I also found water helps. Laying in the bath (for 30 to 60 minutes or so depending on your situation) really seems to work well. A doctor I know also suggested showering might help as well. Another way I've found that works for me is rest. I've noticed that it seems to be heavier when I don't get enough sleep or if I'm stressed out. Try relaxing and making sure you get at least eight hours of sleep.

I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. I have very heavy bleeding but bathing slows it down... I don't know how, but it does. If I am close to the end of my cycle, a long bath will even make it end sooner.

I have heavy menstrual cycles. In fact, I have been on BCP since I was 17 to slow my flow. This past year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy. Could it have been the BCP? Who knows. Since then, I have eliminated possible causes from my diet and lifestyle. After reading a post from this site about ACV, I thought I would give it a try. Low and behold, it worked!!!

Here's my simple recipe:

1 can Beets; pour out half the liquid and replace it with Organic Apple Cider Vinegar; store in a mason jar in the refrigerator.

At the beginning of my cycle, I eat two-four beets per day for first three days. No more problems.

I had my period for a month straight... Getting heavier as time went on. I looked on this site and decided to give molasses a try. I took a teaspoon in the morning afternoon and night. I'm not too sure if it was the molasses or the shephard's purse or their combined effect, but I'm all done!! It didn't work right away.. I had to take it for about 4-5 days before anything happened, and it wasn't until I made an infusion of the shepherd's purse instead of just drinking it as a tea that my period stopped completely. So I would recommend to anyone to look into shepherd's purse if the molasses doesn't work right away. (there's lot's of info if you google it)

It works! Thank you guys for sharing this wonderful tip here.

Years ago I suffered from bad cramps and was able to heal myself eating dry seaweed, due to its high iodine content.

Then, about 4 months ago I had the most horrific cramps ever, pain that was so bad it would wake me from my sleep. I was bloated, throw up sick, constipated, with back pain, fatigue, just awful. The bleeding was so heavy it would stain my sheets at night. My friends and coworkers noticed how pale and exhausted I looked and seaweed didn't do anything this time.

So, I looked up on my favorite website: earthclinic and found blackstrap molasses as a solution. Tried that for a month and no improvement, cramps were horrible and heavy bleeding lasted a week as opposed to my forever light 3 day period. I thought I might be hitting menopause, I'm 45. Then I saw a post mentioning chaste berry and did some research online, saw many posts and reviews mentioning chaste berry for heavy periods and cramping.

The first month I tried I still had the cramping and heavy period, but I pushed through I kept taking it everyday. Last month, I didn't even know I got my period: no pain, no discomfort, no cramping or digestive problems.

God bless this website and everyone who posts here. You guys have no idea how many times I've been helped by the tips found here! Thank you all!

I had to change tampons and pads every hour in the last three days, with large blood clots, and I had heavy seven or more day periods all my life, sometimes twice per month or full months. I had been on the pill to regulate them but it made me gain weight, or just taking extra iron. I finally checked earthclinic and decided to try cinnamon, although not a fan of the taste - one teaspoon in a glass of juice or water, and works like a miracle, instantly, I didn't have to change a tampon in five hours, I will post again in a couple of days, purchased a couple of remedies recommended here but I intend to stick to cinnamon and liquid iron for a couple of days to see if it will stop it.

I read a post from another website, a lady said her natural doctor recommended an alternation of primrose oil and fish oil for hormone imbalance and that stopped it.

My bleeding stopped completely one week after I started cinnamon, I also started to take on the third day of this week Chastetree Gattilier tincture for hormonal balance and I still continue taking it after.

In response to:

08/24/2008: Michelle from Round Rock, Tx: "I had not had my period in a matter of months. I thought it was because I had gained some weight and I tend to miss or skip when I lose weight or gain. Well About 3 weeks ago I got what I thought was my normal period... this time it isn't. I haven't stopped bleeding, not even slowed down. I've gotten large clots as well. I'm kind of scared about it because I'm feeling weak and tired as well as sick and tired of it. I cant do anything."

Cinnamon works. After reading about the cinnamon tea here, I decided to give it a try for my extremely heavy and prolonged bleeding. After having an entire day of heavy flooding, I tried 1/2 tsp of cinnamon in my coffee and kept stirring it as I drank it down. Within the hour, the flooding completely stopped and my period became very light. I also felt a boost of energy.

