[YEA]  12/06/2007: Steve from Victoria BC, Canada writes: "Hi everyone at earthclinic! I am a 60 year male. I found your site after a search for arthritis and natural cures. I started taking the ACV and BS two months ago. It has significantly reduced the pain and swelling between my knuckles. My hips and knee pain are getting better and the food taste better as well. My energy has increased and I am not napping as much. I don't feel as cold anymore and no more shivers in bed. It has also helped my wife with her knees. I can't thank you enough for your wonderful natural cure. I almost got sold on the Swedish joint pain formula but I' found your site and I am now saving my much needed money. Now I am going to start using the H202 inhalation method and I will let you know how that turns out.You are on my 649 list and you can hold me to that."

[YEA]  09/11/2007: Vincent from Atlanta, GA writes: "I have suffered with abdominal pain in my sternum area for the past 2 years or more. Finally the pain got so bad, I went to see a gastroenterologist to diagnose my condition. I figured it was an ulcer, but my endoscopy procedure showed that I was suffering from a hiatal hernia as a result of acid reflux. I was prescribed Prevacid to be taken for several months. I traced my problem back to having taken a hefty amount of ibuprofen from past sports injuries and knee surgery. I play basketball for exercise twice a week and wake up every morning with painful, stiff knees. Had I been aware of the negative results of anti-inflamatory drugs years ago, I never would have taken them. Anyway, after reading about the negative side effects of taking chemical drugs for acid reflux, I started praying and searching the web for natural remedies. I came across Ted's Apple Cider Vinegar & Baking soda remedy and have been on it for 3days now. It works great and quickly to relieve the pain of my acid reflux and to my surprise, after my first day of taking the remedy, my stiff, sore knees have been relieved. I played basketball 2days ago and had very minimal soreness and stiffness in my knees the next morning. I was able to climb the stairs in my house with no problem for the the first time in months. During my doctor's visits over the last few months, it has been discovered that my blood pressure is at pre-hypertension levels (138/88). I read several testimonials that users of the ACV remedy have experienced lowered blood pressure and cholesterol levels. I am anxious to have my blood pressure checked again to see if I am experiencing the same results. Hey, the acid reflux is getting under control and my knees don't ache and aren't stiff anymore. 2 down, 1 to go (blood pressure). It amazes me that I was able to come across one solution for all three of my conditions. I believe God directed me to this site for a reason. I will report back about my blood pressure once I get my next reading. Great stuff!!"

[YEA]  05/13/2010: Jane from Idaho Fall, Idaho writes: "I am 52 had started jumping on a trampoline on the fourth day I hooked my foot on a torn section of trampoline bed, could feel the outside of left knee tender. Then I wore 2.5 in. heels that night walking around four hours, by 10 p.m. I had such pain, off with those cruel shoes. The pain was felt especially if I moved leg laterally. After search on earthclinic I decided to use ACV mixed with water (70-85% ACV) and a small amount of Cayenne pepper (depends on your tolerance). Soaked a piece of cloth in mixture, wrapped my left knee with cloth then wrapped it in plastic wrap. I took off cloth on awaking. Knee felt better, but still small pain, by afternoon I forgot about pain and realized I had no pain. It was amazing! My knees have always been on the weak side, it has been 2 months since that happened and my knee is painfree. Thanks so much to all on earthclinic."

May this moment find you embraced in Loving Peace. I have read so many beauitful remedies and testimonies of the healing powers of nature. I was wonder if you could give more details about knee and hip pain and how it works physiologocally. My personal experience is that when I began the menopause process over 10 years ago, all my joints hurt and I had some weight gain, but never to have more than 4 hot flashes. Now, post menopause, my knees are cracking in the back all the time and are in pain. I am afraid to do any real excercise, hence tendon tears or ligament problems. I had an MRI about 2 years ago showing that everything was OK...just a little arthrtis.

Before I get started with the ACV anf BSM remedy I was hoping to get some more effect information about the joints and how these remedies actually change the health of the knee and hip joints. Thank you in abundance for your global site, I have given much thought about the hope that you offer for us who want to help heal ourselves and live natural lives. May you all be Blessed in this life and the next, for you show us what helping others is all about. Much Love and Happieness."

