[SIDE EFFECTS] Patti from Frazee, Mn writes: "My Daisy, my 7 year old doberman pinscher, was very active and healthy running & jumping, then May 30, 2009 she woke up paralyzed on the rear end. On April 20, 2009 she was vacinated for rabies, DHLPP plus Lyme and deworm pyrantel pamoate. She was so very sick. She drank some water and ate very little on May 30. My vet came over on May 30 and gave her a steroid shot and an inflammation shot, took her blood, put frontline on her to kill any infected ticks and said she may have tick disease, so it wait and see how she would do in the next week(the blood he didn't test, after I told him too because her blood went bad, his wife said) She had no control over her bowels, etc. The next day she was completely paralyzed. Then the next day she went back to weakness and rear end paralyzed. For the next two weeks she ate and drank some and I lifted her rear end and gave her a little exercise and took her outside to go to the bathroom. She would drag her rearend around outside after for a little exercise. After two weeks she wasn't any better so I took her to a vet who does accupunture on June 16, 2009. He took xrays, no injury, urine test. After he treated her with accupunture she started trying to walk two days later. She was on Doxycycline for 30 days and had 6 accupunture treatments, from June to October. After the second accupunture treatment she was starting to walk, but wobbly and after the 4 I didn't have to hold her rear end up anymore!! So with my nursing and therapy care I gave my best friend, today, March 18, 2010, she is a miracle, she is running and trying to jump again, but still has to really concentrate at doing certain tasks.

My accupunture vet states the vaccinations could have caused this nervous/neurological system disease to my Daisy, my doberman!

PLEASE advise any advice or opinion you may have to me ASAP! THANKS.

Colleen from Westfield, Nj writes: "My 7yr old Golden Retriever was given her shots recently and that evening was not looking or acting like her normal self. Within 2 days started vomiting. The vet treated her for pancreatitis after blood work came back indicating amylase was off. After 1 month my dog began twitching and having muscle spasms. Her joints started giving out. SHe could not climb the stairs without assistance. The vet said the dog was reacting as if she was poisoned. The only thing that could have poisoned her was the vaccinations since this pet is not near anything else that could poison her. She is a housepet that does not go anywhere without me, yet the vet will not even consider the poisoning could have been caused by the vaccinations. This is very frustrating as my dog almost died. I will never have my pet vaccinated again and will find a new alternative medicine vet. Luckily my pet was healthy enough to make if through this ordeal and is now back to her old self. To add insult to injury, I paid this vet over $2000.00 after the vaccinations to treat the problem most likely caused by the vaccinations!"

[SIDE EFFECTS] Sue from Lenham, Kent, England writes: "Vaccination Side Effects

Our beautiful and well loved Doberman, Benson, had his annual health check and booster (Vanguard) on 11th September 2009 and after two weeks developed lumps which turned out to be Lymphoma. We sadly put him to sleep in January 2010. There was no sign of any lumps prior to his booster and he was an active healthy dog prior to this and after reading articles about annual vaccinations and their side effects it saddens us even further that the booster may have triggered the illness. We have therefore decided that we will not continue with annual boosters for our other dog.

[WARNING!] Bob from PA, USA writes: "Here is Rusty's story .

