NO OILS, NO SWEETENERS

[YEA] 03/27/2009: Gean from Salina, KS writes: "Hi, I would just like to share my recent experience with weight loss. A few months ago I had read about the Budwig diet where you mix cottage cheese and flax oil, how it helps with all kinds of ailments, including auto-immune disease, etc. So loving to experiment, I thought I'd try it. I had up to 4 Tblsp. flax oil a day with cottage cheese. I stayed on this for a couple months, during which I put on 8-10 lbs. I stopped the regiment and tried to lose the weight. Very healthy diet (whole food, vegetarian), little food, lots of food, no suppers, light suppers, exercise, occasional fasts, you name it. Nothing helped. I also tried the "good oil" theory (virgin coconut oil, cod liver oil), and I only put on more weight. ACV, and same.
Then I decided to go on a no free fat diet (no oils of any kind), and no sweeteners of any kind (no honey, molasses, nothing), but I wasn't fanatical if there was a little oil or honey in my bread. I was very careful not to put butter on my bread, no oil on veges, nothing like that. I also stopped any and all stimulants or spices, or anything fermented such as soy sauce, sauerkraut, ACV, etc. Of course no artificial stuff like pop. The first week I didn't notice anything. But the second week I lost 9 lbs. and I feel fantastic. I'm at the end of the second week. I have zero food cravings and eat my fill of whole foods with no free fats or sugars (meaning I eat fresh fruit, some dried fruit, and fats in their natural form such as olives, avocados and nuts (I eat small amounts of even natural fats, as they will overload your liver). I don't drink water with my meals, only between meals. I eat a light supper of a piece of toast (whole grain of course) and a pc. of fruit, around 5 or 6 pm. For breakfast and lunch I eat until I am full.
My conclusion was that the free fats were blocking proper hormonal function, and as long as I was doing that no amount of dieting would work. Now that the hormones are balanced, I don't have to starve, I feel great.
I hope this helps someone."
[YEA] 02/23/2011: Gean from Salina, Ks replies: "Hi, just to let everyone know who is really serious about weight loss that it is possible that ingestion of dietary fat could very well cause insulin resistance in some people, which blocks weight loss. Maybe not for everyone but it's worth a try. Even good fats and high fat natural foods such as nuts and avocados must be eaten very sparingly. Some may disagree but it works for me every time. If I continue to eat more than a very small amount of even good fats, it doesn't matter how little food I eat or how much I exercise, the inches pile up around the middle. When I go off fats the inches melt off within a week or two. I eat plenty of whole grains, potatoes, legumes, fruits, vegetables, and small amount of nuts. You won't go hungry eating this. I would love to hear of someone else who can't lose weight despite their best efforts trying this."

NO WHEAT, NO SUGAR

[YEA] 03/28/2009: Katie from Marietta, GA writes: "A whole grain bread company had opened up in our town which my husband and I discovered in January. So delicious, it became an addiction. Each week I'd go and buy a loaf of multi-grain bread and some whole grain muffins and fruit bars. I'd only have one slice of bread per day, but before I knew it I gained 4 pounds which I found impossible to take off. I cut back on calories, but I still had to have my one delicious slice of bread every day. At the same time that I gained the pounds, I also started looking older and unhealthy all of a sudden, which I couldn't understand since I eat very healthy food with lots of vegetables every day and exercise 5x a week. Anyway, a week ago I decided enough was enough and went on an anti-candida diet. I cut out all wheat and sugar from my diet. No more delicious bread! In the 7 days that I started my no wheat, no sugar diet, I have lost 4 pounds and look/feel much more healthy. My skin is glowing too. Now it wasn't like I ate a lot of sugar before starting on my diet, but I did have a teaspoon of brown sugar in tea about 4x a day. And then I was only eating 1 slice of bread a day. Not a lot, but even these small quantities were reaking havoc on my body.
I hope everyone who is having trouble losing weight will consider eliminating those 2 things from your diet. The results are fast and remarkable!"
Replies03/28/2009: Robert from Manhattan, New York replies: "This may be due the quick rise in blood glucose levels shortly after eating. Mulberry leaf will help lessen the effects of sugar spikes. Good for diabetics, but let your doctor know..."

