PINE TAR SOAP

1 YEA
1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[YEA]  04/02/2008: CJ from northern, wisconsin writes: "Over ten years ago, I experienced clumps of hair suddenly falling out overnight. Stress, I suppose. I had 3 patches of total hairlessness ranging from the size of a quarter to a half dollar. I mean, no hair, at least I could comb over at the time. Also, thin spots that weren't totally bare. A month went by with no improvement and then my sister happened to mention to me about a couple other people she knew who had the same type of hair loss and who had used the kind of soap we Finlanders use in the sauna, ____ Pine Tar Soap, and their hair grew back. I lived near a soap shop at the time and immediately went and bought a bar and washed my hair with it right away. I washed my hair with it daily for over a month. Within the first week, the bald patches filled in with peach fuzz hair within 4 weeks, you could not tell where the bald patches had been. My hair has not fallen out since and I only wash my hair with it occasionally as "insurance." It's easy to use bar soap to wash hair but they also make it in a liquid shampoo. I don't know why it works but it's only couple bucks for the bar soap and worth a try."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  04/17/2009: Angie from South Pasadena, California replies: "Hi All. Neither one of my older sisters have had any problems with hair loss so I think my hair loss is due to some necessary medication I am taking. Anyway, the problem started once I started taking this medication. I tried the acv rinse and it didn't help. I also tried a lot of supplements but they made my acid reflux worse. Although I didn't expect much, I bought a bar of ___Pine Tar soap and used it to wash my hair. Ever since the first night, and it's been about a week and a half now, less hair has been falling out in the shower. The one exception is if I've been really stressed out in the twenty four hours since last washing my hair. The only two complaints is the very strong scent of the soap and that it leaves a residue on your hair since it is made with coconut oil. My hair doesn't look greasy but it looks like it has less volume. Just today I went a step further by installing a shower filter. Even less of my hair fell out tonight in the shower and I am really pleased. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the two people who recommended these two remedies. Sincerely, Angie"

1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  11/06/2009: Celteyes from Pearland, Texas writes: "I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with regrowing hair after chemotherapy.

Before I knew anything about natural medicine I went thru chemo and radiation for breast cancer. Before treatment I had thick shiny straight hair but it had body and would hold a curl.

The stuff that came back is fine and kind of frizzy. My stylist calls it "angel hair." I even have an almost bald spot in the crown area. The hair on my body never came back. I only have to shave maybe once every couple of months. I keep thinking maybe it is a detox issue. I would really appreciate any info. After all these years I still miss my hair!
I am so thankful to have found this site. I love it."

10/27/2009: T.leela from New York, New York writes: "HELP!! I am a 27yr old female suffering from HAIRLOSS. I have seen countless doctors and none of them give me hope. My family all has thick hair including my 65yr old parents. I have been to every specialist and they all give me minoxidil and spironolactone, however neither has helped the regrowth. Below is my most recent biopsy which was VERY painful and my doctors response was "ready for a hair transplant!" Again I am 27 and female and I am desperately seeking help. I am unable to interpret the below and was hoping someone could help. I would give anything to have my hair back to the way it was 5 yrs ago. Thoughts? Advice? Help?!?

Clinical information
1. 2mm punch. Mid inf. Scalp frontal submitted for DIF, B. 4mm punch mid frontal superior scalp: A, B:/Female pattern hair loss, autoimmune hairloss. 704.00. IDX mc

Diagnoses:
A. skin, mid inferior scalp frontal, submitted for5 DIF:Ã¥
- Positive lupus band test of IgM isotype

Comment (specimen a):
There is a fairly striking deposition of IgM along the dermal-epidermal junction and as well there is staining within the epithelium for IgA, IgM and IgG essentially defining a very immunoreactant profile. This profile is not dissimilar to other cases of androgenetic alopecia

