Replies[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 11/09/2010: Joey from Detroit, Usa replies: "I have been drinking the cherry juice for my gout and it worked good, but it spikes my blood sugar levels. I talked with my doctor about it and she said the cherry juice has about 50 mg of sugar per serving and recommended to try the Fruit Advantage cherry capsules because they have less then 1 gram of sugar in them. I have switched over to the capsules and my gout hasn't returned and my blood sugar is level now. If you are worried about your sugar levels, stay with the cherries, but try the capsules for the low sugar."

[YEA] 06/13/2010: Sam from Gaithersburg, Md writes: "I don't usually give feedback to forums, but about a month i came down with what i thought was a severe bunion on my right toe. i was hobbling around, losing sleep and the pain was so intense that i almost went and bought crutches. it finally subsided but would flare up after playing tennis. one evening when talking with a group of tennis friends, someone started talking about their recent injuries and was describing exactly what i had and when he showed me his toe, i never thought it would be gout. the next day i found this forum (this was less than a week ago) and immediately started eating cherries, drinking black cherry juice, a lot of acv & water plus icing my foot. the results have been dramatic. the pain & swelling are gone, and my toe almost looks normal - i played 2 sets of tennis saturday and although i had a flare up it quickly resided. this morning i played another 2 sets and there was no flare up or pain. i cannot begin to thank the readers and would urge everyone to try these remedies as they certainly worked for me."

COCONUT MILK

[YEA] 04/11/2007: Eric from Brooklyn, NY writes: "coconut milk helped with me with gout and any other in the joints with in a week than any other thing i have tried.
COCONUT MILK - HOW TO MAKE IT (Recipe Courtesy of http://www.all-organic-food.com/index.htm )
Coconut milk is not the liquid inside a coconut, although this liquid does make a satisfying drink. Rather, coconut milk is made by squeezing the grated flesh of a coconut with some hot water resulting in a rich white liquid that looks very much like cow's milk.
Coconut milk should be distinguished from coconut cream. Fresh coconut milk, when refrigerated, and canned coconut milk, if not shaken, separates into two layers, with the thick (upper) layer being the coconut cream and the thinner (bottom) layer constituting the milk. The top layer can be skimmed off with a spoon and used for recipes requiring coconut cream (usually desserts) with the bottom layer being reserved for recipes specifying coconut milk.
Canned, frozen and powdered coconut milk are widely available, convenient to use and generally of acceptable quality. However, they do not generally achieve quite the quality of coconut milk prepared at home from fresh or desiccated coconut.
For those who might want to try preparing coconut milk at home, the following provides instructions for doing so.
A: Preparing Coconut Milk from Fresh Coconuts
Pierce the eyes of a fresh coconut, drain the liquid inside and place the coconut on a rack and bake in a 325F pre-heated oven for about 30 minutes. Remove the coconut from the oven, let it cool a bit and crack it with a hammer so that the shell breaks into several pieces. Remove all the coconut meat from the shell, peel off the brown skin and cut the meat into very small cubes. Place the meat in a blender, add hot water to just cover all of the meat and blend until finely grated. Place a sieve covered with cheese cloth over a bowl and pour the coconut meat and water into the sieve squeezing handfuls of the coconut meat to extract as much liquid as possible into the bowl. Discard the squeezed coconut meat and refrigerate the coconut milk that has been extracted into the bowl. Refrigerate the milk and use within 1 or 2 days. B: Preparing Coconut Milk from Desiccated coconut.
Empty an 8 oz package of unsweetened desiccated coconut into a blender and add 1 cup boiling water. Blend for about 30 seconds and allow the mixture to cool a bit. Place a sieve over a bowl lined with cheese cloth. Ladle the mixture into the cheese cloth, fold the edges over the coconut meat and twist the ends to extract as much milk as you can into the bowl. Discard the squeezed coconut meat and refrigerate the coconut milk that has been extracted into the bowl. Refrigerate the milk and use within 1 or 2 days."

