For about the last ten years I have had a pinched nerve in my neck. I am 40 and very active (yoga, lift weights, run, etc) It flared up on occasion when I would work out hard and I would injure my shoulder or neck, putting additional pressure on the nerve. About 18 months ago the pain got so severe that I was seriously considering surgery which would have fused some discs in my neck together (among other things). A business associate had mentioned that he had problems with his knees hurting when he drank diet coke, which i drank. As a last resort I quit drinking diet coke and about 4 weeks later the pain in my neck was down to manageable levels again. This lasted about until recently when it flared up again, I had recently started taking a new weightlifting supplement (powder) and upon closer inspection it contained aspartame. I talked to my doctor who had not heard anything about his particular side effect of aspartame, but we theorized that the additive caused small swelling to muscles which impinged my already narrow nerve openings. needles to say, I have cut aspartame back out of my diet.

I completely concur. I did a research article once on aspartame and it was published. My publisher got a threatening call from NutraSweet's lawyers! They seem to keep a number of lawyers on permanent retainer to try and squelch the consistent bad press about diet drinks that contain aspartame.

It is nasty, nasty stuff. Using the completely natural extract of stevia for sweetening will get you off any dependence on artifical sweeteners or sugar, for that matter.

Aspartame is unhealthy and will harm your body. The companies that produce it, including NutraSweet, know it is bad for you. They have to hire lawyers to try and suppress the truth from getting out! That alone should give you all the info you need to make a life-affirming choice for yourself or others.

By the way, my editor stood behind me and refused to retract the article or apologize for it. We never heard from those cretins again.

For me exercise eliminates knee pain. I have also had meniscus issues in one knee for at least 6 years now after a particularly hard training session at my dojo in Los Angeles. I kept walking the dog after the injury, but didn't go back to karate for a good week. I did resume my training after a week and my knee felt better in 3 weeks. Now, oddly, my medial meniscus becomes inflamed only if I stop exercising for more than a week. When it does, I know I need to get back to exercising asap. Overnight the pain and inflammation diminishes to almost nothing. It's very peculiar thing.

Ya exercise is the only thing that relieves knee pain for me too. I think it's because you force blood to go the the pain area and that starts the healing process laying on the couch and doing nothing is the worse thing you can do for a weak knee.

Year ago I injured my right knee - the meniscus - working out. It was very painful for a few weeks, but I continued to exercise and it healed, but not completely. I can't do high impact workouts. I was travelling last week and forgot to bring my supplements with me. When I returned, I went for a walk in our hilly neighborhood. By the second small hill, the knee with the meniscus issue starting killing me and I limped home, barely making it up our driveway it was hurting so badly. My knee never gives me this kind of pain! Then I realized that what I stopped taking for the past week was my omega 3 fish oil capsules. I immediately took one and then 2 more the next day. My pain level went down 80% within a day and was back to my "normal" (that is, ocasional inflammation with fast recovery) within 2 days. I am amazed at how much the fish oil helps. I have taken fish oil regularly for years, but only now figured out that it's what has been helping my knee this whole time!!!

My experience.. Back around 1985 my knees had to be replaced. The cartiledge had worn away, and jagged bone was scraping on bone. Best known Dr. in Boston, Ma took xrays. (BRUINS & CELTICS DR. ) both I and my wife saw the xrays. Got a 2nd opinion from specialist in Lowell, Ma. Same diagnosis same xrays. Looked very bad. I COULD HARDLY WALK UP STAIRS AT all, Knees hurt so bad. No tennis, racketball, waterskiing, skating, no nothing. Bone against bone in both knees. Went home and on line found a study being done at harvard univ. They gave ground up chicken cartiledge to patients about to get knee replacments. They reported amazing reversal of knee problems.

It took about 2 months for some pain to go away... So I started taking 4 packets of KNOX GELATIN in orange juice every day. After 60 days I saw improvement starting. At six months I could climb stairs and run around with a frisbee with my kids. At one year I felt back to normal. About ten years ago I fell on my shoulder and it was xrayed in winchester, Ma. I told the doctor about my knee problem, he asked if he could xray my knees, and he did. HE POINTED OUT TO ME ALL THE WHITE CARTILEDGE IN MY KNEE JOINTS. He stated emphatically that I never had a knee problem in my knees.

