Timothy from Chicago, Illinois writes: "I get flare-ups of hyperthyroid symptoms - my test results have come back with the markers of graves disease. I have taken these symptoms to help with my hyperthyroid/jitteriness/insomnia/racing thoughts. If I take them for a few days - a few weeks and then re-take a thyroid test, my thyroid levels actually show remarkable improvement as my symptoms improve:

L-Tryptophan - 500milligrams - 3 pills up to 3X a day (without food)

Magnesium Chloride - 2 teaspoons 3X/a day (with food). I have also used Magnesium Citrate 1-2 teaspoons up to 3X a day. I think I prefer the Magnesium Chloride.

Magnesium Glycinate 400milligrams - up to 3X/day (with food)

Vitamin E - I know some doctors advise against taking large amounts of vitamin E so please check with your doctor. When I get very jittery vitamin E helps make me tired and calm me down so I'll take up to 800 iU a day of vitamin E as well.

These are the supplements that have significantly helped me. Please check with your doctor first!"

[YEA] Rob from Northeast, USA writes: "Help for Graves Disease Eye Trouble

I have had Graves disease for a couple of years. I have not had a lot of trouble with eye protrusion, but I have suffered several severe struggles with dry, crusty, scratchy, painful eyes. The first round was helped by antithyroid meds. But for the last bout I was no longer on meds. I found that flaxseed oil was very helpful. I have been taking it for a few months now, 1 tablespoon with breakfast, another with supper (on some food). There seems to be a fairly predictable correlation between when my flaxseed oil habit gets interrupted and the return of eye symptoms (which reminds me to get back to the oil).

[YEA] Lori from Chesapeake, VA writes: "re: graves cure -- The herb Bugleweed (Lycopus virginicus) has long been used in Europe for treating hyperthyroidism. Bugleweed can be used alone for mild conditions or in combination with anti-thyroid drugs. It works by inhibiting iodine uptake and metabolism, reducing the amount of hormone produced by active cells and it reduces the activity of TSI, the antibodies responsible for Graves\' disease. The leaf extract of bugleweed is more active than root extracts. A tincture (alcohol extract) equivalent to 20 mg of the drug is more effective than a tea. If bugleweed is used as a tea, amounts as high as 1-2 grams daily can be used. Lycopus is often used in combination with Melissa officianalis (lemon balm). Although the effects of herbal preparations are mild compared to anti-thyroid drugs, herbs such as bugleweed should not be withdrawn suddenly. As with anti-thyroid drugs, herbs should be weaned with steadily decreasing doses as improvement is noted. The variety Lycopus europaeus (gypsywort) is reported to be as effective as bugleweed."

[YEA] Brenda from Springville, Tennessee writes: "Hi everyone, I\'d like to add an update on my uses of HP. I use the inhaled method, 10 squirts, twice in a row, usually 2 or 3 times a day,and am so very happy with it. I no longer have broncitis! I was dignosed with Graves disease Dec 06 which caused terrible jitters and rapid heartbeats. I inhale the HP when this happens and within minutes the jitters and rapid heartbeat subside! I can\'t thank Earthlink.com enough! I tell all my friends about HP and to email Bill Munro, and I tell that Bill will call them back promptly! A special thanks to Bill"

[YEA] Joni from Grafton, OH writes: "A couple of years ago I was having a problem with styes- those annoying, painful lumps on the eyelid, on or near the lash line. My cousin told me to prepare a green tea bag, make yourself a cup of tea and while the bag is still semi-hot, squeeze out excess water (leave some), and apply to the stye for a minute or so. Be careful it's not too hot (altho I like it that way). Usually there's no sign of them the next morning. Maybe a stubborn one will take another treatment, but that's it! Kills it quickly. I don't use same bag on both eyes, in case of cross-contamination. Last night I felt a severe pain in my lower left eye, but it wasn't a sty. I took out my contacts and used a tea bag on it, and irrigated it with the tea and it began watering. Which felt greatbecause it was so dry and painful!! The pain subsided altho it still stung with whatever it was in my eye. It's fine this morning. I also cured my son's red, inflamed, crusty eyes with both green tea bags and honey a couple months ago. I made the tea, added honey to it and dipped the bags back in, didn't squeeze and used them (2 bags) on each eye. Did this about 3 times in 36 hours and they were healed."
