CLOVES

1 QUESTION

[YEA]  03/26/2007: sue from ottawa, canada writes: "Cloves are nothing short of a miracle. I'd been in severe pain with an abscess and not even the most potent painkillers, antibiotics or extra strength oragel were helping. I read about clove oil on the internet and went to the local health food store to find some. They didn't carry it and neither did the drug store, so I bought powdered cloves and emptied the contents of a teabag and put the clove powder in. Within 5 minutes I was PAIN FREE for hours. I actually got some sleep! This is an unbelievable remedy and I only wish it were taken more seriously. No one with a toothache needs to use anything but cloves!"

[YEA]  11/20/2006: Kathy from Canonsburg, PA writes: "Oil of cloves and peroxide for Abscess tooth cured my abscess overnight. Because I have no dental insurance I decided to look on the internet for natural cures for an abscess. My cheek was so swollen for a couple days I looked like a 'chipmunk". It was swollen inside my mouth to the size of a dime and I got no relief. Yesterday (Sunday) I alternated between the peroxide and oil of cloves and today it is gone. I can't believe it. I could hardly eat or talk yesterday. Thank you thank you for your valuable website."

COCONUT OIL

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/16/2007: Jerry from Hamburg, NY writes: "Coconut oil got rid of tooth infection. I've used coconut oil on a regular basis now for a few months in cooking mainly. Never experienced side effects no matter how much I used. Stopped using for a week or so due to busy work schedule, and got a bad infection in a tooth. My cheek was quite swollen and getting worse by the hour. Instead of going to a dentist for antibiotics, I got back on the coconut oil. Took one teaspoon orally then just used as I normally would in cooking. In less than two days the swelling and infection was gone!"

COLLOIDAL SILVER

2 YEA

[YEA]  03/12/2009: Ron from South St Paul, MN writes: "...I had a filling break while eating some popcorn one night. Within 2 weeks, a cavity formed, which wasn't surprising to me. I've dealt with carries/cavities more than once. For years I've taken plant derived- colloidal minerals (60-80 different minerals). All of my cavities seemed to stop dead in their tracks, but I couldn't pin-point why, or what I was doing. I scheduled a dentist appointment and was expecting to have him do a root canal. I don't have insurance, I pay my bills and wanted to set up some kind of payment plan. The dentist wanted $500 down, and not having that kind of money, I told him "Thank you, but I'll have to figure out something else." Immediately, I went home, cracked open my medical books and started doing a little research. I learned that cavities are caused by a bacteria.I already knew that Silver was an antibiotic, but didn't know how to consume/make it (I also figured out why my cavities, in the past, have stopped while taking the liquid minerals). I did some looking on line, came across directions on how to make colloidal Silver, and for the price of 1 foot .22 gauge Silver wire, a soldering gun and 3 9 volt batteries, I now make my own. Haven't dealt with any mouth problems since!"

[YEA]  12/26/2008: Mary from New York, New York writes: "Four weeks ago, i was eating pop corn and some of the brown stuff that's on it, stuck in my gum. it took a while to pull it out and the gum throbbed alot. the next morning the gum was inflamed and an abscess formed. i tried gargling with salt and water and hydrogen peroxide, gargled with apple cider vinigar, tried putting neem extract on it, ate a bunch of cashews as cashews have a mild poison that works well on gum disease, tried raw garlic with salt and turmuric both eating it and putting it on the wound, which really burned and burned my inner cheek pretty bad. Most of these things just controlled the abscess. it would drain but then it would come back again and the gum was refusing to heal. this went on for about 2 weeks, finally i tried colloidal silver. i drank 4 table spoons per day, and i soaked a cotton ball in colloidal silver and placed it on the wounded gum. within hours not only did the gum drain, it started to heal. after two days of colloidal silver on cotton ball and drinking it, my gum looked clean, pink and as if nothing ever happned. bottom line, colloidal silver for abscess is a very quick remedy. though, make sure to get a good colloidal silver. some companies sell cheap stuff that's immitation, more like ionic silver. i bought a bottle of mesosilver on amazon. expensive but reputable company, which did the trick for me.still beats going to the dentist for him to rip out the tooth or do a root canal, still a lot cheaper. i am as well learning now how to make my own colloidal silver so that i can keep it on hand, should i get sick again.

hope this helps someone."

