REMEDIES NEEDED

QUESTION

05/02/2012: Bkk from Bangkok: "Hi I'm an Indian living in Bangkok suffering from Ulcerative Colitis, which was diagnosed in Jan 2010, in Bangkok.

It has started with bleeding diarrhea and no other symptoms as such. Got colonscopy done and confirmed as UC. I was on mesalamine/anti-diarrheal/antibiotics for long. There was remission. Later, however, there were on and off flare ups but usually got controlled within a months time (I was asked to use hydrocortisone ano-rectal aerosol and mesalamine suppositories in between).

I kept reading about UC and told myself, I gotta live with it. However, I was always scared of the part where the flare up has to be treated with steroids, esp because of the possible side-effects. And recently (rather currently), I got a flare up after good 3 months remission, and gone haywire. I was admitted in hospital (fatigue/anemic). I was given drips/antibitocs/IV steroids for two days. Now I'm on tapered steroid (methylprednisolone) dose. As of now, I feel ok. Frequency of stools have gone down to a maximum of twice a day and bleeding has reduced to a certain level. However, the formation of the stool isn't normal, as in, not solid yet. The tapered dose ends in next 3 weeks. So in total, a months usuage of steroids.

1) I want to know if I need to be worried about any side effects? For which, the answer might be yes. So, I would like to know if there is any chance I can minimize those.

2) Any tips on having a longer remission (in my case) will be really helpful too.

3) If there are any UC groups/meet ups/community in Bangkok to NOT feel alone. Please advice.

4) Also, living in Thailand, with spicy food around, is not easy either. Food suggestions would be great too.

This forum sounds very helpful, so I thought this would be the right place for my first post ever on UC. Hoping for any feedback. Thank you. Bkk"

It has been proven in clinical studies to help Crohn's disease and many other autoimmune diseases, without side effects and is non-toxic. The LDN site will tell you how to join the Yahoo LDN Group where you can read about the experiences of over 11,000 members and ask any questions you may have. Many with intestional problems say it changed their lives. It modulates the immune system. Best wishes!"

05/04/2012: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Bkk... I would go with Ted from Bangkok's remedies which are given in this link here. Ted has said that mycobacterium are always involved with UC.

Other additions which will help your condition will be the following;

* Tumeric herb(Haldi) -- See this link. Tumeric will both help to heal the UC and it apparently stops flare ups, reduces pain and reduces blood discharges. You can just add a level teaspoon of tumeric to Green Tea and drink this three times a day. Green Tea also helps stop diarrhea.

* Bentonite clay -- A tablespoon with a glass of water outside mealtimes. This clay works because each particle has a negative charge and attracts all poisons, bacteria, viruses etc in the intestines that have a positive charge and makes them safe for you to excrete. Bentonite also tends to constipate and harden up stools which would also help you. Bentonite(food grade) should be taken outside mealtimes and is usually enhanced by taken it together with psyllium husks s well.

* Alkalize your intestines using Ted from Bangkok's Alkalizing Remedies will also help you here.

If you prefer, since you also live in Bangkok, you could also arrange for advice or a consultation with Ted from Bangkok himself -- here is his email -- parhatsathid@gmail.com"

05/06/2012: Gordon from Sunderland, Tyne replies: "sodium bicarbonate has a plethora of uses, it can alkalise the body which will assist in healing inside and out, fight infections inside and out, combat fungus overgrowth which all occur when you are run down and ill.

I have heard 1/2 a teaspoon full in a glass of water (or more if required) on an empty stomach is all that is needed to see some results as long as you have no sodium restrictions.

hope that is a help?"

01/13/2012: Iwillgetbetter from Detroit, Mi, Usa: "I have a tough case, can you help me please?

I've had UC for 7 years now and only once, for one day, did I achieve remission. I actually had a shot of antibiotic rocephin and took liquid nystantin and and my remission occured two days after having this. But it didn't stay. I've been on a ton of antibiotics, of course at the same time probiotics. I tested positive for Lyme's too. But no doctor can tell me if my UC is from Lyme's or it's just UC. I know it all started over eating alfalfa sprouts I didn't wash from the grocery store. I got deathly ill and I never went to the doctor. I was better in three days after diarrhea and throwing up, but then a few months later I started bleeding from my rectum when I would have a bowel movement. I was having accidents, I could hold back my poop, it would come out uncontrollably.

