[WARNING!]  05/28/2009: Leah from New York, NY: "I read all your remedies using a teaspoon or more of cinnamon a day, but then when I did an internet search, I found all sorts of wanrnings about long-term usage of cinnamon. There can be a real danger of liver damage. Here is one link I found, but you can do a simple Google search yourselves. http://www.bfr.bund.de/cm/279/frequently_asked_questions_about_coumarin_in_cinnamon_and_other_foods.pdf

I think you should post this warning on top of all the posts indicating large daily intake of cinnamon powder. Thanks."

05/30/2009: Rob from Manhattan, Nyork City replies: "wow, thanks Leah... a constant dilemma for us omnivores... what is and isn't safe to eat. according to this, ceylon has much less coumarin compared to cassia."

10/23/2009: Katherine from Ventura, Ca replies: "I'm responding to Leah from NY's post with the link attached describing the danger of cinnamon. I read it but it doesn't give enough information to figure out what is a safe or dangerous amount. They give measurements of milligrams and we use measurements of teaspoons. It is impossible to convert their milligrams into our teaspoons because they are using a weight measurement and we are using a volume measurement. So...how much cinnamon is a safe amount? We can't tell by the article you submitted. Therefore we need to find another source with American measurements to help us. Get searching people! FYI...according to the article the liver damage is temporary. You may suffer some jaundice which will clear in a matter of weeks and it only happens to some people, not all according to the article."

02/08/2010: Thomas from Carlsbad, Ca replies: "No reason to FEAR THE Cinnamon and Honey cholesteral Cure,

Leah must work for Lipitor to scare everyone back to statins which can really kick the wazooo out of your liver, but its ok to take so says the rubber stamp FDA.

Apprantly no one read the link Leah provided.

Please follow the one below.

Cassia Cinnamon is a close relative to Real Cinnamon which is native to Ceylon.Cassia Cinnamon is also called Saigon Cinnamon or Chinese Cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon contains COUMARIN which is the problem for the liver. Real cinnimon from Ceylon has only .0004%coumarin. The zeros to the right of the decimal point indicate an extremely small level or one heck of an intake of cinnamon before worrying about liver problems.

Saigon cinnamon on the other hand contains 5% COUMARIN this is alot and is not good and this form of cinnamon should not be used for this formulation. Go figure this is the cinnamon all the big bakers use. Why? Cheaper. So if your eating a lot of cinnabuns you pounding your liver as well as your cholesteral.

So the formula would appear to be safe as long as you use real cinnimon from Ceylon. Lets get started lowering cholesterol with out the use of statin drugs listen to the disclaimers in the ads. They tell you what their going to give you along with your cure in a pill.

04/13/2010: Barry from Savannah, Missouri replies: "FYI about volume measurement: A teaspoon of cinnamon is alomost exactly 3 grams equivalent. Also, I read a wellness letter in 2005 that with only a 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, they observed total cholesterol numbers drop from 18 to 30 points in a 30 day period."

04/13/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "18 to 30 points, is that a drop? And what about the coumarin (not that I know what that is....)."
EC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coumarin

04/14/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Thanks for clarifying this subject, I had never heard of coumarin. Now I understand the dangers of cinnamon but the mini-beet protocol included taking cinnamon on a daily basis... I have tried the second protocol and I have to say that no matter how good it maybe for you I didn't like it. I don't like taking the same juice every day and I didn't like the cinamon either, it tastes awful. I will try to include more beet juice in my diet as well as asparagus, celery and fennel but not every day and not together. We do a lot for our health but... it has to stay a bit of fun otherwise we give it up! I still don't understand about the lower cholesterol."

04/14/2010: Tamara from Fort Collins, Colorado replies: "I just wanted to add my two cents about the cinnamon during the mini beet protocol. Besides containing coumarins (and the amount is dependent on which type of cinnamon you're using), cinnamon helps to regulate blood sugar levels. So, when Robert advises you to start the cinnamon about 15 minutes before drinking the beet juice, he is trying to help you control the blood sugar and insulin response your body will have when drinking a juice made from beets. Beets, as everyone knows, are root vegetables and root veggies have a high sugar content (think potatoes, carrots, etc.) Then, by eating the carrots and apples immediately afterwards, you won't feel the detox effects as much because the fiber from the carrots and apples helps to eleviate and slow down that insulin response once more. So cinnamon plus fiber equals less blood sugar side effects from drinking the highly concentrated (but very effective and powerful) attributes of the beets. Please don't be afraid of cinnamon!"

