BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[YEA]  10/09/2007: Jake from Chicago, IL: "Many thanks to Lucille from Jersey City. I had sensitive gums and nerves for several months after having two dental procedures - removal of an impacted and decayed wisdom tooth -lower left, and placement of a crown on a molar above. I was very sensitive to cold especially but hot as well. Oil pulling with coconut oil just three times cured it 95%. It was hard to believe after it was so sensitive it virtually went away. I rarely feel anything anymore except with extreme temperatures and I see even that declining as the days go by."

[YEA]  04/23/2007: Lucille from Jersey City, USA: "Wow! I just read this cure [oil pulling] for the first time and decided to try it with my organic coconut oil. I still can't believe it but the chronic sensitivity I had in two of my teeth is gone! It's hard to tell which teeth were hurting! And my teeth feel different."

YEA

[YEA]  05/19/2008: Jean from Franklin, WI: "I have no insurance and can't afford a dentist, so had to find a way to deal with tooth problems naturally. I've lost several fillings that occassionally cause infections. First thing I do is oil pulling with grapeseed, coconut or olive oil. Within a very short time the pain is down a fair amount, but of course the abscess is still there, filled with pus. Until that is emptied, the infection will remain. I use a dental instrument with an extremely sharp end and pierce the infected spot, then squeeze out as much of the pus as I can. This immediately cuts the pain down a whole lot more... now its just leftover soreness. I then do oil pulling again, followed by a good rinse of hydrogen peroxide. This cure works for an abscess every time.

PREVENTION: I haven't been to a dentist in over 12 years, despite the fact that I have huge holes in a few back molars due to missing fillings, and the cavities have NOT gotten worse. In fact I have fewer dental problems now. I no longer use commercial toothpastes. Obviously it would be best to have the regular mercury fillings removed and replaced... since I can't afford that procedure ... This is what I do instead...

I brush my teeth with BAKING SODA, followed by a HYDROGEN PEROXIDE rinse. Sometimes I start this with an OIL PULLING first. I often work on my teeth with just a toothbrush kind of absent-mindedly as I'm studying something on the internet. This pretty well removes most food particle and plaque. I recently bought one of those electric rechargeable toothbrushes, which works really well with the baking soda.

As long as I do these things regularly, I don't get any abscesses, cavities have not gotten any worse and may have actually gotten better, my teeth are whiter and feel cleaner, my gums are much healthier and all "pockets" have disappeared. It also prevents bad breath, and my tongue and gums are pink and healthy.

This has worked better for me than any dentist recommended procedure. I just wish I had known about it years ago. I'm absolutely sure I would have never gotten a cavity in the first place. Get rid of your commercial toothpaste and try this... you'll be glad you did!!!"

01/05/2011: Jane Buck from Portland, Ore replies: "I Totally agree!! My gums and crowns are being cleared of the bacteria that lodges under the crowns. NO ROOT CANAL!! Sorry Doc LOL. Love it. Also one receding gum is coming down tighter and it was said it would never happen. I have been using organic food grade sesame oil (not oil that flavors food dishes)but I am looking for coconut in liquid form. Spit oil in the commode. It has virus's, bacteria, parasites and only God knows what. Helps whiten teeth as well."
01/06/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Hi Jean, do you use undiluted HP to rinse your teeth with? Which strength?

Jane, I don't think that you need to find liquid coconut oil which you won't find if it is pure as it solidifies in colder temperatures. When you put it in your mouth it will liquidify in a few seconds anyway! "

01/06/2011: Tahiti from Monroeville, Pa, United States Of America replies: "Hi Jane. I too do the oil-pulling, peroxide and baking soda for mouth health. But I also add salt (using kosher presently)to the mix. Using this method keeps the teeth, tongue, gums and everything in the mouth in great shape. It also aids in fighting the bacteria that causes bad-breath. I do this routine at least once a day. I am thinking about doing this maybe twice, once in the morning and again before bed."

