[YEA]  05/14/2009: Martha from El Centro, CA writes: "Cure Menstrual Cramps / Toxemia

Mineral supplements! I had severe toxemia in the 90's and afterwards found the website where Dr.Tom Brewer discovered that putting a woman on the "milk diet" completely cured toxemia! I rushed to check and my prenatal pills had 0% Calcium! What the heck? So over the years & after copious amounts of research I have found that the lack of minerals and other simple nutritional deficiencies seem to lead to all manner of disease! So I began experimenting with different supplements and finally after exhaustive research found a great mix and since I have been taking it, I do not get sick anymore as often as I used to and the horrific painful periods ceased!

An explanation of how/why we get sick!
Advanced reading: www.chimachine4u.com/AA.html and http://biomedx.com/microscopes/rrintro/rr4.html explains what the Asian people have discovered over centuries of nutritional advancement. They eat the right way; lots of fruits and veg and good teas, little meat as compared to how we eat; lots of meats, few if any fruit and veg, coffee instead of teas!"

MOON CYCLE

03/13/2011: Carly from Seattle, Wa Usa writes: "Hi -
I was reading that this month is something called a "SuperMoon" on March 19th. The moon will be closer to the earth then than it has been in the last 18 years. Going on the things I have read in the past on how the moon effects a womans monthly cycle....I am wondering how many of you are having issues this month that you normally don't? I always cycle at 28 days...ALWAYS. Except this month. One week late. No, not pregnant. Just wondering if anyone else has had any unusual stuff going on...
Thanks for any input!"

03/13/2011: Robin from Rural, Va replies: "Yes.. exactly one week late! I have been running 28 days like clockwork."
03/13/2011: M from Nyc, Ny replies: "Your menstual cycle is based on your hormones... not the moon."
03/13/2011: Carly from Seattle, Wa Usa replies: "Thanks for the feedback Robin - I am normally spot on (no pun intended) every 28 days too - that is why I was wondering it there were others experiencing off things this month. I appreciate your sharing!

M- If it is purely hormones that control the menstrual cycle, than how come over 200,000 results come up when I type "Menstrual cycle and the moon" on a certain search engine?

I for one, find this "SuperMoon" stuff absolutely fascinating!

Here is an excerpt from "menstruation.com.au":

Human beings are affected by the moon. Women especially are affected by the moon and their menstrual cycle is intimately linked to this celestial body.

The moon:

  • regulates your menstrual cycle,

  • can trigger ovulation and fertile times,

  • affects your emotions and

  • affects the way people behave and view the world.

  • Women are connected to the moon by our blood, our hormones and our souls.

The first step in claiming the gifts of our menstrual cycle is to become re-acqainted with Mother Moon. Putting aside all the scientific phenomena of the way the Moon affects the earths tides, weather, animals, fluids and moods, symbolically the Moon has a lot to teach us.

In myth the Moon is a primary female archetype travelling the great round of Birth, Maturation, Death and Rebirth each month. This is a primal fundamental cycle of the universe of which every single living thing participates."
03/14/2011: Robert Henry from Ten Mile, Tn Usa replies: "HI U CARLY,
First I want to say that listening to you and your menstrual cycle and the phase of the moon is not offensive to me. I find it very educational.

I am sorry if I offended folks by saying we in deep stuff due to the goins on in Japan. Of course you Left Coast folks will know sooner than us in the fly over country. Have a nice day.====RH==="
03/14/2011: Sp from Gc, Ci replies: "My periods are normally 26 days, but this time its due more about 2 weeks. No, not pregnant. Moon does effect our menstrual cycles. When we are in the first 3 days of the cycle and it happens to be a full moon day, the bleeding will be heavy at nights. I have experienced it first hand."
03/20/2011: Woman101 from Ireland replies: "I have to agree, the moon does have an effect. I have amenhorrea (very very infrequent periods) and I'm having my first in over a year. Very bad, very crampy, and what do you know........ Supermoon cycle. I am convinced there is a link. I'll let you know if I have another ne in 18 years! "
03/20/2011: Rain from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "My daughters cycle actually is longer this month heavier on the 19th. Only been mensturating less than a year. I thought that was a reason. This could be another reason to consider."
04/25/2011: Mb from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina replies: "Wow! I was wondering why this past cycle was so strange and off! I forgot it was the month of the supermoon. I was about 2 weeks late on my period and negative on pregnancy."