I am now almost 70 and my knees are perfect. I know people who suffered with knee pain and knox gelatin made their pain go away. I still take one packet every week or two. Hey Ken, I am very interested about this gelatin stuff for knees. I've been skateboarding since about 12 yrs and I'm now 25 and my knees are not great especially for my age. My mate is even worse as he is a commercial vinyl layer and skates too so has terrible knee problems. Mine are not so bad but I'm sure they could do with a bit of restoration and I'd rather help them now before I have a serious problem with them. I know my mate would also appreciate some help in this area as he's already had several knee ops and he's my age. Is the gelatin any specific type or if I just go to the pharmacy will they have the same sort of stuff. I'm in Australia so I don't know but I doubt we've got the knox one you are refering too. The gelatin does have a role in our body, it isn't the vitamin content but it is ability to work with the activities of the glands, causing the glands to take from the digested vitamins. The gelatin when taken at least 3x a week is a really good thing to do to your body, especially after eating or after taking your vitamins. For your knees, I would try rubbing peanut oil on them, especially after a hot sauna, or hot bath, or a steam bath. The reason is that when your pores are open, the peanut oil really gets into your bones and your cartilage areas. Peanut oil, olive oil, Castor oil, any of those oils will work. You can follow the oil rubs with a little bit of grain alcohol to close the pores to really get the oil in there. Also you can do a salt and apple cider vinegar rub on your knees if they hurt. Get salt and put ACV in it until it is wet all over. I would do this before the bath and then the bath and then the oil rubs.

take 4 packets of KNOX GELATIN in 8 ozs orange juice every day two packets in am and two packets in pm. Also mixes well in chocolate milk. In 8 - 10 weeks you will see improvement starting. It works. My knees are now perfect and I'm over 70. I still take a packet or two every month. It's very inexpensive insurance.

I've been taking Knox Gelatin to strengthen my finger nails. Never knew it might help my knees. Personally I think it is EXPENSIVE. It's about $8 a box here. That would not even last a week!

The OP mentions telling Knox about the cure but they weren't interested.

By USA law Knox is forbidden to be interested. No food can be sold for health effects, only drugs are allowed that. If Knox were to advertise it's food as helping knee cartilage, they would be forced to stop selling it or spend $50-100 million on double blind clinical trials to prove the validity of the claim. That's what Congress decided, it's a food with no known health benefits or it's a drug that must undergo expensive trials before being sold; supposedly this rule protects us all from scams.

Knox is not the bad guy in this game. Sites like Earthclinic are how we find out what different foods might actually do good for us, bypassing the impossible $$$$ clinical trial requirement.

I recently started using gelatin in a fun way--making Knox blox (Knox is a gelatine brand in the US). Take 1 pack of Jello or other sugar-free gelatin, add 2 packets (2 tablespoons) of unflavored gelatin, add 2 cups of boiling water and stir until dissolved. Then pour into a 7x7 pan (I have a Corning Ware casserole dish and cool for one hour. Slice into 20-25 block and eat with your fingers. You can use Jello with sugar, but I prefer the sugar free. You can also use fruit juice for flavoring, then you need 3 tablespoons or packets of unflavored gelatin. It's great and a quick way to eat a lot of gelatin. Not only great for your joints (it's made of melted cartilage), it's also great for your skin, hair and nails.

Thank you for confirming this. I recently bought a box of Gelatin and been eager to hear how it works for knee problems. I feel from my bike few yrs ago and it mess up my knee cap and I had some shots too. However due to the exercise those squats and lunges irritated it and my ligaments around my are started to ache and swell. Now the swollen is less but every time I walk up the stairs to my work it hurts even on the weeks when I don't workout. I am 27 yrs old and my highest weight was 280 pds and have lost 50pds so far. So I find this so heartbreaking because I been unable to do any lower body workouts due to my knee pain. I just hope this really helps me. I feel so old. :(

I can practically guarantee you, that once you lose the weight, your knee issues will be a thing of the past.