I recently bought marshmellow root to make tea for ulcers, l-glutamin for healing the cut, blackstrap molasses (all this per your site) and fish oil, vit D, DHEA a liquid multi vitamin. I've been on the l-glutimin the longest. I'm starting back up my probiotics, since I thought I was bleeding from them I stopped. I bought a far-infer red sauna for detoxing. I've had my filings changed in my mouth, I've taken anti parasite medication and I've done series of colonics and admistered my own enemas with nystantin and probiotics. I've tried gluten free about two weeks, no improvement. Raw veggies give me terrible gas. I've tried living on just chicken and veggies and that's hard! I had a 12 week infusion of vitamins/minerals and I think I've done everything possible to heal myself. I pray, my mood is positive. I'm active. But the urgency, blood, pencin thin poop is still there. It's a miserable way to live. I have spent over $50,000 in doctors, supplements, travel, medications, proceedures etc...

I always wondered if it was just yeast overgrowth and leaky gut problems but I have ulcers.

Any other suggestion you can throw at me? I greatly appreciate all your help. I would LOVE to be in remission."

01/13/2012: Nicole from Rimrock, Az replies: "If you do have yeast overgrowth, a bacteria, viral, fungus or parasite problem, I cannot recommend anything more than the silver pulser used in the Bob Beck protocol and I would also recommend the two other devices he talks about. The magnetic pulser and the ozonator machine. Basically the silver pulser gets rid of all parasite, bacteria, virus' and fungi and it purifies your blood. Many people have cured themselves of HIV, cancer and a host of other problems using this device. Just started using it a week ago and it's a Godsend. I have much better mental clarity, I sleep better and I have a lot more energy. I believe I have candida and am detoxing from it using the silver pulser. It is an investment you can't afford not to do. You can check out his lectures on the devices at youtube. Good luck and happy healing."
01/13/2012: Rsw from Uniontown, Oh replies: "Why don't you look into low dose naltrexone? You can find information at www.ldninfo.org. It has helped many others with UC and Crohns disease to live normal lives. Also join the Yahoo LDN group and others will help you with your questions. LDN helps in many, many autoimmune diseases, as well as cancer treatment, Parkinson's, and many other ailments by modulating the immune system, allowing your own body to heal itself. Good luck."

01/15/2012: Timh from Louisville, Usa replies: "Iwillgetbetter, if you've never incorporated Zinc/Vit-A into your protocol, you missed critical ingredients as Zinc/Vit-A is critical for the healing of many cells/tissues particularly epithelial. Comfrey leaf is a good healer as well as DGL & Allantoin. Anytime I get a colon flare-up I wear a magnetic belt over the colon area all day w/ very good results. The first big help I got from U.C. 2 yrs ago took 3 days Magnetic belt and was then much better.

Hope this helps and report your progress."

01/06/2012: Betsy from Deer River, Minnesota replies: "Christian,

I had severe ulcerative colitis from 2007-2009. The last time I was in the hospital was in 2009, and the last time I had a flare-up was in 2010. I have some symptoms of IBS still, but they are going away. I believe I am completely healed of ulcerative colitis. I am not on any medications, although I was told I would have to be on meds for the rest my life. I've been taking an entirely natural approach. If you like, I can share what I have done to heal my colon."
01/06/2012: Kashil from Tulun, Mexico replies: "In my experience I have found that parasites are the cause of... I think almost anything. I am 57 and it has took me about 3 years of cleansing. I have done almost everything naturally, meaning no supplements or things like that - this mostly because I don't have (don't want) a credit card I cannot buy things through internet, so it has been a bit longer and more difficult, more work but it has been worth it, believe me.

I have used mainly: hot red pepper, wormwood, black clover, something called in spanish CHAPARRO AMARGO, another one is EPAZOTE. Also lots of garlic, the Tibetan garlic cure, garlic oil, coconut oil, vegetable carbon... I think if you try something for parasites you will see that you feel better and then you know where the problem is. It takes time, but it's worth it. I wish you feel better. :-)"

11/28/2011: Heather from Cynthiana, Kentucky: "I have almost bled to death twice with bloody stools. I am now on Remicade every 8 weeks. Now, I am worried about its side effects even though it put me into remission, and eliminated steroids. I am going to ask my GI doctor about maybe getting Remicade intermittently only when I have a serious flare. What can you prescribe for me that I can share with my doctor as an option to relying only on Remicade?"