Later that evening when things picked up again and got heavy, I took 2 cinnamon capsules I had on hand and got the same response, the bleeding went lighter. Cinnamon also took away my painful cramps. I could not believe it.

The next day, I tried it again and to my surprise it worked. I continued cinnamon the next two days and my period came to an end much sooner. I would say, don't overdo it however. If you research it, cinnamon can also be known to bring on bleeding for those seeking to start their periods. I stick with 1/2 a tsp in the morning, and 1/2 tsp at early evening and that seems to work fine. You will have to find your personal balance.

If you are experiencing heavy flow and it's going on too long, and seems not normal for you, then please do get this checked out and make sure it's just hormonal. And please make sure you do not get anemic. I let it go so long, I almost lost my life and had to have multiple transfusions. I went through all kinds of testing, ultrasound, ct scan, biopsy to make sure I didn't have anything going on. When I got the all clear, I went right for the natural treatment. It's worth the peace of mind to make sure and, when you know what you are dealing with, you can go at it with a treatment. Peace!

I cannot thank you enough for this. I began having issues years ago, no doctor detected the problem, and suddenly, at a high point during the pandemic, I couldn't stop bleeding and spotting. At first I thought it was my period, then 25 days later again, then again, and they lasted for more than a week so I was bleeding all the time. Large clots, very dark blood. I was weak, dizzy. My iron levels were low since February, doctors still saw nothing wrong.

So, I tried ACV and it worked, then I got severe stomach pain and acid reflux so I had to stop. And the spotting came back.

I came here, read your advice and immediately boiled half a cinnamon stick in a litre of water. Drank it and about an hour later I felt the inflammation decreasing. I kept taking half a cup 3 times a day for two days and the spotting was gone.

Stopped taking it, it came back. So, now I'm going to take it every day and hopefully it'll keep working.

I'm also taking molasses, I feel much better, but sadly it didn't seem to stop the spotting.

Again, thank you. God bless you.

Been using VCO for acne for about two weeks. Progress has been slow to non-existent. I als read that it helps with regularity so decided to take it internally (1tsp) for that. Well I didn't get that effect either but amazingly I tookit around the first day of my period and I noticed that my period stopped for a couple of hours. Whenit came back I took another tsp and it went away for two days. It eventually came back but the flow was low and totally painless. I googled the effect and foud out people have been using it for this purpose for centuries. Wish I had known earlier.

Menstrual pain became so severe for me that I wished I did not have a period. The pain would hit me so hard that I felt nauseated. One day at work, out of sheer desperation I went into the bathroom, wet a wad of paper towel under hot water, went into the stall and sat with that hot towel clenched on my belly button. I sat there and suddenly - splat! - I looked down and a fat blob of curdled blood looked up at me - and the pain was gone! I started examining what I ate via a journal and realized that things such as cheese, white bread (margarine), beef and alcohol cause me distress when it came around to my menses. I theorized that it was the food I was eating that caused a problem with circulation. I stopped eating all forms of dairy, started drinking lots of room temperature water.

When it was time for my menses, I drank lots of plain room temperature coconut water with a dash of cayenne pepper. That put an end to the debilitating pain! I've passed on the remedy to all my friends. Even if you don't practice good eating habits, when that pain hits, reach for the room temperature coconut water with a dash of cayenne pepper! IT WORKS in half an hour! If you don't have coconut water (no cans, please), use semi contra tea aka mexican tea, american wormwood, epazote with a dash of cayenne.

Few things that helped resolved my menstrual issues:

Raw foods during your period will cut down length of the cycle, and will give you lighter bleeding.

Good quality Cod liver oil, all month long, but increased quantities during period, will CONSIDERABLY reduce bleeding.

Daily exercise or walking briskly.

Good luck!

My mom used to have incredibly heavy menstruation and she used cod liver oil, but in the liquid form because she was taking so much.

The heavy menstruation was caused by uterine fibroids, but I imagine this would work with other causes, too.

She was taking usually about 3 tablespoons per day, but at one point took 5 tablespoons. This was when it was REALLY bad. Just keep in mind, however, that this is a little hard on your liver. You may feel very low on energy shortly after taking this much CLO because your liver is trying to process it. She really found this to be true when she took the 5 tbs.

