[SIDE EFFECTS] Steph from Elizabethtown, Nc writes: "I took my dog to the vet 2 weeks ago to get his yearly rabies shots. He was fine the first two days and on the third day something changed. He is not the same dog. He turns viscious in an instant, is cowering in the corner growling to himself. Urinating in the house then going into these fits of shaking uncontrollably. I called the vet and they said there is no side effects because it is not live and to give him benadryl. This is my companion and I do not want to put him down but that might be the next option. I do not know if it is a rabies shot or if he is just going mad, but he is only two years old.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Laura from Lees Summit, Mo writes: "My dog Xander had a bad reaction to his yearly rabies and distemper vaccination. He is a German Short-hair Pointer, 11 years old, 66 pounds. He has been treated for several years for hip dysplasia, arthritis and urinary incontinence. This is the first time he had a bad reaction to rabies and distemper vaccinations. He got the shots in the morning. For the rest of the day and evening he would not walk without assistance and would not eat the food he loves in which I put his medicines. He lay down all day and night and held his head at an unusual angle. We thought he was going to die. The following day he seemed back to normal and we are grateful for that. In the future, we won't repeat these vaccinations for this particular indoor dog.

[DEATH REPORTED] Melinda from Medford, Oklahoma, Usa writes: "My ten year old great pyrenese had a fantastic personality. She always bounced around when we came home like a big ole puppy. She was very healthy except for an ear infection, we took her to the vet and was asked if we wanted her to have a rabies vaccine, she hadn't had one in years. No one told us of the possible side effects. A week later she started limping on her right side and was having a large amount of uterine bleeding. Her appetite went downhill and she always had a great appetite, never showed any signs of infection or arthritis. The vet said she was badly dehydrated and had an invetro infection. They operated to remove her female parts. She never walked again, the vet said she seemed to have some neurological problems. At home she couldn't stand falling on her face, no control of her hind legs. She died in my arms three weeks after the rabies vaccine. My heart is broken, I really love her she was like my own little polar bear and my life will never be the same. I have since read up on the side effects of the vaccine and I know this is what killed her.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Pamela from Warrenton, Va writes: "I had my 11 year old dog vaccinated for Lyme's disease and 24 hours later, she is is lame. The vaccine was recommended by my vet, so I thought it was safe. Macy had Lyme's 3 years ago (which I told the vet) and was treated with antibiotics -- and has had no symptoms until now. I took her back to the vet today and they claim it's arthritis. I will get her on antibiotics tomorrow morning -- please give me some feedback on this vaccination. Thank you.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Deirdre from North Attleboro, Ma writes: "I have an indoor 3 yr. Old Burmese cat. He had his yearly vaccines including Rabies on 12/8/11. He seemed ok for a couple of days and then his appetite when downhill and his spark was gone... He stopped stalking the other cats and acting like the head honcho (His normal behavior). I observed him for a while, hoping things would change and fed him whatever I could get him to eat; chicken, tuna (I usually give him Innova Reduced Fat can in the a.m. And same thing at night, but the dry formula)... He never has trouble with meal time. He was drinking his water, but he still was not his usual spunky self. My vet was on vacation so I brought him to a new vet.(12/21/11)..he checked him out and said he appears fine, but he did have a 1 lb weight loss (in just 2 weeks! ... Maybe a scale difference?) He did observe what appeared to probably be a scratch above his eye(from one of my other kitties), he syringed a sample of the fluid and found nothing. I have the same concerns and bring him back on 12/21/11 the Dr. Does a full senior blood profile (including thyroid, just to cover ALL the bases. ) He also does a urine test.... He finds nothing at all. It is now 12/30/11 and I notice another spot of hair loss over his other eye.... Definitely not a scratch, completely bald, but with little prick marks on the skin??? My cat is not scratching constantly and is not being attacked by the other kitties. His appetite is still the same... I may get one meal of chicken or tuna into him a day and he will only eat off the floor and not out of his dish. He is NOT himself, but I am managing to keep him roughly fed & hydrated. It is now 1/1/12 the Vet is closed and I will be calling him first thing in the a.m. Do any of these combined symptoms sound familiar to anyone? I hope my cat is not getting Alopecia from having been to the Vet 3 times in the last month and getting blood & urine tests :-( I am suffering as long as my lil guy is suffering... Any advice would be welcomed, thanks!

[SIDE EFFECTS] Jane from Yucca Valley, Ca writes: "Our seven year old GSD had his three-year rabies vaccination (Pfizer Animal Health) and within four days started vomitting, having diarrhea throughout the night, and stopped eating. This lasted for three days (over Christmas unfortunately) until we were able to see the vet who prescribed Metociopramide and Metronidazole. He is now eating again and the symptoms have subsided.

