[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 10/20/2010: Karen from Idaho, Usa: "14 years ago I suffered a terrible head/neck/shoulder/brachial plexus injury from a head-on car accident. After many years of surgeries, years of prescription meds, therapy etc. my right arm remains nearly 70% paralyzed and I battle pain and spasms everywhere from the neck down continually. Sometimes I can barely walk. One particular remnant of my injuries is that for all these years since my injury my fingers have not wrinkled in water as they used to prior to the accident. My doctor said it is because of the nerve damage. He said that is how they can tell sometimes if a person has a nerve problem, they soak their hands in water. With all my other aches, pains and spasms this however was the least of my problems, and didn't affect my life, just an observation of the change.
Three years ago I met a person who changed my life. He was a walking miracle (another story) and he inspired me to seek a life change through nutrition and natural remedies. In the course of my trying many things I came across an article on the benefits of Magnesium and so bought me a bottle and started taking them daily. I also bought a bottle of concentrated chloropyll and put several drops in my juice daily. If I can remember right, it was about 2 weeks later that I was taking a shower and noticed my fingers felt funny. I looked at them and saw something I hadn't seen in years... Wrinkled skin! This was a clear sign to me that my nerves had improved after all those years. But, as we sometimes do, I got side-tracked with life the past year and got away from my healthy regime and my symptoms all worsened and again my fingers stopped wrinkling.
About three weeks ago I returned to using magnesium and eating healthy and today my fingers started wrinkling again in water! I am now going to up my magnesium intake and start using the Magnesium Oil to see if I can make further improvements. This tells me it's helping my nerves... I'm hoping the Magnesium Oil will help my spasms and pain. I still have the partial paralysis but I hold out hope that I'm very close to finding the solution or combination of solutions. Although this is my first post, I have been browsing this site almost night and day since I found it and have shared it with all my friends."
Replies10/21/2010: Gina from Waxahachie, Texas replies: "Hi there- I have a friend who is partially paralyzed due to a scuba accident about 12 years ago. Do you think your regime would work for him? His damage is in the lower spinal column and affects everything below the waist. Thanks! Gina"
10/10/2011: Ali from Poplar Grove, Illinois replies: "I'm working on healing from nerve damage. I look at med. studies a lot. Check out gingko biloba for helping to heal nerves. Also a mushroom called Lion's Mane. Also make sure you take a good B complex, folic acid (I use Folapro) and check out Boswellia. And most recently I read about something called Ashitaba. I think that's how it's spelled. You can check it out on the web. God bless!!! :) Ali <><"

01/02/2012: Maria from Seven Hills, Oh: "My cousin lives in Greece and his little girl swallowed meconium at birth. She was born limp and suffered seizures/spasms almost immediately. She is now one and a half. She just recently started moving her arms and laughing. She cannot speak, sit up or move her legs. She is on medication for the spasms but her last one was a few months ago. There are not many options and I was hoping for some suggestions. Thank you."
Replies01/04/2012: Arimian from Port Of Spain, Trinidad replies: "Hi, Take a look at Jim Humble and MMS, you may get some help there."
01/10/2012: Maria from Gippsland, Australia replies: "Hi Maria, When meconium is passed before birth it is because the baby is stressed and usually there is a lack of oxygen to baby (you probably already know this). I don't know much about this but I would be using some magnesium oil to massage her 5-10 mins before bathing. But try a trial patch on her skin first and only for a couple of mins. Or just put some magnesium chloride or epsom salts in her bath water. The other thing for them to check out is Cerebral Palsy which could have been caused if there was a lack of oxygen. It probably isn't this but would be worth checking out because, if it is, the earlier therapy starts the better. All the best in finding some answers for this precious little one."