NAY

[NAY]  09/12/2010: Maureen from Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada: "Hi All, At my last visit to the dentist, I was told that the level 5 pockets which I have had for some time now show blood when poked, which means I need some antimicrobial injections to help save the gum from retrieving from the teeth more. I have been oil pulling daily for three years now and also use 3% hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash. I am surprised that this is a problem. I have used Bee Propolis in the past and I was unaware that it stained my teeth until the dental hygienist said I had a build-up of plaque in the back area and asked if I changed how I brush my teeth. It was a week or so later that I realized it was Bee Propolis stains not plaque so I stopped using it on my gums because of the problem and just added it to a blender drink until it was finished. I do not really want to get the injections as I would prefer to treat it naturally if possible. I have just changed the Oil I use to Pull to Castor Oil to see if that helps. Any suggestions/recommendations as to what I should do would be appreciated. Would the antimicrobial injections be ok to take? Maureen"

09/19/2010: Maureen from Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada replies: "Hi Jay, Thank you for replying to my post and providing the two links regarding Liquid Olive Leaf Extract. It was informative. I went shopping yesterday and bought a bottle of the Liquid Olive Leaf Extract. The bottle says to take 30-40 drops twice a day in water or juice so I have taken it twice yesterday and once so far today. I will update this post when the bottle is finished or I get raving reviews from the dentist whichever comes first! Maureen"
12/12/2010: Maureen from Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada replies: "This is a follow-up to my last post. It's been three months and I am on my third bottle of 50ml of liquid Olive Leaf Extract as suggested by Jay. I take it daily in water. I visited the dentist last week and was told that I still have bleeding when they poke the gum at a specific tooth. It was disappointing to hear to say the least but I will continue taking Olive Leaf Extract for a while yet. I do notice that I feel like I have the beginning of a sore throat sometimes. It is very mild. I hope it is doing something. I have not given up yet. Maureen"

OREGANO OIL

YEA

[YEA]  07/22/2008: Teresa Hartsfield from Kenedy, Texas: "I have periodontal disease and have found that brushing with oregano oil has really improved my gums and to stop tooth pain. I have stopped using toothpaste, now if I use it, I find it doesn't clean my teeth as well as the oil does and my mouth still feels "dirty". The taste does get some time to get used too. I started out by using only one drop, but now use 3 drops on my toothbrush. I bought a good quality oil, not the alcohol tincture. I first discovered brushing with oils when I researched the net and found a product that was quite expensive, I liked it, but didn't like the cost. I tried brushing with tea tree oil but found that to be very offensive, reminded me of brushing with pine sol. The oregano is quite strong, so try not to get it on the back of the throat, I'm so used to it now that I love brushing my teeth with it, then I rinse with an alcohol free mouthwash and that takes care of the oregano smell, my breath and mouth feel clean for hours, even through out the night, in the morning I awake with a clean feeling mouth."

Please post this as applicable. I would suggest it be added to the Gum Disease category.

I went to my dentist about my a painful spot on my gums. He said I had some inflammation there, and he prescribed me to apply a bit of ozonated olive oil to that spot using a dental stick. It worked very well! The ozone kills any bacteria and the pain was gone within days."

PROPOLIS AND OIL PULLING

04/10/2009: Greg from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada: "I have great teeth apparently, but I'm having some issues with my gums right now, receding and all that, probably by not flossing, and brushing... but I want to know, has anyone ever tried mixing oil pulling with propolis? I get the sneaking feeling it would work VERY well.... but that's just me... I think I'm going to try it, unless someone shows me that it could kill me or something :P... but any feedback would be nice."

