Yeast Infection Cures
A vaginal yeast infection is characterized by burning, itching, soreness, pain during intercourse and/or urination, and vaginal discharge that looks rather like cottage cheese. A diagnosis is confirmed through identification of the yeast under a microscope from a specimen scraped from the vaginal area.
Yeast infections occur when new yeast is introduced into the vaginal area, or when there is an increase in the quantity of yeast already present in the vagina relative to the quantity of normal bacteria. When normal, protective bacteria are eradicated by antibiotics or by immunosuppressive drugs, for example, the yeast can multiply, invade tissues, and cause irritation of the lining of the vagina.

TED'S REMEDIES
06/19/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "It has been known in academic circles for sometime that vitamin B3 in the form of niacinamide (non-flushing) is relatively toxic to yeast. A scientist found several years ago and concluded (wrongly) that taking vitamin B3 niacinamide will shorten your life span or longevity, through suppressing the SIR2 silencing gene, which is responsible for longevity.
As a result of this little misinformation, people stopped taking niacinamide and candida and yeast infections skyrocketed. Now the reason for the mistake was relatively simple, the scientist was apparently doing a study on longevity on yeast cells. Apparently in higher animals, fruit flies included, the effect of adding niacinamide resulted in longer life of 15%, as well as human embryo cells.
Therefore, if you have candida, yeast infection, or possibly even a UTI (urinary tract infection), taking niacinamide between 100-500 mg/day could solve this mystery that doctors have a hard time suppressing. In fact, you can expand this idea into applying the use of niacinamide NOT NIACIN, as a means of controlling fungus, since fungus is a relatively close cousin of the yeast also.
This is interesting, since in medicine the two most hardest organism to kill is actually fungus and yeast. It is almost a death sentence if you have this and getting rid of it may mean endless nightmare. Who knows, perhaps dissolving niacinamide with vinegar will be helpful in relieving your toe nail fungus infections.
Therefore a possibility exists from the point of view of biological terrain, candida, yeast and fungus infection is a form of niacinamide deficiency."
RepliesEC: Ted's friend confirmed this finding for yeast infections, "i gave my wife 500mg of niacinamide and she say her vulva itching is reduced by 50% -- wow!!! why i never thought of B3!!! i assume that we were getting lots in our diet."
03/04/2011: Scottye from Cypress, Texas replies: "I have had this for now 10 years it is candida and it is in my gut. I have been on the yeast free diet and still I can not get the blothing down. I have started on the raw diet of milk hoping this is going to help me. Where do you get this B3 niacinamide?"
04/17/2011: Dana from St. Augustine, Fl replies: "if you are drinking raw milk from cows who are only fed grass then you will be getting more vitamins, enzymes, nutrients than any pill that you take. You should look into the westin a. Price foundation and book! Explains all about raw milk/cheese/butter : )"
05/11/2010: Trudy from Harbor Springs, Michigan, USA writes: Would Vitamin B3 work for a dog with chronic yeast infection in the ears? If so, how much is safe to give him?"
05/04/2011: Teia from Detroit, Mi, USA replies: "I am so happy I found this site. The doctor perscribed an anitbotic for me for a sinus infection I had - so this gave me a yeast infection. I brought otc meds and it made it hurt worst. So while on this site tonight - I took a bath in Apple Cider Vinegar for about 20 mins and I put on perxoide - it burns a little but the itching is gone. Thanks so much for all the posts."

12/14/2011: And12 from Sioux Falls, South Dakota writes: "I've had yeast infections a couple of times every year since I was a teenager (I'm in my 20's now). In that time I've seen doctors who tell me to use Monistat or other over the counter antifungals to "fix" the problem. In the past, this has always worked fine... With patience. In an effort to use more natural methods to cure the ailment I tried ACV and garlic and they had some effect, but I ultimately ended up falling back on Monistat because the above mentioned methods take much time and consistency to cure the infection.
Last year I began working in a natural foods store where we emphasize preventative measures in dealing with all health issues. I've learned a great deal about how important probiotics are to balancing not only digestive health, but also in keeping pH levels in check. This morning when I woke up with that all too familiar slight burning/itching feeling, I consulted our selection of acidophilus and found "FemDophilus". The package suggests taking one pill per day for a month to see noticeable results - so I started that. I also inserted two of the "pills" into my vagina and within an hour I feel complete relief. I'm quite impressed with how little time this method took in relieving my symptoms and I will continue to take the acidphilus orally to prevent future yeast infections. This is a great product - whether you use this brand or not, I think using straight acidophilus rather than "antifungals" to cure yeast infections is the way to go for me."