06/18/2011: Mandy from Singapore: "Hi - I've been experiencing tingling in my left arm right up to my fingers, tongue and occasionally my left leg too.
Sometimes there will be a hot flush on my arm that goes towards my fingers and cause a very strong pins & needles sensation.
I have a very stiff left shoulder as well and sometimes cause bad migraines that cause my eyeballs to hurt.
My MRI scans came out clear, there are no visible pinched nerves. I've been seeing a physiotherapist and she's been working on easing up the stiff knots in my left shoulder. The tingles on my left arm is gradually getting better, however the tingles in my tongue is not. Sometimes there are even tingles that go across my face, especially when I lie down. I'm very concerned about the condition on the tongue as it causes me sleepness nights due to the discomfort and triggers off my sinus in the mornings! Help!"
Replies06/19/2011: Linda from Alpharetta, Ga replies: "A good accupuncturist should be able to help you. Ask for references. Would be good if you find someone, who is specialized in nerves and has helped people with similar problems before. You might want to try a small dosage of ACV and see what happens. ACV increases blood flow through the whole body. If nothing happens or if it feels better you can increase the dosage a little bit."

06/17/2011: Jessica from Edmonton, Ab, Ca: "I have recently started experiencing different and irritating sensations in my arms, legs, and face. These sensations vary from tingling, twitching, short stabing pain, and a "skin crawling" feeling. It affects me off and on both day and night, and has started to affect sleep. I am finding it hard to focus on even just day to day tasks because of this. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what could be causing this, or idea's on how to allieviate these irritating sensations. Thank you in advance for any feedback."
Replies01/09/2012: Patti from Tempe, Az replies: "It sound like you have Restless Legs Syndrome. I take magnesium and potassium at the same time to relieve this."

08/31/2010: Donna from Austin, Tx: "I had dental surgery for implants and have nerve damage. The lower left side of my jaw and lip never woke up. Yes, it's still that numb feeling after dental work, but appears to be permanent. I've been taking megadoses of Vit. C powders in water, plus a multi-B. It's been 3 months now and the numb area seems to be getting smaller in size, burns, tingles, stings... Any ideas on remedies for this particular type of nerve damage?"
Replies09/01/2010: Brenda from San Antonio, Tx replies: "I find that alpha lipoic acid 300 mgs. 2 x a day 120 cps will usually clear up pain, tingling. Etc. It is not a cure, you must keep taking it to get relief."

[QUESTION] 06/05/2009: Sandra from Walnut Cove, North Carolina USA: "Nerve Damage: I have had many major spine surgerys. I have rods, plates and cages from my neck to my tail bone. I have nerve damage from where they waited so long to repair the disc in mylower back. I now have an implanted pain pump just to keep the use of my legs. No drugs will help the pain. I hurt every minute of day. If there is anyone that is going through what I am or having problems like mine please let me know.. I am looking for a doctor that can repair damage nerves. I will go to the end of the earth to find a good doctor. If anyone can give me some information please let me know. I am hanging in! I say a prayer for all the ones that are going through back pain. The cramps and numbness and pain is just the start. Don't try the injection and the burning of the nerves or steriod injection. It just prolong having surgery and then you could end up with nerve damage in both legs like me. Sandra wavedreamer1@aol.com"

06/02/2009: Reggie from Oakland, California: "SEVERE NERVE PAIN
ABOUT A YEAR AGO I WAS WASHING A BLENDER AFTER MAKING A CREATINE DRINK AND WHILE ON A DOWNWARD STROKE WITH A SPONGE/BRILLO PAD, I POKED MYSELF WITH THE BLENDER BLADE ON MY RIGHT MIDDLE FINGER RIGHT BELOW THE FINGERNAIL BUT PAST THE CUTICLE. IT LEFT ME WITH SLIGHT NUMBNESS AND ITCHING AND PAIN..IT REALLY BOTHERED ME BUT I TRIED TO IGNORE IT. STAYED THAT WAY FOR 3-4MO. THEN STARTED SPREADING TO MY OTHER FINGERS ON MY RT HAND THEN THROUGH MY HAND(ONLY ON THE BACK OF MY HAND, BUT ON THE BACK AND SIDE OF MY FINGERS). ALL THE WAY UP TO THE END OF MY FOREARM, DIDN'T GO PAST MY ELBOW BUT THE PAIN IS TERRIBLE..IT FEELS LIKE THE SKIN IS PULLED OFF THE FLESH. I'M NOT EXAGGERATING, AND IT'S 24HRS A DAY ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 10 IT IS A 9 IN THE DAY 9-10 @ NIGHT. DOCTORS HAVE NO ANSWERS FOR ME THEY WROTE IT OFF AS REFLUX SYNDROME DYST.(RSD). I'M THINKING SOMETHING GOT IN MY BLOODSTREAM FROM THE BLADE WHICH INFLAMED THE NERVE. THEY HAVE ME TAKING OXYCOTTIN, METHADONE, AND LYRICA..NONE OF THEM WORK. I HAVE TO TAKE ALL THREE TO KEEP THE PAIN RIGHT BELOW UNBEARABLE. I WAS A VERY ATHLETIC PERSON SO IT IS MENTALLY KILLING ME AS WELL AS THE MEDS TO MY KIDNEYS I'M SURE. I RECENTLY HEARD OF LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT WORKS BUT I DON'T HAVE 4-$5000 TO SPEND ON THE PROBE NEEDED. IF THERE IS ANY ONE OUT THERE THAT HAS BEEN THROUGH THIS OR KNOWS OF ANY THING THAT CAN HELP, PLEASE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL. THANK YOU.