2. Skin, mid frontal superior scalp:
- Non-scarring alopecia consistent with androgenetic alopecia

Comment (specimen b):
The findings are those of a fairly advances state of non-scarring alopecia. I would tend to favor a diagnosis of androgenetic alopecia. There is one terminal hair unit however that suggests the possibility of alopecia areata although I do not see frank lymphocyctic bulbitis. I am curious to know if in fact this patent has and clinical features of alopecia areata. If indeed the clinical presentation is more in keeping with common baldness I would interpret the process as an inflammatory immunogenic variant of androgenetic alopecia, especially given the very impressive immunoflurescent profile. We will destain slide B1 (D4-6) to see if we can actually identify any lymphocytes permeating the bulbar epithelium

Microscopic description
Direct immunofluorescent studies have been performed on specimen A, the results of which are as follows:

IgG: There is 1-2/3 fine granular staining of epidermal keratinocytes within the epidermis and hair follicle
IgA: There is a fairly intense granular staining in the sebocytes and other root sheath of a hair follicle as well as 1-2/3 fine granular staining of epidermal keratinocytes
IgM: There is a continuous band of 3/3 granular staining along the dermal-epidermal junction as well as 3/3 granular staining within the basement membrane zone of the hair follicle
C3: significant immunoreactivity is not identified
C3d: there is an interrupted band of 1-2/3 fine granular staining along the dermal-epidermal junction and within the follicular basement membrane zone
C4d: negative

There is an average normal number of anagen hair follicles however they appear shorter and thinner. There is a superficial and mild perivascular and slightly perifolliclar infiltrate predominantly of lymphocytes. PAS stain fails to reveal fungal hyphae or a thickened basement membrane. There are yeasts of Pityrosporum on the epidermal surface"

11/01/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "I have a woman with a severe hair loss. The remedy really stopped it, was the manganese sulfate. The dose was about 200 mg taken twice a day for about 5 days. The hair loss stopped within 2 days and completely on the fourth or fifth day. Manganese sulfate, I have to buy from a chemical suppliers because the tablet form sold in health food store contain additives, which block their absorption. The manganese will not work if a person suffers from depression and weakness, which is also a sign of tin deficiency. However, this doesn't happen often but does occur if the manganese supplements don't work. Sometimes hair mineral analysis may give clues. In case a person suffers constipation or bowel movement less than 2 times a day, then digestive enzymes are low and autotoxicity is the issue. In which case I will likely to take the digestive enzyme before meals, and during meals, which may total about 6 capsules. Once the excess protein is digested with digestive enzyme, the body's hormones do not get blocked by fats where lipase breaks it down so that hormones naturally produced, will also stop the hair loss.

The autoimmunity I am using as my protocol I currently using humic acid, iodine and turmeric with good successes. Therefore, if hair loss is due to autoimmunity, then humic acid powder 1/8 teaspoon twice a day, plus, 2 drops of lugols and 2 drops of SSKI once a day, and one tablespoon of turmeric three times a day. That's my basic autoimmunity remedy. The other one I sometimes use is the borax remedy, which is 1/8 teaspoon of borax in one liter of drinking water to be drank throughout the day. The borax increases the body's natural hormones, such that some told me it has some viagra effects, for both men and women."

11/02/2009: T.Leela from New York, USA replies: "Ted. I am located in NYC and am having a horrible time finding any of the suggestions you mentioned. I dont see any of these for human consumption. (manganese sulfate, digestive enzymes, humic acid, iodine, turmeric, lugols, SSKI and borax) Can you point me in the right direction on where to find these? Thank you"

11/02/2009: T.Leela from New York, New York, USA replies: "Any additional info would be helpful since I cannot find the list you supplied:

> manganese sulfate (GLC 2000 Capsules (Human Use Only) - 240/bottle?)

> digestive enzymes (pills?)

> humic acid (Avirol? cannot find for human consumption))

> iodine (liquid?)

> turmeric (extract? powder? spice?)

> lugols (liquid iodine? solution?)

> SSKI (potassium iodide? liquid?)

> borax (baking soda? cannot find borax except bleach? cannot find for human consmption)

Are these powders? liquids? etc.
Thank you!"

11/03/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Leela:

> manganese sulfate (GLC 2000 Capsules (Human Use Only) - 240/bottle?)

Must be grounded to a powder, but maybe minimally useful. I prefer a pure form, since they sometimes add those calcium phosphate and stearates to prevent their absorption.

> digestive enzymes (pills?)