On October the 5th 2009 I took my 6 year old Airedale to my regular vet . I had received a post card reminding me that Rusty was due for his "so-called" necessary annual distemper/parvo vaccination. Within less than one week after the vaccination, Rusty showed signs of a form of neurological twitch as one might call it. He would twitch or quiver at sounds; his chest shook. I called the vet who said to give him a baby aspirin; maybe he injured himself playing is what the vet indicated. This did not sound right to me, but after all I was following the "so called"expertise of a 30 year practicing vet. The nervous twitching seemed to subside, however, within the next week I felt that Rusty had lost weight. He was also not eating well. I called the vet immediately and took Rusty to his office. He had a fever of 103.4 and had gone from 68 pounds to 63 pounds in that time period. Blood was drawn and sent out that day for testing. The following day I got a call from the vet; he said Rusty had Lymes disease and that his creatine level was 8.4 . He said Rusty was having acute renal failure. He blamed me and said that if Rusty had been given a Lymes disease vaccination at age one, this would not have happened. ( I DID have him vaccinated for the next 4 years (following the first year) on the recommendation of the vet). I asked what could be done for Rusty; I was told nothing could be done to save his life. The vet recommended subcutaneous fluids, but after 3 days of this painful procedure, Rusty showed no signs of improvement in eating or his overall looks. In our hearts, my wife and I felt the diagnosis was probably correct, even though we prayed and hoped that there might be a chance to save him. We asked the vet where we could take Rusty to try and save his life, and after getting quite a negative response, we were finally referred to a specialty hospital in Maryland. Within two days we had an appointment and took him there on Saturday, October 24. The Veterinarian who met with us did not appear to have a positive outlook, but these specialists were willing to try anything to save him.

After the first day of IV treatment, antibiotics and other medicines administered, his creatine level dropped to 5.8 but over a period of the next three days it did not improve. We had to make the heart wrenching decision to have euthanasia, October 28. We spent time with him on this last day, cradling him in our arms, until we felt the time had come to say our final goodbye to our beloved friend. The female Veterinarian who did the euthanasia spoke with me in detail afterwards. She went over all the tests that had been performed on Rusty to help them determine what had possibly caused this renal failure. She said that every test known to them had been conducted, including the Titer test. The conclusion was...He did not have and most probably never did have Lymes disease; he did not have Leptospirosis; nor had he ingested anything that was considered a poisonous agent. Their final conclusion was that they could not determine a definitive cause of renal failure. Sometimes though, I believe the vets in Maryland were somewhat mystified as to what happened; other times I believe they may have known the cause, however due to possible litigation, they were reluctant to speak up.

I will always admire the vet at the hospital. She took the time to relay all the information about what they did to try to determine the cause. As we were getting ready to leave and take Rusty back to our hometown to a vet, different from the regular vet, to have him cremated, she pulled me aside and said.."if we ever get another Airedale, NEVER allow him to get a Lymes Disease vaccination". She has two dogs and never gives them that vaccination. She said there is entirely too much negative data concerning the results of annual Lymes vaccinations. She said the best way to handle this is to have an annual blood test to determine your dog's overall health. She said treating Lymes disease, if present, is easier than trying to save a life after repeated annual Lymes vaccinations. She gave me a hug and she cried with me. She was so genuine and caring. She then said, if you really want to know what happened to Rusty, have his kidneys removed for necropsy. I asked the vet, who would cremate him, to do so. The kidneys were sent out for testing and here are the results.

The Veterinarian Pathologist who conducted the study listed in his report... that over a period of approximately several years Rusty's kidneys showed signs of chronic kidney failure due to possible Lymes disease. ?? So, you may ask, if the specialist at the hospital did all the necessary tests and they concluded he DID NOT have Lymes disease, nor did they see any signs that he ever did, then what caused this chronic kidney disease and eventual acute kidney failure and why are there disparaging conclusions.

So now we come to the bottom line. What happened! Maybe I will never be told the truth, but after spending dozens of hours on the phone with leading specialists concerning over vaccinations and vaccinosis and communicating with many people like you who are reading my story and who have a sad story like ours, I know that I am not alone in this horrible experience. I have spent hundreds of hours on the internet researching kidney failure and vaccines. My wife and I spent over $8,000 to try and save Rusty's life and we lost him because we were not informed; we were not told the truth about vaccines and their side effects from our vet. From what I have been told, and through my own research, Rusty did experience acute renal failure, on top of chronic kidney disease which had been occurring over the years from the annual distemper/parvo and lymes disease vaccines. I am now informed for the future; it is far too sad though that I did not know the truth before hand so that this tragedy did not have to happen to Rusty.

