GOLDEN RAISINS

[YEA]  08/28/2009: Carolyn from Hobbs, Nm writes: "This sounds farfetched but it works. It is an old remedy handed down many generation. I've had both feet operated on and had many problems including heel spurs. I don't know why this works it just does. Eat a small handful of golden raisins twice a day and you will see a difference in just a matter of a few days. It must be golden raisins not the dark ones.

Thanks,

GOLF BALL MASSAGE

[YEA]  12/11/2008: Luanne from Morris, Illinois writes: "I had an extremely painful heel spur and elected to go with chiropractic treatments. My chiropracter worked on the muscles and tendons with ultrasound and simple massage. She said the problem was the tendons, ligaments, etc. and that I was loosing the arch in my foot. To get it back she suggested getting a golf ball and rolling it along the arch of the foot (ball on floor, roll with bottom of foot) to work out the tightness and inflamation. This is fairly painful when inflamed, so be prepared(no pain, no gain) After about 6 weeks the pain went away and I have been fine since. By the way, the spur is still there(saw it in an x-ray recently), it just isn't bothering me."

Doc did not want to acknowledge the symptoms of migrating pain and twitching up the leg and into the body. I would at times catch a cold, and would feel it go into my heel, which would then swell so I could not walk. One day out of desperation, I rubbed GSE on it. The next day the pain was gone. A week later, I felt the pain and swelling come back. Again, over night with the GSE say 12 drops on the bottom of the foot, and it was gone the next morning. Simply amazing. I had not considered GSE but had tried: Iodine, DMSO, H2O2, other essential oils, colloidal silver, heating foot packs, magnesium oil rubs and soaks; some of which helped a small bit, but nothing like the GSE. So take it for what it's worth. And thanks Ted."

HOT AND COLD SOAKS, TENNIS BALL

[YEA]  01/05/2009: Geoff from Neptune, NJ writes: "Heel Spur Remedy (Cold water/Hot water, Tennis Ball)

I found many of the suggestions quite helpful and ended up combining a number of treatments which had immediate results.

Although my foot did not seem as bad off as some others, it was still impacting my mobility and posture forcing me to walk on the outside of my foot. I was schedule to see a doctor tomorrow and feel as if the treatment has eliminated the need to see the podiatrist. After reading many of the "Standards of Care" remedies used by doctors, they did not sound very helpful. They sounded expensive and invasive...

Treatment:
One tub of very cold water about 3 inches deep. Non chlorinated.

One tub of very hot water with a half cup of epson salt about 3 inches deep. Non chlorinated.

First start by placing the foot in the cold water and leave submerged for about 5-10 minutes or as long as one can stand the extreme cold. Then placing the foot directly into the hot water.

This was repeated twice by replacing the water over a 30 minute period.

Then a tennis ball was used for about 20 minutes under the arch of the foot.

Using a combination of fast rolling and pressing the ball motions, the objective was to compress the ball as much as possible and apply pressure to the back of the arch near the heel.

I intend on following through for several days with this treatment to make sure that the heel is back to normal."

BTW, i have the heel spur and the pain for more thn 7 months now. I have taken anti-inflammatory drugs, Cortisone injections and also Shock Wave Therapy for 3 times to get the heel spur cured, but all this did not cure the pain. All these treatments led to somewhat decrease in the pain but did not cure completely. Finally i decided to try some thing else and fortunately i found this forum and the feed back from the users about the Ice water therapy. Yesterday, i decided to try it out. I just took ICE cold water in a tub and immersed my feet in the water for 30 minutes . Already today i find great relief and most of the pain from the heel is gone, since i have done this only once the pain is not gone 100% but around 80% reduction i would say. I plan to continue this regime for few more days. I thought that this feed back might help some one in great pain caused by heel spur . I would suggest you to just try the Ice water therapy, which works wonders."

IONIC PHOSPHORUS

[YEA]  01/16/2012: Gispa60 from Nashville, Tennessee, U.s.a. writes: "I developed a heel spur, went to see a foot specialist where they took a mold of my foot and then I was supplied special insoles. I was told up to six months I could have the insoles adjusted free of charge. Close to the six months' period, pain returned right in the center of my heel. The insole had a slanted heel.

