[YEA] 02/27/2009: Jennie from Ashville, AL: "I've had strep throat twice in the last year. I'm convinced the first time I got it from being exposed to it in the doctor's office. After a round of antibiotics, I went six months before the next strep attack. Once again, I went on antibiotics. When I felt strep coming on for the third time six months later, I did not want to go the antibiotic route yet again. I've never been an antibiotic fan, as I do not like to weaken my own immune system, and I also believe we are creating "super bugs" by killing off the weakest strains of infections with antibiotics, leaving only the strong to prey on us. After a day of agony (tight throat, swollen tonsils, difficulty swallowing), I started Googling and found Earth Clinic. I'd heard about cayenne pepper for other ailments, but I'd never tried it for sore throat (let alone strep). I figured it couldn't hurt to try, so I began gargling 1/8 tsp of cayenne powder in half a glass of warm water. The immediate effects astonished me. The pain was cut in half right away. I could swallow almost normally, and the tightness subsided. I continued to gargle every two hours until bedtime. At bedtime, I mixed 1/8 tsp cayenne into a shot glass of lemon juice and knocked it back. It was a bit hot and sour, but not enough to bother me. When I got up the next morning, my throat was a bit on the dry side, but the swelling had subsided significantly. I again gargled with warm water and 1/8 tsp of cayenne, drinking the last little sip so it would go down my throat. Felt GREAT. That day marked the turning point in my illness.
I then read about apple cider vinegar here and decided to try putting 3 tbsp in a glass of water to sip throughout the morning. While sour, the comfort it provided was amazing, so I continued throughout the day and into the next day. By the end of day three, I had only a faint scratchiness in the back of my throat. No more swelling, no more pain, no cough. It is now six days later, and, aside from slight sniffles, I am symptom-free. I am so thankful I found Earth Clinic and tried these remedies instead of going for another round of antibiotics. Obviously, medicine has its place, but I really think we've got to build our body's natural immune system to fight off the vast majority of viral and bacterial infections.
Thanks, Earth Clinic!"
[YEA] 01/19/2009: Kristie from Las Vegas, NV: "Strep Throat Tonsilitits cure...a lifesaver!
I am home sick today and my thoughts were to go see the doctor about my inflamed and white tonsils. Just the thought of getting the energy to get dressed has me exausted. Waiting in the emergecy room just be told to wait forever and be sent home for a prescription of antibiotics with a total cost of 100 bucks or more has me feeling sicker.
My throat is sore, raw, and I can't eat a thing without screaming in pain. I came across your website with all the postings about cayanne pepper and acv. I am a firm believer in home remedies so I concocted a mixture of acv, cayanne pepper, sea salt and hot water. I gargled with this for 1 min and to my amazement I was able to swallow some of the mixture to help with the inflamed tissues gargling could not reach. Acv works miricles and now I feel almost human again. Thanks for your website. Your a lifesaver!"
[YEA] 10/20/2007: Gabe from Bonita Springs, Florida: "Ok....So I could hardly swallow, looked in the back of my throat and it was littered with white patches, a sure sign of Strep Throat. It progressively got worse, that's when I stumbled onto this site! Thank You!!!! I swear to you, this works, and it worked quickly!!! A couple of things. I recommed the following: Drink 1 whole lemon fresh squeezed juice, some pure honey for sweetness, a few dashes of Apple Cider Vinegar (the taste was quite strong for me...so I didn't do a whole lot). A couple ounces of water, and a bunch of dashes of cayenne pepper (until the mix turned red). I took this as a shot!!! Bottoms up.. a couple times a day. In between those shots, I gargaled with cayenne pepper water mix (about 6 mouth fulls each time) again, water and cayenne unitl it turned good and red. In addition to that I sucked on Garlic gloves, raw garlic cloves. A couple of times a day. They weren't that bad. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS SITE!!! My throat looked awful, I couldn't hardly swallow, and just feel plain terrible! My energy is through the roof and throat is 100% better!!! In less than 3 days.....THANK YOU....THIS WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!"