It has been shown to be effective in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as many other autoimmune diseases. please see the website at www.ldninfo.org. It explains the way it works and gives studies that support these statements. Yahoo also has a LDN group that you can join with over 10,000 members who are very willing to answer your questions and give you their personal experience with LDN. I will say that Remicade seems to be a drug that is generally not recommeded by the group from what I have read. Good luck!"

11/06/2011: Rick from San Diego, Ca: "Hi Ted, I've been doing a lot of reading on your posts of treating UC and I am currently in a flare, as in bleeding usually in the morning once a day with a bowel movement but it is not diarrhea it is fairly firm stools. I am on 30 mg of Prednisone a day right now which is why I am probably not experiencing diarrhea. But I am also taking humic acid 3 times a day along with aloe vera oil and an aloe vera supplement. I am also taking 1 teaspoon of Psyillum husk once a day usually with dinner. And the other supplements I am taking are Ginger (6 capsules a day) as I hear this helps with inflammation, L-lysine(3 a day with every meal), and L-glutamine(3 a day before every meal). All the water I drink I have been putting in some baking soda to alkalize it as well except in the morning before breakfast.

So my main question is, what is a way I can stop the bleeding? And also I had read your latest post and you had mentioned using Artemisinin(isn't this used to treat malaria?) and Gallium Nitrate as some other supplements to add to the healing process? You just mentioned them so I was wondering if you could elaborate on how much to take and how it benefits and what not.

I have moderate to severe UC and during this last flare that I am slowing recovering from (all I need is the bleeding to stop) I lost a lot of weight and I am trying to get back to my normal weight while I am on Prednisone. Things I am eating would be like eggs almost every morning, turkey or tuna sandwhiches with whole wheat bread, salads, chicken, stuff like that. I am staying away from fruits which is really hard because I love my fruit, and also other sugar like cookies or food that has lots of sugar.

So please help Ted!! As I am trying to kick this UC once and for all!! Any suggestions you have I would greatly appreciate."

11/07/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "I am reading a book at the moment on Magnesium ("Magnesium Miracle") which says that Prednisone drastically depletes the body of magnesium, vitamin c and vitamin K. Ulcerative colitis has been linked to a magensium deficiency.... Prednisone also lowers your immune system. Magnesium deficiency leads to all sorts of problems...

I would stop taking the Prednisone ... You are better off taking magnesium, probiotics, digestive enzymes, wheatgrass juice, spirulina and chorella and coconut oil (unrefined). Drinking a teaspoon of epson salts in water will also help (magnesium sulphate).

10/31/2011: Sonia from Delhi, India: "Please let me know home remedy for weak digestive system...... I am not able to digest wheat/cereals...reducing weight... Hair getting thinner day by day... Heavy bleeding with cramps.. Low blood pressure.... Teeth decaying... V low hb... No medicines works... Gone for full chekups... Nothing specific except thyroid & fibroid in uterus but can't take pills.... Every pill makes motion loose.... Tired all the time."

10/31/2011: Bess from Calgary, Alberta, Canada replies: "Hi Sonia - It sounds like you may be gluten intolerant (or have celiac disease) if you are having digestive problems with wheat and cereals. Eliminate them from your diet completely and stick to more natural foods - organic fruits and vegetables (good for fiber too), organic meats (small amount if your diet is already too acidifying), etc. Start slowly - see how you feel when adding or subtracting foods from your diet. Try to be more pH balanced (more alkaline foods in your diet). Make sure you are properly hydrated.

Also, you mentioned that you can't take the thyroid pills the doctor prescribed (that may be why you are so tired), so try taking 3 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil per day - but start slowly to avoid stomach distress. For instance, start with 3 teaspoons throughout the day and work your way up to 3 tablespoons. Yoga is good exercise and may help you with fatigue and, from what I understand, some of the poses help stimulate the thyroid.

One reason why your hair may be thinning is that you aren't able to absorb the nutrients in your food due to your digestive problems. Is there a naturopath or holistic doctor you could see? Perhaps they could check you for increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut syndrome). Once you get your stomach under control, maybe the other problems will lessen or disappear because you will be able to absorb your vitamins and minerals.

Here are a few Earth Clinic pages for leaky gut syndrome, digestion and thyroid. Perhaps some of the remedies may help you.