NAY

11/04/2010: Gina from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada writes: "After 20 years of excruciating menstrual pain, excessive bleeding, clots, and huge tumors, and trying every dietary and nautral remedy I could find, I have eliminated all trouble within four cycles. I have gone from lying in bed for days on pain killers, bleeding for eight days, going through an ultra plus tampon and pad every hour, and having tumors the size of a canteloupe and a mango to painless, light, three day periods, and the cysts are shrinking!

YOU MUST ELIMINATE ALL PARABENS AND XENOESTROGENS!!!! This means no lotions (use coconut oil, almond oil etc), no detergent (this means no detergent... Not even the ones labelled "eco" or "natural"... Use borax and baking soda to wash your clothes and vinegar to soften them.... The detergent residue from laundry products stays in your clothes and is absorbed through your skin, causing great stress on your hormonal system), no shampoo or conditioner (wash your hair with borax dissolved in very hot water and then cooled slightly, rinse with apple cider vinegar sprayed on your hair and combed through... Your hair will be super soft and lovely and the vinegar scent will evaporate after a bit) , no liquid soaps on your skin (use an unscented natural Bar soap and use vinegar to wash your dishes), no perfumes, no nail polish, no hair colors, no hairspray... Etc. It was Dr. Eckhart's website and research that pointed me in the right direction. It takes a little discipline, but OMG! , it is soooooo worth it! "

03/26/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx replies: "you might want to try blackstrap molasses. but be careful - some people say that it makes their period lighter and others say it made it worse... it made mine lighter with no clots and no pain - it just starts and i'm not even expecting it! i only take about 1/4 teaspoon a day. start small - and if you have no bad effects - increase.

something else that really helped me when my period was dragging on and on once - was soy milk. now i usually do not drink soy milk - because i know that it can have weird effects on hormones - but i was desperate because my period had been going for about 2 weeks. i am 49 and pre-menopause and do not want to take hormones. so i went to the store and bought soy milk - and drink one glass. almost immediately my bleeding stopped.

soy milk has a very powerful effect on hormones! be careful. but it definitely helped."
03/26/2009: Paritp from Los Angeles, CA replies: "Thank you so much for your reply but just want to make sure that my problem is not getting periods. What can i do to regularize them? I am 27 and have a 2.5 yr old girl."
03/27/2009: Petit from Mississauga, Canada replies: "Hi :) I stumbled on your post today and couldn't figure out whether to reply or not. Then I thought who knows it might change your life!! Well I used to have irregular menses too and my sister too. But mine was worse : bleeding for a whole month. As for her, she would have it only after three or four months. After taking evening primrose oil, it came back to normal ... Maybe you could try to have somebody to advise you or google on the benefits of evening primrose oil. Maybe you should have a blood sample taken to know if you lack iron ... just a piece of my mind. Hope it's enough to get you on the right track. And uh, yes, I would be glad to know if it worked or not. Take care"

03/01/2009: T from Maryland, USA replies: "Have your ferritin level checked - this is directly related to iron storage. You want it to be around 70-90. My period used to be so heavy when my ferritin levels were really low. Supplementing with iron to raise this brought a big improvement in the bleeding. I took a liquid supplement which gave me no stomach or bowel problems. It does take some time to raise your levels.