There are two things I can suggest for those arthritic painful knees. The first is pokeweed (poke sallet) berries if they grow there. The second one is MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) which you can research on line. Fortunately you can usually get a variety of sites to check on it just by typing MSM in your search window instead of having to spell it out."

My boss said that she had had them and had been given very, very painful cortisone injections. She said this may help for 5 years. I hate needles, so remembering that castor oil was very good for many things, massaged it into my feet along with Vicks vapo rub or any similar product and within 2 weeks, no more pain. I then was able to go overseas and walk 5 miles and no pain except I had a huge water pouch on the bottom of my feet when I returned. Rested feet 2 days, water reabsorbed into body and have had no reoccurance for 10 years.

Also, just came home from Thailand with aching, dragging leg and sore knees. I read the blogs on black strap molasses and ACV and have been taking daily and muscle ache in leg has gone, knees much better, so am a happy camper. Just have to try not to overdo my walking and climbing steep steps at 75 years of age. Also used the castor oil and Vicks massage on knees. Don't know why this worked, but no harm in trying it to get relief."

I really don't want to, but I am in so much pain that I have to do something. Goosebeans has given his recipe that has helped him. I am going to try it, but I want to know if anyone else has other ideas I could try too. Has anyone else on earthclinic had arthroscopic surgery? If you have, what were the results and were you pleased with them? Would you recommend having this surgery to anyone else? Your replies will be greatly appreciated!"

He is very glad he did it, and his knee is back to being useable and pain free again. It is not a very long surgery (as I recall, it was about an hour of sedation in his case). His recovery was rapid too - back to normal walking around in less than a week.

Our neighbor also had this surgery about 6 months ago, and his results were similar.

I say go for it - you will be very glad you did it if you are in daily pain and it is keeping you from doing the things that you want to do.

Best to you,
Carla"

About 2 years ago I noticed a pain in my left knee. I saw doctor after doctor and the pain seemed to just get worse. I finally had an MRI and the Dr. said I had patella Tendinitis which is common. Many people have patella Tendinitis and continue to live and workout. I stopped working out completely and found myself becoming more and more sedentary. I live one block from the beautiful Pacific Ocean and I wouldn't even walk to the ocean because the pain in my knees had gotten that bad. I even started using a cane to get around. About 3 weeks ago my younger sister recommended that I boil some water and take 2Tbl spoons of ACV and that every morning I should drink 6oz of water with 1/4tsp of baking soda. I am an avid baker who has a gluten allergy so I never get to eat what I bake but I always have fresh baking soda on hand. I didn't have the ACV so I just started drinking the baking soda every morning and OMG I have been smiling from cheek to cheek because my pain has gone away. I am not running yet but I walk everywhere now. Baking Soda once a day has changed my life. After reading others stories I am going to start using the ACV because it sounds like it has many healthy benefits."

Orth doctor said at this time, there is no need for surgery. He recommended I take 500mg of calcium a day to help heal the knee and help the bones. This got me very down because I am very active. I was not going to wait around so a friend in Ca. said how BSM was good for tons of things. I found Earth Clinic and I referred to it several times. I LOVE to research and research. Living in Louisiana, we have many sugar cane mills. I found thru friends a gallon of BSM from the mill. And OH YES.....it is nasty. BUT, every morning I take a Tablespoon right down....no time to play with mixing it in anything. I have been taking BSM for 3 weeks now. This I have noticed and right away. Although active, I was tired everyday......everyday. I ate right but was still tired....NOT ANYMORE......trust me on this one.....I saw the surgeron last week and he commented on how the leg was easy to move and how I was coming along so well. He commented on how I was very up beat and was even losing weight....for some reason I am not hungry all the time. I need to lose some weight to help the knees and I feel that the BSM has come to my rescue....We all know that it takes time for many remedies or meds. to help in various health issues. As I have researched on BSM, it can only benefit you and not harm. My husband began to take it daily also. He has been dealing with hip pain for the last 3 years..bursitus...in the last 3 weeks he has seen a difference. He also has more energy. I will keep you informed of our progress."