Good luck Sonia - good digestion leads to good health. Take care, Bess"

10/31/2011: Cat from Edmond, Ok, Usa replies: "Hi Sonia,
Have you tried digestive enzymes taken with food? I was having similar problems and Medical Doc assumed I had acid reflux. Put me on terrible meds. After having horrible side effects I went to health food store and they recommended digestive enzymes. I started taking them and wow they really helped! I started researching enzymes. I found out that you can supplement with 2 types one is taken with food to help with food allergies and digestion. The other is called Systemic enzymes or pancreatic enzymes. They are enterically coated and taken on an empty stomach, they help with a ton of other things like uterine fibroids, fibrosis of any kind and inflamation of any kind! In my case arthritis in my feet and Jaw! A guy named Dr. William Wong is an expert on enzymes and explains it best on his site www.totalityofbeing.com. He has formulated his own that I have been taking for the past 7 months! He is my personal hero! I had crippling foot arthritis and serious stomach issues along with headaches, vertigo, and lack of energy. Within 4 days of taking his zymessence (systemic enzyme taken on empty stomach) And almost immediate results from taking digestive enzymes along with drinking aloe juice 3x per day before meals! I have more energy, no stomach pain/ constipation, no headaches, no arthritis pain, my cystic acne has cleared! I'm a 43 yr old Mom that can play tennis daily without pain or the need for afternoon nap! Good Luck to you! Best,
Cat"
10/31/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Sonia, I think you have both a magnesium and an iodine deficiency. As far as loose stools, many people have been able to stop that with Apple cider vinegar (1-2 tablespoons in water).

Cramps with bleeding is an indication of a magnesium deficiency as is low blood pressure.

Thyroid problems, fibroids and hair loss are related to iodine deficiency, even the tiredness.

For iodine you need to take Lugol's iodine (iodine and Iodide). Refer to iodine section on Earthclinic

For Magnesium it is better to use Magnesium chloride in bath water (a better way to get it absorbed in your body). You tube is also excellent for info."

06/21/2011: Stacey from Sanford, Florida, Usa: "I need some ideas to help my daughter coming off a colitis flare up to gain weight. She has dropped a third of her body weight, has gained a few pounds, but continues losing. She cannot tolerate milk or any milk based products. Her appetite is not very good, has a lot of gagging going on throughout the meals. She eats 3 protein bars a day, but its all obviously not enough calories to encourage gain.

She is very discouraged to say the least, the pain and trips to the bathroom have improved, she is on l-glutamine 3-4 times per day which seems to be helping plus a probiotic... that is all. Please can someone give me some suggestions???

thank you"

Replies
06/21/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Stacey I wrote recently that homemade chicken broth would be good for her. It is full of vitamins and minerals and should not upset her stomach. You cook it in a slow cooker. Keep some natural chicken fat in the broth.

Rather than protein bars which probably contain preservatives, she needs "real" food not processed. Green smoothies (including wheatgrass juice) are excellent because they contain many many vitamins and minerals and protein. You need to heal her gut so she can assimilate the nutrients her body needs. Even raw honey and organic blackstrap molassess would give her some vitamins and minerals. Cod liver oil is an essential fatty acid and is also very good as well."

06/18/2011: Stacey from Sanford, Florida: "I need some insight as to how to go about getting some weight on my daughter. She is taking 20-25 grams of l-glutamine a day, her appetite is poor, nausea, and frequent trips to the bathroom, seem to be keeping her from putting on weight. She dropped about 30 lbs. During her last flare-up and has put on 10 lbs. But is beginning to lose them because the ensure shakes she was taking seemed to be an added problem. She cannot tolerate dairy and they have dairy in them. Low energy and feeling defeated are really taking its toll on her. She is 19 years old, spent 9 days in the hospital hooked up to everything under the sun. We are not very Dr.Friendly so this was very difficult on everyone. Now we are just striving to get her back on her feet, literally! She is also, on a probiotic, a liquid iron, chlorophyl and colloidal silver. Any suggestions???"

Replies
06/18/2011: Carly from Seattle , Wa - Usa replies: "Hi Stacey -

Isn't Ensure a dairy based drink? I have never looked at it closely, but maybe your daughter is allergic to something in it.

For high calories that are easily assimilated I would look at giving her virgin organic coconut oil melted into something hot that she can eat (broth, tea, really just anything warm to melt it, it could even just be some water)... and I would also be giving her a small amount of unsulphered blackstrap molassas as well.

