[YEA]  Diane from Alabama writes: "I tried several over the counter drug store medicines for my hot flashes and they did not work. First I got off coffee, cokes and sugar. Including artificial sugars. and then I did a candida cleanse and colon cleanse.I do not have hot flashes any more. I also drink lots of water and include vinegar in my water everyday."

[NAY]  07/27/2011: Florida Deb from Palm Coast, Florida, Usa replies: "OK: I just read a number of posts and ran into the kitchen and ingested my first 2 tablespoons of ACV (with lemonade: yow! ) and am basking in the glow of a warm tummy hoping that this will alleviate some of the hot sweats that are nearly debilitating. I also suffer from the severe hot sweats and freezing chills, which make me feel ill a lot of the time. I've tried progesterone/phytoestrogen creams, herbal black cohosh pills, to some avail, but not much. I noticed a marked increase in hot flashes, as did others, after eating sugars, salt, caffeine, chocolate, or any junk foods, which thank God I rarely do.

Thank you for sharing your experiences out there! I don't feel quite so insane! I'm going to increase my exercise even more, add more water to my already 3/4 gallon a day, take ACV, and perhaps some Bach Flower- Walnut remedy, if ACV alone doesn't quite do the trick. I'm a massage therapist and want to keep working, sweat free! God bless you, and take the best of care!"

07/29/2011: Hotvirgo from Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada replies: "Regarding ACV: what type of cider, how much, how often, when to take?"
07/29/2011: Kaluki from Victoria, Bc, Canada replies: "Acupuncture has been very helpful in treating my temperature fluctuations, as well as fatigue, aching bones, stomach pain, and moodiness. I go to the student clinics, which are less expensive, and I find the students gentler and more willing to listen than the fully credentialled acupuncture doctors I've seen. Although that was just my experience. Unlike Western allopaths, alternative practitioners take a much more inclusive history, so expect to spend more than 15 minutes. Caution: acupuncture is not an overnight cure; it is a healing journey. And yes, sometimes it hurts, so clear communication is vital between you and your practitioner.

I only wish I'd realized what an amazing effect acupuncture would have six months ago -- I could have gone back to work months ago! :) I've been going at least twice a week, where possible, and I believe that if a person is going to try it out, that s/he should probably commit to enough time/sessions to give it a fair trial.

Good luck to you!"

[YEA]  08/12/2011: Earthystuff from Nicholson, Ga replies: "Well, think about it! For how many years have our elders been telling us that an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Well what is ACV but pure apple. The best you can get is Bragg organic with the mother in it! You want the mother, thats the real good stuff. You can find Bragg at health food stores! I started using ACV for the flu I had real bad and almost had to go to the hospital. ACV 2-3 times a day pulled me out of it. It is actually reccomended for many problems. Sinus, congestion, weight loss, acid reflux, ect... So I am not suprised to find it for hot flashes. I just take a big ol swig out of the bottle or use a shot glass and chase with lots of water. I still dont like the taste but I dont like to be on any medications that I dont have to be on. The taste doesnt last that long. I have had night flashes after I pee off and on for a couple of years and now they are coming in the day. For many years now after finding this site I have been reccomending it to many people for many things. My friends husband has gout.....ACV!

You can google ACV and find many sites that give you all the uses or you can just look here. Earthclinic has been my doctor now for a while. I always come here first before going to the doctor if I know what the problem is. It is an immune booster plain and simple and it wont hurt you! I can even take it on an empty stomach which is saying a lot.

Namaste"

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR AND BAKING SODA

YEA

[YEA]  10/06/2007: Alice from Lincoln, CA writes: "I was feeling very bad in many different ways (mostly from anemia) when I found your site. The most pressing problem I was having was high blood pressure and water retention that had come on quite suddenly and was making me feel like I might explode. The DR gave me meds, of course, they really weren't working (avg BP 160/95 with meds)and I thought I should try other methods rather than have him raise the dosage, and besides, why was I suddenly having this problem?

I had tried ACV along with my mother many years ago when I was a teenager to help with winter athritis and sore throats, but I had forgotten about it. So after reading about it on your site, I immediately started by having 2tbls ACV 1/4tsp baking soda and a little agave nectar for sweetner in a mug of hot water. Within a couple hours of my first mug I was up and about feeling better. My grown son could not believe the transformation. He happened to come by for a visit right when I was drinking that first dose and I changed right before our eyes. I'm so glad he was here to see it so I know I'm not imagining things. I continued using it at least twice a day. The first night I felt so good in my skin, it was wonderful. It took several weeks to get off the BP meds, I had only been on them several weeks before starting ACV so I think I had not become dependent on them. Other people should be very careful about changing their BP meds, DR should monitor this. The water retention problem got better and better each day and finally disappeared after a couple weeks. Last BP check at DRs was 135/85, not bad.

Amazingly, and without me expecting it, my hot flashes that had appeared with a vengence at the same time as the high BP, completely disappeared at that first mugful. It took me a couple days to realize it, but I have not had one since, not ONE hot flash since, and they were rolling in just about one an hour, and believe me they were very thoroughly HOT.

