CONJUNCTIVITIS OR ALLERGIES?
12/26/2008: Jessica from Cheshire, England writes: "I have been suffering from conjuntavitus for a while now and i'm only under 13. I get a itchness around both my eyes and have the urge too runs them. I rubb them thoroughly but i dont know that i'm doing it. My eye's begin to get sore and inside my eye to produce and dis-charge or a gunk in my victim'd eye. I dont know wether i'm allergic to anything which causes the itchness around my eye. Also after a couple of minutes my eye start too swell up and itmediatly i tell my parents. As my mother being a nurse she doesnt believe it's conjuntavitus she just says it's a natual effect of my eyes itching, but i think differently. So i did some research and found out that i may be allergic to something. I own 5 horses but whenever i have sore eyes i'm never down there, but i do own 2 dogs and 1 cat. The cat i never usually see but my dogs are usually everywhere. I do see quite alot of dog hairs due to them malting this season.
Any help?"
01/10/2009: Gina from Oslo, Norway replies: "Hi Jessica. I have had the same thing; and yes it might be an allergy. Still it is possible to do something (other than remove you from your animals); First thing; cut out all kind of heated oils in your food; chips, crisps, margarine, etc. Only fry your food in real butter or coconut oil. Olive oil is ok on salads, only cold pressed, never heat oils. I know it is difficult with all the chips in UK, but try for 3-4 weeks and see. Addition; one / half teaspoon with Turmeric a day plus some enzymes (usually 2 capsules a day; read on packet); one multi vitamin / mineral. Last thing is; use real salt; himalaya or celtic salt and as much vitamin C you can stomach. (usually that is 3-6 grams if you are about 9 stone) This work as an anti-histamine. I think you will notice effect within a month. Good Luck!"

VIRAL CONJUNCTIVITIS AFTER USING PUBLIC MASSAGE CHAIR
07/31/2007: A from Calgary, Alberta, Canada writes: "Over 4 weeks ago, I tried one of those "massage chairs" at the "Calgary Stampede & Exhibition" (a local rodeo/fair) for 15 minutes of deep massage, from head to ankle. She casually mentioned it would release toxins 'n I should take a shower and drink lots of water.Got home many hours later, 'n completely forgot about what she'd said until a day later, when my throat was super sore, swollen glands ... and right away appeared more: bad sinus infections, fever, head-aches(never get head-aches normally 'cause I drink nothing but water and plenty of it), severe itching, rashes, and a reappearance of colitis ... and now (over 4 weeks since the massage), I've developed a bad case of conjunctivitis in my right eye. Guess I probably hadn't realized why my eyes were itching - and hadn't looked in a mirror till yesterday. 1/3 of the white is now blood-red. Today (likely have had the conjunctivitis for a few days already)I started with the tea-bag (question: just placed on the lid like a poultice?) also, put several drops of fresh lemon juice in a half-teaspoon measure(great little eye-wash contraption)and washed the eye with that - hurt bad for several seconds, then felt managable. I'm concerned - I'm certain it's worse today than yesterday - now about 1/3 of the white is red. Also, got itching under my arms, my torso, arms and on the skin around my eyes and forehead. I'm on a very tight budget and desire remedies that are effective yet inexpensive. I so appreciate this site and the excellent advice!"
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "The lemon would cause intolerable pain. I prefer the use of just either Green Tea or Black Tea alone, heat, then wait until it is lukewarm and apply to the eyes as a dropper every 15 minutes for a couple of times. Then do that 3 to 4 times a day. The trick to this I think is in a cup of water, I may make a strong tea using 2-4 tea bags, in case it's not working. Quite often the tea is not strong enough, but it works fairly well if the green tea is more stronger.Lemon for me I would like an acid form, but prefer to add a 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda to the tea solution in a cup is better. I prefer an alkaline mix in killing the conjuctivitis than the lemon solution. If it is not working, then probably a simple eye wash medication with boric acid and add tea to it. Colloidal silver works quite well for conjunctivitis, but i prefer a weak solution of 5% magnesium chloride myself.
Mite infestations are a good possibilities considering the place you have been, such as a rodeo for example. Mites and eggs can exist in the cloth sofa where when shaken, the mites can come on the body. Therefore it is best to avoid massage chairs in public access areas. Massage chairs should be used privately so infestation and communicable disease won't occur. While massage chairs utilizes electromagnetic frequencies needed to cause vibration this can also mess up the body's normal electrical systems by creating artificial blockages of normal flows. Conjunctivitis is one form of communicable diseases on public access chairs and luckily this is the only minor form of diseases, but what happens if it was a chlamydia, tuberculosis, and other more serious communicable disease?
Therefore I would never use such services of a public accessed electrical massage chairs for these reasons.