Capsules.

> humic acid (Avirol? cannot find for human consumption))

I used the powdered ones, with good certificate of analysis, regardless if it's human or livestocks, or nursery shops. It seems to work better for some reason or another in nursery shops. I always make physical examination and analysis papers. It's more safer that way at least for me.

> iodine (liquid?)

Lugol's solution has both iodine and potassium iodide all in one bottle.

> turmeric (extract? powder? spice?)

Curcumin works the best, the next best is extract or powder. If I can't get those, then spice. In any event, most are ok.

> lugols (liquid iodine? solution?)

solution.

> SSKI (potassium iodide? liquid?)

potassium iodide is better on account I can mixed it with the lugol's solution (10% potassium iodide), but liquid is also acceptable.

> borax (baking soda? cannot find borax except bleach? cannot find for human consmption)

Borax is usually available in U.S. as 10 mule team is the ones most used. In thailand i buy from a drug store, pharma grade.

Are these powders? liquids? etc.

Borax is always powder and has many names, the ones with a hydrate name dissolves better in water."

SAW PALMETTO

1 YEA

08/20/2009: Melinda from Campbellsville, Ky writes: "Help! Does anyone out there know if it's harmful in any ways for women to take saw palmetto? Thyroid's done a number on my hair. Looking for ways to hopefully get it back. Always thought SP was a men's herb. Any info regarding this would be helpful. Please feel free to email me about it. Thanks!"

08/22/2009: Kelly from Atlanta, Ga replies: "Melinda, Saw Palmetto is definitely safe for women to take. It is one of the top ingredients in a lot of herbal breast enhancement formulas for women. I have taken Saw Palmetto for months at a time before and never had any side effects (never got bigger breasts either!) ;-)"

08/22/2009: Noelle from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Usa replies: "Melinda, forget Saw Palmetto. Saw Palmetto regnerates tissue. There's some conflicting information out there, but it does not appear to be safe for women to take, especially if you have fibroids or endometriosis, and most especially if you don't know it!

I went through nine years of hell with hair loss, which started at perimenopause. I would be out to dinner with a friend and hunks of hair would fall into my plate. I'd wash my hair and would fill up the toilet bowl with the hair that would come out. (And yes, I originally had a ton of hair, below the shoulder in length and very thick.) This wasn't just a general thinning, but patchy fallout and breakage. Every winter the hair would change texture, get hard as a rock and break off at the roots at the left side of the crown and at the nape of the neck. When I couldn't hide the damage, I wore wigs. I wore wigs for five out of those nine years. Doctors and herbalists couldn't find the cause. My thyroid checked out normal on blood tests; I did not have a fungal infection of the scalp. I tried everything I could think of: MSM worked for a little while, so did Black Walnut Hull tincture. I had some luck with Black Cohosh for a year, then it rebounded on me and I had to stop.

Finally, in 2006, a friend of mine sent me to a lecture on adrenal fatigue. I later had myself "spit" tested for levels of estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, thyroid hormones, cortisol and DHEA. Well, it turns out that at 5PM each day, I had no cortisol. Zip, nada. My adrenals were in trouble and there was no way they could take over and compensate for the lowered hormone output of menopause. The protocol for raising levels of cortisol is to take DHEA and Pregnenalone (sp?). Unfortunately, between slop bucket hot flashes, extreme fatigue and flipping out, I was too sensitive to take those "precursor" hormones.

Four months after this, I got very sick with Bronchitis and could not get rid of it for three months. A herbalist I was seeing for the Bronchitis decided that my problems were nutritional and prescribed a herbal mix that I was to take as nutrients and not as medicine. Well, my body didn't react too well to that, either, so I decided to buy the herbs in bulk and try them one by one to see which one was disagreeing with me. One of the herbs was RED RASPBERRY LEAF, WHICH ALONG WITH KELP, GAVE ME MY HAIR BACK!!!! It was noticeable within days. I started the tea in March; by early May my hair had filled in enough that I was able to cut my hair in a short style and ditch the wig. Red Raspberry is known as a female tonic and mild alterative that tones the uterus, stops hemorrhages and diarrhea, reduces fevers, cures mouth ulcers and stimulates hair growth. It's delicious, inexpensive and you don't need much of it.