OLIVE OIL
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 02/03/2009: Dave from Conroe, TX writes: "Olive Oil (remedy) Weight Loss (ailment)
I have searched this site and found nothing yet about the Shangri-La Diet created by Seth Roberts in 2005.
The bottom line is that foods with a high flavor concentration raise the body's set point and cause rapid weight gain. His idea is to counter this effect by consuming calories with as little flavor as possible to convince your body it's time to shed the pounds.
To this end he recommends taking 2TBSP of olive oil first thing in the morning before consuming ANY calories and then waiting about an hour before eating. You can drink water but no other consumption until the calories have been absorbed.
He says you can repeat this a couple times a day and then only eat when you are hungry which will likely be never since your body no longer tells you to eat.
So here's the story: Two years ago I tried it and had impressive results. I noted a significant reduction in my appetite and lost about 15 pounds in a month. Often I could feel my stomach rumbling but I was in no way actually hungry. Like it had actually turned off my appetite completely. AWESOME.
Here's the rub: After a few weeks I found that the olive oil made me gag. Like my body simply did not want it. After a while I couldn't even think about taking it. Even when I forced it down I would throw it up. Obviously I still wasn't hungry, but I was also unable to continue the program.
Here's my question: Has anyone else A)heard of this diet, b)tried this diet, c)experienced this problem, d)overcome this problem, e)got any advice?
I look forward to other's feedback"
[NAY] 12/13/2009: Cdrgnlady from Richmond, Va replies: "I read about taking olive oil in a magazine and decided to try. Took daily in AM for a couple of weeks ( article had no resrictions for waiting until absorbed before consuming anything else). Found I grew increasingly uncomfortable w/taste & feel of swallowing oil - after just 2 weeks I couldn't stand to take it anymore and stopped."
12/13/2009: Dott from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida replies: "You didn't say if you lost any weight with the olive oil; I'd be curious to know.
For a change of pace, you might try using extra virgin coconut oil-- You will know that it is EVCO because it will still smell like coconut, and may have a slight coconut taste as well.
I have been using it off and on for a few months, and have lost about 18# to date. The things I like about the coconut oil are it's effects and it's versatility. It's my breakfast and bedtime treat. You can get very creative with extra virgin coconut oil. If I don't feel like taking it straight, I can always mix it in with my breakfast oatmeal-- great with banana; or add a little cinnamon and make a spread for my toast; or make a hot chocolate, add e.v.c.o. and a little bit of almond extract to that creamy hot chocolate and have myself a "hot candy bar" breakfast/bedtime treat; or warm it and mix it with a tiny bit of honey and maple syrup to top a couple whole wheat & cottage cheese pancakes. Just a few possible suggestions for you.
My dose is low; just 2 Tablespoons a day, morning and evening---I'm taking it slow. Others use more. EVCO will definitely rev up a sluggish thyroid, and by making such yummy treats with it, you hardly miss the rest of the snacks that you no longer crave thanks to the coconut oil. It has also helped me greatly with such nagging problems as heartburn, constipation, joint aches, chapped lips, and completely rid me of those darn short, flaky fingernails besides!! I love this stuff."
07/16/2010: Viorel from Bucharest, Romania replies: "The Shangri-La 'diet' does work for many people (myself included); what was not mentioned in the first post is that regular or extra-virgin olive oil will not work as well because they have strong flavors and the idea is to take oil that has little or no flavor. People have had success with extra-light olive oil, grape seed oil and walnut oil."

