QUESTION

[YEA]  02/01/2007: Teressa from Naples, FL writes: "This past week I did deveope a sinus infection- the constant headache, pain in the nose area, and just couldn't breath, so I couldn't sleep. I had planned to visit the doctor, but found this website first. I have ACV at home, so that nite, a couple days ago, I drank a glass of water with at least one oz. of ACV in it. In 1 hour, my headache was gone and I could breath again, and slept great! I sniffed the ACV the next day and drank more of it, I don't think it taste bad, actually. I am completely cured of a painful sinus infection!!"

[YEA]  01/31/2007: Terri from Duluth, GA writes: "The apple cider vinegar is a miracle cure for sinuses. I came down with a nasty respiratory virus the week before Christmas, 2006 that got into my sinuses, which were already irritated by allergies. After two rounds of antibiotics, loads of over the counter drugs and several weeks of terrible headaches and congested sinuses, I found this site in desperation. I had been suffering for four days from an awful headache that would only go away with 800 mg. Advil. I hate taking anything, but the thought of taking that everyday was really getting to me. I took my first shot of ACV around 4 p.m. My head opened up immediately and by 6 p.m., my headache and all the congestion was completely gone. By the next day, I felt great...better than I had in weeks and I slept better than I had in a long time. I had a small amount of congestion the following day that cleared immediately when I took the ACV. Since then, I've been taking 2 tbsp. with a little baking soda in about 8 oz. of spring water 3x per day. I'm planning to keep going too. I'm hoping to see some of the other benefits people talk about here, but this stuff is nothing short of amazing when it comes to sinus problems. Thank the Lord for this relief. I've been spreading the good news to everyone!"

[NAY]  01/29/2007: Gladys from Las Vegas writes: "When I first tried ACV, it worked very well. It cleared my stuffed nose for the first time in ten years. I've beem using ACV for a while now and I find that the ACV is no longer working on my sinuses. If anything, it upsets my stomache and my nose is still stuffed. So I'm online again looking for something that works"

12/22/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hello Tim from Strawn,

The first thing anyone with sinus problems should do is eliminate all things that might be keeping your sinuses constantly irritated, such as perfumes, smoking, after shave lotions, hair spray, cosmetics, paint fumes, etc. Always beware of anything you can see or smell in the air you breathe is my motto.

That said, now I'll tell you about my 73 year old brother with a longstanding history of sinus problems, who relates a long history of frequent visits to doctors (including the specialists called ENT doctors) with no lasting relief. After listening to his complaints I told him about swabbing my own nose out with hydrogen peroxide (H202) when the congestion or clogging would get so bad and suggested that he might try a 1:1 H202/water solution to spray in his nose to see if it would clear it up and explained that the H202 alone did sting. Well, he one-upped me. A couple of nights ago he called to tell me that he had started spraying the straight H202 up his nose a couple of months ago, that yes it did sting but he could put up with the sting for the good it was doing. The first thing he mentioned was that bleeding from one side of the nose that he had been having (for a year or more) had stopped. The second thing he mentioned was the nasty yellow gook was clearing up. He also said that just minutes after spraying it in his nose he could feel it breaking loose and running down his throat. At this point, I happily told him that it must be improving his hearing as I hadn't had to yell over the phone & keep repeating what I said several times as usual tonight. Another thing that helps to keep the nasal passages open is flushing with normal saline, which is rather pricey when purchased from the pharmacy. However you should be able to find how much NaCl (table salt) to add a pint of boiling water to make your own at home. You should also be able to skip the boiling part if you add it to distilled water.

For those curious enough to do the math, to realize how pricey it is from the pharmaceutical company, go price the small bottle of normal saline nasal spray, making a note of the cc or ounces in the bottle. Go home, grab a pencil & paper (or do it the easy way and grab your calculator) and knowing that 30cc=1 ounce, start multiplying 30cc x 16oz (l pint) x 8 (pints per gallon) will quickly tell you how much it would cost you per gallon. It won't make you any happier the next time you fill up your gas tank, but at least you'll know that you are paying less for the gas than you would for the gallon of normal saline (NS). After all the pharmaceutical doesn't have to pay a high price per barrel of oil and then refine. All they have to invest in is a gallon of distilled (or boil their tap water) water and add a few teaspoonfuls of table salt to it & bottle it up to make a big profit.