I wish to say that I do not believe all veterinarians in this country are money hungry and vaccinate just for profit. I do believe there are many fine and reputable practicing vets who are more concerned with the overall health and well being of our beloved pets. Sadly, I used a vet, who obviously did not read the American Veterinarian Associations recommendations, set forth in 1994, to stop vaccinating every year for distemper/parvo and to follow the new guidelines set within the past several years, to stop administering Lymes vaccinations.

I will always live with those horrible words from that original vet who said this was my fault . I know the day will come when he will see justice in front of a greater power.

I will always admire the vets who tried to save his life; they all reassured me this was never my fault.

I will always be ever thankful to my wife who felt the same pain I did during this ordeal, and sadly, after four and a half months, her tears for Rusty are ever present. She loves him so dearly as I do. The kind of love and friendship we shared with Rusty will never stray from our minds or hearts.

We now have a new boy living with us. He is an Airedale puppy, who was graciously allowed to be in our Family, by a most wonderful and truly fantastic lady in Michigan who breeds and shows Airedales. As difficult as it is to find Airedales of good stock and finding a breeder who is dedicated to her charges, her heart went out to us and she sold us one of her pups which she was going to keep for herself. She is the most magnificent person in our lives and we love her for her gift.

In truth and loving memory and tribute to our Rusty, I will close with these words.....

If you love your cat, your dog, or any pet that ever requires vaccinations, do what I am going to do. ALWAYS have a complete blood test and urinalysis done before ever getting any vaccinations done. Know what your pet's health condition is FIRST before ever placing your pet at risk for any horror that could be waiting.
THEN make sure you get a Titer test done so you know your pet's level of immunity or possible resistance to that which you may be getting ready to vaccinate for.

You may question this and say, WHY! That will cost quite a few dollars. YES , it will, however, the alternative is spending thousands of dollars like I did to save your friend who may be sick or dying from unnecessary vaccination related diseases. Through the blood test, urinalysis and Titer, you will know where your pet's health stands in it's present ability to fight off these diseases that vets seem to indicate are so rampant in this country. But are they really rampant?

Have these tests done so that you may be able to keep your pet for many, many years with happiness and joy and in good health.

For our Beloved Rusty and our new Boy

Thank You for reading my story .

Bob

[SIDE EFFECTS] Lisac from Plainfield, Illinois writes: "I took my senior cat Riley in for routine exam and vaccinations. He is 15 yrs old and had not been vaccinated in a few yrs. After bringing him home, he seemed a little off (sleeping, lethargic, uninterested in play, food, treats). This has happened to my cats previously, but they always come around in a day or so. This time, Riley continued to be lethargic and would stare at the floor. He would also itch and lick his paws. His appetite did come back. A few days later, I noticed that he fell to one side in my kitchen. I picked him up and sat on the couch. In a few minutes, he seemed to get his bearings and was ok. He had a few more "episodes" over the next several days. I called the vet because I thought it may be an adverse reaction to the rabies vaccine. My husband thought I was overreacting, so I tried not to make too much of it. Thought Riley would get better on his own. Two weeks after the vaccination he was not getting any better so I took him back to the vet. A CBC was done and found that Riley is now slightly anemic (his blood work before the shot was perfectly fine) . Vet feels Riley's immune system may be haywire causing an auto-immune issue (something like IMHA). Vet put him on prednisone tabs to counteract the symptoms. Riley seems to be getting better, no stumbling or balance issues for two days now. He has continued to itch like crazy and licks his paws often. This is something that he did not do before the vaccine. I have another cat at home and will never get her vaccinated after seeing what it caused with my Riley. Have you heard of this before? Do you know what I can do to treat the itching and paw licking or is this a condition Riley may have for the rest of his life."