[YEA] 03/07/2008: Missy from Toronto, Ontario, Canada writes: "I researched a tea product that was promoted on Opra as a miracle weight loss. It turns out it was Oolong Tea. I purchased Organic Oolong for myself and a few of my friends as a gift and we all started drinking a couple of cups a day. Lo & Behold, we were loosing weight without changing our sensible diet and without the laxative or diuretic effects of other weight loss teas. People have been commenting to all of us that our faces look slimmer and all of us have lost inches from our waistlines. You will notice very quick results provided you eat a sensible diet. Avoid fried, greasy foods, pastries and watch the weight easily fall off!"

RAW FOOD DIET

[YEA] 03/21/2009: Laura from Marathon, WI USA writes: "I signed up for a 10-day raw food cleanse and extended it to 14 days, incorporating green smoothies (yum!!!) I noticed a big difference in how I felt as well as how I looked. My tight pants were loose on me in this very short period of time. I did not break the cleanse well, and ended up in bad habits. Maybe if I had been working out I would have stuck with the healthier life style. But I ended up going back to my "old" self. I'm getting back on the bandwagon because I know it works and it's the best for my body. Wish I could convince my family to want to follow along. Makes it difficult when someone else brings home junk food. My will power has little to be desired!!!"

Since then, I have made a major change in my diet even though I had eaten very well before without white flours, sugars and the other problem foods for many years. Now I am eating raw vegan foods and have not only finally dropped almost 40 pounds but my blood sugar levels are down to the mid-90s. I credit eating a raw food lifestyle with all this! My thyroid numbers are also in the more normal range! Lots of good changes that I believe eating a raw food lifestyle made happen."

I am breastfeeding my 11mnths old child. In my first pregnancy I gained a lot of weight and I'm finding difficult to reduce the same. Weight gained during my 2nd pregnancy has reduced however. Now I weigh 85 kgs and my height is 5 feet 4 inches. I have to reduce to at least 68 kgs. I have started gettng pains in my knee and feet due to overweight.
I have heard that apple cider vinegar helps in reducing weight.
How should I intake it?
Also will it affect my child since I'm feeding him?
Is there any other means to lose weight?
I am doing yoga and stretching execrcise but my weight loss is very slow and I generally lose inches only.
Kindly guide,
Thanks"
Replies12/06/2011: Louwrence from Rustenburg, North West South Africa replies: "Hi Vgk, All you have to do is eliminate all starches from your diet but that is going to be very difficult for you because rice is probably your staple diet. Also eliminate cabbage as that suppresses your thyroid which is responsible for your metabolism. Good luck."

