[YEA] 01/19/2010: Victoria from Sydney, Australia: "I started using apple cider vinegar (approx 1-2 tablespoon) with baking soda (1 teaspoon) in 750ml of water, and 1/8 teaspoon in borax every morning, and the same mixture again at night (without the borax). It has only been about 10days since I started doing this.
It has reduced all of my bloating, increased my energy, my stomach is almost flat again! This is something that I couldn't even achieve as a personal trainer and working out 6 days a week. I think I'm even passing some parasites (or what looks like parasites- little white things). My body is getting back to what I looked like as a teenager. Its amazing!
Also it is keeping by bm's 'regular', which has been an issue for me in the past.
I have not changed my diet at all, but I now no longer take sugar in my coffee, as I don't like the sweet taste (since starting the remedy). Also I'm not hungry all the time like I used to be!
Thanks goodness for Earth Clinic!"
EC: Thanks! Cross-posted to the acv and baking soda remedy page.
04/26/2010: Kelly from San Luis Obispo, Ca replies: "Hello Victoria,
I was so excited to read your post. I am about to start the same protocol you outlined in Jan. I wanted to know a few things if you have a minute. 1) did you have any side effects 2) do you still feel great today and 3) did you change your diet in a significant way. Glad to hear you no longer want sweets. I avoid them but still crave them. Thanks for your help. Kelly"
03/17/2014: Man from Sojouring America replies: "This is very interesting. I am looking forward to trying this Borax. I just went to the local store and picked up some up. I am building my courage as I read these testimonials."
06/04/2014: Jennysmom2 from Idaho, US replies: "I would appreciate any comments on this. I am a 50 year old women that is estrogen dominant and have candida. I am 30 pounds over weight, that will not budge. I also suspect low thyroid, as my basal temperature is in the low 95 degree range in the mornings. I have been taking the ACV with baking soda and 1/8 teaspoon borax daily for a week now, I was previously just taking the ACV and baking soda. I have had a slight headache, which is unusual for me. I have been feeling great with a lot of extra energy and a much more positive attitude and outlook on life. The most exciting part is that I am losing about 4 ounces in body weight each day. I was hoping someone could comment on this. I will continue this routine, as I think it will greatly improve my health."
06/04/2014: Timh from KY replies: "To reduce estrogen take DIM, Evening Primrose Oil, and L-Methionine supplement. To improve thyroid function take Kelp and Coconut Oil."
06/05/2014: Jennysmom2 from Idaho replies: "Thank you for your comment. I guess I am just wondering if the rapid weight loss is from the borax. I am down 4 pounds in a week from my previous low weight. (weight varies a couple pounds a month due to cycle.) I have lost 1 inch on my stomach and 1/2 inch on my hips. Previously, my weight would not budge. Additionally, I have no more soreness on the sides of my thighs or breasts. (A sign of estrogen dominance.) I guess I am just wondering if the rapid weight loss is from the borax? Killing the candida, lowering my ph, balancing my hormones, or all of the above. I really haven't read anyone say anything like this before. Also, I really can't figure out exactly how much boron is in 1/8 teaspoon borax. If someone could tell me, I would appreciate it."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 03/23/2008: Middlebunny from Jersey City, NJ USA: "Ailments: Fibroid, eczema and Meningioma (brain tumor)
Remedy: Blackstrap Molasses and Borax Cures
Do they work? Maybe
I have had eczema occassionally for years. I'm not sure of the cause. My dermatologist used to prescribe elocon cream; however, this is no longer on the rx formulary for my health plan and too expensive to purchase without insurance. I began putting 1/4 teaspoon of borax (laundry soap) in 1 liter of water and drinking this while at work. I'm not a water drinker so I rarely finish the whole bottle and don't do it consistently (4 days on and 3 days off) as Ted recommended. Despite this, the eczema seems to be improving substantially. It is no longer itchy and seems to be fading away after about 6 weeks.
