My dog has skin tumors, diagnosed with dermal hemangiosarcoma (and I'm pretty sure it's from his bad start in life, being emaciated and abused, then put in the pound, where he was fully vaccinated and subjected to neuter surgery while still in an emaciated state.) I've tried cannabis oil and applying turmeric paste (also have tried the Budwig diet on him, but he is exceedingly picky about what he will eat or take in his mouth, which is why I shoot liquid vitamins into his mouth directly. He has eaten some raw, but then changes his mind and wants something else. He never eats dog food - and mostly eats organic. He has not been vaccinated since he left the pound. The small red hemangiosarcoma tumors do tend to dry up and go away with application of the turmeric golden paste, but now he has a larger pink (not red) tumor on his sheath, and I'm concerned about that.
I'm wondering what is the BEST solution for that tumor. Surgery frightens me, as I had a bad experience with a dog getting surgery in the past.

My Dog has a bleeding tumour, its bleeding more than it was yesterday, is this normal? Jed is 13 years
I am using turmeric powder and giving Jed a teaspoon in the morning and a teaspoon in the evening with food. I read some of the site's feedback on this subject and it stated the tumour gets bigger to start with which it has done. I am just worried about the bleeding can you help. Thanks

I am sorry about your dog's tumor/bleeding!
Is it enough bleeding that you are concerned about blood loss or just that there is an increased discharge?
You might try giving some blackstrap or even chlorophyll if blood loss is a concern. How big is your dog?
I would give a 100 pound dog as much as a Tablespoon of blackstrap and several tablespoons of Chlorophyll each day to make up for blood loss.
If it is just draining/oozing, I would try to keep it clean, perhaps with povidone iodine. Turmeric can be used in wounds to prevent infection. So can honey.
If the bleeding is severe, cayenne pepper will stop bleeding. We have used it in wounds. It sounds like it would sting, but it really doesn't. But if you dog was inclined to lick at the wound, it would not be pleasant for him. Cayenne can be used internally also to stabilize bleeding but I have never given it to a dog. I am not sure how he would take it.
Keep us posted on Jed's progress! It is hard to see our beloved pets suffer...

Hi, thanks for your reply, Jed is now on the mend the blood loss was just a lot discharge from the tumour which has now stopped. The next day we noticed that the swelling had gone down a hell of a lot and Jed was brighter in himself. Yesterday there was very little discharge so we gave him a full body wash to make him feel better. This morning the tumour has gone down 75% which is amazing all the stuff inside the tumour is coming away and out so we will be now left with a hole were it was. The question is now what happens next does the body repair the damage in its own way? and do we just keep the wound clean?

Yes, I would keep the hole clean. It should repair itself over time. Honey, topically, may help the wound to heal more quickly if he wouldn't lick it all out.

Thank you for all your help it is much appreciated. The update on Jed. So far is I tried the turmeric and yes you guess it he licked it all out when I was not looking and made himself sick so went to plan B the Iodine solution you recomended stated not to put it in open wounds so I am a bit bothered about that. So now looking at plan C The Honey do we just pack out the tumour hole with honey? This is going to be fun lol.
The good news is as well all the swelling has gone down in his front leg and Paw just about back to normal and he is starting to take food again slowly as he wants it. Oh and is back to being alert when he hears a bag being opened thinking there is a chance of food. Which he was not doing two days ago.
So he is well on the way to getting better.
So the only thing now is this big hole to sort out? Do I just pack it out with honey?

Hi Mama to Many,
I have been down to the chemist today and stocked up with all stuff I need to pack and dress Jeds wound. We have bought the best honey money can buy its called Manuka Honey At 17.50 a small Jar US would cost about $23.00 but who cares about the cost and long as it fixes our Jed.
So we cleaned out his wound and it is perfect. We applied the honey and put respect dressings on to keep it clean and lick proof. Jed Is as happy as can be and been fast asleep for hours now he is one happy boy and feeling better for it. Just got to wait time out now for the magic to work.

