifically. I decided to try it, and right away noticed that I was able to fall asleep easily and sleep through the night better. I've had insomnia & nightmares for years & have tried many natural supplements & remedies. I'm often tired but don't feel sleepy...after so many years of insomnia, I LOVE that delicious sleepy feeling! Magnesium has worked ok for me but gets expensive & sometimes I'd be awake for an hour or more after sleeping for just a few minutes. Perhaps the borax is detoxifying flouride or something from my body, or killing off a fungus that was affecting my health. However, I've skipped the borax twice in the last few weeks and had a horrible time that same night. I've read that boron helps you absorb calcium better, and calcium helps you relax and sleep, so maybe that's why it's helping me. In the morning I prepare a liter bottle with 1/4 teaspoon borax and sip it throughout the day. Even if I finish it in the early afternoon or drink the whole bottle an hour before bed, it seems to work"

Chandra from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India writes: "Under what name is borax available in India? If I ask for borax in the local pharmacy, I am given boric acid, which is a white powder we use to keep ants away. I read the initial warning not to use boric acid instead of borax. Kindly let me know what I should look for."