I very patiently waited before writing in to you, and it is over 5 months later now, and I have my mug once a day or more, even while staying away from home (I have been sad to leave organic ACV behind in hotel rooms because I don't know of a good way to travel with it by air). I believe my digestion is better and elimination more regular though I would not have said before that I was particularly troubled in that area. It helps my overall sense of well-being. I can certainly tell if I haven't had some for a day-- I just feel off without it.

I have to add, though, sometimes my ACV doesn't sound good, it kind of hits my stomach funny, gives me a hollow feeling, and sometimes I feel like it heats me up, not quite a hot flash, but not desirable for someone who's had too many hot flashes. I don't know what this aversion is all about, but I manage to make myself have some, even if just a more diluted version of it and in cooler water. I am always glad that I did. After reading more, I think I will try the baking soda in water alone, or the lemon juice with baking soda in water next time the ACV just doesn't sound good.

Thank you so much for this site. I am determined to continue trying things until I feel like I remember I once felt--really well and useful."

11/11/2009: Kolokea from Vancouver, Wa replies: "I use vineger and baking soda to unclog my kitchen sink. Vinegar is an acid you pour it down the sink that is plugged and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then you add the baking soda and this causes a chemical reaction. The vinegar and soda start to fizzle and break up the clog in the drain.

I have never heard of using the two to cure hot flashes. What will this do to my system over time?

I started getting hot flashes two years ago. I went to a health food store and they recommended Proestergin Cream. I checked it out on the computer and it seemed to work for a lot of people. I used the cream for 3 days and noticed immediate relief. After taking it a week my hot flashed when away. After some time I learned when I could miss or when I needed to increase the dozes. I went for a whole year without hot flashes. Now the cream isn't working for me. I have switched brands and gone from Yam extract to Soy extract...nothing works any more.

I will try the ACV tonight, wish me luck..."

I have not slept for 2 weeks now,so I will try the acv for sure. I did try it many years ago for stress and I had alot of energy. I felt great, I would put 2 teaspoons of avc and one tablespoon of pure honey with one eight ounce glass of warm water. It is really not too bad to drink.

And for a UTI try one to two capsules of cayenne, the other morning I woke up at 3 in the morning with the urge to go. I never wake up in the middle of the night to got to the bathroom, and I thought to myself aw here we go again, another UTI infection. I had some Cayenne capsule so I took one in the morning and drank water all day. I took another one before supper with more water, well that was the end of that. I had been cured the same day.

My daughter told me about this site, it is great.

BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  12/21/2010: Carolyvette from Raymond, New Hampshire writes: "I have been drinking a homemade ginger-stevia-acv mix and my hot flashes are still present but much lighter and last a minute or two. My night sweats are gone. Have been drinking as many as 4 glasses per day. Trying to drink as much as 8 glasses per day in hopes my hot flashes will go completely away. Ginger adds a wonderful tasting crispness. The mixture is quite pleasant to drink, better than drinking just Apple Cider Vinegar with water and honey. I use raw green stevia. Add 1 gallon of water to a large pot on top of the stove. Take a palm size piece of ginger, peel and grate. Using a hand held blade mixer is best. One you would use to mix individual drinks. Put this grated mixture in one gallon of good water, along with 1 heaping tsp. of green or white stevia. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium and let simmer for 15 minutes. Let cool and using a funnel and ladle pour back into the gallon container. When cooled, put ice into an 8 oz. glass and fill 1/4 to 1/2 full, add water to top off, then add 1 to 2 tablespoons acv. You can put more or less water or Apple Cider Vinegar depending on your taste. Enjoy and good health. Oh yes and do use Braggs ACV. It is available in most stores. Green stevia is bought in health food stores in bulk. :)"

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES

[YEA]  07/19/2011: Kalki from Mumbai, India writes: "My friend was recommended Bach Flower Remedies for her hot flashes - at least 30 in the daytime, hardly 2-3 hrs of sleep due to hourly hot flashes - of very severe intensity. She was given Walnut, Rescue Remedy and White Chestnut initially. Within 3 days there was a difference in the number but not so much in the intensity. After 2 weeks, when she ran out of the remedy mixture, a review was taken and Oak given as it was indicated by her reaction to the hot flashes - that is, one should buck up and carry on and not be deterred by it all. She is a reliable person and gets more than her fair share at work and within the extended family. Scleranthus was also added as she went from cold to hot within seconds and had mood swings also.

It worked miracles. She is free of hot flashes for the first time in 4 years. It's been a month now and she has been advised to continue for at last 2 months before seeing if she can discontinue them. I've since looked it up in the Net and books and find Walnut on its own is usually good enough. But my friend also needed her character remedies.

Please don't go in for HRT or other therapy for want of an alternative. These remedies are supposed to be very gentle. I thought I would pass on this info on behalf of my friend."

