Apple Cider Vinegar for High Blood Pressure
Folk Cure Ingredients
- Apple Cider Vinegar - 1 Teaspoon
Taking the ACV tonic 2-3 times a day can significantly lower your blood pressure. Start with one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a large glass of water and build up to one or two tablespoons. Add honey or other natural sweetener for taste.
[NAY] 12/30/2009: Ken from Jerusalem, Israel: "I had been borderline high B.P. (145/85)for a number of years. Recently my B.P. really shot up (170/95) -could be because I haven't been feeling well for the last few weeks. Based on what I read on this website, 10 days ago, I started taking 2tbs of ACV 3 times a day. I've been taking organic, unpasteurized, naturally filtered ACV (it doesn't say "with mother" on the bottle but its got that cloudy look with the stuff floating in it). I've been taking it with 8oz of lemonade because I can't stand the taste.(Is it OK to mix ACV with lemonade?) Unfortunately, I haven't seen any improvement. I was wondering if I should give up or give it more time. Other people seem to get immediate results. I was also wondering if it's ok to take it with lemonade. Lastly, I want to know if it makes a difference if you take the ACV after you eat or is it better to take b4 a meal/on an empty stomach. Any advice would be greatly appreciated."Replies
01/28/2010: Nickieb from Ruislip, Middlesex Uk replies: "I started using Apple Cider Vinegar with mother two weeks ago for arthritis. Four times a day I take 1/3 mug apple juice, 2/3 hot water with 1 tabsp vinegar. Tastes very acceptable rather like lemonade. You could make with cold water but it's winter here and this is comforting. In the last few days I've also tried adding a teaspoon of Blackstrap Molasses. Put that in mug first and then 2/3 fill with hot water to dissolve before adding apllejuice and vinegar. It's really nice and more importantly it has helped the arthritis no end. Scarcely any hip or knee pain after the first couple of days; still have some stiffness but haven't really started exercising yet so that could be the reason and solution.
Also I have dabbed ACV neat on skin irritation which stopped after a few minutes. This occurs from time to time and I can't figure what causes it except maybe chlorinated water.
I've noticed quite a few people on this site snivelling about the taste of ACV. Maybe they're not hurting enough but they should find a recipe that works for them. Take less at a time and do more often, whatever, because it's brilliant. Can't remember how I found this site but I'm so glad I did and thank you all so much. Nickie"
[NAY] 03/12/2010: Dee from Oakvile, Ontario, Canada replies: "Did you continue with the acv? Has your bp come down and how did you do it? I'm desperate for a way to reduce my bp naturally. Have been taking 2tbsp 3x/day for one week now with no result. Does it take time in some cases?
11/08/2011: Rose from Psl, Fl replies: "I too like randso(at)hotmail(dot)com have not had any good results with ACV and BS. I just started leaving the BS out because I felt the sodium was making it worse. So far I have taken 1 1/2gal of ACV & BS over approx 6 mos 1-2TBS with 1/2 tsp BS... To my dismay BP 157/91 I was taking this home remedy for fibroids, but I also knew I had HBP. To my understanding there can be other deficiencies that cause this. I also have hyperthyroidism (not on meds) The HR was working great for the cysts/fibroid pain. Now I'm not sure what to do because of HB."
[YEA] 12/20/2009: Ben from Athens, Oh: "Hi Everyone,
I am 24 and was diagnosed with high blood pressure about a year ago. I haven't changed my diet but I did try meditation and breathing techniques which helped a little. My blood pressure was generally 135-155/90-70 with readings averaging to 145/85. I just drank 2 Tbs. of organic apple cider vinegar with 5% acidity straight. When I woke up this morning my blood pressure was 140/80, but 40 minutes after drinking the vinegar it was 116/70. I will have to check into the effects of ingesting so much acid if I am to do this regularly. I will also start diluting the vinegar so that it doesn't wear away at tooth enamel."Replies
12/29/2009: Matte from Kalamazoo, Mi replies: "I have recently started drinking the organic apple cider vinegar w/mother and have started to see results within a few weeks (numbers changing from 140/104 to 134/97) better, but not as good as others have seen (I am a vegetarian who eats pretty healthy and exercise regularly). My question is as to whether or not the ACV supplements works as well as the liquid, as I really do not enjoy the taste of the ACV, even with organic honey and juices for flavor. Is one better than the other or would a combination be best (alternating between the liquid and the supplements)?"