[YEA]  05/08/2009: Treef from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England writes: "Hi. About forty years ago I badly sprained my left knee when the heel of my shoe broke. Since that time it occasionally becomes extremely painful, with a large swelling on the inside of the knee (I mean the side towards the other leg). A few years ago, however, I read about using cabbage leaves to treat joint pain and so thought I would give it a go. Hey presto! It worked. This is the treatment: Take some large dark green cabbage leaves and cut out the hard stalks. Next, in their raw state, crush them using a rolling pin until the juice starts to run a little. Then wrap them around the knee--right around and overlapping--and then apply a crepe support bandage to hold them firmly in place. This is best done just before bedtime. Go to bed, get a good night's sleep with your cosy knee held firmly in place, and wake up smelling like a compost heap. Unwrap the bandage, discarding the leaves, and test the leg gently. It works for me and also for a student I once had on a dance/drama course. He was about 16 and practically crippled with the pain from a knee that the doctors could do nothing about. He tried this remedy--and yes, it worked for him too! Excellent website--thank you."

CASTOR OIL

[YEA]  11/28/2009: Marge from Phoenix, Az, USA writes: "I've been using castor oil packs as a healing treatment off and on for years since first learning of their efficacy from a 'holistic' doctor here in Phoenix. Once years ago I accidentally slammed a car door on my ankle which caused tremendous swelling and bruising and I simply could not bear any weight on my foot. Elevated the leg and wrapped the ankle in a rag soaked with castor oil and applied heating pad over ankle. Remained that way for most of the night and upon waking, nearly all swelling and bruising was gone and I was able to walk and bear weight on injured ankle again! Amazing.

Several years ago tripped and fell down a flight of concrete stairs landing on both knees. Both knees swelled and were in excruciating pain. Proceeded to lie down with both legs elevated on top of several pillows and applied a well-soaked castor oil pack to each knee. Placed heating pad on top. Next morning - pain, stiffness and swelling was 95% gone and was able to go about my normal activities.

Am currently working on severe tendonitis in right shoulder affecting rotator cup and extending down right arm, using castor oil treatments at night. Will let you know results."

[YEA]  06/13/2008: Al from Collinsville, IL writes: "Call it what you wish, Voodoo, Witchcraft, "BS", whatever, but it DID work for me.

Having recently torn the cartilage in my left knee, simultaneously diagnosed "with a little arthritis" in the same, and swelling behind the knee. My Sport's Ortho said that the swelling was common with the torn cartilage but should go down in time. I began searching on the Web for a magical pain relief remedy (other than my already supplementation of Glucosamine Sulfate, Chondrotin, Taurine, Collagen, HA, Cats Claw, Bromelain, MSM, etc., etc., etc - .all of which I have been taking for years due to 27 yrs of cycling but at almost 68yo, something had to give). One subject that kept surfacing on the Searches was an old time remedy of Castor Oil. I'm not in terrible pain, but it is a 24/7 aggravation, as anyone who has similar discomforts can attest to. I decided to give it a try; purchased a package of ladies' cosmetic, cleansing pads (~3"x4") and a small bottle of Castor Oil (CO), I placed a pad on a saucer, saturated the pad with CO (not dripping) and popped it into the microwave for about 35 secs. I, then placed the (105F) warm pad on my knee; wrapped my knee-pad with plastic wrap (to keep the CO from staining the heating pad) and then applied a heating pad, set to Med. heat. I left it on for about 1 hour and when I removed everything, I did a "test walk" -not only was my knee not stiff, and the swelling was 95% GONE!! I could walk with 100% less discomfort and this was 10x more effective than the Cortisone or three Hydraluronic Acid injections I had received in a two months period. The other nice thing, is that you don't have to throw the saturated pad away; place in a Ziploc bag for the next application and just add a little more CO.

I generally apply this treatment daily, each time the knee feels better - I know it's not going to remedy the situation 100%, but has made my life much better..