CAUTION: No one should supplement with iron without knowing their levels first, and you should check them periodically when supplementing. High iron in the body can do you a lot of damage. If you do supplement, take it with vitamin C and L-lysine, and about 10 minutes or so before meals, to maximize absorption. Taking a B-complex regularly is also a good idea."
03/03/2009: Gean from Salina, KS replies: "I have a friend who was cured of very heavy bleeding by drinking red raspberry leaf tea. I have also heard that taking vitex (chaste berry) extract will cure this. It's supposed to be very good for balancing hormones, male and female. It's reported to work in as little as 10 days, although it takes 3-6 months for full effect. I ordered mine from Puritan's Pride. Several people I know have just begun taking it, so I'll post results later."
04/02/2010: Anna Kp from Perth, Wa replies: "Hi, I want to add to this! I have had painful periods to the point of fainting in the past, and I too found that the Chaste Tree herb did absolute wonders. I think it's full name is something like Vitex Castus Agnus or something? Anyway, it is cheap, and combined with limited dairy and a healthy diet & exercise, this completely got rid of ALL of my symptoms. I also have taken Magnesium, which was/is just as important I think, but it is definitely the Chaste Tree that has done it for me.. :)"

But after pulling for 1 month, my menstrual cramps and other pms associated problems are almost non existant. For the first time in years i was able to spend the first day of my course like any other normal day, not bent over in agonizing pain. And my skin has cleared up as well. My sister started OP and after a week she had the same outcome!! No Cramps. I will continue to OP and wait to see all the benefits from "pulling" the toxins out of my body. I also find that it is VERY!!! important that you brush your teeth and drink a large glass of water after pulling because you are releasing these poisonous toxins and you want to get them out."

I didn't even have to take painkillers and I slept better too. NB - you need to start taking the pills 1 week before your period starts. It may be too late to start taking them when the cramps start.

OMEGA-3

[YEA]  02/18/2011: Vania from Clarksville, Tn writes: "Just putting in a vote for Omega-3 Fish Oil for managing menstrual misery.

In the spring of 2007, I was diagnosed with a uterine fibroid, about the size of a cantaloupe. I am not emotionally prepared for hysterectomy, which was the primary recommendation, of course. My online research led me to Earth Clinic. Currently, at the onset of menstruation, I take the most common brand of organic Apple Cider Vinegar with a bit of baking soda, in 8 ounces of water. For over a year, this remedy has greatly reduced the flow and scary giant clots (like a school of goldfish) that made life so miserable. My periods got so light that I started worrying that I was going into menopause at the age of 41.

Unfortunately, during the last 2-3 months, ACV has seemed to lose its potency. My periods became quite heavy again, with lots of clotting (although not at "goldfish" level). Finally I remembered my mother's first recommendation for my symptoms: 1200 mg Omega-3 Fish Oil Capsules. These were also the first remedy that worked for my fibroid symptoms. But I take more than anyone thinks is good for me: 8 in the morning, 8 in the evening, throughout my 8-day menstruation. This works very well, every time. The only reason I decided to try the ACV remedy is that I LOVE ACV!

I had my "well woman" visit about 2 months ago, and no comment was made about treating my fibroid. I don't think these remedies have shrunk the fibroid, because my belly still looks like I'm 3-4 months pregnant, but I can be pretty content if I can continue to manage the symptoms.

Thank you, Earth Clinic-ers, I love you. You give me hope for better health, naturally."

Also note that while cherries/raspberries may clot bleeding internally, purple grapes, apples and garlic have the opposite effect since they thin the blood. The latter can also prevent wounds from clotting. Computer fluorescence can ALSO prevent wounds from clotting.

Black cherry concentrate OR Bing cherries OR cherry yogurt ARE EXCELLENT FOR STOPPING BLEEDING AND FOR PROTECTING MUCOSAL LININGS. Note that someone told me that RASPBERRY concentrate ENEMAS helped her. Both of these (black cherry and raspberry enemas) may even prove more potent than the raspberry tea mentioned."
[YEA]  02/04/2010: A from Smalltown, Bc Canada replies: "I agree with using raspberry tea for menstrual cramps. As soon as I feel any sort of cramping coming on, I make a very strong cup and drink it (with or without honey). Within half an hour, my cramping has eased.

