MAGNESIUM FOR VARICOSE VEINS?
12/19/2011: Anonymous from Anonymous: "Hi Ted, I became aware that I have Varicose Veins a month back. This is more appearing on the right leg and with a little bit on the left leg. I have started on Inclined Bed immediately. I did not find much improvement with the use of IBT on the aspect of varicose Vein, however, I do not know if this is benefiting otherwise.
You indicated use of Magnesium Supplement in Varicose Vein Remedies. It was mentioned that use of Magnesium supplement 500 mg helps relax heart muscles and enables normal circulation. I wish to know whether this will also help to restore Varicose vein to normal state.
I am regularly using ACV 1tsp + 1/4 tsp Baking Soda + 1/2 tsp honey in 8 Oz warm water two times a day and I plan to use Magnesium Supplement recommended by you. Now this is to request you to advise me on any other remedies to restore my veins to normalcy.
Looking forward to your valuable response."
01/17/2012: Bokka from Austin, Texas, Usa replies: "This has reference to Ted's note on 23 Dec. 2011.Is it advisable to use Bromelain 500mg 2400 GDU/mg ( in capsule form) alone?
Is combination of Bromelain with Glycine essential for the supplement to be effective?
Is ETDA recommended to use simultaneously with Bromelain or Bromelain Glycine combination?
Is Baking Soda 1/4 tsp mixed in a cup of water effective for blood circulation and anti-clot
I request Ted's advise in order to commence treatment for Varicose Veins?"
12/22/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "This is a common occurrence in my clients and the remedy I use is my own, it is bromelain 10% in glycine 90%, I am doubtful they have that commercially. However there are ways around it in finding the appropriate supplements. But you have to understand why they happen. It is caused by inability for the body's enzymes to break down the fibrin. So you can use a powerful enzyme such as bromelain or other digestive enzymes, taken on an empty stomach, several times a day. It will take time, about 2-6 months depending on the strength of the dose. Mine takes around 3 months taken at 1/3 teaspoon 3 times a day. The other that was popular in the 60s was the use of vitamin E around 200 iu should be safe. The vitamin K is somehow involved in this process and is taken at 1 a day, on a 100 mcg dose. The cause of inability of enzymes to break down comes from several things, overeating, insufficient enzymes, and deficiencies (vitamin K, lysine, vitamin C) and some changes such as menopause, obesity, phlebitis, dermatitis, and others. If for example you are smoking that increases the varicose veins as the vitamin C is insufficient. In Thailand we used centella asiatica as the common remedy against varicose veins and bruises too. I have found EDTA taken everyday helps, as it is anti clot, but also a simple baking soda 1/4 tsp after meals at least 2 times a day mixed in a cup of water. The remedy is slightly weak as I purposefully make it weak so you can adjust up the dose if need to, as it will help the circulation, and hence less fibrin.

ADVICE ON POSSIBLE DEFICIENCIES CAUSING VARICOSE VEINS
11/11/2010: Stella from Dubbo, Nsw, Australia: "I have a question for Ted. I have a problem with varicose veins. I am vegetarian (mostly), try to eat well (fruit, salad, vegetables, make my own bread from freshly milled flour etc, eat some fish, our own eggs, filtered water, no smoking, no alcohol, live on an organic farm, am slim, 37 years. I've had 4 children and the spider and varicose veins in my legs got worse each time. It has been 5 years since my last pregnancy but over the last 18 months, the varicose veins have gotten worse - usually with every menstruation they ache and are left just that little bit worse than the month before. I've been taking procaine (found on the Net in a desperate googling of information on curing veins) for almost a year and it has helped the spider veins slightly. I've tried taking 500-1000 units of vitamin E daily but with no results. Ditto for horse chestnut and tissue salts.
Have a family history of diabetes and varicose veins/poor circulation. I don't have diabetes though and last time I went to the doctor's, months ago, my liver and thyroid function were, supposedly, normal. I had anemia symptoms last year but some herbal drops and the procaine seem to have helped. Have also had less sties in my eyes and hardly any cold sores than I used to. But the veins are not only ugly and at times, painful, and I am worried about what they indicate is happening in the rest of my body. Am I estrogen dominant? Deficient in selenium and chromium? Can varicose veins be healed?
I've read on a website by Ray Peat that veins are made worse by lack of protein affecting liver function and its ability to regulate progesterone/estrogen balance. He also mentioned magnesium and Vitamin A being needed. Did I cause this by being vegetarian? I had beginning of the vein problems when I was 20, before having children and 5 years before becoming vegetarian. Actually, it was only 2 months after starting the birth control pill - which I was then on for 5 years before my first child. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Stella"