My dog had surgery last week for a tumor and the report came back today. She had an aggressive sarcoma. It is on her shoulder. The vet wanted to know if she'd ever been vaccinated there. Yes, the last time she was vaccinated, that's where the vet did it. This is the only time a vet has ever vaccinated one of my dogs on the shoulder, and it will be the last.

The vet was pretty certain that he had removed it all, but let's face it, it can and probably will come back.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Elaine from Greencastle, Pa writes: "Deadly Vaccinations

It's been 2 1/2 years, but I still can not get over what happened to my precious cats. Here's my story.

On the evening of August 20, 2007 I took two of my cats in for their yearly FVRCP booster and Feline Leukemia booster. Within an hour after we returned home Rebel began vomitting and having breathing difficulties, and Levi began digging at himself and biting his paws. We called the after hours service as by this time the office was closed. The vet blew us off stating that it was the cats' nerves. Things were not better an hour or so later so we again called the vet and this time he agreed to see us. Upon seeing the two of them he agreed they were having some type of allergic reaction. He gave them both an antihistamine shot and steroid shot and sent us home with steroid pills to give them in the morning.

Levi got better within an hour or so of returning home, but Rebel did not. He vomitted and cried all night and labored for breath. I called the vet on the morning of August 21,2007 and they had me bring him in. The vet just said that it was taking longer to wear off and that they would keep him until evening and see how he was. Unfortunately, by evening he was no better. I asked if it could have been a bad batch of vaccines and was assured no because the vaccines were from highly reputable companies. The vet at this point also stated that something was affecting his nervous system and that this wasn't a typical vaccine reaction. He assured us that he would call the vaccine companies.

On the morning of August 22, 2007 I called to see how Rebel was doing he was rapidly declining. They just now had decided to give him IV fluids and do blood work. We could not understand why the delay in treatment. It seemed like it was a wait and see situation. I called back a few hours later and was told that he was in liver and kidney failure. The test also revealed that the phosphorous levels in his kidneys were high and that this could not have happened in such a short amount of time. The vet more or less insinuated that he was already sick before he received the vaccine, but that did not explain Levi's reaction. I even stated this to him again he just said he wasn't really sure.

After this phone conversation, I immediately left work and went to be with Rebel. When I got there he was just laying in the cage convulsing in pain and crying. His once bright pink tongue was now almost black. I knew then that he wasn't going to make it so I called my boyfriend to leave work. I couldn't even hold him one last time, even that hurt him too much.

At 12:45 P.M., Rebel began throwing up so I told my boyfriend to turn his head so he wouldn't choke. He stopped breathing, I ran out to get someone, who proceeded to take her good old time getting to him. I don't why she even bothered because all she did was put her hand on him and say yes there is no heartbeat. I know it was probably too late but a little effort may have been nice. She couldn't even bring herself to say she was sorry for our loss.

The office staff then called our vet because he was not even there when he died he was out on a farm call. Once he arrived, he half-heartedly apologized and asked if could do an autopsy. He then stated that he would call the vaccine company which he was supposed to have done the day before!

He did contact me that night by phone to tell me that he had done the initial part of the autopsy and that Rebel's kidneys were small, the liver was mottled, and that he had large amounts of blood in his colon which apparently is due to the immune system going into overdrive and causing the body to over clot blood. We have not heard from his since and don't know that we will. He was supposed to send samples from Rebel away for pathology tests but we were not even told how long it would take and in our state of grief and shock we didn't think to ask. We did finally get the results of the autopsy, several months later I might aid. The cause of death heart failure. I stated to the vet, that you mean the reaction caused his whole body and heart to shut down. All he could say was yes more or less.

I am blaming the vaccine companies for pushing these vaccines on animals that don't really need them and the veteranarians for not explaining the risks. I found much of this out too late through my own research. Rebel never went outside and neither was Levi so their risk to anything was minimal. I also can't understand why vets are giving more than one shot at a time. They would often say, "Well that way you only have to bring them one time". I thought I was giving them the best care possible, little did I know that it would kill one of them.