Purchase Red Raspberry Leaf in bulk at any reputable herb store or coop. When buying Kelp in bulk, get the granulated kind that looks like pepper. The fine powder Kelp is too clumpy and doesn't mix or sprinkle well.

Formula:

Put 1/2 teaspoon of Raspberry Leaf in infuser or strainer.
Pour boiling water in cup to cover. Steep for 10 minutes, or if you like, to lukewarm.
Drink a cup of this twice a day. When your hair is recovered, reduce to once a day.

Kelp: 1/4 teaspoon twice a day; once in AM, once in late afternoon. Just put it on the spoon and follow with a big glass of water, or sprinkle it on your food. Can cause sleeplessness if taken in evening. Can also take 1/2 teaspoon once a day. Adjust dosage depending on how it effects you.

Another thing that's helpful -- switch to an organic shampoo and conditioner. Especially conditioner! You'll notice a difference right away. My hair texture really changed; it became much more elastic! Some "organics" are really organic and some are not. If you email me, I'd be glad to tell you what I used. If you go to Organic Consumer website you should be able to find a link to a list of products that are NOT AUTHENTIC or are contaminated with toxins, so you can screen any hair products you are interested in against the list.

I realize this is long, but I thought the story needed to be told. It wasn't until last year on an annual physical that it was discovered that I had hundreds of tiny cysts on my thyroid, yet all my numbers were still normal. Red Raspberry might work for you. Good luck, Melinda."

08/22/2009: T from Baltimore, Md, USA replies: "Hair loss can be hormonally or nutritionally caused, or possibly medicinally or environmentally caused, or a combination of any/all of these. Figuring out why you're losing hair will help you determine your own course of action. That said, here's a few observations.

Herbals for hormonal causes - I don't personally recall seeing that saw palmetto shouldn't be taken by women, but I've read that it can *potentially* cause weight gain. If that's a concern, an alternative to try could be nettle root and pygeum. And take with lysine, as lysine has been shown to boost the effectiveness of DHT blockers. Ensure adequate zinc intake as zinc is also a DHT blocker, but keep in mind that it is very important to balance zinc with copper (2mg copper to every 30mg of zinc).

Nutritional - Top of the list in my opinion is to have your ferritin levels checked, particularly as low ferritin is common in thyroid problems, which you mentioned having. Ferritin is the stored iron in the body, and is present in hair follicles. You can actually have normal serum iron but low ferritin, so it's the ferritin you want checked for this. Low ferritin can result in hair loss, and if you're low you won't successfully regrow much no matter what you do until the levels are improved. Ferritin levels should be at least 70-90. I wouldn't suggest iron supplementation until you know your status for sure (especially for men), as excess iron can be dangerous. In your diet, have some orange juice or something with vitamin C in it when consuming iron-rich foods like red meats, spinach etc., as vitamin C aids iron absorption. Avoid tea for awhile after iron intake as the tannins in tea can block iron absorption - same goes for wine.

With your thyroid you might also check into whether you have adequate selenium and iodine intake as these are vital to thyroid function. There's a vicious circle with thyroid and ferritin problems, so you'd want to address all sides.

Let's not forget that the basics count here too - a good overall diet, stress reduction, organic shampoos, etc. And TIME! Hair can take awhile to show changes.

Best of luck, and please let us know what you find works for you!"

08/22/2009: Loraine from Orlando, Fl replies: "Noelle: thanks for all the wonderful information you shared with your story. Coincidentally, i was just reading about red raspberry tea but was unsure if i could use it since i have both thyroid and adrenal issues. Can you let me know what you used to fix your adrenals? I really need help in this area. Thank you and God bless.

Loraine"

08/23/2009: Noelle from Minneapolis, Mn, Usa replies: "Lorraine: There should not be any reason why you can't use Red Raspberry Leaf tea. I don't think it affects the thyroid per se. It just fixes some of the problems caused by hormone imbalance, and adds minerals and B vitamins that might be depleted due to glands not functioning properly. It's the kelp that affects the thyroid and stops hair fallout cold. Raspberry Leaf grows the hair and makes it shiny.

