Cayenne Pepper Cure for Strep Throat
Folk Remedy Ingredients:
- Cayenne Pepper - 1/4 up to 1 Teaspoon
- Warm Glass of Water
Far and away the most popular strep throat remedy. Add 1/4 teaspoon (up to 1 teaspoon) of powdered cayenne pepper to a glass of warm water and repeatedly gargle with it. Sore throat pain vanishes, and other cold-like symptoms improve as well! (If your lips are raw, put on a little chapstick first to protect them.)
[YEA] 12/03/2007: Dana from Los Angeles, California: "I started having a sore throat on Tuesday, that night I broke out in chills and ended up staying home for the rest of the week. I was in excruiciating pain. On Sat morning I couldn't take the pain in longer and went to Kaiser walk in. The doc gave me some Amoxicillan(sp?) and said to check back to see if it's a strep. He just told me to keep doing what I was doing, which was everything to stop the pain, two motrins, salt gargle, apple cider vinegar gargle, throat losengers and Chamomille tea, which only gave me slight comfort. Late saturday night my sis made corn and weiners and she put a dash of Cayenne pepper in it. She gave me a small bowel, because she wasn't sure if I would be able to finish it. I was so tired of soup and hungry so I ate it. I noticed from the first and second bite how it didn't hurt, but actully felt good and soothing. I remember thinking this hurts so good. After the third bowl (I was really hungry) I noticed the pain in my throat had immediately subsided, so I said to my sis what did you put in this. I have tried everything and I eat this and I can actually swallow with no pain. She told me she put Cayenne in it and that I should try her Lemonade. So I did and I was ABSOLUTELY AMAZED!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE! Oh my goodness. I asked my sister if we could market this. Do people know about this. I mean why don't the companies that make throat losengers make Cayenne losengers. The Cayenne in the food had already stopped the pain, but the sipping on the tea just sealed the deal. I made more sunday night just to keep it going and now this morning I have no residue or nothing of a sore throat. I told any and everyone that would listen. Now I want to know about other naturopatic remedies. Here's the concoction: 1/2 real lemonade, 2 tablesp of maple syrup, she bought organic grade B, and a dash of Cayenne. Put hot water in it, stir and just sip on it."Replies

[YEA] 09/03/2007: Tiana from Flower Mound, TX: "My son had 2 episodes of strep throat within a few months and then sure enough, I got it too (first time in my 41 yrs). I had it diagnosed by a doctor, and got a antibiotic prescription. I told him that I was going to try and cure it without drugs first and he STRONGLY suggested that I not. But, I really wanted to see if this would work. So...I gargled with cayenne pepper (every 1/2 hr or so), drank warm raw apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper mixed with honey 3 times per day the first 2 days, and also sucked raw garlic cloves (remedies). YEP - I REAKED! But, I was feeling LOTS better by the 2nd day and almost myself again with 3 days. I continued the ACV/cay. pepper tea once per day and sucking the garlic for an entire week. Went back to the doctor and they did the strep test that has to be sent to the lab, just to make sure it was gone. YEP - completely. The doc couldn't believe it. I gave him this website and told him to pass it on to any patient who doesn't want (or need) antibiotics. Note - drinking the acv/cay pepper tea was at first difficult, but I quickly got use to it and actually enjoyed it because it made me feel so much better. It would be very difficult however, to get a child to drink it and my children will take ANYTHING."