I don't experience that initial burning and extreme discomfort I feel upon insertion of a Monistat treatment... And relief comes QUICKLY. I insert one and chew one. If I act immediately (the day the little itch n twitch begins)... I'm back to normal in 1 or 2 days. I got mine from Walgreens. One bottle was $11, but they were buy one get one free! Sometimes I still use the external itch cream left over from the Monistat three day pack for immediate relief if I haven't acted right away... I think you can buy the cream separately as well... Hope this helps!"

I can smell it when I am sitting down and it makes me very self conscious which is not like me because I feel I am a very bubbly person.... Anyway I actually have my yearly gyn opt tomorrow and I was thinking of telling him about my problem but like most of you, all he did when I was suffering from multiple yeast infections was give me that metrogel and flucazanol and another one that starts with a T that I cant remember.. But honestly I didnt start having this discharge and odor until he perscribed that freakn flucaznol.!!!! .. So I recently have tried the acidophilus and folic acid.. Im not sure the dosage I should take but ive been taking 2 acidophilus and 3 folic acid and have even been taking 1 of the rephresh pills (which I think im going to stop taking those since it has really helped).. I will try inserting the acidophilus up the "twoat"to see if that helps as well.. This is my first post so I will keep you updated.. Thank you all for being so honest.. It really helps because sometimes I feel I am alone with this.."

Take 2 acidophilus pills (normal dose in the bottle)for the 2 nights before your period starts and 2 nights after they end. My doctor told me acidophilus won't work for BV but this is better then inserting them vaginally and bleeding. I don't know how long to take them. I took them for 6 months and it also helped my constipation. Ten years later I am still regular were I never was before. So this will defintely help yeast infections and regularity. My thought is that acidophilus is good for the vaginal flora which SHOULD be good for BV but I can't test it."

[YEA] 11/28/2008: Juanita Browne from New Orleans, La. USA writes: "I suffered a raging yeast infection after having to take a regime (3 months) of strong antibiotics for a staph infection a couple of years ago. Someone suggested taking Acidophillus... I took 4 capsules of the 8 Billion strength with each capsule as a maintance dose till I finished the antibiotic treatment... However, when I started on the Acidophillus treatment, I needed fast relief from the itching and inserted 2 capsules directly in the vagina 2xs a day... this really helped and gave a jump start to relieving my symptoms! I did this also while taking the capsules oraly.
I don't understand why Doctors are not savvy to this and tell their patients about Acidophillus when they prescribe antibiotics in the first place... maybe to sell higher priced Nystatin drugs thru big Pharmacital corporations!
This site is a blessing... I come here often in search of new remedies and cures! God bless you...