Also since the vaccination he has been lame in his hind leg where he was injected and his energy has been low, partly due no doubt to being sick.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Cosmo685 from Bridgewater, Nj writes: "Just wanted to let people know Pfizer doesn't stand up and do the right thing when one of their vaccines cause adverse side effects. A multi-million dollar company can't reimburse a few hundered dollars in vet bills due to an adverse effect from thier Bordetella vaccine. They also only look into reactions if they get a substantial number - they don't review the data on a regular basis. I had a perfectly healthy dog prior to the vaccine but after he had a reaction which necessitated more vet visits. To this day, months later, he isn't the same dog.

Cahira from Mason City, Iowa writes: "I would like to forward some of my education to you about yearly shots for pets. A dog or cat does not even need any shots after a year old. It is all part of the big pharma money game. It is something to think about, that if a pet needs these booster shots every 1 or 3 years either a) the shots are poor quality and aren't up to standards or b) it is for the money they bring every day of the year. Until the rest of the nation gets this education about their pets there are other options for the shots. Isn't it nice to know that big pharma has even pulled our pets into their game. I have been researching this for years. If anyone would like to contact me about what I know please feel free.

She was diagnosed with Lymphoma in Sept. of 2011 and passed away in Dec. of 2011. I believe that she should not have received these vaccines especially after a surgery that she had the same day as the vaccines were given. She was on a grain free dog food along with fresh meat and veggies and not subjected to any pesticides. I think that her immune system was not able to handle all of the toxins that was given to her that day. She was 4 1/2 years old.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Sue from Gales Ferry, Ct, Usa writes: "My Yorkshire terrier gets very lethargic, stops eating/drinking and cries in pain when picked up after vaccinations. The most recent being the Leptovirus vaccine. I give her water through a syringe and keep her comfortable until it passes, usually up to three days. At first I thought she had injured herself on the edge of the storm door when she went out but soon realized she gets a big lump near injection site after the two or three days (this is a week later) which has scabs or abrasions on the skins surface causing a big mat of fur. She licks it and opens it up. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow as I remember this same thing happening before and as I said, I thought it was an injury. She now acts fine but has this wound.

[DEATH REPORTED] Debbie from Merced, Ca writes: "I just recently changed the brand of puppy shots that I used, at the advice of a representative from Revival Animal Health, where I have ordered all my vaccines for the past 11 years. The vaccines were on sale, so she advised they were very good and would save me some money. I vaccinated 8 puppies with the new Solo Jec 5 Plus, manufactured by Boehringer-Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. , all of which developed parvo and died. Then it spread to 7 more puppies that were too young to vaccinate, and I lost them as well. My vet tested with the Idexx Snap Parvo test and it was positive for parvo. I had other puppies that were vaccinated with another vaccine, that are fine and did not develop parvo, so I know it was this particular vaccine. The company that I ordered from (Revival Animal Health) denies having any knowledge of this particular vaccine causing problems for anyone else, and were just plain nasty to me when I called them for a refund after they received the remaining product back. I don't know if we're supposed to use name brands or company names on a site like this, but I certainly don't want anyone else to have to go through the nightmare that I have been through for the last three weeks doctoring sick puppies. I have probably lost over $15,000 in puppies and veterinary care alone. I have kept 4 of the vaccines, so if there is anyone out there that knows where I can get these tested, to prove that they are what caused the parvo, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Peter from Gympie, Australia writes: "Dear people,

I understand and share your sadness and grief. I have a lifetime of experience with animals, and in that time I have seen the 'all creatures great and small' mentality generally turn to today's 'greed is good'.

There are good vets , but even they are mainly taught and trained by OLD professors, and OLD textbooks. Current up to date information comes mainly from pharmacuetical/products/feed reps.

And it is all about money these days I'm afraid.

I am not anti-vaccination, but one should be aware of the dangers and facts. They are mainly 2:

1.Transportation and storage. Vaccines should be kept at 2-8 degrees. Are they?Of course not with the human elements involved in transport and inferior storage and emergency capability(power outages-alarms etc. ). BUT no one knows, unless vaccines have a VVM (vaccine vial monitor)which costs a couple of cents. But if these were used, who would then pay for the spoiled vaccines?Vaccines which cost a few dollars?

2.Vaccines contain an adjuvant (preservative). This contains heavy metals-mainly mercury or aluminium. Small wonder then that one of the side effects is epilepsy-amongst other things,

Study this up-don't take my word for it, but why anyone takes their vet's word as gospel, and vaccinates when not necessary as research facts presented by Dr Ronald Schultz many years ago is beyond me.