Apparently it is the calcium/magnesium content in the leaves that helps, so if you have cramps, taking a regular supplement would probably also be beneficial.

If you have access to raspberry bushes, you can make your own tea by drying the leaves. Otherwise, any store-bought raspberry leaf tea will do."

YEA

[YEA]  11/08/2009: Ls from Toledo, Usa writes: "For profuse menstruation drink freely of a tea made with red raspberry leaves and cinnamon bark or cinnamon bark alone. This remedy will be found very effective for reducing pain and flow.

In a gel-capsule combine ground cinnamon and dried red raspberry leaves of equal volume; not by volume weight. Combine half the gel-cap with cinnamon and the other half with red raspberry. Gently packed the red raspberry leaves. The gel cap size is of your choice. I use size 00.

An easy way to fill a capsule is to place the ground or powdered material in a saucer or on a plate and scoop the two sections of the capsule together through the material; both halves will fill.

Fill one whole capsule with ground cinnamon and one whole capsule with dried ground red raspberry leaves. Use half of the cinnamon capsule and it place on one end of half the red raspberry capsule. Look at the capsule halves closely as one side is longer and a little bit bigger. This is so the two halves will combined to make one capsule.

Somehow it helps with the uterus. During menstration it has been amazing how it takes away cramping for me quickly! I also use the tea bag after I am done and put it on my face, and it tightens my pores! During pregnancy I always drink Raspberry leaf tea. It is quite expensive from the natural food store. So, I learned to make my own. I take the leaves off the plants, rinse them off with water, and let dry. Once dry (1-2 weeks) I crush them and store them. I then use them like any tea. It is now a great free beverage I share with my kids too!"

I too suffered from heavy periods coupled with terrible, debilitating cramping. After a little research, I bought 1Litre of pure organic hemp oil, and have been taking about 1-2 teaspoons a day, either on its own or in a salad or smoothie.

I have been doing this 2 months now, and the last 2 periods for the first time in my LIFE NO ibuprofen or other OTC (over the counter) medications. It is also wonderful to rub into the skin, especially where the cramping is, and on the temples and neck for headaches/migraines.

I'm not sure if this is what has helped since I have employed so many of the wonderful remedies here, but adding the hemp oil regime has yeilded the most noticable results in the menstrual area.

Good luck!"

12/05/2011: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "Holy cow! Two weeks of heavy flow is serious. The usual culprit is too much estrogen and not enough progesterone. You need to try to reverse this. Taking zinc and applying wild yam cream should help if this is the case. You definitely need to get your hormone levels checked with a naturopath or a endocrinoligist. Try applying the wild yam cream to your wrists through the entire month 1st. Usually you only apply it during the two to three weeks after your period is over but if I were you I would start by applying it 2 to 3 times a day for the entire month to start. Take the zinc (at least 8 mg and up to 30 mg)at least once a day. Limit your intake of foods with copper in them like coffee, chocolate, liver, crab, oysters and prunes. Avoid copper as much as possible. Try to not cook in copper pots or kettles for a while. Copper is a antagonist to progesterone and is helpful to estrogen. Zinc is the same only it is helpful to progesterone and an antagonist to estrogen."

11/01/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Shelly, fibroids and cysts in the uterus are caused by an iodine deficiency. (Read Dr. Brownstein's book about Iodine). Rather than buy iodorol buy plain lugols iodine. You need more than 50mg a day (I take more than that myself & I don't have cysts). A iodine deficiency in the uterus if untreated according to Dr. Flechas on youtube turns into uterine cancer.. You probably have thyroid problems as well. Iodine is needed for the whole body and it will remove heavy metals and flouride and bromide from the body as well.

Cramping during menstruation indicates a magnesium deficiency. Research the website magnesiumforlife.com and transdermal magnesium therapy. I also bought a book called "The Magnesium Miracle" by Carolyn Dean - you can read some of the book on amazon."