[YEA] 08/05/2009: Tanja from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Hello there.I just wanted to add that I also had a recurring vaginal yeast infection (or thrush as it is known here) over the years. In Australia you can get an over the counter cream which you insert. However, I found this cream to be only a temporary fix, and the infection came back. Once, I had it twice within a two week period. Frustrated, I went to my local health food store and asked about an alternative...and yes...I was also told to insert 2 Acidophilus capsules directly into the vagina every night for 2 weeks. Major relief virtually overnight! This happened 2 years ago and I've never had an infection since!
The reason they don't tell you about it is because it's all way too simple, and if you knew about it, then you would stop having to go to the chemist for more of the other stuff which doesn't work in the long term.
ps. I discovered this site several months ago. Thank you to everyone responsible for making it work and getting the message out there. There are so many simple and cheap remedies you can use which work. Why poison yourself with pharmaceuticals which only make matters worse. All the best to everyone."
01/26/2012: Jenifer from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "Acidophilus is just one of the many things I've done to combat a permanent yeast infection that I've had for over a decade. I can't tell you guys how I have suffered with this condition and I have tried every natural cure on the planet. It's been the single most challenging health problem that I've faced in my whole life. The emotional, sexual, personal, mental, and spiritual, aswell as finacial, and physical toll this condition has caused me cannot be sufficiently put into words. The worst thing about it, as I felt I was the only one. The only one that couldnt carry on a sex life like a normal person, (and I Love sex! ) the only one that had this embarrassing and distracting condition. I just felt and STILL feel so abnormal, and completely alone. Thanks to my tireless research online and earthclinic, I can live like a somewhat normal person, and can have a functional sex life again.
Diet: Very important.. Green Smoothies, superfoods like Maca, Spirulina, Barley and Wheat grasses, aswell as Goji Berry juice, Coconut oil and flax oils. All essential to builing up your health and Immune system. Start there.
Supplements: Take em. I take everything. I am a health food, vitamin junkie, thanks to my yeasties!! Take at least a multivitamin, and a vitamin c tablet every day. AND Acidophilus, everyday.
Folic Acid: Some women claim to be yeast free by taking this vitamin everyday. It worked for me for about a year, then my body got used to it.
Herbs: Grapefruit seed extract, taken three times a day during and infection, HELPS A LOT. Six droplets in an empty gel cap three times a day. Also Oregano oil (filled to the brim of the gelcap) three times a day is great too. I rotate em every other infection. But dont store Oil or Oregano in a gelcap, it will burn rite thru the geletin.
Colloidal Silver, is good too. Taken everyday for maintenance. Some people swear it cures an infection in larger amounts.
Coconut oil: Some people claim this will cure an infection in a few days taken in large quantities a few times a day, but it didnt really work for me. I do tak it everyday in a smoothie and I think it does help.
Dong Quai: As a tea and herb. This works wonders for balancing hormones, which might also be your problem. I also read online a women cured her painful sex with this herb.
Tea tree oil: Awwww yesss!! Good ole' tea tree oil!! A long time friend and partner and ally in my battle against the yeast but it does nothing for me now, my body got used to it. I started inserted it in Gel caps in my vajajay mixed with a carrier oil like castor oil and it worked for a while to cure my infections!! I also used it as a preventative after sex, or swimming or whatever. Dabbed some on my fingers and wiped it around in there. But it stopped working after a couple years.
Douches: Acidophilus, sea salt, ACV douches, you name it. I did it. Douching is horrible for the PH. Caused me more problems than anything. Lavender oils, are good too, along with tea tree.
Neem oil can also be used to cure an infection. Inserted in a tampon or gel cap. No need for a carrier oil. Needs to be set in warm water to liquify during the winter months.
Myrrh oil. Awesome. I cannot say enough about this oil, its incredibly healing. It Burns tho, Ive almost killed myself with this oil before. NEEDS to be diluted. Use this oil in a gelcap, TWICE a day for 3 or more days. Like maybe 2 drops in a gelcap with almond oil or something.
Grapefruit seed extract in a gel cap with a carrier oil or DOUCHE (some women do that too) in also awesome. It does burn tho. Douching may be preferable. 20 drops or more in a cup of water.
Silver can also be put in a douche.
What I do: It's hard for me to cure an infection completely on supplements alone. Unfortunantly, I have to get rite in there down and dirty, and put things inside, actually IN the area to get really effective results. Investing in empty gel caps is a must.
Oils: Some women claim to cure infections with Castor Oil, Coconut oil, and Flax oil alone. For me, it helps, A LOT, and makes me functional for sex, and soothes the tissues, etc, but does not really cure an infection.
I also actually put Goldenseal EXTRACT, (with the alcohol) inside as well, and can cure an infection in 3 days. But it burns a bit, the buring subsides after a few minutes. Hey, I'm a vet at this. I don't care about a little burning. Anything not to have to endure burning, uncomfortable sex all the time!! Who wants to live like that!!!
Boric Acid: I hate Boric Acid. It works. It's strong. But it's messy and its a poison. I get the runs while using it, and it dries the tissues out so much that I have to wait a week after using it to have sex again. It's awful. But it does work.
Gential Violet. Some people swear by this remedy aswell. I myself, have not tried it.
Tampons:: I don't like tampons cuz I'm prone to yeast anyway, but I also find I waste a lot of medicine this way(which is expensive), and they are uncomfortable and drying.
Pau de Arco:: I've heard this works well as a tea/ douche and taken internally as a tea and supplement, but I have not tried it yet. They say that in Brazil, this is the only tree that doesn't get fungus.
My theory on this: I dont know why I have this problem. I don't know what my body is missing, or lacking, to where I cannot fend off even one infection and I contract this horrible problem each and everytime I have any kind of sexual activity.
I know I prolly have Vulvodynia. I've had this problem ever since I lost my virginity at 22, so maybe my body wasn't built for sex. But I do know, that ever since I started the herbs, my health is great, I look great, feel better, and at times, when I manage to have yeast free, sexually active periods, sex feels awesome, and clean!! And my flowers feel the way it did when I was a teenager. So, yes, it's possible to feel normal again, and to have normal sex again. It's just time consuming and something you have to fight for more than others, I guess."
01/31/2012: Charlene from Anywhere, Ks, Usa replies: "Tanja, You are not alone. I too have had this problem since I lost my virginity at the age of 19. I'm now 41. I've never had a normal sex life either. There always seems to be some kind of problem. I've been suffering from an ongoing yeast infection for nearly a year now. I can't take it anymore. I'm here to learn how to "cure" it myself, since my doctor hasn't succeeded. THANK YOU for your information."

