<description>[YEA] Karen from Rothschild, Wi writes: "I have been diagnosed with rosacea for over 10 years. Dermatologists have given me Metrogel (no help) and sulfa based creams (very drying and made my skin peel). After trying many things, I tried the Apple Cider Vinegar; both drinking it three times per day (2 Tbsp ACV, 1 tsp raw honey, 6oz water-150 degrees) and topically. For the topical mixture, I use 2 parts distilled water to one part raw, organic ACV. I put this in a small spray bottle and spritz it all over my face after washing with an aloe based cleanser twice daily. I leave the mixture on to dry, and then moisturize with a small amount of organic coconut oil.

I've used this regimen for 3-4 months and have no traces of rosaeca. I have combination skin, which is hyper sensitive and I'm allergic to many substances. This regime has worked better than anything else I've tried. My skin looks fantastic; poreless, soft, smooth and no redness or bumps.

Coconut oil is a fantastic moisturizer and has many antinflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It is so soothing to the skin and helps with the redness. I'm 53 years old and do not have a wrinkle on my face. I firmly believe the ACV must be used topically and taken internally to help with the rosacea. If the ACV burns your skin, try diluting it with more water. I first tried a 50/50 mixture and it stung my face a bit, so I went to a 2:1 ratio which is so mild I don't even rinse it off.

I also sufferred from dermatitis on my scalp. Flaky, itchy scalp that actually hurt. After washing my hair with an organic shampoo, I use the same ACV solution on my scalp that I use on my face. Just spritz it on my scalp at the roots and leave it in. the vinegar smell fades in a few minutes and it relieved the itching immediately!!

This site is a Godsend! Thanks so much for all the wonderful advice!

After reading about Apple Cider Vinegar I have been drinking it in water regularly every day for 7 days and wash my face with a acv/tea tree oil mix and the results are hideous! My pustules are the worst they have ever been! Some are infected (first time!! ) I just don't know where to go from here. I'l love some advice or suggestions. Thank you!!

<description> Julie from Bellflower, California Usa writes: "I am not sure if I have rosacea because I haven't gone to a dermatologist to find out. I do seem to have red spots on my cheeks, mostly on the right one. It is very mild, if I wear makeup you really can't see it but when I'm not it is visible and during the hot weather it seems to be more red and during winter it gets really dry and somewhat flaky. I noticed that I started getting this when I started taking birth control pills. I know they say that the change in hormones can create this but I was wondering if any of the described remedies above will help my situation. I would love to get some feedback. Thanks!

<description> Hayley from London, Uk writes: "Hi, I wanted to share with you some products which I have come across which are simply fantastic in reducing rosacea.

I have always suffered from red cheeks and flushing plus the broken capillaries, but in the last few years have been troubled in the Winter by these annoying little spots on my nose and sides of my nose. They are tiny (size of a dot - with a little white centre) They were really bothering me and no matter what I tried on my face more seemed to pop up all the time.

From what I have been reading and researching it seemed to me to be classic rosacea caused by the Demodex mite. Also in the last few weeks my spots had been accompanied by an itching feeling on my nose and sometimes on my scalp too.

So- I tried the following and the results are AMAZING. My spots are gone and my red blotchiness on the sides of my nose and cheek area has faded and looks really nice now.

This is what I did...

I bought some shampoo meant to be for Dandruff called Oilatum Scalp intensive. I put this on my face for 1 minute neat then washed it off. I did this every night for 3 nights. The itching on my face stopped and the spots were reduced but not totally gone- my face was a bit red still.

I followed up with (and am using religiously every day now) acne/ rosacea products. I began washing my face with their Calmin mild cleanser, followed by their EPC cream with spf 15 very morning. At night I use the nightcream with Seabuckthorn oil.

I literally could see my face becoming clearer and the redness fading the minute I put these on my face- they are wonderful!! I also tried these on my Dad who suffers from the red nose/spottiness and the results were just great.

I hope this is of help to anyone who like me suffers from this annoying and upsetting skin problem.