10/22/2009: Mrs Cloud from Dallas, Usa writes: "Several years ago, following a stressful move and while starting a stressful new job, I suddenly started packing on the pounds--thirty pounds in 6 months! I have always been naturally slender, could what I wanted, never dieted and never fluctuated more than a few pounds in weight. Now, five years later (and much less stress in my life!!), I am sixty pounds overweight despite daily exercise (walking 3-4 mi. at a brisk pace) and a very healthy diet (no junk food, almost everything is homemade, no sweets, no sodas or sugary drinks). My doc determined that I was borderline hypothyroid but that does not seem to explain why I cannot lose weight...I am so frustrated.
I recently started 50 mg per day Iodoral on the theory that fluoride may be the problem.
Any other advice from readers would be greatly appreciated!"
10/23/2009: Sharik from Arcata, California replies: "To Mrs. Cloud from Dallas:Simply because your blood test says you're "borderline hypo" does NOT mean that one size fits all! Talk to your Dr. about trying Synthroid (I hope that will pass the site, as there are other pills out there that don't work as well). It's just about the only pill I do recommend. My blood tests always say I'm low on my dosage, but if I take more, I find myself crawling across the ceiling. (As in very hyper.) We were not punched out by a cookie cutter and each person has the responsibility of fighting for his/her health and what is best for them. I have Hashimoto's disease, and have been dealing with this for over half my life (I'm 67), and it certainly sounds like that might be the problem. There isn't anything out there in the natural world I have found (and I've looked!) that is safe and effective for thyroid problems, but the Synthroid has worked for me for over 33 years.
Wouldn't hurt to drink and cook with distilled water. It's been found that there's a lot more in your water than they report, all of it bad. I get mine by the gallon at my local grocery store.
Hope this helps.
Peace, Sharik"
10/23/2009: Mrs Cloud from Dallas, Tx replies: "Hi Sharik,Thanks so much for your kind reply. Yes, I have been taking Synthroid for almost 2 years. It reduced the antibodies. That is the only reason I was diagnosed borderline--I had antibodies even though my numbers looked ok for TSH. Anyway, I recently stopped the meds because they do not make me feel better and I am now more than 20 lbs heavier than when I started them. I gained five pounds this week alone and I have no idea how! It was very stormy so I did not do my morning walk and we had family in town so I had a few more beer and wine than usual, but even my dad says he cannot believe I do not lose weight because I eat very little compared to my skinny family.
Thank you again for your comments. I am trying 50 mg Iodoral and ACV diluted in warm water each morning with honey and cinnamon (instead of coffee). Cooking with coconut oil or taking it in yogurt.
I am at wit's end...."
10/24/2009: Sharik from Arcata, California replies: "To Mrs. Cloud of Dallas:If you have antibodies, you have Hashimoto's disease, and nasty little disorder where the body in effect becomes allergic to its OWN thyroid hormone. It will produce antibodies against its own thyroid tissue. (I come from a long line of sufferers.) Have you had an iodine absorption test? Taking iodine in any form (I prefer kelp and iodized salt) doesn't do any good if the thyroid can't absorb it
As to the Synthroid, it can take as much as 6 months to find the correct dosage (it took my mother almost two years, but that was back in the 50's) and the dosage doesn't always remain the same so that you have to adjust it over time (both up and down). If I could recommend a book that I use (always) it might help you understand Hashimoto's. It's called 'Prescription for Nutritional Healing' by Phyllis A. Balch (EC: I am in no way connected to the writing, publishing or selling of the book.) There is a nasty little side effect of an underactive thyroid called myxedema coma and is exactly what it sounds like. Poor Mom would lie down for an afternoon nap, go into a coma and have to be taken to the hospital for a day or two. This happened on a regular basis during the two years it took for the Dr.s to find the right dosage, but don't forget, that was almost 50 year ago and, hopefully, things ( and medicine) have improved somewhat. Although you couldn't prove it by me..... Oh, by the way. Mom gained weight during this period, but lost it all when they found the right dosage. But she had to cut out the beer to do it.
If you would like to correspond privately, ask EC for my email. I'll be glad to help any way that I can.
Peace, Sharik"
08/19/2011: Sarah from Dallas, Tx replies: "To Mrs Cloud: the same thing happened to me! I had been slender my whole life. Then after my 2nd/ and last baby was born, I never lost the last 10 lbs. Then the move, and my new work in Texas were terribly stressful and I got borderline overweight, even though I ate barely enough to keep going, and walked a lot. What finally worked, and I have lost 20 lbs since, is keeping a food journal. I noticed that food I thought would surely make me gain, like beef, chocolate, Snickers bars, etc. --did not!! I noticed that any food that contained soy, cabbage, broccoli (even cooked), peaches, etc. would cause me to gain 2 lbs overnight. As these are goitrogens, I got 2 tsh tests done, and they both came back normal.
At the same time, my instincts told me to quit eating wheat. Turns out, a wheat sensitivity can cause our bodies to attack our thyroids--because the proteins in both are very similar. I eat a lot of mexican food, keep corn tortillas on hand, and cook and refrigerate a week's worth of whole grain rice at a time. Basically, my healthy carbs are corn, rice, and potatoes.
Two years later, goitrogenic foods only make me gain 1 lb overnight--I think my body is healing. Also, I avoid using bleach, drink only Culligan water (refilled at any grocery)--not tap. What's weird is Bath and Body body spray made me gain also--but I couldn't figure out why. Vitamin D will also help compensate for thyroid trouble--I take a 2000 IU gel cap daily."