[YEA] 06/20/2007: Michelle Snuggs from Houston, TX: "Apple Cider Vinegar, Cayenne Pepper and Honey. Once a year I would get strep throat, tonsilitis, all kinds of infection in the ear, nose and throat area. Well I can truly say. . . I looked on your site after being in pain for a day and gargling with applecider vinegar and decided to try the other ingredients. After on sip my throat seemed to be opening up. My tonsils are truly swollen and it makes me want to cry when I have to swallow, thanks alot for this cool remedy. My glands are swollen also and I can't stand the copay for doctors so I look for remedies always."
[YEA] 12/26/2006: Nafa from Tampa, FL: "I've been bugged with a sore throat/strep for a little while now and being that it was Christmas holiday all the doctors were closed. I came across your website and the this idea and ran out to the only open market to get some ACV and Cayenne and then rushed home to try it immediately. So far so good--it definitely has killed some of the pain after one treatment. I made a tea of it with hot water, pepper, and ACV (though I upped it to 10 dashes of pepper as I'm a little too used to spicy food). I also bought some fresh garlic to try that route at the same time. Can't hurt to try both! :) Fingers crossed that continues to kill whatever is in there. Thanks so much for the tips!"
[YEA] 04/11/2006: Shay from Jupiter, FL: "I went online and searched everywhere for remedies for a sore throat. At the time I was unaware it was strep throat. I stumbled upon this web site and started to read about the "miracles" of ACV. At first I thought, what kind of cult followers are these? In the end I was desperate and needed some relief now since my doctor appt. wasn't till the next day at noon. I made a few cups of ACV and Cayenne pepper with honey that afternoon and evening. Less than 24 hrs later my throat pain was gone and the antibiotic the Doctor prescribed wasn't even in my system long enough to work that fast. Within 2 days of the initial symptoms of strep, I felt like I had nothing wrong with me. I am a believer of AVC and Cayenne pepper and have decided to add it to my life on an everyday basis. Anything that gave me that much relief and energy so fast and had no long ugly pharmaceutical name behind it, must be good for me. Now the only problem I have is trying to get my 4yr old to take it. Any suggestions? Thank you Earth Clinic for life long advice!"
Barley, ACV, Cayenne, Garlic, Sea Salt

[YEA] 09/24/2007: Evelyn from Missouri, USA: "I recently found out that a friend we had been at the park with came down with strep throat. She called me to make sure I was feeling alright. I had been feeling a sore throat, and within a few hours, it became very painful. I could not deal with strep! I have too much responsibility right now, and so I searched online for a natural cure. I found this site, and found it fascinating. I couldn't decide what to try.
I have used barley water in the past as well. Here is what I did- I made a drink using barley water, apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper, garlic, some sea salt, lemon juice and some honey to help with the flavor. I drank a cup warm, and WOW did I feel the effect. My throat began to burn, but it was soothing. I drank the entire glass. Put the rest of the 'tea' in the fridge, and continued drinking a cup every so often through out the day. I felt no more sore throat later that day, and thought I was cured, so I stopped drinking it. For two days, I felt great. Then decided to eat some sweets (chocolate candies) and instantly my sore throat started up again. I felt like I had just added some kindling back to the fire. So I made more of the drink, gargled it and swallowed it. I did this through the night, and the next day, and totally cured it. I don't know if I had strep. I know it hurt, and my friend had it. So I was up for trying. My children all have it now, and I am trying to figure out which remedy they will be able to handle, as they are not very interested in the drink that I used. :) But it totally works!!!
I have bookmarked this site, and continue to come back to it often. I know this stuff works. As for making barley water, barley isn't always easy to find. I use whole pearled barley, found at a local amish store. you can probably use barley flakes found at the grocery store as well. I put a handful or two into a dry hot pan and shake it, so they don't stick to the pan. I do this over high/or med/high heat until they start browning in color. Not burnt, just light browned. I then turn off the heat, and pour water to fill the pan,and let it sit for a few minutes. You can gargle that and drink it, but I prefer adding everything else. I then added about 1/4 cup of ACV, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/8-1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, dash of sea salt, and then honey to taste. It is such a soothing drink. I didn't like it at first. I thought it was too strong, but I am growing to like the taste. Probably because it totally cured my sore throat. OH, I ALSO HAD AN EAR ACHE!!!! And this helped with the ear pain. It felt like it was helping to clear up the ear ache from the inside. It has been great! THANK YOU Earth Clinic, and thank you thank you thank you to all of you who have written in your suggestions. I am so glad I have found this site."