Hi Mama to Many
Just a quick update on Jed. 15 days in now form the start of his treatment with turmeric on his tumour which has all but gone. The size of the wound from the start was very large and deep after the tumour burst open and all the nasty stuff came out and we were left with a big deep hole. Since applying the Manuka Honey on and in the hole it has all but closed up now there is no sign of the tumour it has gone and all the swelling has gone down too. The are that is left as of now has closed up by about 80% so not much more to go. Jed is back on his feet and 100% a happier dog. Thank you for all your help through this difficult time us and thank you to all at the Earth clinic website this has to be the best find I have ever made on the internet.

Hi everyone, I need some help again with my Lab Jed. A while ago he had a huge tumour just behind his shoulder on his front left leg. With some fantastic help from "Mama to Many" we got Jed back to health again and got rid of the tumor all that was left was a healed lump with scar tissue that was it.
All was good for three weeks and Now his front leg has got swollen up to his shoulder. We kept him on his tumeric but it just stays the same in size, it's slightly red and warm.
We put manuka honey on it and it cooled it down and we are giving him vitamin C tablets twice a day. But it is still swollen and he does not like to get up now and stand on it what can we do to get rid of the swelling. Many thanks in advance Paul and Jed.
p.s. Apart from the swelling he is fine he will be 13 on September 13 2017

Sounds like you are doing great stuff already for Jed.
Is it possibly that he has injured it or had a bee sting?
I would continue what you are doing and perhaps try hydrotherapy, which is just fancy for alternating warm and cool compresses. I have found this to work surprisingly well to reduce swelling.
Use two bowls of water, one warm and one cool. (Not hot and cold - too shocking.)
You start with a cool cloth and hold it on the inflammation for 30 seconds or so. Then switch to warm for 20 seconds or so. Continue back and forth for 7 applications total (4 cool - begin and end with cool.)
This can be done several times a day if he seems comfortable with it.
You could also try a bentonite clay poultice if you could get some clay. French Green clay would do as well.
I mix the clay with water to get a paste using non metal containers and utensils. I spread the clay onto a clean cloth and fold it into an envelope like thing and apply to the swelling. I usually put plastic wrap then cohesive tape to keep it on. (Sticks to itself but not to fur and is hard for animals to remove.) It does help with pain, also.

We found out the cause of Jeds swelling this morning, his tumour is back. We kept him on turmeric from last time we never stopped the twice a day even when he healed up. We now have added the coconut oil to the mix as well just one tablespoon a day with his food. It has come back slightly forward of were it was last time. We are thinking now of castor oil to see if that does any good we are far from giving up the fight. Apart from that Jed is fine. Do you have any other ideas as to what we can do to help him?

I think you are going to become an expert on treating this sort of thing!
What you are doing sounds good and yes, castor oil sounds like a good plan.
You might consider Essiac Tea if you could find some where you are. It has helped many people with tumors and also been used successfully with pets. It is a mild tasting herb blend that you make into a tea. It would probably be remedy to keep him on for life. Essiac contains burdock root, slippery elm, Sheep sorrel and turkey rhubarb.

It is a sad day today we lost Jed this morning at 5.00am. But I am certain that what we were giving him really helped he was not in any pain and just went peacefully he was two months off 13. My only regret was that we could have done more if we had know at the time what was out there to help fight his condition tumour /cancer. The only thing we should have done was give him a prescription dog food that is available that is 100% good for your do and cancer can not feed off it. I think it was called Hills Prescription diet N/D. If we had known about this at the start we could have killed the tumour stone dead from the roots out and if it can not feed it can not live. We did not know that everything in the regular dog foods cancer loves and feeds off. But everything else we used of this Fantasic website worked We just did not think about the feeding habits off the tumour. I hope this helps someone else. A big thankyou to Mama for Many. I actually took the trouble of looking up the meaning of his name and were it came from and it is Hebrew which I never would have guessed and jed means "Friend of God" which was quite apt for Jed as he was such a kind hearted dog.