[QUESTION] 04/19/2009: Angie from Missouri: "I was wondering if ted or anyone else could help me with this. I have researched this online and cannot find very much information about. my husbands hands, arms and legs are going to sleep at night and it seems to be getting worse. could this be a nutritional problem, lack of a certain vitamin? If anyone knows what would help this problem, I would appreciate hearing about it. thanks."
Replies04/20/2009: PR from Houston, Texas replies: "Hello, I had the same problems started reseaching and found out that vitamin B12 deficiency causes this. As long as I supplement with B12 I have no problem. If I forget to take the B12 I have problems again. Besure to use the kind that needs to stay under the tongue for a minute or so. How much depends on the person. Sometimes I take between 3,000 - 5,000 mcg a day. You will know when you get enough as the symtoms go away. I have found the amount for varies depending on stress and other things. Also B12 can help with energy levels. Good Luck as my experience the numbness and tingling can really hurt. There is also a homepathic product on the market that others have had good luck with. Can't mention name but has the word nerve in it if B12 doesn't work."
04/22/2009: Alex from Los Angeles, CA replies: "About the product. Does has the word "fix" in it? thank's"
07/29/2009: BellaAyla from Atlanta, GA replies: "On this B12 discussion, I understand it is super important to get sublingual METHYLCOBALAMIN B12 - it must be Methylcobalamin and you should take at least 1000mcg per day. Several people I know with nerve issues have used this successfully."
01/10/2012: Ravi C from Alpharetta, Ga, Usa replies: "My wife had tingling sensation in her arms and she took magnesium (400 mg) twice a day with Vitamin B6 (200 mg) twice/thrice and B12 (5000mcg) once a day helped her. I heard that B vitamins work better together so take these with a B-complex vitamin."

SPINA BIFIDA
01/23/2012: Lucille from Chiefland, Florida, United States: "Hello to the EarthClinic community. I am writing on behalf of my sister who suffers from Spina Bifida (lipomyelomenlingocele). As it went undiagnosed until she was in her 40's, severe damage had been incurred. Her spine tethered for the third time, cannot be untethered. She has had a urostomy and a colostomy, she is on a very limited diet and has suffered pseudo membranous colitis. Hypertension as well and a host of other debilitating problems. She has spent all these years with specialists in various fields affiliated with the best hospitals for care that she could possibly hope for. Still yet, there has been no relief, no answers.
Today, the Spina Bifida field has made great strides in helping children, but beyond a certain age, not much can be done. At 65 years of age, she now finds she is in so much pain; pain to sit, stand and to lie down is almost impossible. Different types of beds have been tried with no success. She keeps on seeking answers for relief of the severe pain which is from head to toe. I guess I'm reaching out here to see if there is anyone on this site who is an adult with spina bifida and perhaps would have some ideas. If we could just find answers for the pain. Medications given her do not work. Thank you -"
Replies01/25/2012: Mvo from Jhb, Rsa replies: "I am sorry your sister is suffering such discomfort - please look up and try EFT (emotional freedom techniques) - it may offer her some relief."
01/25/2012: Lucille from Chiefland, Florida, United States replies: "Thank you very much for your recommendation of Emotional Freedom Techniques. I shall check into it."