As for my adrenal problem, it's not entirely fixed. Underlying infections can pull adrenal function down. I had a huge double abscess tooth removed last year, but I was disappointed that my energy did not increase. I seem to be carrying a virus that we cannot identify and have allergies that occasionally fog my head so much I walk into walls. (Claritin-D cuts that one right quick!) I was tested by a hematologist for everything they could think of. Allopathically, my bloodwork was normal. I ran the results by a naturopath: two indicators pointed to either parasites or low iron or both. Nobody seems to want to believe I have parasites! I'm currently using Bill Munro's H2O2 inhalation method. Its been two weeks; my energy is a little better, but I'm not seeing spectacular results yet. So . . . I'm still working on it!"

10/28/2009: Al from Boward, Fl replies: "T from Baltimore, you seem to know enough about hair loss. I was wondering what kind of doctor can I go to check my ferretin level out.

Noelle from Minneapolis, I too suffer from allergies and at times I get fungus on my feet. I am also losing hair. Ive tried everything. Any suggestions?"

11/06/2009: T from Maryland, Usa replies: "Hi Al,

Everything I know about hair loss is pretty much in that post above ;) Your regular doctor can order you a ferritin blood test, or you can order one yourself online through various places. If I may say the name here, I have personally used HealthCheck USA online a few times for various bloodwork. It's a very fast and easy service and totally legit. You get the blood drawn at the same labs the doctors send you to (like LabCorp); the only difference is that it's WAY cheaper than going through the doc if you're uninsured and paying out of pocket as I was, and the results go to you directly.

Assuming by your name that you are male, if you do end up needing to supplement with iron due to low ferritin levels, get rechecked periodically to ensure your levels don't go too high.

The foot fungus and allergy issues you mentioned - have you looked into candida? That could possibly contribute to hair loss as well. There's a lot of info here on EC about candida.

Good luck!"

[YEA]  09/07/2007: John from Mount Washington, USA writes: "I can't recall how I came across this, but Saw Palmetto supplemental capsules work great for BPH. Common directions are 2 caps in the morning and 2 in the evening. I mentioned this to my father who told me he had already been taking Saw Palmetto for years to keep from having to get up during the night to urinate. Upon more research, I found that Saw Palmetto is a DHT blocker. DHT is what causes hair loss. I was getting a thin spot in my crown when I started taking Saw Palmetto. Six months to a year later, my wife asked if I was using Rogaine! I asked why and she said she noticed I no longer had a thin spot. I again mentioned this to my father and he increased his dosage. At 75 years old, he has noticed his hair becoming thicker. Hope this helps everyone."

12/13/2008: Chris from SLP, Ca replies: "ive heard that saw palmetto can stop androgenic hair loss. but it can have serious consequences and that it may not work. but either way actual fda approved products like propecia have saw palmetto extract."

SELENIUM, COCONUT OIL

1 YEA

[YEA]  12/18/2008: Dan from Bullhead City, Arizona writes: "I have found that taking Selenium nearly completely stopped my hair loss. With Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, I saw a little hair re-growth - not to mention a fantastic improvement in my overall skin and scalp health.

Mine is typical male pattern baldness, but it started when I was only 16 after a tough bout with Walking Pneumonia. I'm now 39 years old. Hair loss began early with me, most likely by way of an internal systemic fungal infestation that was allowed to flourish in the wake of the heavy antibiotics I was given for Pneumonia.

Read Ted From Thailand's comments on hair loss and causes. You need to detox and get heavy metals out of your body first, then treat with natural anti-fungal remedies and supplements.

When taking 400mcg of Selenium and two to four tablespoons of Organic Virgin Coconut (internally) each day, I saw some very modest hair regrowth. Just some; not a lot. I also was taking as many tablets of Acidophilus as I could to fight fungus in the body, since I don't think there's a way to overdose on Acidophilus.

Consistency is the key. I am not as consistent as I need to be, unfortunately. To see real results, I have to take the Selenium and Coconut Oil each and every day.

Scalp itching is part of my hair loss, and treating itching topically with coconut oil helps a lot.