12/17/2009: Cardinalfan4life from St. Louis, Missouri: "I'm starting the ACV. I put 2 Tbps in 8oz water w/a little bit of honey. It's the one w/Mother,undisstilled. I'm in danger of losing my job due to high blood pressure neglect. I don't want my family to have to suffer for my stupidity. I have tried my 4th BP medication now, and I need a blessing right now. Please pray for me and my family. I will be doing the same for all of you. Thanks!"Replies
01/06/2010: Sharon from Wahiawa, Honolulu replies: "I too suffer with high blood pressure. However, i am taking medication from my doctor until i can find a remedy that really works!! i do believe that acv, garlic, cayenne pepper will work if you take them together reducing your sodium intake. Pls do more research. However, GET MEDICATION from a doctor in the meantime. high bl. pr. can lead to stroke or worse. Better to be safe than sorry."
12/04/2009: Renate from Hilton, Ny: "I like the info I've read here regarding ACV in lowering blood pressure. Is it important to drink the ACV in water?I actually like the taste of ACV alone. Is there added health benefit to drinking it in water? Won't it work in lowering hbp if drinking the ACV alone without the water? Someone please reply. thank you, renate"Replies
12/31/2009: Annoval from Powder Springs, Ga replies: "I just started taking the ACV (2tsp in water twice a day). Are there those who are allergic to it? My sinuses are giving me fits today."
11/19/2009: Stephanie from Burnaby, B.c., Canada: "Hi Thanks for this wonderful web site, I am your devote reader and supporter of most of your remedy. My father-in-law recently just have a big operation of removing the stomach and part of the esophgeals due to the cancer situation and also the lymph grand around his chest. He now depend on his duodenal and intestine to obsorb nutrients. He used to have a history of high blood pressure and slightly high blood suger level. His blood pressure has been really high (200/115)for the last few weeks and the doctor found him has edema too (swelling) Do you think I should let him try apple cider vinegar? and will that cause problem to his intestines because he has no stomach to neutralize the acid.
If I cannot add baking soda to the apple cider vinegar because of the sodium, do you think I can add other thing like magnesium and still can lower his BP? Thanks for the opportunity to post here. Hope that you can help him. He is 82 years now and its sad to see him suffer like this.
[YEA] 06/19/2011: Captain Jack from Englewood, Florida replies: "Just to clarify the ACV, I researched it and it is strange but in the bottle it is acid but when it goes into the body, it turns alkaline. I have an acid problem and HBP. After a week on ACV both problems have greatly improved."
[NAY] 11/15/2009: Tony from Monroe, Nj: "I read everyone's feedback on how ACV lowered their blood pressure and was so impressed I went out and bought 2 bottles. Took 2 tsp 3 times a day for 3 weeks and it did absolutely nothing to lower my blood pressure. My pressure is still approximately 150/95. I am so disappointed. I truely thought after reading everyone's comments that I finally found a natural remedy that would work. I would love to hear from others that also experinced the same as me and if there are any other natural remedies. Was it perhaps something I did wrong? Should I have given ACV more time to work?"Replies
11/15/2009: Benjamin from Newberg, Or replies: "The reason it didn't work is probably easily explainable. Did you buy Heinz "Distilled" Apple Cider Vinegar? If so, you bought the wrong product. The key to ACV working is a raw, undistilled product which contains a "mother". That is, a slurry of weird looking goo in the bottom of the bottle. It is a collection of long chain amino acids and other stuff which has all the healing effect. Think of it as bio-drugs."
12/02/2009: Xddy4u from Jacksonville, Florida, USA replies: "You can't take apple cider vinegar and expect it to do miracles. Stop eating all that high sodium foods, then take your ACV, and you will see a difference. You want something that will allow you to "pig out" on all foods, and lower your blood pressure, all at the same time, ACV is not for that."