Can I suggest something about turmeric for tumors. I have been using turmeric for years to great effect, I have extracted raw turmeric root and used alcohol to seep over several weeks to extract the essential oil or resin. But I discovered certain varieties of turmeric work better than others, the yellow turmeric seems to be more potent than the orange turmeric. Feel free to disagree, I can only report what I see and I feel its necessary to point this out, to those whom maybe interested. When I used orange organic grown turmeric over the last two years, effect was void. Previous years I used white/ yellow and orange in combination it was impressive particularly with tumours. My almost 11 yr old best friend was diagnosed with malignant Mamory Tumor on last Halloween morning. The Vet recommended to have it removed but could not come up with the $$ for the surgery. I have had her on golden paste since and have changed her diet. I give my ( cat sized) dog turmeric.. she wouldn't eat it if I mixed with food ... so I bought empty capsules and fill the small part with turmeric powder plug the end with steak I minced in the blender and rolled a tiny ( small as possible) ball of meat with the half capsule inside . If I make the meat balls small she gulps them down capsule and all -IF I make them bigger she has to chew and she discovers the capsule and spits it out .. so keep them small .. even if you have to do it twice to get the dose into her. I do this for all the supplements she is on for cancer .. so far tumor shrinking and she is doing well .. vet said she was dying but she's looking good in the last 2 weeks.

Essiac Tea! Yes I bought some but that is the one thing I am not sure HOW to administer? she hates the tea flavour wont drink it... I was so hopeful reading all the great successes here for our sweet "children". Thanks for the info.
I've been giving my beloved 15yo, 25 lb Puggle Turmeric for months and nothing. I first was giving 1/4-1/2 tsp Organic turmeric from the store for 6 weeks until I found out that was the wrong turmeric! I was to use the 95% kind. So have been giving him 2 (500mg) caps a day sprinkled in his food (along with Milk Thistle, and Superfood probiotic powder) and no change at all.
It hasn't grown but it is the size of an orange on his side for over 6 months. :( Everything is as good as before this benign fatty tumor (had vet test him). His appetite, water consumption, etc are all good, and he walks/jogs a couple miles/day with me.
I just can't understand why nothing is changing or shrinking. It's so sad.

Treating a beagle for tumors. Used Turmeric salve for a week. Then started feeding her turmeric in her food. She weighs 30 pounds and was giving her 700 mg once per day. Also 1/2 t apple cider vinegar. did this for about a week. Tumor split open and started to leak, and got bigger.
Now for the last two days the tumor seems to hurt her when we try to clean it up. Can not squeeze it because it hurts her to bad. Is a very large lump now. She has diarrhea is not eating, drinks a little water. Have tried rice water. All kinds of goodies, treats, chicken, turkey, beef. She normally eats everything in sight. She seems sick. I am not sure how to take care of the tumor now that it is leaking. HELP!

I got no feedback at all concerning my Beagle. With further research we found that we were giving her too much turmeric. A quarter spoonful is too much. You have to do it by milligrams. She is better now. We will start over with a greatly reduced amount of turmeric.

About 5 years ago I had just taken in a stray dog (Black mouth Cur) and within a few months she got a tiny bump (Tumor) on top of her front toe.
It got bigger and bigger and I tried soaking it in Epsom salt as a friend advised but it didn't work to get rid of it.
It grew a little more and looked like a beautiful gum ball with a swirl of nice colors! I remember a product I used on a real bad wound a neighbors dog had, a product called BLU KOTE by Dr. Naylor! It sprays on purple. It worked on my neighbors dog's wound so I figured I would try it on the tumor. And it worked! I would soap up and rinse the foot and tumor then spray the Blu Kote spray on the tumor.
The tumor eventually dried up and fell off leaving no scar. But I don't know what type tumor it was.

