GENERAL FEEDBACK
07/09/2011: Elchay12 from Milwaukee, Wi writes: "My nerves (worries, anxious etc. ) are really bad, which leaves me scratching my scalp all day. Over the last two months my hair started falling out (experiencing hair loss) due to my scratching it all day (due to nrevousness). Will the ACV hydrogen peroxide help with my hair loss?"

GRASS OIL
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 12/04/2009: Zk85 from Khobar, Saudi Arabia writes: "I am surprised this is not mentioned or known about much.
To cure hair loss and have hair regrowth, the Bedouin here use grass oil (like normal grass in your garden turned into oil... it is a very thick oil.. just a bit thicker than olive oil sometimes as thick, if you get one that is watery know you have been cheated and its mixed with water or other things)
It is so effective I am 26 years old and I could never grow a full goatee ( always wanted one :P ) so I used it for about a week on the empty area and hair grew where none was!
To use it on the head apply daily or once every other day with good enough amount to spread over your scalp and massage it in leave it in from 4 to 6 hours for about a month should be enough to notice real difference... I am not kidding this thing is WORTH the trouble, we don't have many scientists in this country if we did and they studied this i am SURE they would have extracted what ever is in there that makes it work so damn well and cured baldness already.
warning though this stuff is green and it drips so make sure you don't stain your cloths :) but i promise you this is one mess you wont regret :D"
RepliesEC: Hi Zk85. Is there another name for this grass oil? We see that citronella, lemongrass, and palmarosa essential oils are each made from grass. However, lemongrass oil is the one we see listed as being manufactured in Saudi Arabia.
12/10/2009: Anonomous from Falling Pines, America replies: "I also googled this every way possible and cannot find any information. I wanted to bring back up the subject to see if anyone else knows, where this grass oil can be purchased or if it can be made.
It's weird, how some people post here and you never hear from them again."
EC: Yep, we googled this extensively too. We're guessing it's lemongrass oil. If you google "lemongrass for hair loss" you will see it mentioned on several websites.
12/10/2009: Stacey from Greensboro, Nc replies: "I've found a US patent for the use of vetiver grass for hair restoration: (http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6193976.html)
Vetiver is in the same family as lemongrass."
12/11/2009: Judy from High Point, Nc replies: "I found vetiver oil at iherb.com, made by Aura Cacia company"
[SIDE EFFECTS] 12/15/2009: Saba from Mento, Oh replies: "I found lemongrass oil in whole food store in the oil essentials section. Tried to use it on my scalp (for thinning hair) a few drops and BOY Oh BOY! it burned my scalp so much I couldn't even hold it for 2 minutes. I had to jump in the show and wash it off."
[WARNING!] 12/15/2009: Juliette from Santa Fe, New Mexico replies: "I am an aromatherapist - please never use undiluted essential oils on your skin or hair; they can burn (as you now know!) If you want to try the lemon grass oil again, dilute it in a carrier oil - anything you have around the house will do, the carrier oil will also have benefits so try to use a cold pressed, unrefined oil. A good rule of thumb is about 6 drops to a tablespoon full of oil. Essential oils are wonderful in healing, but they need respect - I should know - I still sometimes burn myself if I add too much basil oil to the bath; more is not always better!"
12/16/2009: Saba from Mentor, Oh replies: "Thanks Juliette, I will do just that - I have cold pressed coconut oil. I'll mix it and try again. I have female hair loss on the front top of my hair. I just started a week ago to wash with borax and consume a tea spoon of the coconut oil. I've been taking Apple Cider Vinegar and Blackstrap Molasses and honey for 3 weeks now and I love it. I love EC and all of you. To come across this website has been a great blessing."
[YEA] 08/10/2010: Shamayam from Evanston, Il replies: "I am 24 yrs old and my husband is 30 yrs old. We moved out the country and found some green grass oil for hair loss. Already we have seen results, me after 4 washes and him after only 2. His slight baldness he was starting have from all his hair cuts is now gone and my hair is growing healthier and faster. I researched the oil for friends in the states but couldn't find it. However, the ingredients in the oil are: Green Herb Oil, Saturated & Unsaturated fatty acids, Provitamin A, and Vitamin E. We love it and use it every time we wash our hair, which is every 2 weeks. We wash our hair and then massage the oil into the scalp (enough to cover the entire head) and then add conditioner to our hair. We let it sit in for about 15-20 minutes and rinse out with warm water. I hope this helps some of you"
09/17/2010: Bill from Philly, Pa replies: "How about telling us the name of the product. There must be a company name on the bottle somewhere. And an address or a phone number or a website. I think it's a little strange how everybody keeps saying how fast and simple it is to grow hair with this stuff but nobody actually tells you anything. It's just "Go out and get some and in a few weeks your hair will be growing back" Sounds more like someone playing games. As usual you never hear from them again. Like the story about growing hair with carrot juice."
06/08/2011: Kelly Colby from Dallas, Tx replies: "I searched for Grass Oil and found that it can be purchased through some India(n) stores. I also came across a recipe that looks like it is pretty straight forward.Mix 63 ml. of the juice of green grass in 250 ml. of coconut oil, boil it. Let it cool down, strain and use it for massaging the body or scalp."