It is my hunch that if you have dandruff, acne, hair loss, brittle hair, flakes in your eyebrows and crust around your nose or in your ears, you probably have a fungal infection. Again, read Ted From Thailand's recommendations."

06/05/2009: Chance from Charlotte, North Carolina replies: "Hello I was wondering if you could tell me what form of selenium did you use. Was it selenium yeast, selenomethionine, selenite, etc. Cngratulations on your wonderful results."

EC: Read about potential side effects (rare liver reactions) here: http://www.itmonline.org/arts/hsw_alert.htm

"The four published reports cited in the alert all mention Shou Wu Pian; this is a product manufactured in Shanghai; there are also several manufacturers who have more recently copied the product. It is reputed to contain 100% Ho Shou Wu, but the actual content in the Shanghai preparations is not known. The report also mentions the recent cases involving Shen Min—a product made of several ingredients (including vitamins), with extract of Ho Shou Wu as a central herbal component—and Shou Wu Wan, which is a formula that is said to contain Ho Shou Wu plus a dozen other herbs."

[NAY]  10/28/2009: Al from Broward, Fl replies: "HI, I tried Fo-Ti (Ho-Shou-Wu) which i guess is the same as SHU WU PAIN, and I did not notice any hair growth or niether did it help with my hair loss. I did notice that more hair fell off and even thinned more. while taking this supplement i noticed that my feet started to dry up. I would not recommend this."

TED'S REMEDIES

1 QUESTION

08/10/2009: Luca1979 from Birmingham, Warwickshire, England writes: "Hi there,

I have just read Ted's threads as well as all the other people that have contributed to this site. I am a 29 yr old male living in England and for the past several years been suffeeing with hair loss. I put on a brave face and have a bit of a laugh about my hair loss but deep down, it is very frustrating, hurts and a lot of my confidence has gone. i have tried saw palmetto tablets and fenugreek (2 tablets aday each) but I don't think it has made any difference. My hair is thinning from the front and on the top of my head (top is getting worse!). It seems to have got worse in the past year.

I don't want to take any drugs for it or undertake surgery. I'd like a natural remedy. There are many remedies on this site and I would like suggestions and advice from 'Ted' (who seems very educated about this area) or any other people who can tell me which supplements to take or what remedies to carryout and how much and when to take it. I just need clear instructions on what to do. There are a lot of remedies here but is making me confused as which one to carryout. Ideally, I'd like to stop hair loss but would be amazing for my hair to grow!

This is the first site that has been really useful and replies from sincere people. I am not expecting a magical cure but I am willing to try anything to help my situation.

If you can help me in any way or advise me, I would be very grateful indeed.

Thanks"