03/16/2009: Rebecca from Savannah, GA replies: "could someone please help me with how to make my own COLLOIDAL SILVER? have tried garlic directly on abscess tooth/gum? for 2 days now with just a little success. Help! have no health insurance at this time and would also like to NOT have to go to the dentist with teeth problems........too expensive!!!! thanks so much anyone who could help me."

ECHINACEA AND GOLDENSEAL

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/24/2008: Georje writes: "I cured an abscessed tooth by taking a half teaspoon of echinacea/ goldenseal tincture every hour for the first day of a really severe toothache and holding spilanthes tincture in my mouth to dull the pain. I discovered the herb meadow sweet to be the best pain relief for the tooth. Within minutes of drinking a mild decoction of the tea the pain would be gone for hours. It was a long weekend and no hope for going to the dentist. I was suprised the next morning that the swelling was way down so I continued taking the echinacea/ goldenseal tincture. as the abscess subsided i decreased the dose, taking it every three or four hours the second day . I continued for a week taking 3 doses a day. At the end of that time I had no abscess . It was confirmed a few weeks later by xrays at the dentist. I also drank lots of water with a 1/2 fresh lemon or lime sqeezed into to it."

EUCALYPTUS TEA BAGS

1 YEA

[YEA]  09/25/2009: Evangeline from Bowling Green, Ohio writes: "I have had an abcessed tooth off and on for a while. I have tried just about everything on it and found one of the best remedies to be eucalyptus tea bags. Put the tea bag in your mouth around the infected tooth and hold it in there as long as you feel necessary. sometimes I would sleep with one. When you take the bag out you can literaly see some of the infection on the bag that has been drawn out of your tooth."

FENUGREEK

1 YEA

[YEA]  11/01/2006: Jeanne from Rouyn - Noranda, Quebec, CANADA writes: "Fenugreek steeped into a tea / mouthwash cured abscessed teeth. I rinsed my mouth and then soaked a gauze pad and placed in in my mouth for an hour at a time and it drew the infection out of my system. Sometimes I had to open a little hole in my gums so it would drain. I had 10 abscessed teeth at one time and did this for many months. It helped me alot as I didn't have any medical coverage to go to a dentist myself. I still to this day recommend this to anyone with the same problem."

GARLIC

41 YEA
1 BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

[YEA]  11/21/2009: Lashonda from Atlantic City, New Jersey writes: "Ok...When I had my last daughter, I've been suffering for 3 years with dental issues. She took a lot of calcium during my pregnancy. As usual, the dentist couldn't abstract the teeth because I was pregnant. I lost most of my back teeth top and bottom. The crowns are gone and all thats left are the root part of the teeth. I will need extensive surgery to correct the problems.

I have been to the hospital on several occassions for this. Each time, they prescribed me clyndamycin (I pray that is spelled correctly) because I am allergic to pennicilin. Needless to say, I would have to take those for 15 days consecutive until all the antibiotic was gone..The pain killers they gave to me were Percocet, Oxycodone, Tylenol 3, and Vicondon.( not all in one, separate times) All of these made me sick.

What gets me is once I believe that one abscess has gone away, another pops up. This is the reason that I can not get the surgery yet. Not to mention, I am self employed and currently do not possess health and dental insurance. Paying for hospital bills and medication has strained my pocketbook, dress slacks, and bank accounts...

There have been way too many times that I suffered sleepless nights, missed meals, and tears from the excruciating pain. I am telling you, the pain was so bad that I often suffered hearing loss, eye and headaches(on the infected side), chest and arm pain. This pain was so bad that I called my mother in North Carolina a few times. I have never experienced such pain in my life. I'd rather have a million babies than to sufffer tooth pain..