<description>[YEA] Stephanie from Somewhere, Texas writes: "I have been using the topical solution (3% H202 saturated with 20 Mule Team Borax) for a few weeks putting it on my face after cleansing and leaving on a few minutes before rinsing. I could not believe the junk that came out of my pores. I also plucked a hair out of my face and looked at it under a microscope. I could see the mites feasting on the oils at the base of my hair (yuck! ). My facial redness has been reduced by about 50%. Prepare for things to get worse before they get better with this remedy if you are allergic or sensitive to the mites and their waste. I perservered and my face is getting better and better. Use a little hydrocortisone if you have an allergic reaction to the mite funk. I think it may take a few months for my face to heal. I also have been trying to eat a ton of fruits and vegetables and an all around anti-inflammatory diet but Ted's cure has helped so much. Thanks Ted. I will post an update in a few months.

<description> Sharon from Silfiac, France writes: "Hi, I was first diagnosed with rosacea 10 yrs ago when I stopped taking the TRINORDIOL contraceptive pill. I fell pregnant and after a few months the rosacea dissappeard. After I finished breast feeding I went back on the pill. 2 yrs later I stopped the pill again to have another baby and the rosacea came back. After a year or so I started the pill again and had no problems with the rosacea. Two yrs ago I decided to stop the pill to give my body a rest and low and behold the rosacea came back. I then decided to continue taking the pill purely to keep the rosacea at bay. I am now 40 and have been told that I have to stop the pill forever now and yet again it's come back!

Is there anyone who can tell me why the pill seems to play a big part in connection to the rosacea and more than anything else, what can I do now as do not really want to take antibiotics for the rest of my life.

Many thanks, Sharon

<description> Patti from Toledo, Ohio/usa writes: "I've been diagnosed with rosacea. I have a mild case as it isn't noticable except when I wash my face at bedtime and use hot water. There is a patch on each cheek, on either side of my nose, and a band across my forehead. It doesn't flake, itch nor do I have pustules. A regimine that is working for me is, washing my face with a diluted solution of Miracle II green soap (not the moisturizing type), rinse with cool water and pat dry. Then I apply a thin coat of PAV ointment. This product was recommended to me by a medical doctor. The package says it contains tree-resin, petrolatum and olive oil. It is good for infections, burns, fungus, diaper rash, acne &amp; rough hands.

My daughter, who is a surgical intensive care nurse, says that it is one of the best products she has used for the very dry skin on her hands that occurs from her frequent hand washing at the hospital.

<description> Angela from Memphis, Tn writes: "I just turned 40 this year, have been diagnosed with rosacea for about 15 yrs now and for the most part it has been uneventful until this summer. I saw a nurse skin specialist (plastic surgeon office) and she advised using metrogel again more often (a few times a week at night) to control the summer oilyness. I also routinely saw my dermatologist who started me on a new cleanser (since the ZNP bars were no longer available- which I've used forever) and a new oral Rx called Oracea, which I believe is just a type of antiobiotic (doxycycline). The new cleanser was a generic Rx of sodium sulfacetamide 9% and sulfur 4% wash. We also went to the beach about the same time I started these new things. Since then, my skin has been on and off irritated- not consistently smooth as before.

This past weekend was the worst, so I stopped using the Rx wash and quit using the Oracea just to go back to square one. Before all of this started, I was using (successfully) Vitamin C cream at night and Retin-A twice a week to help with the wrinkles and age spots but I decided to quit using that for now as well until everything gets worked out.

At this point, I'm trying to figure out what is the culprit exactly- the new Rx's (even though they are supposed to be helping) or do I have a mite as well? internal or external? After reading the other posts, I am wondering if I need to try some Apple Cider Vinegar and Dandruff shampoo as well, but I don't want to irritate things worse-

Please help! -:)

<description>[YEA] Kathy from Wellington, Ohio writes: "After searching the Internet for the cause of my adult acne (should be "senior acne" as I'm 64! ), I stumbled upon the demodex mite theory. Realizing that while my acne didn't fit the criteria exactly, but realizing that the hair follicle issues I was having along my hairline at my temples fit - I thought, what do I have to lose? Mixing up 20 Mule Team Borax (really??) with HP and distilled water, I wondered if I was going to end up with facial burns!