03/05/2011: Chloe from East Greenwich, Ri replies: "Here is what I found on Wikipedia regarding the toxicity of *Cassia*. As you can see, the most popular type, CINNOMUM BURMANII. which I get in bulk from Starwest Botanicals, is very low in essential oils, and therefore you should not worry about this liver damage scare:

innamomum burmannii, also known as Indonesian Cinnamon, Padang Cassia, or Korintje, is one of several plants in the genus Cinnamomum whose bark are sold as the spice cinnamon[1]. The spice is the least expensive of the three common forms of cinnamon as it has the lowest essential oil content. The most common and cheapest type of cinnamon in the US is made from powdered Cinnamomum burmannii. As a result of the low oil content, Cinnamomum burmannii may have less of the mildly toxic substance coumarin than does C. cassia[2]."

07/15/2011: Charlie from Marion, Indiana replies: "hello, first of all thanks to leah for the warning on cinnimon and coumarin. i was taking mega doses of cinnimon and honey. to help reduce cholesterol and blood sugar. yesterday i recieved the results of a blood test for cholesteral and sugar. while they both improved, the results of my liver functions was completely off the chart. my last blood work for liver functions taken 3months ago was a little high at 132 this test showed my liver functions at 720 so i would have to believe there is a corralation between the use of cinnimon and liver complications. seems i have traded one health concern for another..

i am going to stop using the cinnamon and start drinking beet and carott juice to see if i can reverse the damage. will post my results later. thanks to all who submit their concerns on this web site. CHARLIE"

07/15/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "Yes only use Cinnamon from Srilanka. The Cinnamon from the Philippines has the stuff that does the liver damage. Ok in small amounts but not good in large amounts."

07/16/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Hi Charlie, be careful with too much carrot juice as well, they seem to help develop certain forms of cancer, at least that is what I read..... One almost comes to the conclusion that everything is bad for you! Maybe the truth is that everything in moderation is good for you and also food that is properly grown, not the type full of chemicals!"

07/16/2011: Jay from Toronto, Ont, Canada replies: "To Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France who wrote "..... be careful with too much carrot juice as well, they seem to help develop certain forms of cancer, at least that is what I read..... One almost comes to the conclusion that everything is bad for you! Maybe the truth is that everything in moderation is good for you.

Francisca, where did you read that carrot juice helps develop cancer? There are several alternative medicine treatments that use carrot juice as part of their protocol to treat and even cure cancer. Gerson Therapy is one that comes to mind

Be careful with using the phrase "everything in moderation is good for you". Doctors recommended moderate cigarette smoking in the 1930's for people with anxiety issues."

07/16/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Oh my, Jay..... You know very well what I meant! Which is, that whatever you eat, drink, has to be in moderation or else it might still hurt you! Common sense, really.... Therefore it is sensible to eat a variaty of foods, not only focus on one or two that might indeed be very good for you but they cease to be if you eat them the whole time! Actually.... why am I even explaining this? Who talked about smoking? Come on....

Sorry I don't remember where I read about the carrot juice but I did a short while ago. No one is saying that you shouldn't drink it ever but the thing is maybe be careful with the amount! Anyway, my approach nowadays is exactly as I said: Everything can be good for you or bad for you depending on the approach (and no, I don't mean smoking, as I don't mean taking any kind of poison, or toxic chemicals.... sorry but no, I don't mean that! ).

Anyway, try drinking too much carrot juice and you will turn orange! Years ago a man died doing exactly that, far too much carrot juice!"

03/10/2009: Brandy from Athens, GA: "I have a question instead of a remedy? I had nasal septoplasty and turbinate reduction in Oct. 2008. Still having some trouble with congestion and doctor says I have GERD now. Which is a type of reflux. I have been on Previcid for 2 months and even though I do not feel I have reflux he says I need to take pills two times a day instead of one. How does honey and cinnamon work with breathing issues? I always thought honey worked against asthma. I do not have asthma but how would honey and cinnamon affect this? Thanks"

[YEA]  01/07/2009: Ellen from Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Currently livin: "Essential Oil Inhalation cure for Bronchitis, Sinus Infections, Pneumonia

I regularly get sinus infections due to a deformity in one of my sinuses. Until a few years ago when I found this cure I had regular bronchitis and lastly in 2005 I had serious pneumonia. I opted out of health insurance years ago so I had to take responsibility for my own health.
I got onto one of those $39.95 sites with the magical cure but this one WORKED! So here it is for all of you.

