[YEA] 11/07/2006: Lynette from Edwardsville, IL writes: "For the past year, I have been suffering from severe headaches, my heart would beat extremely fast just from standing up, and dizziness. I knew that it was serious when my head was hurting so bad one day that I went to lie down and woke up almost 15 hours later. I found this website while looking for a cure for gout for someone else. I sent them the information and then began to read the other parts of this site. After my reading, I wrote out a list and I went to the health food store immediately after work. I have been taking the mixture of the water with ACV, liquid garlic, cayenne pepper and blackstrap molasses for a week now. For the first time in a year, I am feeling so much better. My heart rate has slowed. My headaches are gone. I am using the bathroom on a regular basis now and I am not sleepy all of the time. I am also taking multi-vitamins. Thank you for this wonderful website!"
Replies01/28/2011: Noelle from Denton, Tx, Us replies: "I am having some major issues with antidepressant withdrawal side effects and hope that someone can help me. I've been on one antidepressant or another for nearly 8 years. I have tried to taper off them before, but have always ended up going back because of the side effects of stopping them (a bit like paying protection to a mob! ). I don't really feel that I need the antidepressants anymore, but stopping is truly a wrenching experience.
The most recent med I've taken was Lexapro, which I've taken for several months with no problems. However, I haven't been able to get my script refilled and so today is day 2 without it. I have a headache, my body aches all over as if from the flu, and I feel dizzy, a little nauseated (this is not really interfering with me) and the worst part is the feeling of scatterbrained disorientation.
I've been drinking apple cider vinegar for several months as well, added to my daily water bottle. I was doing oil pulling with sesame oil but stopped after a couple of months (no real reason for stopping). I know that getting off the antidepressant is in my best interest at this point, but the withdrawal feels like it's really going to hammer me. Message boards I was reading on the subject indicate that these side effects could last for weeks or even months!
As I said, I didn't mean to go off them in this manner and would prefer to do this under a doctor's supervision, but I was hoping someone here would have some suggestions."
01/28/2011: Randy from Jersey City, Nj, Usa replies: "Noelle,
I am currently weaning myself off lexapro. I am cutting pills in order to do this, and I have been doing it with success so far. Minimal side effects. I have been weaning for about 4-6 weeks now, and currently feel fine.
here's what I did:
1st week: alternate daily between full dose and 3/4 dose
2nd-3rd week: 3/4 dose
4th week: alternate daily bw 3/4 dose and 1/2 dose
etc, etc
take as long as you want on each step. Lexapro stays in your system for a while, so using the step down procedure is very effective.
fyi, I plan on taking 5HTP when I am fully down to about 1/2 or 1/4 dose
good luck"
01/28/2011: Bess from Calgary, Alberta, Canada replies: "Hi Noelle - I've just been reading Dr. Mercola's newsletter (I spend far too much time on the computer! ) and there was some information about diet and depression. Two major things mentioned were adequate Vitamin D intake (whether sun or supplements) and Omega-3 fish oils. There is a place for comments at the end of the article and someone mentioned they had been on antidepressants for over 25 years and was finally weaned from them (the person recommended taking virgin coconut oil and astaxanthin). Another person recommended the following Web site www.theroadback.org which has a lot of free information, including a free download called How to Get Off Psychiatric Drugs Safely. I took a quick look and it seems like a very good place to find the right answers. Hope this helps! Cheers, Bess"
01/31/2011: Noelle from Denton, Tx replies: "Hi Randy from Jersey City, and thanks for the suggestions. Tapering down really isn't an option unless I can get my doctor to approve a refill--which so far she hasn't done--so I was sort of forced to go cold turkey! If I can get a refill I will follow the schedule you have suggested."
01/31/2011: Noelle from Denton, Tx Usa replies: "P. S. I just checked my refills and she has given me 11! Now my question is this: my dosage is 10 mg. Tablet: very small and difficult to divide. How do you get a 3/4 dose out of these tiny tablets?"
02/12/2011: Sandi from Anywhere, Usa replies: "Please everyone, go get the dvd, . The beautiful truth. You will learn of the Gerson therapy which cures cancer, but the man who discovered this (Max Gerson) was trying to cure his own migraines. I have amelgum/mercury fillings and I am pretty sure this is what is causing mine. Mercury is poison but they are still filling our teeth with it! This is only a drop in the bucket. If you have any other problems, the Gerson Therapy will cure them all. There are other dvd's and books on this. Your eyes will be opened to a whole world of very valuable information. It's all about what we put into our bodies! Please watch these! They are on Amazon and Netflix has them too. We must buy all organic also to avoid the loads of chemicals and gmo that are in our foods. No wonder we have migranes, cancer, heart disease, attention deficit disorder, and the list goes on and on! The insurance industry and pharmacutical companies are getting rich on us because we don't care what we eat. You should also watch Food Inc. It is full of information also. Please get these and watch them. It may save your life or someone you know! "