Be sure to start off very slowly with both, as too much in the beginning of either can actually CAUSE diaharea - and that is the last thing you want. I would start with 1/4 teaspoon of each (yes, they can be used together in tea or broth) and see how she does, and then gradually add a bit more each day until up to 3 tablespoons of the organic virgin coconut oil, and 1 tablespoon of the unsulphered blackstrap molassas per day.

Also - it is important that the coconut oil be virgin and organic... And that the molassas be unsulphered. You can read more about them here on Earth Clinic and on the web. Very healing.

Also - perhaps there is some supplemental protein type drink out there that your daughter could tolerate beter. Perhaps go in to a health food store locally and ask the person there for advice on some types that are completely different than Ensure. My general opinion is that anything like that (Ensure) that is sold in the grocery store is probably full of preservatives, dyes, artificial flavors and such. Just my opinion.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, and have never claimed to be one... Just giving some ideas you may want to look at. ;-)

God bless you and your daughter, and I hope you find your answers. Peace. Carly"

06/19/2011: Maria from Toronto, Canada replies: "I'm not a doctor, but I wouldn't give Ensure to my enemy. It isn't a dairy based drink. It is full of corn products, which are very likely genetically modified. The third ingredient is white sugar. Sure, it'll help you gain weight, but with zero nutrition. But it is full of unhealthy, high omerga 6 oils: corn and canola. (Check on the Weston Price website for explanations on why these are unhealthy). Here is the ingredient list:

WATER, CORN MALTODEXTRIN, SUGAR (SUCROSE), CANOLA OIL, SODIUM CASEINATE, MILK PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, CORN OIL, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, COCOA POWDER (PROCESSED WITH ALKALI), SHORT-CHAIN FRUCTOOLIGOSACCHARIDES, POTASSIUM CITRATE, CALCIUM BETA-HYDROXY-BETA-METHYLBUTYRATE; LESS THAN 0. 5% OF: WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, MAGNESIUM PHOSPHATE, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, SOY LECITHIN, SODIUM PHOSPHATE, POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, CHOLINE CHLORIDE, CALCIUM CARBONATE, ASCORBIC ACID, POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, L-CARNITINE, CARRAGEENAN, FERRIC PHOSPHATE, dl-ALPHA-TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, GELLAN GUM, ZINC SULFATE, NIACINAMIDE, MANGANESE SULFATE, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, CUPRIC SULFATE, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, THIAMINE CHLORIDE HYDROCHLORIDE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, RIBOFLAVIN, FOLIC ACID, CHROMIUM CHLORIDE, BIOTIN, SODIUM MOLYBDATE, SODIUM SELENATE, POTASSIUM IODIDE, PHYLLOQUINONE, CYANOCOBALAMIN, AND VITAMIN D3.
Hope your daughter feels better soon."
06/19/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Stacey, Ensure contains a lot of sugar and corn syrup and canola and soy oil. I would not want to put that in my diet.

Green shakes (homemade) would be a better way for her to get some nutrition into her and as someone suggested coconut oil.

You should Also look at the book Gut & Psychology Syndrome. It is a special diet (way of eating that heals the gut primarily). The woman who wrote it is a Neurosurgeon who cured her son of Autism. It also helps people with digestive issues heal. It starts off slowly with things like a homemade chicken broth, and slowly adds in other foods. The chicken broth is highly nutritious and has many vitamins and minerals including calcium. As she tolerates the foods you can add more in. She could even come off the diet once she has gained back her weight. There are some great youtube videos on the GAPS diet online you could look at. It also talks about probiotics and digestive enzymes and eating fermented foods.

Your daughter may have recovered from colitis but her gut may still need to recover with more beneficial bacteria to be added. Adding in things like the probiotics and digestive enzymes would help her heal.

I am not affiliated with the book, just that my son and I are on the diet to heal him."

06/19/2011: Carly from Seattle, Wa - Usa replies: "Thanks for the Ensure ingrediants list, Maria! WOW! That stuff is total CRAP! It does have dair in it as well - (Caseinate and Milk Protein Concentrate) so if anyone did have a dairy issue, this would surely bother them as well.

With the corn, canola and soy oils, along with the sugars.... Wow. I wouldn't feed this to my worst enemy either. There is so much wrong with this drink. The only thing it would "Ensure" me of is a quick trip to the bathroom. This would literally upset my digestive system in very short order."

06/19/2011: Carly from Seattle, Wa - Usa replies: "I agree with everything Debbie has said. Probiotics, green drinks with some organic virgin coconut oil, and home made broth should go a long way towards helping your daughter.