I was diagnosed with uterine fibroid tumors in January 2003 and have been avoiding surgery. In 2006, a reproductive endocrinologist advised me that the fibroids had expanded my uterus to the size of someone who was 6 months pregnant. He scheduled me for a myeomectomy (abdominal versus vaginal) which I later cancelled. I wasn't comfortable with the doctor nor did I want to spend 2 months recovering. In 2007, I was also diagnosed with a meningioma on my right optic nerve close to where it intersects with the left optic nerve. Because of the location surgery wasn't possible so I did the recommended 6 weeks of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy. This apparently has stopped the tumor growth but triggered a whole host of other problems (loss of taste sensation, more eczema, hair loss, exhaustion, black spots on my tongue, etc., etc) which is what led me to the earthclinic.com website.
Thanks to Ted and the other contributors to this site, I have found out that my body is acidic (5.9ph) which might explain why I had such a bad reaction to the radiation. In the meantime, I have been trying a few of the remedies with enough success to make me realize that modern medicine isn't always best for every health condition.
I have been taking Blackstrap Molasses since I first stumbled on the website about 5 months ago along with ACV and Baking Soda. I'm not very good at taking them daily since I forget, I have increased my intake of vitamins and supplements. I take a multi-vitamin (after breakfast of instant oatmeal) every workday with the ACV/BS in glass of water(before eating). My GYN prescribed Ponstal to contol the unbelievable bleading during my periods which come about every 21-24 days from the onset of one. I'm still in the phase where I only have about 5 days a month with no bleeding or discharge but I think this is improving. I went through some sort of healing crisis last November and thought I might have to be rushed to the hospital due to the uncontrollable bleeding but since then it has improved. The Ponstal must be taken with food every 6 hours so I generally do that for the first 4 days of every period. In addition, I take about 1-2 tablespoons of BSM in the morning before work and 1 after dinner at night while I'm taking the Ponstal. I seems to be reducing the bleeding and shortening my heavy flow days from 7 to about 4. It is difficult for me to say for sure that the BSM is the reason for my improvement since I'm doing a lot of cures at once. I'm also taking a garlic tincture that someone made for me which is supposed to help dissolve the fibroids (this is garlic cloves with vodka which sits refrigerated for 2-3 weeks, drained and then taken orally with a dropper). I also don't take that consistently either. You are supposed to take 25 drops 3 times a day (after the 1st month where the # of drops vary). I generally only take it in the morning and occassionally at night. To avoid smelling like garlic all day, I brush my teeth with baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and floride-free toothpaste, then drink water with a teaspoon of chlorophyl. I ususally do this every morning before work but have reached the point where it seems to give me gas later on during the day so I'm currently taking a break from the garlic tincture (2 weeks so far) until my stomach can handle it again.
I would really like to know what Ted thinks of my remedy experiments to see if they should be modified in any way. If any of your readers have suggestions, I would appreciate those as well.
Thank you, MB"Replies
07/23/2009: Raquel from West Palm Beach, FL replies: "Hi Middlebunny, by what you say it could be that you have a systemic fungal infestation so besides the things you're doing perhaps you should follow an anti-candida/fungal diet. It can't hurt to try, you would know whether it's making a difference or not during the first few weeks anyway.
I've read that since garlic can kill bad bacteria it can also kill the good ones so maybe that's why you were having gas, maybe you could alternate its use with taking a good probiotic or eating a good plain yogurt every day.
Since most of the damage to our health due to fungi comes from the mycotoxins they produce I recommend that you take several grams of Vit. C and 100-150 mg. of zinc each day, these nutrients have the ability of neutralizing different types of mycotoxins. Other antioxidants, vit. D, selenium and calcium have similar activity too (taken from http://www.orthomolecular.org/library/jom/1998/articles/1998-v13n04-p244.shtml)."
11/24/2013: Erika from Grand Junction, Co replies: "I'm a big fan of garlic too. I hate to taste it with out it being in amazing food. so when I take it I just crack the head of garlic and get the little cloves and swallow like pills. I can hardly taste it and it doesn't seem to give me bad breath. I've had some tremendous success with using essential oil on balancing hormones.. Just something to look into in the future. God bless your efforts, you're on the right track taking your health back into your hands."
