So my husband & I both tried it & we get 8 hrs. sleep each night! It took a few days to kick in, so dont give up.After a few months, I cut back to 320 mg (2 capsules) & it still works. Its been over a year already! I just love, love, love, your website! Thank you!!!!!!"

1 WARNING!
[YEA] 06/28/2009: Jeremiah from San Diego, California writes: "I have found that Melatonin is extremely beneficial in helping me get to bed. This is on top of the Seroquel that I already take, which is dosed at 100mg. I usually start off with 3 mgs. of Melatonin, and if that doesn't help, I take another 3 mgs. (because the supplement that I take only comes in 3 mg. tablets).
The usual recommended dose of Melatonin to start with is 5 mgs., and then take it from there. This is a extremely effective supplement, and I would recommend it first before anything else."

[NAY] 01/24/2009: Melinda from Tucson, Arizona writes: "NAY- I have tried Melatonin and I did not find it to be a good alternative for insomnia. Firstly I am on a antidepressant-Lexapro, and I feel like Melatonin really makes my depression worse, and it's effectiveness was inconstant, one time I felt real drowsy and slept good, another time only slept a few hours then woke up again. My boyfriend's Mom also tried it and said it did not work for her either."

[YEA] 02/29/2008: Cathy from Richmond Hill, Canada writes: "Insomnia: My kids have a hard time sleeping at night. I've struggled for about 10 years trying to put my ADHD girl to bed at night. The older she became, the worse it was, telling me to "get lost" when I came in the room at 11:00 p.m. She would just continue on the computer and ignore me. It was very depressing. I had to sleep so I would just go and leave her alone. Her dad didn't help much. Rescue remedy! melatonin! I bought the chewable kind and used to give it to her when I was totally exasperated at 10 or 11 p.m. Now I give it to her at 8 or 8:30 p.m. and now she jumps into bed by 9 or 9:30 p.m. What a miracle! Why did it take me so long to figure that one out? She was sleep deprived for many years!"

She takes 1 pill (300 mcg.) about 1-1/2 hrs. before bed and has had no trouble falling asleep since the first time she took Melatonin. Also have a 22 yr. old nephew who has had sleep problems for a few years. He takes a larger dose before bedtime - has been falling asleep at bedtime with no problems since his first dose. What a God-send!!!"

[YEA] Rob from Gilbert, Arizona writes: "Melatonin has been a God-send for me. I'm a terrible insomniac, especially on business trip. I don't like druggy meds, so I tried melatonin several years ago. About 20 minutes after taking one I drifted quite naturally off to sleep. Now, I still take them occassionally, but usually just the thought that they're in the medicine cabinet is enough to relax me to sleep! Melotonin induces the body's 'down time' mechanisms which night owls like me tend to inhibit. Now I know to relax, read a book, watch tv, or just 'chill' about 20 minutes before bed, this behavior allows the body to naturally produce it's own melatonin and drift peacefully to sleep. - sleep tight!"

[YEA] Hannah from Vancouver, BC writes: "Melatonin has also been beneficial to me for sleep. I also use at varying times: -lavender essential oil rubbed into my skin (with a carrier oil) spray lavender water in the bedroom -take a "tea" of honey and apple cider vinegar (adjusting to taste) with water. (1/4 cup does the trick). -another idea, is to turn off the electrical things (like tv, computer etc) an hour before bed to allow the body to slow down and let it's natural melatonin do it's job. Turn off the lights and light a candle and have quiet time an hour before bed. Sweet dreams!"

However if I can't get to sleep I will drink a half glass (8oz) of milk, right out of the fridge. {A regular sized glass is about 16 oz.} If that doesn't do it quickly I drink another half glass and repeat until I'm knocked out! Usually about a glass and a half is all it ever takes, no matter how "wide awake" I am. Just for proportion sake, I'm 6' male about 215 lbs. The warm milk we've all heard of is not necessary. Milk contains Tryptophan and calcium, both of which make you sleepy."

NO CELL PHONE OR COMPUTER 2 HOURS BEFORE BED
[YEA] 02/21/2008: Hannah from New York, U.S.A writes: "Don't Use Your Computer/Cell Phone Before Bed (No Texting!!). It's always been hard for me to sleep, and I mean always. But recently I read that a computer's bright lights suppress sleep hormones. I'm not sure if that's true, but not using it before bed sure helps. But then I got unlimited texting and my insomnia was back again. So here's the deal, don't use your computer or cell phone 2 hours before sleeping. It will help you sleep better and better each night."