I've also tried numerous other methods - Ted's suggestion of Nicaniamide, probiotics etc. I have found some relief with yoghurt though - I make my own with a high bacterial content & insert it into my vagina at night. My husband (graphic as it is!!) then inserts his you-know-what, which pushes it in & around properly i guess. (A few bouts of BV every now and then as well) I had never had either problem ever until a year and a half ago.. it's so frustrating. The only thing that really worked was taking 9 diflucan pills over the course of 3 months. But, after a few months of relief, i got another yeast infection. and, now since it's summer i guess, i've had a yeast infection since the beginning of may that won't go away. doctor gave me terazol and diflucan, it only got worse.. i tried acidophilus, but i guess i took too many a day because it made my stomach hurt! I just tried yogurt insertion. I hope it works. I don't know what else to do. I'm considering getting off of birth control as well, or at least taking it in a way where i don't get periods. Maybe that'll help. Has getting off birth control worked for many people?"
Replies09/08/2008: Niese from Houston, TX replies: "Mandi: I would not continue to take too much more diflucan. I recently went to the doctor for what I thought was a yeast infection, later I found out it was a bacterial infection; however, she told me that continued long use of diflucan will eventually make your body not respond to the medicine, and when this happens it will be almost impossible to get rid of a yeast infection. The most effective thing to do is to use a 7 day cream. Old fashion I know, but it's safe and effective."
11/04/2008: Niccole from Manhattan, Montana, USA replies: "Response to Mandi from Fort Worth.I also dealt with constant yeast infections for about a year to year and a half. I finally went off birth control. After 2 months of being off them I felt better than I had in years! No more itching, no more burning, no more pain during intercourse. Plus, for me (and it seems the opposite for most people), I had a shorter period! "naturally" my period became only 2.5-3 days long. Heavy, but manageable. And then done with. On the pill, it would drag on for 8 days and be just enough bleeding to be an annoyance. Plus two days after it stopped, a new yeast infection would start. After being off the pill for a year, I tried going back on. Within 1 week I had the same aweful symptoms I had the year before. So I went right off it the next month. Just this past month (another year and half later) I have given the pill a third try... and guess where I am? On this site looking for more remedies to try!! An infection started last night- 3 days after the end of my period, and two days into a new pack of pills. My obvious answer is to stay away from the pill (which I had taken for nearly 15 year before I ever had problems like this). And yes, i have tried different doses and brands. But I am wanting a method of birth control that isn't permanent or requires too much preparation (i.e. diaphram). So my quest continues... I have tried boric acid suppositories (they work ok- less mess- but the infection always came back), I have tried all the doctor prescribed creams, gels, tablets and they have never worked, other than giving me a few days relief. The tablets (diflucan, etc.) only made me feel ill and upset my stomach. I have been eating yogurt everyday for the last 2 years. I went on a "yeast free" diet for a while. I am going to now try the apple cider vinegar approach. But ultimately I see myself back at the doctor's office trying to get a different form of birth control. In my experience, the only noticeable difference, and CURE, was going off the pill. So Mandi, if you can, try it and see what happens. Good Luck!"
12/08/2008: Debbie from Queens, NY replies: "This is a question for Niccole from Manhattan, Montana... I have been on the pill for almost ten years. In the last year and 1/2 I have gotten a yeast infection every month after my period. Now it seems that its not going away at all after using diflucan and monistat. I have cut all refined sugar, wheat and limited dairy out of my diet, I drink ACV, take acidophilus and garlic in pill form and nothing works! Its really getting depressing and I dont know what else to do besides come off the pill. Do you think its possible that this is the cause even though I've been on it for almost 10 yrs straight? Also, after 15 years did you experience and side effects from coming off the pill?"
01/17/2009: Angela from Kennewick, WA replies: "This is in response to Niese from Houston, TX I have a similar story to yours. I've had chronic yeast infections that was treated with diflucan. I've recently been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis from e-coli. Do you know why you got BV? I'm curious if continued use of diflucan can allow certain bacterias to grow? Any information is helpful, thanks!"
01/10/2010: Caralyne from New York, Ny replies: "I was suffering from recurrent yeast infections an BV a few years back. I got tired of taking the prescribed medications, because fighting the BV caused a yeast infection and then getting rid of the yeast would only last for a little while and back and forth and back and forth.
I started taking acidophilus orally (more than 100 million active per pil) twice a day and inserting garlic cloves into my vagina at night (strange right?) but it worked.
Also, I got rid of my partner. Sounds funny, but I do believe he was constantly passing the yeast and possibly even the BV back to me everytime I worked to get rid of it (that, and he was cheating on me anyway) but I noticed that after having sex with him (which was usually unprotected) I would get a yeast infection. I believe either he brought them to me or was carrying something that I may have given him but men usually dont get symptoms and so sex with him was disrupting my pH.
I suggest to any woman who is getting recurrent infections to definitely convince their partner to treat for yeast or to get a prescription of the flagyl to take orally for BV. It's very possible HE may be the reason you can't get a cure...and the pair of you might not even know it.
I haven't had a single yeast infection since I stopped dating and sleeping with him, but I also haven't had one since I started regularly taking Acidophilus, limiting my sugar intake and the garlic rememdy for about a week... and I eat yogurt (mostly, because I love yogurt tho! lol)
I am currently treating a very mild *so mild in fact i didn't know i had it until i had my annual pap smear* bout of BV with metrogel and am still taking my acidophilus regularly and will probably insert garlic vaginally and maybe even some capsules of the probiotic vaginally after i finish the metrogel just in case, as I dont want yeast to think they can come back!! Its been a great few years without yeast whereas i was having an infection every few weeks and was miserable!!"
07/15/2010: Sheryn from Milwaukee, Wi replies: "Caralyne from NY, NY who noticed that every time she had sex with her boyfriend she'd get a yeast infection: while it's entirely possible he was passing it back and forth. . . If you were using lubricant for sex, that might also be the culprit. Most drug-store brand lubricants are thickened with glycerin, which is a sugar. And if it's flavored. . . That's usually even MORE glycerin. Yeast loves the stuff, so if you're prone to yeast infections, and notice that you get itchy after sex, you might want to check the label and find yourself a water-based lube that doesn't have glycerin in it."