[YEA] 05/16/2007: Lindsey from Kissimmee, FL: "Go figure that I became ill on the day I'm graduating from high school. I had been feeling lousy for the past few days, but today it finally kicked in: sinus headache, sore throat, lots of chest congestion. Of course something would happen to me like this, today! (I'm not usually one to get sick. I have became ill with strep throat without fail every winter break through high school, but that's it for the entire year) In an act of desperation, (of course I didn't want to go to the doctor today) I googled "home remedies for sore throat and congestion," and this site popped up. As I began reading I wasn't too sure that it would work. But as I said, I was desperate. This morning I could barely tear myself away from my bed, so I forced myself to go to Publix and pick up some ground Cayenne Pepper and a bottle of Pure Clove Honey. I meant to pick up a few lemons as well, but it slipped my mind. As I arrived home I mixed the honey and pepper and 3 ounces of water together to take it as a shot. To be honest I was a bit nervous to taste the concoction, but after I got up the nerve to try it I was amazed! I immediately began having to run to the bathroom to cough up phlegm! I had a cup of ice cold water ready in the case of a burning sensation, but there wasn't any. I was impressed. Now about 25 minutes later I think I might just be able to have the energy to walk across the stage and graduate from high school tonight. :) Thank you so much for creating this site!!! It's been a life saver."
[YEA] 05/08/2007: Joanne from East Sussex, United Kingdom: "Last Month i was treated twice for my strep throat from my doctors the first one i was prescribed on Amoxycillin 250 mg - Failed so he written another antibiotics called Erythromycin and it also didnt work as everytime i take it it does work.but i went back to my Gp.he told me that i have a viral sore throat and there is nothing more he can do & it will go eventually.since then i have been looking into your website, read it and tried Ceyanne Pepper,Tell you what it was the best remedy i have ever come across..my sore throat vanished in two days of ceyanne pepper. i use a half a teaspoon ceyanne pepper in half warm water, gargled it and spit it out for two mins - three times a day..also sprinkeled a few on my pasta..delicious but hot !!!! hope you try it & it works wonders and most natural thing instead of taking doctors drugs !."
[NAY] 05/05/2007: kathi from Mount Olive, Illinois: "I have had a severe case of strepp for 3 days. I cannot sleep and have tried everything from the cayenne to the acv to the hydrogen peroxide. I cannot get rid of this pain. It is now 3 am and i am tired but in too much pain to sleep."
[YEA] 04/28/2007: Gracie from Graciechappaqua, New York: "Strep Throat is one of the most painful things I have experienced. After relentless tea (I'm sick of going to the bathroom) and coughdrops (which wore away the lining of my mouth), i decided to try a google remedy. After a few sips of Cayenne water my razor blade throat had subsided. THANK THE HEAVENS, my boyfriend is happy because now i dont bother him for tea at 2 am."
[YEA] 04/14/2007: Jenny from Cincinnati, OH: "I had horrible flu symptoms and a sore throat. Tested positive for Strep at the Dr. s office. I was put on the ZPack and the symptoms only worsened. As a last resort I looked for any remedy... and found the cayenne pepper recipe! My throat is actually starting to feel better in just 2 hours! Thank you!!"
[YEA] 04/04/2007: Patrick McLean from Chicago, IL: "I had a severe Sore throat and was convinced it was to develop into Strep Throat. My symptoms were: Swollen Glands, Sore Throat, difficulty swallowing, and a slight cough. Skeptical to try the remedy, I mixed a teaspoon of 100% Organic Ground Cayenne Pepper with about 12 oz. of water. I gargled for about 5 minutes, getting fed up with the spicy burning in the back of my throat. After that I took a packet of Theraflu Tea medicine and in the morning my throat was 100% better! I highly recommend this remedy and will always use this in the future."
[YEA] 03/27/2007: Jewel from Richmond, VA: "CAYENNE PEPPER REALLY WORKS! The first night I mixed cayenne and pure lemon juice, and painted the back of my throat with the mixture. The following day I gargled with 2 tablespoons of African Ground Red Pepper (cayenne) mixed with a 1/2 cup of water. I gargled every hour for 5 hours. I then took 2 Motrin and Tylenol Sore Throat and Cough. My strep throat is GONE!!!!! It only took 2 days to cure it. The third day it was gone. This sure beat taking antibiotics."Replies

[NAY] 01/18/2007: Emily from Beaumont, TX: "After reading all of the positive feedback concerning cayenne pepper and sore throats, I decided to try it. It was very uncomfortable and after a day and a half, my throat just got worse. The third day after my symptoms increased, I went to the doctor and found out I had strep. I honesty think the cayenne pepper exacerbated my throat. I will say, however, that I have been accompanying my antibiotics with a mixture of 2 tbsp pure honey, 2 tbsp Broncolin (Mexican herbal throat syrup), the juice of one large lime, and one clove of chopped up garlic heated in the microwave for one minute. Now THAT has greatly eased my suffering and I would recommed that people try any remedy containing honey and/or garlic, before they try cayenne pepper."