What brought me to this site was after viewing my finances and my medication, I knew I couldn't afford to go to the hospital nor pay for the medicine.I had just taken my last antibiotic and the swelling and pain started all over again. On last night, I googled home made antibiotics for tooth abscess and this site was on the top of the search engine. I heard about clove oil was good, but when I saw garlic here, further reading was needed..

As I begin to read others story, many of them I related to. Thank you everyone for your testimonies. Most people said use fresh garlic. Well I didn't have fresh garlic in my home. I tried the next best thing. GARLIC POWDER. It did burn at first even throbbed a little. But after the burning the pain went away. I went to sleep and woke up with most of the swelling gone. I repeated the process again when I woke up this morning, once this afternoon, and doing it now as I type.

Garlic works in any form I believe. The pain is gone, but the swelling is still there but not as much. Most people say do it for three days. That is advice I will continue to use.

Downside to using garlic is bad breath. But when you are in pain, bad breath is the least of worries. I didn't have to do much speaking or talking so that was a blessing. If any of you know what I can do to get rid of the garlic breath, please inform me. Everything I eat has a garlic backdrop to it...don't like that too much."

[YEA]  11/20/2009: Dalene from Johannesburg, South Africa writes: "I had a tooth abcess and went to the dentist. He gave antibiotics, which didn't work, helped nothing. So I tried my luck with raw garlic, grated fine, leave to sit for 10 minutes, pour some olive oil over, and swallow. Did it monday night, Tuesday morning, lunchtime, and by Tuesday evening it was down. Kept up the garlic and by the next day it was gone, till today!! I did keep on with the garlic, but once a day after the cure. It also seems to immunize one against flu, because all sorts of people with colds/flu were around me, coughing and sneezing, but I caught it not! Also my skin feels good, not dry and tight like before which may be the olive oil (cold pressed extra virgin) Thanks EarthClinic and all who contribute!!"

[YEA]  08/24/2009: Amanda from Seattle, Wa writes: "Tooth Abscess

Garlic. Use it.

I have had a tooth abscess on my lower jaw due to an unfinished root canal I had 9 months ago. Its swollen with pus and the pain has almost been unbearable. I'm one of those lucky ones with no insurance, medical, dental or otherwise and I became so desperate that I actually tried to drain the abscess myself with a needle and some otc pain reliever.

It was too painful and very difficult to hold my mouth open at the same time.

Then, upon stumbling to this site, I discovered something quite wonderful. GARLIC. A whole clove. Cut in half. I knew it was gonna burn, but #%$&!

Be prepared for pain. Especially if you've cut your gum up with a needle. I could only keep the garlic on initially for like 5 seconds, but every time I made myself do it a little longer with a little more and WHALA.

About an hour later i can hold the whole clove in my mouth, cut side against the abscess and I can tell you now, that the swelling has already decreased SIGNIFICANTLY.

Consider me impressed. I'm going to continue with this and hope it actually removes some of the abscess. Thank God for this site.

GARLIC FOR THE WIN."

08/26/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx replies: "you might also try making up a ball of calcium bentonite clay and sticking it where the abcess is. this will help draw the pus out. it will also soothe the irritated area.
maybe do the garlic for a while and then the clay when you get tired of the garlic. or you could even crush some garlic and put it into some bentonite. also take turmeric. i have even had relief from abcess pain by swishing some tumeric mixed with oil in my mouth and brushing my teeth and gums with this mixture. good luck :) also eat raw garlic of course ;)"

[YEA]  05/31/2009: Michael from Denver, CO writes: "Toothache and Tooth Abscess Remedies : I have been battling with a stubborn wisdom tooth that is growing in sideways. I lived abroad for the last couple of years and now that I am back in the US, I don't have health insurance. Usually, my mouth is fine. But every once in a while my gums and cheek will swell up around the tooth to the point that I cannot close my mouth without biting them. The inflammation spreads to my throat, sinuses and ear. In the past I have had to resort to strong antibiotics to stop the swelling. I prefer not to use them so I have tried mouth wash, hydrogen peroxide, salt water, ice, etc with slow and little success.