HAIR LOSS AND WILSON'S SYNDROME
04/16/2010: Pr from Houston, Texas, Usa writes: "For the last year I have been experiencing hair loss and have tried every remedy on EC with no help. Hopefully I think I have finally found the answer to my problem thanks to EC and those who post here. One day someone posted info on Wilson's Syndrome and I followed up on researching it.
The short of Wilson's Syndrome is you can have all the symptoms of low thyroid but your blood work is fine. The key is low oral temperature below 98.6 on a regular basis which I had. I talked to my doctor and she said she treated this and even had a blood test to check for Wilson's syndrome. With Wilson's syndrome your body is unable to use the T3 your thyroid produces so the treatment is T3.
I have just started to take the T3 twice a day. Internet info says 12 hours apart. Also I was extremely fatigue more so than usual as I have been working on getting rid of CFS and Fibromyalgia. Actually it felt as if I had fallen into a big black hole and couldn't get out. Thanks again EC because I had not heard of Wilson's Syndrome and my doctor didn't look for it with my history of CFS and Fib."

HAIR LOSS FROM FUNGUS
08/30/2010: Adam from Sherman Oaks, Ca writes: "Hi Ted, I have been reading your all your comments on earth clinic about hair loss and I need your advice. I believe that I have fungus or something that is causing the sides of my head to grow in patches. Basically I have like like one normal hair and next to it a baby hair which doesn't seem to grow anymore... Now I am wondering in your opinion what can be the cause of this? Can this be Calicum buildup or fungus? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Adam"

HAIR LOSS FROM RINGWORM
Ratings:
|
[QUESTION] 03/23/2010: Haddasah from Sydney, Australia writes: "I have hair loss at the back of my neck, especially on the left side. I thought it was from the turtle necks I love to wear. Now I have a bald spot on the right crown of my head. Additionally, my hair near my right ear is thinning. I now remember I got ringworm from hairclippers on the back left of my head many years ago. In 2006 I noticed a bump in both the spots where my hair is gone. I have started using tea tree oil, rosemary oil, lavender and baking soda. Please advise me if I absolutely need to see a doctor for an oral drug to cure my scalp. After 5 or more years, is it possible for my hair to come back. It has only come out completely in the last year. Prior to that it just itched and thinned. As a woman I need my hair! Thank you."

HAIR TRANSPLANTATION
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 10/30/2008: Mike from Sofia, Bulgaria writes: "I have to say I am surprised nobody has mentioned hair transplantation. All the remedies above are fine but I don't see many MEN who had a total regrowth of hair. I lost a large portion of my hair by the time I was 38. I had a transplant of about 5800 hairs from the back of my head to the top.
Now I have a full head of hair and don't need to worry about it anymore. It's been an amazing boost to my self confidence. If you have the money, do your research on the forums and find a top surgeon.
WARNING: There are many bad surgeons out there. A bad transplant is worse than no transplant as you can end up with a bad result and a nasty scar - so do your research!"