I've been diagnosed with mild rosacea &amp; poklioderma of my neck. The rosacea didn't fit the exact criteria - though I do have enlarged pores and a lot of comeodones and accidentally using any antibacterial soap on my neck proved excruciating, ending up in inflamed poklioderma (next search - do demodex mites cause poklioderma?). Anyway, after one night of use- Incredible improvement! Pimples along hair follicles are GONE - pores are smaller - less sebum (a major issue with me, which I've tried vitamin B5 at extremely high doses along with an Rx for aldactone, etc. - no results) - and skin just majorally improved! I used it again tonight before going to bed and plan to continue to do so. I'll update, but right now, I'm high on this miracle (for me, at least! ). I used 5 T. of 20 Mule Team Borax (that's right, from the laundry detergent aisle!), 1/4 c. Distilled water and a little less than 1/4 c. of 3% hydrogen peroxide. The borax would not dissolve so I'm sure I made too big a batch, but I used my Ninja blender and got it down to a good consistency - still grainy, but not too bad. I wrapped an old beach towel around my bed pillow to protect it and that worked well.

Hope this isn't too long a post, but I am thinking miracle here and wondering why more attention isn't being paid to demodex mites. I was seriously considering having the hair along my temples removed electronically (sp?) just to eliminate the small yet painful pimples I kept getting. It took me a long time to make the connection, but I am very hopeful at this very early stage of the game.

<description> Carol from Brighton, Uk writes: "I've just had a thought, but I wanted to seek the advice of someone more knowledgeable than myself.

Instead of taking borax orally I was wondering if borax as a homeopathic remedy would do the same job I.E. Kill the demodex mite that causes rosacea. Also I notice somebody had mentioned on this site that they were taking sulfur as well as the borax and were seeing results with their rosacea. Sulfur is also available as a homeopathic remedy.

I don't know if anybody has tried these homeopathic remedies but I would be very interested to hear people's views. Thank you.

I have rosacea and stopped taking all antibiotics almost a year ago. Instead I wash my face with BICARB SODA and Sebiprox shampoo and my rosacea is almost gone! My skin looks so much better and healthier! I wash my face with sebiprox 2-3 times a week just before I go to bed. The rest of the week I wash it with bicarb soda (mix with a drop of water) also before I go to sleep. I don't use any other products. <description> Sarah from Brighton, Uk writes: "I have been trying a number of remedies for this horrible skin complaint, e.g. ACV (both drinking and rubbing on face), coconut oil (both eating and rubbing on face), tea tree oil. Nothing seems to have any effect.

My main problem is the very deep redness all over my face. My skin is smooth, no problem with pimples, spots etc. I have had this problem now for approx 20 years. I thought the redness which appeared very gradually over the years was, in fact, a healthy look, like someone who spends a lot of time outside, like a farmer. How misguided can you be?

A few nights ago, whilst researching this condition online I learned about the demodex mite. That same night I felt these mites crawling over my face. I don't know if it is psychological after reading of other people's experiences or if these mites really are there.

Ted seems to suggest borax and peroxide. The problem is you can't buy it in the shops in England. I've seen it online but am very wary as I don't know what additives may have been used. Can anyone in UK please let me know where they obtained it from and if they had any success with it, please?

Any other suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks

<description> Princewith2spleensit Is Great That A Variety Of Pe from Sheffield, England writes: "It is great that a variety of people from varying cultures have come together to share their insights on this sensitive subject area. Rosacea is a terrible condition and I for one am greatfull to earthlink, for providing us with this unique platform. I have benefited a great deal from all of you! Thank you all.

One common denominator that all rosacian's suffer from is, 'stress' myself included. Rosacea is a progressive condition and it feeds of our negativity, anxiety etc. I would suggest to anyone suffering from Rosacea to attempt to remove yourself from the cause of your frustration be that a circumstance, situation or person. I meditate and would recommend it in combination with your own health regimen.

Beware of the Sun.