OIL PULLING WITH SAFFLOWER OIL
[YEA] 01/08/2008: Winnie from washington, dc writes: "I stumbled on your site when searching for side effects for coconut oil. I took coconut oil for about 4 weeks and gained about 10 pounds, I was really hoping for the reverse; anyway I found your site and a lot of good information. I started oil pulling the very day I read about it, I have tried with extra virg. olive oil, sunflower, I didn't notice any real change after just one try. then I tried Safflower oil, did it in the morning just after brushing, then I felt sleepy, I decided to lay down on the couch, and slept for 3 hours; I didn't make a connection then until this morning I tried safflower oil again, same reaction. I slept so soundly, good thing I had the day off today. I'll try it again tonite, looking forward to a great night's sleep. I took 1TBSP for 20 mins. So if someone out there has problem sleeping, this might work for you. TED, whoever you are, I wish you radiant health and prosperity. Your kindness and generousity is written all over your words. Thank you."

[YEA] 09/11/2009: SK from Carmel-by-the-Sea, California writes: "In July I started having a terrible time falling asleep at night. Insomnia, night-time terrors, anxiety, whatever you want to call it, I had it. The minute I lay down, my mind took off on a rampage. I had watch tv until 3 or 4 am, when I finally felt exhausted enough to sleep, albeit erratically, waking up every few minutes. I was drinking a cup of coffee in the morning, but I have been doing that for 20 years now and it has never affected my ability to sleep.
I started researching the net and tried many supplements that people on this site and other sites were recommending like valerian root, sleepy time tea, lobelia, magnesium, b stress. Nothing had any effect. Then I read on this site about Cod liver oil helping someone with insomnia and realized that the only supplement I wasn't taking was an omega 3. I immediately bought cod liver oil at the health food store and took one capsule a day for a week. Unfortunately, I still could not sleep. Luckily my intuition kept telling me to research omega 3 deficiencies further, so I went hunting for more information on the net. I started reading customer reviews of omega 3 on a site and saw that the most popular brand of Omega 3 had much more EPA and DHA than the Cod liver oil I was taking. 400 mg EPA and 200 mg DHA per fish oil concentrate capsule versus 90 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA for the cod liver oil. I bought the higher dosage omega and started taking 1 capsule 3 times a day before eating. I also stopped drinking my one cup of coffee in the morning. Overnight, I kid you not, my night terrors went away and I was able to get 9 straight hours of deep sleep. It's been over a week now and I am sleeping well. What an amazing relief this is. Not being able to sleep was affecting my work and my marriage. I have such sympathy for those with insomnia issues. You become desperate when you can't get a good night's sleep. It is sheer hell. I read that Michael Jackson also suffered from insomnia and that it tormented him so much that he had to take that drug. Poor man, but I get it now.
Hope this helps someone."

POTASSIUM IODINE, MAGNETIC PILLOW
[YEA] 09/18/2007: Laurin from KC, MO writes: "I am writing to say thanks to Ted who wrote me saying that my problem was probably a calcified pineal gland. I have searched for answers to my insomnia for years spent thousands of dollars for both traditional medical and alternative help and only Ted helped me!!!! I know God allowed me to find this answer through him and I want to say thanks to God, earthclinic and many many blessings to TED! After Ted posted the probable cause, I eliminated ALL fluoride from my life (water, toothpaste, mouthwash, etc.). It is shocking how much of this poison has been put into our products as it is present even in health food store brands. I was already applying Potassium Iodine externally (since I developed an iodine allergy, this is only way I have been able to take it.) I also got a magnetic pillow pad which helps sleep but is also said to help the body detox. Now months later I went out into the bright light and did not enter that hyper alert state. Although I also tried the lime juice and ACV drink, I was not faithful but fortunately what I did was enough. To Ted and earthclinic, you are helping many people and offer a great service to mankind. Thanks again and blessings."