[YEA] 04/19/2008: Rob from Toronto, Canada: "I get strep throat literally every 4 months because I never had my tonsils pulled as a kid. I've tried everything to prevent it from coming but nothing has ever worked until it comes down to getting penicillin form the doctor. I herd of Beta Glucan from a lady at a health food store and she told me to take one every morning so it stays in your system. I havent had strep throat in 2 years until I moved to Australia and ran out. I now appreciate how well it really works and I can't wait to get it back in my system."
Replies04/28/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "To Rob from Toronto, Canada (4/l9/08) and anyone else with recurrent strep throat & thinks tonsillectomy is a cure or prevents strep throat forever after - Rob writes that since his tonsils weren't pulled as a child, he kept getting recurrent strep throat infections - Rob, don't let anyone tell you that removing your tonsils will solve the problem. The only thing it does is remove a couple of immune system glands that are doing their job diligently and you don't want to kill off your soldiers working to prevent that infection from getting past them. They "pulled" my tonsils because they were swollen when I was 7 years old. I have had strep throat many times since. Two of my 4 children lost their tonsils in childhood, the other two till have theirs. It made absolutely no difference in the sore throats and ear infections, in the two without tonsils, just as it didn't stop the sore throats and ear infections for me. What did stop the sore throats and ear infections in all 4 of my children was learning to start them on benadryl when the elm trees bloomed in the spring and continue until the trees were all leafed out. The goldenrod blooming in the fall was my cue to restart the benadryl and continue until the first killing frost. This worked on the 2 without tonsils and the 2 with. So when you get a sore throat, just mix up some good old apple cider vinegar about half & half with raw local hooney and rest asured that it will kill the strep organism. Then you will never have to worry about an increased incidence of Hodgkins in the ones who had tonsillectomies, as I did after reading that little blurb in one of the medical journals."

[YEA] 04/04/2008: Mark from Berkeley, CA: "My sister turned me onto oil of bitter orange years ago to cure strep throat. At first I didn't believe her, especially when she told me that she got some agar and swabbed her throat and then swabbed the agar and had it tested positive for strep. She then used the oil of bitter orange 3x a day and for 3 days after all symptoms are gone and done. I tried this and it worked for me too. How to apply: Oil of bitter orange tastes very intense. Take a long handled q tip and dip into oil. Apply to inside of throat where it hurts. It will taste pretty bad but for the few who have done this 3 x a day and then for 3 more days after all symptoms are gone, Also, do not eat or drink anything for at least 30 minutes after applying so it can do it's work. it has worked beautifully. I have also used oil of oregano which I am told is even stronger to great results for a very sore throat."

[YEA] 12/30/2012: Jessica from Riverside, Ca: "I contracted strep throat on my right tonsil (unmistakable white patches) and spent several days taking ibuprophen for the pain, hoping that the strep would clear up on it's own. When it became difficult to swallow, I found the home remedy of using cayenne pepper on this website. I applied the cayenne pepper with a qtip dipped in honey and then the pepper, directly to my inflammed tonsil. The next morning the swelling and pain were reduced by roughly 50%! I reapplied the honey/cayenne pepper twice more throughout the day and by the second morning the white patches were almost gone and the swelling was as well. By day three my throat was completely back to normal! I am absolutely amazed that such a simple cure worked so well! Thank you earth clinic!"
[YEA] 03/22/2012: Dawn from Orlando, Fl: "WOW, what a cure! I woke up a few nights ago with a raging sore throat; every swallow felt like I was choking down razor blades and I was in tears. Sleep was impossible so I did a net search for remedies and found earth clinic.
I've tried ACV in the past without much effect, but cayenne was a new idea to me. It sounded terrible, but I was in too much pain and willing to try anything. Mixed up a cup of warm water with about a quarter teaspoon of pepper, and added a squirt of lemon for good measure.
I found the gargle much easier than I expected. It felt pleasantly warm, not blazing hot, wrapping my throat in soothing heat. The relief was instantaneous and within minutes the raw pain had subsided to a dull ache that I knew I could sleep through. When I awoke the next morning I still had a cold, but the sore throat was gone, and never came back while the virus ran its course. Wow. I am a believer! Cayenne really works!"
