<description>[YEA] Joy from Battleground, Wash writes: "It\'s almost summer... I take baking soda for hotel stays and spread it on the rug to cut any odors from cleaners or chlorine in nearby pools getting into the air. Take some for camping in tents or yurts ; a little bit of soda in a bowl or on a plate can soak up some of the odor from molds or musty smells.

You will also have it with you for other uses: teeth, bites, stings, scratches, cooking.

<description> Cyber Pony from Miami, Fl writes: "be careful when buying Arm Hammer baking soda. The box got recently, same orange color as before, said for household use, refrigerator etc but could not find ingredients listed on it. Small print said not for cooking on it. I kept turning the box over and over and in a very inconspicuous area, it said conditioner added for easy flow!!!! Now how much harder is the flow in regular, untainted Baking Soda - Sodium Bicarbonate? I am appalled at Arm &amp; Hammer for pulling this stunt. Seriously? please EC, post this conspicuously so our community will know to buy another brand, like me. thanks.

<description> Suzanne from La, Ca, Usa writes: "Hi Ted, I\'ve been taking 1 tbsp baking soda in 8 oz of distilled or spring water every morning for at least 6 months. It\'s help clear me out in the morning and I read about in online for a cancer cure. I don\'t have cancer but developed adult onset asthma about 14 mths ago and then candida for over 6 mths now due to 3 weeks of antibiotics for a severe sinus infection from advair that I was on for one month last Feb. I have never been sick like this before in my entire life. I\'m 54, had chronic hives for 7 years like 15 years ago but that went away. though I need claritin occasionally for itchiness I\'ve had generally very good health til a year ago when I developed the asthma. Last night I started a 6th or 7th round of 5 days of Prednisone for severe asthma attack.

My question is if you could please tell me if taking the baking soda every morning like that okay long term??? I also take it occsionally 1/2 tspn with juice from one lemon or lime for the candida (which really helps it) is okay. I know the prednisone is very dangerous and am hoping to go to a chiropractor I know soon to do an adjustment since I read how that can cure asthma and the one I\'ve gone to is really superb.

<description> Staff from Earth Clinic writes: "Inexpensive and always at hand, baking soda is an excellent alternative to a number of commercial cleaning and maintenance products. Conventional cleaners, drain cleaners, disinfectants, and deodorizers are full of chemicals harmful to the environment and dangerous to our own health, including concerns about childhood development, asthma at all ages, and increased risks for cancer.

Option 1: All-Purpose Cleaner
A quart of water
Four teaspoons of baking soda
1/2-cup vinegar
Mix and keep in a spray bottle.

It\'s a disinfectant for counters, a grease-cutter anywhere, good for windows, great for floors, and as clean and fresh as the new day.

Option 2: Drain Maintainer
Mix a cup of baking soda with a cup of vinegar, pour it down your kitchen sink each week, and it will keep your pipes free of clogs.

Option 3: Tape Remover
The glue left behind when you peel old tape off from a clean surface can be an awful headache, but a thick paste of baking soda and water, rubbed onto those bits of tape stuck to windows and solid walls, can loosen the glue and make it easy to wipe off.

Option 4: Rug Spot-Cleaner
Simply sprinkle baking soda on grease spots and let that sit for about an hour. Then gently scrub the spot with a damp sponge or brush and vacuum everything up.

You can also use baking soda as an overall carpet cleaner and deodorizer by mixing up:

1/2-cup of cornstarch
1/2-cup of baking soda

Sprinkle this over your carpets and let it sit overnight, then vacuum it up the next morning.

Option 5: Shower Door Cleaner
A bit of baking soda on a damp sponge is great for wiping down glass shower doors. Just rinse with warm water.

You can also mix:

1 cup of baking soda
1/2-cup of vinegar

Use the resulting paste to clean your tub and the shower door, cutting down on mold, mildew and soap scum.

Option 6: Jewelry Cleaner
Use a baking soda and hydrogen peroxide paste to cleanse the dirt from even your most delicate jewelry with little effort and great results.

You can also soak your jewelry overnight in a mixture of vinegar and water.

<description> Susan from Vancouver, Canada writes: "\"Bill from San Fernando, can you clarify this. What if I go to bed before 12 PM, when should I take the B/S since Ted\'s post does not recommend taken before 12 pm. Thanks Bill.

