Apple Cider Vinegar for High Blood Pressure
Folk Cure Ingredients
- Apple Cider Vinegar - 1 Teaspoon
Taking the ACV tonic 2-3 times a day can significantly lower your blood pressure. Start with one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a large glass of water and build up to one or two tablespoons. Add honey or other natural sweetener for taste.
11/29/2010: Debbie67 from Loachapoka, Alabama: "Does the Apple Cider Vinegar you use have to be organic or "mother" ? can Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar benefit you also? my blood pressure has been extremely high lately 200/100 and I have recently started taking vitamins as a means to eliminate some much medicine. And what benefit does it have with lemon juice, or should I use real lemons?"Replies
03/19/2011: Phstmla from Edmond, Ok replies: "I have 40 hrs to lower my bp 40 points both hi an low. Are there temp but immediate results if I take apple cider vinegar? How much do I take? Thanks"
[SIDE EFFECTS] 05/06/2011: Umm from Madina, Saudi Arabia replies: "I take ACV sometimes just for the health benefits. I do not have high blood pressure. I notice I feel very tired sometimes and dont know what it is. I was tested for diabetes but it came out negative. Anyway, 2 weeks ago, I was too lazy to measure out 1-2 TBS of the ACV to be drank with apple juice, so I just poured it in the juice and gulped it down. It must be up to 3-5TBS. 2 days later, I went to the doctors to get my monthly prescription of iron capsules as I was diagnosed with anaemia. It turned ut my BP was low. And this explained why I used to be tired. SO, I'm assuming the "overdose" of ACV I take sometimes is the culprit. I was told to eat more salt and lie down with a pillow under my feet for a short time everyday, for the blood to be able to flow to my head. The tiredness has reduced greatly. But I have stopped taking ACV except for topical use on my hair and my skin."
05/06/2011: Diamond from Salisbury, Ma.usa replies: "I would think that it be mentioned that any one with low blood.......... Or anemic or even having lack of iron should be very careful of taking ACV very small dosages or none at all. Also I found that 90% of iron pills have isopropyl alcohol in them which will thin the blood, so read all ingredients(labels)before mixing other items, or even considering taking them. We are our own advocates, our safety and wellness is up to us. I read things then go on to other messages as they may have additional information we all need, or just fits your needs. Meaning what you take I may be allergic to it ok? good luck"
02/12/2012: Mandy from Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada replies: "About 12 years ago I felt lethargic. Always tired and sleeping approximately 16 to 18 hours in a 24 hour period. I often complained to my doctor about it. Had blood work done and I seemed to be very healthy. One day after telling one of my neighbors she mentioned that I could have sleep apnea. Long story short, I did have sleep apnea and my blood reading for B12 was extremely low and needed to go on weekly shots. They were extremely painful for me. After complaining about the pain, they came out with B12 in tablets at 1200 micro grams. I now take these and I am a normal human being again. But the thing is sleep apnea can cause you to have a stroke. So do go see your doctor and ask him for a B12 blood test. It should be at the very lowest 140. I was at 110. Also get checked out for sleep apnea. You cannot overdose with B12 at 1200mcg. You will pass all exess in your urine."
[YEA] 10/02/2010: Hiroshi from Tokyo, Japan: "ACV has saved my life. It lowered my blood pressure significantly and helped reduce the amount of times I get sick annually. My coworker introduced it to me and I have drank it religiously ever since. Now, I only drink water, ACV, coffee and craft beer in that order. No more soda, juice from concentrate, sports drinks or any other sugary crap. I feel great now because of it, too! ACV 3Xs a day to keep the doctors away!!!"Replies
11/15/2010: Knyck from Pasig City, Philippines replies: "Can I add ACV on Blackstrap Molasses? Please advise the correct mixture. Regards, Knyck"
09/11/2010: Awler from Lagos, Nigeria: "Hi TED, Can You or anyone else help me here? I've been on HBP medication for close to 3 years and considering trying the ACV stuff, here everybody is talking nice about ACV but I would like to know if ACV actually offers Cure (hope of coming off prescription medication) or its only an alternative therapy that has to be continued routinely(daily) for lifetime like the drugs?"