[YEA] 10/22/2009: Ned from Atlanta, Ga: "I read your comments this morning and decided to try ACV out. I have had HBP since my mid teens. Been on medications for 15 years now. My last medication wasn't working. I have been averaging 155/108. I took ACV today all three times and checked it this evening, 120/82. I am amazed! Talk about impressive results! Thank you all for your helpful posts!"Replies
10/24/2009: Grace from Vancouver, Canada replies: "Seeing so many positive response for ACV dealing with high blood pressure, I am telling my husband that he should really give it a try. We do have a question regarding when to take the 2T of ACV, 3x/day, is it before or after meal? Or does it matters at all? Can anyone doing the ACV kindly reply. Thanks!"
11/02/2009: Megan from Warner Robins, Ga replies: "In response to Grace from Vancouver. On a routine basis you would use 2 teaspoons full up to 3 times a day. The 2 tablespoons would come in say if you were sick with the flu or trying to fight off something. As with any detox start out with low amounts and work up from there. Some people report taking it before a meal to aid in digestion/weight loss. I have read many times it is recommended in a 8oz glass of water that you sip through a straw throughout the day. I usually take 2 teaspoons in water and the last few days have started adding BSM in warm water with ACV once in the morning. Three weeks and I am starting to feel like a new woman! I have also had success with regular store brand ACV. Hope this helps."
02/15/2010: Teresa from Galax, Va replies: "Please tell me what "bsm" stands for : )"

[YEA] 10/22/2009: Lori from Laurel, Ms: "My blood pressure had gotten to be in the high 140/100 ...give or take a few fluctating points daily. I read your site because I didnt want to be put on medication. I wanted to try an alternative route to lower my blood pressure. I tried apple cider vinegar (regular type from grocery) and no change. I purchased a natural acv with the mother and my blood pressure was lower within days of using this. I drink 2tsp in a glass of water about 3x per day. It has also curbed my appetite for sweets and other junk foods. I have lost about 20 pounds in less than 3 months doing this. I have told everyone about the apple cider vinegar and encourage you to try it if you have high blood pressure. It tastes bad the first time or two but after you get used to the taste i actually like it."
[YEA] 09/26/2009: Lourdes from Covina, California: "I started taking an 8oz cup of hot water with 1 tbs of acv before breakfast for three days and my blood pressure went down from 138/89 to 111/66, that is amazing, I have been taking medicine for the last 8 years and never experienced any thing like that, except with my green juice that I drink every day; consisting of spinach, celery, cucumber and banana. I started drinking this because I heard it was good to lose weight but I never though it was good for high blood pressure. I just happened to be inquiring about the benefits of ACV when I found you site and I think is fantastic. Thanks very much for all the information. Sincerely, Lourdes"
[YEA] 09/23/2009: Pretzle from Greenville, Sc: "I'm 39 a smoker and recently discovered that my blood pressure was 166/105. I had taken a reading a couple months ago and it was 143/95. I started taking ACV with Mother in it just last Thursday. By Saturday I was getting readings back around 140/90. By Monday I had readings of 125/83 and 130/84. I was taking it at different times throughout the day with a cuff a friend loaned me. I'm really glad I found this site as I was able to pass a physical I had to take in order to renew my license. I'm of course continuing to take ACV at 2 tbs 3x a day. I'm not exactly sure why it works but have heard that ACV was good for detoxifying your body anyway so I figure it can't hurt."Replies
10/25/2009: Hpagan from Hoboken, New Jersey replies: "I keep reading all the benefits regarding ACV with mother? Which ACV is best? And what is Mother? I keep reading drink ACV with Mother in it??? Please help?"
10/28/2009: Karin from Escondido, Ca replies: "the brand of the acv you want you will find at whole food stores. We cannot post the actual name but the name has a mother in it."
10/28/2009: Babs from Altoona, Pa replies: ""the mother" is the natural slimy stuff in the vinegar that gets filtered out in most apple cider vinegar sold in grocery stores. What you want is organic, raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar as it has most of the natural properties. You can find it in health food stores and sometimes the organic sections of grocery stores. It is much more cloudy than the filtered kind, and there is stuff floating in it when you shake it up."