Per Ted\'s Post

Baking soda is ideally taken before bedtime, but also ideally after lunch one to two hours, and after dinner one hours. It is never to be taken before 12 pm or early morning, although it can be used as a toothpaste substitute for most fluoridated toothpastes. Ted\"\"

<description> Bill from San Fernando, Philippines writes: "I just wanted to amplify something that Ted from Bangkok mentioned in a recent post that I thought was useful advice. He said that he buys tablets in Thailand -- called sodamint -- that just contain sodium bicarbonate and mint. These are useful and convenient for digestion problems and are also very useful for alkalizing the blood in the same manner as Ted\'s baking soda powder and water remedy.

So I wondered whether they sold the same or similar tablets in the Philipines and I went to the pharmacist and found sodium bicarbonate tablets. It only cost me about about $1.00 for 100 tablets each containing 650 mgs of sodium bicarbonate. The other advantage of these sodium bicarbonate tablets is that they must also be food grade to be sold for human consumption.

Although baking soda, as the powder, is the better form (no caking agents, fillers, additives etc that are in tablets), the tablet form of BS is very convenient for people who have to work or people who travel alot etc, and is a useful method to help digestion as well as a useful way to alkalize the blood on a daily basis.

Tablets that only contain sodium bicarbonate and nothing else should be used -- and should contain no paracetamol, aspirin or any other drug in the tablet form.

<description> Captain Kirk from Hartsburg, Missouri writes: "Couldn't find a cheap source until I was helping a buddy get ready for his daughter's wedding. We were at his dad's vet supply warehouse picking up flowers and I noticed pallets of baking soda; 50 pound bags of it. He said oh sure just grab one. I threw it in the trunk and asked him how much and he said oh, 3, 4 dollars....

I looked the bag over carefully. The soda comes from a mine in Rifle, Colorado. The color and consistency is the same as A&amp;H and other brands I have seen.

It is used in veterinary medicine to mitigate rumin problems in animals. This is food grade, so I figure if it's good enough for goats and sheep and what have you, it's good enough for me and my laundry. The bag will likely last me a year.

<description>[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] Jordan from Imlay City, Mi writes: "I have eaten way too much sugar for too long. Coke, candy, takeout food during the day.. Beer, wine, or liquor with juice at night (i understand these are essentially sugar) Well for obvious reasons I have been feeling like.. Well.. Poop. It got to the point were I felt I needed an alcahoiic drink to feel better at night (essentially a sugar craving). Well the past couple days the alcoholic drink, far from making me feel any better as it has in the past, has made me feel much worse. I realized it's gotta be too much acid in my stomach from the unhealthy eating habits I developed mostly a result of just not having fresh healthy food in the house and plenty of delicious but very unhealthy snack foods, sugar foods, alcahol, and juices (often sugary).

The other night I was feeling terrible and decided to drink some baking soda (sodium bicarbonate food grade). It most certainly worked and amazingly so. However the quantities stated in this thread were far far far lower than the quantity I took (also many times in the past). I would estimate my dose at 8 tablespoons. Now don't get me wrong I'm not encouraging this dosage, cause one thing for sure is I would expect some kind of a blowout (lol). Not like a Super Sale where you get good deals on stuff, but the kind that may give you quite a stomachache followed by amazing relief (hopefully - I understand this could be potentially dangerous and I'm only telling a truthful experience) Well as good as it worked for me most of the times I've tried this, there was once when I woke up with very bad stomach pain which went away after the obvious need. I have only taken this remedy on occasion and realize too much of anything can be bad. I have a feeling that taking larger doses regularly would be a bad idea, but I have to say that personally I think a higher dose is for me when its really bad like the other night (perhaps 1 or 2 tablespoons - 8 was admittedly a bit too much)Is it possible that 1 or 2 tablespoons is beneficial in cases where the cause is certainly known (high level of acidity from sugar) as in my case. I am absolutely not a doctor though and I'm sure there will be people who say what I did was very dangerous and would be happy to hear your thoughts.

<description>[SIDE EFFECTS] Lorica from New Albany, Indiana writes: "I have had lots of problems with acididty and after research and a blood test discovered it was probably very much related to being gluten sensitive. I did not find that limes helped me a bit to be alkaline and even wheatgrass only helped somewhat. Baking soda has helped a lot... But I started having terrible cravings for milk products, even though I drank lots of milk. Guess what? Baking soda increases the need for calcium, it turns out. Whatever you use BS for, please be sure you get plenty of calcium!