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE, VICKS VAPOR RUB
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 02/28/2009: Rod writes: "Ted: Something going on with a mixture of h2o2 and vicks (on skin). heals skin super fast and also speeds up hair growth. i'm trying 10 drops of h2o2 three times a day but getting some constipation. i guess i need more fiber. trying vicks for wrinkles also."
Replies03/02/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "The vicks on skin or scalp helps with getting a skin rehydrated -as vicks major component is vaseline, while eucalyptus oil have some limited antifungal as it also degrades to hydrogen peroxide also, so it kill both bacteria and fungus. Borax used a shampoo has the same property in killing off the fungus, but not retnetion of moistue. Also a borax with 0.5% hydrogen peroxide as a shampoo, can also helped, but I used a vaseline, instead of eucalyptus oil (the vicks) as some people are too sensitive to use this kind of remeay over a week. In excess that may also kill off the hair roots. We just use enough to kill without harming the hair. My own application of tea tree with lavender or alone on scalp is only once or twice application only so much less then a week's time to do its job. Vitamin C is important in basic hairloss as it helps collagen formation and makes the hair roots more stronger. As to the h2o2 drops taken internally helps rid of fungus and pathogens in the blood, as well as oxygenate teh blood, so this helps with hair loss.
However, I also believe tin deficiency is one of the causes, a tin supplement isn't easy to acquire either and the dose is quite low, such as 1 mg. The only way I see to get an amino acid chelated tin is to get a real tin can, or a tin metal and soak them in a soy sauce. A soy sauce is actually amino acids which will chelate them in very low amount and use them as a food flavoring added for soups. Tin deficiency is relatively low in Asian perhaps because of the use of tin in cups and cans, while tin is a deficiency since the switchover to the use of aluminum cans and plastic lined canned, which by they way are the source of estrogen, in the form of bisphenol A, which I believe is unhealthy for hair growth and weight loss also. Also Western culture use a lot of carpets, which is a mjaor source of fungus, that also leads to hair loss too.
I have found woman who take progesterone help with hair loss, but it becomes an addiction. If discontinued, hair loss gets worse. So in men, one other common cause is hormonal imbalance, which in some instances magnesium and boron (from borax) supplementation often helps normalizes this condition and helps with hair growth. Peroxide cleans the blood increase oxygen in the blood also. This can be proven through medical examination where blood's oxygen capacity does increase after taking peroxide drops. Hydrogen peroxide is amazingly stable and don't degrade easily in low dilution where water is also free from free heavy metals. If it is high, they tend to degrade quickly into numerous air bubbles which came from an old rusty faucet, or a old rusty water filter. Luckily today Iand unlucky at the same time), most water filter are now from plastics, but certain water filter again may generate bisphenol A if the wrong kinds of plastic were used. There's no way we can find out without proper analysis on that one and water filter companies don't even have to disclose whether some of the water filter are bisphenol free, or other contaminants from it's production. In any case, I think its still better then the metal filter ones.
Ted"
11/26/2009: Kathy from Sandy, Ut, USA replies: "Is the hydrogen peroxide you use a food grade or pharmaceutical grade or just the stuff in drug store aisles?"

IODINE, ONION JUICE

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 03/21/2011: Marina from Dubai, Uae writes: "I read on the site that Ted recommends iodine solution to be applied to the scalp. I have hypothyroid which was not diagnosed by any doctor for almost 15 years, and suspect that that's how I lost 75% hair (female pattern baldness with thinning all over). Now I am on Armour (natural dessicated thyroid hormone) but I guess it will take time for my hair loss to be reversed (if at all that can happen).
I read about Ted's iodine solution and tried it. I applied iodine solution all over my scalp and I must admit, it did wonders to my hair. I can almost immediately tell when my hair is benefiting from something and the next morning, my hair looked darker (i have brown-black hair), thicker and healthier. Plus, I was more energetic the next morning (definitely because iodine works for thyroid). I also have been reading on this one remedy which a lot of people swear by (i don't know if it's been mentioned anywhere on this site)... Onion juice applied topically. I know that under ayurveda, onion juice for scalp has been recommended. I started this from today and did notice my hair looking healthier and thicker. Apparantly it takes upto 4-6 months when applied 2-3 times a week but the upside is that it's affordable home remedy and needs to be applied for only 20 mts before being washed off. Someone said that in Romania onion juice and garlic juice are very popular for reversing baldness. I do see something in it, as onion and garlic have sulpher. The smell might make you think twice, but some people recommend using lemon juice after washing hair (to take the smell off). Hope I am regular with it for the next 4-6 months and hope it helps others too."

IT'S IN THE WATER
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 07/02/2007: skip from Washington, DC writes: "YES I can vouch that since I came to AMERICA my hair are falling. The water here has either chlorine or too much remnants of estrogen wich causes hair loss and feminizing men!"
Replies10/12/2011: Sayno2gmo from Vancouver, Bc, Canada replies: "I agree that chlorine and other chemicals in the water are contributing to hair loss and other health issues.I've been researching this lately, and find many people notice softer, healthier skin, hair and scalp after purchasing a shower filter.
These standard filters will eliminate chlorine, but not chloramine which some cities use now, for chloramine treated water supply you need a vitamin C filtration system, but can be expensive as filters only last about 1 month.
The best would be to get a whole house water filtration system, but not everyone has $2-5000 to spend on this."