RHODIOLA

[YEA] 05/10/2009: Patricia from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada writes: "I've been taking Rhodiola for 5 weeks and have increased energy and have lost about 15 pounds that I have been struggling with for the last 5 years. I have had breast cysts that have disappeared and my memory has definitely improved. 6 weeks ago I attempted to climb the 7 flights of stairs to my condo when the elevator was out. I had to stop and rest at each floor. Today I take the stairs instead of the elevator without stopping at all.
When I started taking Rhodiola, my daughter had told me about it but I didn't know much about the herb only that it would give me an energy boost that I really needed. The only negative factor that I have experienced is insomnia, so now I make sure that I don't take the herb after about 3pm. I take 2 - 250 mg per day. One in the morning as soon as I get up with 10 oz of warm distilled water and the juice of 1/2 freshly squeezed lemon, and one around 3pm at my work breaktime with lots of water."

SAFFLOWER OIL

[YEA] 02/16/2010: Ali from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada writes: "This week I began using 2 tsp. daily of safflower oil used in food, along with a sensible diet. A recent study suggested this was helpfull in weight loss, especially belly fat. I lost two lbs. which I was happy with, all I changed was to cut all simple sugars from my diet however, I did enjoy fruit, one or two per day whenever a craving for sweets hit, usually an apple, pear or berries. I already used only 100% whole wheat or whole grain bread and pasta but I changed the bread to sour dough rye, wasn't crazy about the taste when used plain but scrumptious when toasted and drizzled with a little virgin olive oil and a little safflower oil and some all natural peanut butter sprinkled with fresh ground flax seed. I added a peeled apple with a good dash of cinnimon. I had this every morning for my breakfast. It is a good idea to have at least two or three cups of green tea daily, I made sure to have at least two cups, if you don't like the tea just take one 140 mg.capsule daily. Take it easy on how much dairy you consume, I had lite feta and a few sprinkles of parmesan on my pasta, also a small amount of chedder sometimes, couldn't resist as it is one of my weaknesses. It was not difficult for me as I normally have a large salad every day, sometimes with a small amount of lean meat or fish as a main course or a smaller one with a sandwich for lunch. Evening meal is lean meat or fish with lots of lightly steamed vegtables and about 3/4 cup brown rice, pasta or sweet potato and small salad if I need a little extra. I also have a large glass of spring or filtered water with juice of a quarter lemon squeezed in.
Is there anyone else who is using this protocol? If so what has been your experience? Also how long have you been using it and is two lbs a week a realistic goal in the long term? Any feedback would be appreciated. Oh yes, I also take a good multi vit. with extra vit. D3 in winter. Thanks Earth Clinic and also cuddos to all who post info. All the best, Ali"

SIMPLE DIET

[YEA] 03/06/2006: Mary from Nevada City writes: "I used lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne about 15 years ago to try and lose weight - I did it for three days and I was about ready to line my kids up against the wall and fire. Not really - wouldn't do that...But this made me so hungry and edgy! It is not for everyone. I gave up and just went back to eating. Plus - these radical plans ALWAYS backfired on me and whacked my metabolism eve more - so it was even harder to lose weight. I still deal with weight issues (about 20 pounds over) but I find that I lose weight the best is when I am actually trying to heal my asthma...So - it is a simple diet - mostly fresh fruits and veggies - or steamed, plus an egg or two and one serving of brown rice a day. So - when I am sick with asthma -I REALLY want to be well and I stick with this and I lose weight. This time I need to stick with it past the asthma season. Plus I am adding in kelp now- this should help all three issues: Thyroid, asthma and weight."