COLD SHOWERS

[YEA]  10/15/2007: Putranto Sangkoyo from Jakarta, Indonesia writes: "I am very delighted to read all the good positive stories about cold water shower healing. Allow me to share my story.

I am a Moslem (from Indonesia), and the month of Ramadhan (fasting) was just over. For those not familiar with this, Moslems fast for 30 days during the Ramadhan month, every day, wake up at dawn (around 3 AM), have meal, fast during the day (no drinking no eating no sex), and break the fast at around 6 PM.

I have this problem with my right leg knee, it gives me pain when I bend during a prayer. For one month of Ramadhan, I "practiced" the cold water shower each time I wake up, at around 2:30 AM. After that, I pray (the so called "night prayer"), and have meal. To the best of my knowledge there is no reference in Al Quran about taking shower at "night", although there is the so called "night prayer" which is not obligatory, but very strongly advised for Moslems, and it takes time somewhere between 2:30 and 3:30 AM. We call it the "last one-third of the night".

I just felt I had to heal myself this way, because I heard many times especially from elders and those "natives" coming from rural villages, of cold water shower "healing", which normaly takes time between 2 and 4 AM. Many people here say, it's not healthy to take shower at night, before 12 AM, but it's healthy if taken after say, 1 AM. Some martial arts practitioners here do take shower after evening/night training, at around 1-2 AM or later. I had a friend who literally couldn't walk, not paralyzed but pain in both his legs (thigh), was eventually healed, Praise Allah, could walk (and run) normally again after spending about a month or so taking cold water shower from a well (using bucket / dousing) every night (at around 3 AM).

Back to myself, Praise Allah, after 30 days of night cold water shower, I do feel better now. I can bend my knee again, with less pain.

Perhaps someone have an explanation about the "state" of water during the night, especially between 2 and 4 AM ?"

I am 40 and very active (yoga, lift weights, run, etc) It flared up on occasion when I would work out hard and I would injure my shoulder or neck, putting additional pressure on the nerve. About 18 months ago the pain got so severe that I was seriously considering surgery which would have fused some discs in my neck together (among other things). A business associate had mentioned that he had problems with his knees hurting when he drank diet coke, which i drank. As a last resort I quit drinking diet coke and about 4 weeks later the pain in my neck was down to manageable levels again. This lasted about until recently when it flared up again, I had recently started taking a new weightlifting supplement (powder) and upon closer inspection it contained aspartame. I talked to my doctor who had not heard anything about his particular side effect of aspartame, but we theorized that the additive caused small swelling to muscles which impinged my already narrow nerve openings. needles to say, I have cut aspartame back out of my diet."

[YEA]  12/21/2010: Ken from Henderson, Nv, Usa writes: "My experience.. Back around 1985 my knees had to be replaced. The cartiledge had worn away, and jagged bone was scraping on bone. Best known Dr. in Boston, Ma took xrays. (BRUINS & CELTICS DR. ) both I and my wife saw the xrays. Got a 2nd opinion from specialist in Lowell, Ma. Same diagnosis same xrays. Looked very bad. I COULD HARDLY WALK UP STAIRS AT all, Knees hurt so bad. No tennis, racketball, waterskiing, skating, no nothing. Bone against bone in both knees. Went home and on line found a study being done at harvard univ. They gave ground up chicken cartiledge to patients about to get knee replacments. They reported amazing reversal of knee problems.

It took about 2 months for some pain to go away... So I started taking 4 packets of KNOX GELATIN in orange juice every day. After 60 days I saw improvement starting. At six months I could climb stairs and run around with a frisbee with my kids. At one year I felt back to normal. About ten years ago I fell on my shoulder and it was xrayed in winchester, Ma. I told the doctor about my knee problem, he asked if he could xray my knees, and he did. HE POINTED OUT TO ME ALL THE WHITE CARTILEDGE IN MY KNEE JOINTS. He stated emphatically that I never had a knee problem in my knees.

