[YEA] 01/08/2007: Fiona from Fife, Scotland writes: "I have a few sore throat remedies to share.
Firstly: Fresh fruit ice lollies (popsicles to Americans?) are excellent soothers, especially for children. Sucking on any ice is helpful to the pain, but the added vitamin C from fresh fruit helps the healing process. If you can't find fresh fruit lollies in the shops (Tesco's Finest do fresh orange ones for UK residents) then just squeeze an orange or lemon into your ice tray and suck on them. Combine them with your favourite pain killer, and the world seems a better place.
Secondly: Gargle with neat whisky. No, this isn't a joke - it's absolutely, one hundred percent my favourite sore throat remedy. (Then again - I am a Scot!). I recommend NOT swallowing every time, unless you're in a party mood, so don't use your best single malt. But gargling with potent alcohol, the stronger the better, not only numbs your throat so you feel no pain, but disinfects it, too. I had a sore throat recently that lasted one single, solitary day. I reckon the whisky killed it stone dead."

[YEA] 01/04/2007: Jeff from Shorthills, NJ writes: "Sip some brandy or whiskey very slowly so that it coats the throat. Be careful it might cause some gagging. Do this very slowly with small amounts of whiskey. Perhaps the alcohol in whiskey kills the germs. But proceed with caution."

[YEA] 11/03/2008: Mary Ann from Rural, South Africa writes: "Thank you for your miracle site. Being pensioners money is an affliction in itself. What joy to find this site. Well here is my small contribution.
Re-aligning a dropped little tongue. At the onset of a bout of sore throat or flu, the small tongue seems to drop back into the throat, affecting the ability to swollow. and is also very uncomfortable, almost worse than the flu its self. Take a small amount of pepper, preferbly white pepper, on the very tip of a round tipped knife and carefully dab onto the tip of the little tongue. This will pull the tongue back into position.
I tell anyone who will listen about this amazing site."

[YEA] 03/20/2007: Quaker from Easton, MD writes: "A welsh lady told me to try white pepper in hot tea for a sore throat and it works for me. Gargling with warm salt water is also good, as are Fisherman's Friend lozenges which contain capsaicin (red pepper)."

[YEA] 11/01/2009: Kiwi6262 from Cullman, Al writes: "My 5 year old had such a bad sore throat that he was nearly in tears for several hours, so I was desperate. After reading the suggestions and things that have worked for other people, I decided to try out the apple cider vinegar, honey, lemon in warm water. Only problem was, I only had artificial lemon juice, white vinegar, and yellow syrup, but like I said, I was desperate! So! I warmed some water, put in a TBS of artificial lemon juice, a TBS of white vinegar, and 2 TBS of yellow syrup and tasted it to make sure it wasn't horrible (my son is 5 after all, and reasoning with him to drink something awful just because it will make him feel better isn't really an option!) and it tasted fine. I gave it to him and before he had half the cup drank he gave it back to me and said "Good job Mommy! It worked! I'm all better now!" I'd say that's the best testamonial you could get!"

[YEA] 01/25/2006: Clay from Port Huron, Michigan writes: "If you take a small branch of a wild cherry tree, shave the bark off it, and boil the bark into a tea all of the infected cells in your throat will die off and let your immune system do the rest. After a few days your sore throat will go away!"
[YEA] 09/04/2009: London from Sandusky, Ohio replies: "It's true. The native americans used wild cherry bark for illness. I take a tea, and a syrup. You can get the syrup and or tea, at a health food store. It's awesome for colds and flu."

[YEA] 01/30/2008: Marie from Vancouver, BC writes: "I have used zinc lozenges (the type you find in the vitamin section, not the type that looks like a candy) and it cured it about 100% of the times. It nips it in the bud. Whenever I feel that "sore throat" feeling coming on or if I wake up with an already sore throat I suck on one immediately and repeat it as often as the feeling comes back. The key is to abstain from eating/drinking for 40-60 mins after you sucked it. Many people whom I've given it to, came back and asked what this miracle cure was. If I think I have a flu or cold coming, I do the same thing with the same miracle effect. I carry a few tablets with me on a permanent basis. I also would drink zinc tablets in the morning and before bed if I suspect a bug is getting at me to help my immune system. I have used up to 6 tablets over a 24 hour period once, but normally don't need more than 2 - 3 tablets."

[YEA] 08/07/2007: Lucy from Athens, GA writes: "No mention of it anywhere. For shame. I found that cure here and now its no where to be found ACV sounds aweful. But really zinc powder in the back of the throat has relieved the worst cases of sore throat I have ever had consistently."