URINE THERAPY
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 05/22/2011: Yogagirl from Orange County, Ca writes: "After researching the benefits of urine on this website and others, I finally mustered up the courage to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised.
I was 30 pounds overweight and always feeling bloated, my stomach would get in the way when I bent over and it was hard, like I was pregnant. At 54 years of age, I knew pregnancy was not the problem. I was really frustrated because whatever I did, I could not lose weight. It did not matter if I ate nothing for a few days, I never lost weight. I only gained. I had three different sizes of clothes in my closet as I gradually progressed to bigger and bigger sizes.
Before starting the urine therapy, I was very constipated. The urine therapy, fasting for 24 hours on urine only, cured that immediately. For the next few days, I went to the bathroom and went and went and went. I could feel my stomach getting smaller as time went by. Although I continued drinking urine every morning, the constipation came back again after a couple of weeks
I had gotten a book, The Water of Life, by J W Armstrong, who advocated urine fasting, urine enemas, urine massages, and of course, urine drinking. He maintained you could cure any health problem by following urine therapy and provides case histories in his book. So I tried the urine enemas, and they did the job. I had to resort to them several times, but you just felt clean inside after doing them. I really feel they kickstarted my body back into working again. I felt this feeling of something moving near my heart area, kind of a scraping sensation, and I was trying to research what organs were in the heart area, or was I having a heart attack. It was not a heart attack, as I am still alive and feeling better than ever. I do feel that something was plugged up and it started moving again.
I started saving excess urine and started bathing in it, with a gallon of urine to a tub of water. It really helped my varicose veins, as it stimulates the circulation and helps get rid of blockages. After soaking in a urine bath for about an hour, I had to scrape my skin because all this dark material would start coming out of my skin, I think it was all of the impurities in my skin. I would have to do the urine baths twice a week because it would take a while to accumulate urine for a bath. In the meantime, my skin was trying to get rid of the impurities in it, so I ended up having very itchy skin between baths. Soaking in the urine baths always got rid of the itches. And I always felt thinner after taking the baths, and really clean. Your skin feels noticeably softer. And you do not smell like urine after bathing in it. It is supposed to be beneficial for your hair too, and help to keep your hair from going gray, although my hair is still gray.
In short, it has been six months since I started the urine therapy and I could not be more delighted with the results. At virtually no cost, my wrinkles are less, my weight is less, my varicose veins are less, my bloated stomach has gone way down, my skin is softer. I have always been very healthy, but I just feel great now like I did in my 40's. I have a desk job so I sit for eight hours a day, and my knees started locking up right before I started the urine therapy. That is no longer a problem.
Just a few words of caution, I have not eaten beef or pork for about twenty years (not recommended by Edgar Cayce), but I do eat lamb, chicken and fish. Chicken can give your urine a bitter taste, lamb makes it taste really good, like a good broth. If you try urine therapy, you may want to modify your food choices so you can tolerate your therapy a little better. Your skin does get really itchy with the urine therapy, but the itchiness does go away eventually and your skin is really clear after that."
Replies05/22/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Interesting post. I haven't actually read a book about urine therapy so far but I would be curious as whether you could answer this question which I have posted several times already. I would be afraid to try to drink urine because of the fact that when you go for an urine test they see whether you are ill by what comes out of your body. Wouldn't you be drinking it again? Take a bladder infection for example, would you want to drink what comes out? By the way, maybe it would be good if you could post your comments on the book your read on the book review page? I am looking for a good one if ever I decide to give it a try."
05/25/2011: Yogagirl from Orange County, Ca replies: "That's a great question, and one that was covered very thoroughly in the book, The Water of Life. J W Armstrong, the author, advocated drinking the urine in whatever condition it was in on leaving the body. It could be cloudy, bloody, it didn't really matter. In one case, a patient with heavy fluid buildup in his body was unable to produce any urine, so the author provided his own urine for the patient to drink, and that primed the pump, so to speak, and the patient was then able to urinate in great quantity. The author's mode of treatment was to put the patient on a urine fast to cleanse the body and urine massages to cleanse the skin. The patient was required to drink all of the urine that was produced and as much water as the patient cared to drink, and that was it, until the body had cleansed itself and recovered. The urine ran clear when the patient had recovered.
After you see the benefit of urine therapy, you stop thinking of it as a waste product and start thinking of it as a natural resource. After all, urine is what is running through our veins, prior to being filtered through the kidneys and expelled. "