JAMAICAN BLACK CASTOR OIL
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 08/14/2011: Lady English from Brooklyn, New York, Usa writes: "Speak to anybody from the Caribbean, and almost all of them will tell you about Jamaican Black Castor Oil for growing, thickening and moisturizing the hair. The castor oil beans are boiled, and used as a hair pomade. It has an awful smell, is thick, but it does grow your hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, etc. For caucasian hair it is best to use Jamaican Black Castor Oil, with Peppermint as the peppermint combats the greasiness, and the presence of the menthol gives a cooling effect to the scalp, binds the hair roots & increases blood circulation. The resulting stimulation of your hair follicles culminates in a renewed and reinvigorated hair growth cycle!
Jamaican Black Castor Oil, infused with Peppermint WILL grow and thicken the most thinning hair, it's worked for thousands."

08/18/2011: Joyce from Lansdowne, Pa replies: "I found it on Amazon.com. I believe if you visit any of the Caribbean stores you will find it."

JOYCE'S REMEDIES
02/03/2010: Joyce from Joelton, Tn writes: "Hello Deirdre,
I have been visiting my favorites since answering Cindy's email and thought I would give you some information found to pass on to all EC'ers with hair loss problems. I will e-mail you the articles I gleaned the information from in case you want to read them afterwards, but I will give a short shot of helpful hints that I think will be all that most of our EC family will want. Going to the plant database I found several chemicals listed as anti-alopecics (anti-baldness).
They are linoleic acid, palmitic acid, inositol, oleic acid, linoleic acid and zinc.
Zinc is found in meats, seafoods, dairy products, nuts, legumes, whole grains and you'll even find 23 parts per million of zinc in turmeric or curcumin, and 13-17 parts per million in the coconut. If you take zinc supplements it is recommended that you not take more than 50 mgm. per day and stay with zinc gluconate as it consistently holds the lowest amount of cadmium which naturally occurs with it. (Cadmium is that toxic metal in the news now because it is being found in children's and adult jewelry made in India and China). Zinc has many other functions besides preventing hair loss, but this what we are concerned with today. You can easily search them on line to learn the others.
Inositol is "vital for hair growth", also combines with choline to form lecithin and reduces cholesterol. It's calming effect on the nervous system is thought to have an effect on depression, panic attacks obsessive-compulsive disorder and bipolar affective disorder (used to be called manic-depressive disorder), plays a role in preventing and treating cancer, improves nerve conduction velocity in diabetics, and used in constipation therapy by improving peristalti action. Inositol is found in dried beans, calves liver, cantaloupes, citrus fruits (except for lemons), garbanzo beans (chick peas), lecithin granules, nuts, oats, pork, rice, veal and whole grains. The resin, exudate and sap of the coconut palm has 690 parts per million of inositol.
The coconut (seed) also has 584-18,694 parts per million of another anti-alopecic chemical called linoleic acid. Our lovely, tasty coconut also has 770 parts per million of magnesium in its seed which adds another long list of anti-chemicals to this coconut. The coconut hull husk also has lignin 294,000 parts per million which is antibacterial, anticancer, anticoronary, anti-diarrheic, anti-HIV, antioxidant, antitumor, antiviral, chelator, hypocholesterolemic, laxative, and pesticide. Over consumption of caffeine products (carbonated beverage drinkers may be getting more than the coffee drinkers) or prolonged taking of antibiotics can decrease the body's supply of inositol.
Fatty acids in foods are incoporated into complex lipids such as triglycerides, cholesterol esters, and phospholipids. Our bodies can synthesize some fatty acids in adipose tissue and the liver. It cannot synthesize some essential fatty acids: linoleic acid (Omega 6) or alpha-linoleic acid (Omega 3). Both Omega 3 and Omega 6 are found in vegetable oils like corn and canola. Walnuts are also a good source of alpha-linoleic acid.
Pork has 40% saturated fatty acids (SFA)
45% monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA)
15% polyunsaturated faty acids (PUFA)
Olive Oil has 14% SFA
74% MUFA
12% PUFA
Good old avocados are also rich in antialopecics. So to all of you who want more hair, improve your diets and if necessary, supplement with the above nutrients."