[YEA] 07/14/2010: Scott H. from Pacific Grove, CA, USA: "I am a 36 year old male and I have been taking raw, organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar for two years. I started taking it with distilled water and honey. But after a few of my ACV friends reported to me how they take it, I was converted. Here is how I have been taking my daily dose of ACV. I take a regular 2 ounce shotglass and I fill it to the brim with ACV. I pour that into an empty 16 ounce drinking glass. Or use whatever size drinking glass you like. Then, I take some apple juice and pour it in on top of the ACV and fill it to the brim. Then I drink it over the course of about ten to thirty minutes. I am 6'4" 300 pounds. I was 380 when I started drinking ACV and my blood pressure medication has been cut in half and still dropping. For my wife and smaller friends I tell them a half of a shot glass. If I don't have apple juice, I use cranberry juice, grape juice or even coolaid. I do not use any acidic juices such as orange or lemonaid because it gives me heartburn when used with ACV. Hope this helps, I sure notice a big surge in power when I take this stuff this way, mentally and physically. Thanks for reading. Scott Harriger"
04/18/2010: John from Stellarton, Ns Canada: "What side effect comes with APPLE CIDER VINEGAR using on a daily basis? At present i am on medication for blood pressure, can i take Apple Cider Vinegar? How long does it take to see effects?
EC: Hi John,
Our apple cider vinegar side effects section is here: http://earthclinic.com/Remedies/side_effects.html#ACV
04/18/2010: Sazie from Birmingham, Alabama replies: "After reading this information, I found a bottle of store-bought ACV. It is made by Whitehouse and says "natural" on the front. The bottom was full of a dark substance, and when I shook it, there were bits floating around in it, and it looked cloudy. Does this mean it's organic? It does not say "mother" or "organic" anywhere. Please let me know. Thanks a lot!"
04/22/2010: Deirdre from Atlanta, Ga, Usa replies: "Hi Sazie,
I have seen the Whitehouse brand of apple cider vinegar sold at most grocery stores. It appears to be about the same as Heinz re quality. Quite inexpensive. If you try it, be sure to compare it with an organic brand that you'd find a health food store. Oh, and be careful to start slowly with acv as it can cause bad heartburn, depending on the brand you use.
Let us know how it works out!"
04/27/2010: Jenny from Ojai, Ca replies: "It is best to use a organic apple cider vinegar to get all the natural benefits of the product. One made by conventional companies found in a regular grocery store will be filtered and processed and thus has all the good "stuff" removed from it. Go with one bought at a health food store. The reason it is cloudy and there is stuff at the bottom is because it has not been filtered or processed. Just make sure you shake the bottle first before using the vinegar. The results are amazing."
05/09/2010: Sazie from Birmingham, Alabama, Usa replies: "Thanks for your replies. Jenny, the thing is the Whitehouse IS cloudy and has stuff at the bottom. That's what I don't understand because that's the way you describe the organic!!"
05/13/2010: Sazie from Birmingham, Alabama, Usa replies: "Hey, maybe the Whitehouse I had was old. I bought an organic "mother" acv, and it's just cloudy, no pieces in it, nothing but cloudy. Is this the way it should look?"
05/14/2010: Alfred from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Raw Organic ACV.. it depends what part of the barrel it comes out of.. Some of it is cloudy with nothing floating and others have a lot of crud in it. What the "Mother" is.. Is the crud that is left over after they make it. Someone gave it a fancy name, so the customer would not complain that there was dirt floating around in the ACV.. Its all good for you..
05/14/2010: Sazie from Birmingham, Alabama, Usa replies: "Thanks Alfred! I did notice, after it had been sitting awhile, that there was some residue on the bottom. It also said to refrigerate, and I haven't noticed that mentioned on here."
08/12/2011: Elaine from Edmond, Ok replies: "I was told an inexpensive way to make organic ACV is to buy a gallon of the super market distilled stuff and add a tablespoon of organic ACV and let it stand for two weeks. I did that and now the stuff floating in it is slimey. I know this sounds gross, but like a booger. Is that okay?"
12/15/2011: Barbara from Oxford, In replies: "Regarding non organic ACV versus organic... I always assumed one of the main reasons organic is so important to use is the high levels of pesticides found in non organic apples, which I would expect translates to high levels in the vinegar as well."