10/31/2011: Shelly from San Antonio, Tx, Usa writes: "I have always had a 5 day period with 1 day being really heavy. The past couple of months the 1 heavy day has become 2-3 heavy days & my period now lasts about 7 days, I have the same cramps that I've always had (I'm 42), I have scoliosis so I'm used to having some back pain - but the pain is now major. On my heavy days, I go through a super plus tampon about every 30 mins and have to wear a pad with the tampon to be safe. I was told last week that I have multiple fibroids & a cyst on one of my ovaries.

My doc is recommending taking out my uterus, I've never been pregnant & don't see that happening, so taking out my uterus would not matter much except that I'm single, live alone, and work 2 jobs (6 days a week) & I don't see how it would be at all possible for me to be off from work for 4 weeks and not have any money coming in. So I'm going to try ACV, birth control, iron supplements, along with B-12 and a serious change in diet. My question is this - I have noticed that I sometimes get dizzy or light headed a few times a day. I have been off my period for about a week. Is the dizzy feeling normal? Any ideas?"

11/01/2011: Aa2 from Usa replies: "You may have some serious anemia already going on. It may be life-threatening. I didn't succeed at natural approaches to the problem and had a hysterectomy due to the severe anemia. Try also juicing beets as a kick-start to your anemia problem.

Like I said, I didn't have all the right answers for myself, but feeling dizzy is NOT normal and if you seriously want to avoid a hysterectomy you have to have the right alternative solutions, and soon."

11/01/2011: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "I would definitely not get my uterus removed no matter what. It is there for a reason (not just for holding babies) and will make you miserable if you get it removed. Your hormones are out of wack. That is why your period is so different and painful. You should start using some wild yam cream (progesterone cream), zinc, and iodine. I have the same type of period issues. I am able to completely treat it naturally without birth control pills or surgery. It is an on going thing that I have become accustomed to adjusting the treatment based on my period flow and moods. When your period is too heavy you are low on progesterone and/or high on estrogen. Zinc is progesterone's companion and will help to bring your progesterone up and your estrogen down. Wild yam cream is easily applied to your wrists or somewhere that doesn't have alot of fat cells as it will be stored in fat cells. You can purchase wild yam cream at any health food store in the women's issue area usually. The iodine can be purchased online and is to get rid of cyst's in your ovaries and uterus (among many other wonderful benifits). I buy iodorol from amazon and take between 12. 5 mg and 50 mg a day as I get ovarian cysts quite often. As long as I keep up with the iodine I have not had any since starting it a few months ago. My period is now back to 4 to 5 days and 1 day of heavy flow. Your ovaries and uterus need iodine as much as your thyroid does. If you have tender breasts this can be helped with the iodine as well.

Copper is estrogen's companion so most likely you are getting too much copper and estrogen in your diet somehow. This is very common in this day and age so most of us women and even men have too much estrogen and not enough progesterone. Estrogen is not entirely bad but any hormone is bad if it is dominant. That's why it's best if you know the signs of each one that is dominant.

Too much testosterone in women can make us over sexually active, angrier or more tempermental, and sometimes we can get more manly features (like hair in the wrong places). Too much estrogen can cause heavy period's, emotional instability, ovarian cysts, cystic breasts, weight gain, and many other issues.

Too much progesterone can cause short and/or light periods, anxiety issues, weight loss, acne, hair loss, and some other minor issues.

So it is really good if you can watch for signs of one of them getting out of hand. If you think it's progesterone then add copper to your supplements for a while. If its testosterone then just using wild yam cream will help and taking zinc and copper together as well.

My philosophy is to stay away from synthetic hormones since they really mess with our bodies. I think women's sexual problems started with the birth of the birth control pill. I steer clear of anything that needs to be taken out of my body unless it is an absolute necessity. Even wisdom teeth. When you remove an organ from your body you are asking for a lifetime of instability. And when that organ helps to control your sexuality you can only imagine what your life will be like afterwards.