I am now almost 70 and my knees are perfect. I know people who suffered with knee pain and knox gelatin made their pain go away. I still take one packet every week or two. I actually told Knox about how it effected my knees, but they wern't interested. (I know there is a lot of money made with knee surgery today. ) So basic it's hard to beleive. If I can help anyone who has a knee problem, explain what I did, email me at kenpratt1(at)gmail(dot)com. I'm not looking for anything. If I can help one person I'll be very happy..... Please try it. My mate is even worse as he is a commercial vinyl layer and skates too so has terrible knee problems. Mine are not so bad but I'm sure they could do with a bit of restoration and I'd rather help them now before I have a serious problem with them. I know my mate would also appreciate some help in this area as he's already had several knee ops and he's my age. Is the gelatin any specific type or if I just go to the pharmacy will they have the same sort of stuff. I'm in Australia so I don't know but I doubt we've got the knox one you are refering too. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Brendan."
12/22/2010: Brooke from Montgomery, Tx, Usa replies: "Hello Brenden,
The gelatin does have a role in our body, it isn't the vitamin content but it is ability to work with the activities of the glands, causing the glands to take from the digested vitamins. The gelatin when taken at least 3x a week is a really good thing to do to your body, especially after eating or after taking your vitamins. For your knees, I would try rubbing peanut oil on them, especially after a hot sauna, or hot bath, or a steam bath. The reason is that when your pores are open, the peanut oil really gets into your bones and your cartilage areas. Peanut oil, olive oil, Castor oil, any of those oils will work. You can follow the oil rubs with a little bit of grain alcohol to close the pores to really get the oil in there. Also you can do a salt and apple cider vinegar rub on your knees if they hurt. Get salt and put ACV in it until it is wet all over. I would do this before the bath and then the bath and then the oil rubs."

[YEA]  06/04/2009: Kris from Winnipeg, MB Canada writes: "iodine cured Bad knee.

35 years with bad knee. joint would come off some times. always swollen. applied regular iodine externally three times a day. applied one week on and 4 days off. only the affected part would mildly burn and the knee will feel bug crawling inside the skin. after a week the bad skin looked like war zone. so gave four days break. new skin came after break. started the application again. itch started badly on the knee. applied Tea tree oil over iodine to stop the itch immediately. after 4 weeks knee shape came to look like normal. at this time the effected part squeezed to the size of a quarter. still kept on applying on the affected area and surroundings. pain went away after 3 weeks from the start up of the application. but didn't stop applying. this has been 4 months now. knee is like brand new.

i did switch from regular store available iodine to lugol's iodine after 3 months. started applying iodine to every family member's joint pain and cysts. iodine never failed to cure."

For a week and some I have been doing the honey-cinn and I positively feel the difference. I have not taken any prescribed meds. for a week. I add 2 teaspoons honey and 1 teaspoon cinnamon and add this to a cup very hot water. I drink this morning and nite. I also love the fact that it benefits me in other ways. Hope this helps someone else."

BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[YEA]  06/05/2008: Jan from Edmonton, AB writes: "hello, Im 58 and sometimes have pain in my knees, probably onset of arthritis, I found out that laying on my back raising my legs up and moving them as if riding a bicycle tends to relive the pain."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  11/21/2010: Carol from Granada Hills, California replies: "I'm glad there's at least one suggestion to use exercise. Being overweight at 61 I've had occasional pain in my knees and, particularly, in my hip nerve from time to time. About 2 weeks ago I started having severe knee pain in my right knee, some in my left knee. The hip nerve thing came back and the pain although concentrating in the knee area was extending to my leg muscles and hip nerve again. It was getting worse each day at an alarming rate and I began wondering whether I should go to the doctor and whether I'd need a cane, surgery (or what?). I even went to my office manager at work and told her that I was incapable of walking down 5 flights of stairs for an emergency at our office building because my leg was starting to give out walking down 3 steep steps of a bus every day.