04/06/2010: Diane from Windhoek, Khomas, Namibia: "Please help! I am reading all your great comments about ACV but I live in Africa (Namibia) and cannot get it here. Is there anything that can substitute for ACV? I have just been diagnosed (170/100) and am really shocked because although I am 62, I have been vegetarian for 45 years, don't use salt, exercise and am not overweight. Of course, the doctor wants to put me on meds ASAP, but there must be other treatments. Has anyone tried meditation? Any advice will be so welcome! Thanks, Diane"Replies
04/14/2010: Debbie from Okanogan, Wa replies: "Hey Diane, I had high blood pressure, and I use garlic, it raises low pressure and lowers high, you do start to smell, but who cares, also I eat alot of flax seed and oil. Hey if you have apples you can make your own ACV there''s websites on how to, also B___s ACV you can order on line, thats the best, it still has the mother in it, lots of Vitamins and minerals, very very good for you, ttul Debbie"
[YEA] 12/29/2010: Kat from San Diego, Ca replies: "I struggled for years with high blood pressure and medications were not very effective and I hated the side-effects. I found the solution in drinking plenty of water throughout the day (at least 1/2 my weight in ounces) and I take approx. 1000 mg of magnesium per day, 700 of it at bedtime and I also take hawthorn supplement, just one a day, and a low dose of melatonin at night--usually about 2.5 mg. I will vary the melatonin and not take it every single night but will skip a night now and then. Wonderfully successful results and I feel so much better!"
05/24/2011: Geoff from Dubai, Uae replies: "Apple cider vinegar (ACV) should be readily available in Windhoek or get your local health shop to bring some in from South Africa where you can buy it in the local supermarkets, it is made in Cape Town."
03/09/2012: Mmc from Emigrant, Mt, Usa replies: "Approaching the HBP problem from a seemingly different angle, if you seaerch "Buteyko" you will find the work of a Russian who concluded that the issue is caused by excess oxygen taken in by excessive and erratic breathing, which oxygen then becomes free radicals, highly destructive.
The body creates HBP to stop it from burning up from excess oxygen. Compare it to a deep sea diver who has to carefully monitor his intake of CO2 and oxygen. Similarly do we. there is much reading and practices one can do to heal HBP thru correct breathing- not "deep breathing".
I understand that ACV works because the hydrogen protons in it [ pH is best understood as "hydrogen potential power for the number of protons available for dealign with oxygen] .
So increase your hydrogen to counter oxygen, and/or reduce your breathing to where it ought to be, and the need for the body to manifest HBP and many other conditions will vanish.
Manage your breathing and it will drop 40 points quickly."
03/15/2010: Dee from Oakvile, Ontario, Canada: "I have been drinking 2tbsp ACV/3x per day for 9 days now. Notice some change in my evening BP but my morning reads are scary. This morning it was 156/102 (upon wakening) in the evenings (after 6) I'm averaging 135/85. I know that BP upon wakening is usually the highest (most heart attacks happen in the mornings probably linked to this fact). I really don't want to go on meds. Note: I've been using honey, maple syrup or splenda brown sugar to sweeten the mix.
Any suggestions as to why I'm not seeing results? Does it take some time (i.e. 2 or more weeks) in some cases? Discouraged when I read some people seeing immediate results. Has anyone else experienced a longer response time? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks"Replies
03/16/2010: Lynda from Brisbane, Australia replies: "Have you tried the usual natural methods eg reduce salt in the diet and exercise daily, 1hr walks a day, yoga, listen to relaxation tapes. Look at family history, if there is a link I would suggest a full cardiologist check up. The risk of Tia's is increased with High BP. Frequent TIA's increase the risk of Vascular Dementia. Good Luck Lynda"
EC: Tia = Transient ischemic attack or a mini-stroke
04/07/2010: Diane from Windhoek, Namibia replies: "Hi, thanks for the great post. What protocol are you following? How much, how many times a day, straight or diluted in water?"
05/13/2010: Pat from Hunlock Creek, Pa replies: "To Dee- my husband has sleep apnea, but his bp was always higher in the morning, you might want to check that out I hope this helps"
06/05/2010: Sabita from Port Of Spain, Trinidad replies: "hi i just read your post, my mom had the same experience, it was however a growth on her adrenal gland, diagnosis through a blood test, these tests are not routine, however my doctor was researching possible causes of high bp and decided to do the test ,it was positive...hope this helps ...god bless"
[WARNING!] 12/10/2010: Grayfox88 from Colorado Springs, Colorado replies: "Stop using splenda! I believe Splenda is chlorinated sugar. Go read about it. If you don't want chlorine in your salt, you sure don't want it in your sugar."