CANNOT SEE PROPERLY FROM VIRAL CONJUNCTIVITIS
08/30/2006: Taimi from Auckland, New Zealand writes: "Does anyone know of a cure or treatment for viral conjunctivitis in Humans??? Or whether these animal cures are safe to use? I take ACV daily and am currently applying hot compresses to my eyes, but have had this painful condition for a week or more now and cannot see properly. Nothing seems to be helping. Any help would be appreciated."
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Taimi: Last couple of months (around February 2006) I nearly went blind (literally) after using several medicines the hospitals gave me to treat a very virulent form of conjunctivitis. Mine was not a mild pink eye, but it was a virulent form of conjunctivitis, totally red eyes with no whites at all! After treatment with hospital and loosing my entire month's salary it simply got so much worse, that I could not see and the eyes were bulging out of the sockets where the white eyes were 100% red. It was so red, it started to bleed out with a bloody sac.
I went to several drugs stores, bought many medicines in an attempt to cure this. As usual, I haven't been lucky with any antibiotics or OTC medicine as the viral/bacteria is completely resistant to them all.
With this string of bad luck I had no choice as usual, but to painfully seek my own cures. After lots of trial and error, I found magnesium chloride, at about 5%-10% solution to be most helpful.
The water I used was ordinary tap water at the time. I varied the percentage between 5% to 10% depending on my conditions at the time. When it was very serious, as my eyeballs were already peeling away, I used a solution closer to 10% to bring relief. Within seconds, I felt instantly better (along with less red color) which is a miracle since, none of the other OTC medicines offer any kind of relief. Then later on I reduced down to 5% as conditions improved. Most people I would probably recommend only 5%, mine was rather serious since I treated myself very late in the game.
I calculated the concentration by mixing and adding the magnesium chloride to a point where the level of pain was tolerable enough or that the pain from the viral conjunctivitis was reduced.
Most borax, boric acid eye wash were for some reason not helpful for my condition, but they were supportive only after conjunctivitis was gone of course. So I guess the name eye wash was exactly what it was - just for cleaning only.
As to whether ACV will kill the virus, you need to dilute enough to a point where it doesn't hurt the eye. The concentration that is least painful appears to be 1 tablespoon of ACV to 5 tablespoon of plain water. At the time of my problems, ACV weren't that helpful. It was too weak and if I increased the concentration it hurts, but the conjunctivitis pain stayed. Mine was a rather a very virulent form of conjunctivitis. Therefore, it might work for you assuming it is mild of course.
To prevent reinfection, once you mix it, you will use it only for one day and discard it.
As a postcript, it took only about 2 days to completely cure it. Normally most mild conditions takes 7 days, but mine was unique, it refused to go away. I later did some more experiments and found later on that if I would have added the zinc chloride and magnesium chloride the efficacy in stopping the conjunctivitis would reduced to only one day or less.
However, the zinc chloride concentration for eye drops should be surprisingly low, at only about 0.1% concentration, while magnesium chloride should ideally be close to about 5%. To be sure how well the newer formula works for sure, I guess I have to wait until I get another conjunctivitis!
As a reminder, conjunctivitis or red eye condition are very infectious. YOu need to prepare a magnesium chloride 10% solution as a hand antiseptic to protect against your hands touching the eyes by killing them first. So if you happen to visit someone with this condition apply a 10% magnesium chloride solution to your hand first as a way to protect yourself from communicable disease. Add just 1% zinc chloride to improve its antiseptic ability. U.S. hospitals use only alcohol handwash, but they don't provide the staying power or protection once the alcohol has evaporated. Therefore my recommended solution should at least protect you from your friends against it. Ted"
06/10/2009: brendon from Singapore, Singapore replies: "I'd like to know Ted, what gave you the idea of trying magnesium chloride for the pink eye?"
06/11/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "How I came up with magnesium chloride for viral conjunctivitis is easy. Magnesium chloride is known to kill many viruses, including the polio viruses. Magnesium is also cheap. The concentration that is in used as an eyedrop I have to prepare is roughly10%,concentration. Interestingly magnesium chloride also kills certain bacteria and this can shown by applying them on the hands and then use that to grow onto petri dishes to see how much bacteria will be grown after treated with the solution too. I have also managed to test other eye drops and magnesium chloride was by far the best against conjunctivitis of the eye, including the colloidal silver. In fact the major remedy after alkalization I have used most frequently is the magnesium. It seems as if we can't get enough of that, but we have way too much of the calcium.
Ted"
07/25/2010: Ted from Matthews, Nc replies: "Ted,I have conjunctivitis and was wondering what is the exact mixture of magnesium chloride to water? Should I take 4 flakes of magnesium chloride to say 5 teaspoons of water and mix it up? Should I take a cotton ball and dip it in the solution and have that drip in my eye? Or should I just take this solution and dump it in my eye?
Thank You"