Thanks for posting the info about your dog's tumor. My cat has a growth of some sort on her chest and nothing has worked. It is in a spot inside her left front leg where a bandage doesn't work.
I just contacted Dr. Naylor and asked if Blue Kote be injested as cats lick all the time. I told him about Dr. Simoncini?? from Italy and that he says cancer is a fungus (Blue Kote is a fungicide according to the company) and he uses baking soda to coat the tumors and they vanish. Perhaps the fungicide property of Blue Kote is why your dogs tumor dried up.
Does the purple stain? My cat's underbelly is white.
Do you know if this product is natural or chemicals?

The Blu Kote stains but only for awhile.
I used to get some purple on my finger and the stain didn't last long. Sorry I don't know much else about this product. Only that it worked on the dog's tumor on her paw and you better ask if it can be used on a cat.
I notice that some products that are good for dogs and not good for cats. Blu Kote is great on wounds for dogs and other farm animals. My neighbor's males dogs got into a bad fight and one dog had a nasty wound on it's leg and my husband sprayed Blu Kote on the bad wound and it healed nicely.

Hi, so happy to read these success stories. I have one too. Doubted myself before now. My Rottie/shep/border collie cross had a horrible growth right at the tear duct on his eye and it was growing. I read about the castor oil and aloe combo to shrink tumours. But around the eye, I was terrified to do anything. Got brave and dabbed just a tiny bit plus started giving him tsp or so of turmeric with olive oil to eat. They like the taste of turmeric. The tumour shrunk to almost nothing. I have also noticed that my dog's tumour grows when he eats any food with wheat in it-so I read the labels on dog treats, only choosing ones made with rice. Makes a big difference.

Can you give the detail for the aloe vera and castor oil for tumors. How much of each? how long did it take? Is it applied externally?
I have not been able to apply enough of anything on her tumor and have not been able to cover with a bandage it due to where it is. I think the aloe and castor oil may have the consistency of a salve and be able to cover it up.

I have an older white lab that developed a tumor beside his genital area and he kept it inflamed by licking it. I started him on 1 teaspoon per feeding, twice a day, of turmeric on his food. He did not reject it at all, and the tumor has now shrunk and he no longer pays attention to it. It's not totally gone but it's definitely shrunk and no longer inflamed. Turmeric works. Hi my shepherd mix had a fatty tumor on her front leg. It grew quite large and then the skin started to split. I took her to the Vet and he said it would take 3 surgeries and about $2600 to remove but suggested I go home and research some remedies to get it to shrink. I found this site and began applying a turmeric paste to it and then gave her 2 times a day a teaspoon of turmeric and a teaspoon of black strap molasses in some wet food. In about 3 weeks the tumor started to oooze. It was in the evening so I just wrapped it up and let it drain. I brought her to the Vet. After examining it he said it had shrunk considerable and now was only one surgery and less than half the cost. He had me take her home and let it continue to drain. The next day she had her surgery and she is as good as new! It was amazing, I didn't think it was working but it did and it took awhile and yes it was gross when it was draining but certainly worth it.

I would like to thank all the writers here for your advice on reducing fatty tissue tumours in dogs. I started treatment on my 13 yrs old dog two and half weeks ago. I put turmeric in his food every time he ate and rubbed the tumour with castor/tumeric combination. The "size of a golfball" type tumour ruptured after enlarging and shrinking last week. I have been treating with anti-biotic and the castor oil/turmeric pack and wrapping it (i sit with dog for an hour each time because as soon as my back is turned, the bandage is off and he is licking it). The size of the tumour has decreased by 70% at least and seems to be regenerating skin and closing slowly. It looked really nasty but I cleaned it 3-4 times a day and applied anti-biotics. I am happy with what has happened so far and am very thankful for the advice as a I am a pensioner and vets, etc are just too expensive. My biggest problem is keeping him from taking the bandage off. He looks happier and is moving around better. My fingers are crossed that it will be nearly all gone and healed within a few more weeks.