[NAY] 03/13/2010: Dennis from Port St. Lucie, Fl: "Blog Readers
I must say that I am very disappointed in saying "No" to the ACV treatment for high blood pressure. The information was first given to me by my son, who has has seen a dramatic reduction of his HBP with the ACV with mother treatment. I have studied all the N/Yay's blogs on the subject hoping that it can prove to be a success for me.
This is my giving conditions. HBP 140/90; before meds of 10mg amlodipine, 10 mg Bystolic. (note the current meds reduces HBP (130/80))
I started with the regular store bought vinegar which did no show any results. I then consulted with my son and began usint the ACV mother. It appeared that within the first two weeks of use after re-cleansing or detoxing from my meds that I was feeling fine. Thus my confidence level was rising. I continued using the ACV and then bought larger 32fl oz bottle.
I have learned over time experimenting with different meds, and having done two colonoscopies to determine my gastroencyphlytic(esophageal) spasms to modify and manage my food intake. I say this to give background knowledge on the significance of proper diet and my awareness of food intake, which aids any ailments of the body.
Knowing this I was able to regulate my diet very well with the ACV; however when I bought the second 32fl oz with mother I began experiencing headaches, which is also a symptom of rising blood pressure. The headaches had started to increase at higher frequencies and lasting much longer. It was becoming unbearable, I took my BP with my home equipment and my HBP 150/94. I started to panic and was getting anxiety attacks. Luckily my wife always store the whole cranberries in the freezer to boil and make cranberry tea to minimize and relax the anxiety attacks. I immediately started to retake my meds.
It appeared that the headaches were not going away so I had an emergency visit with my family care physician. MY blood pressure was high HBP 152/96.
I got back on my meds and in two months have a follow up visit.
Although the ACV did not work for me I, would suggest that the readers of this blog follow up and monitor their condition should they notice a change.
Secondly I hope my message will encourage new readers that would like to try ACV to take good notes, understand their symptoms of HBP realizing that ACV may not bring the positive results they are searching for.
03/20/2010: Naturalone from Stillwater, Mn, Usa replies: "Hi Dennis, I just wanted to comment on your post. You mentioned that at first, the ACV appeared to be helping, but then quickly took a turn for the worse. When you mentioned esophageal reflux and anxiety, I immediately thought Magnesium. In addition to the hypertension, both of these conditions can be directly related to low Mg. levels. Not to mention that your medications also contribute to Mg. wasting.
I'm not suggesting that you ditch your meds, but I would highly recommend that you consider adding Mg. into your daily routine.
With blessings of health & happpiness,
[YEA] 10/30/2010: Christina from County Kerry, Ireland replies: "Hi , I was just following up on your idea about Magnesium , and high blood pressure, as my HBP has rocket ted in the last few months. I had changed my diet, cutting out alot of different foods (I went Paelo) to see what might be triggering my multiple inflammation problems. So I thought I would do a search on Magnesium rich foods, which turned out to be most of what foods I had cut out, such as beans and soy products! Within 24 hours my blood pressure had come down, just adding 1/4 teaspoon of Epsom salts to the cider vinegar bicarb mix, which I try to have three times a day. Also it has cured the constipation that has also been a problem recently. I have been trying to keep protein down to a minimum and it is very interesting how little you really need. Christina"
01/25/2010: Diane from Brightwood, Va: "If I want to start using ACV for blood pressure problems, what do you recommend regarding my medicine I'm on? I realize you can't give me medical advice but I wondered what other people have done."Replies
02/16/2010: Maydell from Evansville, Il replies: "Has anyone replied to your question about taking medication while taking acv?"
[YEA] 01/24/2010: Marie from Mountain View, Ca: "Yesterday a friend of mine brought her bp kit to work -i took the test and hello...177/98~! last night started on the acv and took it three times today. went out and bought a bp kit and it is 133/83!!! YES!!!! Nobody can tell me any different - ACV WORKS!"Replies
06/22/2010: Stephen from Edmonton, Alberta Canada replies: "First I would like to say that I strongly believe in ACV as a home remedy for many ailments/ conditions including high blood pressure.
