[YEA] Gispa60 from Nashville, Tennessee, U.s.a. writes: "I developed a heel spur, went to see a foot specialist where they took a mold of my foot and then I was supplied special insoles. I was told up to six months I could have the insoles adjusted free of charge. Close to the six months' period, pain returned right in the center of my heel. The insole had a slanted heel.

I figured really how much can they change the insole, so I started reading online. For one thing I read that calcium, magnesium and phosphorus are needed by the body in certain proportions. It so happened that a while back I had broken three ribs and had been taking extra calcium supplements which I believe ended up creating an imbalance. I happened to have a little bottle with some liquid phosphorus on hand from a treatment for TMJ from way back when. I tried some of the drops and started to feel relief. So I went on line and ordered ionic phosphorus. And this has taken care of the problem. I now take it sometimes, just a little tsp. when I feel my heel is becoming sensitive again.

[YEA] Kristie from Chattanooga, Tn writes: "Recently I started taking Lysine as an immune booster because I have severe allergies. I have had plantar fasciitis since January 2011. It has gotten to the point where my foot feels broken the first few minutes I get up in the morning. After that it mostly feels like a severe stone bruise most of the day. If I sit for awhile and then get up, then I have to stretch it back out again to be able to walk.

Well the day after taking Lysine I got up that morning and was not crippled. It just felt like the stone bruise. I have been taking Lysine for a week now and my foot is feeling 90% better! I'm not sure if it is the Lysine but it's the only thing I am doing differently. I thought I would pass it along so someone else could try it.

Derbychick77 from Mayfield, Ky, Usa writes: "About a week ago I was playing softball and as I was running something popped in the arch of my foot and stopped me from continuing. It was more painful than the ligament I tore in my knee earlier in the year. I can't seem to bear any weight on my heel. It feels like a deep bruise. I was diagnosed with heel spurs several years ago but haven't had any issues with them in the past 5 years. Since the injury last week I have tried epsom salts, baking soda, ACV soaks and making a paste of turmeric and castor oil and sleeping in it. None of which seems to have helped. Both feet are now swelling from the ankle down and I can feel them tingle as they swell. Ever since they told me I had heel spurs my feet and ankles swell especially when I'm up on them for a long time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] Michael from Boston, Ma writes: "i just want to share the experience I have had with heel spurs and the success I've had with some of the advice here. I could feel hard, linear growths or spurs, perhaps calcifications, under my right heel. Very sore to push on and I could feel them rolling a bit under my thumb. There were times in the past 2 years when I could not walk properly or without pain. Perhaps connected to this I developed an injury under the pad of my right foot near the middle toe probably due to favoring the heel area. Then I developed a plantar's fasciitis in the same foot so that the whole underside was practically paralyzed with pain.

I am a 48 year old lifelong athlete with a regular yoga practice and feel like I'm in good health. This was debilitating and I could no longer do many of the things that were fulfilling for me. I read that rest was the only thing to do and tried to rest and ice the foot while trying to stay active. That really wasn't successful.

Then out of frustration I turned to the web and found this site. In just a few days I have seen incredible change. I purchased msm and have been taking 1000-2000mg hourly with no negative side effects, 1000 mg of magnesium daily, 1000 mg b1 several times a day. I have added calcium, I had been taking none. I have been taking 5000iu vitamin d3 daily, sometimes more. A good b complex as well as a good multivitamin. I have also ben drinking apple cider vinegar with some baking soda. Physically I have been applying an apple cider vinegar, baking soda and molasses soaked pad overnight and during the day in my shoe. I have been massaging regularly with coconut oil and applying arnica afterwards. I have also tried some massage with castor oil. I have been doing band stretches on the foot pulling the toes toward me and pressing back against the band. And lastly I have done some weak bleach solution soaks on the foot. In 2-3 days I can feel the area smoothing out and the pain is diminishing.

This is a first report and I am excited by the prospect of fully healing. I realize that I was probably deficient in calcium and magnesium and will make permanent changes there. You can do this with some determination and hands on massage of your own foot. you have to move through the soreness to begin to generate blood flow and healing, breaking down the scar tissue and buildup in the tissues.

Place your well foot to the wall, move the sore foot away from the wall-behind you- until you feel a good streach in the back of your leg stretch and release, stretch and release, do this 3 or 4 times, the next day do the same thing, you probably will not notice any change except you can move the sore foot back farther each day, keep doing it everyday, soon the problem will be gone, and you will have no heel pain. They come and go, but currently I have had extreme pain from one for almost a year. In the past, my podiatrist could help with cortisone, inserts, brace, therapy, etc. , but no luck so far this time. One thing that has helped is freezing a soup can in the freezer. When frozen, roll the sole and heel of your foot back and forth over the inflamed area, and this does provide some welcome relief for a while. I do it for about 20 minutes every evening. Good luck!
[YEA] Liz from Scranton, Pa writes: "I understand well how terribly painful heel pain can be. It has recurred three times for me, the second time lasting for two years. I had tried countless remedies, orthotics, and devices with limited help. There have been times when I have left my full grocery cart in the store-- not able to stand or walk another minute. Walking from the parking lot into work took everything I had, and often I would use crutches to spare my poor heel. My active lifestyle seemed over. Then, while researching the benefits of deep tissue, self-message, I came across a book on trigger points therapy, that describes the use of a small super ball (35 mm, smaller than a golf ball/one of those knobber things works too) for rubbing around on the bottom of the foot either standing or sitting but with weight on it. The book explains that knots in deep thick muscles of the foot are the cause of the condition that shortens the fascia along the bottom of the foot that in turn causes spurs and other irregularities in the foot's anatomy.