[YEA] 09/14/2006: Nadine from North Bergen, NJ writes: "I actually came to your website to learn more about Apple Cider Vinegar since an herbal remedies book recommended it for headaches. I've had these headaches for a few years and it's hard to describe the pain; it was like a pressure on my eyes and sides of my head, not to mention the fog that accompanied it and made me unable to think clearly. It was very difficult to look at a computer screen or read a book. Sometimes I would have these headaches for weeks at a time! I've also been suffering from fatigue; I felt lethargic and had no energy or motivation to do anything. I'm 21 years old and a student so this was not helping at all. I used to wake up (sometimes after more than 10 hours) and feel as though I'd had no rest at all, and I always awoke with a splitting headache. I'd had a regular workout routine which I'd stuck to 5-6 days a week, but could no longer find the energy or mental clarity to even go for a walk. I went to the local GNC less than two weeks ago and purchased two bottles of Apple Cider Vinegar; since then I've taken 2 TB 3 times daily in a glass of water and I'm free from headaches, I have considerably more energy, I sleep better, I wake up refreshed and my eyes are brighter! They no longer have that dull, pained look. An added bonus is that it's suppressing my appetite. I haven't measured or weighed myself as of yet, but I'll be sure to update you as soon as I do! Thank you for this wonderful website!"

[YEA] 07/23/2006: Chris from Sallins, Ireland writes: "I started getting very bad headaches around the age of 12, and have had them on almost a daily basis since (I'm now 30). Nothing the doctors prescribed was ever effective in treating the cause, nobody really knew why I got them. I also have sinus problem and a sport related neck injury, I have thought these could be linked to the constant headaches. I started to look for another treatment for the sinus infections. I've been taking a mixture of sinutab and other paracetamol, aspirin and ibuprofen tablets over the years to help with the pain but it couldn't continue. I found your site in looking for a sinus cure and started drinking ACV one month ago and have not taken a single tablet since!!! I also feel more energetic every day."

[YEA] 03/30/2006: Gloria from Meriden, CT writes: "So glad to find this site. I have been having a pretty bad headache, so i took 2tbsp. of acv in 8oz.water. It tastes terrible but within 10 minutes it helped a lot and it also opened up my nasal passages and the post nasal drip that i have been having stopped. Just to thank you and i will be coming onto this page more frequently. It has also helped out many others that i come in contact with. Again thanks, blessings to you."
Replies[YEA] 09/17/2008: Liz from Bluffton, South Carolina replies: "Yes, it is true... ACV is really the cure-all. I would recommend it for anyone. I'm currently completing my B.S. in human nutrition and let me tell you that when I'm a Registered Dietitian I will be telling all of my patients about this miracle. I have had bad migraines all my life and recently started taking ACV with a couple packets of splenda and lemon juice mixed with a cup of hot water. Also, sodium bicarbonate is optional if you want to protect the enamel on your teeth and make it carbonated too! This concoction takes away the migraine every time, almost instantly. I take it 2-3 times a day and it really helps. It also keeps skin clear, suppresses your appetite and aids in weight loss. There are many other reasons why I take ACV... if you want to know more, read Earl Mindell's "The amazing Apple Cider Vinegar". I love ACV!"
EC: Glad to hear ACV is helping your migraines! You might want to read up on the side effects of Splenda though.. Here is our page on the subject.

[YEA] 03/22/2008: Teresa from Fort Worth, TX writes: "Last week after using ALOT of an over-the-counter pain aid(this particular one never works for me but that's all we have at my job) I felt really drawn to eating a green granny smith apple I had brought with me. I ate it slowly over the course of 30-45 minutes and by the time I was through with it my headache was gone! The ONLY thing that had ever worked for me before was a different over-the-counter pain aid. I am extactic about my apple-cure discovery. Oh, let me add that the headache hasn't even tried to come back either. That headache had been coming and going for three days. Yeah!"