The following essential oils are 89% antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal. Cinnamon, Clove and Oregano. First, get the best quality you can.

These oils work magic together BUT, you can use just one or a combo of two if that is all you can get. Put 2-3 drops of each oil in a steamer or a steaming pan of water. BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET THE OILS ON YOUR SKIN...They burn. Cinnamon and Clove burn. (Cinnamon Oil is the main ingredient of all those lip plumpers :-) Now, inhale the steam with your eyes closed and take it in as deeply as you possibly can, breathing through the nose and the mouth alternately. When I did this with my pneumonia, I felt a kind of crack in my lungs after three or four breaths and everything started to come loose. I coughed up all the guck and was completely well in 5 days. I was so sick that I had bruised my ribs from the coughing and I was very, very weak. Now at the first sign of anything respiratory, I do this. I have never had a reoccurence of bronchitis or pneumonia and very seldom get any sinus trouble anymore. How happy I am that we can all share these wonderful old rememdies with each other! Thanks to this site and all of you."

[YEA]  01/11/2008: Brigitte from Houston, Texas: "Each year I have sinus drainage which results in throat problems. I read somewhere that cinnamon oil is a natural antibiotic so I thought I would try it to treat my sore throat and sinusitus. Sincerely it works to assuage the complications that occur when these things are allowed to run their course without a series of antibiotics. Note that if you do not catch the problem in its early stages and you begin to develop an ear infection this will burn like crazy when it hits the eustration tube of your inner ear. It will cause no harm but it literally feels like your inner ear is on fire. It works to open sinus drainage if you use a dropper and place two or three drops on the back of your mouth's roof top. Larger doses cause minor stomach irritation. Pregnant women should avoid all forms of cinnamon like the plague; as cinnamon can cause premature labor"

[YEA]  12/23/2007: Merle from Hillsboro, Oregon: "I have been struggling with a ongoing sinus congestion causing severe headaches on waking and thick drainage down the back of my throat for almost 3 months. I had been taking over the counter remedies but had resigned myself to a trip to the doctor for something stronger to knock out what I believed to be a low level sinus infection; it wasn't clearing up and today was worse than ever when I woke up. I remembered reading about honey and cinnamon remedy for "something" so thought I would look to see if there were something for sinus problems. On your site I found a remedy - 1/4t cinnamon with 1Tbl honey. Well, I tried it and within 15 minutes I could feel the pressure lightening, the drainage becoming thinner and less - I feel wonderful! I am not often moved to write a comment, but I just can't keep this one to myself - Thank you so much!"

[YEA]  05/14/2008: Lana from Morris, New Jersey: "Diarrhea (ailment) and Cinnamon (cure): My boyfriend had a stomach virus and was in awful pain. He was throwing up and using the bathroom around every 5-10 minutes. It was to the point where he had nothing left to expell but water and bile. I finally convinced him to drink a tea mix I made. I used- 1 cinnamon stick, broken up with a scissor a big pinch of ground ginger pinch of ground mustard a pinch of ground cloves (or 2 whole) I let it steep from boiling to drinkable temperature. He started getting better almost instantaneously. It stopped not only the diarrhea, but also the throwing up and the incredible pain. I never saw anything work so fast!"

I was so desperate that I came across your website and I read the article on cinnamon tea. So I immediately tried it and it work about 3 hours after. So I continue to drink this tea for a few days and now I am perfect. Thanks for your information."

[YEA]  08/31/2010: Jim from Bellingham, Wa: "Cinnamon as a curative for UTI (urinary tract infections). Use/mix with toast or small yogurt. Stumbled on this when researching the topic of UTI's. So my wife gave it a try and... Bingo. Situation solved. Now a regular part of her diet. Also, when our female dog was passing blood the vet. wanted to schedule an operation he thought things were so bad. Took her home and just thought before we brought her back we would give her some yogurt with cinnamon. Next day urine looked perfect and brought the vet a sample. He was in disbelief as she tested normal. We've told many people about this as it is easy, cheap and really works. So for people and pets try it. Just a teaspoon seems to do it. We give it daily to our pets for years and never a problem since. Hope this post helps someone."