They make a little Neti pot especially for flushing your nose, but a small ear syringe or a 3 to 5cc hypodermic syringe purchased from the medicine section of your local farmer's co-op should work just as well, if not better. If it comes with a needle attached, please remove the needle before using it to flush your nose."

[YEA]  12/27/2011: Juju from Atlanta, Ga replies: "I've been suffering from a really bad cold, I have a horrible stuffy nose and I haven't slept for two days. I tried the hot water, honey, cayenne pepper and Apple Cider Vinegar recipe and it seems to work! I took about 3 sips and my nose cleared up! Let's hope it stays unstuffed through the night!"

[YEA]  10/17/2006: Marcia from Jamaica, NY writes: "When I was pregnant I had severe sinus congestion. I could not breathe and suffered for one month with no cure in sight. My doctor refused to reccomend anything, she claimed that it would eventually clear up, I begged her for something and when she finally did and I read the ingredients and side effects and I decided not to take it. Finally I remembered the old ACV and took it with one clove of garlic in warm water. My sinuses cleared. I continued to take it throughout my pregnancy every night and never experienced another cold or sinus infection the whole duration. What is more I was high risk, plus overweight and never experienced complications. ACV is surely for the healing of nations."

I've had one on my head, face and neck for five days! I am so thankful for this website and I encourage anyone with a sinus problem to give this a try. [YEA]  Lynne from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia writes: "I suffered from bad throat and cough, blocked nose especially at night. It was so bad that as if I could not breathe, so I have to get up so often night causing sleeping problems. It was so bad that doctors thought I had asthma. Whenever I eat spicy food, I tend to get choked easily and it was so embarrassing. Sought help from ENTs (Ear Nose & Throat Doctors) but no avail and to extent they recommended surgeries. It was a friend who recommended me and literally forced to drink a mug at her apartment. In fact, it was almost instant remedy on road to recovery. I mix a tablespoon with a mug of water and drink in the morning. After about a month, it sort of cleared the irritants in my throat and I hardly have any bad throat problems, blocked nose problems at night and I hardly cough like I used to have like a monthly occurence. Apple cider really helps on sinuses. No need to go to doctors! Now I can sleep so soundly."

[YEA]  05/15/2009: Put some good ideas together from Toronto, Ontario writes: "Sinus Congestion with Sore Throat:

I've always taken a dash of Cayenne Pepper (I'd say a teaspoon, but it's really as much as you can comfortably handle as an individual) with 2 tablespoons of Lemon Juice and 2 tablespoons of Honey in a mug of boiling water for a sore throat.

Great relief and tastes great too.

After reading other posts and some experimentation I am now changing my recipe to..

1 dash Cayenne Pepper
2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
2 tablespoons Honey
1 Mug boiling water

Same great taste, but better sinus relief as well as sore throat."

This simple remedy really works! My head was stuffed up for a few days and getting worse. Yesterday afternoon I took 1 tablespoon raw ACV in a mug of hot water with a big pinch of cayenne pepper. My nasal passages started to clear even as I was sipping and within an hour my head felt a lot clearer. I did this 3 times altogether, taking the last mug before bed and woke up this morning with a clear head!

I've used this remedy on two occasions now and with almost immediate results. I think it helps if you breathe in the vapours also.