Hi- Bee propolis from Australia is the one i tried not only for gum @ tooth but for any pain that you want to get rid of in few minutes . The one im telling you which can be taken internally is very effective."
04/11/2009: No Name from Anywhere, U.S. replies: "For "gum" problems, make sure you are getting enough Vit C, Vit D, Magnesium, Calcium, Vit K2 and Iodine...and you may need more than you think. "Gum" disease is really bone disease. Instead of the gums pulling away and then the bone receding and teeth coming loose, it is the other way around...bone recedes first, then pockets form that fill with plaque and bacteria, causing the bone to recede further, and so on. All the dental work in the world cannot correct nutritional deficiencies."
11/18/2009: Coho from Eureka, Ca. replies: "In regards to gum disease, gum disease has multiple causes it is not only bacteria getting under the gums and nutritional deficiencies, but also can be an immune response to collegenase and other enzymes caused by bacteria. It can also be caused by spirochetes not just strep mutants. Natural Cox inhibitors like tumeric, green tea, (many herbs are cox inhibitors)can all be beneficial taken on a daily basis along with good dental hygene and nutrition. If you have taken antibiotics and it hasn't helped much you may have spirochetes. Sarsparilla (smilax) is a specific for spirochetes. it needs to be taken as a tea as well as a rinse to see benefits.

You can purchase on line dental irrigators that get below the gum line into the pockets. Rinsing under the gum line frequently with baking soda, sea salt, HP, can help heal infection and also break up the irritating enzymes lurking under the gums. I have actually beaten a full on tooth ache by rinsing under the gumline. this was a toothache I was sure needed a filling or root canal. Going thru a half cup at a time repeatedly rinsing and also taking 1/2 teaspoon of echinacea tincture on the hour and drinking lots of fluids till it subsides then continuing taking a tsp echinacea 2xs per day for a week. I later had it checked out by my dentist and I had no infection and did not need a root canal or filling and had no gum infection. For toothache make a strong tea of meadowsweet and hold in your mouth for a few minutes also drink a cup. This works better for me better than any other pain killer.

Propolis in its raw form can be used as a temporary filling as well as for gum problems. I prefer raw or powdered propolis to tinctured because of the sticky gunk left on the teeth. I agree oregano oil and tumeric are good topically, but work better for me if i take it internally too."

11/18/2009: Rob from Manhattan, New York replies: "great recommendations..thanks. I would like to add to this, good ole fashion flossing and a gum stimulator. I often dab a little oregano oil on my thumb and forefinger and run the floss through it."

RAW BETEL NUTS

06/01/2009: GPM from Taichung, Taiwan: "All my gums have been receding and my teeth have been getting weak over a period of about 10 years, since a tooth cracked and I got a root canal. They are literally breaking up--I've had another root canal, and two-three more teeth will be cracking to the center within a short time.

One dentist said I brushed too often.
One dentist said I brushed too little.
One dentist said I brushed too hard.
One dentist said I brushed too soft...

None of them, or any others, had any clue what the disease/ condition is called, or what to do. (A few will, however, cut the roof off your mouth, then "paste" it around your teeth--putting you on the couch for a week and off of solids for three weeks--for a lot of money.)

I went to a doctor today, and he suggested I chew... BETEL NUTS. That's virgin betel nuts, before they've been doctored by the cute girls.

I'll see how that goes.

Too much milk is probably part of what made my teeth so bad. IIRC, exceeding two cups a day pulls calcium from the body."

07/21/2011: Dave from Ottawa, Canada: "Please help! I've been going to a periodontist for about a year and a half. We had the deep gum cleanings a few times and now he tells me he would like to have the gum flap surgery which I am trying to avoid. It's not cheap and also he can't guarantee it will resolve my issue and from doing research there is alot of pain involved, time off work and people who have had it done say they dont ever feel the same after.

So anyway, I found this site here, and it is interesting but a little confusing. So many different solutions but no clear one that people are using. I took the advice of some posters and started the following routine. Stopped using electric toothbrush for about a month now, I have been brushing with baking soda and ACV but I have to say I think the ACV is actually making my gums worse. Is the acidity not bad for your gums? Bought some Vitamic C, which I think helps. I bought bee propolis and apply it at night on my gums which makes my gums pink but is it really doing anything or is that just exterior? I need to be on the right path as I am too young to start losing teeth. Please help."