1) Colon cleanse
2) Acidophilus pills, on the high end of the recommended dosage
3) An anti-candida diet. Essentially, you are eliminating sugars which the yeast needs to live. Eventually, it starves and you are able to return to a "normal" diet. I did an anti-candida diet for 5 months and lost 20 pounds, 5 of it almost immediately. My hair, skin, and nails were pristine, and I looked and felt great. I'd stay away from any recommendations that suggest you can have fruit. You're symptoms will ebb and flow as you starve or feed the yeast."

I told her body had too much candida and she needed to take a Probiotic daily and that would balance the good bacteria in her system. She didn't believe me. She tried it and the next month, no yeast infection! I take Probiotics often and they help balance the bacteria in your digestive track which helps balance it in your whole body. I use "Garden of Life" Probiotic but there are others out there. You can check GNC as well. The Apple Cider Vinegar is a great "cure." A Probiotic can be used as a preventative supplement that can keep you from developing them later on."

I took off of work, because I was so uncomfortable. Aft reading about Acidolphius on this website, OMG!!!! Thank you sooooo much for the advice. To be honest, I was sort of skeptical about inserting a pill into my virgina. After trying prescribed medication (Diflucan, Terozol, etc.)and even over the counter medicine Monistat, I was desperate. I was sooo uncomfortable with the itching and burning that I was desperate for any advice. I went to ___ and purchased the 1 billion acidolphius. I took 3 orally, and I inserted 1 tablet vaginally. I have tried everything in the last 5 months, I eat healthy, am (relatively) stress free, working out more, stopped taking birth control, tried the candida diet plus supplements (no sugar no alcohol! ) for 2 months, tried garlic, acidophilus, yogurt, apple cider vinegar, folic acid and Vit E supplements, and finally, relucantely and hopefully, resorted to Canesten (Monistat) creams, and even took 2 diflucan (flucanazole) pills twice over 2 weeks and.... noooo it's coming back.I haven't found the cure yet but I think I'm onto something. I am out of options aside from going on the candida diet for longer period of time than 2 months.
I think probiotics hold the key but it has to be the right probiotics - L. Reuteri and L. Rhamnosus. You have to get your vagina back in balance with the yeast and have to build up good bacteria and get your pH back to the right level (which is more acidic). I found a product called Femdophilus that seems to have rave reviews on amazon.com. I found a product that I can order in Australia with the same strains, (Nature's Way Reuteri Pearl). I REALLY REALLY think I'm onto something and I didn't want to miss sharing it. I promise I will report back in 2 months, but I'm sure it can't hurt to try a different probiotic so if anyone else wants to try one now and report back as well. If anything, look at the reviews on amazon.com for the Femdophilus. I've never seen so many positive comments about one thing."
10/08/2011: Alley from Sydney, Australia replies: "Also, get yourself a home Vaginal pH test. This can help you determine whether it is a bacterial or yeast infection. However it won't tell you if you have an STI, so do go to the doctor if this could be the case."
12/29/2011: Alley from Sydney, Nsw replies: "Update: CURED. My home pH test was alkaline and tipped me off that it may be bacterial rather than yeast. Went to a different doctor, told her all my symptoms inc results of the pH test, got a pelvic exam and a swab done - it was in fact bacterial. Took the antibiotics as prescibed, have been cured for 2 months now. I still take probiotics with reuteri strain daily. Nothing alone but the antibiotics worked for me.Get a proper diagnosis!"