The gut is call the second brain for a reason. If your gut isn't right, nothing else can be.

Dump the Ensure down the drain - or better yet, take it back to the store and tell them you didn't realize you were buying absolute garbage.

Did a doctor recommend it? Hmmmm."

Is there a protocol for Candida keeping in mind I have UC? I don't eat very many items, have lost 4 sizes, trying hard to keep weight on as I am tall. I am talking 2 heart meds for high rate and rythem issues, had to Ablations 5 yrs ago. Not sure which way to jump. Food and supplements?

Please help any info would be much appreciated!

Thank you Selahinmtns"

I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering from this nasty yeast. If your doctor can help you, ask him to prescribe for you Nystatin tablets for 6 months. It's safe and doesn't bypass the gut. He can also give you Amphotericin B tablets( NEVER TAKE INJECTION OR WE WILL END UP WITH KIDNEY FAILURE). Avoid starch and sugar. Take Biotin to make candida yeast and not fungus. Avoid probiotic yogurt. Take the capsule probiotics instead. Aspirin at low dose has shown to diatribe the biofilms of candida. Take S. Boulardii. This yeast controls candida and produces caprylic acid to kill candida. Good luck."

07/21/2010: Freakzilla154l from Philadelphia, Pa, Usa: "Hey all, I posted a few days ago about having Ulcerative colitis and other issues b/c of the UC. About a year and a half ago I had a urine test done (very reliable, just can't think of company) that tested positive for c. Diff toxin. I've only tried Flagly at the time. So I'm thinking this really could be the root of all my problems. One other came back high. My mercury levels were a little high too, but considering how I feel, thought it would be worse! So, any natural treatments for this c. Diff or something that has helped someone else? I crave sweets all the time, it's so strange! I gotta get this bugger. The test has to be right so, why not go this route! I showed my GI doc at that time and he laughed and said it wasn't reliable, only through stool, but that has false negatives all the time! Anyway, will borax help anything else? I started taking high doses of saccromyces boulardii and in 2 days my symptoms have been drastically better! Any ideas TED?! Thanks all!"

09/13/2009: Reeba from Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Hong Kong: "Hi,

My husband has been suffering from Ulcerative Colitis for the past 4 years. His disease got into remission for few months after taking ASACOL. But now it has returned and the medications arent doing him any good. He is having bloody stools and very painful abdominal cramps. His large intestine seems as if someone is rubbing salt on it. He has stopped going to his job as well and is very despressed. I was just searching on net about this job and came across this website. Could you please tell me more about the cure for this disease? My husband seems so fed up with it and i'm very worried about his health. He has lost 7 pounds. Does baking soda really help in this matter? Is baking soda and baking powder the same? Do you think he should start drinking it? Please reply asap as we both are really very worried.his health seems to be getting worse. Your kind, quick reply would be highly appreciated. Thanks"

09/14/2009: Mazen from Amman, Jordan replies: "Dear Reeba,

The inflammatory process of the intestines should be helped with half teaspoonful of Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) and half teaspoonful of citric acid powder(crystals) mixed in half glass of water and stir until the reaction stops then drink it on an empty stomach early thing in the mornig and before going to bed (you can add a third dose in the middle of the day on an empty stomach also), remember not to eat anything after it for at least 45 minutes. This should go on for 5 days and stoped for two days and so on. This is Ted's remedy and it really helped greatly with ulcerative colitis patients.

Hope yur husband gets better.

09/15/2009: Reeba from Hong Kong replies: "hi Mazen,

Thanks for your feedback. Last night my husband had a very severe pain in his intestine due to that ulcerative colitis...I didnt have any Baking Soda at home so I gave him half teaspoonful of baking powder instead. Are there any differences between the baking powder and baking soda? I'd like to know where I can find the citric acid powder (crystals)??? The Baking Powder that I gave my husband contains Corn starch, raising agent, sodium hydrogen carbonate, monocalcium phosphate. Is that ok? I'm nervous about him getting some other side effects.....did i do the right thing??? please reply asap.