The CLO worked really quickly, and she also lost weight while using the oil.

My doctor told me to take vitamin K to stop the heavy bleeding during menstruating. I researched foods that have a high content of it in it. I tried collard greens. They also have several other good vitamins too. After eating 1/4 cup about three times a day. I noticed l was not having to change so often or set my alarm clock at night to prevent an accident. I learned to cook them myself for taste and controlling the amount of sodium. Better than canned for me because the heavy sodium gives me cramps on my heaviest day. A true miracle for me. Fresh collard greens works better for me than the vitamin K pills.

KAT,,,, wish we could send you some of our collards as they have been through a number of frosts and are very sweet. I'm sure collards in Fla. have not been through a frost where they start producing sugar and are sweet and not bitter. Folks in the Sweat South have to add sugar to nullify the bitter taste. You also might find them more palatable if you add a little hog fat, such as bacon.

Glad you found your nitch. We eat collards because they are one of the most nutritious of all vegetables.

My pacific island friend complained of debilitating pain, heavy menses, here I use blackstrap molasses a tablespoon a day at the first inkling I am near, I knew it would be very difficult for her to find such a product. I looked into what she has around her and suggested she make a tea of fresh curry leaves. They're high in vitamins and minerals particularly iron. She made the tea and reported hours later that it helped so much with her pains she would take it every day of her period.

You don't need fancy herbs off the internet, look into what's around you. Eg all thistles, and that gardener's bane, couchgrass (root) all excellent for uti, yet usually overlooked.

Best to you.

Friend had severe cramps and bleeding during her period, I suggested fennel and fenugreek, to be infused into a tea, this is what I use and it has reduced my duration from 7 to 4.5 days, and reduced bleeding and I don't have cramps any more.

She didn't have any of the ingredients so I suggested curry leaves, infused into a tea. She took a while to get back to me, but she went and got the leaves which took some time. Then the confirmation, about four hours after my advice. Cramps and pain gone, with a smiling emoji. I don't know if she did it again the next day, but I'm secure that she has the knowledge for next time.

Had the same horrifying problem as another poster from 2010-- One week off period; 3 weeks on. Bled so much I soaked a cloth chair at a pizza joint. I've since hit menopause and don't have this worry at all BUT HERE WAS THE REMEDY FOR ME BACK THEN:.

1. NO CARBS: - no rice-potatoes-sugar--wheat/bread. Ate Meat/eggs/fish, salad or cooked veggies, 1 low carb snack daily of berries, cheese, or nuts. Secret: low carb and keto recipes on youtube

2. Took ACV (2 tsp wake-up / 2tsp bedtime w//pinch baking soda in 6oz water)

3. Upped water consumption to 2 liters per day

4. Exercise: I chose to do 5 Tibetan Rites for THAT year - excellent toning!

5. Desiccated Liver Capsule (grass-fed cattle) twice weekly.

The bleeding stopped in 4 days. The pain in my ovaries/uterus ended completely within 10 days. In 6 months, I lost 20 pounds with no loose skin and excellent toning.

I now believe it is a high carb, high sugar diet that is causing these horrifying symptoms in women and if your doctor can't help, try eliminating those high carb foods and sugar. Try it for 30 days. That at least costs you NOTHING!

I really, really agree with Cat from Austin. I had been a vegan/vegetarian for more than 15 years. On the surface, my diet seemed healthy. It was full of whole grains, vegetables, and fruits. In fact, the more carbs I ate, the more I craved them. Eventually, I experienced four to five and a half week periods. My hair was falling out. I had skin issues. Plus, I struggled with visceral fat. So many
Vegans are skinny-fat.

I eventually realized from watching YouTube videos that I might have been suffering from hyperinsulinemia. There are many Youtube videos about it. I'm now off the high carb/ high sugar diet and I'm slowly recovering. I'm not keto or carnivore, just low carb, low sugar. I've cut out for now the mountains of fruit bowls I used to eat. Not saying fruit is bad. I was just eating too much. The bloating is gone, as well. I haven't had a four to five and a half week period in two months. So, I'm just going to keep going with this new way of eating. I hope to keep healing and hope any woman struggling with these issues will try a low carb low sugar diet.