Update: I have been using the turmeric and castor oil paste for nearly four weeks now. In the last day or so, I have added aloe vera to the paste. The tumour is open but no infection and is clean, no smell or weepiness. It looks as if the skin is re-growing and closing the "wound". I use equal parts of turmeric, castor oil and aloe vera in paste (1 teaspoon each) aloe vera is straight from garden and I open leaves and scrape out gel to mix in with the turmeric and castor oil. I couldn't be more happier with the results. EARTH CLINIC: is there any way to put up before and after photos to show people how effective this has been for my dog. And thank you Earth Clinic for this site, it has been invaluable.

To the Staff of Earth Clinic, I am sending these photos of the tumour that is on my dogs front leg and how it is healing after using turmeric, castor oil and aloe vera on it.
First Photo: taken after five days of putting turmeric in his food, it swelled up and then started to get soft and crinkle and blister.
Second Photo: taken after four weeks of treating the tumour. The "wound" was not cleaned so it has some grass on it however, once cleaned, mixture was applied and wrapped. there is no infection and it is closing slowly.

Personally, I think shaving the area would be ideal just because it would end up being so messy to have the oil in the coat all the time. It would make it easier to make sure you have gotten the skin covered well with the oil, too.

I have a 10 year old, 20lb terrier. She has had a benign fatty tumor just above her chest bone and below the collar line for several years and about 1/2 a golf ball in size. I have been giving her about 1/2 tsp of turmeric in her food every day for about 3 weeks. It has shrunk considerably I may up the dosage for the next few weeks to see if we can completely dissolve the tumor.

My 9 year old male boxer, 40 lbs, developed a tumor around his penis area. it has gotten bigger over the last week. I have taken him to two vets, who biopsyed him to see what kind of cancer it is. I have increased his dose of organic coconut oil and and have started giving him one teaspoon of tumeric for the last 4 days. Tumor is getting bigger, but I have been reading everyone's post that it swells before it starts shrinking. I hope this is the case.

At the end of May, I discovered a small lump on my dogs neck just below the ear. I watched it and in July she was scratching it and it had grown quite a bit. I took her to the Vet and they wanted to remove it and biopsy it to the tune of $600. And they couldn't give me any idea of what it was. My 13 y old dog, Jamie has had fatty tumors for several years, now. When he was eleven, the vet removed one at the "elbow" joint of his front leg but it has since grown back. He was dealing with it though, and the vet recommended doing nothing to the re-grown tumor, due to his advanced age and declining health.
Then about 6 weeks ago I noticed a different large, red, golf-ball growth in the same area. This was in addition to the re-grown tumor. The new growth looked like a water balloon.
That's when I started surfing the net looking for options. One night, I spent several hours reading about herbal medicine, and TCM/TCVM vs Western philosophies about cancer and tumors ... interesting stuff, but I just wanted to help my dog.
Also, as an aside, I noticed that Jamie's breath smelled a lot worse than usual ... (sort of sour.) He was in bad shape, and I was in the middle of a move.
There are "vets" out there selling their special blend of herbs and medicines ... but I wanted to "know" what I was giving my dog. So I was looking for something I could get from any herbal supply store.
Affter reading information here and elsewhere, I decided to try curcumin (which is a turmeric extract) It cost about $10/ bottle, over the internet and comes in capsule form. I take 1 capsule apart and sprinkle it over his food (I feed him twice a day).
After 3-4 days the big red tumor burst IT SMELLED AWFUL (sour like his breath) and it continued to leak for about a week. At first, the liquid that came out of the tumor was clear,and greasy. Later there was pus, but there was less and less each day.
By this time, we had moved, and Jamie was still moping around ... and I honestly did not know if he was in pain, or depressed about the move, or what. I decided to keep giving him 2 curcumin capsules a day (since it seemed to make the tumor go away), 1 with each meal, and I also cleaned the wound area with hydrogen peroxide, and kept the wound covered. Jamie did seem to be getting better, but I did not know if it was wishful thinking on my part ... so I took him to the vet a week later.
The vet said that the tumor had ulcerated, which was not good, and he had lots of tumors... but he did not recommend putting him down at this time. He said that this is just what happens to old dogs. He cleaned and shaved the area around the tumor, prescribed an antibiotic, wrapped the wound and sent us home (and charged $250).
It has been a month now, and Jamie has continued to improve. The (red)tumor has "dried up, there is no pus. He still limps a little (but he limped before). Also, the regrown tumor has shrunk ... he still has other tumors, though. I do not know if this is a "cure" ... but I do think that it has bought us some time.
I wanted to share this because I remember how frantic I was 6 weeks, when I was looking for information that could help.