Thanks alot
Reeba"
10/17/2009: Donna from Taunton, Ma replies: "Hi Reeba,
I'm sure you've had a chance to get baking soda by now, but to answer your question - no. Baking powder is not a substitute. I'm on this site looking for info too, as I suffer from chronic UC. I'd suggest reading through all the info. Problem is there doesn't seem to be any one cure (or remedy) that works for everyone, at least that's what I've found from my extensive research. The only way to go is to try things that multiple people swear by, and give them enough time to work. That could be up to six weeks . . . unless they are making things worse, in which case ditch that and go on to the next. I'm going to be trying the raw foods diet next, even though it goes against conventional wisdom and my own experience. I've heard enough good reports about it to make it seem worth a more organized attempt. Juicing definitely seems helpful to me . .. carrot, celery, beet . . . cabbage and spinach are supposed to be very good too, for these problems. Coconut water (not milk, as yes, it's in the health food section) calms me in the morning. Also, a Tbl. kuzu powder dissovled and heated until translucent, with (or without) a little umeboshi paste creamed in after heating is great. The kuzu (or kudzu) is healing for the intestinal lining, while umeboshi is very alkalizing. It should be taken morning and night, but any amount will help. These are suggestions from my experience, along with noticing if certain foods make it worse, and reading over a site like this one to benefit from others' experience and give you ideas for what to try. Good luck."
10/17/2009: Donna from Taunton, Ma replies: "Oops! I forgot to say that if you're still looking for citric acid (or anything) you can just do an online search and you'll get resources. I'll check back in after trying this diet. I plan to do mostly raw foods, with some fish, not sure about other protein sources yet . . . and lots of mostly vegetable juice, including wheat grass--which I'm going to start growing today."

SLIPPERY ELM

[YEA]  12/05/2008: Carl from Leeds, West York UK: "Colitis: Slippery Elm Powder

Slippery elm kick-started my return to good colonic health. After enduring several years of extreme colitis symptoms I spent a whole week without food except for a teaspoonful of slippery elm powder mashed with banana. It can be mixed with water but it is a bit of an art. I preferred the banana method.

This was taken first thing in the morning and again in the evening before bed. Sipping only water all day, taking hot baths and lots of rest. Going to bed no later than 9 or 10 O'clock ensured that my colon had plenty of opportunity to heal itself.

The first 4 days were spent feeling weak and lethargic but I feel that it was my body busy repairing itself. By day 7 I was symptom free. From then on it was a matter of avoiding harmful food and drinks and generally living a less stressful and abusive lifestyle.

The slippery elm powder I am convinced gave me the encouraging cure start that I needed. Follow my blog at www.colitis-free.blogspot.com

[YEA]  02/06/2007: Diane from Minster nr Ramsgate, UK: "I would like to recommend pure slippery elm powder (not slippery elm food which has flour in it) to help with acid reflux. Slippery elm when made up into a milkshake type drink (see tip at end of this for making it up without lumps!) has soothing properties, lines as it goes down, and is also nutritional. My children used to have slippery elm mixed with fruit such as stewed apple or apricots or banana as a cereal when they were bubbies. They loved it. Anyway, re: acid reflux - it will not instantly make it go away but will help soothe some of the symptoms and calm the volcanic eruptions a bit if drunk fairly frequently, especially when one has the symptoms of heartburn or sore throat etc. I think used in conjunction with yoghurt (or even better pre and pro biotic capsules) and the apple cider remedy, as well as of course changes to ways of living, it would be very good. I cannot say it will be as I have not tried the ACV remedy yet - but I intend to! My husband has ulcerative collitis and drinking slippery elm has really helped him as well as natural anti-inflammatories such as turmeric, taking pre and pro biotics, and taking linseed oil. Has anyone tried ACV for ulcerative collitis btw? Oh before I forget...I said I would give a tip for making up slippery elm without the lumps. This is how my hubby and I do it: Put two heaped teaspoonfuls of slippery elm in a mug. Bring kettle to boil but before pouring into mug, put a covering of cold water over the powder in the mug. DO NOT STIR yet though but stir as you are pouring in the hot water. Leave some room at the top for adding milk (we use soya milk btw as this suits my husband's UC more, but other types of milk are ok if you can drink them)."

SWEET WHEY

[YEA]  10/23/2008: Greg from Media, PA: "After years of suffering on and off with inflamed colon, I have finally found something that works. The colonics people don't like to hear this and I'm starting to believe that they are trying to supress this information. We have been told that we should take pro-biotics to help re-establish our friendly bacteria. I find this to be only partially helpful. It seems that there is a way to reestablish the friendly bacteria in the colon and that's by feeding your bacteria with the ideal food and that's Sweet Whey. I didn't find this on Earth Clinic so I decided to post this. I am hoping to find others that have tried this product to hear what I have experienced confirmed.