L-LYSINE, BIOTIN, AND BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 01/14/2009: Terri from Nanaimo, BC Canada writes: "I am just starting to try the ACV this week so will let all know how it works for me. I am writing to let everyone know what has finally worked for me after dealing with thinning hair for 20 years now. My hair has always been very fine, but starting thinning in my mid 20's.
My thinning hair has been a source of embarrassment and concern to me for many, many years. Although I eat very healthy, use all natural hair products for the most part and take supplements, nothing has helped.
I tried Nioxin which made my hair nice and shiny and healthy but did not stop the hair loss or thinning. My hair loss was so bad that it plugged the bathroom drain and I had to put a snake down the drain to clear it. When I pulled up the snake there were handfulls of hair that had been lost over time. I was really upset at that point and decided to go to the doctor and have complete blood work done thinking that I must be very low in iron. My tests all came back normal although my iron was in the low normal range. I did some reading on this site (stumbled across it) and read a testimonial from one member who said that she had started taking Lysine, biotin and iron pills for her hair loss and she had great results. I bought the biotin 5000mcg, lysine 500mg, but decided to take 1 tablespoon of blackstrap molasses instead of the iron pills (they upset my bowels).
After only 1 month I can see any incredible difference already!!!! My hair is thicker, healthier, and is filling in nicely. More importantly it does not seem to be falling out at the same rate it used to. I had almost gotten to the point that I had given up on trying to find a "natural" cure to my hair loss and was ready to consider a hairpiece or transplant when it thinned a little more.
I had been struggling with thinning hair and the lack of self confidence that goes with it (you can spend a lot of time trying to cover all the thin spots) for years. Please give this an honest try even if you are fed up with all the things that never worked. It is worth one last try and the supplements are reasonably priced and won't do your body any harm. Good Luck to all!"
03/02/2009: Al from Deerfield , Fl replies: "hey terri, did it really work? im so desperate. ive been havin the same issue sort of. ive been losing hair for about 5 years, in the frontal part of my head. its been a slow process though. right now im taking biotin, panthothenic acid, and vitamin C. im going to see how that works. so you took it for a month right? im only 26. i just hope something works out for me. any suggestions?"
[YEA] 06/01/2009: Joyce from Virginia, MN replies: "I too have been loosing my hair. I'm 58 years old, have COPD and celiac disease. I have for the most part quit eating gluten foods, but evey now and again I binge on them. I just did this. When I did, I noticed my hair falling out much heavier than normal. I stoped and the abnormal hair loss stoped. I take two tablespoons of blackstrap molasses every morning with hot water. I've also started with a teaspoon of honey mixed with ACV as well, morning and night, and notice right away that the hair loss stops. I have low energy so I began yesterday by adding cinnamon to the ACV/honey mixture. I'll see how that works for the low energy. Also, with the BSM, I've noticed a change in color in my hair. Where it was once almost all gray, it is turning back to the original dark/almost black, that it was. It's a miracle! Especially in my condition. Check for severe allergies; they might be the culprit to the hair loss and you can eliminate them then. Also, if you've gone through trauma of any kind and/or are high strung, try the honey, experiment with dosage, as it is a relaxer. It will help you sleep, too. Look for honey that is local to your area as it can also help with outdoor types of allergies."
[YEA] 01/01/2010: Vm from Dayton, Ohio replies: "I have had great success with black strap molasses and later biotin in regenerating my thinning hair. I am a 58 yo female and noticed my hair thinning on top of my head. I started taking 1 to 3 Tbl molasses and my hair started filling in and getting thicker. Later I started taking biotin from 1000 mcg to 3000 mcg a day and it also helped my hair get thicker. Both the biotin and molasses separately help my hair grow. I took molasses for about 6 months and quit taking it and then started in on the biotin for around 3 months and have hair that is about 2 1/2 inches long. I part my hair in the middle and there is new growth about 2 1/2 inches long all over my head but most noticable where I part my hair as the new growth is all the same length and the rest of my hair is shoulder length. My hair also does not fall out like it used to. Both products worked."