I am even building a website about it and am currently working on a page dealing with high blood pressure.
What I would like to add to this string is that 1 or 2 tests will not confirm or deny that it is working. Your BP will change up or down many times during the day. It is not a constant.
Apple Cider Vinegar will help high blood pressure but you need to take it daily for at least 3 weeks. Results over several tests should be done before you can confidently say that it has helped.
Also, and this may be the cause of many "nay" votes, vinegar WILL NOT AFFECT high blood pressure caused by heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, or other complex diseases.
Most importantly, if you are currently on prescribed medication, do not stop or reduce your medication because you decide to try vinegar. See your doctor first. (S)he may decide to reduce your medication while you are taking ACV but that is a medical call and not one to be made without the proper knowledge."
[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/02/2012: Sunshine from Buffalo, Ny, Usa replies: "Can somebody help me? I have read many posts, blogs, articles about the benefits of apple cider vinegar. I have been taking _____s apple cider vinegar diluted in water, but have stopped because each time I ingest apple cider vinegar (any vinegar, actually), my pulse increases (can literally hear my heart in my ear, if I lie on the left side), I have some sort of digestive problem: difficult swallowing/burning sensation near stomach. My diet has not changed at all.
Are there people (or me) who have some sort of negative reaction to vinegar? Should I take with fatty food/food? (I have gone back and forth with food, same results). I seem to also have this problem with certain foods; cabbage (palpitations/swallowing difficulty-lesser degree), broccoli, caffeine (of course), and a few others."
01/03/2012: Timh from Louisville, Usa replies: "Sunshine, it appears your gallbladder is very constipated w/ stones, and/or you have a liver prob. Do a 3 day gallbladder cleanse and you should get your digestion back AND feel much better afterwards. And if you've never done a colon cleanse, it is recommended to follow the gall cleanse w/ a colon cleanse as they each need the health of other.
My 2 cents, and good luck. Post your results."
01/03/2012: Sherri from Houston, Tx replies: "I also have a reaction to ACV. After a few days, I start to burn. It seems that it's my urine. I thought I was getting a yeast infection, but it wasn't. It always starts to burn when I take it. I'm going to try it again, but with a smaller amount and work up."
05/05/2012: Sherri from Fargo, Nd replies: "Make sure you are using apple cider vinegar with the mother - you can't use the other processed ones - they are not the same thing."
09/26/2012: Joe from Sarasota, Florida replies: "I am new to this site and am thankful that I found it. This is my second day of using av and will give it much hope for my hbp and cholesterol. I must tell everyone how thankful I am to have found this site. My hopes are that our world leaders see how easy it is to share with one another, like you all are, instead of taking for selfish gain."
11/20/2012: Franko from Perth, Australia replies: "High Blood Pressure/Aloe Vera- My blood pressure is around 150/100 for too many rears already. And I am refusing to take medications.
After reading some advice on your site, regarding the combination of Aloe Vera, lemon, honey helping to reduce high blood pressure, I used it as recommended for one month. (Every morning one or two sticks of Aloe, a hole lemon, honey on an empty stomach, I did add one banana every time). It made no diffrence in my blood pressure at all. It did no harm at all either. Franko"
[YEA] 01/21/2010: Robert from North Richland Hills, Texas, Usa: "Just yesterday (1/19/10) I discovered your site. I have been experiencing high blood pressure in recent weeks. I read about the organic apple cider vinegar with mother being able to control HBP. I have some that was in the cabinet for salad dressing use. I took 2 TBSP at about 3 PM and by 4 PM I checked my pressure and it was 123/71!!! I was elated. I checked again after dinner and it was 121/73. I took 2 more TBSP just before bedtime and slept better than I have in months. When I woke I took the BP and it was 119/70!! I'm a true believer and am on the ACV program for good. BP has been in the 120s/70s all day today too. Thank You Earth Clinic for all the valuable info."Replies
02/15/2010: Teresa from Galax, Va replies: "Please tell me what "mother" stand for in your post. I saw it in another post from someone else also. I am confused on that part : ) Thanks! I sure hope this works for m : )"
EC: Best description about the "mother" is from the Bragg web site:
"Natural ACV should be rich, brownish color and if held to the light you might see a tiny formation of "cobweb-like" substances that we call the "mother." Usually some "mother" will show in the bottom of the ACV bottle the more it ages. It never needs refrigeration. You can also save some "mother" and transfer it to work in other natural vinegars. When you smell natural ACV, there's a pungent odor and sometimes it's so ripened it puckers your mouth and smarts your eyes.