Me and my family have had the same 'tumor' problem with pets,,check your dog food for soy protein,,it is poison to our pets and will kill them and you. google search 'toxic soy report' you will be shocked at the news for people and pets.

I wanted to give an update:
Jamie passed away on 9/26 (he was euthanized). During the summer, the tumor on his front leg, and the one between his toes had cleared up so he wasn't limping on the front legs anymore, but then his back legs started to drag more as he walked. Also, he gradually lost his appetite, and everything slowly worsened over the summer. The vet had said (in the spring)that the tumors had spread, and I think that this was the cancer just taking its course. Nevertheless, his last few weeks of life were full. As I said earlier, I thought that the tumeric was not going to be a "cure" but it would buy us time, and I think that is what happened. I honestly believe that the vet had written him off back in May. We got to spend the whole summer together and the past few weeks we got to visit many places "for the last time". I would like to thank the people who created this website and those who posted information to this board.

Hi Dogs that are fixed & 6 years old just get fat cysts or tumors, whatever U want to call them. Sometimes they pop up over nite. So Ur NOT necessarily doing anything wrong--Its just part of nature.
My ShihTzu had a fat cyst the size of a pea above his ear... it looked gross.
This sounds mean, but IT DID NOT HURT MY DOG.. OTHERWISE HE WOULD'VE YELPED & MOVED HIS HEAD AWAY FAST... He let's me know immediately if he's ever unhappy... He's Not shy... Anyway, I stuck a sewing pin in the cyst... To see if maybe it was sebacious... I then squeezed it... nothing came out, so I assumed it was a solid fat mass.
I put a Curcumin (Tumeric Root) capsule I got at the health food store in a pill pocket. He ate it & ate the 1 for his sister--she refused to eat it. I smelt the capsule & couldn't smell anything, but U know how sensitive dogs noses are.
Then 2 weeks later I gave him another...
1 week later I noticed a crust on the (cyst) bump, so I scraped it off with my finger nail & smelt it... Really Grose Smelling! I then squeezed the cyst from the base--VERY IMPORTANT.. I KNOW A MAN WHO LET THE BARBER SQUEEZE A ZIT ON HIS FOREHEAD... BUT HE DIDN'T GET ALL THE SEBUM OUT... SOME WENT BACK IN THE BLOOD STREAM & HE DIED OF AN ANURISM... SO HAVE UR VET DO THIS IF U THINK SOMETHING BAD MIGHT HAPPEN..
Anyway, it may have gotten slightly bigger after I started giving him the curcumin, but nothing really noticable & there was no oozing & grose open wound like the others said... When I squeezed it... 4... What looked like flat empty sebacious cysts came out... They stunk... There was about 1/4 of the bump/cyst left & no more would come out & he didn't want me to touch it anymore... He was Not in pain, but he was just getting annoyed with me messing with it, so I left it alone... The stretched skin eventually went back to normal & the cyst was totally gone in 2 weeks. Its been 1 month & I'm sure its not coming back.
This is a way more natural & cheaper solution... Than spending $400 like my friend just did to get a sebacious cyst cut off her cocker spaniel's back. From what I read here... they also come back after an operation, whereas, with the Tumeric/Curcumin they don't.
