BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES, SHEPHERD'S PURSE

[YEA] 01/02/2012: Noel from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan writes: "I had my period for a month straight... Getting heavier as time went on. I looked on this site and decided to give molasses a try. I took a teaspoon in the morning afternoon and night. I'm not too sure if it was the molasses or the shephard's purse or their combined effect, but I'm all done!! It didn't work right away.. I had to take it for about 4-5 days before anything happened, and it wasn't until I made an infusion of the shepherd's purse instead of just drinking it as a tea that my period stopped completely. So I would recommend to anyone to look into shepherd's purse if the molasses doesn't work right away. (there's lot's of info if you google it)"

[YEA] 10/17/2007: Samantha from Portland, Oregon writes: "I found cayenne a great cure for pretty much everything some time ago. It wasnt long ago that I came down with a bad sinus infection, cough, and fatigue. I decided to boil water on the stove, and add cayenne(open 3 capsules and pour them in), crushed garlic(4 cloves),half an onion, and grated ginger. THIS COMBINATION IS AMAZING. It is SO powerful. The most vital ingredients are the cayenne and garlic, but the onion and ginger are also very helpful. Make sure and boil everything until the onion is mushy, and the garlic is too. Keep a lid on, but every so often inhale the steam from the boiling remedy.. very soothing! Pour it into a glass and drink the whole thing. It is very potent, so what I do is add honey to it and it really tastes like liquid food- like a soup base or something.
Another remedy that I use is cayenne tea- just put a tea bag of your favorite tea in boiling water, and add a capsule of cayenne & some honey. Since I have been using cayenne in tea, and orally, and drinking the onion ginger garlic tincture, I rarely get sick.. and when I do, I can kick it within 3 days maximum. Cayenne is also extremely helpful for menstrual cramps."

[YEA] 08/26/2007: Tanya from Christchurch, Barbados writes: "Been using VCO for acne for about two weeks. Progress has been slow to non-existent. I als read that it helps with regularity so decided to take it internally (1tsp) for that. Well I didn't get that effect either but amazingly I tookit around the first day of my period and I noticed that my period stopped for a couple of hours. Whenit came back I took another tsp and it went away for two days. It eventually came back but the flow was low and totally painless. I googled the effect and foud out people have been using it for this purpose for centuries. Wish I had known earlier."

COCONUT WATER, CAYENNE

[YEA] 10/11/2011: Cece from Elmont, New York writes: "Menstrual pain became so severe for me that I wished I did not have a period. The pain would hit me so hard that I felt nauseated. One day at work, out of sheer desperation I went into the bathroom, wet a wad of paper towel under hot water, went into the stall and sat with that hot towel clenched on my belly button. I sat there and suddenly - splat! - I looked down and a fat blob of curdled blood looked up at me - and the pain was gone! I started examining what I ate via a journal and realized that things such as cheese, white bread (margarine), beef and alcohol cause me distress when it came around to my menses. I theorized that it was the food I was eating that caused a problem with circulation. I stopped eating all forms of dairy, started drinking lots of room temperature water.
When it was time for my menses, I drank lots of plain room temperature coconut water with a dash of cayenne pepper. That put an end to the debilitating pain! I've passed on the remedy to all my friends. Even if you don't practice good eating habits, when that pain hits, reach for the room temperature coconut water with a dash of cayenne pepper! IT WORKS in half an hour! If you don't have coconut water (no cans, please), use semi contra tea aka mexican tea, american wormwood, epazote with a dash of cayenne."

COD LIVER OIL
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 08/16/2011: Katherine from Seattle, Wa writes: "My mom used to have incredibly heavy menstruation and she used cod liver oil, but in the liquid form because she was taking so much.
The heavy menstruation was caused by uterine fibroids, but I imagine this would work with other causes, too.
She was taking usually about 3 tablespoons per day, but at one point took 5 tablespoons. This was when it was REALLY bad. Just keep in mind, however, that this is a little hard on your liver. You may feel very low on energy shortly after taking this much CLO because your liver is trying to process it. She really found this to be true when she took the 5 tbs.
The CLO worked really quickly, and she also lost weight while using the oil."

EPSOM SALTS
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 03/20/2007: Denise from Georgetown, Guyana writes: "My remedy for keeping crippling cramps and bloating at bay during my period is a very simple one that only requires ONE DOSE per month. I simply take 1/2 teaspoon of epsom salts in 1 glass of water on the 2nd or the 3rd day BEFORE my period begins and I have very little pain sometimes but NONE AT ALL most months. A dear friend of my mother's told me about this a few months ago and I've used it religiously since. I've even told my friends about it and I find that I don't experience any bloating either. I am sure this will work for you. Usually I mix the salts with a senna leaf solution but this isn't necessary. I would drink at least 3 glasses of plain water during the days before (this makes your flow heavy on the first 2 days but it gets lighter after that). The dose of Epsom salts is too small to hurt your tummy or give you more than one extra trip to the bathroom but it is enough to effectively clean your intestines."
Replies11/02/2009: Sanddollar from Billings, Mt replies: "I am going to try this and let you know how it goes. I have been reading lots about the amazing benefits of epsom salts that have been discovered lately (they help absorption/regulate insulin, prevent cerebral palsy in premature babies if given to mothers before labor, help severe asthma attacks in the emergency room (given via IV and by nebulizer). It also can help prevent premature births by discouraging uterine contractions - so it makes sense to me that it could help with the pain and cramping associated with menstruation. I have already been using the blackstrap molasses (one TBSP daily) with great results, but cramps are not completely gone."