07/22/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Dave, I wouldn't use ACV on your teeth. It is very acidic and will erode your enamel. Vitamin C is very good for pockets. Also Niacin is very good for pockets.

From the Doctoryoruself.com website:

Comfrey root used as a tea:

1. "The root, " I said, "is the part we want to use. The root, tradition says, is for internal use, and the root is not to be taken raw. Instead, you make a decoction of the comfrey root. A decoction is basically just a boiled tea."

"And how do you make that decoction?" said Kate.

"First you have to take a bit of root, maybe a few inches of it, and wash it under water. Cut the root up, like you would a carrot, into slices or chunks. Put the pieces into a Pyrex or stainless steel saucepan with a cup or two of water. Bring it to a boil, boil it for five to ten minutes, and then let it sit and cool. The result is a dark-brown, not particularly bad tasting tea. A cup or two every other day will probably be enough."

"Where do I get comfrey root?" Kate asked.

"Probably at most herb stores. I got mine fresh from a farmer who was trying to get rid of it. Comfrey grows like a big weed: very fast. If you mow it down or try to plow it under, it just comes back. Even a little bit of fresh root will grow a new plant. I'm here to tell you, there is nothing to growing your own comfrey. Cheaper that way, too."

Vitamin C:

"True enough. The trick is to use a non-acidic form of vitamin C called calcium ascorbate. Topical calcium ascorbate will not sting even sore gums. You can obtain it as a powder, and spread about half a teaspoon on the gum surfaces. It has a bit of a metallic aftertaste, but its quite bearable. Hold it for about ten minutes, then rinse."

For two weeks, Kate did exactly that, plus drinking the comfrey decoction. However, she did not cancel her gum surgery.

After a pre-op examination, her dentist canceled it.

http://www.doctoryourself.com/gums.html

Also niacin is very good for your gums taken internally. Good luck"

07/22/2011: Rob from Manhattan, New York replies: "Dave... My brother lives in Ottawa... But I believe you're not really interested in that... However... yes, absolutely stop using ACV on the teeth!!! This is a crazy idea! In fact, when drinking Apple Cider Vinegar use a straw to bypass the teeth as much as possible...

I have the same problem and my dentist suggested less aggressive brushing, with the softest bristle brush... also to gently stimulate my gums with the rubber toothpick device or thumbs..

What seems to be helping me as well is CoQ10, I take 100mg before bed, (it may give you vivid dreams)

about CoQ10 .... It has been shown to restore gum health by preventing the progress of gum diseases such as Pyrrohea and gingivitis, and increasing the rate of gum healing. Research has shown that diseased gums tend to have lower levels of Co-Q-10 than healthy gums.

I also take Pycnogenol with some Omega 3 oil before before bed.. They all work together to increase micro. circulation.

Also, when I floss I dab a little Theives oil, (I make this up from essential oils) on my thumb and fore finger and run the floss through it... then floss..

basic recipe is equal parts of lemon, euculyptus, cinnamon, clove, and rosemary essential oils. (about 20 drops each to 1/4 cup of olive, jojoba, almond oil carrier oil) google for other recipes... I also add Thyme...

...but really just a few drop of any anti-bacterial essential oil in a carrier would probably suffice..

& yes, a good non abrasive tooth powder might help... like Eco Dent.

keep smiling"

07/22/2011: Tina from Princeton, N J replies: "Hey Rob! Excellent suggestions.... I am going to try them. I love the idea of coating the floss with anti-bacterial oil. Going to implement that into my nightly brushing routine from tonight. Thanks for sharing!"
10/05/2011: Along from Berkeley, California replies: "Becareful about Comfrey. I had tried to buy comfrey tea before, thinking I could injest it as a tea. I went to a few herbal stores and finally found one that sold comfrey ointment only. I asked about the tea. The herbalist told me that it is NO LONGER safe NOR were they allowed to sell comfrey for internal uses. It was found to be linked to liver damage. Not so long afterwards, a few of my teachers told the class about this linkage as well. So just BE CAREFUL with comfrey."