[YEA] 03/19/2008: Jamie from Nottingham, Notts: "Hi, Just want to add that I use sodium tetraborate often. I am using it to successfully treat myself for candida, I use it to dilute my dishwasher powder 50%, the same with washing powder, clothes smell fresher and towels dont have to be boiled !!. I mix the powder with sodium bicarbonate and use it on my carpet several hours before hoovering and it removes the stale smeels that build up over the years, also sprikled in the bin before hte bag goes in to stop nasty smells - this works extremely well. I also use it over my body occasionally before i have a shower - My skin feels and looks healthier. What a great product."
07/14/2010: Labes from Toronto, Ontario, Canada: "Hi everybody, I'm just curious if the Borax remedy of Ted's helped anybody with mycobacteria infection?"Replies
03/20/2012: Zilverb from Seabrook, Texas, Usa replies: "Yes, the borax works. It kills off amobia (parasites) body-wide. For me that meant ITP (low platelets) which is fatal in older people about half the time. It means any other amobia that affects the person such as for fibro. Many people use Ted's remedy for body wide detoxification of amobia (parasites).
1/8-teaspoon (1/4-teaspoon for people over 180-pounds) borax (sodium tetraborate, sodium borate, or disodium tetraborate) into 1 liter of distilled water. Sip throughout the day. Five days a week and take two days off. No longer than 30-days. Take a break. When this water is gone drink other plain water."
08/11/2008: Jonathan from NY, New York: "Hi I believe Ted recomends 1/8 of a teaspoon to 1 liter of water of borox 20 mule team the natural laundry detergent but not every day. I am not sure how many times a week. I think may be 2 or 3 times a week He believes it works much much quicker then the supplement form for osteo arthritis. I think it has an effect in about a weeks time. I take it sometimes and it does no harm to me. I do not have arthritis so I cannot give feedback regarding it. Check out how he says to use it on the the cures for osteo arthritis on this website."
06/15/2008: Mary from Milwaukee, Wi: "Started your remedy with Borax, h202 baking soda celtic salt...started having worms come out in my stool...white stringy... inch or so...any thoughts?"
EC: We will send this to Ted for response! In the meantime, can you please tell us exactly how much of each ingredient you were taking? Thanks.
06/17/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Yes - my thoughts are that since the worms are exiting, your borax concoction must be making it unpleasant for the worms and I'd keep it up until no more worms.
There is a worm called Strongloides stercorales that infests us humans that is commonly called string or thread worm, but the only ones I've seen were from urine that I was looking at under a microscope. Several of us in a little small town I was living in at that time suddenly got heavily infested with them after the municipal water supply churned up the water (looked like a combination of mud & rust) to clean out the water lines. The man at the health department I delivered one to for indentification told me was either strongloides or tape worm. When asked which he would rather have, his reply was the tape worm because it had to exit the body to reproduce and Strongloides didn't."
06/18/2008: S Doboze from Berlin, Germany replies: "Yes. American mainstream meat is loaded with worms. Pests do not like the alkaline environment.
Eat organic, and you must go with long-term suppliers who show you the source and method and condition of raising and slaughter. The generic organics are put out by the industrial manufacturing; QAI is bribed, and the price is specifically designed to undercut authentic Organic Providers; putting them out of business.
Support /local, traceable, authentic/ organic agriculture."
09/29/2010: Shirl from Fort Worth, Tx replies: "Does drinking borax remedy help rid the body of ascaris/roundworms?"
[YEA] 05/14/2007: Guy from Escondido, California: "I buy clear plastic gallons of spring water. After reading Ted's explanation of sea salt being alkaline, I remembered that this is the water cure as shared by Dr. Batamanghelidj. (See watercure.com) So to a gallon of water I add one teaspoon of unrefined sea salt, several pinches of baking soda, and 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of borax. I drink this while at my job 5 days per week. At home I drink the same mix without the borax.
This past week, there was something I noticed under my arm. A tick. I did not want to pull it out but it died and fell off in less than two days. I think it's due to the borax which I think is amazing. A tick is a parasite.