[YEA]  12/15/2006: Tina from Helena, AL writes: "Hi There. I ran across this website the other night as I was searching the internet in search of a natural approach to cure a sore throat that was so advanced that my tonsils were red and looked blistery and I could hardly swallow. It was very painful. I ran across the recommendation for the Cayenne pepper gargle but then saw that if I added ACV to this that I could drink it and it would cure my sinuses also which I have had a problem with for years and had a discharge of muscous every morning that was almost a reddish-brown color and tons of pressure in my head and had been taken Advil cold and sinus for it. I began drinking it yesterday morning and still did the Cayenne pepper and water gargle last night. My throat is already cleared up and I believe my sinuses are beginning but I am not sure what is happening with my sinuses. It seems to me like I am coughing up alot of stuff that has probably been there for while and I noticed that my mucous is now a light yellow color. My nose is also stuffy and I feel like I am literally coughing up stuff out of my chest that I didnt even know was there (lol). I am still drinking this little mixture today and will continue to as I believe that what is happening is that I am healing and that all of this that has been there is beginning to come out and I can tell because although my mucous is not clear yet and is very light yellowish, it is not brown/reddish which says something (lol). Despite all of this (The stuffy nose and coughing up mucous) I seem to feel great with a very high energy level and no pressure in the head causing it to ache. So I will let you know the final result and am very greatful for this remedy and this wonderful website and will be consulting it regularly for my health concerns and my clients"

I read on your site that cayenne helps circulation and that was the primary reason I started adding it to my ACV. Before that I would cook with it and added it to my food everyday as I really like hot food. Well, I was pleasantly surprised with what happen next... The puffiness around my eyes (due to some kind of allergies food or airborne I'm guessing) and face is COMPLETELY gone! No kidding! I have a healthy glow to me now and the puffiness around my eyes that would make me look tired all the time, has vanished. The next thing I noticed is that my sinus' are clear, the dull sinus headache that I lived with for so long is gone and I can breath through my nose at night. As a result I think I'm getting more oxygen to my brain and body now and I definately feel much more clear headed. I had no idea how much congestion was in my sinus' that I had just learned to live with. After ingesting a teaspon a day for about a month, although results came within a couple of days, I look and feel so much better. The only thing I can attribute to the changes to is the cayenne. The idea popped into my head after trying various other remedies with minimum results. I took roughly 5 drops of Oil of Oregano and 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar, and my sinus congestion cleared in about 5 minutes. I now have my taste back!! :) I take my OoO by taking a large sip of water in my mouth, then dropping it in on top. As for the ACV, I take it straight with cold water. It shocked me how quickly and efficiently it worked!

Dosage: 5 drops Oil of Oregano
2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar"

After reading all these reviews on sniffing cayenne for sinus congestion, it may come across as too good to be true; but I tried it and all I can say it WOW!! It really does work ladies and gentlemen. I took about a (half of a rice size) amount of cayenne, placed one amount on my pinky finger (for one nostril) and the second amount on a small spoon (for the other nostril), and simultaneously sniffed each amount. Instantly, I did feel burning and I breathed and recalled a scripture "when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I", and then I could tolerate the 30 secs on burning. I felt a menthol sensation and a throbbing of the blood vessels in my nose (it wasnt scary or anything). Then the mucous began to ran down my nose. I blew my nose and SO much mucous came out! Before the treatment, nothing came out. After blowing my nose, my pressure and clogged ears was instantly relieved! Praise God for cayenne."

I love the chile high, and the nose-clearing goodness of those thai chiles. Eating spicy food on a regular basis is great for the body."

Like Veejay25 said, there is about 30 seconds of fairly intense burning. For me, however, the burning continued for approximately 30 minutes after taking the powder. After the intense first few minutes, it gradually lessened. The pain is nothing that an average person could not tolerate. There was also about 6 to 7 minutes of intense sneezing, watering eyes, and nose blowing. If you plan to try this, make sure you have about 10 or 15 minutes to recover.

My sinuses cleared slightly, though not completely. I should stress that I did not have a severe sinus condition, so better results could probably be achieved during treatment of a worse condition.

One question to consider is the potential for cayenne to damage the nasal cavity if used chronically. Of course we should all realize it would never be recommended to use many (not all) of the remedies on this site for extended periods due to the lack of scientific research on long term side effects."