AVOID HIDDEN MSG IN FOOD

[YEA] 10/10/2007: JOYCE from Joelton, Tn writes: "...Again, on headaches, remove the cause, instead of looking for a cure. Aspartame (Nutrisweet) is well known for causing headaches. So is Monosodiumglutamate. If you want to find some other things they can cause, type in Excitotoxins, and hit search. For those who think MSG is only found in stir-fried (Chinese foods), make a list of the names MSG is hidden under in the ingredients list, then go into your kitchen and see how many of your foods have one or more of them listed in the ingredients.
Classic example is the 15% chicken broth that may be contained in a well-known brand of raw chicken that you must take home and cook...The MSG isn't mentioned because they didn't add MSG - they added chicken broth which contained the MSG.....Learn to protect yourself and your loved ones by learning these legal loop-holes. Oh, yes, you will also learn that that they are named excitotoxins because they excite the neural cells (Brain & Central nervous system) to death.
If you also research meta-bolic syndrome X (now called insulin resistance) by orthodox medicine) you will also find that excitotoxins are the same things that cause insulin resistance which ends up as full fledged Diabetes Mellitus,Type 2 which used to be called DM, adult onset, but was renamed to DM type 1 for juvenile onset and type 2 for adult onset, because children (even toddlers, are now developing type 2. So be your own health defender by learning all the names the excitotoxins are hidden under, stop buying these products, and write the supplier telling them why you aren't buying their product. You will only have to make one list because the excitotoxins are the same ones that makes us kick out excess insulin, proceed through insulin resistance, then to full fledged DM, type 2 and all of its complications."

All you may need to do to relieve this may be to cup your hand gently over your nose and mouth and breathe gentle slow breaths for a few minutes... [YEA] 06/07/2011: Hope from Sacramento, California writes: "I get what are called "ice pick" headaches several times a year and they are very hard to deal with.
After trying several things with no luck (zapping, eft, theta healing), I finally woke up and looked on Earthclinic. I used the suggestion of putting a small amount of cayenne papper on the tip of the tongue, waiting about 30 seconds, and then drinking 12 or so ounces of pure cool water.
It worked like a charm and a few hours later a very slight headache reappeared, but I did the cayenne again and it stopped the pain immediately!"

CAYENNE PEPPER
Ratings:
|
[NAY] 01/27/2010: Bonnie from Manlius, New York, Onondaga writes: "Cayenne pepper for headache
First of all, I'd like to give praise to Earth Clinic for such a fabulous website! I have tried many remedies from the site and they ALL worked...with the exception of the cayenne pepper for my headache! I had a headache behind my left eye and decided I'd snort some of the pepper as I'd read that it cured many a headache. Not too familiar with snorting foreign substances up my nose, I wasn't sure how to do it. So I grabbed a spoon, dug out some pepper (mistake number one) and sniffed. My first thought was that the synapses in my brain were misfiring when I decided to try this method. My second thought was that I wondered if this is how it felt to stick a blowtorch up my nostril and light it. Before I looked in the mirror, I seriously wondered if my left eyeball had shrunk to the size of a raisin and fallen into my now empty eye socket. (It hadn't...my eyeball, albeit on fire, was thankfully intact)! In my haste to grab a tissue and blow this fireball out of my nose, I ran into the open cupboard door (this REALLY happened)and smacked myself square on the forehead...(mistake number two). After a minute or twenty, the pervasive burning had dissipated, but a new, equally as fun sensation was happening....the cayenne was dripping from my nasal cavity into my throat. For pete's sake, I was now TASTING the pepper! I drank a tall glass of water and decided that i had had it....and took an ibuprofen. Unfortunately, the cayenne did not take my headache away. Although, who knows what would have happened had I not ran headfirst into the cupboard! So, this will be my very first "Nay" post on the site...with a gentle reminder that if you decide to try it, do NOT use more than a teensy bit of cayenne and for the love of God, shut all cupboard doors FIRST! "

Deirdre - how about a page for the funniest posts. I'd definitely nominate this one along with ouchy mcnumbface for earache and BC boy from smithers for canker sore. I often go back to those two when I've had a bad day. Wonder if they aren't the same person."
EC: Yes, great idea, thanks!! Perhaps a new remedy page called "Laughing Remedies". I would also nominate the stress test, which I go to when I need a good laugh and a few Youtube videos.