EVENING PRIMROSE OIL
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 06/11/2007: Tessa from Kissimmee, USA writes: "I had killer menstrual cramps all my adult life. I am now 38 and was fed up with cramps that consumed my life for about 2 weeks each month. I would get cramps before my period and for about 5 to 6 days during. I dreaded the thought of getting my period. 1200 milligrams of prescription ibuprofen every 4 hours was not helping me anymore. My liver and stomach was overloaded from the drugs. I couldn't function at work or at home. I was high all the time from the ibuprofen. I would have to take days off from work just to get through my period. I came across an article about evening primrose oil and how it can dramatically ease cramps and pms. Well I decided to try it not really thinking it would work, after all I had tried every remedy I could find. Nothing helped. Because there is cancer in my family I would not take birth control pills to ease the cramps. I started taking evening primrose oil 2 weeks before my period. 1 with every meal. The day my period was supposed to start I upped it to 2 pills with every meal. Well my period came and I didn't even know it. NO cramps. I didn't get pms or painful breast either. I didn't even have to take ibuprofen. I am shocked!!! This is the first time in 26 years that I have no cramps. I don't know how it works, but for me it is a miracle worker. I wish I knew this years ago. I have lost so much time laying in bed or on the couch from cramps. I am so happy I found this remedy. It has changed my life."

GINGER

[YEA] 10/26/2008: Jennifer from St. Thomas, Virgin Islands writes: "Ginger for Menstural Cramps
I used to take Motrin Ibuprofrin for menstural cramps, and now I am so happy to have discovered a natural cure.
I boil 8 cups of water add about 2 inches of fresh ginger root that has been cut into 1/8" disks. You can mash up the ginger if desired. Boil the ginger for three minutes, then simmer for ten minutes. You can drink as ginger water, or add a tea bag (i like to add two green tea bags). Two cups of ginger water should relieve the cramps. I usally save the rest in my fridge and drink as needed."

About one week later I saw her and asked about the results. She said it helped with the carpal tunnel but it made the biggest difference with her menstrual cramps within about 15 to 20 minutes!"

HALF A BEER

|
[YEA] 03/22/2009: Keeza from Louisville, Kentucky writes: "When I was a teenager I used to get extremely bad menstrual cramps so bad that I could not go to school for being doubled over in pain. Nothing would help relieve the pain,so my mother was talking to her aunt and was telling her about it and she reminded mother that when they were kids their mom would have them drink like a half of a beer. So my mother went out and bought a beer and had me drink it and not even 30 minutes later the cramps were gone. They say it is the yeast in the beer but I'm not sure all I know is it was a life saver for me."

LICORICE TEA
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 03/02/2010: Happygirl from Galicia, Spain writes: "I just wanted to say that I have tried many things to cure my severe menstrual cramps. Recently I heard that drinking licorice tea helps with this debilitating problem. I tried it and I was surprised to find that it has been the most effective remedy I have found! It works better for me than naproxin or other "pain pills" and the many natural cures I have tried over the years. Licorice tincture could work just as well as a tea, although it is not a good idea to take licorice for more than a week straight because it can raise blood pressure. Maybe it is not for everyone, but it has worked wonders for me.
Blessings, hope, and healing for all!"

LOW IMMUNITY ISSUES
Ratings:
|
[QUESTION] 02/19/2009: Kimberly from Cut Bank, MT writes: "I have a difficult question, because I've never heard of anyone with this problem. Every month when I have a period, I either get downright sick with whatever is going around at the time (usually resperitory) or I at least get a headache and sore throat. I never feel good at that time of the month. The sore throat thing doesn't seem at all connected to having a period, but it happens every month and I've begun to associate a period with a sore throat and headache. On a side note, I am trying natural progesterone creams to try to get my periods to space out because the longest I can go between them (with cream) is 25 days. Without cream it's always 21 days. Any suggestions? Thanks"
Replies02/19/2009: Janke from London, UK replies: "Hi, Kimberly, I know exactly what you are talking about. If I am tired and my immune system is run down from too much stress, I get sick right when my period starts. I think it's more common than you think in women! I recently started to be more proactive and now take vitamin c and vitamin d3 a day or two before it begins and this has helped a lot."
02/14/2010: Cindy from Miami, Fl replies: "Hi Kimberly, I suffer from the same issue, Each month without fail I get a sore throat about a day before my menses start. I've started taking taking vitamin C each day and it has helped me greatly."

MAGNESIUM
Ratings:

[YEA] 12/19/2009: Sarah from North, Nj writes: "After researching how to eleavate the pain of cramps, I came across Magnesium. I have only used it when I have my cramps, (Magnesium 250mg) (nothing fancy, i think my bottle cost less than $5)
When I have my cramps, I take 1 or 2 a day, and it really helps with the cramping ( i think magnisum slows the muscle constractions that cause pain).. Im not sure how exactly it works, but it helps with cramps."

[YEA] 05/24/2008: Sagi from Hamilton, Canada writes: "Had painful menstrual cramps when I was 14/15 years old. The doctor put me on the B.C. pill to alleviate the cramps. Years later, my friend taught me about the importance of magnesium...how muscles need calcium to clench, and magnesium to relax. I started taking 1/4 oz. of magnesium in ionic liquid form, and no longer experienced the warning cramps prior to my period coming on. Wish my mother had known this when I was a teen! I am anxious to start on molasses, as I am looking for a more feasible source of magnesium. Currently believe I have fibroid tumors due to the excessive flow, as well as anemia. Thank you everyone for your testimonials!"