I figured really how much can they change the insole, so I started reading online. For one thing I read that calcium, magnesium and phosphorus are needed by the body in certain proportions. It so happened that a while back I had broken three ribs and had been taking extra calcium supplements which I believe ended up creating an imbalance. I happened to have a little bottle with some liquid phosphorus on hand from a treatment for TMJ from way back when. I tried some of the drops and started to feel relief. So I went on line and ordered ionic phosphorus. And this has taken care of the problem. I now take it sometimes, just a little tsp. when I feel my heel is becoming sensitive again."

01/17/2012: Timh from Louisville, Usa replies: "Gispa60, your post shows the importance of BALANCE and how marketing has little regard for it. We are sold on Calcium for bone & teeth health, a few yrs latter they discovered the need for Calcium PLUS Vit-D. So we gobble our Cal/D down and get bone spurs, heart arythmias, and kidney stones. Many people on this site have found relief and cured many problems adding MUCH needed Magnesium to their daily regimen.

I add a few drops of Sodium Diphosphate (Fleet Enema) to a mineral footbath often as I know I need it and phosphorous is supposed to be so abundant that it is almost impossible to buy as a supplement. So thanks for the alert.

Also the amino acid Taurine is very good for mineral balance & utilization."

I had a big heel spur on my right foot for 4 years. It got to the point where I almost couldn't walk it was so painful! I talked to the doctor about it and she said "if it is very painful I can send you to a specialist but I believe you will need surgery".

I had tried all types of exercises that were recommeded for heel spurs and they didn't help.

Quite by accident I clicked on FOOT EXCERCISES on the internet and I saw the people that do ballet dancing doing excercises for their feet.

The dancers were sitting with their legs straight and pointing their toes and foot forward like the ballerinas do when they are dancing, arching the top of the foot. So I tried it and almost instantly my pain went away and my heel spur went away! When you point the foot forward you have to hold the foot and tighten the muscles. I usually hold mine for 3 to 4 minutes and afterwards I have no pain!

I do this daily to avoid pain!

If I don't do these exercises the pain will come back but not as badly. Also today I have no pain and no heel spur. And I never needed surgery!"

If I sit for awhile and then get up, then I have to stretch it back out again to be able to walk.

Well the day after taking Lysine I got up that morning and was not crippled. It just felt like the stone bruise. I have been taking Lysine for a week now and my foot is feeling 90% better! I'm not sure if it is the Lysine but it's the only thing I am doing differently. I thought I would pass it along so someone else could try it."

MULTIPLE REMEDIES TRIED

BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  01/16/2011: Michael from Boston, Ma writes: "i just want to share the experience I have had with heel spurs and the success I've had with some of the advice here. I could feel hard, linear growths or spurs, perhaps calcifications, under my right heel. Very sore to push on and I could feel them rolling a bit under my thumb. There were times in the past 2 years when I could not walk properly or without pain. Perhaps connected to this I developed an injury under the pad of my right foot near the middle toe probably due to favoring the heel area. Then I developed a plantar's fasciitis in the same foot so that the whole underside was practically paralyzed with pain.

I am a 48 year old lifelong athlete with a regular yoga practice and feel like I'm in good health. This was debilitating and I could no longer do many of the things that were fulfilling for me. I read that rest was the only thing to do and tried to rest and ice the foot while trying to stay active. That really wasn't successful.

Then out of frustration I turned to the web and found this site. In just a few days I have seen incredible change. I purchased msm and have been taking 1000-2000mg hourly with no negative side effects, 1000 mg of magnesium daily, 1000 mg b1 several times a day. I have added calcium, I had been taking none. I have been taking 5000iu vitamin d3 daily, sometimes more. A good b complex as well as a good multivitamin. I have also ben drinking apple cider vinegar with some baking soda. Physically I have been applying an apple cider vinegar, baking soda and molasses soaked pad overnight and during the day in my shoe. I have been massaging regularly with coconut oil and applying arnica afterwards. I have also tried some massage with castor oil. I have been doing band stretches on the foot pulling the toes toward me and pressing back against the band. And lastly I have done some weak bleach solution soaks on the foot. In 2-3 days I can feel the area smoothing out and the pain is diminishing.