Yesterday, my gum flared up again and became worse over night. After reading these posts, I immediately went to the store for garlic. I chopped a 1/4 inch slice from the clove and placed it between my cheek and teeth. I spit out the slice after five minutes and could close my mouth without biting my cheek and gums! I replaced the slice with another, and another. When the burning stopped, I would gently chew the garlic to release more juice, when the garlic breaks up I replace it with a new slice. After a half hour, my pain has been cut in half and the swelling has gone down 75%. It is working beautifully. Thank you to those who posted their experiences."

[YEA]  05/02/2009: Monet from Cincinnati, Ohio writes: "Hello, I use your site all of the time and want to thank you for such useful information!

Recently, my feet started swelling along with blood pressure spiking to very high levels. I do not have high blood pressure so I could not understand what was going on. By day three I figured out I had a tooth infection that was probably starting to seep into my blood causing the swelling, blood pressure spikes, tingling in head, legs, and feet. After speaking with a dentist who felt they were unrelated and would not give me any advice on whether I should go to the ER, I decided to use garlic infused with yogurt (yogurt helps it go down easier). I took about 1 T. of crushed garlic and 1 T. of yogurt. Within 5 minutes the swelling in my feet went away and I felt my blood pressure had gone down. I took my blood pressure and it had dropped over 50 points! Obviously, the blood pressure spikes were brought on by the tooth infection, unbeknownst to the young Dentist!!!

I cook with garlic all of the time, but RAW GARLIC is terrific for blood pressure and infections!!!

Thanks!"

GARLIC

41 YEA
1 BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

[YEA]  03/03/2009: Leila from Amsterdam, The Netherlands writes: "Garlic cured my jaw infection! One of molars in my upper jaw broke off about a year ago, all the way down to the gums. I don't have insurance and am mortally afraid of going to the dentist, so when my cheek swelled up yesterday, I panicked. I tried green clay, bit it didn't help much. After sleeping 3 hours and not knowing what to do about the pain (painkillers didn't help much either), I decided to do a search on the Internet and stumbled across your site.

Garlic worked wonders! I chewed it and pressed the pulp against the 'hole' between my teeth. It stung so badly, I had tears in my eyes, but after 5 minutes the pain had subsided. Am absolutely overjoyed! Will continue to treat with garlic, I have a really good feeling about it. Thank you!"

[YEA]  03/03/2009: Carl from Chicago, IL, United States writes: "Garlic and toothache, YEA. I have a terrible toothache where I had a root cannal about 10 years ago, I believe it to be a bacterial infection. The only thing that takes the pain away is raw garlic. I'll chew up a bulb and hold it by the tooth, yeah it burns like heck but it takes the pain away. Works better than vicodin. I am also taking oil of oregano abstract to help fight the bacterial infection."

[YEA]  02/25/2009: Jennie from Fort Wayne, IN writes: "I am in the middle of a bad sinus infection with a lot of the pain settling in my jaw and bottom teeth. Last night I finally went to the clinic and got on an antibiotic. When I got home, I was miserable and sobbing from the pain, so I sliced up a garlic clove and placed it along my gumline and held it there for a few minutes - as long as I could. This was the only comfort I'd had - nothing over-the-counter was working, and it allowed me to go to sleep. When I woke up this morning, I had a lot of drainage down the back of my throat and a giant ball of pus where I had placed the garlic. I am convinced that it drew out my infection."

[YEA]  02/16/2009: Dean from Kansas City, MO writes: "I had a tooth ache and sore gums beginning on Friday night. Didn't sleep hardly at all. Saturday morning, I got out the garlic - 1 pealed clove. I sliced the clove in half and put each half on the sore gums, cut side facing gums/tooth. It burned like crazy. Kept it there and moved it around for at least 30 minutes, maybe longer. I also ate one clove of garlic toward the end of this. Slept much better that night and on Sunday, I still had some soreness. probably caused by the garlic burning but the tooth pain was totally gone. It's now Monday morning and I can hardly tell that I even had a problem. Garlic rules!"