[YEA] 02/20/2010: Teresa from Galax, Va replies: "Hi! Thanks for your responses to my question, I went to a Whole Foods market yesterday and bought a bottle of ACV with Mothers and WOW! That is a pungent smell, bout knocked me on the ground!!! lol
I took 1 TB straight and chased it with OJ and then water. Boy that stuff is STRONG. I took my BP 2 hours later and was soooo happy, it was 123/75, I was elated! It is usually in the 140/85 range. I eat very healthy and workout every week so I have been so bumfuzzled as to why it stays in the 140 range. Anyway I am so thankful I found this website!!! Thanks!!"
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 05/17/2012: Dolly J from Chicago, Il replies: "I am a 67 years old female. I am on three bp medication a day. I take my blood pressure everyday and it averages between 127-145/77-82. I consider this high and try to monitor by taking Apple Cider Vinegar with honey.
It does help to lower it. When you are adding baking soda to it, I would say be careful. I have acid reflux and have to be careful about the intake of acidity. Never go off or change your medication because you feel better. There could be other underlining issues.
If you are on blood pressure medications, follow your doctor instructions and don't assume that ACV will do the trick. Be careful with self diagnosis."
[YEA] 01/08/2010: Barry from Shawnigan Lake Bc, Canada: "Dear Earth Clinic, thank you so much for posting so many positive comments regarding Apple Cider Vinegar! I recently had my first bout with Gout, and ACV scored an impressive knockout! I had been taking a diuretic for high blood pressure and in my initial research I learned that my medication could be contributing to my gout. It was new years eve and I couldn't get out to see my doctor until the following monday (4 days later) I found your website and learned about ACV. I knew we had some as my wife had asked me to purchase some for home made salad dressings. It wasn't organic with "mother" but rather a typical commercial brand "pure" ACV. Beggars can't be choosers and with nothing to lose, I decided to give it a try. I followed the instructions on your website and began to take 2 tbsp with water, tomato juice, etc. Within 12 hours the swelling crested and within 36 hours I was about 80% better. I was completely cured within 5 days. My Doctor confirmed that my medication could contribute to gout and was very impressed with ACV as a remedy. I decided to read up a little more about the benefits of ACV for my high blood pressure. Well, it's been 9 days now and with my doctors blessing, I've weaned myself off my medication. I've purchased an organic brand with the "mother" (available at most specialty grocery and health food stores) and I'm happy to report that my blood pressure is steady in the 122/80 range and is lower now that when I was on the medication (135/88). Thanks again! Like the oldtimers, I've started to take it straight up (with an apple juice chaser) I have more energy and am continuing my daily routine of 1/2 shot glass 2-3 times a day as I attempt to shed 40 lbs over the next 6 months. It's the miracle I've been looking for and I'm telling the world! Cheers!"Replies
01/11/2010: Barry from Shawnigan Lake Bc, Canada replies: "Hello Phoenix, I've been using the organic ACV with mother for the last week now. Prior to that I was using store brand pure apple cider vinegar, and not distilled pure vinegar. My first 2 gout treatments were 2tbsp store brand acv, 1 tbsp honey and 1 cup warm water. Then I moved on to canned vegetable cocktail (I referred to this as tomato juice) 8oz with 2 tbsp heinz acv. I used this combination for approx 4 treatments. Feeling much better and with improved mobility, I went out on Jan 2 and purchased organic acv with mother. At this point I moved onto approx 1/2 shot glass (2 tbsp) acv with 2 oz apple juice chaser and have continued this treatment 2-3 times daily for maintaining my newly lower BP. I am approx 40 lbs overweight with most of the weight around my belly. I find the acv helps with my digestion and curbs my appetite. I'm excited about this new discovery and all the side benefits. I don't have sweet cravings, I've just been a little undisciplined about serving sizes and the weight has slowly built up over the last 10-15 years. My wife is a gourmet cook and she's vowed to cut back on the salt in preparing our meals and I've vowed to reduce my portions and eliminate fast food, soda and prepared desserts.