VEGETABLE OILS
04/10/2010: Andy from Sydney, Nsw writes: "Hi Ted
I am interested in what vegetable oils we should avoid when cooking and adding to raw salads????
I consume olive oil over vegetables and cook with it on a daily basis. I also take flaxseed oil every morning on my breakfast......I always believed that these were the good oils.......????? Now I'm not too sure.
I have read many of your emails suggesting to avoid vegetable oils.....can you please forgive my ignorance on this Ted and enlighten me as to which vegetable oils you are referring and why they should be avoided.
I value your input Ted and have been greatly educated via your informative postings!! Most of all you have a knack to explain things in simple terms so that lay people like myself can actually understand your explanations!!
Many thanks ANDY"

Need your expertise. I know Ted wants to avoid using vegetable oil for cooking. Is peanut oil, olive oil or canola oil considers vegetable oil? Thanks!"
Replies04/11/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines replies: "Hi Peter...I simply don't use any vegetable oils(polyunsaturates) anymore and haven't used even olive oil. I do this for two reasons. First the majority of all the ordinary, mass produced vegetable oils you mentioned will be chemically processed -- with chemicals like hexane, strong acids and strong alkalis -- and most are heated to high temperatures and then are deodorized with even more chemicals.
The same goes for ALL margarines. Most margarines are made from vegetable oils -- which are always liquid at room temperature. So the chemical process involved with margarines must also involve adding impurities to make it hard at room temperature. There are always trans fats in margarines because of its processing. Margarines are also much easier to produce than butter, the chemical process is quicker, therefore more profit. I've always prefered natural butter.
Secondly, even if you do buy a so-called organic vegetable oil, how long has it been out in the open in the sun undergoing oxidation? But saturated fats -- being saturated fats -- means that you they last much longer without oxidation and you can also use them to cook at higher temperatures safely.
Perhaps the best way is to show you a fairly long article by Mary Enig, Phd -- a renowned and honest nutritional expert, researcher and vegetable oil contrarian -- that explains many of the factors why and how people's opinions were turned against the use of saturated fats to using vegetable oils. Here is the article:
The Oiling of America
And my opinion of canola oil -- better known as mass-produced rapeseed oil -- is very low indeed. I see little or no difference between growing Genetically Modified Crops and producing Chemically Modified vegetable oils. Both are man-made for profit only, and both are unnatural for the body."
04/12/2010: A from Sao Paulo, Brazil replies: "Excellent article about how corporations are actually running the US government (and through cascade effect, the rest of the world). It has been decades since these companies, with their fake paid-for studies and government sponsorship, are still convincing people to walk away from a diet that their ancestors handled quite well for thousand of years. The result is a sick, fat, and depressed society, full of health problems, and addicted to what these companies are massively producing in order to increase profit.
Wake up people. This is not the only massive case of deceit going on... Use your own observational skills and don't trust mass media. You will be surprised at what you find out."
04/13/2010: M from Muk, Wa replies: "Re: Plant oilsI am reading fast so do not know what all has gone before but glorifying our ancient past always gets my attention. I cannot actually speak for them but would think if ancient man had access to vegetable oils they would have used them.
Also they did not live as long as we do.
There is thought that prehistoric peoples ate very little meat and survived on plants as their main choice simply because they did not have the expertise to get animals and when they ate meat it usually was an animal kill which they chased the predator away and had the meat for themselves. A pretty picture thinking of them diving in grabbing something and gnawing away.
Now I expect an onslaught of non-vegetarian replies so the coward that I am I'm going to wait a few days before looking at your site again. :)
Mary"

Cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, expeller pressed UN-refined coconut oil, fish/flax/borage oil, hemp oil, sessame oil, evening primrose oil. Somewhere I heard that vinegar is really an oil. Don't eat processed, hydrogenated, heated/cooked oils. Organic, raw, unrefined, unheated, etc. Warming them is probably ok."