COCONUT OIL

[YEA] 02/21/2009: Lisa from San Francisco, CA/US writes: "Arthritis/gout: I've had my first gout attack and was in excruciating pain for 4 weeks. I tried pretty much everything: ACV, turmeric, ginger, prescribed pain killers, acupuncture, cherry juice and the pain subsided but not much...
I lost faith in my doctors who prescribed me a bunch of pills that did not go well with my body not to mention long term liver damage. So finally I read posts from people who gave coconut oil to their pets. So I tried 2 tbsp of coconut and within 1 day felt better. Now I was still taking 2 tbsp of ACV along with the coconut so if the combination work better or not but I did feel 95% better. I am now taking less ACV and more coconut oil.
Folks, when you are desperate, you'll try anything to get healthy but keep in mind, you want to take unrefined, raw virgin coconut oil. I do not understand why most of our food has to be refined and over-processed? I hope the food industry will improve our food quality in a very near future. I even started researching on raw milk (which unfortunately is hard to find and gets quite expensive) where in some culture take it to cure their arthritis problems. Good thing is virgin coconut oil is pretty cheap and widely available online. I even use coconut oil on my face and hair, works great on my hair."

COD LIVER OIL

[YEA] 03/03/2009: Adam from North Myrtle Beach, SC writes: "I accidently gave myself gout after self medicating with extreme amounts of B vitamins. My family has a history of gout so it was bound to happen to me sooner or later. I have had excruciating attacks in my toe, ankle, and various places on top and bottom of my feet. I have found some very good treatments over the last year or two for gout. The first one I found was a far-infrared sauna which will work wonders but is very expensive ($2000+) but will treat multiple conditions. The second one i found was the ionic foot bath. My grandpa and I have had amazing results with it. After one treatment I could eat or drink anything I wanted with no side effects for about a month but then I would need another treatment. Each treatment usually costs around $30-35 or you can buy one for about $300. The third one and by far the most economical fresh cod liver oil taken everyday about $50 or less to cover you for a month or more. I would recommend 1-2 tablespoons of fresh cod liver oil a day and one ionic foot bath treatment a month to never worrie about gout again. You might be able to find a alternitive health clinic near you that will give you a free first ionic treatment. Try these out and let us know if they help you."

CONNECTION WITH HIGH IRON IN BLOOD
12/14/2010: Jared from Portland, Oregon writes: "Hello- I have been a on and off sufferer of Gout for the past 6-7 years. Anytime I ever encountered a bout, Ted's suggestions always worked. ACV worked. Just after thanksgiving, I had a bout that lasted 10 days and was never even dented with ACV, Vitamin C regimen etc. Continued research and I stumbled on a research study "Facchini's research, Near-iron deficiency-induced remission of gouty arthritis. , was published in Rheumatology (Oxford) in December 2003. "
Facchini theorized that high Iron content in the blood made gout worse and that treatment was near impossible. Big problem is vitamin C enhances Iron absorption. Vitamin C, Uric Acid bond in the blood to an extent that makes the Uric Acid almost impossible to be excreted. This is not a big deal for non-menopausal females as they have the ability to rid the body of blood through menstruation. This applies to men and menopausal females mostly. Based on my experience as well as others who has posted to Earth Clinic that treatments do not work, the following is to be considered. On Day 10 of my painful bout, I scheduled an appt with my local Red Cross to donate blood. I get there and during the pre donation screening, the Red Cross take a blood sample. My Hemoglobin level was 17.4. VERY HIGH. This also means I have high iron content. I donated my pint of blood and went home. The following morning, 90% of the pain and swelling in my left knee was gone. I had only minor discomfort. 48 hrs. Gout was totally gone. So, for those who have visited Earth Clinic reporting treatments don't work, have blood work done for Hemoglobin and Iron levels. Normal for adult males is 14-18. Like I said, something to consider for chronic sufferers. Not everyone is able to donate based on individual health and meds but for those that can and have not seen any relief from Ted's great formulas, try donating. It worked for me!!!!"
12/16/2010: Liz from Dublin, Ireland replies: "Hi with high ferritin levels I would advise you to have your doctor test you for Haemochromatosis if undetected and untreated this stored iron can cause organ or tissue damage and can be fatal. Symtoms are chronic fatigue joint pain diabetes and irregular heartbeat I was diagnosed last september and have a unit of blood taken each week to get my levels down. Hope this helps!"

DIETARY CHANGES

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 07/05/2010: Lee from Orlando, Florida writes: "I am a male 58 years old I studied Gout, because it caused me great pain. Solution, I ordered pills of artichoke, turmeric & celery seed,( about 1500 mg of each every day as needed) & drink enough water, no beer, wine or whiskey, for ten years it worked great. Then I discovered the cure for cancer & most arthritis is eating carrots, cabbage, onion & tomato with sweet potato in a stir fry, flavoring it with cream cheese, pasturized cheese, ginger & garlic, & some powdered chicken bollion, eat every day & avoid all sugar (sugar causes all these problems). The gout was also reduced, so I take less of the herbs for gout."