I read about garlic pessaries before (1 clove tied up in cheesecloth) and it had worked in the past so i tried it again. I was always skeptical of the yogurt thing but in desperation tried it and it worked IMMEDIATELY. so now, 2 acidophilus pills orally, garlic pessaries at night/8-10 HRS and topical and internal yogurt as needed for discomfort. I always hated yogurt but I thank god for it now."

[YEA] 08/26/2009: Lana from Morris Plains, Nj writes: "Yeast Infection: A combination of Acidophilus, vitamin C, and hydrogen peroxide. I took 3 different kinds of Acidophilus on the first day I noticed the infection, each with 2x their normal doses (one full daily dose of each in the morning and evening). I also inserted Acidophilus the first night i noticed the infection, two of the different kinds (capsules) I had on hand. Since one of the three brands was chewable I decided not to use it like that. Then I would insert Acidophilus in both the morning and before i went to bed. I took about 4000 mgs of vitamin C each day. The last thing I did was put Hydrogen peroxide on my labia to relieve the itching. It stings for a minute, but after it is sweet relief. After the first night of this regimen there was about 90% less discharge and much less itching.
I was amazed that i was almost completely cured in just one day.
So, in total the plan is-
1) a double dose of more than one brand of Acidophilus
2) Insert acidophilus twice daily, in the morning and before bed. But I think the gel capsules are best for inserting into the vagina.
3) 4000 mgs of vitamin C each day. I took up to about 8000 mgs a day, but in some people that much vitamin C can give you a stomach ache.
4) Hydrogen Peroxide on a cotton ball swiped over all the itchy parts. I used it whenever I itched and after each time i used the bathroom.
I was about 90% better IN ONE DAY!"

[YEA] 12/02/2010: Sharon from San Antonio, Tx writes: "Cure for a Yeast Infection: Acidophilus pills, Vitamin E, and Folic Acid. I struggled for about 2 years with constant burning in the vaginal area. I need to stress here that all I had was burning. Hardly any discharge, not the cottage cheese type, and NO itching!
It started with what I thought was a UTI. My doctor gave me antibiotics. It didn't work. Long story short, I took around 7 different antibiotics in about 3 months. Doctor just kept trying different ones. Please don't ever do this. It messed up my digestive system big time. I went to a naturopath next. Nothing helped. After 2 years passed with constant burning and going to a few different doctors, a new doctor finally diagnosed me with a resistant strain of yeast. I took 6 rounds of Diflucan. Didn't work. The doctor's last resort was boric acid suppositories. Didn't work.
I had pretty much given up until, by the grace of God, I read in a food/nutritin book about how Vitamin E kills yeast. I had also read here on Earthclinic how alot of women with Bacterial Vaginosis get relief by taking Acidophilus and Folic Acid. So, I took them all together. 2 Acidophilus, 1 200IU Vitamin E, and 1 Folic 400mg Folic Acid morning and night. Within a few days I felt a little better. I was hopeful. The burning wasn't as bad, but still there. I imagine 2 years of burning would take awhile to heal. After a month, I knew the combination was definitely working. I took it for 3 months. Then, gradually took it less and less. It has been gone for a long time.
And here is the kicker: At my next GYN appointment, I told the doctor what finally cured me. She then told me how she read about a very small study that tested the SAME EXACT combination I took and yes, it worked. I was FLOORED! She said big pharm doesn't do those kinds of studies (No way for them to make money off of vitamins). So, alot of people won't know about what has been found. So, I am telling you my own experience. I hope this will help someone else. This period in my life was horrific. It affected my family, marriage, and my overall health. I am still dealing with the physical effects of the stress and anxiety. It was so defeating to have this burning, but no one could tell me what it was. I credit the Lord for showing what I needed to take. I did pray for those two years and couldn't understand why God wouldn't heal me. The journey wound bringing me closer to God than I have ever been and I feel this is what He wanted from me all the while. I realize some people may downplay this aspect of my healing, but I am here to say I am living proof. May God Bless You! "

As I have advanced in years and after menopause I find that dryness, burning and felling of hotness in vagina has increase, becoming really bad during intercourse. I have had many infections but I never consider this to be an infection. I would like to take the combination of Acidophilus, vitamin e, and folic acid to at least try to help myself. Could you tell me the quantity of acidophilus that you use. I already have the vitamin e and folic acid. I would appreciate it. Thank you"