I've also been drinking ACV with molasses and mix the ACV with baking soda until it stops fizzing. I'm glad I found this site."
06/22/2010: Susan from Cincinnati, Oh: "Pineal decalcification
Can the borax remedy actually allow the pineal gland to start functioning again? Besides, Borax, is there anything that I need to add to get my son's pineal gland back to normal?
07/21/2011: Amy from Florence, Ky replies: "Hi Susan,
A pinch of Nutmeg in a glass of water everyday should help also. But no more than a pinch, too much can make you sick."
10/28/2011: Pat from Sudbury, Ontario replies: "Borax is to clean out. What I suggest is the use of iodine to get the pineal gland decalcified."
11/29/2011: Ally from Jerusalem, Israel: "Dear Earth Clinic,
First off let me say how wonderful this site is -- thank you! I have scleroderma and have been helped tremendously by Ted's advice here, H202 taken orally and also inhalation methods have done wonders for me.
I also have psoriasis, and started borax at 1/8 tsp in 1 liter of water per day. After day 9, today, I still have absolutely no reaction to the borax, neither positive nor negative.
I was wondering if this is normal? Is the dosage too low?
Thank you for your help!!"Replies
11/30/2011: Lily from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia replies: "Ally, your Borax dosage is just right. Make sure you take it 4 days on 3 days off. Not everybody has symptoms with borax. Cheers Lily."
12/01/2011: Ally from Jerusalem, Israel replies: "Hi Lily,
Thanks so much for your response. I am just wondering what it means if it doesn't work for psoriasis -- do I need to increase the dosage? When should I begin to see an effect?
[YEA] 04/03/2014: Zevn7tp from Stockton, California replies: "I've been using 20 Mule Team Borax for a week now with 500mg of Magnesium and I'm almost fully psoriasis free. Dose 1 tsp of Borax in one liter of water to make a concentrate. Then take only 2 tsp of the concentrate and mix it into a glass of water. Drink that with food. I do it at breakfast. Be sure to take a 500 mg magnesium pill with it also, or the Borax WILL NOT activate. Borax alone will do nothing for psoriasis. You have to have the magnesium with it. Hope this works better for you. It's working for me. I'm actually stunned that I've had this stupid psoriasis all these years and it was such a simple fix. Summer time shorts here I come."
04/04/2014: Anthony from Philly Pa replies: "Hi. I'm gonna try this. Have you had any other issues besides the skin problem? Any digestive problems? Also, do u take this every day? Thank you!"
10/13/2009: Chocolit21 from Memphis, Tn: "Ted~
For the past five years I have had this itchy rash/urticaria/hives that break out all over my body.I get pains in joints and swelling in my extremities. No known diagnosis and have been tested and treated with everything under the sun and nothing has worked. I beleiev I have some type of fungal or candida problem because I was taking 1 diflucan a day 200mg and 2 fiberchoice tablets and 1 culturelle probiotic pill daily for a month or so. It cleared for many months and came back after I got extremely stress form the death of a family member. I had a recent CT scan for possible pneumonia and found out I didn't have it but evidence of Granulomatous disease. I think this may be my problem.I want to try the Borax remedy. What do you think?"Replies
10/28/2009: Angie from Jersey City, Nj, USA replies: "Diflucan (fluconazole) is loaded with fluoride. Read this link http://onibasu.com/archives/am/255637.html. You are quite likely suffering from fluoride poisoning, and need to do borax treatment. go slow."
[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 07/13/2009: jetstream from Norwich, UK: "Re: the borax page. Could you update with information on the time period involved? ie how long is it safe or recommended to take the borax & h202 in water cure?
I have a sore recurring (monthly) rash on my abs and neck. When taking the borax and h202 remedy for about 6 weeks, the rash was rapidly reducing over a few months in total, to the point of thinking that it had gone. But then it came back with full force. I'll try again, but how long is safe?
