HOW TO PREVENT SCHIZOPHRENIC ATTACK
08/24/2011: Anonymous from Anonymous writes: "Hello Ted once again. I had written to you about my son's sudden schizophrenic episode. I have gotten him off resperidone. he is off all meds. I now give him niacinamide B3 4 grams a day. May i give him higher dosage at each, taking 1 gram to simplify?
I give him 4 grams of vit c. I did the lysine protocol of 3 days, 2 days every 50 minutes, and twice a day for rest of month. I give him a teaspoon of taurine once a day 5 times a day of 500 mg l tyrosine gaba everyday. I just ordered tyrosine. and waiting for that delivery. Fish oil 1200 mg once a week. I give him magnesium sometimes. I give him milk thistle sometimes. I give him thumbergia laurifolia homeopathic drops sometimes (blue trumpet vine). I give him desiccated liver sometimes. he is NOT using street drugs.
He is better but still sleeps many hours some nights. He is starting to socialize, talk and play more. He started to ride his bike. And some nights he has slept a lot less since off medicine. BUT this past few days also. He is starting to have nightmares. He had a bad one last night and is sleeping a lot today. 15 hours and has not gotten up yet.
I realize now my son has always had as a little child nightmares. Not very often but far in between. yet this nightmares always have been screaming with his eyes open. he never remembered anything in the morning. I now believe this is associated with what has unleashed in his brain.
I am concerned about the nightmares this week being more often. And want to avoid going back to resperidone. Does this nightmare mean he will have another psychotic episode soon? I gave him b-6 100 mg and read that could make nightmares worse. But also says it is good to give to schizophrenia patients that usually lack this vitamin. I will not give him b6. only administered one time.
Am I missing any vitamin or mineral that will help with the nightmares and avoid a psychotic episode. what else can i do. Something is missing in this road to recovery.
Ted thank you once again. I do not want to bother as we all know how busy you are with people and your health."
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "He is starting to have nightmares. He had a bad one last night and is sleeping a lot today. 15 hours and has not gotten up yet.The nightmares may be due to magnesium and B6 deficiency, or he is taking tyrosine. So tyrosine maybe a problem in some people. You just have to test individual chemistry. Threonine is missing in his diet as is N Acetyl Cysteine. These conditions may be a virus condition that's causing the nightmares. Threonine is added to lysine, but about 1/2 as much at least and N Acetyl Cysteine is needed as anti viral and glutathione, to reduce the nightmares.
The sleepiness is due to B3, given during the day, it can be given at night ok since lysine is given. The B3 can be reduce to night only. Part of the problem is excess sleeping may be giving him nightmares.
Ted"
08/25/2011: Anonymous replies: "Thank you Ted for your response. Yes I give him tyrosine because our last mail was about avoiding another psychotic attack and 500 mg should be taken 5 times a day to control temper. He is short tempered and gets frustrated easily. And he has not been able to get up early and concentrate on school. He almost has lost his school year. My biggest fear since he is off the medicine (risperidone) is not so much the nightmares, but avoiding another schizophrenic episode. I was concerned because I thought maybe the nightmares have something to do with another episode approaching from not giving him resperidone any longer. Basically I am asking if he is needing anything else to mostly avoid the schizophrenia to repeat. My worse daily fear is a repeat of that horrible episode and the damage his psychiatrist says it will do to his brain. he insist he will have another attack because i refuse to medicate. You say the b3 to be given at night. but he has to take 6 grams, in 500 dosages with vit c. I start with that early morning thru out the day. should i give him the 6 grams ALL at night?? It is 12 pills.
How MUCH n acetyl cysteine must he take, HOW much glutathione? and HOW Much THEONINE?? will this supplements help avoid schizophrenic episodes aside from helping wIth nightmares? I started the baking soda today after meals... should I add anything else??? Thank YOU TED"
08/26/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "The B3 is what prevented the schizophrenic attack. There are two possible schedules:
1. B3 is taken 250 mg in morning, especially lunch, dinner, and evening.
2. B3 is taken before sleep 500 mg all at once. This depends on him being too sleepy or not. If too sleepy is second schedule. To control temper, it is B3 500 mg. B2, folic acid, B6 also helped, 50 mg B6 and B2 too. Folic acid is about 5 mg, but is not really necessary unless B3 works, but for people with this condition it always works but maybe some fine tuning. The cause of your condition is a virus, in the brain and they are known to do that.