[NAY] 12/30/2009: Ken from Jerusalem, Israel: "I had been borderline high B.P. (145/85)for a number of years. Recently my B.P. really shot up (170/95) -could be because I haven't been feeling well for the last few weeks. Based on what I read on this website, 10 days ago, I started taking 2tbs of ACV 3 times a day. I've been taking organic, unpasteurized, naturally filtered ACV (it doesn't say "with mother" on the bottle but its got that cloudy look with the stuff floating in it). I've been taking it with 8oz of lemonade because I can't stand the taste.(Is it OK to mix ACV with lemonade?) Unfortunately, I haven't seen any improvement. I was wondering if I should give up or give it more time. Other people seem to get immediate results. I was also wondering if it's ok to take it with lemonade. Lastly, I want to know if it makes a difference if you take the ACV after you eat or is it better to take b4 a meal/on an empty stomach. Any advice would be greatly appreciated."Replies
01/28/2010: Nickieb from Ruislip, Middlesex Uk replies: "I started using Apple Cider Vinegar with mother two weeks ago for arthritis. Four times a day I take 1/3 mug apple juice, 2/3 hot water with 1 tabsp vinegar. Tastes very acceptable rather like lemonade. You could make with cold water but it's winter here and this is comforting. In the last few days I've also tried adding a teaspoon of Blackstrap Molasses. Put that in mug first and then 2/3 fill with hot water to dissolve before adding apllejuice and vinegar. It's really nice and more importantly it has helped the arthritis no end. Scarcely any hip or knee pain after the first couple of days; still have some stiffness but haven't really started exercising yet so that could be the reason and solution.
Also I have dabbed ACV neat on skin irritation which stopped after a few minutes. This occurs from time to time and I can't figure what causes it except maybe chlorinated water.
I've noticed quite a few people on this site snivelling about the taste of ACV. Maybe they're not hurting enough but they should find a recipe that works for them. Take less at a time and do more often, whatever, because it's brilliant. Can't remember how I found this site but I'm so glad I did and thank you all so much. Nickie"

I just started leaving the BS out because I felt the sodium was making it worse. So far I have taken 1 1/2gal of ACV & BS over approx 6 mos 1-2TBS with 1/2 tsp BS... To my dismay BP 157/91 I was taking this home remedy for fibroids, but I also knew I had HBP. To my understanding there can be other deficiencies that cause this. I also have hyperthyroidism (not on meds) The HR was working great for the cysts/fibroid pain. Now I'm not sure what to do because of HB."
[YEA] 12/20/2009: Ben from Athens, Oh: "Hi Everyone,
I am 24 and was diagnosed with high blood pressure about a year ago. I haven't changed my diet but I did try meditation and breathing techniques which helped a little. My blood pressure was generally 135-155/90-70 with readings averaging to 145/85. I just drank 2 Tbs. of organic apple cider vinegar with 5% acidity straight. When I woke up this morning my blood pressure was 140/80, but 40 minutes after drinking the vinegar it was 116/70. I will have to check into the effects of ingesting so much acid if I am to do this regularly. I will also start diluting the vinegar so that it doesn't wear away at tooth enamel."Replies
12/29/2009: Matte from Kalamazoo, Mi replies: "I have recently started drinking the organic apple cider vinegar w/mother and have started to see results within a few weeks (numbers changing from 140/104 to 134/97) better, but not as good as others have seen (I am a vegetarian who eats pretty healthy and exercise regularly). My question is as to whether or not the ACV supplements works as well as the liquid, as I really do not enjoy the taste of the ACV, even with organic honey and juices for flavor. Is one better than the other or would a combination be best (alternating between the liquid and the supplements)?"
12/17/2009: Cardinalfan4life from St. Louis, Missouri: "I'm starting the ACV. I put 2 Tbps in 8oz water w/a little bit of honey. It's the one w/Mother,undisstilled. I'm in danger of losing my job due to high blood pressure neglect. I don't want my family to have to suffer for my stupidity. I have tried my 4th BP medication now, and I need a blessing right now. Please pray for me and my family. I will be doing the same for all of you. Thanks!"Replies

However, i am taking medication from my doctor until i can find a remedy that really works!! i do believe that acv, garlic, cayenne pepper will work if you take them together reducing your sodium intake. Pls do more research. However, GET MEDICATION from a doctor in the meantime. high bl. pr. can lead to stroke or worse. Better to be safe than sorry."