I gained a lot of weight during/after the birth of my daughter many years ago, and oh MAN...my knees were always aching. It took me a couple of years to finally get the weight off, and once I did, *voila*...no more knee pain!

The same was true of a co-worker who suffered with "bad knees". He was very overweight and ended up having weight-loss surgery. When he was within 10lbs of his goal weight, I asked; "How have your knees been?" (I already knew what he would answer.) He said; "They never bother me at ALL now! "

While you're losing, be kind to your knees and do a lot of walking instead of squats, etc. In the meantime, I used to find that massaging castor oil on my knees helped a lot as well. It's also helped the sore knees of many of the friends I've recommended it to as well.

I'm taking the KNOX GELATINE in hopes that it can repair/heal my Torn Meniscus. I dont want to get surgery as my doctor prescribed and cut a piece of my cartlidge off.

So I have a couple of questions that I hope I can get some feedback on...

1) I've started taking the KNOX GELATINE as Ken (Henderson, Nv, Usa) has stated but I just mix mine in water. The problem is, it has really slowed my bowel movements up and made me constipated. Has anyone else had a problem with constipation while taking GELATINE? If so, did you find a way to fix the problem?

I've only been on it for 11 days so far. For the first 6 days I just mixed 2 packets (about 15g) in some room temperature water.

I would mix the 15g of powder with 2oz. of water and then add in another 2 oz. and drank it really fast so it didn't gel too much (I do this 2x a day).

Then for the last 5 days I've lowered the dose and now mix 5g of powder in 2 oz water and mixed it up real good( with a fork I find is best) and then added in 6oz. hot water. It comes out like a liquid with no gelling at all. (I do this 2x a day)

But the thing is, I still feel constipated. My bowels just seem sluggish.

2) Maybe a stupid question but I'll ask anyway...if I use Collagen Hydrolysate/Collagen Peptides instead of GELATIN will I get the same benefit/results?

As I mentioned earlier I'm using this to help heal my torn meniscus. Hoping it can heal and grow back my cartilage that is torn as it did for the original poster, Ken (Henderson, Nv, Usa) who used KNOX GELATIN.

I think I read that Collagen Hydrolysate is easier on the stomach. So I'm thinking maybe the Collagen Hydrolysate won't cause constipation (just a guess by me).

I have been having knee pain for the last several weeks. I think my knee pain is caused from weight I gained. I have used the castor oil and it stopped and came back. I tried the Arnica and it still did not help. I see alot of post that they use the apple cider vinegar. I am going to try it. I start taking the tumeric and ginger about a week but I guess it is too soon to see the results.

There are many supplements giving all those three substances with one capsule. I have chondromalacia patella in my right knee and in the past I had many crisis of pain for days per year to the extend that sometimes I limped badly during deterioration. If I did a deep squat in order to work for some time, then most probably the next day my right knee would hurt. All this are past, no more pain any more, but you have to be patient. The first results are after six months in order for the joints to rebuilt.

Gave it to my mother who has osteoarthritis in her left knee and she had the same good results after six months of supplementing. "Doctor's Best" is a good and cheap brand, but there are other good ones too.

So I've gone thru all these ideas for helping my sore knee. It was feeling very sore (on the side, like a stiffness etc), and I was waiting for it to heal for several days. Instead of healing while walking up the stairs I actually heard it make a tear sound and that was 3 days ago. Severe pain. Tried several things, but decided to use a hemp lotion I have and it is all but GONE. It's just a Hemp moisturizer (that is not the brand name), with coconut oil, sesame oil, tea tree oil, calendula, cammellia, tocopherol acetate (e) and a bunch of other stuff. My point is that it eased the pain and made it more flexible and is healing better. Nothing else worked. I believe it needed the lubricant and I wanted you to know this works.

iodine cured Bad knee.