The Gingko biloba extract also works best against this. I have recently found that Quercetin is a cheaper alternative to CoQ10, it also works too, as CoQ10 is expensive and it must be 400 mg. And it sometimes works, but in medical settings. I believe Ubiquinol is more therapeutic, but I find just giving him hourly dose of lysine, threonine, N acetyl cysteine at least hourly for four hours, for at least 3 days is more than sufficient, followed by maintenance dose of two times a day afterwards was sufficient, to prevent future schizophrenic attacks. The cause is viral I found, and it depletes the body of N acetyl cysteine, B3 and some selenium also. But what killed the virus causing schizophrenia is the lysine.
But the best against schizophrenic attack is B3 500 mg, fish oil 1000 mg, quercetin 500 mg x 2, maybe evening primrose oil, selenium yeast 200 mcg x 2, and N Acetyl Cysteine. The lysine will keep the viral count down, and threonine will keep the immune systems up. An update is lecithin also helps restore normal brain biochemical in myelin sheath to prevent future problems. Heavy metals of any kind also caused this, and he needs to stay away from. Your condition is mostly bipolar disorder, of manic aggressive kind, bought about by a opportunistic virus, when immune systems are down, usually from drug use, especially smoking marijuana, and some other substance. That's my experience, and it is (for me) one of the easier cases to treat.
As to your questions of alkalizing, I seem to find these people need more vitamin C say 1000 mg, in acid form of ascorbic acid, but some do respond to more alkaline form. The best overall forms of vitamin C if you don't want to experiment (it requires only 1 tablet and check his response within an hour or two) is sodium ascorbate and ascorbic acid, mixture. Once his antioxidants are up, which includes selenium yeast, N acetyl cysteine, vitamin C, then he should not have further attack. But there is some, who is low on zinc. I prefer acetate form, and is taken 25 mg, to prevent colds to help schizophrenia also, the other one is manganese sulfate, in rare instances. these two are responsible for superoxide dismutase, Zn SOD, and Mn SOD, that help the antioxidant levels in the brain because they get depleted by virus very quickly. But that's my opinion just from observation.
HOW much glutathione?
You need precursors of glutathione. N Acetyl Cysteine is 500 mg x 2 times a day. Glutathione if you want to try is 500 mg, but I prefer N acetyl cysteine as it more effective.
and HOW Much THEONINE??
1000 mg is fine.
will these supplements help avoid Schizophrenic episodes asides from helping wIth nightmares?
Yes. I suspect you did not give him lysine enough in the evening and it helps if N acetyl Cysteine is given to help say 250 mg would be fine.
I started the baking soda today after meals... should I add anything else???
Yes, you need vitamin C, fish oil, selenium at least 200 mcg a day, also helps.
Ted"

CLOZARIL MAKING SCHIZOPHRENIA WORSE
03/05/2010: Dj from Pdx, Or writes: "Schizophrenia and Clorazil
Ted, (Or anyone with info)
My friend's daughter is a diagnosed schizophrenic. Unfortunately they did not have insurance so she is under state care.
The doctors have been putting her on Clorizal(sp). Her mom is convinced that she is more paranoid now. She rarely will leave the group home she is in and when she does she is always terrified eventually. The staff says she is getting better.
Has anyone had this same experience with the symptoms getting worse.
Ted, do you have any idea how to counter act these anti psychotic drugs?
Thanks"
03/22/2010: Diana from Grand Junction, Co replies: "I found this while searching the internet
Natural Schizophrenia Treatment
Studies have found the schizophrenia is often caused by brain nutrition deficiencies. A lack of Vitamin C, manganese, folic acid, zinc, B6, B12 and especially niacin can all contribute to brain deficiencies that result in schizophrenia.
I would also check out magnesium chloride too. Getting the electrolytes balanced is vital for correct electrical firing ans relaxation."

TED'S REMEDIES FOR MOTHER WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA?
11/18/2009: Anonymous writes: "Ted, if you have time, my mother suffers bipolar/schizophrenia and they put her on on Pemela (whatevr the antidepressant/psychotic is) and Seroquel to sleep (as well as Klonopin). She also take meds for high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. If she tries stop she seems get aggressive and hallucinate (devil tell her do bad things). She's always had psychotic temper but only recently in mid-60s start hallucinate/hear devil.
