[YEA]  08/01/2011: Susan from Alpharetta, Ga: "We had a cockroach issue that got worse and worse even though our kitchen is spotless. Searching online for non-toxic ways to rid our kitchen of this issue, I came across a post on Amazon that talked about boric acid mixed with sugar, equal amounts, adding some flour and leaving on the counters and inside cabinets at night. I did this 4 nights in a row by putting the mixture on small pieces of aluminum foil that I threw away in the morning. We stopped seeing roaches after a few nights of this. I also ordered a device on the internet that makes a sound wave (safe for dogs, cats and humans but NOT for some other types of pets like ferrets) that keeps out roaches and mice, etc and have been using it ever since. Happy to report that I haven't seen a roach in weeks now. I highly recommend this one-two approach for those having infestation issues."

[YEA]  07/04/2011: Dave From Nebraska from Friend, Nebraska: "Cayenne pepper is great for keeping rabbits from your flowers, and ants from around your house. Also, if you use powered tide to rid your yard area's of ants. Very safe, and sprinkle a bit on the hill, the ants will take into nest, and about 48 hrs latr, pour some water on the ant hill. This creates a gas inside the hill, (very safe for your animals that night go sniffing around the white stuff) and will take care of the ants."

QUESTION

[QUESTION]  10/02/2010: Angie from Chesterfield, Va, Chesterfield: "I have recently moved into a house surrounded by lots of woods and we have had a lot of trouble with really big roaches - they don't get into food or anything, just come in the bathroom and near sinks - someone told me if they are that big diatomaceous earth is not effective - they are about 4-6 inches long and 2-3 inches wide. Anyone have any experience w/ this?"

10/03/2010: Lisa from Lafayette, La replies: "Angie, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! Oh, my gosh, I can't even picture what you have described. Is this in America????!! Those monsters sound like they come from some foreign twilight zone land. Girl, I am praying for your safety! Try borax in the corners of the bathroom, and plug up any openings with that yellow spray foam. Oh, me shivery timbers, I can't think about it anymore."
[YEA]  12/16/2010: Whiteraven from Chicago, Illinois replies: "Try baking soda powder mixed with sugar (50/50 mix) and sprinkle it around. Make sure its evenly mixed. The roaches eat the sugar and the baking soda kills them. I like using this because its perfectly safe around kids and pets. I moved into an apartment building that was infested and I battled them until I moved out. Problem was, they weren't living in my apartment, only visiting. But I made them feel as unwelcome as possible and made sure they didnt live long enough to make babies. Than I moved. Since they are coming from outside, you may want to seal any cracks or spaces in doors, windows, roof, and house foundations to keep more from coming in. Once you kill them, the eggs hatch weeks later, so be ready for a second wave. But as long as you get the babies first thing, you'll be good."
02/07/2011: Amazinggrace from Yucca Valley, Ca replies: "I like to use the boxes that you fold together for mice and snakes. It has a sticky surface and you can put a little cheese or peanut butter in the middle. It works great for roaches, and they're cheap at Walmart."
06/21/2011: Debbie O from Charlotte, North Carolina replies: "Ahhhhh Angie from Chesterfield, Va, you sound like you have Palmetto bugs, not cockroaches. Palmettos are the bane of the southern US housewife. They are pretty harmless but very gross. I like a little boric acid in the corners were any roaches turn up. But also seal those areas around the drains under the house and under the cabinets with plenty of caulking. I once saw a cat being carried away by a Palmetto bug... but that's another email."
09/21/2011: Jeff from Orlando, Fl, Usa replies: "Debbie, Palmetto bugs are what people who are not in touch with reality, call ROACHES. (smacking my forehead) In other words, Palmetto bugs ARE roaches. American cockroaches to be specific."

SPRAYS

06/20/2011: Robyn from Hampton, Tn: "I have this little store near me and they sell the off brand form of pledge. It is a furniture polish you spray on wood furniture... It foams up. It is Orange/citrus and smells great. I have been using it for quite some time to kill roaches in the kitchen. You really have to spray them and get it on them, and afterward if you watch them they will turn on their back and have seizures and die. It is really nice, because after you spray them and then pick them up with a piece of tissue, you can clean that spot with the rest of the polish that is left.

I am not sure why this works, but it does, and I am more comfortable using it than sprays, and it is much cheaper and it smells good and cleans counters very well too. I am using it all over because it is possible they dont like the smell of the citrus. I am using one called Behold right now, and I had one called Powerhouse Orange furniture Polish Spray before. I wonder if Pledge has an orange scent polish, if so that would probably work too. I don't know if Pledge works or not since I buy the cheaper ones all the time.

Also, Oil spray such as Pam kills black ants on dog food and in the kitchen on the sink, etc. It only works on black kitchen ants for some reason."