The process is simple: stand or partially stand with as much weight as is bearable on the small super ball under the foot. Roll the ball around from the front of the foot to heel and from side to side DEEPLY, paying special attention to the area directly in front of the heel pad. THIS WILL BE PAINFUL. LIGHTEN UP TILL IT IS BEARABLE. The author describes that it should "hurt so good". This is what is needed to reach the offending trigger points and release them. This should be repeated 4-6 times a day or as often as is convenient. Also, just to the inside of the heel should be deeply messaged with the thumbs as well. I did this for three days, and the pain I thought I would be living with for the rest of my life completely went away! A year later when I felt the first dull ache starting, I again resumed this message, and the pain was gone the next day. Now at least once or twice a week, I use my super ball to prevent the condition. Really works! Just a word about the book: Search on Amazon using "trigger points" There are countless descriptions of self-message techniques that work for relief of pain.

TED'S REMEDY FEEDBACK

Ted from Bankok, Thailand writes: "PLANTAR FASCIITIS (heel spurs).

This is a painful condition where bone growth (spurs) occur in the heel and can be very painful. But it can also occur in the sole area also. As for me these growths are more related to a long term problem in the past caused by toe nail fungus as it enters deep into the bone, where its growth inside the bone causes the growth of spurs. Bacterium and various pathogens are found in those areas and such surgical procedures to the area will create a new spur growth in the same area as they are living organisms and grow anaerobically.

The best remedy for heel spurs is 2000 mg of MSM taken hourly for 6 hours for about two weeks. Then you should experience major reduction in pain, roughly 50 to 80%. The MSM works similarly to H2O2 therapy, only that MSM goes much deeper in oxygenation killing off these anaerobic pathogens that grows inside the bone. Hence, because of its ability to go deep into the cells giving more oxygen, especially the bone, MSM is helpful against arthritic pain, bone spurs, bone growth, which causes pain, especially around the joint area. It won't significantly normalize bone growth and you need other supplements along with this, including magnesium (preferably magnesium chloride, or trimagnesium citrate, being my favorite) and some vitamin D, preferably 5000 mg, and perhaps some fish collagen, after the pain has been reduce of course, by killing off the organism that causes bone spurs. Large doses of B1 thiamine, in particular thiamine mononitrate. It's the mononitrate portion that has some antifungal properties against this that also kills the bone spur, but the dose required maybe fairly large, such as 1000-2000 mg a couple of times a day. The healing is seen after they are dead, after supplementing for about a month, through the use of vitamin D 5000 i.u., every other day, plus collagen supplements, preferably fish collagen, but in Thailand we have a delicacy, ox's tail soup, which is also rich in collagen, but pig's feet is also high in collagen also. Other collagen promoting supplements, which holds the bone matrix in place includes, proline, glycine, and lysine is seen as helpful and raising the immune system, to fight off existing pathogen is supportive, such as threonine. Most amino acid supplements such as lysine, proline, glycine, threonine for immune system dose is between 500 mg to 2000 mg. The preferred dose being 1000 mg, a couple of times a day, preferably three times a day. These help healing. Most pain is seen to reduce using MSM, but DMSO is possible also, but the dose taken for DMSO is much more limited then MSM, and hence MSM is preferably use. Notwithstanding it's ability to oxygenate deeply into the bone is seen as helpful against bone cancer, due to their anaerobic fermentative properties and may reduce that should the bone growth be of cancer causing and will turn them from malignant to benign one at that.

He said to get myself a good pair of supportive shoes and wear them all the time, both indoors and out. I bought a new pair of good runners for outside and a pair just for inside. It felt funny wearing shoes in the house, but I kept it up and within two weeks the pain had lessened and within a month it was completely gone! Who knew that the cure would be so easy? I have suffered acute heel pain caused by a condition described as heel spur since 2004.The treatment which has given me 99% relief was very simple which unfortunatley was introduced only in 2009 by a sports medical specialist.

The person needs to wear a night brace on the foot for a period of time. I wore it for one month before i coild see any improvement. The nigh brace is available in large pharmacies. This costed me HKD150 only.

secondly, please meet a podiatric specialist in a hospital and get the insouls for yr shoes. These in souls are specialy made and cannot be purchased over the counter. These are expensive as i paid HKD 2500 for a pair.

Thirdly, there are two simple excercises that should be done. One is to sit on the floor and stretch yr legs. Take a towel and put it accross yr toes of the foot and pull the toes towards yrself.

the second excercise is to stand against the wall with one foot forward and strech the second leg which is at the back.

The logic here is that from the spine to the heel the flexibility should be improved.

A lot of rest is needed for acute case as the heel is swollen in some cases.

Calcium -- Yea

A month and a half ago, it was sheer agony just to walk to the mailbox; to get out of bed, I needed a cane. Then I came here and read-up on calcium.

For the past month and a half, I've been blasting calcium into my system with a daily dose of: a multi-vitamin with 162 mg of calcium in it, PLUS a tablet of 600 mg of calcium and 400 I.U. of Vitamin D.

Three days after starting my calcium-blasting, I noticed that I was feeling less pain. Now, a month and a half later, I am PAIN-FREE (except after I stand or walk a lot)."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] Anna from Austin, TX writes: "I've had the plantar fasciitis pretty bad for over a month. I couldn't even walk around the house without being in real pain. I used a firm, foam roller and had one of my kids add a little weight to roll out my calves from the knees down. The very next day the pain was very managable. It's like getting a deep massage. Much more effective than just stretching. The heels still hurt when I stand or sit in one spot for too long. I'm guessing that's the calcium deposit. I'm going to try the ACV treatment. I'm a runner and I'm tired of being sidelined."