Anyways, seems hopeless, cause once they got you on these drugs for years is hard to get off. Since she has such violent temper in past, it is hard wean her off and be able deal with her (she hides lots weapons around house like a shotgun and ice picks and long knives, honestly I am scared live with her because of the abuse i endured as child). It's just I feel bad she stuck on all these meds that taking her hair away and who knows what else."
01/17/2010: Gerty from Ny, Ny replies: "Hi Ted, what if the hallucinations are from a late-onset (older woman) bipolar psychosis? Anyway to stop the voices, B3 still good? She stay indoor and up all night. She don't want to take her meds either. She thinks she's talking to Jesus and other higher energies but they give her inaccurate info, now she becoming secretive and kind of very nasty. Thanks for any help. Tried to send you paypal but it says you can't accept, it that temporary or is there other way send to donate for your time and effort? Thank you"
11/18/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "I have cases of people who see ghost with enough details to tell me where their corpse are regarding their deaths. They will also take possession, regardless of where you travel. However, there is a cure and it's really simple, regarding spirit/ghost possession that I have recently cured. The cure is just to make them healthy. Once the health has returned, especially those who are neurologically imbalanced, it goes away within the day. The case I cured is rather straight forward, A form of hepatitis B somehow entered their brain, causing them to have certain ESP, in seeing ghosts who can give correct information, future, etc. It's the same with Greek Oracles. In any event, I have a reported person who has similar problems that was recently cured, a month ago, the supplements was long and detailed and is beyond the time I can spend on this email. However, the key is to identify the cause of the condition. The person who can communicated had hepatitis B entering his brain (been infected for half of his life now), is cured, last I heard was about all gone. The supplements to deal with that was zinc, lysine and aspirin, where the latter two required fifty minute doses for 4 doses for two days. As to the other woman with extreme depression the cure was methylene blue, drops of HCl in a glass of water during meals (it's concentrated 35% HCl 3 drops in a glass of water), clove oil used as massage oil only for feet area and the hands (as it's antiviral against epstein barr), and lysine. In the instance of devil/ghost/spirit it goes away once the person's is healthy enough that it can't be bothered by possessions, which often occurs during peak time about 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. The attack starts from 12 midnight to 6 a.m.A schizophrenia is helped most especially very violent attacks is B3 500 mg three times a day. A vitamin B50 is taken daily. This will be the major remedy regarding psychological issues. Amino acid supplements is about 2000 mg a day. The B3, Amino acid, and B50 in that order are the most important remedies regarding violent outbursts caused by a neurological imbalance. It takes about 30 minutes after taking the supplements to calm down."

HAS ANY TRIED A GLUTEN-FREE DIET FOR SCHIZOPHRENIA?
07/07/2006: John from Holiday, FL writes: "I was curious as to whether anyone diagnosed with schizophrenia ever tried this diet and what were the results?"
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Jonathan: Yes there is hope that schizophrenia can be cured and it is not exactly have to do with gluten free diet, although a gluten free diet could help. The problem of this condition I have heard people living normal lives by just simply taking certain vitamins, due to impaired biochemical problems involved with either digestion (intestinal problems) or deficiency in brain biochemical issues. If we know, the solution is standing right in front of our noses all the time. But as you know most research are privately funded and it is not in their best interest anyway. But before discussing a simple cure, I must explain that there is a remarkably simple cure for people committing suicide, assuming he or she is not on pharmaceutical drugs, which today is often the problem anyway. While I was a student in the U.S., I got a chance to observe that nearly all (actually it was 100% from my own observations) of suicides had extremely low cholesterol.
Remember there is BOTH bad cholesterol and good cholesterol. They were lacking in good cholesterol. When people get suicide like behavior give him raw or partially raw eggs where the yolk is still liquid, it is high in HDL - the good cholesterol.
An ideal dietary prevention is about 6 eggs should be enough to note what they referred to as "clinical improvements" of course these coroners is not going to published these interesting findings, unless they are "sponsored" by certain interests group. So I am giving you this little unpublished information.