Sun Sense daily face suncream (SPF 50 ) is the best sunblock I have used. When outdoors (during daylight hours) I religiously apply sunblock. When the sun is bright I wear protective eyewear and a broad brimmed hat. When my skin is partcularly sensitive I use an umberella that has a protective lining against harmful ultra violet radiation these things are commonly available online these days. I am also starting to wear specialist clothing which I also acquired on the web. My rosacea is aggrevated enormously by sunlight and I tend to have to perform my daily exercise during the night. Exercise and stretching is important, so don't let yourself go!

It is also important that we act resposibly when taking topical drugs. Antibiotics do come with side effects, many of which, front line doctors know little about. My GP prescribed me 'oxytetracycline', which I believe is commonly prescribed to individuals with Rosacea in the UK. Unfortunately, soon after taking the drug I developed an allergic reaction which has left my entire body sun-sensitive. Sun-sensitivity is a systemic problem and I am writing a cautionary tale as I do not wish offers to suffer the same plight.

We need to get educated and understand the limits of our 'new' bodies, to deter even more severe problems like skin cancer from surfacing. We need to eat appropriately, avoid smoking and drinking and protect the young, share our insights and remain vigilant.

As many have you have already learned, it is important to remain positive, as every new dawn offers fresh hope. Good luck to all of you and keep writing. Things will improve.

Neil

I have been diagnosed with Rosacea Acne for a couple of years - I am 46 never had great skin but never as bad as this! I have been using Metrogel for a year or two but recently tried Elderberry tablets and fish oils which seem to be helping although having constant but minor breakouts.

However, I have just been learning to Scuba dive in Tenerife (4 days) and have erupted in lumps and bumps and white head spots all over my neck shoulders and face!

Could this be down to the sun, sun creams, saltwater and or pressure (diving max 18 metres) or a combination of all? I have never had this so bad. Used the metrogel everyday as usual.

As I suffer from occasional coldsores (am under a lot of stress at present) and have been advised to try ACV to lower my acid levels I am interested in the posts that suggest use for this kind of acne too and will try it asap!

Many thanks for any advise or info..

<description> Joellelee from Landisville, Pa, Usa writes: "Hi everyone!

I have so many questions and concerns regarding hydrogen peroxide for rosacea. I have moderately bad pasule rosacea with redness.. Only thing that gets rid of it for awhile is antibiotics... I am considering going back to a low dose of antibiotics along with using Floresta (sp?) probiotic which works well with the antibiotic... therefore not hurting my gut flora.

I was doing the borax/peroxide mix until I realized I misunderstood... I was using pharmacy 3% and not the food grade! Hope I didn't do any longterm harm! So, I decided to try and get food grade (35%) until I have read many researchers saying that it is not good to take food grade peroxide throughout the day... Should be taken on an empty stomach and NOT to be mixed with any iron and especially not to be mixed with vitamin C!!! This can make it very much full of dangerous free radicals! I know that Ted from Bangkok on here recommends taking the peroxide/borax mix throughout the day! I have read it's very helpful to put a cup of food grade peroxide in a warm bath and let your body absorb it instead of the stomach where it can cause serious damage! Any thought or concerns?

Also, when anyone applies the peroxide/borax on the face... Do you use the food grade?

Im not sure if I actualy have rosacea but I my face was always red and would glow sometimes, say after eating , drinking a beer or god forbid I got hot. I done a lot of reading. The first thing I discovered is that diet is huge in this fight. I took out a wide range of foods, anything hot like chillies etc or anything fermented like cheese or vinegar.

My supplements consisted of neem and sarsaparilla and a good bacteria. These things cleansed the blood, cleared heat and inflammation and the good bacteria helped well with lots of things. Anyway 2 months in and iv lost weight(that was a side bonus) and my skin is still a little red but I havnt burned bright red like I used to and I even toned down my make up. <description>[YEA] Tm from Brisbane, Australia writes: "Hi all, firstly thanks for all your fantastic posts and advice. I just wanted to relay my experience with treating Rosacea with Borax and Ciclopirox Olamine. I had been told several times over the years that I had Rosacea, but it was never really that bad, so I did nothing about it. The reason I started taking Borax was to treat my hair loss. My hair was falling out in fist fulls all day long. So I started on the internal 1/8th tsp in 1 litre of water 4 days on/3 days off and the external Borax and hydrogen peroxide (I only have 3% solution at home) mixed with water 1:1:10 for 10 mins then wash out. This helped with hair loss, and my Rosacea went crazy. I had major die off with a crust forming over my Rosacea. Another side effect of the Borax, was into the 2nd week I started getting pain in my back and legs, by the third week it was really bad and my legs and feet were really swollen. I realized I was detoxing from flouride and believe me, it was not pleasant. I was back to normal by week 4 though.