08/14/2009: Jim from New Hope, Alabama: "I have been taking bloodpressure medicine for fifteen years and want to get off of it by taking vinegar. Does anyone know how to accomplish this without endangering myself by quiting my prescription too abruptly. thanks Jim"Replies
02/10/2010: Maydell from Terre Haute, In, Us replies: "How has anyone stopped their medication? Do you continue with it while taking acv or stop taking your medication and just monitor your blood pressure? Also, the research I've done says acv contains e.coli. Is acv dangerous? Please help me with my concerns. I am a mother and I'm trying to lower my blood pressure. Thank you."
05/10/2010: Rtuna31 from Fort Worth, Tx replies: "Have dealt with doctors with my high blood pressure. their medication took away my sex drive ...started a regimen of raw garlic ...acv...and multi-vitamins and apple a day ...girlfriend loves me for newfound vigor..."
[YEA] 08/08/2009: Suzi from Missoula, Montana: "Good Morning, I posted awhile back about ACV and the awesome tutoring school year I had with elementary kids and NO COLDS, RUNNY NOSE, SORE THROAT, COUGH for me! Well now I must spread the word about what it has done to my blood pressure. Had a mandatory limited physical last week and I gritted my teeth as the cuff went around my arm but lo and behold my BP was down 20 points!! I told the doc I was on ACV for over a year and and she said she had heard about it's benefits and even read a book about it. So.....wow....needless to say I am a very happy camper!"Replies
[YEA] 08/12/2009: Rin from London, Uk replies: "ACV and BP: Started taking ACV about 9 months ago. I had my BP checked yesterday and Im thrilled that my BP has gone down from 140/82 to 122/64 since it was last checked just prior to starting ACV. Thank you Earth Clinic"
[YEA] 07/22/2009: Susan from Santa Clarita, CA: "A few months ago I went to the doctor for my annual physical. I was shocked to find out my blood pressure was 146/90. I am not overweight and eat a vegetarian diet. My doctor immediately wanted me to start me taking BP medication, which I refused to do. I found this site and started on the ___ACV; 2 tbs in water 3x day. By the next day my bp was 120/80. I went back for a follow up visit to my doctor a few months later and my BP was still 120/80. When I told the doctor why it was normal, she totally dismissed the idea, and said it "must have been some diet change", which it wasn't. I don't really care what she or the medical establishment think, I know it works. I now only take 2 tbs in water once a day and been able to maintain a normal BP. Thank you Earth Clinic!"Replies
07/27/2009: Calvin from Raceland, La replies: "use organic or one at supermarket,, can one convert supermarket to health store type by some to store one and how long to leave, cap on or off? thanks"
11/08/2011: Rose from Psl, Fl replies: "Forgot to say one thing whenever my BP is high my right eye is blood-shot very bad. The Dr first said it was high cholesterol causing it when it didn't go away he said it was my BP and gave me BP meds... I have tried every natural remedy I can find and still have the problem. Really thought alkalizing my system would fix all the problems. Only thing I can say is I lost a lot of weight. No health insurance... Just want to be well."
[NAY] 07/10/2009: Ron from Roland, Oklahoma: "Greetings:
I am rather perplexed by the use of ACV. I have been taking an ounce a day for three years now. I've read where it has helped many people with regulating their blood pressure. I have been using the "most popular brand" of ACV which I purchase at a local health food store. To my dismay, my blood pressure runs around 150/100.
I am 6'2", 270 pounds, mostly muscular in build, don't drink alcohol, don't smoke, eat normal 2000 calorie/day diet, work in a relatively stree free environment, no kids, great marriage, take a variety of vitamins/minerals such as: Vitamins A,C,B-complex, Hawthorne, garlic, cayenne pepper, cinammon and a multiple vitamin for the trace elements. I also take a prescription medication for my BP. Yet, my blood pressure still runs high.
If you would be courteous enough to email me a respone and give me your opinion as to what I may be doing wrong to control my blood pressure, I would truly appreciate it!