The other interesting thing is aromatherapy, in particular, narcissus oil which when applied clothes or sprayed as aerosol, causes nearly instant stop in depression of suicidal behavior. One incident many moons ago, a police told me of a woman who wanted to kill herself and is not ready to negotiate. So what we did was simply fumigate the area with narcissus oils and within 15-30 minutes, she was ready to stop considering that thought. It would be nice to give her a narcissus air freshener, but you know, they are quite suspicious of you anyway!
Suicidal behavior can also be reduced almost really within minutes upon giving only 2- 3 grams of niacinamide B3, for some reason it acts like a natural valium but works remarkably better. In fact I suspect the valium was in fact a modified form of B3 to get a patent and therefore a natural form would have worked a lot better. But as with powers of marketing, people opt for valium!
Another remarkably simple cure was whey protein or soybean protein powder. I will not tell who, but 20 years ago there was a car accident, this person was seriously considering suicide behavior. At the time I knew that soybean proteins were a good source for depression, so I gave that person, on the excuse that this was a "pain killer" for the car accident. He won't take it is you tell them it will reduce his suicidal behavior, so you must give medical excuse instead! Within about 35 minutes (yes I timed him), he was happy and the suicide thoughts just evaporated like it didn't happen!
O.K. now the possible treatment for schizophrenia AND paranoia thoughts. It has been known for many decades at least which as similar as suicides, is that vitamin B3, niacinamide is extremely helpful. But to prevent other Bs from being deficient you need to take vitamin B complex. It must be remembered that B12 injections is essential. Without this, absorption of all the other vitamin Bs is impaired.
I will not go into details here, but I will just cut and paste an article years back concerning large dose of B3 niacinamide. My preferred dose is somewhat lower than other people, being between 1- 3 grams in general for treatment, but frequency is what I aimed for rather than the amount per se.
It must be noted that gluten free and dairy free diet is indeed important. Taking certain minerals, in particular magnesium, is very important for treatment of schizophrenia. My preferred dose is 250 mg/day, in form of magnesium chloride. Ted"
Excerpted from "Emerging From a Schizophrenic Haze" by Jack Challem and Renate Lewin Reprinted from Let's Live- November, 1988
Dawne Hartvig remembers what it was like to be schizophrenic.
The 30-year-old woman, sitting in her home in rural western Canada, is an intelligent, curious, gracious, and well-adjusted person. But throughout her teen-age years and until four years ago, she was schizophrenic. Dawne suffered from frequent hallucinations and delusions. At times she would hear words no one had spoken, and see her face distorted in the mirror. She would suspect people had laced her coffee with poison, and that toxic gases were being pumped into her apartment. Dawne was convinced people were following her around to harm her. At age 22, after 10 years of psychological problems (which she didn't clearly recognize as problems), Dawne was diagnosed schizophrenic. Schizophrenia, a mental illness that affects about one percent of the population, is commonly - and incorrectly - believed to involve multiple personalities. The disease is actually a disintegration of personality and a breakdown in thinking processes, as if a short-circuit in the mind were jumbling incoming signals.
Most psychiatrists believe schizophrenia is caused by a biochemical disorder in the body, though they disagree about exactly how the malfunction occurs. Dawne is well today because she was able to correct those biochemical disorders. She boosted her intake of the vitamins and minerals that play key roles in mental functioning, and avoided food allergens that altered her brain chemistry. Her memories of schizophrenia are still fresh: He personal isolation, the patronizing attitudes of people around her, and the lack of attention and care by most doctors.
Dawne considers herself lucky, but she wonders how may other schizophrenics or families of schizophrenics will be equally lucky. "Finding the right help when you're sick is almost impossible," she says. "Schizophrenics are often drugged and don't realize they're not okay. Few people out there - doctors included - really seem to understand the disease." Dawne attributes the origin of her schizophrenia to food allergies she had as a child. In those days, there was little information available on how food allergies affect behavior.