I first read this several years ago in Acidophilus and Colon Health by David Webster. Sweet Whey cured my inflamed colon. Other positive side-effects are a floating feces and better smelling too.

I will admit that I was skeptical at first trial. I asked my colonics provider about the use of sweet whey I went so far as to loan my book to her. It took me three years to get my book back. I tried and tried to get it back but to no avail. So I stopped taking the sweet whey and my colon problems came back. Finally when I got my book back I started back on the sweet whey. After reading the book more thourughly I realized why she kept it. If it's this easy to cure some colon problems. Why would you need colonics. I know that this is not entirely true because there are other reasons to have colonics.

The ph balance talked about in regard to ACV prompted me to write this because I feel may be as essential as balancing your ph. Restoring your friendly bacteria. I'll be looking for other feedback."

10/28/2008: Catherine from Wellington, New Zealand replies: "Further to question about sweet whey... Have discovered some info which I am sharing in case others wish to know.

Sweet whey is a product of the cheese making process in which RENNET is used. Junket is made with rennet and after setting, it can be cut with a knife and strained thru muslin, the curds make a simple cottage cheese and the drained liquid is the whey...Now as a child I happily drank the junket whey and it was sweet and refresshing to the taste, so I'll start doing the homemade cottage cheese again and, like Miss Muffet, eat my curds & whey. Thanks to all the wonderful people out there who share their cures for the benefit of all."

I am curious to hear more about sweet whey. How much did you take when you started seeing results? How are you doing now?

TREAT ACCORDING TO YOUR URINARY PH

[YEA]  01/06/2010: Sarahbelle from Bryan, Ohio: "Uti or interstitial cystitis and acid/alkaline

Please read this if you have a UTI or IC!! I have been researching and this is my conclusion: Your urine is either too acid OR too alkaline. It may have caused bacteria to grow, or if cultures couldn't detect bacteria, it could just be irritated as in IC. I always read that my urine was too acidic. When I tried to make it more alkaline I was even more miserable! Once, when I was taking a barley powder product for it's health benefits, my bladder got worse. It was too alkalinizing. I read that DISTILLED WATER was very acidic, so I chugged a gallon that day. What a relief! (One wouldn't want to drink distilled water for more than three days, as prolonged use can be detrimental, but it is easy on the struggling kidney and bladder.) Make sure you know if your urine is too acidic or too alkaline before you treat yourself. You can buy testing strips at a pharmacy. The doctors in our rural area would think I was weird if I started talking about natural cures and acid/alkaline. Be your own doctor if possible. Best wishes."

BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[YEA]  06/03/2010: Marine17 from Nicosia, Cyprus: "I was diagnosed with UC about 8 months ago and was on corticosteroids and salofalk. After coming off of corticosteroids, my symptoms returned though a bit milder(diarrhea and some bleeding). For some time I played with my diet but it did not seem to have a great effect. I would eat only rice and boiled chicken with no fruits or vegetables but it would only work the first day. Then I came across a post regarding Vitamin E enema. It said use 2 capsules and increase to 10. It also advised not to eat white flour, rice, milk, sweets and fruits but it lots of vegetables. So I started the enema and on the third day all my symptoms disappeared. It has been three weeks now and I have almost forgotten I have UC. The enema gives me a bit of gas but that's about it.

I actually have fruits too like banana, avocado and mango. I have stuck to the 10 capsules a day and I also take 1 orally, vitamin D (2 capsules) together with Calcium and magnesium (1 capsule), Selenium and L-glutamin. However I started those extra supplements one week after I started the enema so Vitamin E has done the miracle and the others I'm taking to help make the healing process faster.

The therapy must be for no less than 3 months. I will keep you posted after 3 months when I stop but I would do it my whole life if I had to given that I would be symptom free and enjoy my fruits and vegetables!!"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  01/19/2011: Ahmed Jaafar from Dubai, United Arab Emirates replies: "I suffer from ulcer colitis and this is the cure but you have to use it every now and then, just add anti inflammatory also like fish oil or bee probolis or acai berry etc, glutamine will cause alot of side effects so I advise to avoid it because if you discontinue a flare up will be worse than before. I puncture one vitamin e capsule and use it once or twice a day and take bee probolis, almost feeling normal. Do it guaranteed"