1 QUESTION
[QUESTION] 08/12/2009: Tussy from Clinton, Iowa writes: "I woke up at 8o'clock yesterday morning and have been up ever since then. It is now 5am. I was wondering is there anything I can do or take that will knock me out for the night. I tried things on the insonmia page. Warm milk, castor oil on eyelids, lavender and more still no sleep. This has become a pattern for like two weeks. I decided to write because it has never been this bad. I'm not tired though at all. I have very bad acne so I need all the beauty sleep I can get. Any suggestions? I usually get about six hours, I would be happey with that again."
08/12/2009: Hope from Sacramento, Ca replies: "Do try taking 1500 milligrams of L-Tryptophan powder mixed with water - it works like a charm in most cases!"
08/13/2009: Connie from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, USA replies: "Try herbs:
passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)
hops (Humulus lupulus)
valerian (Valeriana officinalis)
skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora)
chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
Don't consume caffeine.
Put two cups of Epsom salt in a tub full of hot water and soak for an hour, then drink 1 teaspoon of Epsom salt dissolved in water.
Take 4,000mg vitamin C."
08/15/2009: Sandy (sandhya) from Bangalore, Karnataka, India replies: "1. Have 1-2 Tablespoons of honey (raw) half hour before going to bed. This should give you good deep sleep.
2. Else, try oil pulling an hour before bed-time using coconut oil. This gives deep sleep.
3. Or drink a tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil an hour before lunch (yes, dont drink close to night, as it will give too much energy and keep you awake.)...at night you will get good sleep.
4. Have some starch in your dinner (eg. boiled potatoes for dinner or late night snacking), it will give deep sleep.
5. Dont go to bed on an empty stomach, the hunger will keep you wide awake. Dont go the bed with a loaded stomach, it will keep you awake and uneasy. Have a moderate dinner.
6. Examine your diet and see if you have added any foods/supplements that are energy giving (eg. coconut oil, turmeric, tea, coffee); if you are consuming these in the evening/night then they will energize you and keep you awake. Shift such foods to morning/early afternoon times, dont consume in the evening/night."
08/15/2009: Rebekah from Athens, Ga replies: "Hi, I learned a remedy in massage school that helps a lot of people with insomnia. My teacher was an acupuncturist, and he taught us that massaging the feet at bedtime will bring all the extra energy (chi) from your head down to your feet, allowing your mind to be clear and sleep can come easily. Start at the heel and stroke towards your toes on the bottom of the foot. Do this at least 25 times each foot. Just a gentle rub, you don't have to use a lot of pressure.Best of luck to you, I know insomnia can be very troublesome!

08/25/2009: Susan from Burnaby, Canada replies: "Try this very simple and very effective. Cod Liver Oil tablets. It should work immediately. Use the 3 a day ones, because I tried using a mega fish oil that you take just once a day and found that I did not sleep as deep. So I switched back to the bigger pills and went immediately back to very deep sleeps."

[YEA] 05/13/2009: Cal from Calgary, AB writes: "I was having problems falling asleep at one point and I resorted to all kinds of things even drinking alcohol, working out hard in the day so I would be exhausted but still wouldn't fall asleep but somehow (don't know how and why) it stopped and I was able to fall asleep. Then I would fall asleep fine but around 2am I would just awake sometimes for no reason sometimes to pee and I would hardly be able to fall asleep again. This happened for months. My eyes would just open and I would like there for hours trying to fall asleep again and no matter what I did it just won't happen. I even got eyebags due to lack of sleep now I want to get rid of them. I had gone to a health store and bought some sea salt - one without preservatives or additives and just sun and wind dried. Somewhere I had read something about sea salt but didn't quite remember what so I decided to try it. Add some to my drinking water and lo and behold that solved the problem. Another thing is I could only fall asleep on my left side so I started developing pain in my left shoulder and I could only sleep in that position. I couldn't sleep on my back or right side or belly but since drinking the sea salts I sleep on my back or right side like a baby. Sometimes i even sleep all through the night and even if I wake up to pee I will fall asleep again. I am sooooo happy. Hope this helps someone. I still take it daily or almost daily by adding about a little to about 1 liter of water - enough to taste it but not be salty. I think I was missing some minerals which the salts provided"

Whenever I wear this mask, I have the DEEPEST sleeps and most vivid dreams. Without the mask, it usually takes me ages to fall asleep, and even when I do, I'm always waking up. I suggest these masks to anyone who has trouble staying asleep. My only concern is that it does such a good job at keeping my eyes in darkness, that I've rolled right off the bed a couple times when waking up, because I'm disoriented and don't realize where I am on the bed. A small price to pay though for some needed sleep!"

SLEEP POINTING NORTH IN ABSOLUTE DARKNESS
[YEA] 02/07/2006: Ricardo from CA writes: "Total darkness allows the iris of the eye to completely relax. Eyes are the only place your nervous system is exposed to the world directly. If you are resting in a partially darkened room, cup your palms over your eyes for a while until it seems totally black. Remove your palms and keep your eyes closed. You will perceive some light or lessening of the black through your eyelids. Closing your eyes to sleep, in any illumination, does not allow complete relaxation. Always use a sleep mask or soft cap pulled over your eyes, doubled if needed, and test with palms over mask to be absolutely sure of total darkness."

[YEA] 08/01/2005: Brad from Wisconsin writes: "Sleeping with your head pointing North can improve the quality of your sleep. Also sleeping in absolute total darkness(no alarm clock lights, no light from the door jam) can have a huge impact on your over all health. It will allow more melatonin release by your body and for a longer period of time during the night, which is vital to living longer and healthier. This kind of sleep quality lifts your levels of attention, energy and motivation, awareness and helps keeping aging down to a minimum."