[YEA]  02/21/2007: David from Orange County, CA writes: "I DISCOVERED THIS SIT BECAUSE I HAD A SCALP INFECTION AND WANTED TO FIND OUT HOW I COULD CURE IT. I STARTED TO TAKE THE ACV AND BAKING SODA INTERNALLY THAT TED SUGGESTS. I FELT REALLY GOOD AND IT SEEMED TO HELP A LOT. I PUT SOME ACV ON MY HEAD AS WELL AND I DON'T KNOW IF I WORKED. I ALSO TRIED THE PEROXIDE ON MY HEAD BUT I HASN'T REALLY DONE MUCH EITHER. I HAD READ THAT EUCALYPTUS OIL IS REALLY GOOD, SO I REALIZED THAT VIC'S VAPOR RUB HAS EUCALYPTUS OIL IN IT SO I PUT SOME ON MY HEAD AND IT HAD THE GREATEST EFFECT THAN ANYTHING I TRIED. I CAN SAY THAT I WENT TO THE NUTRITIONAL STORE TO BUY THE TEA TREE OIL THAT TED SUGGESTED, BUT UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME I LISTENED TO THE HOMEOPATHIC DOCTOR THERE AND DIDN'T BUY IT. INSTEAD I BOUGHT THE PILLS HE SUGGESTED AND THE OINTMENT THAT CONTAINED ALISON, I GUESS IT'S AN EXTRACT FROM GARLIC, WHICH IS ALSO SUPPOSE TO CLEAN YOUR BLOOD. THAT DIDN'T SEEM TO HELP AT ALL SO I STARTED RUBBING ON THE VIC'S AGAIN. I AM GOING TO BUY THE TEA TEA TREE OIL AND MAYBE EUCALYPTUS OIL. I ALSO HAVE TO MENTION, THAT I HAD BLOOD WORK DONE THERE AT THE HEALTH FOOD STORE AND MY BLOOD WAS REALLY CLEAN. HE SAID THAT HE NEVER GETS TO SEE SUCH HEALTHY BLOOD AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED! I HAD BEEN TAKING THE ACV AND BAKING SODA FOR AT LEAST A MONTH THOUGH, SO I GUESS IT REALLY WORKED. I USE TO HAVE A LITTLE BITE OF LOWER BACK PAIN AND THAT EVEN WENT AWAY. [YEA]  01/23/2007: Dan from Yorba Linda, CA writes: "Hair loss is one of the hardest things to cure, but Ted's remedy successfully cured my hair loss. Using lavender and tea tree oil once a week helps a lot. Taking vitamin C is one of the best thing to stop your hair loss and drinking soy milk which is high in manganese also helps to stop hair loss. i would also suggest to wash your with apple cider vinegar and take biotin at least 1000amu. well if all this can help me, it can help you too. Thanks a lot Ted"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Dan: Thanks for the feedback. Biotin helps quite a bit. My own mother who is 76 years old had a hair loss and a simple remedy of vitamin C and baking soda. Borax used as a shampoo instead works better than the medicated shampoos in general, however, I prefer to leave the borax overnight after shampooing with borax then rinse the next morning."

[YEA]  11/17/2006: Geoff from Thailand writes: "I tried a formula of oral and topical solutions recommended by Ted (Bangkok). This included (orally) magnesium, zinc, manganese, etc. and a topical solution. This stopped my hair loss within less than 2 weeks. The frontal area began to fill up shortly after. The temple regions remain hairless (after 2 months) as these have been bald for some time now. However, hair is filling up in the central front region between the temples. I recommend contacting Ted for details if you can access the minerals he suggests. That may be the most difficult part. I'm very happy with the results I have from these solutions he has provided me with, and his topical solution is an excellent choice for those wishing to not to spend loads of money on cheap, weak, ineffective pharmaceutical products. Furthermore, I am disappointed with the lack of information concerning the causes of hair loss for men; DHT theory and alpha-reductase info is not sufficient. Ted approaches issues like fungus in the scalp, DHT etc. The Traditional Chinese Medicine point of view that kidney and blood deficiencies seem also to explain an appropriate reason for some cases of MPB. Where has the creative thought gone?? Thanks to Ted for his formula. Cheers"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Most people I know around here do not post a lot of information, so I ended up posting everything myself! Basically, the same information I posted at earthclinic was what helped him. DHT for example can be suppressed by adding azelaic acid and tretenoic acid to the scalp along with a 2.5% minoxidil compound. Regular supplements of manganese will stop the hair from falling out. Taking zinc will increase the body immune and prevent auto immunity against the hair follicles. So as you see immune suppression for other disease is not the way to go, it is increasing one's level of zinc to stop the auto immunity problems."

WARNING -- PLEASE READ RECIPES CAREFULLY!

1 WARNING!

[WARNING!]  01/04/2008: Mary from Newark, New Jersey writes: "Dear Earth Clinic, I just wanted to let you know that I think on Ted's Posts it should say in bold at the beginning, or where it can't be missed to read the recipes carefully. I had a small bald spot on my head, found this website, and read some things Ted wrote. I read something about hydrogen peroxide and acv for scalp problems and hair loss. It did not say how much to use in the blurb I read. I thought I would try it. Well I just made a solution up and put it on my head. Left it on overnight. Well, Now I am loosing all my hair!!! So this was not a remedy in the little problem I had, instead, it is causing all my hair to fall out. I would like to spare future readers from this, so please put a warning, and make sure people read Ted's postings very carefully, and if they do not see a recipe, have them contact Ted before just making one up themselves. I know most people would be more careful, but there are us haphazard people out here you know. Thank you."