For best results, you need to use the above in an oral irrigator with an ultra slim cannula tip to get into the deep pockets below the gumline. Be sure to rinse the irrigator with water after each use, or it'll dissolve over time."

First of all I would like to thank you for this awsome website and on your great advise.

I had acid reflux for ten years and have finally almost no trouble with it thanks to your website.

I still have gum disease which I can't yet get rid off. I have tried hydrogen peroxide locally and internally, oil pulling with sesame oil and coconut oil, colloidal silver, bar soap brushing, daily rigorous flossing and waterpik application. I saw the dentist and had a professional cleaning. I still have a burning sensation and inflammation in my gums, which are rapidly receding. I'm now trying coconut oil internally.

my saliva pH in the morning is about 6 while my urinary pH is around 7 due to ACV/baking soda. I am treating my candida with low carb diet. I also tried borax for a week but I stopped because of abdominal discomfort.

Please give me some advice on how I can cure this unusual type of gum disease!

Thank you!!!

Take care and best regards,

02/11/2011: Kat from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Hi Karl.... Have you tried brushing with baking soda (no toothpaste added) and gargling with a mix of baking soda and water? Also, you may have too much acid in your system, which you can "get rid of" by mixing 1/2 tsp baking soda with 8oz water and drink it in the mornings for about 1 week. Baking soda will rid your body of the too much acid and it is a virus/bacteria killer. Try it and see if that works for you."
02/11/2011: Elsaeasterly from Elsewhere, Ca, Usa replies: "Karl,

Whenever I get a minor gum infection, I make a paste of ground cloves and water, dip a toothpick in it, and run the toothpick all around the affected gumline. Sometimes I also dip floss in the paste and use that also. If I do this after brushing and regular flossing right before bed for 2 nights (and don't rinse! ), the infection is always gone within 36 hours.

I see you've tried clove oil, but maybe this method with ground cloves is more potent. Please post back if you try it. If your infection is more advanced it may take more than 2 days, though."
09/08/2011: Craig from Dallas, Texas replies: "I'd stay away from the bar soap brushing and "vigorous flossing." Clean a soft-bristled toothbrush with soap and rinse thoroughly before each use, then gently clean the teeth and massage the gums. A warm sea-salt and water solution with some tea tree oil and clove oil makes a great, gentle rinse to help kill bacteria also. And, when you floss, don't floss vigorously! Use it to clean the gunk out from between your teeth. Your gums get inflamed and cut up, and you leave them exposed to additional bacterial infection!

Don't forget, gum tissue is still tissue. If you had something wrong with the skin on the back of your hand, would you rub the crap out of it two-three times a day with the same non-sterilized brush, cut into it with string, then rinse it with a water pick?

Of course not!

I've also been told, though I haven't read this specifically, that the glycerine in a lot of toothpastes (both commercial and "natural") coats the teeth and makes it so that nutrients can't absorb directly into the tissue and teeth. It makes sense to me, but I've never seen the proof."

10/23/2010: Dent from Boston, Ma replies: "Hello,
Good oral hygiene will help to create a healthy environment in the mouth and fight oral disease. Regular, gentle, brushing and regular flossing (or some equivalent that will clean the areas between the teeth, for example, a simple interdental brush--the tiny ones that look like a bottle cleaner or a water pik, etc. ) are simple, yet very effective ways to prevent or even cure periodontal disease. There is good and bad bacteria in the mouth, the bad ones particularly like acidity and actually require acidity to thrive. They also prefer areas where they can hide and not be washed away by saliva. They help each other to hang on to the teeth by creating a biofilm, that is, simply clumping up so that the bacteria on the outside protects the ones inside. As one can guess, the areas between the teeth are perfect to hide and colonize the mouth. If food is left between the teeth, the bugs use it to grow. Soon, the tissue around the tooth, once firm and healthy, tightly surrounding the tooth, becomes inflamed, red (as opposed to a healthy pink), puffy, it bleeds, becomes loose and bacteria can penetrate deeper areas, including the surrounding bone. The body perceives the "attack" and responds (inflammatory response) by trying to destroy the invaders, but ends up causing some damage to the gums themselves.