I figured out that my major episodes with gout happened when I was severely dehydrated, thus exasperating a poor PH balance diet. I have been vigilant about staying hydrated, but also swear by black cherry juice to balance my diet. my problem was my diet-no fruit and way too much salty foods. I really believe every case is different and that even doctors out there don't really know much about it. There are triggers which are unique to your own makeup in my estimation. I stay away from pork, but am able to eat as much steak as I want."

06/20/2008: TAN KOON PENG from SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE writes: "These foods contains high uric acid and gout patients must avoid them completely!
1 .internal organs of animals, liver, kidney, brain, heart, pancreas!
2. small fishes - ikan bilis, sardins, anchovies!
3. meat- goose and sausages!
4. meat extracts- bovril, oxo, gravies!
5. sea food- scallops, oysters, mussels, fishroes!
6. vegetables- cauliflower, spinach, asparagus!
7. legumes- kacang, peas, lentils, beans!
8. alchohol- beer, wine!
9. others- mushroom, dhall, yeast!
1 tips for removing uric acid from legumes, simply soak it overnight and its free from uric acid! Remember to pour away the water.
The one remedy that everyone seems to agree is very effective-cherries! Eat them fresh or frozen. Also, drink cherry juice daily. You can get pure juice (concentrate) at health food stores.
Caution: Cherry juice has powerful laxitive effects so stay near to toilet and don't hesitate to go to toilet or it will be too late!
Gout comes on suddenly, but you know it when you have it. Caused by a build-up of uric acid in the joints, it usually settles in a persons big toe. Gout is extremely painful, but also extremely treatable.
If you have gout, you probably know it's time to change your diet. Once known as "the disease of kings," it's often brought on by a steady diet of rich foods like red meat, wine, cream sauces and sweets. The closer you stick to vegetarian cuisine, the faster the gout will go.You should stay away from meat. Also, avoid alcohol and eliminate sugar and white flour from your diet. You may start feeling so good that you'll never want to go back to consuming those things."

DON'S GOUT REMEDIES
Ratings:

[YEA] 12/18/2008: Don from Southwest , Michigan USA writes: "For several years I suffered from gout and lymes. I haven't had a bout of gout in a long time since I lost weight and improved my diet. A few days ago I messed up and ate like a teenager and got a whopping case of gout in my left big toe. It then moved through my chest and into my right foot. I spent a terrible night. Both feet were swollen and painful. The next morning I used what I had learned in the past and put together this therapy mixture.
I started at 8am and by 3pm all the pain was gone and the swelling had decreased by at least half.
Everyone asks for specifics in measurements so here is what I did.
Let me emphasize that what worked for me may not work as well for you, but I hope it does.
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU START THIS THERAPY IN THE MORNING ON AN EMPTY STOMACH!
1. One 64oz. bottle of Cranberry Juice 100% Juice (Ocean Spray/Old Orchard). It will probably have some other juices like apple or grape but that's a good thing. (DO NOT USE JUICE BLENDED WITH HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP AND NO SUGAR ADDED) READ THE LABEL!
2. One 14.5oz can of NATURAL RED TART CHERRIES PITTED.
3. About 4oz of Natural ACV with the Mother. (Mrs. Braggs etc)
4. About 8oz. Natural Grapefruit Juice 100% Juice (NOT A BLEND NO SUGAR)
5. Two 200mg tablets of IBUPROFEN (Advil, Motrin etc)
In a small blender blend the cherries till smooth and pour equally into two 1qt. jars. (Use one large container/pitcher if you prefer)
Add the ACV and Grapefruit Juice equally to the jars.
Use the Cranberry Juice to fill the jars.
Drink as much as you can at the first drinking.
Then take the two Ibuprofen tablets with bottled water.
For the rest of the day drink the remainder of the mixture as you feel like it.
As you finish the first jar and part of the second rinse the first jar with the remainder of the Cranberry Juice and pour into the second jar. When the Cherry mix is completed continue to drink the Cranberry juice until gone.
DO NOT DRINK WELL WATER OR MUNICIPLE WATER THIS DAY.
DO NOT EAT ANYTHING UNTIL THE MIXTURE IS FINISHED.
If you start this at about 8am you should be finished by 2-3pm in the afternoon.
Then eat sparingly as required (hot vegetable soup) but NO BREADS OR MEAT!
Stay off your feet thru the day and keep your feet elevated.