[YEA] 01/17/2007: Stacee from Rexburg, ID: "Wow! This works so well! I have spent the last 4 days in bed with strep that even antibiotics hadn't seemed to help. I was taking everything I could think of to make it go away. My throat remained swollen and painful. After not being able to crawl out of bed for 4 days I drug myself to the computer and found this site .I tried your cayenne pepper remedy and it was instant relief! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! I can actually swallow now with out feeling like my head will explode. After not getting any sleep because of the pain I am looking forward to getting a full night of sleep. Thanks again for the great cure! PS the cayenne also worked on the migraine that I have had along with the strep, so I had 2 cures for the price of one!"
[YEA] 01/01/2007: Dave from Whitewater, WI: "I tried the Cayenne Pepper for Strep Throat. This really works. At first I was a bit skeptical about the whole cayenne pepper, but it really does work!! Within two days my throat was feeling better already. The only thing I don't know is HOW it works, just thank god it works."
[YEA] 11/29/2006: Gord from Toronto, Ontario: "It's 4:am and i just woke up gagging on my tonsils. it's 48 hours into a cycle of penicillin my doctor prescribed to me for strep throat and my sore throat's getting worse and my tonsils are so enflamed that they're triggering a gag reflex in the back of my mouth. i've never had a serious infection before and now with the anti-biotics not working i was starting to get worried that it was one of those super-bugs! i couldn't sleep so i jumped online and came across this site. reading the stories calmed me down alot (i'm not prone to anxiety but i think being a father of a toddler has something to do with it) and i immediately whipped up 1/2tsp of cayenne w/ 6 oz. of warm water for a gargle. i don't eat spicy foods because it upsets my stomach but i was pretty desperate. turns out for some reason it's not spicy at all, maybe because i didn't swallow it. just a little tingle and now even that's gone as i'm typing this. my tonsils not touching my tongue anymore so i feel better. i'm gonna gargle a few more times and head for bed. thx for this great site. i'm going to tell my friends about it and the peppers."
[YEA] 11/03/2006: Lorelei from Utah: "My husband has been having repeated episodes of strep throat, and passing them on to me. I detest antibiotics because they play havoc with body, but I can't afford not to treat strep throat because I end up with a condition called guttate psoriasis (small, raised, white, scaly patches everywhere, and I mean everywhere, on my body; it took over a year to disapper the last time I had it). My husband has tried grapefruit seed extract to cure his strep throat, but that didn't work at all. So this Halloween, when I felt certain that I had strep throat, I turned to the internet in desperation, and found this site. I'm not a big fan of spicy food, so the strongest dilution I could handle was about 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper in about 6 oz of water. I gargled with it every 15 minutes, as recommended, for 2 hours, and then gave up, feeling that it wasn't helping (and my mouth was on fire). I passed out for a nap, and woke up with my sore throat mostly gone! And I felt like I might even be able to go trick-or-treating with my kids that night! I continued gargling periodically for the rest of that day and the next. It's been a few (gargle-free) days now, and my throat and energy are fine. I'm impressed! I must add that I have also been taking high doses of Vit C and echinacea. While my throat was sore, I was also drinking a lot of warm water with raw honey and lemon. My only complaint is that by the end of the second day, the cayenne pepper gargle made me gag. That night, my husband served up steak that had been marinating in a mixture which included a small amount of cayenne pepper, unbeknownst to me, and I couldn't figure out why the taste of the steak was making me ill until I asked if there was cayenne pepper in it!! I have been perusing the rest of the site, and can't wait to try some more natural cures!"