This is a first report and I am excited by the prospect of fully healing. I realize that I was probably deficient in calcium and magnesium and will make permanent changes there. You can do this with some determination and hands on massage of your own foot. you have to move through the soreness to begin to generate blood flow and healing, breaking down the scar tissue and buildup in the tissues."

Since the injury last week I have tried epsom salts, baking soda, ACV soaks and making a paste of turmeric and castor oil and sleeping in it. None of which seems to have helped. Both feet are now swelling from the ankle down and I can feel them tingle as they swell. TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

[YEA]  08/06/2010: Liz from Scranton, Pa writes: "I understand well how terribly painful heel pain can be. It has recurred three times for me, the second time lasting for two years. I had tried countless remedies, orthotics, and devices with limited help. There have been times when I have left my full grocery cart in the store-- not able to stand or walk another minute. Walking from the parking lot into work took everything I had, and often I would use crutches to spare my poor heel. My active lifestyle seemed over. Then, while researching the benefits of deep tissue, self-message, I came across a book on trigger points therapy, that describes the use of a small super ball (35 mm, smaller than a golf ball/one of those knobber things works too) for rubbing around on the bottom of the foot either standing or sitting but with weight on it. The book explains that knots in deep thick muscles of the foot are the cause of the condition that shortens the fascia along the bottom of the foot that in turn causes spurs and other irregularities in the foot's anatomy.

The process is simple: stand or partially stand with as much weight as is bearable on the small super ball under the foot. Roll the ball around from the front of the foot to heel and from side to side DEEPLY, paying special attention to the area directly in front of the heel pad. THIS WILL BE PAINFUL. LIGHTEN UP TILL IT IS BEARABLE. The author describes that it should "hurt so good". This is what is needed to reach the offending trigger points and release them. This should be repeated 4-6 times a day or as often as is convenient. Also, just to the inside of the heel should be deeply messaged with the thumbs as well. I did this for three days, and the pain I thought I would be living with for the rest of my life completely went away! A year later when I felt the first dull ache starting, I again resumed this message, and the pain was gone the next day. Now at least once or twice a week, I use my super ball to prevent the condition. Really works! Just a word about the book: Search on Amazon using "trigger points" There are countless descriptions of self-message techniques that work for relief of pain."

TURMERIC

[YEA]  06/21/2007: Aaron from Cape Coral, Florida writes: "I tried the TURMERIC remedy for boils about 4 days ago, initially with little hope it would work, but in a state of desperation, since this was my THIRD boil in less than 6 weeks, and I had 2 more starting! I went out as soon as I finished reading all of the testimonials on your site, and bought a bottle of Turmeric capsules from my local GNC. That night I took three 500mg caps with dinner, and another 4 capsules before going to bed. (If a teaspoon is good, a tablespoon is better!) The next morning the boil on my stomach, which was a dark purple golf ball radiating excruciating pain the night before, was now a light purple golf ball that was starting to drain, and the pain had gone down by 80 to 90%!

In addition, one of the new boils that was just starting, (a tiny painful pimple,) started to heal, and the other one, slightly larger, while it didn't go away, it stopped growing, and with 72 hours it too drained (really like a normal pimple, only thicker discharge and more painful.)

It's now been about 4 days, and while the large boil is still draining (the core came out yesterday) and is still very tender, it is healing and no other boils are starting.

BUT!

The big BONUS is this: The arthritis in my shoulder that I've been suffering with for the last year, is gone, and even more exciting, I have been dealing with Heal Spurs (Plantar Fasciitis) for about 2 years, and have been suffering TREMENDOUS pain in my foot, every day, all day.