Levi seems to have fully recovered but I am concerned that there could be long term problems. My cats will no longer be receiving these booster shots. I will only do what is required by law, which in this state is a rabies shot every three years. We will also no longer use this vet or any of the other vets at their office because we really do not feel that Rebel received adequate care. Perhaps if the vet would have seen us the first time we called for help and not an hour and a half later, maybe it would have made a difference.

I apologize for the length of this e-mail. I tried to keep it as brief as possible without leaving out too much detail. Thank you for taking up this cause. Many people do not understand the bond with a pet and can not comprehend what someones goes through in situations like this.

Thank You,

Still Grieving in PA

He was vaccinated at that time and just received his boosters on Jan. 20. He became lethargic and feverish that evening (he was perfectly healthy beforehand). He also would not eat or drink and was trembling. He continued like that so we took him back to the vet the next day and they gave him an injection to bring the fever down, just said it was probably the vaccine and sent us home with him. Now, 4 days later he is not much better, his eyes are runny and when he barks he sounds different. I am trying to find a natural remedy for him online. Suggestions would be great because I have a feeling something is really not right."

[SIDE EFFECTS] Suzanne from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada writes: "Side Effect from Vaccination

My one year old standard dapple dachshund received his vaccinations this morning (DHPP, rabies and Bordetella). Seven hours later he had an allergic reaction, his mouth and eyes were swelling up. I had to take him back to the vet where they gave him a shot of steroid and antihistamine.

He's had these shots before and never reacted, but this time he did.

Vet uses Pfizer.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Erica from Boston, Ma writes: "Side effects from rabies vaccine

My 2 yr old shih tzu got his second rabies vaccine along with his distemper. We never had any problems last year when he got his 1st set of shots. This time within 1 week he was shaking all over and he had a lump at the injection site. It's been 3 months and he is still shaking. He has never been the same since that day. When I took him back to the vet she said he was fine. So, I am now going for a 2nd opinion. This is horrible. I was only trying to keep my dog safe.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Mary Lou from Kenosha, Wisconsin Usa writes: "My little terrier got her distemper shot this week and the day after she could hardly make it up and down the stairs, and was generally lethargic, not eager to go outdoors as usual, and slow to eat her from her dish. Is this an expected side effect or something really serious?"

[SIDE EFFECTS] Amanda Carlin from Warrington, Cheshire, Uk writes: "I took my 1 year old Border Terrier to the Vets for his 1 Year booster injection, but within a few hours he developed Diarreah. The next day I rang the vets and they said this wasn't a side effect of the booster and to just starve him for 24hrs to see how he goes. Later that day he still had diarreah but this time it had blood in it, and all the next day too. I am going to take him back to the vets tomorrow but it just seems strange that he had his booster and is now very ill, he hasn't been ill all year so it can't just be a coincidence can it ??"

[SIDE EFFECTS] Dori from Powhatan, Va writes: "Pet vaccination reactions

I have 2 English bulldog/Australian shepherd mix dogs. They are from the same litter and are about 2 years old. They recently had their first vaccinations at a vets office. Prior to this the farmer who had them used the 7 in one vaccination shot from tractor supply. She didn't mention any reaction to that. But they had rabies 3 yr. vac. w/out incident. The distemper shot both reacted to with not eating for a week and being very lethargic. We even tempted them with eggs and they didn't want to eat those either. Now they seem fine.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Sharonabath from Bath, Pa writes: "Here is my story, I hope it helps another sweet animal.