In simpler terms, the gums, are caught in the fight, and change, are not able to do their job, of protecting the tooth by hanging on to it's neck tightly--like a turtleneck, become like a cowlneck. The goods news is that with regular cleaning, things can be improved. The key is to be gentle, brush GENTLY (most of us brush too hard--use soft or even extra soft toothbrush), take your time, the motion itself does not matter much, just make sure that ALL of your teeth are brushed and flossed, even it there is bleeding, floss gently and things should improve. Flossing is a habit, if your are not in the habit of flossing every day, floss at least a couple of days a week and work your way up to once a day (before going to bed) and again, there are alternatives to flossing. Lastly, please do not bathe your teeth in sugary "whatevers", drink it a once and them brush, rinse well--remember sugar is what bacteria wants and needs to live."

01/19/2010: Rkymtsprt from Missoula, Montana replies: "hope this helps....my gums were terrible and bled all the time. Once I began taking Calcium with Zinc and Magnesium the bleeding stopped. I still use peroxide and brush with baking soda."
01/19/2010: Entheogens from Palo Alto, California, Usa replies: "Okay. Besides flossing, which you need to do, buy some white oak bark powder (you can find it online or at an herbal apothecary, if you have one near you). Take a little bit and put it in between your lip and gum, so that it rests on the affected areas of the gum and sleep with it in there overnight. Do this for several nights until pain and swelling go away. This worked for me, in any case."

ROBERT'S TOOTH POWDER FORMULA

[YEA]  07/06/2008: Robert from Manhattan, New York: "Healthy Teeth & Gums & ACV: I take ACV occasionally and recently after a few mornings of 2 tbsp mixed with water I developed a shooting intermittent nerve pain from an exposed area above a tooth where the gum has receded. I can't get to the dentist for a few weeks so I searched on the web for some help & came across this tooth powder recipe. In addition to staying away from acid foods, it seems to be helping..after a few days I no longer have the pain. I also added Myrrh & Bentonite Clay to the recipe. The Prickly Ash Bark gives a wonderful tingly sensation. Be sure to use an alkaline base vit C/Calcium formula. I used Sodium Ascorbate & Hydrilla (Natural Alkaline, plant with high Calcium) I think Ted is right on about acid & teeth health...& finally research on your own, be creative & trust your intuition.

Tooth Powder

3 parts baking soda
1 part sea salt
3 parts calcium-magnesium-vit c powder
3 parts finely ground prickly ash bark
1 part echinacea powder
1/2 part goldenseal powder
Optional: peppermint essential oil to taste

Combine the ingredients and shake well. Use about 1/4 tsp on a wet toothbrush."

SALT

[YEA]  05/14/2011: Mysticgardener from Plain City, Ohio: "A few years back I had a terrible problem with gum disease and had to have 3 teeth pulled. After that I had to go back for four sessions of root planing. (cleaning around the root and under the gumline). After I had the first two sessions done, I heard a retired dentist online say that the best thing for your dental health is salt! He also said he would never have dared say this while still practicing!

So I started brushing with sea salt and when I went back for the third session, the hygienist was just barely scraping, doing more talking than anything. She started to talk about how much my mouth had improved and that she had never seen anything like it! THEN she said I would NOT HAVE TO COME BACK for the fourth session!

Six months passed and I went back for a routine cleaning. AGAIN, she exclaimed about how much my dental health had improved since the first time she had seen me. I still didn't tell her what I was doing. I just said I was brushing longer like she had told me to do.