Looking back, Dawne is convinced that her food allergies interfered with normal metabolism and nutrient absorption - and eventually played havoc with her brain chemistry. ''Severe deficiencies of certain key elements, such as calcium, zinc, and magnesium, along with the allergies, transformed normal stresses into tremendous obstacles for me," she says. By the time Dawne turned 14, her social skills were deteriorating. She was having difficulty making and keeping friends. At night, after Dawne went to sleep, she began hallucinating and having seizures that left her temporarily paralyzed. When she was in her early 20s, she says, "Going to bed every night was like a nightmare. I never knew what would happen. My dreams were vivid - almost like science-fiction dreams." She began having delusions of being followed by spy satellites. "I had this tremendous fear of being mentally and physically violated. Every night I had one or two terrible seizures." Dawne often heard high-pitched noises, noises she thought were loud enough to burst her eardrums. Sometimes she felt her body levitate and believed she saw ghosts or devils or angels. Dawne was nervous and high strung, excitable, and unable to concentrate. She lost most of her friends and acquaintances. A doctor finally diagnosed her as schizophrenic. Dawne's reaction? She felt offended. "The doctor didn't explain what schizophrenia was," she recalls. "He just said that was what I had. I thought it was ridiculous. "Looking back, I wish he had explained schizophrenia a little more. He could have told me about auditory and visual perceptual disturbances. If he had done that, I might have been better able to deal with my illness." Dawne's schizophrenia soon worsened; she began to feel the doctor was part of a conspiracy against her. "One of the problems with schizophrenia is that no one tells you about the disease," she says. "You're left in total mystery all the time, and you don't fully realize you are ill." Friends and family became reluctant to discuss her illness with her. "People think that a sick person is stupid," she says. I was schizophrenic, but I could still understand down-to-earth talk. Under the circumstances, not thinking clearly, it's easy to believe that family members are keeping something from you, and you feel patronized and left out. That can make the paranoia worse. Dawne's state of mind, her mood, and her perception often rocketed up and down. For all of her "down" days, she had "up" days. In the manic phase of the illness, Dawne felt ravishingly beautiful and invulnerable. But to other people, Dawne later learned, she looked disheveled, often wearing mismatched socks and unbuttoned clothing. Looking back, she describes her body as being numb and detached during these schizophrenic "highs." Dawne visited several doctors, and each diagnosed her as schizophrenic. But to her it was a meaningless label, and none of the doctors bothered to explain schizophrenia to her - not even during a three-week stay at a psychiatric hospital. "If I had been told, I would have been so relieved," she says. One day in the library, a book titled How to Live with Schizophrenia caught her eye. It was written by Dr. Abram Hoffer, a psychiatrist from Victoria, British Columbia, who pioneered the use of vitamins in treating the disordered brain chemistry found in schizophrenics. After reading the book, she felt that a doctor understood her illness for the first time. The causes, symptoms, and general treatment were explained in detail and in language she could understand.
Upon Dr. Hoffer's recommendation, based on his successful treatment of thousands of similar patients, Dawne began taking three grams of niacin (vitamin B-3) each day. After four days, she felt more "grounded" as if she were coming back down to earth. She was suddenly calmer and had fewer nightmares and seizures. But Dawne was far from cured. Her thinking was not sharp and she still became easily confused and fatigued. She went to an orthomolecular physician who treated biochemical disorders with vitamins and minerals. The doctor tested Dawne for copper, an essential metallic element that can adversely affect the brain in high doses.
He found her copper levels to be extremely high. At the doctor's recommendation, Dawne began taking vitamin B-6 and zinc to help flush out the excess copper. Two weeks later, Dawne was feeling like a "brand new person." But she often felt tired, suffered mild bouts of depression, and continued to hear voices inside her head. She consulted another orthomolecular physician, who suggested she might have food allergies that were affecting her thinking and behavior. When Dawne began to pay attention to what she ate, the effort paid off. She discovered that she would become slightly paranoid and have mild hallucinations after eating dairy products. High-gluten grains, such as wheat, rye, and oats, caused similar problems. She now avoids these foods.
She learned she suffered from a vitamin B-12 deficiency and from bouts of hypoglycemia. Both affected her mood and perceptions. Not every schizophrenic has the same symptoms or nutritional deficiencies that Dawne had. Although Dawne is completely recovered, she must follow a strict diet and take supplemental vitamins and minerals. She reads a lot about nutrition and health. "Some of these things you just don't fool around with," she cautions. "Vitamins, chelation therapy for toxic metals, allergies, and other parts of the puzzle may seem simple, but more and more research has shown how dangerous improper treatment can be. "I don't want anyone to get hurt or give up early because they didn't do their homework. You really have to know what you're doing. Find a good doctor - although that's often easier said than done - particularly if you're looking at the world through a schizophrenic haze. "And read - study a lot"