Went through 3 courses of Terconazole that only worsen my symptoms, and 2 courses of Moinstat and only got worst. Tried the garlic insertion and felt I was getting worst. Inserting yogurt caused what trully looks like yeast infection where before I only had discharge, but I felt it didn't really resembled yeast although the test came back positive. I'm dealing with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and know that unless I can fight it off to begin with my chances are slim. I bought expensive 500 billion probiotic but it worsen my symptoms and I'm afraid to take it further. What brands did you find best? My main symptom now is burning with minimal discharge. Thank you,"

06/10/2011: Alex from Tucson, Az replies: "I have had a yeast infection for about 8 months now. I feel incredibly better than I used to, though it is still not cured. Check out yeastinfectionadvisor.com though - lots of good information. I am following the candida diet and am currently taking Syntol (which has enzymes in it that is supposed to break down the yeast cell walls) and CP1 probiotics and Vaginal Flora probiotics. I take about 500 billion a day of 11 different strains. I think that the diet and these medications/probiotics have been hugely beneficial to me. You need to do the diet and not eat any sugar/breads/carbs. Also, keep in mind that your chronic fatigue might also be caused by yeast... I can't even tell you how tired and irritable the yeast was making me. Now that I am feeling much better, I also have way more energy and am less irritable. Your symptoms also will get worse before they get better - more discharge and more irritibility might mean that you are killing the yeast. So don't give up on things right away.I think I'm going to try the vitamin E and folic acid thing."

I took the pills last march, but did not refrigerate it. I thot I was cured but now the yeast is back, maybe it had less effect as I did not refrigerate it. ANTI-FUNGAL REMEDIES OR MEDICATION

[YEA] 03/30/2008: Christopher from Kirkland Lake, ON writes: "A few years ago i worked in a kitchen environment and a candy store. Ok obviously i had a bad diet... i developped a rash on the side of my hand. water made it worse and perhaps the plastic gloves for candy didnt help. this rash persisted for over half a year and disappeared only by moving up my pinkie. there it became obvious that aside from cracking skin that there were tiny pimple like bumps.
My dad got me cortisone cream and it flared. apparently i found out at that time that cortisone feeds yeast! i got to thinking i had a yeast infection on my hand!!! i did try ACV it brought relief but i think the infection was too deep. Or that the ACV would of worked better mixed with a cream... it would clear to reemerge once the skin became dryer again. I was so convinced it was a yeast infection...
One day i told my dentist what i thought and she helped me get some cold sore medication... nyaderm/betaderm.. just to say it was antifungal!!! after 3 days the rash never came back.... i know its not a natural cure but just to say had i made a something with garlic or you know something antifungal the rash would of left.
since that time ive formed a belief that almost all health problems stem from mycotoxins or fungus/yeast living in human tissue. i still have a coated tongue and in my best efforts have only been able to partially clear it up. sucking on a tablet for candida did clear it up for a few hours, enough for hope but yeah thats expensive."
Replies12/18/2010: Maggie from Kansas City, Ks replies: "For Thrush, the white coating in your mouth, I have found a good way to stop it for me. First, I brush my teeth as normal in the morning. Important! Upon waking do not swallow any spit (sorry). The spit (IMO) is FULL of candida, the white stuff, especially in the mornings. If I swallow anything, it fuels my gut candida and virginia candida overgrowth, I think. But, anyway, the second crucial part is this: I get some Listerine, or store brand of it, and put in a normal cup-full of it in my mouth. Now, for the fun part! I brush my teeth again gently - the gums, the nooks, the crannys, the toungue, back of the mouth as far as I can get, etc. - to get as much surfaces in my mouth brushed with the mouthwash in there. Yes, I lean over the sink and tend to drool, but I've gotten better at it with practice. My eyes can water from the sting, since it takes me over a minute to get all my surfaces, but I figure the tears go down the back of my throat and help wash things. I end up rinsing and rinsing with water afterwards just to get rid of the stinging, but its all worth it. I have found that the stubborn white coating cant be rinsed with just a half a minute of swishing; it needs to be brushed out!The benefit of doing this twice a day for a couple days and then daily for a week or so gives me great results all through my body. This means that my digestion returns to normal (no longer constipated) and my vaginal yeasty beasty virgina dies down. In addition, I do take Femdophilus (refrigerated acidophilus from Whole Foods) twice/three times a day when I have a flair. (Once at night normally). I also take Azo Yeast (from any drug store) 4 times a day with a flair (twice a day normally). I have taken Diflucan in the past, once daily for thirty days to get rid of candida. This regimen works just as good for me! The only times I seem to have a flair now-a-days is when I run out of the Azo or the 'dophilus for more than a couple days. You'd think I'd learn..."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 12/03/2011: Debbie from Fernandina Beach, Fl writes: "I have been suffering with vaginal irritation for over 10 weeks. Went to the doctor before Thanksgiving and it was determined as BV not YI, however, then the antibiotic charged up a massive YI. I tried the Apple Cider Vinegar douche, Apple Cider Vinegar drink and acidophilus this evening. I do feel some external relief but I am still itching inside rather badly. Will do this again in the morning. Hoping for the best. Thanks so much for this site."
Replies01/18/2012: C. C. from Indianapolis, In replies: "Soooo I was put on antibiotics for my BV and it threw me into a wicked yeast infection. Yes I said wicked. I took the diflucan but everyone knows it takes it at least 3 days to began to feel any relief. I was trying to work and the itching, burning and stinging was driving me insane! I was so miserable I wanted to cry. It was not only itching like crazy but it hurt and burned to the point where I could barely sit. I searched the web for something to relieve the symptoms and came across the ACV info.Desperate and willing to try anything I made the purchase, went home and put it in a spray bottle with some lukewarm water *Never-minding the measuring because I was so uncomfortable* Well, I honestly didn't expect it to work but once I started spritzing I felt IMMEDIATE relief from the itching. I simply sat on the toilet and started spraying. I sprayed so that it would run down and saturate all of my "parts" (I know... Tmi) but it felt soooo good. It did sting a bit, but I dabbed myself dry and laid across the bed to let it air dried. After 5 minutes I had relief. I was able to enjoy the rest of my evening. I got up this morning and felt the itchiness (not nearly as bad as the previous morning).... But I had none of the cottage cheese discharge. I showered and treated myself to another spritzer on the toilet and I was able to come to work today feeling 90% better than I did yesterday.
Now as I sit typing, I only feel a mild discomfort. I am going to do another spritzer when I get home and once again in the morning although something tells me that by tomorrow It'll all be gone away. I wish I would have known about this sooner because anyone who has ever suffered from a vaginal yeast infection knows you would rather have someone jab you in the eye with a blunt object than to suffer this pain. From now on, when I feel an infection coming on, I know what I'll reach for.... My handy little spray bottle :)"