[YEA] 04/17/2009: FIDANE from LYNCHBURG, USA writes: "6 ONIONS
4 CARROTS
6 TOMATOS
1 1/2 KILLOS WATER
1 CELERY
you have to mince all of them together with regular soup (you can usually get this in european stores its just plain soup with nothing on it or you can do it without the soup it all depends on the taste you like)
Eat all of this for one week nothing else and I gurantee you will lose 12 or more pounds in 7 days, I lost 12 in my first week I will continue and let you know...
Good luck"
08/19/2011: Sarah from Dallas, Tx replies: "I tried to stick to this for a week, a couple of times, coming off a fast. The first day or two was great. After that, it was just impossible for me to stick to. I got hungry. I think you need more protein than this to lose weight, although it might be good for a temporary cleansing diet. What worked for me was a food journal. I noticed that beef and chocolate did not make me gain weight--surprise, surprise! But soy, cabbage (even cooked), peaches and broccoli would cause me to gain 2 lbs overnight. This points to a thyroid problem, even though my tests results are normal. OK by me--I don't take prescriptions anyway."

WALKING

[YEA] 07/08/2009: Gean from Salina, Kansas writes: "I just wanted to mention that every time I have an exercise program where I walk every morning for 1/2 hour I lose weight. When I get confident and start running, I start to gain weight. This has happened a half dozen times so I'm sure it's not coincidence. Like I just read from Dr. Mercola, the assertion that to lose weight one has to simply eat less and move more is not true. It may be true for some people, but if you have weak adrenals you will put on weight (fatty inches esp. around the waist) with aerobic exercise. Once (a few years ago) I tried eating next to nothing for 2 months and lost about 2 lbs. Then I started taking licorice root (and eating properly) and lost 7 lbs. in one week. Obviously it's all hormonal related. Of course, if someone is eating junk food all day it would be the obvious place to start to cut that out. But I know people who could eat all day and be all the skinnier for it. Some are related to me. So if you eat a healthy diet and exercise but still can't lose the inches, maybe you're exercising too hard and eating too little. Moderation in all things!"

I repeat the prosedure in the afternooon, so I drink 2 pints a day. It cures everything (my acne, sore throat, stomach ache, dry skin, sore joints...etc) I've been doing this for 3 months, and have dropped 7.5 kilograms! I <3 water! Be sure to mix it with salt and vinegar, so you don't lose vital nutrients, and sodium!"

YAM NOODLES

[YEA] 02/09/2009: Yvae from London, UK writes: "Shiratake Japanese 100% konjak asian yam noodle is 97pc water and 3pc fibre. It has the uncanny property of expanding in the stomach to give the effect of being very full. It is 20cal per 100g. I find it useful for weight loss and constipation. Also for piles as the fibe is very smooth at the exit end, compared with other products such as bran does not aggravate the situation at a time one should increase fibre intake. After a lifetime of discomfort I think this may well be the ultimate gut prouct as it is a meal, noodle comes wet- in a water bag, so preparation is minimal. Please note it has no nutritional value at all so add to meals with care to ensure balance. Carried by oriental shops and health shops, Japanese and Korean in particular, though Chinese will know what you mean at the very least."
Replies[YEA] 02/10/2009: AC from West Midlands, England replies: "If you don't live near an Asian grocer and want to buy Shirataki noodles OR konnyaku jelly (that's the startchy form of shirataki, which can be added to soups, stews, and stir fried) online, here are a few resources:
If you're in the US or Canada: http://www.asianfoodgrocer.com/category/shirataki-noodles
If you live in Europe or the UK: http://www.japancentre.com/
Please read the directions on the packet, many shirataki and konnyaku noodles give off a strange odor and need to be boiled before hand.
Please also consider this a yay for shirataki and konnyaku! Both are very high in fibre, contain no gluten, are very low-carbohydrate and either free or extremely low in calories."