My Rosacea had stabilized, but was not really improving. I washed my face with Borax and a oil cleanser I had made of Macadamia Nut &amp; Neem oil morning and night, used a toner I made of ACV, hydrogen peroxide and Colloidal silver, but was really only controlling the Rosacea. It was still red, raw with pustules.

I decided to try the anti-dandruff shampoo remedy I had read about here, so I found out it's called Stieprox here in Australia. I washed my face &amp; hair with it left on 5 mins, rinsed off and repeated as per the instructions on the box. I had another die off and the crust forming over my Rosacea that night, but the next morning, the improvement was huge! I've been washing my face with it morning and night for 3 days now.

The Ciclopirox has really worked and I would definitely recommend it. I will update if it isn't all it's cracked up to be after a month, but otherwise I'd say it has really worked so far.

Sorry it's so long winded, but I hope this helps someone else :-)

<description>[YEA] Portia from Orange, Ca, Us writes: "I have suffered horrible red blotches on my face. A doctor told me it was rosacea and prescribed antibiotics. This condition was psycho! I would go to bed with a flawless complexion and wake up covered in burning welts and pustules. I work with the public and was profoundly humiliated by my face. And then... BLINK... My skin would clear up. I could make no sense of it and felt desperate to find a cure.

Well, you kind folks at Earth Clinic helped me enormously. I would like to pass on a wonderful discovery, in the hopes of helping others. Recently the rosacea returned with a vengence. I tried ACV, aloe, and tea tree oil. Yes, they reduced the redness, but the basic rosacea remained.

Then I read about using a sulfer based shampoo on my face. I went to Walmart and could not find this kind of shampoo BUT I found a bar of sulfer soap IN THE HISPANIC PRODUCTS SECTION in the toiletries dept. I soaped up my face and did not rinse it off for 20 minutes. Amazingly the rosacea was 50% improved! I then put emu oil on my face. Well two days later my skin was completely clear. Free of rosacea and the stress of feeling ashamed! I did this treatment in the morning and at bedtime, and drank about 2 T. Of AVC during the day. I hope this helps. Bless you.

<description> Grateful For Earth Clinic from Livingston, Montana, Usa writes: "Thank you Earth Clinic! I broke out with rosacea 8 months ago after adopting a street dog in Costa Rica. She had alopesia and I felt there was a connection. I've been to two dermatologists, an Acupuncturist, a medical doctor, an esthetician and a veterinarian all with no good results. My rosacea progressed to cystic acne so finding this site I started applying 1/4 c Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with 3/4 c green tea twice a day followed by coconut oil and the acne went away but the rosacea still persists.

Finding out about the mites connection I did some further internet search and found these sites and wanted to share. They have great info about the mite connection and the mites themselves.

Due to cost and toxicity I'm going to try Ted's remedies first along with baby shampoo and/or Dandruff shampoo for me and my pets. I'll let you all know how it goes. Good luck and thanks again!

<description>[YEA] Aubrey from Royston, Georgia writes: "I have had rosacea for a number of years. I thought I had completely cured it and had no problems for several years after using something called ZNP bar. This is an over the counter bar of soap that has zinc pyrithione in it and is intended for use in seborrhoeic dermatitis. I have not used it in several years and the rosacea appears to be slowly coming back but I have been free of symptoms for at least 4 years with no treatment at all. Use this soap to wash your face 2 to 3 times a day. It will make your skin red the first day... Just keep on using it and that will go away. I used this almost every day for several years... It works... Keep the bar dry when not in use because it will become soft and get used up faster. Do not scrub the skin, just wet the bar in your hands and apply to the face and rinse a time or two with cold water.