I mistakenly had my gallbladder removed before I got smart enough to understand the long term damage that is now being done to my liver and digestive system. Had I known then what I know now I would have done whatever I had to in order to keep the organ that helps digest fat. As you can imagine I will never be able to enjoy even an avocado without discomfort. So I would study up on what your uterus does and make sure you are willing to live without those functions before you have it removed."

11/01/2011: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "Iron deficiency isn't always the case with anemia. If you are dizzy it can be caused be other forms of anemia or other imbalances. Like pernicious anemia (B12 deficiency). Copper deficient anemia or thalasemia which is an inherited anemia and can actually be fatal if you take iron supplements. So make sure to find out if you are iron deficient or if it could possibly be one of the other (many) forms of anemia. Most doctors automatically assume it's iron deficiency if the hemeglobin is low but you need to ask them to test your iron levels to be sure.

Dizziness is caused by many many things so don't just assume it's iron deficiency. If you are unsure and iron deficiency has been ruled out then go to a Hematologist before you decide to get a hysterectomy. They can tell you what is going on with your blood more specifically. You also may have low blood pressure and not anemia at all. I am anemic and I was put on iron 3 pills a day for each of my 5 pregnancies. It never helped the anemia but the doctors insisted I keep taking it. I was diagnosed with thalasemia beta a few years later. I was lucky that the extreme amounts of iron the doctor perscribed did not do anything to me or my children that could have been fatal. But I do believe that the overdoses of iron caused my copper (iron is an antagonist to copper and vice versa) and selenium balance to go out of whack which caused my Graves Disease.

Doctors do not always have the right answers so be very careful. You have to take responsibility for what is put into and taken out of your body. You are the one who has to live with it for the rest of your life. Here is a helpful website explaining the copper deficiency vs iron deficiency and the importance of keeping a good balance.

Please read up on it as much as possible, because once it's gone you won't get it back! A uterus is what makes your woman hormones! No uterus no balance, except the one your doc will inject in you! HE/SHE is a liar!!!!"
11/02/2011: Tiredofshaking from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "I used to have the worst menstruation cycles. Several days of cramping and heavy flow. I would want to just stay in bed. I often would have to do a super tampon with a heavy pad every few hours. I tried different Birth Control pills for years and nobody gave me the right one until my newer doctor suggested Lessina which is a low dose birth control pill (and there are several versions of it with various names so google Lessina and see) After several months this totally healed my periods and now they are easy and majorly stress free and less PMS all over! This was a miracle drug for me. I spent all my teens, 20s and most of my 30s in horrible periods with massive cramps, back pain and pms until someone finally got it right with this pill!

I don't know where you live but I have never in my life heard of a doctor suggesting removal of the uterus or ovaries because of cysts etc. They usually try other remedies or surgeries and only remove them if you have benign big tumors or cancers. It will remove all your natural feelings of hormones. I would try other things at first before you give up your female organs. It sounds ridiculously drastic to me.

Just know that the birth control pill Lessina takes time. I noticed a difference in my first couple of periods but it took time to resolve but each time it was better and better and now it is super light and only for a few days! A miracle. Seriously!"

11/03/2011: Tom from Arlington, Tx, Usa replies: "hi, I have read many testimonials from women with similar problems being helped by virgin coconut oil, 3 tablespoons a day, all responses were favorable in controling the problem.

Try it, it can't hurt- it is just a food source.

BOL,

Tom"

11/03/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "I think one of the reasons coconut oil works is because it is anti fungal. Many people have fungal/candida issues because of the antibiotics they have taken. If you don't take probiotics at the same time candida will take over the body. Coconut oil kills candida. I can't see how it would help menstrual issues other than from an anti fungal point of view.

Two things that will help menstrual issues are a magnesium (a deficiency may cause cramping) and iodine (your uterus needs iodine and also a deficiency will cause cysts).

Also now many people don't have saturated fat in their diets, the coconut oil adds that back in."