I was given a 10 week old Rottweiler puppy for XMas.He was HEALTHY & HAPPY for the 11 days we had him. On his 12 week b-day, we took him to the vet for his check-up and the vet proceeded to give him: Rabies, Lymes and Bordatella shots (please note that the nurse questioned the doctor giving 3 shots and not 2 and his response was"he is a big boy, 3 is fine" - he was 15 pds!! Got home and puppy acting/eating fine until 10 hours AFTER the shots when he started having a seizure (foaming at mouth, VERY vocal, body out of control and thrashing, deficated and urinated). Called vet and took him in, only after 2nd seizure did we make it (same type seizure "violent". Vet did blood work and tested for parasite and gave me 0.7cc valium to bring home with me in the event he had another seizure (give him valium and go to vet ER hospital) PLEASE NOTE MY VET DID WRITE ON PAPERWORK: vx induced? (this tells me he knows it was!)

Went to ER on New Years Day at 2:20am in morning as puppy had 3rd seizure. Vet did more testing (ammonia levels etc) In the morning vet called at 8:00am to tell me puppy had 4th seizure and it was the worst he has seen (same as he had been having at home)- said "prognosis not good". Put puppy on anti-seizure meds and said to call later/ Went to visit puppy New Years Day around 4:00pm and he was great, happy to see me, walking, licking & kissing me and just looked normal (besides his cath in his arm).Came home and called hospital around 9:00pm to speak to vet who told me I should put puppy to sleep!!!!!! Devastated I headed to hospital and while in route - puppy had 5th seizure (while on seizure meds). Ended up putting puppy to sleep :0(

NOW...3 vets, the vaccinations companies and the breeder are ALL fighting to "clear" their names. Fighting over WHO should do autopsy (we did NOT requst autopsy but breeders vet said that my vet POISONED puppy with these shots). Puppy is on way to cornell university so they can autopsy and find out WHAT happend to this beautiful babay boy who never had a chance to live. My heart is broken into a million pieces as I feel I did not protect my friend from these shots. (I also have an autistic son who got MMR shot and days later was COVERED in Measles - 2 months later, all his words GONE and diagnosed Autistic shortly thereafter. I HATE vaccinations and although i now some are neccesary, I do not feel they are "one size fits all". There should be better vaccination schedules (for children and animals) and their health should be taken into consideration - not everyone can have the same shots at the same time! I am going to fight this terrible tragedy until SOMEONE takes the blame. the vaccinations company is VERY concerned, as well as the vets (only concerned they may get into trouble, of course). We are hiring a lawyer to help fight this battle (not for the money we spent - $2500.00 in 32 hours) but for this puppies life that was taken away from him, way to soon. Someone is going to be put to blame and fortunatly, the 3 vets have all mentioned "vx induced" as the cause of his downfall. The one vet is SURE he was poisend and so, having these vets AGAINST eachother, will only help me get the answer I need. WHO DID THIS to him?? The VET by giving him wasy to many shots at once? The vaccination company having a "bad bach"?? OR the Breeders vet who sold us a puppy who maybe had some underlying health issue? All I can say is that they told me "THIS PUPPY WILL NEVER AGAIN GET A VACCINATION - if he makes it, he will be EXEMPT" (what does that tell us?) I hope you all have great luck with your furry friends and again, if I could "re-do" this time of events, I would have more cautiously looked into the vaccinations and INSISTED he be put on a schedule that I thought safer for him. best of luck to you all!!

[SIDE EFFECTS] Jason from Concord, Nh writes: "Hi,

My 18 month old Doberman Pinscher received six vaccines from the vet (who was only supposed to give two). That was on November 10th, since then he's been having grand mal seizures sometimes more than one a day. He's also become more aggressive, backs away, and has constent relestness. We've been trying to treat him according to the treatment vaccinosis by Dr. Dodds. Basically, my dog now suffers from major illnesses that we still cant control, all caused by vaccines. Its heartbreaking to watch and financially draining, but we do everything we can for our loved friends. I just want to express my concern to others to only due what your pet needs for vaccines, not what most vets tell you they need. Do your research and save your pets life."

I have had several puppies die over the years after getting their 1st puppy vaccine at the age of 4- 6 weeks. I'm currently watching one (maltese) fade away as I type this. The breeds have been Maltese, cockers, shih tzu's and poodles.