Within 24 hours of taking the Turmeric, my feet have COMPLETELY stopped hurting!!!I plan to continue taking at least one capsule a day indefinitely as a preventative for recurring boils, and as an apparent remedy for my Heal Spurs!!! The real miracle here is that I don't even believe in natural remedies! Thanks so much for the great advice!!!"

I once had a painful boil and placed the turmeric directly on the boil and covered it with a band-aid. Two days later the boil was completely gone. Apparently it helps to reduce inflamation, which is why it helps with arthritis."

ULTRASOUND AND CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENTS

[YEA]  02/14/2008: aaron from irving, tx writes: "work as a medical professional and see this problem on a daily basis. not only have i seen this problem, i also was one to have a bad heel spur in my heel. Ultrasound treatments along with correct alignmengt of the hips and back can cure this problem. Ultrasound is commonly used in the sports medicine field to help increase blood flow to areas of pain and where problems persist (note that this type of ultrasound treatment is not the same ultrasound as used on pregnant women). The ultrasound will help soften the calcium of the heel spur and help the body reabsorb it. Treatments should be continuous 5-7minutes per time with a intesity of .5. Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapist and Chiropractors have access to this type of treatment. Also i have found that correct laignment of the hips and back can lead to severe heel pain which can result in heel spurs. If the hips and back are out of line then too much pressure can be put on one heel as opposed to the other. This mis-alignment can cause poor biomechanics and cause severe heel pain. A chiropractor can help assess and see if this can be the problem and help correct it."

The next business day I scheduled an appt. with the foot doctor only to find out what I already knew BUT it wasn't the bone spur causing the pain. The muscle under the foot becomes weak over the years and with the added weight it would become inflamed. The doctor told me he would wrap my feet with tape and I thought, "he must be crazy", tape is not going to help my pain. I figured I would have to have shots in my heels like my mama did years ago. After he wrapped them, it felt strange and it was really tight. It was uncomfortable at first and he told me to wear them for 5-7 days without getting them wet. Again, I thought, "he must be crazy". I put my shoes on, left and that evening noticed I had less pain. The next day, even more less pain. Well, by the fourth day, I had little to no pain BUT they were beginning to smell because you weren't suppose to get them wet, and of course, I did when I washed. (I tried wrapping my feet in plastic, didn't work). So I took the tape off and thought, well, now what. I had went to Texas with my husband and wouldn't be back to NC for three weeks so I knew I had to do something. I first tried wrapping my feet with sports tape but just about cut my circulation off so I got on the old faithful internet and came across Duct Tape. Yes, duct tape. I wrapped my feet around the arch, snug but NOT tight. I wrapped it from one side of my foot, around the ankel to the other side. It worked a MIRACLE! NO pain all day long.

I went back to the doctor after I got back to NC and told him what I done. He was suprised the duct tape didn't tear my skin but I told him I used the generic kind at a dollar store and it worked wonderful. I would then get in the shower and let the water loosen it up and take it right off. Please keep in mind, I use the exercises they tell you to do to help alleviate the stress on the muscle and my feet are doing much much better. I still have to wear the tape and do the exercises and DON'T go barefooted and my feet aren't hurting like they were. I can go all day long and at the end of the day, they feel fine. Also, he had prescribed me pain medicine which I did not take after two days of using the tape. Hope this helps. leta"

Our health insurance no longer covers the foot Dr it did before so I asked my new Chiropractor. I bought 'paper' tape from the drug store (it's not as rough on the tender feet as duct tape). I gently wrapped my instep for 2 weeks, untilII found arch huggers. These are like sturdy ace bandages (a little thicker though). They are sewn together to make a flat seam. I now use this instead of the paper tape. I wear it each day over my socks, inside my sneakers. I take them off at night, and make sure I put this on my bare instep BEFORE I get out of bed each morning. My Plantar Fasciitis is almost 100% better. Plantar Fasciitis is different than heel spur, but maybe if you 'catch' the pain soon enough with the arch support it may not develop into a heel spur? I don't know this, it's just a suggestion. Anything is better than surgery. Good luck to all. Lori K. Newport Va, USA"