[YEA] 04/22/2009: DAT from Tokyo, Japan: "I started to get skin rashes around my neck that started to spread down my trunk. Nothing work until I switched to Borax shampooing and for washing my body. With three or four days, the rash that had gotten slowly worse for a year was gone--and it has never came back. I used to mix it in water, but I've started just putting it on straight. No only is my rash gone, but it cured my dandruf and my hair is healtheir and thicker than it has been for years. I've been using it for about a year now, and I'll be using it until the day I die."Replies
05/05/2010: Justin from Tokyo, Japan replies: "I am really eager to buy some borax for a fluoride detox. I live in Tokyo, Japan and I really cant find the borax that everyone is taking for detox. As far as I know it is the "20 Mule Team Borax" (safe to ingest, right?) but I just can't find it anywhere. I can order from the US but it is going to be really expensive. Can anyone help me please? I am desperate."
05/05/2010: Bunkyo from Tokyo, Japan replies: "Borax in Japanese is called hosha. (Many Japanese don't know how to read the character for this, but it's HO-U in katakana and sha is the kanji for sand (suna). The cost at Amazon is 924 yen for 500 grams. http://www.amazon.co.jp/å¥æ Â製è¬-ãÂÂã¦ç Â-ç²Âæ«-P-500g/dp/B000V2FG4W
Or...you can go to http://www.tougeishop.com/item/tougei_genryou/t0804/t0804034.htm and order 1 kg for 609 yen. It seems to be the same thing, and you can use it for washing clothes, washing your hair, etc. But for consumption, probably the type from Amazon would be better. Good luck!"
EC: Sorry, our database doesn't currently accept Japanese characters! Will see if we can in the future.
11/16/2012: Jonathan from Ft Lauderdale, Fl: "Hello Ted, I read your posts on borax with great interest, and have found many interesting articles on the benefits of borax substance in the human body, as well as the following articles that appear to debunk the myth that exposure can lead to infertility:
Reproductive toxicity in boron exposed workers in Bandirma, Turkey.
Low frequency of infertility among workers in a borate processing facility.
I did come across two articles from Thammasat University that I wanted to get your feedback on:
Effect of borax on immune cell proliferation and sister chromatid exchange in human chromosomes
Genotoxic effects of borax on cultured lymphocytes.
On the flip side, other studies have shown that borax guards against genetic damage in human lymphocytes:
In vitro studies on chemoprotective effect of borax against aflatoxin B1-induced genetic damage in human lymphocytes.
Boron compounds reduce vanadium tetraoxide genotoxicity in human lymphocytes.
I would imagine that if boron leads to genotoxic effects, then birth defects or negative health consequences would have been noted in the studies listed above on occupational exposure and fertility.
I am curious on what you might have to say about the fact that genetic alterations and apoptosis have been observed in the very same cells that borax has been shown to exert protective effects."Replies
11/16/2012: Roec from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "You have cited published medical research strictly controlled and approved by AMA and FDA guidelines and acceptance. Let not this define your perception regarding the efficacy and safety of Boron.
In many cases the funding for such provided studies should be a considering factor regarding the integrity of these journals. Also, most importantly a detailed history regarding the medical and medicinal use of boran should be researched over a longer period of time, for example, past 100 years before the strong hold of the current cartel of medicine.
This website is evidence that modern medicine is not working and many paradigms are not as they seem."
11/17/2012: Jonathan from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida replies: "Perhaps such a conspiracy you mention exists, but if it were as pervasive as you suggest, then no articles would be listed on PubMed in support of using borax. In addition, all of the articles I cited originated either from Turkey, Rome, or Thailand, in which case the FDA does not apply.
The research I cited is both supportive and critical of the use of borax/boron. In fact, the articles from Thailand were the only ones I could find to support the notion of "genotoxity. " In addition, the genetic and apoptotic effects observed in Thailand are inferred by its authors to be potentially pathological, whereas such genetic alterations might have a neutral or even positive effect on the individual's immune system. That said, the authors in Thailand provide microscopic images of these effects, and therefore it is difficult to dispute. I take these findings with a grain of salt until such studies can be replicated in a different lab. I also question the toxicity of this substance, since various studies have shown no documented ill effects in borate miners who are constantly exposed to these substances. There do appear to be cases where boron exposure causes spontaneous hair loss and skin eruptions, but this could be due to allergies or various systemic physiological imbalances, such as vitamin/mineral deficiences.