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 04/30/2011: Shelby from Blue Springs, Missouri, United States: "Okay, so I've had strep throat for three days and haven't been dealing with just a sore throat- it's the whole deal: body aches, head aches, and a horrible fever. I'm on antibiotics, the maximum dosage that I can have, but the pain has been getting worse in my throat. I'm also an asthmatic, which, of course, does not help the situation in the slightest because it makes it very difficult for me to breathe.
I Googled home remedies for strep and this was the first website that came up. The most revered fix seemed to be the cayenne pepper (and that was the only thing I had in my cabinets that was on the list) so I went ahead and tried it. I just sprinkled some into a little bit of orange juice and drank it down. Since I cannot stand cayenne pepper, not because it's spicy but because I hate it, I followed the glass down with some milk, but I sipped it because I was afraid the cayenne wouldn't work properly if I didn't. I must say, it worked a lot better than I expected it to. Although I can still feel the swollen, tender lump in my throat, the pain was 95% gone after I had finished the drink and I can breathe a little easier now.
Hopefully, this response will work for somebody else, the way it worked for me."
[YEA] 11/28/2010: Bill from Philadelphia, Penna: "I've been reading many of the comments on using cayenne pepper for a sore throat and also for strep. I figured by now we all know it works so there was no reason for me to add my two cents. But so many people seem to have a hard time with it. Even the ones who have no problem at all are making it much more difficult than it has to be. When I feel one coming on all I do is take a Q-tip and wet it. Then dip it in the cayenne and dab it on your throat where you feel the pain. If you need more turn it around or get a new one and keep going until you cover as much as you need to. I was surprised that you don't even taste it and no burning at all.
A few weeks back my throat started killing me. I never even looked at it all day. The next morning I woke up in great pain. I looked in the mirror and there it was. A big white spot on the back of my throat about the size of a jelly bean. I dabbed a little cayenne on it and never even thought about it again. About two days later I remembered it and thought "That's weird. I wonder what happened to my Strep" I looked in the mirror and couldn't see anything. Gone.
The Q-tip works fine but what I've been doing is using a camel hair brush. It's a number 6. They're actually meant for painting models(cars, planes etc. )It works better because it has a much longer handle and you can see better because you're not stuffing all your fingers and half your hand into your mouth. Just rinse it well and then rinse it in some rubbing alcohol or peroxide so you don't keep recontaminating yourself. Also dump a little of the cayenne out into a cup or on a plate or something and then when your done rinse it down the drain. Never dip right into your cayenne container. Anyway hope this helps those who don't/can't gargle the cayenne. I know it's not pleasant, I've tried. This is much easier plus the cayenne is EXTREMELY concentrated and not literally watered down."
Replies[YEA] 11/14/2011: Krasavitza from Philadelphia, Pa, Usa replies: "Yesterday I could feel the strep throat coming on so, I came to my favorite forum to find out how to treat it. I went to the doctor today and have the antibiotics just in case, since this is my first time trying a home-remedy for strep throat, but I am hoping to not have to start taking the prescription. After reading numerous posts on strep throat, I decided to take everyone's advice and tweak it to what I hope will work for me.What I did was take about a teaspoon of raw, organic honey and mixed into it about 1/2 teaspoon of organic cayenne pepper. It made a thick, sticky reddish paste. I then (using a small flashlight to aid in seeing back into my throat) used a cotton swab to dip into the paste and then brush it onto my tonsils and uvula. (the uvula is the dangly thing hanging in the center of the back of your mouth and the tonsils are on the sides). I am keeping it in a tiny tupperware container to use until my strep throat (hopefully) goes away.
I was gargling with a warm-water and cayenne mixture, but that was burning my tongue so much that I thought this might be better; plus I'm applying it directly to the problem so, I think it is a better idea. I love that it doesn't burn at all when I apply it directly to my tonsils!
I will post an update later on! :)"
[YEA] 06/15/2012: Ursula from Weston, Fl replies: "I loved the Cayenne on a Q Tip idea! It worked! I dipped it in a bit of honey first to make it sticky and then the cayenne. I swabbed the white pus pustules on my tonsils with the cayenne Q tip. Gagged a bit but was worth it because the pain was gone in 5 minutes. Did this 4 times a day for next two days. By day two was able to remove the white spots with the Q tip. Kind of gross but I got the infection out! No doctor no antibiotics! Wow!"