I am taking medication for Hypothyroidism and BP. Maybe it is the side effect of medicine which is causing hairloss. Please can someone suggest alternate medicine for my problem. I am very worried."
10/15/2011: Connie from Slc, Ut replies: "Hi Kamy; B12 stopped my unnatural hair loss. As I recall, it took about a month or so. I was also taking a low dose of B-complex. 1000 mcg of a sublingual lozenge of B12 is a good average amount to try. Many people find that after 6 mnths. Of this, they are able to reduce their thyroid meds. When the proper amount of B's are supplied, they can help balance electrolytes, which in turn may help with blood pressure. It may also help lower BP to increase potassium in diet. This should be done very carefully if the BP med. is a potassium sparing type, though."

[YEA] 06/20/2007: Joseph from toronto, canada writes: "Dear Ted, i just wanted to say you are a genius, keep up the good work, people over profit. i worked with a master healer in vancouver BC and many of your remedies are the same as hers. She taught me how much dogma and false truths exist even in the alternative community. i have had some hair thinning over the years but have been able to maintain it to a slow loss and stabilization with adequate protein and minerals. My favorite mineral supplement is pure maple syrup syspended in liquid such as herb tea. Here is a blend:
1 bag green tea with mint and
1 bag stigging nettle sweetened with maple syrup.
all water should be filtered with a brita filter.
thankx"

[SIDE EFFECTS] 09/23/2010: Maryann from Newfane, Ny, Usa writes: "Female Hair Loss - after fertility drugs
Hello & thanks for reading this!!! In November 2009 I lost almost all of my hair, after 37 years of LONG THICK hair. I took Clomid for one month and lost a 1" by 1" square of hair. The doc told me no hair loss related... And switched me to Femara... The rest fell out fairly quickly... Over the next couple months. I only took them for a total of 4 months. Later a dermatologist told me the Clomid has a 1% chance of hair loss... And the Femara has a 5% chance of hair loss. It has been almost one year since I have taken ANY of those drugs... My hair is just about gone. I have done 4 months of steriod shots in my head... I did get some growth last month... But then the new stuff recently started falling out. I had 12 viles of blood drawn... Slightly low in B, lower in D (prominant in my area)... All else was fine... Even thyroid. I think the drugs triggered some type of auto-immune in my body... And if someone could just figure out what the trigger was... Maybe it could be fixed????
I have been reading some of the remedies here... Apple cider vinger and so on. I am going to try some of them. But, I'd love to know what has had the most success......... I'm so frustrated... Some of them are such odd mixes of this and that.... I just don't know where to start. PLEASE help if you can... Thanks so much!!!"
09/24/2010: Lisa from Lafayette, La replies: "Maryann, let me first say that I am SO sorry for your troubles. I just sent up a very strong prayer of faith that you will have your hair back! That being said, I just read that MSM helps overcome autoimmune diseases. I just started my husband and myself on it today. Also, check into Hyaluronic Acid, supposed to bring youth and hair back. (look under Alfred's posts here on earthclinic! ) My suggestions to myself in this situation would be approx. 4 grams MSM to start with, and 150-200 mg. of Hyaluronic acid. Split doses morning and nite. (MSM, split morning and mid-day, no good for night time, keeps you awake! ) My sister, 36 yrs old, took Clomid for a good while, not anymore, but now is in a hair crisis herself. She too has beautiful long hair, and it is falling! She just started on HA today, and I will give her some MSM to get started on that as well. Get a GOOD brand, no dollar store or box store stuff. God bless. Lisa"
09/20/2011: Lattebreak from Quad Cities, Il replies: "Maryann, I would definitely try iodine therapy. The fact that you have fertility troubles already points to possible, even probable iodine deficiency. I have been able to get decolorized iodine at a local pharmacy (not sure if I'm allowed to say it's CVS?). I have struggled with thinning hair as a result of thyroid and other hormone problems. I have taken iodine orally for over a year which has helped with fertility and greatly improved my thyroid function, but my hair was still falling out by the handful in the shower. I started putting the iodine on my scalp with a q-tip every other night or so and within about three applications I only lost about 1/3 the amount I previously lost in the shower. It takes weeks, even months to see new growth so of course I'm still waiting for that. However, it's so nice to keep what I've already got at least! Blessings!"

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 07/06/2010: Amanda G from Oklahoma writes: "About 2 years ago I got a nickel sized bald spot that grew in 6 months to about 3 inches from one side to the other. My Dr put me on alprazolam 2 mg 3 times a day and it grew back within a few months. He said it was stress. Now I suddenly found another bald spot a little further back than the first one and it is already quarter size. I don't want to be put back on that drug because it made me feel different like drugged. This bald spot makes me break down and cry every time I see or think about it. I am so stressed about it and don't know what to do."