Here are two more articles in support of using borax medicinally:
Borax counteracts genotoxicity of aluminum in rat liver.
Preparation and characterization of antimicrobial wound dressings based on silver, gellan, PVA and borax.
Borax used to be prescribed medicinally in the United States, and in fact I found this image of a medicine bottle from 1920:
Not many articles are listed on Pubmed on this topic prior to 1950, however there was one article from 1902 that described (in great detail) the results of the administration of borax and boric acid in children:
ON THE INFLUENCE OF BORIC ACID AND BORAX
UPON THE GENERAL METABOLISM OF CHILDREN.
I will follow this post with an exhaustive review of the literature on borax for anyone who is interested."
11/19/2012: Roec from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "No, not an intentional conspiracy but rather, only formulated substances that can be patented tend to receive funding for clinical trials. The conspiracy is not against Boron but only to maximize profitability for a drug producing and manufacturing company with patentable substances.
And yes, there are published journals for the use of Boron. Most if not all of the medical journals documenting the use of Boron and other natural substances like olive leaf extract, lavender oil are studied by scientists, research physicians and universities but then never make it to mass clinical trials, never officially written into pharmacopeia as effective standard treatments.
Don't let medical Journals dictate 100% of your beliefs. Many doctors I have spoke with even know to be cautious with citing these journals.
With that said, they are useful as published data can show that the substance studied has shown safe and effective in small scale testing or may be supported by other journals also published giving confidence in the substance."
12/14/2012: Eddy from Perth, Western Australia replies: "If any medical research centre decided to, it could publish a study saying "table salt toxicity in mice" - and so people would start getting scared of table salt thinking it was now a 'toxic' substance!
The heading is designed to get attention only. Read the article and you would discover that the salt levels used in the 'research' were high (for mice). That's what these researchers do. They keep increasing the dose until there is a reaction, then publish the results to show they have discovered something.
Simple 'toxicity' is not the issue.
Many natural chemical substances are toxic at high doses. Salt and borax are no different to hundreds of other substances. Abusing/exceeding the accepted or therapeutic dose can do harm but at the normal dose great benefits can be obtained."
04/03/2011: Rain Ra from San Francisco, California, Usa: "Anyone who has used Borax for Rheumatoid arthritis would you answer a quesiton. It is my understanding that using Borax will rid your body of fungus that causes the RA. It will cure RA. Once the Borax has worked which from what I've read takes just a couple of weeks or less, how long do you continue taking it? Do I need to continue taking every month, week, day or what?
Thank you, Rain"
[YEA] 10/08/2009: Smith from San Francisco, California, Usa: "A year ago I came to this site to find a remedy for ringworm. I had gone through an number of over the counter products, which seemed to spread the fungus instead of stopping it. It had developed because of taking prescription medication with fluoride base. Yes I was poisoning myself with a doctor's help.
I tried Apple Cider Vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and urine to no avail. By the time I found Borax at WalMart, the fungus had spread all over my hands and I had begun to worry that I would be spreading it everywhere on my body. Plus my hands were cracked and bleeding, blistering and peeling, and the itching was endless.
So I started on Ted's recommended dose of 1/8 tsp in a liter of water and drank it slowly over a few hours. This worked within the first few days so well that I didn't want to stop after a few days to take a break, but I did. Within a months time the ringworm had completely vanished and the only thing left was the tiny pits in my fingernails where the fungus had affected the growth of the new nail.
Once my nails were not pitted anymore I stopped taking the borax supplement."
07/01/2013: Dave from San Francisco, California replies: "Hey you're so right, as a mechanic I was hurt by the same fungus-tinia manus, got it from fungus that grows in oil or diesel, borax rids the problem and also a mold antibiotic-griseofulvin or fulvicin also will eat the fungus for 90 days, that took care of my problem, so was wondering what other common ailments are easily cured that you know of, thanks, dave s"