So I returned to this web site which has been a lifesaver. I tried a number of the remedies (Vitamin C, tumeric/ginger, ACV). Unfortunately they didn't really help. As an aside, I had super results with ACV in losing weight until I had to stop because it was causing my blood pressure to go up. I went to youtube and was very surprised and delighted to find that there are people who have had success with specific exercises for the leg muscles that dramatically help the knee. In my research online I learned that there are a number of different types of knee joint problems so exercising is not always the solution. But the concept is that weak, underused leg muscles allow the knee cap to get out of position causing pain and other problems. There were quite a number of people who wrote that the exercises helped their knees dramatically and quickly. I tried a couple of the "easy" exercises and for me got immediate relief of about 60%. Within 2 days of doing the exercises I'm better 85%. I'll continue to do them because it's a marvelous feeling to get rid of the knee pain and nerve weakness. Immediately after doing the exercises my legs have this feeling of well-being (lasting temporarily) that seems to say, "Thank you, that's the right thing to do. "

Anyway, for anybody else wanting to try exercising, the 2 exercises I liked best were: (1) Standing on 1 leg while you bent and held the foot to your other leg so that your knee was pointed straight to the floor. (2) Bending your foot up and stretching the ankle so that your back leg muscle is stretched. I accomplish this best by standing on one leg and stretching the other leg out behind me while keeping the foot flat on the floor (even bending the knee to stretch the angle of the foot more). To be safe, it would be helpful to see the youtube videos on line: (1) Knee Pain Rehab Video Patellar Tendonitis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQjaWaIzJXA&feature=related and (2) No More Knee Pain Corrective Stretching Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--PeQIBwdxc&feature=related

Hope this helps somebody else, too."

[YEA]  11/22/2010: Carol from Granada Hills, California replies: "Update on my knee pain. Now that I've been doing the leg stretches for 3 days (I've done them every 3-5 hours during the day), the knee pain (plus leg muscle pain) is 100% gone. I'm assuming that it would return if I stop the leg bend/stretches, so I'll continue to do them, just not as often."

MSM

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  Deirdre from Los Angeles writes: "I keep re-injuring my knee from strenuous exercise. I find that MSM heals the tenderness in my meniscus very fast -- usually overnight. However, I started to take double the dosage last week and also started having side effects for the first time! You never hear about the side effects of MSM, but I think it probably happens to people more than they realize. I started to have shortness of breath and a racing heartbeat at night when I lay down to sleep. That lead to a slight panic attack because I kept feeling like I wasn't getting enough oxygen. I am not sure how MSM affects the muscles around the heart and or lungs, but it perhaps tightens them (possible?) causing this sensation. Would love to know if anyone experiences the same side effects."

[NAY]  09/05/2009: Christine from Virginia Beach, Va, Usa writes: "Sprained my knee badly a few weeks ago. Have tried MSM, apple cider vinegar, cayenne, etc. Nothing works, although ACV and MSM do reduce swelling a little. It takes a long time to recover from a sprain, and working on your feet all day as I do just makes it take longer."

09/06/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi Christine,

Passing along a home remedy I learned from a patient's mother. She said her daughter twisted her ankle the evening before. The child's ankle looked fine and I could move it all around without any wincing from pain. I could find nothing wrong with it and asked if she was sure she twisted it the day before. After her assurance she did, I asked what she did for it.

Her answer: "I took a piece of brown poke, scruffed it between my hands to get the stiff out, soaked it in vinegar and wropped it around her foot and ankle and left it on all night. After further questioning as to the identity of the piece of brown poke (my first guess was some dried poke sallet leaves) but it turned out to be brown paper grocery bag. When I got home that evening, I found my daughter had twisted her ankle again that day, so we used the brown poke soaked in vinegar, wrapped it around her foot and ankle, covered it with saran wrap, then used ace bandage to keep it on and left it on over night.

Next morning we were both happy to find that she was walking without pain, where she usually limped for a week or two afterwards.

Another EC correspondent recently wrote in about her husband's bad knee flare up and how she waited until he went to sleep and wrapped a vinegar soaked towel around his knee & covered it with saran wrap and left it on overnight and how much better his knee was the next morning. Since she said the towel soaked with vinegar worked so well, you probably can omit having to scruff the stiff out of the brown poke and go with the towel.

Good luck with the vinegar, but I would also keep up the MSM."