Six months after that I went back and had the same results. At that point, I told her my secret! She truly acted like she had never heard of it. This retired dentist I listened to online said salt kills the bacteria that causes gum disease. I now use an herbal toothpaste with no fluoride, and from time to time I will run my tongue around my teeth, and if I feel any plaque on the teeth, I will brush them with salt and it comes right off.

I now brush with salt about once a week, just for good maintenance. I believe this will save the rest of my teeth and thousands of dollars! My teeth have also gradually gotten whiter, and I no longer worry about bad breath. At first I worried the salt might take off the enamel but this has obviously not happened! I was so grateful to learn of this because my dentist told me they could not guarantee I would not lose the rest of my teeth, even with the root planing. That was the 3rd time I had root planing done and it is very expensive, and it obviously wasn't fixing the problem since I had to keep having it done every 7 or 8 years!

They tried to insinuate that I had gum disease because I was not brushing and flossing on a regular basis which was absolutely not true! I was extremely vigilant about both and had been my whole life! Let's continue to get the truth out there folks and keep our money where it belongs!"

SELENIUM

04/02/2009: Rich from Boca Raton, Fl: "Gum Disease: Test Your Selenium

http://www.scienceblog.com/community/older/1999/D/199903194.html

"Results showed that selenium has the strongest association with gum disease, with low levels increasing the risk by 13 fold. "
*******
If 13 of 14 people with Gum Disease have low Selenium levels (93%), that looks like causation. Note: Selenium is an antifungal.

Chlorhexadine, a treatment for ringworm yeast, is the FDA approved treatment for Gum disease. It turns your teeth yellow, and is rarely prescribed.

Zinc has been proven clinically effective at reducing pockets.

Here is another treatment guide, notice the Metronidazole(antifungal used in rosacea treatment):
http://www.periodontaldiseasetreatmentguide.com/

It is a national tragedy and a huge detriment to oral health that fewer than 5% of general dentists in the U.S.A. and less than 25% of periodontists implement this periodontal disease treatment protocol. Variations of this protocol have been published for more than a decade."

SHAKE WITH BREWER'S YEAST AND LECITHIN

06/20/2010: Jana from Wa: "Several years ago I had a tooth replaced and started to notice a darkening area in the gum line above that tooth. A friend introduced me to a book on natural remedies. A recipe for a shake that included, among other things, brewers yeast and lecithin worked wonders. Within two weeks the darkness was completely gone and my gums have remained very healthy.

I am trying to locate that recipe but don't know the name of the book or the author. The recipe was called something like "Nora's shake" or something similar.

Does anyone remember reading this book or seeing this recipe? If so, I would be very grateful for that information. Thank you."

Dynamite Milkshake (I found the orig book!)

2 C skim milk (or equiv in powder form)
1 TBL safflower oil
2 pks sugar sub
1 teas vanilla
Start blender on low, then add:
**4 heap TBL powder yeast
4 Heap TBL gran. Lecithin

** start w/ 1/2 teas yeast & every few days increase the amount. Blend all & refridge overnight (improves the taste) then re-blend & drink in the AM. It's a meal substitute, but you can add fruit. Brewers yeast is best to use, If it's been de-bittered, it looses nutrition. Do NOT use bakers yeast."

[YEA]  12/26/2011: Joan from Sa: "The best thing I have done for my teeth and gums is change to a silica toothpaste. I had receding gums, sensitive teeth near my gums that would feel like an electric shock when I brushed my teeth. I also had bleeding gums if I did not religously floss my teeth every night. Since changing, the sensitivity has gone, and my gums don't bleed even when I don't floss every night."

TURMERIC

[YEA]  11/19/2009: Sow_b from Sydney, Nsw: "Hello!

Firstly, your site is amazing!!! Thanks.