10/23/2011: Kathlee from Vancouver, Canada replies: "My gosh! That's the best laugh I've had in a long time! (I'm sorry to laugh at your calamity but you did put a smile on my face. Thank you! Hugs"

02/10/2012: Susana from Creston, North Carolina replies: "I'm laughing so hard I have tears running down my face, almost as severe as when I snort cayenne pepper!!! Yes, thanks for the belly laugh--what a great remedy for a headache! I find the cayenne pepper brings temporary relief only. I have concluded that my sinus headaches are about irritation and believe that practicing mindfulness about life's irritations help me reduce the number and severity of these irritations. What did help recently was applying a few drops of peppermint oil to a tissue and relaxing while breathing it for the hours it took for the headache to finally go away."

[YEA] 04/29/2009: Nikki from Pittsburgh, PA writes: "Cayenne Pepper relieved my cluster headache! I had been suffering from absolutely debilitating cluster headaches- they seemed to have been taking over my life! I stubled across this website today after spending the day alternating between rocking back and forth in pain and looking up clinics in my area. I didn't have any powdered cayenne on hand, so I crushed up a seed of a dried cayenne pepper that I had from last summer's yield, and snorted that. Lo and behold, I am now able to type this with about 90% of the headache gone. I took the pepper seed about ten minutes ago, and plan to try more in a minute.
I can't believe how well it works! I am bookmarking this site asap!
Thank you all so much! "

[YEA] 04/24/2009: Teresa from Miami, FL writes: "Cayenne Pepper relieves my husband's cluster headaches. He had horrible time with headaches for over 15 years till we started to use the cayenne pepper. Now when he feels one coming on, he just snorts a tiny bit (maybe 1/4 of a teaspoon) up his nostril on the same side where he feels the headache. Yes he feels a sharp burning in his nose briefly (along with his eyes watering) but it relieves the headache within 15-20 minutes at the most. He was taking strong pain pills before that often didnt help and he would be sick for hours, with vomiting and extreme pain. Cayenne Pepper has alleviated all that. Just the "red pepper" that you buy in spice section at the store, for 3 or 4 dollars. If the headache is on both sides, snort a tiny bit up both nostrils."

I gulped 1/8 of a tsp of Cayenne Peppe r(wasn't brave enough to sniff it up my nose ;D) in hot water, then I swished with cold water and swallowed that too. Took a couple of very deep breaths.(not too hard to do when your mouth is on fire.) And the headache is gone less than 2 minutes later. Even the ache-y-ness in my body is gone!
I <3 Earth Clinic!"

She suggested that I try cayenne pepper (crush up the capsules) and snort a little in each nostril.I was sk eptical and never tried it until a month later. I had another headache and the same co-worker asked me if I tried the cayenne pepper. I told her that I had not tried it yet. I pulled the capsules out of my purse and thought: "Why not try it." The next thing I knew I was snorting cayenne pepper at my desk and within minutes my headache disappeared. I did experience burning in my nostrils for at least 15 minutes (only use a small amount). Some of the pepper went down my throat which was okay with me because I have stomach trouble. The point is-is that the cayenne pepper worked. [YEA] 12/17/2007: Brynne from Irving, Texas writes: "I listened to a nutritionist last night who reminded me that the brain is mostly fat, and when we aren't sleeping well, feel irritable, can't concentrate, or even have headaches, our brains may be crying out for fat! As we add the coconut oil to our diet, our brains may find greater balance and we feel the soothing nature of the unctuos coconut oil internally as well as externally. This all happened when I recently' took only 1 TBS of Coconut oil per day for 2 days and then started my cycle without the usual 4 aspirin headache...my cycle was so peaceful. I felt so quiet and easy throughout my body; there was no struggle to have my normal cycle."

[YEA] 09/07/2006: Anonymous from Albuquerque, NM writes: "A friend told me about your site yesterday and I love it! I especially love that there are variations on a theme so if one way doesn't' work for you there are lots of others to try. I had no idea the extent and many uses of H2O2 and ACV which I've now added to my routines! I started cold symptoms a few days ago and thanks to the inhaling acv and drinking it (I down 1/2 ounce acv with a chaser of lemon water or oj) I'm healing much faster than normal my last 'cold'.
On the supplements section, I wanted to let you know about a natural, organic herbal combo which I've been using to combat migraines. I get the full blown kind with pretty colors, loss of sight, and then debilitating headaches. I use to only get them occasionally, and recently have been getting them daily. Gaia's Migra-Profen if taken IMMEDIATELY upon onset, can turn them around within about 15 minutes. Doesn't do much for regular headaches and if you wait too long they don't work. Thanks to this product, I'm able to continue to work in a high stress environment without having to go home sick all the time. I'm now working with a massage therapist to work on the body mechanics which have caused the increase in frequency and that's helping prevent them."