[YEA]  12/17/2011: Laura from Houston, Texas, Usa writes: "I am a 42 yr old female w/ blood type A . I have tried soy products and organic ACV to eliminate hot flashes that I have experienced for the last 5 years or so, with little success. The only thing that completely has gotten rid of them has been replacing ALL polyunsaturated oils in my diet, like vegetable, canola & sunflower oils, with organic, unprocessed coconut oil. (I still eat a little uncooked olive oil occasionally). I have not had 1 hot flash in the last 3 months that I have been using it and that is a record for me! Be sure to get the Extra Virgin Coconut oil! Yes, it is a saturated fat, but it turns out this type of saturated fat does not clog arteries or make us fat as previously thought. It also has given me great energy and better sense of well being. I still eat the naturally occuring fats in fish, raw, unroasted nuts & avocados, but have replaced EVCO for all other fats, including butter. A little EVCO on an english muffin with honey or jam tastes amazing! I have also eliminated soy from my diet."

[YEA]  05/14/2011: Flower Grandma from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada writes: "I had night sweats for more than ten years and finally last summer they stopped completely, as well as my monthly period. I was very happy to move on with the next phase of my life, but earlier this year the hot flashes came back with a vengeance. I was undergoing a series of tragic circumstances in my life and I would have a never ending rolling wave of heat from the moment I put my head on the pillow until 6:00 the next morning. I thought that stress had caused them to come back and I tried ACV, iodine, vit E, GABA, borax, Dim Plus and every other cure I could find. When reading through the latest posts several days ago, someone mentioned about D3 and hot flashes and I finally made the connection.

Earlier this year I read an article about the dangers of too much D3 and I decided to cut out my supplementation which was at the same time all these events began. For the last couple of days I've been taking 5000iu morning and night and I've had only a couple of flashes in total. I'll be reducing that to one a day once the flashes are completely gone. Thanks to all the contributors to this wonderful site, you've helped me with many wonderful changes in my life."

This makes a lot of sense too for those in menopause. Without their monthly periods, women start accumulating more iron and whatnot in their bodies. Perhaps that leads to the hot flashes because their bodies are not used to it."

IODINE

SIDE EFFECT

[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/20/2008: Sarah from Washington, DC writes: "Hi. This might help somebody: I have a weird condition where any iodine-rich food or salt sends me into weeks or horrible, debilitating hot flashes. Avoiding iodine-rich substances makes them eventually go away, though it is hard to avoid iodine, so it sometimes starts up again. I have tested this reaction many times and it is consistant. When I'm having a reaction, taking a very low dose (12 to 50 micrograms) of thyroxine (like Synthroid) usually helps get the reaction under control within a week. I've been to a couple endocrynologists about this and none of them understand what is going on, except that iodine apparently shuts down the thyroid temporarily and it may be that mine isn't starting up again properly after too much iodine. In addition to the hot-flashes, my symptoms are more like hypo than hyperthyroidism, so maybe that's why the thyroxine helps.
Be healthy."

At that point the quantity of lumps was lessened but then a couple of them enlarged and were really sore. I then changed over to Iodonol tablets (iodine/iodide) and now the cysts are getting smaller and for the first time since I can remember, my breasts are beginning to feel like they are supposed to. My hot flashes have lessened also, which is curious and I wonder if the iodine is the reason."

I tried pretty much everything on the market for menopause/hot flashes, including Promensil and other herbal remedies, hormone creams, visits to mainstream doctors (who wanted to put me on the pill!! ), naturopaths, etc. without any help or relief.

It was getting so bad that I was having what felt like one lo-o-o-ng hot flash. It just wouldn't let up! (Anyone who deals with this knows just how incapacitating it is! )

I started taking 2000 mg omega 3s and added some B6 500 mg for arthritis. While I didn't see a big difference for the arthritis, I realized that my hot flashes had finally stopped. To find out if it really was the omega 3, I quit taking it for a few days, and sure enough, the hot flashes were back.

This has been a Godsend and I truly hope this info helps someone in the same hot boots!

Thanks for the great website too!"

Also, when one takes therapeutic doses of Omega 3's, it is advised to also increase Vit-E up to 800 or more iu's daily to protect the fragile unsaturated fats from free radical damage."

Then one week i didn't take it everyday because I forgot and now it doesn't seem to be helping any. I started taking black cohash and it doesn't help at all. It started working again and very well, but I noticed every three or four months that it would not work 100 %. The one really great think about pine bark extract is there are no known side effects and it is a strong antioxident. Anyways so every few months I would have about three weeks of mostly no hot flashes, just occasionly would get warm. After about a year I upped my intake to two pills per day. Worked wonderful for a good year at least. I am now going through actual menapause I believe, since I haven't had a period for about five months. Pine Bark still works amazingly well, but here and there I will get a hot flash. Decided to up it to three per day because I don't want to have them at all. I figure my body is going through the severe change right now. So three a day is working well, just having an occasional semi flash! Still swear by this stuff, since no side effects."
