I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism which my endocrinologist told me caused a very slow metabolism. I had been on a Vegan diet for two years and ate soy 'everything'. A biochemist told me I needed to change my diet and so I started eating fish. I had been very slim and energetic and was now slow, depressed and over weight.
I discovered this site a few months ago and started taking Apple Cider Vinegar and have noticed that I am losing weight and have lots more energy. My cravings for a sugar fix has stopped. I am also oil pulling and rinse my mouth with diluted H202 after. I look 20 years younger than what I am (though I have always taken care of my skin). The lines I had under my eyes have disappeared and my teeth are whiter.

My sense of well being and confidence is increasing and I am feeling more like I did prior to my diagnosis.

Perhaps get a doctor to check out your thyroid.

A friend just told me about your site and I am eager to correspond with you.

I am in the body of a 55 yr old male. I have been a lacto vegetarian for the past 35 years. No alcohol drugs or smoking, though I did throw myself off by too many late nights of internet addiction. I was told by an ayurvedic doctor in India this year that I have chronic low agni. My metabolism is sluggish and slow. I used to weigh 155 for most of my life but went up to 175 the last 10 yr or more.

I almost always feel sleepy, especially after meals. I probably eat too much or too often. The doctor told me to only eat when I am REALLY hungry and to get to bed by 10 : 30 PM at the latest. I am struggling with disciplining myself on these two issuses. I find I am anxious most of the time, and often eat to pacify anxiety. Ive been through two divorces and two wives took two sons away from me. Ive worked on forgiving for many years.

I want to be of service to others but feel pretty inefficient feeling sluuggish with so much intertia.

I am taking Haritaki and gugul off and on but it is horrible tasting, but apparetnly just what I need.

I try to walk a couple of fast miles every morning to increase my metabolism and it helps in waking me up

Im open to any other suggestions you may have

10/06/2009: Beth from Bayside, Ny replies: "I have used Haritaki Tablets successfully. I have had a sluggish metabolism for the past 3 years. I went to an Ayurvedic doctor that gave me these tablets. he said take 1/2 of one ( 375 mg)before meals. I often forget to take it before meals as I am out most of the day traveling.I often take 1 at night ( the bottle says take 2) and it works well, except when I am premenstrual. I am 40 yr old female, I am very energetic, not overweight, prone to being anxious the past 3 years, athletic and lacto-vegetarian and half raw. I was also told by dr not to stay up late ( I love to) . I think the constipation was contributed to traveling most of the day, no regular bathroom facility, not eating enough fruit regularly, eating out and staying up late and not sleeping enough. One variation to this was I had a very emotionally disturbing time a few months ago and did not need any help with my bowels. For one month in fact my bowels were overactive and I was not eating much food and had a very poor appetite."