35 years with bad knee. joint would come off some times. always swollen. applied regular iodine externally three times a day. applied one week on and 4 days off. only the affected part would mildly burn and the knee will feel bug crawling inside the skin. after a week the bad skin looked like war zone. so gave four days break. new skin came after break. started the application again. itch started badly on the knee. applied Tea tree oil over iodine to stop the itch immediately. after 4 weeks knee shape came to look like normal. at this time the effected part squeezed to the size of a quarter. still kept on applying on the affected area and surroundings. pain went away after 3 weeks from the start up of the application. but didn't stop applying. this has been 4 months now. knee is like brand new.

i did switch from regular store available iodine to lugol's iodine after 3 months. started applying iodine to every family member's joint pain and cysts. iodine never failed to cure.

1st I tried BSM remedy for a knee issue but I needed surgery for it. Arthritis was found in right knee and now is in left knee. For a week and some I have been doing the honey-cinn and I positively feel the difference. I have not taken any prescribed meds. for a week. I add 2 teaspoons honey and 1 teaspoon cinnamon and add this to a cup very hot water. I drink this morning and nite. I also love the fact that it benefits me in other ways. I'm glad there's at least one suggestion to use exercise. Being overweight at 61 I've had occasional pain in my knees and, particularly, in my hip nerve from time to time. About 2 weeks ago I started having severe knee pain in my right knee, some in my left knee. The hip nerve thing came back and the pain although concentrating in the knee area was extending to my leg muscles and hip nerve again. It was getting worse each day at an alarming rate and I began wondering whether I should go to the doctor and whether I'd need a cane, surgery (or what?). I even went to my office manager at work and told her that I was incapable of walking down 5 flights of stairs for an emergency at our office building because my leg was starting to give out walking down 3 steep steps of a bus every day.

So I returned to this web site which has been a lifesaver. I tried a number of the remedies (Vitamin C, tumeric/ginger, ACV). Unfortunately they didn't really help. As an aside, I had super results with ACV in losing weight until I had to stop because it was causing my blood pressure to go up. I went to youtube and was very surprised and delighted to find that there are people who have had success with specific exercises for the leg muscles that dramatically help the knee. In my research online I learned that there are a number of different types of knee joint problems so exercising is not always the solution. But the concept is that weak, underused leg muscles allow the knee cap to get out of position causing pain and other problems. There were quite a number of people who wrote that the exercises helped their knees dramatically and quickly. I tried a couple of the "easy" exercises and for me got immediate relief of about 60%. Within 2 days of doing the exercises I'm better 85%. I'll continue to do them because it's a marvelous feeling to get rid of the knee pain and nerve weakness. Immediately after doing the exercises my legs have this feeling of well-being (lasting temporarily) that seems to say, "Thank you, that's the right thing to do. "

Anyway, for anybody else wanting to try exercising, the 2 exercises I liked best were: (1) Standing on 1 leg while you bent and held the foot to your other leg so that your knee was pointed straight to the floor. (2) Bending your foot up and stretching the ankle so that your back leg muscle is stretched. I accomplish this best by standing on one leg and stretching the other leg out behind me while keeping the foot flat on the floor (even bending the knee to stretch the angle of the foot more). Update on my knee pain. Now that I've been doing the leg stretches for 3 days (I've done them every 3-5 hours during the day), the knee pain (plus leg muscle pain) is 100% gone. I'm assuming that it would return if I stop the leg bend/stretches, so I'll continue to do them, just not as often.

I have been doing knee exercises on my bed for at least five years now. I figured if it was good enough to strengthen my knee before knee replacement, it would be good enough to help the other knee so it would not need replaced. I like the leg lift in the air. I like the side leg lift swing. But, knee is acting up now. That is why I am checking out this site. And I am mid-70s.

Grannymelva, I've found a little trick that has helped very well for knees: I walk with my toes slightly pointed inwards, which results in my toes pointing straight ahead, since I used to walk with feet splayed out to the sides.

An easy first try would be Apple Cider Vinegar rubbed into the knee several times a day, or wrap your knee with a cloth soaked in it over night. (Then wrap it with plastic wrap.) Castor oil, topically is also good for pain. It makes me think, "Bone Spur. " I would look up bone spur remedies on this website, too.