I tried everything, including all the so called cures online. Nothing would touch this infection until last night, when I was at my wit's end with this thing.
I bought a small bottle of ACV from Walmart for .64 cents. I used it last night, and again this morning, the infection not only burned, itched, and aggravated me, but upset my balanced lifestyle.
The ACV really works, for those of you who may be skeptics. I like most women, tried the monostate, the vagi-guard, creams, garlic, etc.
I'm so thankful for the ACV, this infection is brought on by yeast, and too much sugar and bacteria in the body, the diabetes doesn't help that's for sure, and the infection is something I've never had before in my life.
It's not pleasant, and is the most serious and disturbing thing that's ever happened to me healthwise.
If you're running out of ideas, time, and patience, like I was, you must try the ACV, you sure can't beat the price, and the results are amazing. Stop wasting your money, time and effort on creams, that are messy, and garlic, it's a waste of time!
The ACV is a true cure and blessing, Thank you, so much! Sandy"

Little bit of burn at first but nothing unbearable. The results were AMAZING! About 30 minutes later I already felt a huge relief. Probably 70% better which isn't bad after a month of the YI. This morning I woke up and did the douche again with 75% ACV and 25% water. Then I applied the cotton swab soaked in ACV to the labia area. Again the results were amazing! This is the first time in a month that I am sitting at my desk not squirming around because of the intense itching and burning. I had tried the OTC inserts prior and it would mask the symptoms but they would come right back as soon as I stopped the treatment. So far this is proving to be a great natural cure."

I'm sure it was due to high stress, sodas every evening for days and working as a landscaper in soaked clothing after a rainstorm. I didn't realize what it was until it had gotten quite bad and the vaginal skin was bleeding. I went right to the ACV and dabbed a 1:1 mixure onto the outer vagina and it has kept the yeast under control however there was still yeast problems in the internal vagina.
So inserted an all cotton organic tampon leaving it just slightly protruding outside the vagina. While sitting in my empty bathtub I poured a diluted mixure of ACV/water over the vagina to soak the tampon and then pushed it farther in. I used about 1 tsp ACV/cup water but will strengthen it next time. I left it in for about 2 hours and when I took it out it was covered in yeast. I have not itched at all for the last 12 hours. I'm going to continue this until it is completely cured, which I don't think will take too long. Good Luck."

I also have been taking acidophilus and garlic supplements, and I also started inserting a garlic clove vaginally at bedtime. I don't know what finally made it go away, or how much the whole combination helped, but I literally had been unable to have sex for the past few months due to stinging pain, and I had felt unbearable itching and burning every single day. I cannot believe that it is gone.My boyfriend and I have had sex twice in the past day, and I am pain free. It is amazing.
