BEST WAY TO KEEP DOG'S EARS CLEAN?

09/21/2008: Gary from Lakemore, Ohio writes: "Could anyone tell me how to keep my dog's ears "clean"? Every few months she develops"gunk" in the right one The vet charges me about $100 for meds and after it clears up, it's back again! She won't let me touch the ear(even though I've bought the 3 step cleaning kit). She's constantly shaking her head and scratching that ear,but she runs when I come near her with a Q-tip or tissue! I feel guilty because she's hurting, but what can I do?

Just about every dog food you purchase has those things in it. I have her on a natural food that does not contain any of the above and we saw a difference after just two days of feeding it to her. The Vet recommended no more turkey/chicken/beef so we went to the fish diet which she seems to think is just wonderful! We tried the duck type of food but noticed no difference. The problem is trying to figure out on our own if this is a yeast or bacterial infection. She constantly licks her paws so I think we'll start with the ACV diluted spray. Like many other people on this site, I would recommend you switch the food you are providing your pet. Yes, these other foods are about $10 more a bag but you're ahead if they cut at least 2 trips a year to your Vet and the medicine you have to purchase! "