I cured my bleeding gum problem of many years by using turmeric powder as a toothpaste. I would first brush my teeth normally with toothpaste and then wash out and then my next round of brushing I use tumeric powder and apply it to the brush and start brushing away. The turmeric kills of any bacteria that lives in the gums which cause the bleeding and its great for your mouth as a whole. Whenever I used to ask my dentist how to cure my bleeding gums he would just tell me to come into his surgery for a scale and clean for the teeth which costs almost $200 australian dollars. I ignored it and it struck me that turmeric is a great anti-bacterial so that should fix my problem. I now brush this daily and my gums have never bled since, and it costs just a few dollars. Be warned, turmeric stains yellow and although this HARDLY ever affects the color of your teeth but if you want to be super sure then finish the last round of brushing using pure baking soda, this will remove any small turmeric leftover, keep your mouth in an alkeline state and super brighten your teeth!

Best of luck! Email me (sowrabh@digital-soul.com.au) any questions"

[YEA]  03/23/2008: Mary Kate from Alburq, NM: "I have suddenly developed gingivitis over the past few weeks. Bad breath when I normally don't have any, and then my gums were bleeding like crazy after flossing, also unusual. I looked up remedies on Earth Clinic and decided to try the turmeric. After 3 days, bleeding gums reduced by u, after 5 days no more bleeding or bad breath. The plaque from my teeth didn't smell quite so foul either. This is a stellar remedy!

What I did:

After first brushing and flossing, I took a toothbrush (don't use the expensive kind that you use on an electric toothbrush because it will stain yellow after the first use) and dipped it in turmeric. I brushed my teeth and gums vigorously, adding as much turmeric as possible 2-3 times to the toothbrush. After brushing with turmeric, I rinsed out my mouth well and then swished (as in oil pulled) more turmeric in water for a good 2-3 minutes. I am very curious now to see what would happen if I added turmeric to my oil pulling regime. It does not stain the teeth, but you might need to be careful with crowns or dentures. My teeth do look remarkably whiter for some bizarre reason after brushing with the turmeric. My mouth feels oh so fresh, I may start to forgo the toothpaste and just brush with tumeric. Ra ra ra TURMERIC!!!"

Ocassionally I get lazy and do not brush my teeth before bedtime as I get too tired. This happened for a couple of times and immediately after when I brush my teeth, there will be bleeding along the gumlines. Luckily I have turmeric with me and after 2 days, the bleeding will stop. Must remember that we need to brush and floss our teeth on a morning and night basis to ensure that plaque material is broken up on a daily basis."

[YEA]  12/03/2007: Alexandra from Bay Area, California: "I began getting increased trouble with acne rosacea flares (this is quite a different condition from acne vulgaris/teenagers acne). The flares were happening despite my already taking fish oil and an antibiotic ointment from the dermatologist did not help much. Then, I read in the news that acne rosacea is caused by a build up of inflammatory by products in the skin.

At once, I thought of using turmeric. I mixed turmeric spice with water and dabbed it on my flare spots. I had to scrub hard to remove it next day as it stains the skin, but 3 days later, my flare spots were gone. I take 1 teaspoon of turmeric in water each day, internally.

Then, I had to have a dental procedure where they had to do a lot of digging around in the gum to install a temporary crown. I was told my gums would feel sore and to take some ibuprofen. Instead, I swirled turmeric in my mouth after brushing my teeth, letting it reach all my gums, then swallowed it. I did this every night for the next 3 weeks. I had no gum pain at all and when I returned to have the crown installed, the dentist was amazed at how healthy my gums were. I told him I'd used turmeric.

Warning---turmeric stains white cloth and clothing, and it will probably stain artificial dental implants and dentures. But if you have all your teeth and want something extra for healthy gums, turmeric is amazing stuff. Warning..it may constipate in considerable dosages so if you have to use a lot of it, increase both fluid and fiber intake."

My teeth are cleaner, easier to floss, and whiter. I love it, but I'm concerned about loosing enamel with this process. My two front teth seem sharper and thinner on the bottom. Can oil pulling actually hurt the enamel on your teeth? Also, 10 days ago I switched to coconut oil and now I have a swelling arount my two front bottom teeth. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks, Taracat"