[YEA] 04/16/2010: Kristy from Denver, Co, Usa: "My son who is 12, was complaining about a really bad sore throat last night, he was talking funny and could not swallow any foods and had a hard time with liquids as well. When I checked his mouth I noticed there were 2 white puss pockets and knew he was getting strep. I really did not want to take him to the Emergency room last night and pay a BIG out of pocket expense, so I looked up strep on Earth clinic and found a strep throat remedie using Cayenne Pepper and lemon juice. Well, I put 1/2 tbl spoon of cayenne pepper and 1/2 tbl spoon fresh squeezed lemon juice in 1 cup of warm water and had him gargle through out the evening. At first he was complaining that it wasn't working, and it was a little spicy. When he got up this morning boy was he excited, when he was able to swallow breakfast and there was no more pain at all. I am very very excited about using this site more often in the future. First time HAPPY Earth clinc remedie user!!!"
Replies[YEA] 11/20/2011: Jessie from Lakewood, Ohio, United States replies: "Yes! It works! I was skeptical but I did it nonetheless. I gargled before bed and felt like it did nothing to help. When I woke up I felt what I would estimate to be 70% reduction in swelling and pain. Unbelieveable."
03/22/2012: Jayne from London, Uk replies: "I really hope this works for me. I have had a mild case of strep throat before, with the white patches in my mouth, but didn't realise it was strep until now, when I have a really bad, an obvious case! Don't really want to endure the 1-hour minimum wait to see my doctor - think that might kill me!So I'm going to try this. The only thing I want to know though, is how much cayenne to use? People seem to have used varying amounts.
Also is it best to mix with lemon juice as some people have suggested? Makes sense I suppose with the vit C, (although I know it's to be gargled not swallowed). Thanks"
[YEA] 04/14/2009: Stephanie from Ruidoso, New Mexico, USA: "Cayenne pepper for strep throat works GREAT! I have had strep throat four times (confirmed) in the past five months. I went to the doctor, took the antibiotics given and about 2-3 weeks after the antibiotics were finished, I would get symptoms again and my doctor suggested seeing an ENT doctor to get my tonsils out. At the first signs of strep throat this time (achey, sore throat, lump in throat) I saw this site and thought why NOT try the cayenne pepper. I had two small white patches in my throat so I KNEW it was heading to strep and I started gargling 1/8 tsp organic cayenne pepper with warm water around 5pm. I can NOT eat hot foods and was scared to death but it wasn't bad at all. It burned my tongue more than anything but I was desperate! I also added some cayenne pepper to my chicken noodle soup. I probably gargled once an hour at first but right before going to bed, I gargled every fifteen minutes for about four times. I went to bed (still seeing the small spots on my throat but feeling better). I slept for about 7 hours- which was GREAT and first thing looked down my throat and one spot is gone and the other has been reduced dramatically. Now, I have to admit that I caught this one early and I think that helped immensly but I am a believer! Thanks so much to all your postings! I am going to shout it from the rooftops - CAYENNE REALLY WORKS!"
Replies05/01/2009: Stephanie from Ruidoso, New Mexico replies: "Hi all! I posted about 2 1/2 weeks ago about my reoccuring strep throat and how Cayenne pepper worked great. And it did, but I looked in my throat last night and there are little white spots again and my right tonsil is swollen and it hurts to swallow. I guess my question is: Will it come and go for a while until my immune system is built up to fight it? I was surprised to see white spots on my throat again. It took about three-five days to get rid of the sore throat/spots the last time and have only been symptom free for a little over a week. I have done the antibiotics route and for 5 months, it kept coming back - so I don't want to try the antibiotics again. My symptoms are less severe this time around so I know that the ACV and the cayenne pepper are helping. Should I not worry and just keep trying to fight this naturally?
Any input is welcome!
Thanks!"
07/11/2012: Carolyn from Milford, Ct replies: "Last year my seven year-old daughter spent almost 7 months fighting recurring strep throat. They doctors wanted to remove her tonsils, until I did a little investigating. It turns out that pets, particularly cats, can be carriers, as can mature humans. The carriers exhibit no symptoms/white spots, but pass along the infection to those who are vulnerable. If you live with any creatures, human or furry, they may be the culprits of your re-infection. Treat them while you treat yourself with cayenne, and you may be very pleased with the results. I know we were!"