Coli O157:H7 bacteria. About a teaspoon of cinnamon was added and the concoction was left to stand for three days. When researchers tested the juice samples it was discovered that 99.5 percent of the bacteria had been destroyed. So I'm trying cinnamon oil in steam for E coli sinus infection a very small amount mixed with some soothing oil on q-tip put in my nose to inhale it to kill e coli."

[YEA]  01/05/2010: Donna from Royal Oak, Mi: "I've battled bladder issues all my life, and for a while, high contentrations of cranberry (pills, not juice - juice has too much sugar which feeds the infection) helped. That was until I got IC and became antibiotic resistant. Felt like I was peeing glass. By fluke I read 3 sentences in a magazine that saved me - it basically said that cinnamon kills off E-coli. E-coli is often the cause of bladder issues and IC. I started taking cinnamon capsules and felt major relief in a matter of a few days. I highly recommend it to anyone who suffers from IC. You'll sing its praises too."

01/08/2010: Donna from Royal Oak, Mi replies: "Fresh is of course always better, but I basically took premade capsules for the convenience. Started out with 4-6 a day, a couple in the morning, afternoon and evening. After the symptoms were alleviated, I gradually reduced my intake. I still will take one a day, and sprinkle fresh cinnamon on my toast or apples just for maintenance purposes. Wonderful thing is that cinnamon also helps stomach issues! (gas, bloating, etc) It is a miracle worker as far as I am concerned."

I have suffered from pelvic pain for a while - I believe it's IC, as it flares up after I drink coffee, eat chocolate, or eat strawberries or tomatoes. I read your post and bought cinnamon capsules. I would love to know if you or anybody on this post has had luck with cinnamon - how many 500 mg capsules should I take every day to feel a difference?

Thanks! Emily"

[YEA]  05/22/2009: Longtail4711 from Seattle, WA: "Honey for Weight Loss and Stress:

I'm a big fan of honey for helping lose and maintain weight loss. My biggest problem with dieting is not that I don't enjoy daily exercise and vegetables, but I could not get rid of my sugar cravings in order to stop binging on cookies and chocolate! Especially in the afternoon and evening. It was stressing me out so bad I'd end up quitting and just yo-yoing my weight again. So read about honey, and thought it was worth a try. I started eating 1 TBS organic blackberry honey along with sprinkling of cinnamon on half a slice of toasted whole wheat pita bread. Perks me right up and gives me energy, and it gets rid of my sugar cravings! It's easy now to ignore high-fat fare, and I get a nutritious snack in the process that I don't have to feel guilty about. I've lost 64 pounds so far in the last year!"

[YEA]  04/04/2009: Chu from Edmond, Oklahoma : "i have been drinking honey and cinnamon tea for about a month and have lost 10lbs i don't really change anything about my diet, however i noticed somedays i do eat less and do not have the munchies, but somedays i will pigout and not gain any weight,,, i drink it mainly at nite, and sometimes in the morning if i have time,,, i do add a ginger/honey flavored tea to it to mask the taste of the cinnamon and honey

recipe, i put in two shakes of cinnamon
one spoon of honey to taste, if it doesn't taste good you're not going to drink it, so adjust accordingly and use a tea that is to your taste,,,

it is important to use ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum) not cassia cinnamon (Cinnamomum Cassia) because ceylon cinnamon only has .004% Coumarin and cassia has 5% Coumarin. Relatively small amounts of coumarin can damage the liver of particularly sensitive individuals.

i also found if i used pure raw unprocessed unfiltered honey the results were much faster,,, raw unprocessed honey is not runny and is in a solid state much like butter.

for those who like to follow recipes exactly
i use Owl brand Ginger Honey tea
Wee Bee Honey Naturally Raw
cinnamon from http://www.a1spiceworld.com/cinnamon_ground.html because most cinnamon found in stores are cassia or they are not even labeled, so it was easier to be sure i had the correct kind when i bought online, this was the cheapest place i could find it,,, i bought the 8oz size which comes in a convient shaker, this is lasting me a long time i've barely made a slight dent in the bottle.

hope this helps some of you guys with your weight loss goals!"