She has been well since my husband took her back to our vets. He gave her a injection and some antibiotics. She seemed to pick up for a few days but went downhill again so my husband took her back to the vets. Again the vet gave her 2 more injections and some more antibots. She's still weak, off her food and water, not moving about much and sleeping a lot. She also keeps getting a temp, I keep giving her water into her mouth and she keeps turning her head away. I'm so worried she is going to die, we are taking her back to vets today. I'm sure it's down to this vaccination. She was fine untill she had it, Can you help please? thank you, Kay

[SIDE EFFECTS] Ruth from Barrington, Nh writes: "My miniature schnauzer who is 7 had a Lyme vaccine in October 2011.. 3 weeks later she developed a large lump on her front left side near front leg.

We brought her back to the vet to be told she had a reaction to the shot. I was at the time relieved as we feared cancer. The vet did a a test to make sure cancer was ruled out.

I was shocked that my little dog had this lump from a shot that is supposed to keep her healthier.

I read these posts here and my heart goes out to those who have lost a pet to these vaccines.

On another note, my husband had a very bad reaction last year from the flu shot.. Blurry vision, legs went numb, couldn't urinate and to this day suffers from migraines. Maybe it's time to really think about the odds of taking these shots and it helping us or having something bad happen.

I am a guardian to my beloved Elle, I want to only subject her to things that won't harm her. I hope that the laws will change and we can choose safer options for our animal friends.

[DEATH REPORTED] Cindy from Las Vegas, Nevada writes: "Our 7 year old healthy Papillion was vaccinated and died in one week after a rabies vaccine given to him by our Vet who gave him a clean bill of health prior to administering the vaccine last Tuesday. He was not eating by Sunday night, and was no longer his bouncing, bubbly self. So Monday when we took him to the vet to have the lack of appetite, and energy noted in his file, we were shocked to hear that his system was shutting down, and he was on deaths door. His gums were yellow and he began to urinate blood! The vet gave him steroids to boost his immune system, and a blood transfusion to hold him overnight in hopes that he might improve. He said with the transfusion you will generally see an increase in red blood cells, but there was no response.

So on Tuesday morning he was given another blood transfusion and again continued to fail! The vet said our dog was totally unresponsive and if he should improve at that point (to which he said was slim to none) he would never be the same. It gave us no choice but to put him down. He never leaves our sight, our fenced yard, or the connection with our female Papillion. (Except for his shots) He eats home made organic food, His white blood cell count was good, and the vet said there was no internal bleeding. We cannot come up with any other explanation for his sudden death other than the rabies vaccine last Tuesday! Our female Papillion did not get the shot and she is fine! Thank GOD!

[SIDE EFFECTS] Joann from Atlanta, Ga writes: "My 5 year old cat received a feline leukemia booster yesterday. He was acting himself prior to the vaccine. I did this because I have a rescue cat which MAY be leukemia positive; because of this I have given boosters to the other cats.

This morning, I found him hiding in the closet. He is growling and not very approachable. He will not eat now. I have never seen him like this.

Because of have other cats, I have isolated him and will observe him.

I have had other cats which developed acute reactions to vaccines, including myositis, and swelling and fever. I am very concerned, because vets will assure you there are few problems, and I truly believe they think this is so in many cases; and yet read articles on the internet, and they state quite the opposite.

The truth of the matter is whenever something foreign to the body is introduced, and we really don't know what is in the vaccine, problems can happen. It is difficult to believe what the pharmaceutical companies state because this is easy money.

[SIDE EFFECTS] Lu from Billericay, England writes: "Four Chihuahua puppies were taken at age 9 weeks for vaccination no 1 and a large lump developed on their shoulders which soon subsided. Six days after the vaccine one puppy seemed slow and under the weather and the the following morning was found semi conscious in her bed. We could not bring her round, her little body arched in a seizure. We gave honey and kept her hydrated. We rang our homeopath and we tried several remedies and she showed some improvement and then one more remedy and she came round after 4 hours on and off and was walking about. The following day she had another seizure in the morning and we knew which remedy helped and she came round in 30 mins. A week later she had another and the same pill brought her round in minutes. It is now about 10 days since the last episode. We feel the vaccination combined with mum's milk drying up may have been responsible. After the first episode she had lost her appetite and needed lots of care. She is full of life and eating well again. We will not go for the next vaccination in case she is too small and too young.

Jacquei from Santa Ynez, Ca writes: "My almost 4 month old Aussie has a bad reaction to a vaccination. Parvo/distemper. He is having head tremors.

I contacted a homeopathic vet, and she said to give him Thuja. How much do I give him? I bought 30 and 200. I read to give him one dose a day for a week, then one dose a day of sulpher fr a week. I also got him tincture of Milk thistle. How much do I give him? He weighs about 28 pounds Thanks