07/22/2009: Noels from Wolverhampton, UK replies: "Hi Ron. Have just read your request for more info regarding the ACV dose. You say you have been taking 1oz per day! 1oz=2 tablespoons. The recommended dose to start with is 2 tablespoons in an 8oz glass of water with a teaspoonful of honey to make it more palatable 3 times per day. This is what I took to get my BP down and then on to the maintenance dose of 2 teaspoonsful in 8oz water 3 times a day. It worked form my BP is now around 120/79. Hope this helps. Noels"
11/07/2009: Joe from Red Bank, New Jersey replies: "DO you have anger management issues? Also, you say normal diet. The typical American "normal" diet is a terrible one. I'm guessing you may need to add more greens to your diet. Specifically green juices if you can...they work wonders on your blood pressure."
08/03/2010: Kat from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "I doubt you have anger managment issues if you have a basic stressfree life; however, diet is everything. Make an appointment with a nutritionist, and remove all processed food from your diet, no canned food, no boxed food and certainly - no fast food of any kind - seriously. This will reduce your salt intake considerably. Also do not salt the food you cook until it's gets to your plate. Your taste buds will hate you for about a month but once you get used to no salt - you will never go back!"
07/27/2011: George from Andover, Kansas replies: "Hi Ron, If for some reason ACV doesn't work after some adjustments as suggested check out the latest studies on Beetroot juice from England. I know this is an ACV blog but beetroot juice is natural and I hope thats what everyone is after -something that works and is natural-good luck."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 07/10/2009: Marve;Gor; from Cleveland, Ohio: "ACV and HBP: I have been dizzy for two days and not sure why. I took ACV and got temporary relief. I went to the Urgent Care due to no hospitalization and had BP taken 138/80. Nurse said it was normal, only my lower number has never been higher than 70. In the morning I drank some ACV in water and felt OK then went about my day. Around 4:30 p.m. Dizziness got worse and I almost passed out. Just barely made it home driving about 4 miles. After lying down for about an hour I took more vinegar and now I feel better. I guess it works. I will continue until I see my Natural medicine professional. Thank you for the confirmation. Any comments are welcome."Replies
07/13/2009: Jarocho2003 from San Diego, CA replies: "You could also be suffering from vertigo, which could be due to anxiety or stress? Check the section for vertigo and stress anxiety to see what else you can be taken."
07/13/2009: Jeanne from Raleigh, NC replies: "I have had diziness issues as well as a racing heart and I think they have to do with reaction to food or drink. I have yet to figure out what food or artificial flavor or preservative it is that causes the diziness but am starting to narrow it down. What helps me is to eat animal protein like chicken or turkey in large amounts. It takes 1-2 days to get over the diziness, but I feel better."
08/30/2009: Dennis from Port Saint Lucie, Fl replies: "I would like to comment on the dizziness with BP. I know that headaches are my first line symptom that my BP is up. However when I stabilize my BP and still have headaches or get dizzy then I know that it is time to change my prescrition glasses. I wear the progressive bifocal lens. I have read other comments and I am more or less satisfied but no one has mentioned checking your vision. I do not know if you wear glasses or not but an eye examination can tell you a lot about your health. Good luck"
09/23/2009: Pamm from Alabaster, Alabama replies: "The main reason people get relief from Apple Cider Vinegar because it has Potassium in it. Potassium is what regulates our blood pressure. You may be only getting temporary relief because you need more potassium. Low Potassium can cause your dizziness, with alot of other symptoms that you need to look into. Google Low Potassium Symptoms and see if this is what your experiencing. I have been dealing with the dizziness as you for a year & I found out by going into hospital it was Low Potassium, I was drinking too much water & too much salt and in return it was lowering my potassium alot. I had bad dizzy spells. But once I eat the foods that have Potassium in it and lowered my salt somewhat I am fine now. So goodluck & take in more Potassium.."
03/03/2010: Mugs from Washington, DC replies: "It may not have been your blood pressure, ACV will lower blood sugar too, I had that problem at first, dizzy and weak after taking it, checked my blood sugar it was 67 so I ate something when I took it from then on, so check to see if it is lowering your blood sugar too much.."