Best Wishes for a Peaceful World"

ELIMINATE HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP

[YEA] 11/16/2007: SG from Bakersfield, CA writes: "HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP OVERDOSE. I have a friend that used to have gout. When I met him, he walked like an old man and leaned on shopping carts in the grocery store. Well, after some Internet research, I found that high fructose corn syrup overdose can cause symptoms identical to gout! Keep in mind that high fructose corn syrup is everywhere... not just sodas, I found, but in things like canned string beans! It is very easy to overdose. So, for the next 3 months, he removed high fructose corn syrup, "natural flavoring", and all cooked food with no labels from his diet. Doctors always say to avoid red meats, but to test my pet theory that it was the chemicals the meat is cured in, instead of the meat itself, we ate either pork or beef (bought raw and seasoned at home) almost every day. After three months, it was gone! And he went back to eating high fructose corn syrup, and it is still gone. Amazing!"

EUCALYPTUS OIL
04/27/2011: Bob from Vero Beach, Fl writes: "Gout is an ugly word and an ugly problem to have to live with. I have tried so many things to eliminate gout with no lasting results until I tried a product from a guy at a health booth who pointed me towards a new product- eucalyptus spray. It was pricey, but I was not about to go another day in this pain. I bought the stuff, took it home and sprayed my foot and within minutes ( in fact almost immediately I felt relief ). I have reordered the spray several times since then and it really keeps the gout and my arthritis pain under control without having to resort to pain meds."

FASTING

[YEA] 08/11/2010: Theo from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada writes: "Fasting for Gout
I had my first gout attack 2 years ago on my birthday. After which I was fine for the longest time. Then, almost exactly 1 year later, the night before a weekend trip to Vancouver, I could feel the gout coming back. (Anybody who's ever had gout knows when it is about to come back. ) I woke up at 3am that night because my big right toe was getting worse. I knew by the next day I would not be able to walk just like the last time. However, since I was going on a weekend trip which cost a lot of money for the flight, I really did not want to spend it lying in bed! Out of desparation, I woke up the next morning and drank a ton of water before going to the airport. Then I did not eat a thing for the next 10 hours because I figured something in my diet must be the cause. Thankfully, the gout feelings subsided and I never experienced a gout attack that weekend."

HEAT AND PRESSURE
08/08/2011: Bejoy from Colorado Springs, Co, Usa writes: "When an attack of gout happens or to prevent a gout attack after all things failed ( other than potent drugs), I found that keeping the feet (or joint) hot and under pressure ( not too much as to prevent blood circulation) eventually clears the uric acid deposition from the area. Its best to wear two warm socks and shoes(or loafers) and keep it on during an attack. During sleep keep the socks on and cover your legs with a blanket. You can along with try the innumerable remedies available on the web like baking soda, apple cider vinegar, cherries etc to aid in the removal of uric acid and the usual potent painkillers and drugs like allopurinal etc. As the heat and external pressure build up in the area the crystals will dissolve. It seems the some have a tendency to store uric acid like fat for later reuse. The soft area around the joints which are cold is the ideal place to store it. Prevent the storage and body keeps it circulating or disposes it. Hope this helps."

LEMONS, CHERRIES, DIET AND EXERCISE
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 03/29/2009: Stephen Norman from Jersey, United Kingdom writes: "Gout cure
1. Lemon Juice
Gout is a build up of too much acid in the body. Therefore the body's pH level must be neutralized by adding alkaline to the body. This is best achieved by drinking the juice of a fresh lemon. Lemons are 20% acid, 80% alkaline. I just take the juice of a whole lemon, mix it with warm water in a tumbler and down it through a straw. Doing this first thing in the morning on a empty stomach also helps cleanse the kidneys which is linked to other gout related problems.
2. Cherries
Prior to taking lemon juice every day, if I felt a gout attack coming on, I would go and buy a kilo of cherries and gradually munch on them for a few hours. Cherries are a natural anti-inflammatory.
3. Diet and Exercise
While the first two points are excellent treatments, a healthy balanced diet and exercising 3 times a week for 45 minutes is core to preventing gout from occurring in the first place.
Fad diets are rubbish. Dieting is pretty simple. It's pretty obvious what's healthy and not:
Things that grow out the ground and that are natural = good. Things in colourful packets with loads of e-numbers and weird looking animations promoting them = bad.
Moderation is the key."

I have been taking Eskalith 900mg. at bedtime. Question: Is this higher dose of lithium beneficial or detrimental in relation to uric acid? Is more better?"
