Stool Issues in Pets

Mucus in the Stools: If your pet has mucus in his/her stools, it may be an indication of irritation in the stomach lining and large intestine. Mucus in stools can come from a number of factors, ranging from food allergies, ingesting poisons or chemicals, or eating rotten food or garbage. Mucus in the stool can also come from parasite infestations, like hookworm, whipworm, roundworm or tapeworm.

A bland diet containing cooked rice with chicken can often help heal the stomach lining.

Remedies Needed

03/08/2010: Mama from London, Ontario: "I'm looking for someone who might know what I'm dealing with... my 2month old Chihuahua poops nothing but mucus once or twice a week. The rest of the week he has normal bowel movements. There is no smell to the mucus but very faint tiny strings of blood (almost unnoticeable). I know that he seems to have this problem 1 or 2 days after being extremely excited or nervous. Is this normal for a Chihuahua? His breeder says it's just nerves, but I would like someone else to verify that. He won't eat or drink on those days either - so it must give him a belly ache. I have been putting probiotics on his holistic dog food but it hasn't helped yet. If anyone is familiar with this type of problem I would love to hear from you. Mama"

If your chihuahua is having mucus in its stools make sure he stays hydrated, what i do for mine when they wont eat or are having runny stool or haveing stomach problems is: I take one tablespoon of activita yogert in the AM make sure it is the vanilla flavor, Also give him/her 4cc 2x aday morning and night of pedialite any flavor this will keep her hydrated, yes a diet of rice and chicken will work for him/her, also keep in mind u need a good food for your dog that has no byproducts in it wich leads in the first 5 to 10 ingredents wich usally is chicken by product, ground yellow corn, artificial dyes, and also wheat can make her/him have problems. good foods to put them on are natural balance duck and potato or bison and sweet potato, vennisonand sweet potato, or earthborn products such as ocean fusion. i hope this little info helps you out any questions feel free to contact me at my email. good luck