11/04/2011: Kitty from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Hi Shelly, you have some really good replies here so there's not much more that I can add. But I'll say that I know what you're going through as I had a very large fibroid tumour and it caused me hell! Originally is was about the size of a pea and not causing any real problems - but then an idiot doctor gave me a tetracycline antibiotic even though I told him I dont cope well with antibiotics - and I even asked him to test my liver first telling him my liver was damaged as a child by a doctor that OD'd me on aspirin - but he wouldnt test my liver first saying it wasnt necessary. Anyhoo, I took the antibiotics and within a few weeks that tiny pea size fibroid grew to the size of a cantaloupe! :( I was in so much pain and bleeding so heavily that I would flood a super tampon and super napkin worn together in 20 minutes! I couldn't leave the house - not good being self-employed! When I saw my regular doctor he told me the antibiotics had compromised my liver - well a compromised liver when it's already permanently damaged meant my liver could not metabolise estrogen and that triggered the rapid growth of the fibroid!

Every doctor I met said they couldn't remove it and I would need my uterus removed - but I would not do that - I eventually found a talented doctor that could remove it. The surgery transformed my life and I still have my uterus :) I was told that I'm now at a high risk of getting more fibroids as my estrogen levels got so whacked-out but what I have been doing ever since (and during the ordeal) is taking Lugol's Iodine or Iodoral tablets - which ever one I have at the time (ie. hasnt run out), Magnesium, B6, a liver complex, MSM, a multi with a good balance of B complex in it, zinc.

Iodine is really essential for healthy hormones and especially a healthy uterus! Good luck and bless x"

I usually take two tablespoons twice a day during my period and it helps great with the cramps and blood flow. You can also start taking it before your period starts, it really helps."

10/10/2011: Maria from Gippsland, Australia replies: "Hi Sweet, Valerian is good altough most of us only associate it with sleep issues. It is also know as Tagara. If you do a search for 'valerian' and 'menstral pain' you will get a lot of reading. All the best."
10/10/2011: Wendy from ..., Canada replies: "I am 43 and had similar issues when I was younger... Mostly I have discovered the extreme pain to be linked to diet. Wheat and dairy specifically. Of course when I gave those up, all my headaches and other ailments disappeared too LOL But as a 'bandaid' solution, I use St. Francis brand Crampbark tincture, motherwort tincture and skullcap tincture. I rarely have pain anymore, with diet change my periods are bang on regular etc. BUT if/when I cheat I find my period that month is painful first day so I use the above tinctures and poof no more pain.

A zapper works amazing too [commercial product, url removed]. he's a lovely man I've used his machines for 12 yrs - worth the investment. Also dehydration is a major cause of most ailments including menstruation difficulties. It is the cheapest BUT HARDEST thing for most of us to do. I am only 112 lbs but I drink 10 glasses of water a day... (we switched to alkaline water a year and a half ago- yes I know there is controversy, but after 10 years of trying all different kinds it is REALLY working for us, we are rarely sick etc. etc. )

Anyhow, do WHATEVER you can but as per the book Your Bodies Many Cries For Water, we should be drink at least 1/2 our body weight in water ounces and not being on a salt free diet (assuming you don't eat fast food- that 'salt' is nasty!!! ) Anyhow, I hope you find a solution to help with the pain. I know the above 3 tinctures can knock out KILLER pain after childbirth (I've had 3 at home without any drugs at all LOL) soooo should help great with that. Aviva Jill Romm has some excellent books and recommendations for amounts- I know many people 'err' on the side of caution with dosages but when you are dealing with that kind of pain, 'drops' are hardly going to do much IMO - you are talking dropperFULS LOL but do your research first before just downing the stuff...... Hugs!"

10/10/2011: Mmsg from Somewhere, Europe replies: "Sweet: We use Oregano Tea (just plain oregano, the spice, in a glass of boiled water), or Chamomile Tea for such pain.

On this site you can also read about Blackstrap Molasses."
